The Bible and its Story: Hezekiah Counsels Modesty

“These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.” Thus begins the twenty-fifth chapter of Proverbs, written apparently in the days of Hezekiah, that wise and worthy monarch of Judah who lived under the guidance of the prophet Isaiah, and beheld the destruction of the Assyrians under Sennacherib. The maxims of this portion of the book counsel modesty, self-restraint, gentleness. “Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king and stand not in the place of great men.

‎“For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

‎“Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.”

‎“Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.”

‎“If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

‎“For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.”

‎“Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.”

Is There a Difference? — VCY America

But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the Lord doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel. (Exodus 11:7)

What! Has God power over the tongues of dogs! Can he keep ours from barking? Yes, it is even so. He can prevent an Egyptian dog from worrying one of the lambs of Israel’s flock. Doth God silence dogs, and doggish ones among men, and the great dog at hell’s gate? Then let us move on our way without fear.

If He lets dogs move their tongues, yet He can stop their teeth. They may make a dreadful noise and still do us no real harm. Yet, how sweet is quiet! How delightful to move about among enemies and perceive that God maketh them to be at peace with us! Like Daniel in the den of lions we are unhurt amid destroyers.

Oh, that today this word of the Lord to Israel might be true to me! Does the dog worry me? I will tell my Lord about him. Lord, he does not care for my pleadings; do Thou speak the word of power, and he must lie down. Give me peace, O my God, and let me see Thy hand so distinctly in it that I may most clearly perceive the difference which Thy grace has made between me and the ungodly!

Romans 8: An Introduction | Place for Truth

The eighth chapter of Romans has rightly been described as one of the most beautifully rich chapters in all of Scripture. Martyn Lloyd-Jones said that it is “one of the brightest gems of all… that in the whole of Scripture the brightest and most lustrous and flashing stone, or collection of stones, is the Epistle to the Romans, and that of these this is the brightest gem in the cluster.”[1]  Indeed, it took Dr. Lloyd-Jones 77 sermons to get through Romans chapter 8 when he preached through the book of Romans!

Octavius Winslow, who also wrote a series of devotions and meditations expounding Romans 8, said that this chapter is “a mine of sacred wealth, as inexhaustible in its resources, as those resources are indescribable in their beauty, and in their excellence and worth, priceless. It would, perhaps, be impossible to select from the Bible a single chapter in which were crowded so much sublime, evangelical, and sanctifying truth as this eighth of Romans. It is not only all gospel, but it may be said to contain the whole gospel.”[2]

The chapter itself can boast of having the Holy Spirit talked about more than any other chapter in all of Scripture, save perhaps for 1 Corinthians 15. The word “Spirit” appears 21 times in Romans 8, which means that the Spirit is mentioned at least once every two verses! In that sense, it is indeed a very spiritual chapter (of course, still recognizing that all Scripture is inspired by God the Spirit). It’s emphasis upon the Spirit is intentional in that Paul, the author, is dealing with how a Christian is to walk with assurance during times of trial and suffering. And so already, in the very way Paul repeats a certain theme or topic (in this case the Holy Spirit), we’re led to a deep truth about the Christian life: it is a life not devoid of suffering, and yet that suffering is redeemed and used in and by the Spirit working in us.

May 15 Evening Verse of The Day

116:1 Love (Hb ’ahav) here implies love associated with a covenantal relationship. The concept is used in ancient Near Eastern covenants between the victorious and the vanquished. Compare 119:47–48, 97, 113; Dt 6:5; 11:1; 13:3, all of which restrict the use of love to a disciple’s love for God’s word and will.[1]

116:1 I love the Lord. The psalmist expresses his deep affection for the Lord, grounding it in God’s own love toward him. God showed His love for the psalmist by hearing his prayer.[2]

116:1 has heard The psalmist indicates that Yahweh granted his request.[3]

1. “I love the Lord.” A blessed declaration: every believer ought to be able to declare without the slightest hesitation, “I love the Lord.” It was required under the law, but was never produced in the heart of man except by the grace of God, and upon gospel principles. It is a great thing to say “I love the Lord”; for the sweetest of all graces and the surest of all evidences of salvation is love. It is great goodness on the part of God that he condescends to be loved by such poor creatures as we are, and it is a sure proof that he has been at work in our heart when we can say, “Thou knowest all things, thou knowest that I love thee.” “Because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.” The Psalmist not only knows that he loves God, but he knows why he does so. When love can justify itself with a reason, it is deep, strong, and abiding. They say that love is blind; but when we love God our affection has its eyes open and can sustain itself with the most rigid logic. We have reason, superabundant reason, for loving the Lord; and so because in this case principle and passion, reason and emotion go together, they make up an admirable state of mind. David’s reason for his love was the love of God in hearing his prayers. The Psalmist had used his “voice” in prayer, and the habit of doing so is exceedingly helpful to devotion. If we can pray aloud without being overheard it is well to do so. Sometimes, however, when the Psalmist had lifted up his voice, his utterance had been so broken and painful that he scarcely dared to call it prayer; words failed him, he could only produce a groaning sound, but the Lord heard his moaning voice. At other times his prayers were more regular and better formed: these he calls “supplications.” David had praised as best he could, and when one form of devotion failed him he tried another. He had gone to the Lord again and again, hence he uses the plural and says “my supplications,” but as often as he had gone, so often had he been welcome. Jehovah had heard, that is to say, accepted, and answered both his broken cries and his more composed and orderly supplications; hence he loved God with all his heart. Answered prayers are silken bonds which bind our hearts to God. When a man’s prayers are answered, love is the natural result. According to Alexander, both verbs may be translated in the present, and the text may run thus, “I love because Jehovah hears my voice, my supplications.” This also is true in the case of every pleading believer. Continual love flows out of daily answers to prayer.[4]

Ver. 1.—I love the Lord, because he hath heard; literally, I love, because the Lord (Jehovah) hath heard. The object of this love is not expressed, but can only be Jehovah. Still, the grammatical construction is unusual, and has caused the suggestion of an emendation. For אהבתי Professor Cheyne would read האמנתי, as at the beginning of ver. 10. My voice and my supplications; literally, my voice, my supplications—the latter expression being exegetical of the former.[5]

1. It is a point never to be forgotten, that if we love Christ, it is because he first loved us. 1 John, 4:19. Laying this down as the foundation, the superstructure must be proper. It was God the Father’s love that first gave us his dear Son; it was Jesus’s love that first prompted his infinite mind to love us. Reader! never love sight of these grand points of faith.[6]

I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy (v. 1). This translation of the niv is possible, but the position of the word ‘Lord’ is debatable. The preferred and more literal rendering is, ‘I love, for the Lord heard the voice of my supplications’. Twice more in the psalm verbs are used without an object (‘call’ in v. 2; ‘believed’ in v. 10). The unusual expression may well draw attention to the intensity of the love that he felt for the Lord, just as John the apostle declared, ‘We love, because he first loved us’ (1 John 4:19). All through this psalm the covenantal name for God (Heb. yhwh, ‘Lord’) is used, and later the psalmist declares that he is a true covenantal servant (see v. 16).[7]

Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.’” John 8:34-36 (NLT)

Did Jesus say, “I died so you could be miserable. I gave up everything for you to live in fear. I came as a vulnerable baby, lived in a broken world, died a cruel death, and rose from the grave so you would live without freedom”?

How ludicrous! But don’t we often live enchained in our fear, broken, defeated and enslaved?

Jesus died to set us free!

He rose from the grave to set us free!

He lives to set us free!

A friend of our family was a hoarder. She had lived that way so long, her house was bursting at the seams with all the stuff she had collected over the years. Knowing she was in trouble, she reached out to my mom for help. With the help of friends, her house was sorted, purged and cleaned.

When our friend returned home she flew into a rage and demanded that everything be put back right where it had been.

How similar this is to our journey with God. We call on Him to rescue us from our depravity and He does. Then we proceed to wrap ourselves back up in the chains of sin. Why?

Because it’s familiar, because it’s what we’ve always known, because we feel naked without it.

But the truth is we aren’t naked, we’ve been given new clothes! We are free!

So let’s live like it!

Lord, thank You for coming to save me from the chains of sin. Help me to focus on You and Your power daily. Amen.

May 15 – God’s grace in the sacraments — Reformed Perspective

“…for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” – Matthew 26:28

Scripture reading: Matthew 26:17-29

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Pictures reinforce truths that words convey. Between the words and the pictures, we have a clearer understanding of what is conveyed to us.

In the church, the Lord has also given us “pictures” to convey the spiritual truths of His Word. The sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper portray the reality of what the Word teaches. In Baptism we see that just as water cleanses, so the blood of Christ cleanses His people. The Lord’s Supper portrays the same truth as we “take, eat, remember and believe” that the precious blood of Jesus Christ was shed for us.

The picture in the sacraments is not photo-chopped. It is a mirrored copy of the Word of God, and it is signed and sealed by the Holy Spirit to deeply ingrain in our hearts the blessed assurance of salvation. For instance, when the Lord’s Supper is taken with true saving faith, then Christ is truly in those elements. He is in the elements not in a literal sense, but spiritually, causing us to be drawn closer to Him and closer to our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Whenever a sacrament is celebrated, it is a blessed opportunity to relish the depth of the Lord’s love. His love is so deep that He not only tells us about it in His Word, but He also portrays it, signing and sealing it in the sacraments for all who partake with saving faith.

Suggestions for prayer

Thank God that He has structured the church so that we are nurtured by both the Word and the sacraments. Pray for those who have seen and participated in one or both sacraments, yet failed to understand their true meaning and the proper response. Pray that the Holy Spirit would draw them to Christ and back into His church.

The Bible and its Story: The Field of Sloth

The collection of maxims which forms the central portion of the Book of Proverbs, closes in the twenty-fourth chapter with the celebrated parable of the “Field of the Slothful.”

‎“I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

‎“And lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

‎“Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

‎“Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

‎“So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.”

‎Doubtless this constant warning against idleness was specialty necessary in the tropic land of Palestine. We find the theme taken up again, sarcastically, showing the excuses and pretenses of the lazy man. “The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

‎“As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.

‎The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

‎“The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.”

Growing in the Knowledge and Grace of Christ :: By Nathele Graham

Growth is an important part of life. Life starts at conception. Cells divide and grow until the child is ready to be born into the world. After that little person is born, growth continues. One day that little person will run and jump, possibly becoming an Olympic medal winner. It all takes growing and learning. There’s a more important growth that should take place in every human, and that’s growth in Christ.

The Apostle Peter knew this. He was one of the closest followers of Jesus, but Peter also denied knowing Him. Peter was afraid that his friendship with Christ would cost him dearly… maybe even cost his life. After Christ was crucified and buried, Peter was one of the first to peer into the empty tomb on the day of Christ’s resurrection. Now what? Peter had a lot to learn about Christ’s love and forgiveness. He had to learn that even though he failed, he could be restored to a close walk with Jesus. Peter was an expert in failing, then being restored. We can learn much from his experience.

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To hum be glory both now and forever. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18).

The other disciples had their moments of failure, too. Today we still refer to someone with many doubts as a “Doubting Thomas.” This refers to Thomas, who doubted that the risen Jesus had paid a visit to the disciples as they fearfully gathered together in a locked room. Thomas hadn’t been there to see with his own eyes and wouldn’t believe it unless he put his hand in Jesus’ wounds.

“But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, we have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe” (John 20:24-25).

Eight days later, Thomas was with his friends when Jesus again entered that locked room and told him to examine the nail prints. We all have our moments of doubt, but Jesus never fails. What’s your reaction when your need is great and Jesus answers? We should all react like Thomas.

“And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God” (John 20:28).

Thomas had grown in his understanding of Christ. His head knowledge told him about prophecy, and he had heard the words Jesus had spoken. What he had now was heart knowledge that allowed growth in Christ. Maybe you’re down to your last dollar, and out of the blue, you get a rebate in the mail that you had forgotten you mailed in. When that happens, don’t forget to thank God. If that check had come sooner, you would have spent it on something you didn’t really need. If it had come any later, it would have been too late. God planned it to arrive exactly when it was most needed. Take time to thank Him and praise Him.

We begin gathering knowledge when we enter into this world. A newborn baby cries and soon learns that his parents will ease his discomfort. As the child grows, more knowledge is acquired… how to walk and talk. If that child does not begin to learn and use knowledge, something’s wrong. Knowledge is continually imparted to us. Learning is natural to a child. It should be the same with knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

One evening a Pharisee paid a visit to Jesus. Nicodemus had many questions. Questions are good when asked in order to gain knowledge, and Nicodemus was searching for answers. Jesus took time to answer the questions, and John recorded that conversation for us.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).

Are you born again? Then, like any newborn babe, you need to begin learning about Spiritual things? Once born into God’s family, our knowledge of God’s ways needs to be cultivated, and we need to live according to His word so grace will also grow. Anger and hatred no longer have a place in your life.

Peter gained much knowledge and grace through his life with Jesus. He begins his second epistle with, “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of our God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord” (2 Peter 1:1-2).

Peter understood that knowledge of God and of Jesus brings grace and peace to a believer. He understood the need to grow in grace and knowledge. Most of us can identify with Peter because of his enthusiasm, followed by his failures. If we study Peter’s life, we can learn more about the love of Jesus. He will allow us to fail but will always be there to help us when we call to Him. It was Peter who saw Jesus walking on the water to reach the boat caught in the storm. Peter enthusiastically wanted to walk on water with the Lord. He had no doubt that he could if Jesus told him to come. Peter was about to learn an important lesson in spiritual growth in Christ. Jesus told him to come out of the boat. Peter enthusiastically did and even took a few steps.

“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried, saying, Lord save me” (Matthew 14:30).

Eventually, Peter learned to trust Jesus and not look at the storms. He became the leader of those first believers. Not only could Peter encourage others to step out into impossible situations but could also remind them to keep their eyes upon Jesus. The years that Peter was with Jesus, watching and observing, were important to his growing in knowledge and grace, but it wasn’t until Peter finally understood Jesus’ words that he became the man Jesus knew he could be. Peter’s knowledge of God and His ways finally were combined with living out that knowledge, and that’s when Peter began growing in grace. Finally, he could feed the sheep just as Jesus had asked him.

Sometimes, like Peter, we require knowledge bumps to finally gain a particular bit of knowledge. Growth and knowledge of Jesus Christ will elude us at every turn of life unless we actually delve into our Bibles. We also need to step out in faith, even if a storm is raging. Jesus will be there if we begin to sink.

There are plenty of folks who claim they know of Jesus but have very little knowledge of His ways. They attend worship services on Sunday mornings and receive a few minutes of instruction a week, but by Sunday afternoon, they’re back to living like the world. Growing in Christ takes more than knowledge of Christ. Knowledge must be applied to life. Sunday mornings are a good place to whet your appetite for more knowledge and understanding, but an in-depth study seldom happens from our pulpits today. The best way to learn and grow is to study line upon line and precept upon precept through Scripture.

“For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line, here a little, and there a little” (Isaiah 28:10).

Knowledge of Christ comes from studying our Bible from Genesis through Revelation, and then applying that knowledge and grace to our everyday life will bring growth. Sometimes what we discover in Scripture is very different than what we assume to be true. When that happens, you need to adjust your thinking to fit God’s truth. The more we learn and the more we rely on Jesus for everything, the more peace we will find. Even when things seem to go wrong, our faith and knowledge of Christ will give us peace.

Scripture isn’t always easy to understand. Peter pointed this out. Speaking of Paul’s epistles, he said, “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction” (2 Peter 3:16).

The word “wrest” comes from the Greek word “strebloō,” which means: to twist, to torture, put to the rack, metaphorically to pervert, of one who wrests or tortures languages in a false sense. If due diligence isn’t taken in studying Scripture, the meaning will be twisted.

“Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness” (2 Peter 3:17).

It takes a conscientious effort to study and learn, but the Holy Spirit will lead you in your study if you allow it. If we don’t have solid knowledge of God’s word, we can easily be led astray. There are many false teachers who spout ideas that sound nice but are really heresy. How can you know truth from lies?

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

Pray and allow the Holy Spirit to guide your study. If you’re serious about growing in Christ, spend some time alone with him. Fast and read Scripture beginning in Genesis. When you come across something you don’t understand or that contradicts something you’ve been taught, stop and pray. The Holy Spirit will open your understanding.

As we study about our Lord and Savior and learn about His grace and mercy, it becomes easy to acknowledge Him in all aspects of life. This knowledge will set us apart from worldly people.

By nature, Peter wasn’t a patient man, but he learned and grew in faith. We are blessed in that we have both the Old and New Testaments to learn from. Peter had the Old Testament, but he had walked with Jesus and learned. The Holy Spirit worked through him to write letters included in the New Testament. Thank God he was willing to serve.

“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:10-11).

We must be willing to learn and be diligent in our study of God’s word. Continual and diligent study produces knowledge. His grace is imputed to those who will diligently seek Him. Do you strive to grow in knowledge of our Lord? The choices you make will determine your growth. If you choose to prayerfully study His word rather than reading the latest “how to” book about new ideas on a Christian life, the Holy Spirit will lead you to a deeper knowledge. Your heart will be turned to Him, and your desire to please Him will grow. As His grace and knowledge grow in you, you’ll turn away from worldly pursuits which lead to sin. Knowledge will help you to grow, but applying that knowledge to life is what makes it real and leads to fuller grace.

“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity” (2 Peter 1:5-7).

Do you see how knowledge grows? A foundation of faith in Christ is where we begin building our Christian life. By faith we accept Christ, and that faith should make a change in how we live. Virtue (moral goodness in feeling and action) should follow. Add knowledge of Christ to virtue and apply it to your life, and so on. It’s a matter of building upon a foundation of faith.

Can you imagine what a Christian with solid knowledge of Christ can do? I can. Scripture tells us about the actions of Peter, James, Paul, Barnabas, and all the others who lived their faith in Christ. They shared their faith and spread the Gospel. We are the beneficiaries of that most valuable knowledge. If we don’t study Scripture, we waste that knowledge and don’t grow in faith.

Study the Gospels, and learn about knowledge without grace.

The Pharisees had much knowledge but little grace. They studied Jewish Law – both written and oral. They were able to point out another person’s sin and were also able to justify their own. They tried time and again to find a reason to discredit Jesus. Jesus tried to teach them the Truth. He always showed grace and mercy to the common people. Jesus healed the sick on the Sabbath, ate with sinners, forgave sin, and many other acts of kindness. No wonder the Pharisees were out to get Him! Jesus had much to say to them about their lack of grace.

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity” (Matthew 23:27-28).

Ouch! This is just a small portion of His speech to them. These men had lots of knowledge, but they had no grace and refused to grow, even when God was demonstrating to them the way, the truth, and the life.

Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). To know His commandments, we must prayerfully study His word and gain knowledge. Then we need to choose to keep His commandments in how we live our life every day. Then we will grow in knowledge and grace of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Do you love Him? Then keep His commandments and grow in Christ.

God bless you all,

Nathele Graham

Every knee shall bow | Albert Mohler

We live in an age of political intensity, and political passions often appear to drive world events. If anything, the world seems too political.

And yet, many Christians fail to understand the political nature of Christianity—even the politics of the empty tomb. In truth, the gospel of Jesus Christ is profoundly political, but not in the way many now understand politics.

The most basic questions of politics are how a society is to be ordered and by whom. The empty tomb reveals that the society of the redeemed is to be ordered by the resurrected Christ and ordered for the glory of God.

Consider Paul’s declaration found in Philippians 2:9–11. After describing Christ’s obedience to the Father, even to death on a cross, the apostle describes the exaltation of the resurrected Lord: “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

The most fundamental question posed by politics is this: Who bows the knee to whom? Paul answers clearly: Every knee will bow to Jesus. Every knee, from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. Every knee, both the quick and the dead. Every knee, from pauper to emperor. Every knee will bow to Jesus.

Who rules? King Jesus rules. Speaking to His disciples, the risen Jesus commanded the church with the Great Commission. With what authority? With all authority. Jesus said: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18–20).

By the declaration of the Father, the risen Son now possesses all authority in heaven and on earth. All means all.

In his great message on the centrality of the bodily resurrection of Christ from the dead, Paul explains the political meaning of the empty tomb with these words: “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order; Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For ‘God has put all things in subjection under his feet’” (1 Corinthians 15:22-27).

What things are subjected to the lordship of Christ? All things.

In the kingdom of Christ, the glory of God will order all things and true shalom will be forever established. In the kingdom of Christ, every eye will be dry and every tear will be wiped away. In the kingdom of Christ, the lame shall leap for joy. The prophet Isaiah declared that the wolf will live with the lamb, the child will play over the asp’s den, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. Nation will no longer rage against nation, and war will be no more.

The risen Christ will judge the nations with a rod of iron, and He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. The light of the New Jerusalem is the Lamb, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into the Holy City. There, they will give their glory to the Lamb, and the inhabitants of that city are those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

This is the politics of the kingdom of Christ. In this age, Christians are called to faithfulness in the politics of the earthly city. That world of politics is marred by sin and distorted by misdirected passions. Still, Christians face real political responsibility and are to work for justice, righteousness, and love within the earthly polis.

But our eyes must be always on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. Our ultimate citizenship is in heaven, and our ultimate hopes will be realized only in the glorious politic of the kingdom of Christ. Only in the heavenly city will every eye be dry and every tear be wiped away.

Until the day the risen and exalted Christ takes us home to that city, we are to live and work in this earthly city to His glory. Until then, we live each day in the certain knowledge that soon, very soon, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Even so, Lord, come quickly.

How do we reclaim this ‘vanishing generation’? | The Christian Post

Unsplash/Nicolas Lobos

Nearly two-thirds of people ages 18-29 who grew up in the U.S. going to church have dropped out, according to the Barna research group.

One-third described church as “boring,” one-quarter said faith is “not relevant,” and one-in-five who attended church as a teenager said God “seems missing” from their experience.

What went wrong?

I believe we’ve left a whole generation floundering because — despite all our teaching materials, church programs, and activities — they’ve never had a genuine encounter with the living Christ. Instead, we’ve been led to believe the smartphone generation needs constant media bombardment.

Our misplaced emphasis on fast-moving media and rock-concert volume has replaced the much-needed timeless discipline of seeking God in quiet meditation and reverent silence. As a consequence, our worship services have focused on performance rather than coming before God.

Look where that’s got us. An entire generation is vanishing from the church, deserting the faith, before our eyes.

Why? They’ve found nothing of substance, nothing real to cling onto. In their own words, God “seems missing.”

“Push-button” generation

Decades ago — long before the iPhone, Twitter, and Instagram — the preacher A.W. Tozer wrote:

“The ideas of cultivation and exercise, so dear to the saints of old, have now no place in our (church life). A generation of Christians reared among push-buttons … is impatient of slower and less direct methods of reaching their goals. We have been trying to apply machine-age methods to our relations with God. We … have our short devotions and rush away.”

Tozer was spot on then, and his words still ring true today.

Our “push-buttons” and obsession with busyness and “doing” are pushing us further away from the presence of God. We have every resource at our fingertips yet God is as distant as the stars.

We’ve created a Christ of our own convenience. We deal with Him on a horizontal level, not a vertical level where we are looking up to Him. St. Augustine put it this way: “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”

Jesus told the Pharisees: “The Scriptures are all talking about me, but you don’t want to come to me.”

The hope for this generation in the midst of our crazy world will be found in the quiet place, where God reveals Himself one-on-one. Only in this sacred quietness will this generation enjoy God’s all-enveloping presence, find rest in Christ and discover the life purpose they long for.

Set apart

The church can reclaim this “vanishing generation.”

This is why GFA World is inviting young people ages 18-30 to its first-ever Set Apart (www.gfa.org/setapart/) retreat from June 20-26, helping them discover a deeper calling as they learn to tune into God’s voice instead of their smartphones.

Francis Chan, author of Crazy Love; George Verwer, founder of Operation Mobilization, and I will invite them to cultivate timeless practices of the faith that connect us to God — times of solitude and reflection, meditating on the Bible and prayer.

My heart longs to see this generation experience the firebrand Christianity that has not only sustained the church for 2,000 years but has turned the world upside-down.

They need a genuine, earth-shaking, one-on-one meeting with the living Christ, the only one who is able to free them from the self-centered, push-button culture and give real meaning to life.

With the quiet discipline of a heart set apart unto God, their lives can be set aflame by the Holy Spirit and made ready to change the world.

Dr. K.P. Yohannan is the founder of Gospel for Asia (GFA World, www.gfa.org), a Texas-based missions agency that serves millions of Asia’s poor, showing them the love of God. He’s also the author of numerous books, including his latest, Never Give Up.

Worse Than the MAGA Crowd :: By Daymond Duck

On May 4, 2022, Pres. Biden reacted to the leaked U.S. Supreme Court ruling that will overturn Roe v. Wade. Then he said the MAGA crowd will go after many other privacy rights and freedoms. He asked, “What are the things that are going to be attacked? Because this MAGA crowd is really the most extreme political organization that’s existed in American history—in recent American history.”

Most readers know that MAGA is an acronym that stands for Make America Great Again. It was Donald Trump’s slogan during his presidential campaign.

As I understand it, Pres. Biden was saying those that want to Make America Great Again adhere to the most extreme political view in recent American history.

In case there is any doubt about this, readers should know that Biden has called for the establishment of world government several times during his long political career.

Here are just 4 things he said along those lines:

  • On April 5, 2013, he spoke as Vice Pres. of the U.S. at the Export Import Bank Conference in Washington, DC, where he said, “The affirmative task we have now is to actually create a new world order.”
  • On Jan. 4, 2021, Pres. Elect Biden said, “It is time to change America.”
  • On Feb. 19, 2021, he spoke as Pres. of the U.S. to the G-7 nations and then to the Munich Security Conference and declared an end to Trump’s “America First” agenda.
  • On Mar. 21, 2022, he spoke at the Business Roundtable’s CEO Quarterly Meeting and said, “There is going to be a New World Order out there, and we’ve got to lead it. We’ve got to unite the rest of the free world in doing it.”

How can anyone in their right mind believe that putting America first is “the most extreme political view in recent American history?”

How can anyone in their right mind believe that those that want to put America first are more extreme than the KKK, Antifa, the abortionists that want to kill babies up to a month after birth, those that want to teach LGBTQ to children in kindergarten, those that want to force people to be vaccinated or lose their job, etc.?

This is the man that wants to create a Disinformation Governance Board and have it headed up by a known purveyor of disinformation (a known liar).

According to the Bible, the New World Order (world government) he supports will be run by Satan himself, and according to Jesus, there will “be great tribulation, such was not since the beginning of the world, to this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Matt. 24:21).

The time will come when world leaders will long for the days of the MAGA crowd (Rev. 6:15-17).

(More: On May 5, 2022, Attorney Generals from 20 states signed a letter to Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) Sec. Mayorkas “to insist that you immediately cease taking action that appears designed exclusively for the purpose of suppressing the exercise of constitutional rights.”)

Here are some related current events.

One, concerning world government: on May 4, 2022, it was reported that a member of the EU parliament is warning that the World Health Organization (WHO) is working on amendments to existing treaties between the WHO and member nations that will allow the WHO to seize power over those nations during a pandemic.

If a pandemic is declared, nations will have no power to resist a WHO assumption of power, and they want these amendments to go into effect before the end of 2024.

Two, concerning pandemics: on May 3, 2022, global government activist Bill Gates said the world hasn’t seen the worst of Covid and that an “even more transmissive and even more fatal” variant is on the horizon.

Three, concerning food shortages and ultimately famine: on May 6, 2022, Bloomberg reported that 37 million chickens and turkeys have been killed in the U.S. because of the current outbreak of bird flu, and more will probably be killed in the coming months.

Four, concerning inflation and deceit: the White House said it is temporary, but on May 2, 2022, diesel fuel reached the highest average price on record, and on May 10, 2022, gasoline prices reached the highest average price on record.

The higher fuel cost will cause the price of food (and everything else) to go up.

On May 10, 2022, Biden finally admitted that inflation is a problem, but instead of admitting that he destroyed America’s energy independence or that the White House, Senate, and House are controlled by Democrats, and they control the economy, he blamed Putin’s war, Covid and ultra-MAGA Republicans.

The situation will continue to get worse because Biden and the Democrats won’t face the real problem (they have turned their back on God and the truth). Build Back Better is about weakening America; globalism is about establishing a godless world government and religion; abortion and the gay agenda are contrary to Scripture; a Disinformation Governance Board is about denial of free speech, etc.

Five, concerning the days of Noah (when the wickedness of man was great): on May 3, 2022, Pres. Biden was commenting on the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion on Roe v. Wade when he said, “the idea that we’re going to make a judgment that is going to say that no one can make the judgment to choose to abort a child based on a decision by the Supreme Court … goes way overboard.”

Notice, Biden’s admission that people are choosing to abort (kill) a child.

Many politicians are voting to fund the killing of children, some doctors are taking money to kill children, and many in the Church are okay with killing children (some even after birth).

The home addresses of Supreme Court judges that voted to end Roe v. Wade have been published, and citizens are demonstrating outside the judges’ homes for the right to kill children.

In Los Angeles, rioters that want to kill children threw rocks at the police and busted windows out of squad cars.

(Another sign of the days of Noah was people ignoring Noah’s prophetic message that a Flood was coming and living like everything was okay; Matt. 24:38. That seems to be the attitude of many in the Church today.)

Six, concerning the Battle of Gog and Magog (an attack by Russia and her allies on Israel in the latter days and latter years): on May 6, 2022, it was reported that Russian experts believe “the distance between the two countries (Russia and Israel), which traditionally have belonged to different camps, will grow and the tensions will continue to mount, further destabilizing the Middle East.”

Seven, concerning Russia and her Islamic allies attacking Israel in the latter days and latter years to take a prey: on May 9, 2022, oil and gas producer, Energean, announced the discovery of 8 billion cubic meters (cfm) of natural gas off the coast of Israel, and it is in an area that could contain 58 billion cfm of natural gas.

Eight, concerning world government and population control: in late Apr. 2022, it was reported that the World Economic Forum (WEF) thinks there are too many people on the planet, and officials are now suggesting that older citizens consider euthanasia “for the children.”

Nine, concerning pestilences during the Tribulation Period: on May 8, 2022, it was reported that official U.S. government Centers for Disease Control (CDC) data strongly suggests that fully vaccinated citizens are developing Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

The U.S. data is also confirmed by government data in Canada and the UK.

AIDS can be caused by many things (the HIV virus, radiation, chemotherapy, leukemia, malnutrition, etc.).

This writer believes weakened immune systems may be a contributing factor in the death of multitudes from famine and pestilence during the Tribulation Period.

Ten, concerning peace in the Middle East: on May 9, 2022, it was reported that Saudi Arabia will put $2 billion into a fund that is investing in high-tech companies in Israel.

Saudi Arabia has not joined the Abraham Accords and has no diplomatic relations with Israel, but her ties with Israel are growing, and Saudi Arabia has said under the right circumstances (an agreement over Jerusalem and the Temple Mount), Saudi Arabia would formalize relations with the Jewish state.

The circumstances for a peace treaty are not right, but they are moving in the right direction.

Eleven, concerning a cashless society: on May 1, 2022, it was reported that the Bank for International Settlements said up to 90% of the world’s national banks are studying the use of a digital currency, and more than half are developing them or already experimenting with their use.

This is the bottom line: It appears to be just a matter of time until the world adopts a global digital currency that can be tracked.

Finally, are you Rapture Ready?

If you want to be rapture ready and go to heaven, you must be born-again (John 3:3). God loves you, and if you have not done so, sincerely admit that you are a sinner; believe that Jesus is the virgin-born, sinless Son of God who died for the sins of the world, was buried, and raised from the dead; ask Him to forgive your sins, cleanse you, come into your heart and be your Saviour; then tell someone that you have done this.

Stupidocrisy: The Inflation Debate :: By Bill Wilson

Democrats, and the Biden Administration, in particular, are running hard for the November mid-term elections—that is, running hard away from the policies that have destroyed a perfectly robust American economy. Their policies have produced record gasoline prices. The cost of living for some people in this country has become unbearable. One nearly needs a loan from the bank to fill up their car and get a week’s worth of groceries.

Yet White House Council of Economic Advisors Chair Cecilia Rouse told CNN’s “New Day” on Tuesday that inflation “has been the consequence of mounting an effective response to the pandemic.”

What? If this is effective, maybe there is beachfront property for sale in Arizona.

Rouse said, “Because while we supported households and businesses, got shots into arms, which allowed people to start to come out of their homes and regain their lives, our supply chains could not support that demand. So, this is — we are not alone. All advanced countries are addressing…this. So, this is a consequence of having an effective strategy against the pandemic.”

She earlier said that the higher gasoline prices were due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She juked a question about government spending causing inflation. Both Rouse and the CNN reporter neglected to mention that under Donald Trump, the economy was beginning to recover.

Ongoing business lockdowns disrupt supply chains. Democrats ignore this.

Biden, in a speech Tuesday, also said that the two leading causes of inflation were Russia and the supply chain disruption of the pandemic. He blamed inflation on everything but his policies.

Remember his very first day in office, Biden placed a stop work order on the keystone pipeline, and then he stopped drilling on public lands. On January 18, 2021, just before Joe Biden took office, the national average price of gasoline at the pump was $2.464 per gallon. On March 1, 2021, it was $2.796, an increase of 33 cents per gallon in only 40 days. Now it’s $4.279. Let’s remember the COVID mandates in Democrat-run cities that caused a record backlog of supply ships waiting to be unloaded—that’s policy, not pandemic.

Biden, in the same speech, also struck a delusional chord. He began by saying, “And as I see it, everything—everything– across the country is–as I go across the country, our economy has gone from being on the mend to on the move.”

I don’t know what country Biden is seeing, but people are hurting, and his solution is to blame everything on Russia and the pandemic instead of fixing the stupidity he and his cronies created.

Proverbs 18:2 says, “A fool has no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.”

Biden’s policies on oil and COVID caused this inflation. It should be no debate. Every time government spending is out of control and leftists seek to stop the use of oil with no viable replacement, inflation happens. But as Proverbs says, a fool has no delight in understanding.

Say it with me… Stupidocrisy.

Michele Bachmann: Secretive WHO vote threatens American sovereignty | Jihad Watch

The Biden administration appears to be prepared to hand control of America’s national sovereignty over to the World Health Organization (WHO), as Michelle Bachmann explained on Steve Bannon’s War Room.

From May 22 to 28, 2022, the 75th World Health Assembly convenes at the UN in Geneva to vote on proposals that will enable the WHO to assert unprecedented power over the health choices of American citizens, effectively taking control over American sovereignty. Americans never thought this would happen or could happen. But it is now a genuine possibility.

These proposals would have the U.S. cede sovereignty to the WHO during anything that was deemed a health emergency. All in your best interests, of course.

Sen. Rick Scott Fires a Warning Shot: Biden Admin Is Giving Chinese and WHO National Sovereignty Over US Health Policy — The Gateway Pundit

The Biden regime is preparing to sign an agreement with the corrupt, China-led World Health Organization (WHO) that will give US sovereignty on health care decisions over to the WHO.

The COVID crisis was horrible and horribly managed. China to this day has not been held responsible. The WHO worked with China in predicting massive unfounded mortality losses while recommending shutting down entire economies. They have taken no responsibility for unleashing the lab-created virus on the world.

Those in the US who managed the crisis pushed dangerous economy-killing policies while they neglected to promote any organized treatment plan for those suffering from the disease. They closed down the economy while stuffing nursing homes in states like New York with COVID-contaminated patents. Actions recommended by individuals like Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx caused widespread death.

Now Joe Biden is signing over US autonomy over our healthcare decisions to the WHO and therefore, China.

Dean Michelle Bachmann joined Steve Bannon on The War Room to warn about the proposed amendments to cede US sovereignty to the corrupt World Health Organization.

Marvel announces it’s introducing TWO new transgender superheroes in upcoming Pride-edition comic including mutant who can become person she’s stood next to

Marvel is bringing two new transgender characters into their universe with the upcoming debut of Escapade aka Shela Sexton and her partner in fighting crime, Morgan Red.

Announcing the new heroes, Marvel said in a statement that the pair’s first adventure will be in a ‘high-flying, yet intensely personal mission’ on the mutant nation of Krakoa in a special Pride comic.

A press release says the duo ‘tear through the Marvel Universe as professional thieves, stealing from criminal and corrupt organizations’ until an event changes Escapade’s life forever.

The concept was created by transgender writer Charlie Jane Anders who told Marvel’s website that Escapade is a ‘cool weirdo’ with a ‘profound loyalty to her friends.’

The artwork was created by British-based team Ro Stein and Ted Brandt.

Anders began her transition in 2001.

Anders says: ‘I wanted it to be super clear that being a mutant is not a metaphor for being trans, and vice versa.’

In the story, Escapade and Red have been friends since childhood and were there for each other as they transitioned. Anders says: ‘I feel like we are all nothing without our relationships.’

Escapade’s super power is that she can become a person who is standing close enough to her.

Whereas the literature around the release of comic doesn’t mention a superpower for Red, he is described as ‘tech-savvy’ with ‘a tool belt containing an arsenal of stolen tools and devices.’
