Life Together | Today in the Word Devotional

One of the most powerful books about Christian community is Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Life Together. Written during the Nazi regime, it says, “The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community, but the person who loves those around them will create community.” Our dream of what Christian community should be may prevent us from experiencing it. The reality may not live up to our dreams. Bonhoeffer shifts our focus away from imaginary Christian fellowship, urging us instead to love the flesh-and-blood people around us. Psalm 133 celebrates unity within the worshiping community: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” (v. 1). The word “God’s people” literally means “brothers.” Anyone who has grown up with brothers or sisters knows that siblings do not always live in unity. From Cain and Abel to the latest church meeting, evidence of brothers and sisters fighting is all around us. Despite this reality, Psalm 133 reminds us of how powerful it is when (with God’s help) we live in unity. The psalm uses two metaphors to celebrate our spiritual unity. First, unity is compared to oil running down a person’s head. The imagery here comes from Exodus 29 where instructions were given on how to consecrate priests. Anointing oil represented a time of celebration in the presence of God. When we are unified in God, we are set apart to celebrate and worship Him as one. Second, unity is like the dew on Mt. Hermon. This area is well known for its heavy dew which results in lush and vibrant vegetation. This life-giving image is transferred to the more arid region of Zion. The dew shows us how Christian community brings life and blessing. >> Have you experienced unity within the body of Christ? What things do we do that divide us? What can you do to promote this type of life-giving, refreshing unity among your brothers and sisters in the Lord?

The Judge, Part 1 – Listen to Turning Point with Dr. David Jeremiah, May 18, 2022

Even if you’ve never had a brush with the law in this world, you’ll face judgement day in the next. And the verdict you receive will be enforced for eternity. Dr. David Jeremiah considers two very different judgements over which Jesus Himself will preside: one triumphant, one tragic.

The Bible and its Story: The Shulamite

All efforts to construct a completed story from this most intricate of books, must depend largely on fancy; but there is certainly running all through it the piteous picture of the longing woman, once referred to as the Shulamite. “Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return, that we may look upon thee. What will ye see in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies.” Shut away from the care and protection of him to whom she has pledged herself, she spends her time in dreaming of him, in yearning and lamenting. “I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.”

‎“Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

‎“Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.”

The Fulfillment of the Law | Renewing Your Mind with R.C. Sproul

God’s law tells us how to live before Him, but the law cannot empower us to do so. Today, Sinclair Ferguson establishes how Jesus both fulfilled the law and subsequently enables us to keep it.

Fruit of Joy — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

Beloved child of God, listen to your Father’s heart and his ways for you in Galatians 5:22-23,25.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control… Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Listen to God’s Word for you in Nehemiah 8:10.

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

God’s purpose in his creation was his own pleasure. He rejoices in all his works (Psalm 104:31). Job 38:7 says that God laid the foundations of the earth and marked off its dimensions and did all his work of creation while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy. Imagine the same joy of God when he created you! Your Father is joy, and he plants his joy inside you in the person of his Son. Jesus lives in joy in you.

Be blessed to drink deeply of the joy that God your Father has in you as his beloved. Be blessed with his understanding of joy, not the world’s fickle happiness. Be blessed to know the joy of the Lord that gives you the strength to go forward, to press on, to endure hardship. Be blessed with the oil of joy that flows from heaven. God commands for you the blessing of life in his joy, defeating depression, destruction, and death.

Joy is the quiet, inner sense of well-being in Jesus, but it also can be intense motion. Be blessed with rejoicing with intensity that words cannot fully express. Be blessed with Christ’s overflowing joy that bubbles up in you to flow out of you (Philippians 1:26). He promises joy that nobody and nothing can take away (John 16:22). Be blessed as you are filled with the joy that the Holy Spirit imparts in your place in the kingdom (Romans 14:17).

Joy can also be a daily decision and a battle. You can count it all joy in trials of any kind, when you know that your Father does all things well for you. Be blessed as you pursue Jesus who is joy. He came so that you can have this kind of joy. It is his gift to you (Romans 15:13). Be blessed in the incomparable joy of Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). Be blessed to be energized for each new day and each new challenge with joy that comes from him.

Have you ever been blessed to watch someone laugh? You laughed too, for no other reason than that they were joyful. Be contagious with joy in gratitude that you share in the inheritance of his holy people who live in his light (Colossians 1:11-12). Be blessed to be an ambassador of joy in a world filled with stress and sadness. Be blessed as you spread joy wherever you touch the lives of others. Be blessed to lighten the load of others and strengthen weary hearts with the joy of Jesus. Be blessed to brighten and refresh the weary spirits of others with joyful confidence in Jesus.

Be blessed with the joy that the Spirit of joy produces in you, your response to his joy (Galatians 5:22).

Fruit of Joy — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

Be Joyful Always — Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Where does your heart live? That’s what these verses are all about. It’s about where we spend the most time with our hearts. Is there a constant awareness in your life that God is present? Is he the unseen but always present companion in all your ups and downs? Or is God here when it is convenient and gone when things are busy or we feel that everything is going okay? Joy comes from knowing we are never alone. Prayer is the ongoing conversation we have, Spirit to Spirit, child to Abba, human with God. Thanksgiving and joy are the great reminders that we have been blessed no matter what the outward circumstances imply.

Precious and Righteous Father, thank you for being there, always. Give me a deeper appreciation and a more profound awareness of your presence today. May my life reflect the joy you have given me by saving me by grace. And may my heart always find its home in you. Through the name of Jesus my Savior and friend I pray. Amen.

The Bible and its Story: The Protest of Devotion

Without some such understanding as the foregoing of the “Song of Solomon,” it becomes a medley of love speeches. Critics have tried to set these in some sort of order, to interpret them, and discover, underlying them, the tale of some ancient love on earth, whether of Solomon or another.

‎There are fragments which suggest a king riding forth from Jerusalem with his splendid escort, and meeting a village maid, a Shulamite, with whom he falls in love. He carries her perforce to his palace, where she converses with the women of his harem. She admits herself to be browned with the sun, not carefully nurtured and fair like the others. “Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards.”

‎She protests to the women that she does not desire their splendor; for she has already a shepherd lover to whom all her heart is given. She then flees from the palace and is wounded in an effort to find her beloved, to whom she is ultimately reunited.

Heidelminicast: Heidelberg Catechism 88—What Is Repentance? — The Heidelblog

The Heidelberg Catechism is one of the most beloved and well used catechisms to emerge from the sixteenth and seventeenth century Reformation. Published in its final form in 1563, the catechism has been used by millions of Christians to teach the faith to children and adults alike. Arranged in 52 Lord’s Days (Sundays) the catechism takes the Christian through the basics of the Christian faith (our creation, fall, redemption, new life in Christ, and glorification). It explains the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments, and the Lord’s Prayer. It is a treasure. To encourage listeners and readers, we expect to post one question and answer a day on the HB. If you are subscribed to the Heidelcast or the Heidelblog (see below) you will receive these episodes automatically.

After Russia opens fire on Israel in Syria, rabbis consider possible “Gog-Magog scenario”
Media reports claim that a Russian S-300 anti-air battery opened fire on Friday night against IDF warplanes operating over northwestern Syria, marking the first time Russia has actively interfered with an Israeli air attack in Syria. The fact that the maneuver originated in the ‘north’ and was executed by Moscow has rabbis in Israel noticing several parallels to the War of Gog and Magog as prophesied in the Book of Ezekiel. “Two possible Gog and Magog scenarios”

Buchanan: Why Would US Give A War Guarantee… To Finland?
Nervous about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intentions, Finland wants America legally and morally bound to fight Russia on its behalf, should Putin invade Finland as he invaded Ukraine. From the Finnish point of view, this is perfectly understandable. What patriot would commit his own country, in perpetuity, to go to war on behalf of another country not his own? By welcoming Finland into NATO, Biden is offering Helsinki the kind of war guarantee Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain gave to Poland in the spring of 1939, which led to Britain’s having to declare war on Sept. 3, 1939, two days after Germany invaded Poland.

US Set To Block Russian Debt Payments, Pushing Moscow Closer To Historic Default
The latest attempt at inflicting maximum punishment and pressure on Russia amid its grinding war in Ukraine has many scratching their heads, as the US is now set to block Moscow’s ability to pay its sovereign debt – though ironically which Russia appears ready and willing to pay, if it weren’t for the far reaching US-led sanctions imposed on its central financial institutions in the first place.

US Media Begins Calling To Expel Turkey From NATO As Finland, Sweden Seek Entry
An op-ed in CNN this week has called on NATO to expel Turkey if it doesn’t agree to admit new applicants Finland and Sweden into the Western military alliance. Ankara has so far appeared to slam the door on the prospect, calling the Scandinavian nations “terror supporters” over the outlawed Kurdish PKK issue.

Biden Will Ease Sanctions On Venezuela’s Maduro Amid Scramble For Alternative Oil
The Biden administration will ease sanctions on Venezuela and its strongman President Nicolás Maduro, senior admin officials have told several media outlets, in yet another reversal of a key Trump policy. The Miami Herald is reporting that in exchange for a softening of sanctions, which have included blocking the government’s access to US debt and equity markets – and have particularly targeted state-run oil company PDVSA in an oil embargo – Caracas has committed to a formal dialogue with the Venezuelan opposition in Mexico City.

“The Real President Is Whoever Controls The Teleprompter”: Musk Delivers Scathing Criticism Of Biden
“I mean, the obvious reason for inflation is that the government printed a zillion amount of more money than it had, obviously,” Musk said, likely referring to COVID-19 relief stimulus packages worth trillions of dollars that were passed in recent years. The real president is whoever controls the teleprompter … There were a lot of people in the [Trump] administration who were effective at getting things done. This administration seems just to not have like the drive to just get shit done.” Jeff Bezos, also one of the richest people in the world, has increasingly started to target the administration’s economic policies. Bezos, in a series of Twitter posts, said the rapid increase in federal spending is the reason why inflation is as high as it is.

Virginia Mom Sues School Over ‘Anti-Racism’ Policy
Melissa Riley is suing the Albemarle County School Board over its “anti-racism” policy that she believes completely shifted her biracial son’s outlook on race, she told “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Monday. It’s never right for a school to teach kids that they are determined by their race,” he added. “It’s never OK for a school to tell kids that bigotry should be fought with bigotry and racism should be fought by doubling down on racism. Those things are not OK. They’re a violation of students’ civil rights.”

Fed’s Powell vows to raise rates as high as needed to kill inflation surge

Bill Gates And World Health Organization Drafting A Global Pandemic Treaty Is Nothing Less Than Bringing In The Government That Antichrist Will Require
Remember a few weeks ago on the Prophecy News Podcast, we told you about Bill Gates creating something called the GERM Team? As it turns out, the GERM Team is part of a larger deal involving the World Health Organization that includes a…wait for it…global pandemic treaty. What power does this give to Bill Gates and the organization that he is the largest single donor of, the World Health Organization? It allows them to fully implement the end times government of Antichrist. I make this statement without a trace of irony or hyperbole.

Watch As On Fire 11-Year Old Ainsley Grace Bakondy Gives The Gospel To Gay School Board Member While Rebuking Their Child Grooming Agenda
Here at NTEB, I am constantly calling Bible believing Christians to open their mouth, to speak up, and get in the game witnessing the Lord Jesus Christ to a God-hating, sin-loving, Jesus Christ rejecting world. As it turns out, 11-year old Ainsley Grace Bakondy took me literally and went and witnessed Jesus Christ to members of her local school board in Sarasota who are promoting the gay grooming agenda we talked about yesterday. Man oh man, if we could get some adults on fire like 11-year old Ainsley, we would really have something. Watch the video below to see just how awesome Ainsley was.

Food Riots In Sri Lanka Turn Deadly As Protesters Beat Up Police, Burn Down Politicians’ Houses
Two months ago, we noted the first Arab Spring 2.0 incident when, as a result of soaring food, energy (and everything else) prices, thousands of angry Iraqis took to the street to protest. Needless to say, their complaints did not get much traction, and in the meantime food prices have only exploded to fresh record highs, far surpassing the levels hit in 2011 when riots against, you guessed it, food prices toppled most MENA political regimes (not without some CIA backing).

Busting Biden’s Buffalo Bluster

The rare instance of white supremacist violence is a Demo dog whistle diversion from the real disparity in interracial violence.

Mark Alexander

On the pretext of “comforting the families of victims,” Joe Biden, a.k.a. “President Unity,” went to Buffalo in order to use the caskets of the dead as a political soapbox to blame his opponents for the killing of innocents by a deranged assailant. I covered that assault in detail the day prior to Biden’s visit.

I call it the pretext of “comforting the families of victims” because Biden did not go to Boulder, Colorado, to comfort the families of victims a year ago after a very similar attack at a food market by a 21-year-old Trump-hating Islamist immigrant who murdered 10 white men and women.

Nor did he go to Waukesha, Wisconsin, to comfort families of victims five months ago after an avowed black supremacist murdered seven people and injured 60 others at a Christmas parade. He didn’t go to New York a month ago when 10 commuters were attacked on a subway by another black supremacist. Nor did he mention the Laguna Woods, California, church attack by a Chinese immigrant the day after the Buffalo attack.

He has not traveled across the country to comfort the families of victims murdered by gang and drug thugs who are responsible for the daily carnage on Demos’ urban poverty plantations across our nation, like those who committed the “mass assault” in downtown Sacramento a month ago, killing six. Nor did he mention the families of those three people murdered in Milwaukee, five in Chicago, and five more in St. Louis — and more than 80 others murdered by thugs nationwide the same weekend as the Buffalo attack.

Obviously, those assailants and assaults did not fit the Left’s racial narrative, so those stories quickly faded from the mainstream media’s footnotes on crime — as did coverage of the more than 21,000 other murders in the latest year of record. They were of no value as political fodder for Democrat Party politicos.

Biden and his cadre are not about to mention the fact that black people commit 90% of interracial felonies — black on white or Hispanic — despite representing just 13% of our population. Nor will they mention the tragic fact that 88% of the suspects who murdered black people are also black.

The rare instance of white supremacist violence is a loud Demo/MSM dog whistle diversion from the real disparity in interracial violence and the cultural reality of black-on-black violence.

By comparison with the aforementioned 21,000 murders, according to the latest FBI data on “mass shootings” — which it defines as “one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area” — in a nation of 330 million people, there were 38 victims in 2020, there were 43 victims in 2021, and including Buffalo and Sacramento, there have been 30 victims this year.

So, Joe, why Buffalo?

Because it fit Biden’s diversionary claim that the most “lethal threat to the homeland” is actually white supremacy.

In addition to an opportunity to vilify his opponents, Biden and his entourage of hate hustlers could use the tragedy to undermine the Second Amendment, for reasons I outlined last week. It was a two-for-one political bait bargain he could not resist.

We got a hint of what he would say before his departure, as Politico noted he was “telling aides that he no longer recognizes the GOP, which he now views as an existential threat to the nation’s democracy.” In other words, if you disagree with Joe Biden and his thugs, you are an existential threat to our nation.

And apparently, his chief political strategist must now be Rep. Liz Cheney (?-WY), who demonstrated her lunacy level by declaring: “The House GOP leadership has enabled white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-semitism. … GOP leaders must renounce and reject these views and those who hold them.” As if the GOP has ever embraced such views. That was a perfect fit for Biden’s effort to claim that anyone who disagrees with his open-border policy is a racist “replacement theory” conspiracy theorist.

Cheney is confusing the history of the Republican Party with that of the racist Democrat Party, whose protagonists were, and remain, the architects of white supremacy.

What did Biden actually say?

After appropriately mentioning the victims, Biden declared: “In America, evil will not win — I promise you. Hate will not prevail. And white supremacy will not have the last word. For the evil did come to Buffalo, and it’s come to all too many places, manifested in gunmen who massacred innocent people in the name of hateful and perverse ideology rooted in fear and racism. What happened here is simple and straightforward: terrorism. Terrorism. Domestic terrorism. Violence inflicted in the service of hate and a vicious thirst for power that defines one group of people being inherently inferior to any other group.”

He continued, “A hate that through the media and politics, the Internet…” That was his jump-off for broadly painting his opponents and conservative media with a brush of blame: “I condemn those who spread the lie for power, political gain, and for profit. … It’s a poison running through — it really is — running through our body politic.”

He claimed: “I wasn’t going to run … again for president. I, honest to God … I was going to be darned if I was going to let — anyway. Don’t want to get going.” But he then declared that the battle between antifa v. alt-right thugs in Charlottesville, which he repeatedly attempted to blame on Donald Trump (fact-checked FALSE), motivated him to run again.

He then built a bridge between Trump and white supremacists: “Heads of state and other countries ask me, ‘What’s going on? What in God’s name happened on January 6th? What happened in Buffalo? What happ- [unintelligible].’”

He mumbled incoherently: “All chil- — life, liberty, our universal goods — gifts of God. We didn’t get it from the government, we got it from — because we exist, and we’re called upon to defend them.” But in a more lucid moment he said: “Look, the American experiment in democracy is in a danger like it hasn’t been in my lifetime. It’s in danger this hour.”

Ironically, the greatest threat to our nation is not “white supremacy”; it is Joe Biden.

Democrats Bludgeon Republicans With ‘Replacement’

Color us shocked to learn that the Party of Joe Biden is using race to divide the American people.

Douglas Andrews

Watch out, Whitey. You’re being replaced, uh, demographied.

Last week, we noted that the Left is wrecking the English language by inventing idiotic terms such as “pregnant people” and “people seeking an abortion,” and then trying to cancel anyone who dares to use biologically accurate and millennia-old terms like “pregnant women” and “women seeking an abortion.”

This week, in the wake of a massacre in Buffalo, we see that another term has fallen out of favor on the Left: replacement, as in replacement theory, as in the theory that explains why white people commit acts of violence against non-whites.

First, we should note the empirical fact that, as researcher Heather Mac Donald has pointed out, white people are mere pikers when it comes to interracial crime:

Far from destroying the black body, whites are the overwhelming target of interracial violence. Between 2012 and 2015, blacks committed 85.5 percent of all black-white interracial violent victimizations (excluding interracial homicide, which is also disproportionately black-on-white). That works out to 540,360 felonious assaults on whites. Whites committed 14.4 percent of all interracial violent victimization, or 91,470 felonious assaults on blacks. Blacks are less than 13 percent of the national population.

Our own Mark Alexander likewise analyzes this reality today.

This, of course, doesn’t excuse the unspeakable violence of the Buffalo mass murderer, but race-obsessed Democrats would do us all a service if they kept such things in perspective.

According to his 180-page manifesto, the Buffalo assailant was intent on killing “as many blacks as possible,” an intent that allegedly came from his belief in “great replacement theory,” a conspiracy theory that elites in society are banding together to replace white people with non-white people, and also, naturally, the cultural influence and political power of whites. These conspiratorialists point to the decline in birth rates among whites and the mass migration of non-whites into the U.S. as proof.

It seems a few more facts are in order. As Kyle Smith at National Review points out: “Old white people who vote heavily Republican are dying out. No one disputes this. The birth rate among American citizens has been falling steadily and is now at the level that will lead to a shrinking population, not counting immigration. No one disputes this either. Yet America’s population continues to grow anyway because of immigrants, who are mostly non-white. No one disputes this either.”

Smith then points out the hypocrisy of, for example, The New York Times, which calls replacement theory a “racist,” “white supremacist,” “fringe conspiracy theory” but at the same time “embraces the supposedly taboo idea when it’s called ‘the power of shifting demographics.’”

What’s the difference between “replacement” and “shifting demographics”? Not a thing. And yet the one term is forbidden, and the other is approved for use.

The larger point, though, is that our changing demographics — the gradual replacement of whites by non-whites — is being used by Democrats to attack all Republicans. Take Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, for example:

Every time MAGA Republicans or pundits vilify wrongly immigrants and call them invaders, every time they falsely claim that millions of undocumented people cast ballots in our elections, and every time loud bigoted voices bemoan the disintegration of an imagined “classic” America, the subtext is clear: these hard-right MAGA Republicans argue that people of color and minority communities are somehow posing a threat — a threat — to the American way of life.

As the editors of The Wall Street Journal write, “Democrats and the mainstream media want to use ‘replacement theory’ as a stigma to smear as racist anyone who doesn’t like open borders, or critical race theory, or the Democratic Party’s hyper-race consciousness.”

What a despicable way to try to gin up votes.

Executive News Summary

Thomas Gallatin & Jordan Candler

Tuesday’s primaries, another illegal border crossing record, Kamala sure is busy breaking ties, and more.

Top of the Fold

  • Yesterday’s primaries: winners and losers: Five states held their primary elections yesterday, which included a few notable races. The contest for Pennsylvania’s GOP Senate candidate remains too close to call, as the Donald Trump-endorsed Dr. Mehmet Oz is neck and neck with David McCormick. A recount may be likely. The other big winner in PA on the Republican side is state Senator Doug Mastriano, who won the GOP’s gubernatorial nomination. Another noteworthy race down in North Carolina saw the Republicans’ youngest House representative defeated. Madison Cawthorn, despite the fact that he had been endorsed by Trump, narrowly lost to state Senator Chuck Edwards, thanks in large part to Cawthorn’s own problematic behavior. Controversies surrounding Cawthorn combined with his dishonesty regarding fellow GOP lawmakers was enough to move Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) to take the unusual step of endorsing Cawthorn’s opponent. However, North Carolina was not all bad for Trump, as another of his endorsees, Representative Ted Budd, easily won the primary for the state’s GOP Senate candidate. On the Democrat side, the far-Left had a good night. PA’s Lt. Governor John Fetterman easily defeated moderate Representative Conor Lamb. While this victory likely excites the party’s leftists, it might not bode well for Democrats in November.
  • Another illegal border crossing record: April saw a record number of 234,088 migrants caught by U.S. Customs and Border Protection illegally entering the country. This number is the highest single month total in at least a century of records and almost surely the entirety of American history. It’s also a 30% increase over last April’s total. Since Joe Biden has taken office, Border Patrol has encountered more than 2.75 million migrants, representing a massive increase over Donald Trump’s time in office. Keep in mind that April’s record total comes prior to the Biden administration’s scheduled time to end the Title 42 policy, which allows Border Patrol to immediately turn back migrants without having to go through time-consuming and arduous removal procedures due to the COVID pandemic. It’s clear that the Biden administration’s intention is to get as many illegal aliens into the U.S. as possible to bolster the Democrat Party’s ranks. Never mind the humanitarian crisis it has created, or the downward pressure on American workers’ wages, or the increase in drug trafficking and resulting death.
  • “President Unity’s” VP sure is busy breaking ties: Kamala Harris has found herself sitting in the Senate nearly as often as she did when she was a senator from California. This is due, of course, to the fact that the Senate is split 50-50 between the two parties. Thus far, and just 15 months into Biden’s term, Harris has voted 23 times to break ties, placing her third-highest all time for U.S. VP tiebreakers. Just John C. Calhoun (31) and John Adams (29) cast more tiebreaking votes. Given that it is so early in Biden’s term, Harris’s chances of jumping to the top of the list are likely, though that may assume Democrats will be able to hold onto Senate control. And that prospect is looking less and less likely by the day. Thanks to Biden and the Democrats, Americans are seeing skyrocketing gas prices, no end in sight to high inflation, and a baby formula shortage — and those are just the tip of the iceberg. So for the Leftmedia whining about how a divided Senate has kept Harris in DC and unable to get out and make a bigger impact — never mind the fact that every time she has left DC she’s done little other than embarrass herself and the Biden administration — just give it a few months. Come January, after Republicans have retaken majority control of the Senate in November’s elections, Harris will once again be free from any Senate duty, free to continue her gaffing tours.

The Biden Diesel Hike

It’s not just gas prices hitting records, and everything you buy is costing significantly more to transport.

Nate Jackson

Every American is painfully aware of the high price of a gallon of gas. Well, unless you’re one of those intrepid souls saving the planet with the electric car Pete Buttigieg told you to buy. But an equally big economic problem is the price of diesel because it affects the price of everything (remaining) on store shelves.

First, about those gas prices. For nine days in a row now, the U.S. has set new nominal price records. (Adjusted for inflation, prices were higher a decade ago.) Today’s national average price is $4.567 a gallon, which is 16 cents higher than one week ago, $1.52 higher than one year ago, and $2.17 higher than when Donald Trump left office. For the first time ever, all 50 states now have average gas prices of more than $4 per gallon.

Congratulations on these incredible records, President Brandon.

But wait — there’s more.

One year ago, diesel was $3.17 a gallon, but today’s national average is a record $5.57. “Yeah, well, I’m glad I don’t drive a diesel,” you may be thinking. True, but truckers do, and that has implications for your budget. As Jim Geraghty astutely observes, “We are now reaching the point where the cost of diesel fuel is making some goods too expensive to transport.” He quotes one trucker who said: “If you’re getting paid $2 per mile you’re not taking that load no matter if it is baby formula or orange juice because the cost of diesel is $5 plus. You just can’t take that load.”

And you thought it was hard to get baby formula last week or the week before.

Indeed, the price of diesel could lead to disastrous shortages and supply chain wreckage worse than what we’ve already endured.

For his part, Joe Biden sounds like Jenny’s abusive boyfriend in “Forrest Gump” — “It’s just this war and that lyin’ son of a b*tch Putin!” But the president bears an awful lot of blame for the current situation, shutting down pipelines, revoking leases, and insisting that the resulting high prices are all the more justification for realizing his “green” energy utopian dreams. Or that the best way to “bring down inflation” is to “make sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share.”

To be sure, some of the problems extend further back than Biden’s presidency or beyond the reach of his own policies. For example, the cost of refining accounts for nearly a quarter of the cost of diesel, and refining has been a problem for a long time. Another example is that taxes are higher on diesel than on gas both federally and in many of the states (California’s diesel tax is nearly $1 per gallon).

But Biden’s party is responsible for those things.

The U.S. has seen six refineries close in the last couple of years, with the result being that, as Geraghty notes, “the U.S. started 2021 with its lowest annual refining capacity in six years.” He adds, “We’re getting back to pre-pandemic levels of demand, while our refineries are pumping out about a million fewer gallons of fuel per day than they did before the pandemic.” That accounts for a 5% reduction in capacity, and it’s likely to get even worse over the coming years. Higher demand and lower supply is a bad combination.

Geraghty expands on that problem:

We almost never build oil refineries in the U.S. anymore. According to the EIA, the newest refinery in the United States is the Targa Resources Corporation’s site in Channelview, Texas, which began operating in 2019 and processes 35,000 barrels per day. Before that, the newest refinery with significant downstream unit capacity was Marathon’s facility in Garyville, La. That facility came online in 1977.

Are there plans for new refineries? Nope.

Biden had been a senator for only four years in 1977. The problem isn’t all his, but his party’s environmental policies and draconian regulations are certainly to blame for this predicament. Oil companies chose not to take the risk of investing in such ventures as refineries because to do so ran afoul of Democrat politics.

“Nothing about the current environment is promoting investments in fossil fuels,” said Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Fernando Valle. “It’s a 15 to 20 year payback on most of these investments.”

Why do that when electric cars are the government-mandated future?

What Joe Biden has done to the fossil fuel industry is hitting every American at the gas pump and anywhere they buy anything that now costs substantially more to transport than it did before he took office. But hey, at least we don’t have a president who mean-tweets.

Bernie Brings Back Medicare for All

What better time than during rampant inflation to turn over one-fifth of the economy entirely to the government?

Michael Swartz

With government spending at an all-time high, inflation running rampant, the Biden administration stuffing Ukraine’s wartime coffers to the tune of $40 billion, and Democrats contemplating spending even more money on relieving thousands of borrowers from paying off their own student loans, Bernie Sanders picked this to be the time to bring back the old chestnut of Medicare for All.

In an op-ed posted at, of all places, Fox News, Sanders told us what we already knew: “The United States has the most dysfunctional, inefficient, bureaucratic and expensive health care system in the world.” That would be the same health system Democrats “fixed” in 2009 with ObamaCare.

Citing the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Sanders claims we spend “an unbelievable $12,530 per person for health care.” Actually, we do believe it, but the question is why we spend so much. Sanders, of course, blames insurance company and Big Pharma greed for ratcheting up costs. Then he makes the dubious assertion that “the Congressional Budget Office estimated that Medicare for All would save Americans $650 billion a year.” Even if you take Sanders at his word, though, that will only knock the cost per American down about $2,000. Funny, there was a president a few years back who claimed his healthcare solution would save us about that much, and we see how well that worked.

Indeed, Sanders tacitly acknowledges how well it worked: “Despite this huge expenditure [per person], 30 million Americans have no insurance at all and 112 million struggle to pay for the health care they need.” Ergo, he argues, Congress should pass his Medicare for All Act of 2022 and turn over even more of our healthcare to the same party that screwed it up so badly in 2009.

Once Steven Hayward at Power Line realized that Fox News hadn’t become a satire site by running the Sanders piece, he disassembled most of Sanders’s contention in one sentence: “It is federal regulation that has driven the bureaucratization and cost explosion of health care in both the public and private sector.” We would add only that the states are often right behind the feds with additional mandates in coverage.

Having lived through ObamaCare and its various iterations, such as the “public option” proposal, state-based “exchanges,” and the short-lived boondoggle of “risk corridors,” there’s little doubt that the federal government would mess up the one-car funeral of Medicare for All, too.

John Hinderaker must have heard Hayward laughing, so he piled on with his own assessment of Bernie’s retread proposal, reminding us of how government healthcare works oh-so-well across the pond in the UK, where a new book by a former head of the National Health Service describes a “cover-up culture.” Meanwhile, says Hinderaker, British citizens who need dental work are having a harder time finding dentists because nearly 90% of them won’t accept new patients. That’s our future under Medicare for All.

We’re not going to sit here and tell you that the system we have is perfectly fine, but the tweaks that are required to correct it don’t point it in the direction of more government intervention. The symptoms are right there to see when you visit your doctor’s office and see an entire staff of non-medical professionals whose job is made necessary by the complexity put in place by both the government and private-sector insurance — although the latter is often simply made to conform with the former. In fact, you may see those staffers longer than you see your doctor, who is being forced by the powers that be to rush through patient care in order to keep the business going.

If we can lower that artificial overhead, that would quickly give us a savings we can live with.

Christians Hijacking Homeschooling?

An MSNBC columnist neglects the core reasons that parents are fleeing public schools.

Emmy Griffin

An opinion column by Anthea Butler for MSNBC flat-out accuses white evangelical Christians of hijacking homeschooling. Her premise focuses on the shift to homeschooling that, she claims, occurred as a direct response to Brown v. Board of Education — the 1954 Supreme Court decision that integrated schools. In other words, evangelical homeschoolers are segregationists. But her main thesis isn’t the tired bromide about supposed conservative racism, but that the movement toward homeschooling thanks to the pandemic “is part of a larger project about dismantling the public education system in the United States.”

Let’s start with her inevitable first claim of racism. To give Butler the benefit of the doubt, some parents may have withdrawn their children from public schools after the Brown v. Board of Education decision. But the claim that homeschooling was a direct response to the Supreme Court’s ruling ignores the grand history of homeschooling in the United States that was prominent before Brown and has gained significant traction between 2020-2022.

Her next charge that homeschooling was hijacked by the religious Right also ignores history. Homeschooling has always had a religious bent. Parents who were seeking to educate their children at home wanted them to be literate and to be able to read the Bible. To quote John Adams, this country and its laws are made for a “moral and religious people.” Parents wanted to ensure that their children could read religious texts for themselves.

Though irrelevant to her core argument, Butler’s final plea that public schools are underfunded and dealing with staffing issues and violence is still poignant to point out. She neglects to mention why. Schools are “underfunded” partially because progressive-minded teachers unions, school administrators, and school boards squander funds on nonessentials like “anti-racist” teacher training. Schools are dealing with staffing issues because of bad leftist policies (like refusing to hire teachers who might be conservative) and plain teacher burnout. Violence is a horrible tragedy in public schools, though this is due to societal ills exacerbated by bad leftist policy — fatherless homes, welfare-trapped poor, gangs, and guidelines that cripple public schools’ ability to address the problem in an effective way.

Butler does admit that besides racism, parents are leaving for other reasons. She touches on the fact that parents of every race and creed have started retreating to homeschooling after seeing firsthand the indoctrination of their children. Parents entrusted the public school system to teach their children reading, writing, math, history, geography, science, and other important skills to prepare them for the future workforce. Schools have betrayed that trust and are foisting the critical race theory worldview and “Queer Marxism” on children in lieu of actually educating them. It creates an ignorant, easily manipulated population for down the road. Yet Butler feels that homeschooling creates an environment rife with child abuse and indoctrination. Oh, the irony…

Butler neglects another core reason that parents are fleeing public schools. Their children might be struggling with a learning disability that requires more personalized attention that can be addressed more effectively in a homeschool setting. These disabilities are not effectively addressed in public school classrooms that are notoriously overcrowded. The increase in learning disabilities amongst children is a major issue that has grown exponentially over the past decade. It’s not just that more children are being diagnosed early with disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia; it’s that there has been an actual growth in cases. Some of the reasons for this increase in learning disabilities include: diets, environmental issues, genetic issues, lack of social interaction, lack of play in early education, parental unwillingness to teach, growing up in a digital age, and cultural priorities that deemphasize academic excellence.

Butler’s article is ultimately just leftist propaganda that doesn’t actually address why parents are deciding to homeschool their children. That’s because the fruits of the poisonous tree would lead back to these same failed leftist education policies. More and more parents are unwilling to sacrifice their children on the altar of the leftist agenda. It is unsurprising that Butler is trying to salvage that sinking ship the only way she knows how: by painting the homeschooling community as racist white evangelical Christians who are going to impose their fundamentalist views on you and your children.

“The obvious reason for inflation is that the government printed a zillion amount of more money than it had. … If the federal government writes checks, they never bounce. So that is effectively creation of more dollars. … If the government could just issue massive amounts of money and deficits didn’t matter, then, well, why don’t we just make the deficit 100 times bigger? The answer is, you can’t because it will basically turn the dollar into something that is worthless.” —Elon Musk

For the Record

“The horrific massacre in Buffalo, New York, has created a debate about the ‘great replacement theory,’ the rancid theory adopted by white supremacists that Jewish people are conspiring to destroy the influence of white Americans by importing non-white immigrants. … Yet, there is an attempt to tar Republicans more broadly with the theory and somehow attribute responsibility for the atrocity in Buffalo to them on this basis. The argument is that the likes of Elise Stefanik, a Republican congresswoman from New York, have warned that the Democrat party views immigration as a way to change the electorate in their favor, and so are mainstreaming the hateful replacement ideology. This is a smear, and especially perverse since Republicans sounding the alarm about this Democratic view have been unquestionably correct. … But the left wants to create rules that define it as perfectly acceptable for Democrats to advocate high levels of immigration as a means of gaining political power, and out of bounds for Republicans to call them on it. … Yes, by all means, further shun and marginalize replacement theory, but don’t support high levels of immigration for partisan reasons and expect the other side not to notice.” —Rich Lowry

“In the alleged shooter’s own manifesto, he slanders Fox News as being run by Jews and part of the global replacement theory conspiracy. He never mentions Tucker Carlson. He also disowns the conservative movement, labeling it corporatism, and echoes the sentiments of the far Left when it comes to eco-fascism. But none of this is useful to a media that see this as an opportunity to regain the narrative on policing speech online after having their favorite toy in Twitter taken away from them.” —Stephen L. Miller

“My 4-year-old just FaceTimed to ask what I’m doing to ‘help the people in Buffalo’ and ‘why did the bad man do this?’ Absolutely gutting. This cannot be his normal. It’s time to BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS.” —Congressman Eric Swalwell

“White supremacy is a poison. It’s a poison … running through our body politic, and it’s been allowed to fester and grow right in front of our eyes. No more. I mean, no more. We need to say as clearly and force [sic] as we can that the ideology of white supremacy has no place in America.” —Joe Biden

“These hard-right MAGA Republicans argue that people of color and minority communities are somehow posing a threat — a threat — to the American way of life. And let’s be clear: It’s a message that has also found a special home in several right-wing outlets, and on one cable news channel in particular: Fox News. In a craven quest for viewers and ratings, organizations like Fox News have spent years perfecting the craft of stoking cultural grievance and political resentment that eerily mirrors the messages found in ‘replacement theory.’ … It is not enough for outlets like Fox News to simply condemn Saturday’s violence, and condemn the shooter’s racist views, and then return to their regularly scheduled programing. To have an impact in the fight against domestic violent extremism, Fox News and their hosts need to actually stop spreading dangerous ideas like ‘replacement theory’ on their shows.” —Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer

Theater of the Absurd

“I think it’s time to name names and point fingers. Tucker Carlson mentioned the ‘great replacement theory’ or some version of that more than 400 times on his show since 2016, according to The New York Times. Elise Stefanik bought ads on Facebook. And it’s not just them. It’s other hosts of Fox News. It’s other Republican leaders. And they need to be called out. And listen, if you are an advertiser advertising on that station, you are part of the problem. If you sit on the board and are trying to be a civilized person … you are part of the problem. If you’re a Republican donor tweeting about how bad you feel about [the Buffalo shooting] but you’re donating to people like Elise Stefanik, you are part of the problem. If you are a staffer working for them, you are part of the problem. If you are voting for them, you are part of the problem. I’ll tell you what great replacement theory should be: We should replace all these people peddling hate and making financial and political gains from spreading racism.” —”The View” co-host Ana Navarro (“Putting a target on Fox News and Carlson is simply the latest subtle push at censorship. In recent weeks, corporate media have been caterwauling at the idea of looser content moderation politics on social media, and you can bet that Elon Musk and his pending deal with Twitter will be tied to the Buffalo shooting next.” —Stephen L. Miller)

“The Republican Party has moved further to the right than Democrats have to the left. … That idealogical divide breaks down to the the Republican Party being an extremist party, and the Democratic Party actually … moving more to the center.” —”The View” cohost Sunny Hostin (“49 out of 50 Senate Democrats just voted to require states to allow abortion on demand up until the moment of birth. This notion that the Democrat party has ‘moved to the center’ completely ignores everything elected Democrats have done these last few years.” —Matt Whitlock)

“Parents unfamiliar with the existing networks of homeschooling run the danger of being drawn into Christian conservative networks and theocratic teaching.” —MSNBC columnist Anthea Butler in her op-ed, “How the conservative Christian right is hijacking homeschooling”

And Last…

“All race politics is bad, no matter what flavor it is. It’s poison. It subsumes the individual into the group. It dehumanizes people. It elevates appearance over initiative and decency, and all the other God-given qualities that make people unique yet morally equal to each other.” —Tucker Carlson

Get Ready to Be Muzzled: The Coming War on So-Called Hate Speech

“Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freedom of speech.”—Benjamin Franklin

Beware of those who want to monitor, muzzle, catalogue and censor speech.

Especially be on your guard when the reasons given for limiting your freedoms end up expanding the government’s powers.

In the wake of a mass shooting in Buffalo, NY, carried out by an 18-year-old gunman in military gear allegedly motivated by fears that the white race is in danger of being replaced, there have been renewed calls for social media monitoring, censorship of flagged content that could be construed as dangerous or hateful, and limitations on free speech activities, particularly online.

As expected, those who want safety at all costs will clamor for more gun control measures (if not at an outright ban on weapons for non-military, non-police personnel), widespread mental health screening of the general population and greater scrutiny of military veterans, more threat assessments and behavioral sensing warnings, more surveillance cameras with facial recognition capabilities, more “See Something, Say Something” programs aimed at turning Americans into snitches and spies, more metal detectors and whole-body imaging devices at soft targets, more roaming squads of militarized police empowered to do random bag searches, more fusion centers to centralize and disseminate information to law enforcement agencies, and more surveillance of what Americans say and do, where they go, what they buy and how they spend their time.

All of these measures play into the government’s hands.
