The Bible and its Story: The Resurrection of Christ

‎Jesus, the man, had died. Christ, the Messiah, could not die. The mortal had resumed His immortality; and the most glorious of all Christian teachings is that every mortal hath also, as Jesus had, an immortal soul. To impress this, to give us confidence beyond death, Jesus rose again from the dead. The thing was done in all men’s sight. The priests had taken their precautions. The Roman guards assigned to them watched by His tomb through the day and through the night of that solemn Saturday. They had examined the tomb itself and officially sealed the huge stone that covered it. Every human test was there to prevent imposture.

‎Then suddenly, very early on Sunday morning, the earth quaked, as it had quaked before on the Friday afternoon. There was a great light, more glorious than the coming dawn. An angel, sweeping down from Heaven, rolled away the heavy stone from the sepulchre. The guards were stricken with a mighty awe and fell senseless. And Jesus issuing quietly as ever, stood once more among men, coming now as the triumphant Victor who had conquered death.

The Bible and its Story: The Women Watch

Thus men had done what they could; and the body of Jesus rested in the earth. Women alone remained by it to mourn. Just who these women were or how many of them, we do not know, only that there were those “which came with him from Galilee.” Matthew tells us that two Marys were there, the Magdalene and another. Mark mentions Mary “of Joses.” Perhaps the mother Mary was among them also in that night and day of grief.

‎During Friday night their vigil began. On Saturday it was interrupted. Even now that Jesus was dead the priests dared not leave Him in peace. They recalled what His disciples in their terror and agony seem to have forgotten, that Jesus had predicted His Resurrection. Therefore on Friday the chief priests went before Pilate, “Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead; so the last error shall be worse than the first.”

‎The request was granted; and stern soldiers superseded the loving women as the guardians of Christ’s resting place.

The Bible and its Story: The Burial

“Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

‎“Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.” This was, indeed, the sepulchre of Joseph of Arimathæa himself, the senator who was supervising the burial. The tomb was, therefore, a substantial one, hewn out of the solid rock, with a huge slab ready for closing it.

‎Within this unused tomb was Jesus’ body laid hastily and without religious rites; for this was intended only as a temporary grave. The morrow, Saturday, was the Jewish Sabbath and also the feast of the “Parasceve,” so that work was forbidden and further handling of the body would have made the mourners all “unclean.” Hence the body was not embalmed or otherwise marred by preservative operations, as was the custom. Thus even in Jesus’ burial did the Jewish law and tradition intervene and bend their devious ways to His high purposes.

The Bible and its Story: The Removal From the Cross

Jesus was dead. Such friends as had not deserted Him desired that at least His body might have honorable burial. One of them, Joseph of Arimathæa, was a senator of the city, a man of wealth and importance. He had not dared announce openly his faith in Christ “for fear of the Jews.” But now he went to Pilate and asked permission to remove the Master’s body from the cross. Pilate, amazed to know that the sufferer was dead so soon, inquired of the sentries, and these, to make sure, pierced Jesus’ side with a spear. Both blood and water flowed forth, a sure sign that the man was dead; so that John testifies very solemnly of this evidence, “And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.”

‎Then Pilate granted the permission that the body should be taken down; and Joseph with the aid of friends lowered it from the cross. In this solemn task he was aided probably by some of the apostles, perhaps even by the mother of Jesus, and certainly by Nicodemus, for the Bible specially mentions the presence of Nicodemus, he who “at the first came to Jesus by night,” afraid, as Joseph had been, to acknowledge the Master fully.

The Bible and its Story: “It Is Finished”

The end was at hand. Jesus asked for drink. It was given Him by a soldier, who raised to Him a sponge of vinegar upon a spear. Jesus prayed aloud, “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.” Then His head sank upon His breast and murmuring, “It is finished” He expired.

‎There were many watching afar off, followers of Jesus from Galilee, men and women also, who saw the end, and saw also the terrors that accompanied it. An earthquake added horror to the darkness. The veil covering the Holy of Holies in the Temple was torn apart. Rocks were rent in twain; graves were thrown open; “and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,” and entered Jerusalem, where men saw them pass. As for the crowd who had mocked at the crucifixion, they fled, both priests and rabble beating their breasts in fear and crying out for mercy.

‎One solemn testimony of the awful impressiveness of that hour has been recorded for us in the words of the Roman commander who had been in charge of the execution. He had watched everything calmly, indifferently perhaps at first. Rome’s splendid discipline held him and his soldiers from flight when the rabble fled; but they also feared greatly at the darkness, and the centurion said solemnly, “Truly this was the Son of God.”

July 28 Morning Verse of The Day

12:51 but rather division At face value, this statement seems to contradict the angels’ announcement of peace at Jesus’ birth (see 2:14 and note). However, Jesus is not denying the reality of messianic peace; rather, He is affirming that His death and resurrection will force people to choose sides. Although the way of Jesus certainly leads to peace in God’s kingdom, not everyone decides to follow Him (compare 19:42).[1]

12:51 Part of Jesus’ mission was to create a division within humankind. Other texts of Luke speak of Jesus bringing peace (2:14; 7:50; 8:48; 10:5, 6; Acts 10:36; Eph. 2:13–17). He offers peace to those who respond to Him.[2]

12:51. Jesus continues to amplify His purpose. Ultimately the mission of the Messiah would eventuate in peace. However, the unbelief that characterized the nation would delay that reality.[3]

12:51 “ ‘Do not suppose that I came to grant peace on earth’ ” See the parallel in Matt. 10:34–39. Even the close family relationships in a Jewish home will experience division over Jesus. There is a priority commitment needed to follow Him! Believers form a new family, the family of God![4]

Luke 12:51. Do you suppose that I came to send peace on the earth? What Christ has now demanded from his disciples any one of them would reckon it an easy matter to give, if the whole world, with one consent, embraced the doctrine of the Gospel. But as a considerable part of the world not only opposes but fights keenly against it, we cannot confess Christ without encountering the resistance and hatred of many. Christ therefore warns his followers to prepare for battle, for they must necessarily fight for the testimony of truth. And here he meets two stumbling-blocks, which otherwise would greatly have distressed weak minds. The prophets everywhere promise that there will be peace and tranquillity under the reign of Christ. What then were his disciples entitled to expect but that, wherever they went, all would instantly be at peace? Now as Christ is called our peace, (Eph. 2:14,) and as the Gospel reconciles us to God, it follows, that he also establishes a brotherly harmony amongst us. The kindling of wars and contentions in the world where the Gospel is preached, does not seem to agree with the predictions of the prophets, and still less with the office of Christ, and with the nature of the Gospel.

But that peace which the prophets describe in lofty terms, is associated with faith, and has no existence but among the sincere worshippers of God, and in the consciences of the godly. To unbelievers it does not come, though it is offered to them; nay, they cannot endure to be reconciled to God: and the consequence is, that the message of peace excites in them a greater tumult than before. As Satan, who holds a kingly power over the reprobate, is furious against the name of Christ, as soon as the doctrine of the Gospel is proclaimed to them, their impiety, which formerly lay asleep, acquires fresh vigour. Thus Christ, who, properly speaking, is the author of peace, becomes the occasion of disturbances in consequence of the wickedness of men.

Let us hence learn how great is the depravity of corrupt nature, which not only soils a gift so inestimable, but changes it into a most destructive evil. Meanwhile, if tumults arise at the commencement of the reign of Christ, let us not be alarmed at it, as if it were strange or unusual: for he compares his Gospel to a sword, and says that it is διαμερισμὸς, separation. Some think that this is intended to describe the punishment which was inflicted on the despisers of the Gospel, by their rising in hostility against each other. But the context shows, that Christ is here exhorting his disciples to perseverance, though a good part of the world should be at variance with them, and though their voice should be like a war-trumpet to call innumerable enemies to arms.[5]

Ver. 51.—Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division. But the Master quickly leaves himself and his own sad forebodings. He puts by for a season his own holy impatience and continues his warnings. “I have been dwelling on the troublous times quickly coming on. Do not deceive yourselves, my disciples; the great change about to be inaugurated will only be carried out in war and by divisions in the individual house as in the nation. I bring not peace, but a sword, remember.” And then follows a curious picture of a home torn asunder by the conflict of thought which would spring up as the result of the cross and of the preaching of the cross.[6]

12:51 peace on earth … division. The angels spoke of the coming of peace on earth in 2:14 (and cf. 19:38), and Jesus’s disciples have been sent to proclaim peace (10:5–6); he himself wants to bring peace to Jerusalem (19:42). Compare also the summary of Jesus’s mission in Acts 10:36. This exclamation is therefore perhaps not so much a statement of Jesus’s real purpose, but rather a sad recognition that his message of peace will in fact prove to be one of division, as people take opposite sides in relation to him. This too was already predicted at his birth (2:34–35).[7]

The Bible and its Story: “Forsaken”

All things, as John tells us, were now accomplished; the Scriptures of old, the prophecies concerning Messiah, were all fulfilled. Only the consummation of the Great Sacrifice, the actual human death of the divine Son, remained to be completed. For more than three hours Jesus had hung upon His cross, from before noon till mid-afternoon; but the last of those hours was not such as the first. Gradually, imperceptibly perhaps, a darkness had closed round the earth. Was not the “light of the world” fading from it? Men who had mocked Him in the sunshine grew silent as this funereal blackness blotted out the day.

‎Every gasp of the sufferer must have been audible now in that strange hush. The tragedy was being mercifully hurried to an end. Some victims lived upon the cross for days; Jesus was dying in three hours. One awful cry of anguish was wrung from Him, “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?” A cry of human heartbreak; for was it not of heartbreak rather than of physical suffering that Jesus died? Of grief for that world of men whom He had so loved, so tended, and who had so basely deserted Him? Of what divine struggle that single outcry was the ending we can not know; perchance only in that last moment were the doors of mercy closed, and the Father finally refused the prayer of Jesus that all men might be saved.

Reward for the Righteous — VCY America

So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth. (Psalm 58:11)

God’s judgments in this life are not always clearly to be seen, for in many cases one event happeneth alike to all. This is the state of probation, not of punishment or reward. Yet at times God works terrible things in righteousness, and even the careless are compelled to own His hand.

Even in this life righteousness has that kind of reward which it prefers above all others, namely, the smile of God, which creates a quiet conscience. Sometimes other recompenses follow, for God will be in no man’s debt. But, at the same time, the chief reward of the righteous lies in the hereafter.

Meanwhile, on a large scale, we mark the presence of the great Ruler among the nations. He breaks in pieces oppressive thrones and punishes guilty peoples. No one can study the history of the rise and fall of empires without perceiving that there is a power which makes for righteousness and, in the end, brings iniquity before its bar and condemns it with unsparing justice. Sin shall not go unpunished, and goodness shall not remain unrewarded. The Judge of all the earth must do right. Therefore, let us fear before Him and no more dread the power of the wicked.

As hard as it seems keep believing!

So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.” Hebrews 10:35-36 (NLT)

God is not slack concerning His promises to you. He has not forgotten about you. The very same words I have used to encourage myself time and time again, I use today to encourage you. It is not easy trusting a God that you don’t see. It is not always easy trusting that He is concerned about what concerns you. But the truth of the matter is, we serve a God that will never renege on His promises.

Paul tells us in our scripture reference not to throw away our confident trust in the Lord. Confident trust is the belief that something will happen based on God’s character. Again, He does not falter on His promises. Our reliance then should be on His ability to bring what He promises to pass.

So right now, in this very moment, as hard as it seems to keep believing, I urge you not to throw away your fearless confidence. Instead, embrace the patient endurance that helps us to bear up under difficult circumstances without compromising. It is this endurance that prompts us not to give up when we are weary. We will reap the harvest that has been promised to us if we just hang in there. I challenge you today to stick it out and stick with God’s plan. Stay consistent, keep trusting, keep believing, and keep fighting until you see the promised completion.

Lord, I have failed you time and time again in this area. Help me today to continue along the path that you have laid out for me. Help me to stay true to my assignment even when my feelings get the best of me. Help me to keep the right heart attitude as I wait on you to bring your promises to fulfillment. Most of all, help me to continue trusting your heart towards me. In Jesus, name, Amen.

[The Lord says] “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”   Isaiah 41:10

Thought

Fear saps our will power and leaves us feeling depleted and hopeless. Yet very few of us have ever experienced a defeat so complete and bitter as the one God’s people faced when Isaiah shared this message of hope. The preservation of Israel through their horrors to the time of Jesus, the resurrection of Jesus from the dead when all appeared lost, the triumph of the Church through centuries of persecution and opposition are all powerful reminders that underneath us are the everlasting arms of a mighty and loving God who will ultimately bring us to share in his eternal victory.

Prayer

Almighty and Eternal Father, it is such sweet comfort to know that you are always there. Thank you for always being there and guaranteeing my victory! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Bible and its Story: The Divine Mother Sheltered

‎The public mission of Christ to the world, His teachings to mankind, closed with the divine promise to the penitent thief. The remainder of His recorded utterances upon the cross were personal, dealing with the human life of Jesus, the man. Somewhere during those hours of agony, we know not when, His anguished eyes rested upon a little group of women, drawn close as they might beneath His feet. Among them was His earthly mother, she who had “treasured in her heart” all the promises of His birth, and who had tended His secluded childhood, who had followed Him through all His public mission while crowds worshipped and priests assailed Him. Now indeed had a “sword” pierced her heart, as had been foretold.

‎Jesus, thinking doubtless of all this, looked down on her and upon John, His best loved disciple, who stood by her. For Himself He had no thought; but to her, planning for her protection through coming years of poverty, He said, “Woman, behold thy son!” and to John He gave command, “Behold thy mother!” The care of her thenceforth became the labor of John’s life.

Suggestions of Fraud Rattle Alzheimer’s Research Field
In the world of Alzheimer’s research, it’s a bombshell. A new investigation has raised allegations that landmark research conducted in 2006 was fabricated, reports NBC News. The journal Science is out with a report that casts serious doubt on the work of Sylvain Lesne of the University of Minnesota, whose research identified a particular brain protein as a main culprit in the disease. The journal’s six-month investigation is based on the work of neuroscientist Matthew Schrag of Vanderbilt University, who first suggested that Lesne doctored images used in his research into the protein known as “amyloid beta star 56.” The upshot is that Lesne allegedly altered the images in his work to exaggerate the protein’s significance. Mid-Day Snapshot · July 27, 2022

“From The Patriot Post (patriotpost.us)”

THE FOUNDATION

“We are either a United people, or we are not. If the former, let us, in all matters of general concern act as a nation, which have national objects to promote, and a national character to support. If we are not, let us no longer act a farce by pretending to it.” —George Washington (1785)

IN TODAY’S DIGEST

FEATURED ANALYSIS

What Should Trump Do Now?

The best opportunity for Demos to minimize the upcoming midterm election damage in the House and Senate is if Trump announces his 2024 candidacy.

Mark Alexander

Donald Trump returned to Washington, DC, for the first time since he skipped Joe Biden’s Inauguration Day ceremony and left town. He came to address the America First Policy InstituteMike Pence was also in DC addressing the Young America’s Foundation an hour before Trump’s remarks. As expected, they offered competing visions for the future — Pence focusing on the possibilities, and Trump focusing on the past.

In order of appearance…

According to Pence, there is a critical need to re-unify conservatives and to look forward, not obsess about what is behind us, as in the unfortunate 2020 election results. “Now some people may choose to focus on the past. But elections, elections are about the future. And I believe conservatives must focus on the future to win back America.” He noted that he “couldn’t be more proud of the record of the Trump-Pence administration.” Indeed, there were plenty of successes, the accounting of which Demos would like to obscure.

A few excerpts from his remarks: “I don’t know that our movement is that divided. I don’t know that the president and I differ on issues — we may differ on focus. … I truly do believe that elections are about the future. … American freedom is under attack. Big tech, big media, big government, even big business have locked arms to advance a pernicious woke agenda designed to control the American people and destroy the American dream. The ruling elites here in Washington and all across this country have never been more out of touch with the values of everyday Americans but more, never more intent on imposing their agenda on each and every one of us. Configuring the conservative movement to fulfill conservatism’s purpose and to save our nation from the left-wing tyranny, socialism and decline is critical.”

On the 2020 election, Pence said: “I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone. And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president.”

Pence hit back on the Demos’ cancerous assertion that our nation is besieged with “systemic racism” and what has now become “state-sanctioned racism,” insisting, “We need to purge our schools of critical race theory and restore patriotic education in every classroom in America.”

As for the upcoming midterms, Pence concluded: “When you see the aggressive liberalism of this administration and their allies in Congress, frankly 2022 may be the best chance we will ever have to build a lasting majority. … In 2022, the American people will decide whether their children and grandchildren will stand tall as citizens of the freest nation on earth, or whether they’ll be forced to live in the economic moral and spiritual decline with socialism.”

(You can view Pence’s full speech here.)

For his part, former President Trump rehashed his concerns about 2020 election fraud — which we covered in detail here. He rightly derided the “Russian collusion” delusion. He hit Nancy Pelosi’s histrionic so-called investigation into what she errantly brands an “Insurrection™,” now 18 months ago on January 6, 2021.

I am sure the Department of Justice timed its announcement of a criminal probe into Trump’s J6 actions to coincide with his return to DC.

On the election, in typical scorched-earth fashion, Trump attacked the most loyal members of his administration: “Mike Pence had a chance to be great. He had a chance to be, frankly, historic. But just like [former Attorney General] Bill Barr and the rest of these weak people, Mike — and I say it sadly because I like him — but Mike did not have the courage to act.”

On the completely debunked Russian collusion claims, he said: “A friend of mine said recently that I was the most persecuted person in the history of our country. I said he may very well be right.”

On Pelosi’s dog and pony show, he said: “Now we have the Jan. 6 ‘un-select’ committee of political hacks and thugs. These are the same people we’ve been dealing with for four years. We have the same people [who have investigated before], other than Cheney, who is the worst, and crying Adam Kinzinger. … It’s so unfair when you see what happened to BLM, when you see what happened to antifa, when you see what happened [in] all of the killings that took place all over the country. Then you see what they are doing to people that in some cases didn’t enter the building and are being tortured and handled so horribly. … Everything this corrupt establishment is doing to me is about preserving [their] power and control over the American people.”

He hit Biden’s intentional and reckless open-border policy: “Many of these people that are coming in will cause trouble for this country, the likes of which you have no idea, [including] terrorists sending people into our country that will cause problems for us for decades.”

And Trump called for law and order: “Under the Democrat rule, in Democrat-run cities, Democrat-run states, and a Democrat-run federal government, the criminals have been given free rein more than ever before. There’s never been a time like this. We need an all-out effort to defeat violent crime in America, and strongly defeat it, and be tough and be nasty and be mean if we have to. Our country is now a cesspool of crime. We have blood, death, and suffering on a scale once unthinkable because of the Democrat Party’s effort to destroy and dismantle law enforcement all throughout America.”

He went after the Demo police de-funders, saying: “We have to leave our police alone. Every time they do something, they’re afraid they’re going to be destroyed and that their pensions are going to be taken away. Let them do their job. Give them back the respect that they deserve.”

Finally, in a hint about running in 2024, Trump said this week: “[Democrats] really want to damage me so I can no longer go back to working for you. I don’t think that is going to happen.”

(You can view Trump’s full speech here.)

Of course, the Leftmedia talkingheads and scribes covered this as a “Trump vs. Pence” 2024 dustup, because Demos and their MSM publicists have nothing positive to run on ahead of the 2022 midterms. They certainly can’t run on the disastrous record of Joe Biden with his record-low job-approval polling.

What Demos do run on successfully is division and hate, as they demonstrated in the 2020 election. If they can bait Trump into running, especially if he announces ahead of the midterms, the Democrat Party’s key enemies of Liberty will have their most sought-after political holy grail.

The best opportunity for Demos to minimize the upcoming midterm election damage in the House and Senate is if Trump announces his 2024 candidacy, as he unfortunately is contemplating.

And the biggest piece of bait they are using is the J6 Committee charade.

So, what do I believe Trump should do now?

I believe he should spend all his energy rallying his grassroots supporters — and then undermine the Democrats’ 2024 prospects, which are unlikely to involve Joe Biden, by endorsing a younger presidential candidate who does not drag all the Trump baggage and division into the 2024 Republican primary. There is a great field of rising Republicans. At the moment, I favor Ron DeSantis, with any number of great prospects for VP.

China Probes the Fed and Our Nuclear Arsenal

The long-held belief that the Communist Chinese don’t pose a mortal threat to us is both delusional and dangerous.

Douglas Andrews

When it became clear that Joe Biden’s (ahem) 81 million votes would be enough to win the presidency and oust Donald Trump from the Oval Office, no one was happier than Xi Jinping and his merry band of Wuhan Flu-spreading, live-organ-harvesting, intellectual-property-thieving Chinese communists.

And let’s be clear: The ChiComs aren’t a strategic trading partner, or even a geopolitical rival. They’re an enemy of the United States and the world’s leading threat to our freedom-loving way of life. Unfortunately, our current commander-in-chief can’t seem to get this through his thick skull.

Donald Trump, on the other hand, was calling out the commies long before he became our 45th president. “We can’t continue to allow China to rape our country,” he said back on May 1, 2016.

Think about that. It took years of scholarly work and a thorough exploration of Ronald Reagan’s papers to put the lie to the Left’s dismissal of him as “an amiable dunce.” And here, in just 10 words uttered more than six years ago, we see unequivocally that Donald Trump understood then what Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats continue to deny to this day.

During his tenure, Trump did many excellent things. Sensible things. Conservative things. Strategically vital things. And if not for the corrupt triumvirate of Big Tech, Big Media, and the Deep State, he’d still be president, and gas would still be $2.57 a gallon, and store shelves would still be stocked, and our retirement plans would still be on track. And Communist China would still be in check.

If. If, if if.

Instead, though, we have a president whose corrupt ties to Red China have been painfully and exhaustively documented on these pages. And we have a ChiCom menace that’s never been more emboldened.

Coincidence?

We think not. Just now, in fact, we’re learning more about that Red Menace and what Senate Republicans are calling “a sustained effort by China, over more than a decade, to gain influence over the Federal Reserve and a failure by the Federal Reserve to combat this threat effectively.”

That’s right. China has been trying to infiltrate and surreptitiously influence the central bank of the United States. As The Wall Street Journal reports:

China tried to build a network of informants inside the Federal Reserve system, at one point threatening to imprison a Fed economist during a trip to Shanghai unless he agreed to provide nonpublic economic data, a congressional investigation found.

The investigation by Republican staff members of the Senate’s Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs found that Fed employees were offered contracts with Chinese talent-recruitment programs, which often include cash payments, and asked to provide information on the U.S. economy, interest-rate changes and policies, according to a report of the findings released Tuesday.

In the case of the economist, the report said, Chinese officials in 2019 detained and tried to coerce him to share data and information on U.S. government policies, including on tariffs while the U.S. and China were in the midst of a trade war.

Not surprisingly, mealy-mouthed Fed Chairman Jerome Powell leaped to China’s defense. “Because we understand that some actors aim to exploit any vulnerabilities, our processes, controls, and technology are robust and updated regularly. We respectfully reject any suggestions to the contrary,” he wrote in a letter to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s ranking member, Ohio Republican Rob Portman.

Why is it we have an image in our head of Chairman Powell stepping off a plane, waving a piece of paper above his head, and saying “We have peace for our time”?

As Portman rightly put it, “This investigation makes clear that China’s malign efforts at influence and information theft are not limited to science and technology fields — American economic and monetary policy is also being targeted by the Chinese government.”

It’d be plenty bad if this was the only troubling news about China to hit us in the face this week. But it isn’t. As CNN (of all news networks) reports: “Since at least 2017, federal officials have investigated Chinese land purchases near critical infrastructure, shut down a high-profile regional consulate believed by the US government to be a hotbed of Chinese spies and stonewalled what they saw as clear efforts to plant listening devices near sensitive military and government facilities.”

The report goes on to note that among the most alarming things the FBI uncovered was that this Chinese equipment was “capable of capturing and disrupting highly restricted Defense Department communications, including those used by US Strategic Command, which oversees the country’s nuclear weapons.”

As columnist Gary Bauer succinctly put it, Trump was right. And by now, anyone who doesn’t take seriously the threat from Communist China is a useful idiot.

President Biden: Looking at you.

Executive News Summary

Hutchinson’s texts decimate own J6 testimony, murder hornets no more, Ivy League rejects Lia Thomas, and more.

Thomas Gallatin & Jordan Candler

Top of the Fold

  • Cassidy Hutchinson’s texts decimate her own J6 testimony: With much fanfare, the House Democrats’ purely politically motivated January 6 Committee held a special public hearing on July 1 in which former White House top aide Cassidy Hutchinson alleged that Donald Trump demanded to go to the Capitol building during the infamous riot. Hutchinson painted herself as someone who was appalled by Trump’s comments and response to the Capitol riot. While aspects of her testimony almost immediately fell apart, Democrats and the mainstream media championed her as a truth-teller. Well, thanks to recently unearthed text messages, it now appears that Hutchinson was far from fearful and appalled by the J6 riot and in fact was still singing Trump’s praises months afterwards. “I would rather shoot myself dead into the Potomac than see marine one flying around this city without 45 again,” she wrote in a message nearly three months after the Capitol riot. In another text, Hutchinson describes a brief sidewalk exchange with a stranger over a sweatshirt she was wearing that was emblazoned with the number “45.” According to her text, the individual asked if the number was a reference to Trump, to which she responds “yes” and then adds, “I’m an insurrectionist.” So what led to Hutchinson’s about-face? Evidently, it was Trump’s former staffer Alyssa Farah who convinced Hutchinson to work with anti-Trump Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY). After this latest revelation, Hutchinson has proven herself to be a liar and her testimony to be entirely unreliable.
  • Murder hornets no more: Popular monikers for a recent invasive species that hails from Asia have been declared to be racist and therefore will no longer be used by the Entomological Society of America and the Entomological Society of Canada. The offending names for the insect are the “murder hornet” and the less common “Asian giant hornet.” In a demonstration of its woke bonafides, the ESA ridiculously asserted, “Amid a rise in hate crimes and discrimination against people of Asian descent, usage of ‘Asian’ in the name of a pest insect can unintentionally bolster anti-Asian sentiment.” Using this logic, the bald-faced hornet must bolster anti-bald-person sentiments. ESA President Jessica Ware further explained, “I don’t want my Asian American or Pacific Islander colleagues, friends and family to have any negative connotations with invasive or pest species that might be used against them in a negative way.” In 2021, the ESA updated its naming guide to ban names associated with geopolitical regions or ethnic groups. The ESA’s newly approved name for the murder hornet is the “northern giant hornet.”
  • Ivy League rejects Lia Thomas for NCAA “Woman of the Year” award: “Transgender” swimmer Lia Thomas, a male who self-identifies as a woman, was nominated by the University of Pennsylvania for the NCAA’s annual “Woman of the Year” award earlier this month. The award is designated for “female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in their community, in athletics and in academics throughout their college careers.” However, the other Ivy League schools rejected Thomas’s nomination and instead chose 2019 national fencing champion and three-time all-American Sylvie Binder of Columbia University. Binder also sports an impressive academic résumé with a GPA of 3.91. Of course, what should have been the most obvious disqualification for Thomas to have even been nominated for the “Woman of the Year” award is the fact that he is not a woman. Indeed, back in February, 16 of his female teammates sent a letter to the NCAA highlighting that, “biologically, Lia holds an unfair advantage over competition in the women’s category, as evidenced by her [sic] rankings that have bounced from #462 as a male to #1 as a female.” Thankfully, this year at least, an actual woman will represent the Ivy League for the NCAA’s “Woman of the Year” award.
  • What to do about falling Army recruitment: The U.S. military has failed to meet its recruitment goals in 2022, with the Army falling the furthest behind. The U.S. Army has currently met just 40% of its recruitment goals. As has been recently noted, much of this slide in recruitment has to do with the Biden administration’s injection of woke ideology into our military. So what can be done to reverse this trend? Retired Army Lieutenant General Thomas W. Spoehr and The Heritage Foundation’s Grace Hermanson have several suggestions, the first of which is to expand JROTC programs. JROTC is responsible for 49% of new recruits who have no family connection with the military. The military also needs to support after-school programs to help ensure greater health eligibility of young Americans. Furthermore, Americans must foster a culture that values and encourages military service, which can only come about by cultivating a greater appreciation of and love for America. The more young people believe in and love their country, the more willing they will be to step up and defend her.

Metro Dems Beg Biden for Mass Migrant Help

“Sanctuary city” Democrat leaders are now reaping the fruits of Biden’s open-border policy.

Thomas Gallatin

In a delicious example of leftist elites suddenly being bitten by their own policies, Democrat leaders from self-proclaimed “sanctuary cities” are now calling on Joe Biden to help mitigate the massive numbers of illegal aliens that have poured into their cities.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently called on the Biden administration to assist with the flow of illegals, stating: “We do need help from the federal government, through FEMA, to assist us. This city was already dealing with a shelter population, and we’re going to need help to deal with this unprecedented surge.”

Adams pointed to some 2,800 migrants who arrived in the Big Apple and were taking up space and overcrowding in the city’s homeless shelters.

Boo hoo.

Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser also lamented the influx of brown-skinned tourists. However, rather than blame Biden for creating the problem thanks to his open-border policies, Bowser laid the blame on southern border states for allegedly having “tricked” these illegals into taking buses up to DC.

Boo hoo hoo.

Written off by Democrat politicians and Leftmedia talkingheads as little more than a publicity stunt, Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s migrant busing drive is now three months old and has deposited thousands of illegal aliens in the nation’s capital. It seems to be working, too, by forcing these Democrat-run sanctuary cites to live with the problems their ill-reasoned policies have created.

Ironically, it’s not primarily Abbott’s busing program that’s to blame but the Biden administration itself. The Department of Homeland Security has flown, often in the dead of night, tens of thousands of migrants all across the country.

While Adams and Bowser may complain, they’ll likely be met with the same deaf ears that others — including Texas Democrat Congressman Henry Cuellar — have received from Team Biden. Cuellar has repeatedly called on the administration to secure the border and tackle the problem, but to no avail. Or as Eagle Pass, Texas, Mayor Rolando Salinas Jr. observed, “As a lifelong Democrat, I have to say it’s so disappointing to not get support from this administration.”

It now appears that these Democrat-run sanctuary cities are beginning to reap what they’ve sown. And that’s a good thing. Unfortunately, though, all Americans will eventually have to pay for this administration’s blatantly immoral border policies.

Trudeau’s Latest Despotic Dictate, This Time Against Farmers

The world’s climate zealots are refusing to trust the experts or learn from the catastrophic mistakes of others.

Emmy Griffin

The Netherlands has been in the throes of a pitched battle between the government and its farmers. The government there declared that it wanted to reduce nitrogen oxide and ammonia, which come from the waste of livestock. This decision was based on climate dogma and not on what is actually practical for the farmers and the Netherlands as a whole.

The farmers’ first salvo was on June 22, when 40,000 of them clogged the roadways to form a protest convoy. Then the Dutch farmers took to their tractors and trucks and parked them outside supermarkets and other stores that sell their hard-earned wares as a protest against the Netherlands’ new rules limiting the aforementioned pollutants, nitrogen oxide and ammonia. The protests are still ongoing, as farmers try to bring the idealists back to reality before they shoot the country’s considerable agriculture economy in the foot.

Sadly, Canada and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have decided to take the same tack against Canadian farmers. In a meeting with the heads of the Western provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan, Trudeau announced that he was putting a cap on how much fertilizer farmers were allowed to use.

It’s not surprising that Trudeau would flex his governmental muscles to seek to control something he has no idea about. Previously, he picked on the Canadian truckers for protesting his onerous and anti-scientific COVID mandates. Now he’s singling out his nation’s farmers.

It’s a dangerous proposition to distrust those who produce the food we eat. Many of them have been doing this their whole lives; some families have been farming for generations. They know what works and what doesn’t.

In its utopian arrogance, the Canadian government believes that the business of farming just hasn’t been done right. Its attitude is that these farmers can either acquiesce and adapt or watch their livelihoods die.

The Alberta-Saskatchewan press release voiced the devastation that this dictate has imposed on their people: “Provinces pushed the federal government to discuss this important topic, but were disappointed to learn that the target is already set. The commitment to future consultations [is] only to determine how to meet the target that Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Bibeau have already unilaterally imposed on this industry, not to consult on what is achievable or attainable.”

It really is crazy, the actions the Netherlands and Canada are taking, especially considering what has happened in Sri Lanka and Germany. They are the poster children for central planning, and for the disastrous mandating of green practices without sufficient adaptations to scaffold what they were seeking to replace.

But this is hardly surprising. After all, the leaders of these countries have all been heavily influenced by the World Economic Forum. This gathering is led by economist (or Bond villain) Klaus Schwab, who has for years been pushing the ideology of an economic “Great Reset.” Like a spider, Schwab’s web of influence is global. Leaders and celebrities of the world, he claims, should be the ones to guide the course of the planet. “The future is being built by us” is the precise phrase that Schwab uttered at the most recent Davos conference.

In fact, plenty of the fruits of the poisonous tree are linked to this elitist gathering. As our Douglas Andrews recently observed, “World leaders … keep using terms like ‘sustainability’ and ‘saving the planet’ and ‘Green New Deal’ and ‘Build Back Better.’ Even the term ‘social justice’ is tethered to this movement.” Suffice it to say that this is not a group that has the world’s best interests at heart. And yet its influence is pervading the conversations globally and failing spectacularly.

We will wait with bated breath to see what the Canadian farmers do, while hoping and praying that sanity will be restored before the Canadians are faced with Sri Lanka-type devastation.

Is the Chinese Bubble About to Burst?

There’s no question that the wealth-creation machine of the 2010s is in need of repair.

Michael Swartz

In years past, the one thing the Chinese experiment in foreign-assisted totalitarian-style capitalism could count on was a constantly growing economy. Creating goods for export around the world was enough of a boost to the system that it kept the masses from starving and eventually revolting. It also made a lot of insiders wealthy, and they were the ones who created the demand for housing that we’re going to discuss today.

According to The Wall Street Journal, frustrated Chinese homebuyers, upset because the dwellings for which they took out mortgages are months beyond their promised completion date, are threatening to withhold payment and place the lenders on the hook for a sum estimated at between $150 billion and $370 billion. “We’ve seen an increasing amount of frustration from Chinese citizens who have sunk their life savings into China’s real estate market, primarily viewing it as an investment vehicle or a safe investment, and now many of them are left unable to move into their homes,” said Craig Singleton, a fellow at the nonpartisan Foundation for Defense of Democracies, to Fox News.

It’s not a large piece of the Chinese mortgage pie, but it’s enough to be noticeable and might be cause for the Xi regime to demand action. “If unpaid mortgages accelerate, external intervention from Beijing will be necessary, quickly,” said Rhodium Group analyst Allen Feng. “Without it, more developers will default on loans, bonds, and obligations to contractors and homebuyers, and construction will slow further, forcing more people to stop paying their mortgages.” Shades of our own housing bubble from 2007.

Mortgage defaults may not be all that’s wrong with China, but they can be a significant indicator of trouble. Battered by a zero-tolerance approach to COVID that’s led to shutdowns of major industrial centers and a sluggish economic recovery in other parts of the world, experts in that field disagree on whether the Chinese economy is “on the mend, but very weak” or still in a “rapid economic slowdown.” Reliable numbers are hard to come by from China — imagine that — but there’s no question that the wealth-creation machine of the 2010s is in need of repair. As National Review’s Jim Geraghty warns, “Maybe the whole [Chinese economy] is a house of cards.”

When economic tough times come, though, the refuge of the scoundrel is often a war, as it has the advantages of necessitating an increase in production and creating a decrease in mouths to feed, both now and in never-born future generations. And while an invasion of Taiwan wouldn’t be expected to be a high-casualty event, the Russian invasion of Ukraine was supposed to be a walk in the park, too. Author and former Pentagon strategist Elbridge Colby theorized in a Twitter thread that China has a “compelling case for action” regarding Taiwan, while CIA Director William Burns told an audience at the Aspen Security Forum, “I think the risks become higher, it seems to us, the further into this decade you get.” He added, “The Chinese leadership is trying to study the lessons of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and what it tells them.”

With the Chinese economy fraying at the seams, a lack of American leadership through at least 2024, and Xi Jinping hoping to remain in power for another term in office, would-be Chinese homeowners who withhold mortgage payments may ultimately become cannon fodder for an island invasion.

‘The View’ apologizes to Turning Point USA for neo-Nazi smear after #SueTheView threat, but the group is not satisfied — Conservative Review

ABC show “The View” issued a formal correction and apology to Turning Point USA on Wednesday after the show’s panelists falsely claimed that the conservative group “invited” and “embraced” neo-Nazis at its Student Action Summit in Florida last weekend.

TPUSA had threatened to sue “The View” for defamation in a scathing cease-and-desist letter demanding that the show retract false statements made by the co-hosts on Monday claiming that neo-Nazi demonstrators were welcomed by the organization, when in fact they were there in opposition to the group’s event and barred from entry.

The letter successfully extracted an apology and correction from “The View.”

“On Monday we talked about the fact that there were openly neo-Nazi demonstrators outside the Florida Student Action Summit of the Turning Point USA group. We want to make clear that these demonstrators were gathered outside the event and that they were not invited or endorsed by Turning Point USA,” Sara Haines said during Wednesday’s live broadcast.

“A Turning Point USA spokesman said the group ‘100 percent condemns those ideologies’ and said ‘Turning Point USA security tried to remove the neo-Nazis from the area but could not because they were on public property,'” Haines continued. “Also, Turning Point USA wanted us to clarify that this was a Turning Point USA Summit, and not a Republican Party event. So, we apologize for anything we said that may have been unclear on these points.”

On Monday’s show, the ladies of “The View” criticized TPUSA’s Student Action Summit and made derogatory comments about the college campus activist organization, comparing the event’s production to “the WWE” and alleging that the group was officially linked to the Republican Party. Joy Behar brought up that neo-Nazi protesters were outside the event.

“Neo-Nazis were out there in the front of the conference with anti-Semitic slurs and, you know, the Nazi swastika and a picture of a so-called Jewish person with exaggerated features, just like [Joseph] Goebbels did during the Third Reich. It’s the same thing, right out of that same playbook,” Behar said.

She also criticized Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for speaking at Turning Point USA’s event without mentioning or condemning the neo-Nazi protesters.

Later in the program, Haines read from a legal disclaimer in which TPUSA condemned the neo-Nazis and said “they have nothing to do with our organization.”

“But you let them in,” Whoopi Goldberg said, without evidence to support her claim. “You let them in and you knew what they were. So you are complicit.”

After commercial break, Goldberg walked back her statements, but maintained that TPUSA had “embraced” the hate group.

“They were outside protesters. My point was more metaphorical. You embraced them at your thing. I felt,” Goldberg said. Haines added that the neo-Nazis “felt invited” by TPUSA.

These false claims drew a ferocious response from Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk, who said Tuesday he was discussing legal action with Turning Point’s lawyers.

“You cannot smear minors as Nazis and get away with it. It impacts them for the rest of their life,” Kirk tweeted with #SueTheView, which soon trended on Twitter.

TPUSA then sent a cease-and-desist letter to “The View,” which was first reported by Fox News.

“The false statements of fact intentionally made during The View’s July 25th segment were unquestionably harmful to TPUSA’s reputation and brought the organization and its student affiliates into disrepute with the public, potential donors, and current and future business partners, posing a significant financial loss to the organization,” the letter said. It was addressed to ABC News New York bureau chief Joshua Hoyos and ABC assistant chief counsel Ian Rosenberg.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for TPUSA told Fox News the group is not satisfied with the correction made by Haines.

“Whoopi is the one who said it. She should be the one to offer the apology,” the spokesperson said.

Goldberg remained silent during Haines’ correction.

UPDATE: ‘The View’ Apologizes To Turning Point USA Over Defamatory Statements After #SUETHEVIEW Trends Nationwide On Twitter (VIDEO) — The Gateway Pundit

The View has issued an apology to the Turning Point USA organization after lying about the group and claiming they embraced neo-nazis on live television.

Last weekend, alleged “neo-nazi” protestors attempted to disrupt the 2022 Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Tampa, Florida but were confronted and removed from the event.

The rabid leftist hosts of the view used this as an opportunity to smear the conservative nonprofit organization, claiming that the “neo-nazis” were let into the event and “embraced” by Turning Point.

The Gateway Pundit reported yesterday that #SueTheView was trending on Twitter after Turning Point USA sent cease and desist letters to ABC News and demanded an apology.

Charlie Kirk pointed out that Whoopi Goldberg, the main accuser, stayed silent throughout the entire apology.

Turning Point USA shared the clip on Twitter, commenting,

UPDATE: The View has issued yet another formal correction to TPUSA and its students LIVE on air. The apology was issued by Sara Haines.

Whoopi remained silent and has not retracted her comments that TPUSA “metaphorically” embraced “Nazis.”

Co-host Sara Haines delivered the following statement live on the air.

Haines: So on Monday, we talked about the fact that there were openly neo-Nazi demonstrators outside the Florida Student Action summit of the Turning Point USA group. We want to make clear that these demonstrators were gathered outside the event and that they were not invited or endorsed by Turning Point USA. A Turning Point USA spokesman said the group ‘100% condemns those ideologies,’ and said ‘Turning Point USA security tried to remove the Neo-Nazis from the area but could not because they were on public property.’ Also, Turning Point USA wanted to clarify, wanted us to clarify that this was a Turning Point USA summit and not a Republican party event. So we apologize for anything we said that may have been unclear on these points.

The Post Millenial reported,Human Events Daily host and Turning Point USA contributor Jack Posobiec called “The View’s” actions “textbook” defamation.“I was standing outside when this incident happened,” he added. “TPUSA attendees confronted the agitators.”

This “apology” does not undo the damage of falsely labeling young conservative activists neo-Nazis.
