Fake News and Christian Discernment
Charles Spurgeon once rightly said, “Discernment is not a matter of simply telling the difference between right and wrong; rather it is telling the difference between right and almost right.” Today, Pastor Randy White joins us to discuss discernment, fake news, and having the correct biblical perspective on our times and how to prepare for the challenging days our nation and church face.

The Most Important Nation in History
God has brought the nation of Israel back to center stage for the final years of this world before the Lord returns in judgment. Of all the policy decisions President Trump is faced with, none may be more important than how he works with and supports Israel. Joining us to discuss the critical relationship between the U.S. and Israel is Jan Markell of Olive Tree Views.

Lies, Hypocrisy and Cover-ups from the Left
There can be little doubt that the secular media in our nation on the whole is committed to the Socialist progressive movement, and the days of unbiased reporting of news is a thing of the past. Today we discuss the death of media objectivity; has the final nail been hammered in its coffin?

This morning, Mike and Dave discuss a report on how “climate change” data has been manipulated to advance radical environmentalism, and take a look at the hypocrisy of Senate Democrats in the handling of President Trump’s cabinet nominations. We will also look at the increasing pressure progressives are putting on American businesses to get in line with their agenda.

Plus, is media objectivity dead? Sadly, truth and facts are no longer priorities when political ideology reigns supreme.

A Lost Generation?
Certainly this generation faces enormous challenges as public education and media have succeeded at indoctrinating many of them into a secular humanist world view. And this generation of younger people will one day lead our nation and our churches; some already are! So how can we help them turn (back) to God instead of away from Him? Religion and Culture expert, Dr. Alex McFarland joins us today to discuss this and other concerns.

The World Will Hate You, But…
Jesus warned His disciples in John 15 that because the world hated Him, it would also hate all those who believe in and follow Him as well. The times in which we live certainly bear out the truth of Jesus’ warning. But if we are not speaking God’s truth and living out the Bible, people may not know we are Christians.

Led by atheists, LBGTQ activists, a corrupt humanist court system, and a corrupt media, our nation is seeing a steady diet of lawsuits against the free speech of Christian individuals and organizations. Religious freedoms are being redefined.

This morning we cover some recent stories involving the godless push to eradicate biblical Christian morality in America, and we analyze some of the evidence of growing hatred and discrimination against Christians. Our special guest today is Brad Dacus, president of The Pacific Justice Institute.

Technology, the Church, World Events & Prophecy
It’s vital for true believers to have a solid, biblical Christian worldview and do our best to see people and events with an eternal perspective. Though we were not given a spirit of fear, it’s easy to become anxious or overwhelmed if we focus on this world rather than the Word.

Saul Alinsky Would Be Proud

We discuss the continuing meltdown of the Left, their reaction to Donald Trump’s election, his early policies, and Supreme Court Justice nominee, Neil Gorsuch. Also, last night, hate filled riots broke out at California Berkeley, making Saul Alinsky, Barack Obama, Jim Wallis, the liberal media, and Hillary Clinton (to name a few) proud. Controversy Within The Southern Baptist Convention
Today, we cover a controversy within The Southern Baptist Convention over the building of a Muslim mosque in New Jersey. A city has not approved the building of this mosque, but the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board has filed an amicus brief with the court supporting a lawsuit against the city on behalf of Muslims. One pastor has resigned from the Mission Board citing a contradiction between the Board’s action and its mission of spreading the gospel.

In our first segment, we check in with Tina Griffin of Counter Culture Mom. Tina will point out some good role models for young people to look up to, and we’ll also talk about the need for Christians to make a statement to Hollywood by boycotting much of what they offer at the box office.

Nancy Pelosi: We’re Doing God’s Work
There are many professing Christians who selectively reference the Bible to justify their personal beliefs and worldview; yet they completely ignore the Bible when it contradicts other personal beliefs. This is one form of hypocrisy creeping into the professing church that needs to be addressed.

Messing with Our Minds

The Bible warns of a coming one world government and religion so deceptive that if possible, even the elect would be deceived. There are many speculations on what this one world religion will look like. Mike LeMay has written a new book The Death of Christian Thought where he identifies Humanism, self-worship, as this coming one world religion. He also explains that we are being slowly indoctrinated into it every day. In Matthew 7, Jesus warns that many who think they will be going to heaven will instead be cast into eternal separation from God. One reason Mike wrote his book is to address professing Christians to heed Jesus’ words.

Ha also asks some challenging questions about how culture is shaping our thoughts and worldview:

How are we being indoctrinated and who is behind this devious plot?

How can we reject Humanism and stay faithful to God and His Word in these increasingly dangerous times?

Why are a growing number of church fellowships ineffective in sharing the gospel and equipping believers for the work of His kingdom?

And why are an increasing number of Christian couples not enjoying the fruit of strong, healthy marriages such as f love, joy , good communication, mutual submission and peace? These are a few of the questions Mike tackles in his book and we discuss during today’s program.

President Donald Trump: Set Up to Fail?

Today, Donald J. Trump is sworn in as the next President of the United States. More than 70 Democratic congressmen are boycotting the inauguration; thousands of progressives are demonstrating in Washington; and the mainstream press is fueling the delusion that he is not qualified and only won the election because of “Russian interference.”

Many conservatives are confident Trump will turn things around quickly; and some Christian leaders are insisting that “God weighed in” leading to Trump’s election. Never before has a President inherited such a mess with such fervent opposition on the one side, and unbridled optimism and expectations on the other side. Is President Trump set up to fail? We’ll explore that possibility this morning.

In our first segment we are joined by Daniel Weiss of Brushfires Foundation, an organization calling on and equipping Christian churches to educate the public on the crucial biblical and social issues of our times such as marriage, pornography, sex-trafficking, abortion and euthanasia.

Distinguishing Between Biblical Vs Man-Made Doctrine

The early church after the resurrection of Christ faced many threats.  Externally these threats came from both Roman and Jewish leaders, who thought Christianity was a threat to each of their power bases. Internally the church grappled with another threat.  There were two different sets of beliefs that threatened to undermine the gospel message of […]

The Gravest Sins of the Pharisees

Jesus rebuked the teachers of His time for several reasons; one was their hypocrisy and another was that they often taught their own traditions instead of teaching doctrines from Scripture. They added things on to God’s law so frequently that Jesus often mad a point of asking them, “Have you not read…?”

Adding to God’s Word, or replacing biblical doctrine with human doctrine is dangerous. This can and does lead many astray. In our second segment today, we discuss this important issue in Mike LeMay’s biblical teaching commentary.

At the top of today’s program, David Fiorazo takes us through our weekly “Media Watch” segment, exposing double standards and helping us uncover the deception and hidden agenda in today’s secular news.

Growing Hatred of Biblical Christianity

Jesus warned His followers to expect scorn, hatred, discrimination and mockery at the hands of a world that hated Him and His message of confession, repentance and reconciliation to God through through faith in Him as the Savior. Certainly, believers in nations such as China, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia face some of the worst of the backlash of hatred against Jesus while here in the Western world we live relatively unscathed – as of now.

But has this been gradually changing right under our noses, and what can we expect in the coming years?

Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs gives us an update on the growing persecution of Christians around the world, how we can pray, and how we can support them.

Churches Conforming to the World

While there are many Christian Churches in America standing firmly on and teaching the full counsel of God’s Word, many are also conforming to the ways of this world. In their misguided zeal for “church growth” some churches look more like carnivals than houses of worship–literally. This morning we look at what a couple of mega churches in our nation are up to on the “entertainment front”.

In our first segment today, we check in with Doug Wakefield of Best Minds, Inc. to look at world economic trends in light of the Bible’s teaching on money. Also, why suddenly, after claiming to do so much good for poor people has the Clinton Foundation decided to close its doors?

If You Build it, They Might Come

We would all love to see a growth in the number of strong Christian churches in America. Over the past fifteen years there has been a fervent effort to plant more churches, but the statistics show that pretty much for every new church that opens, another closes its doors. Is it time we rethink our strategy on Church planting? Pastor Randy White joins us to discuss the Church Plant Movement and its current shortcomings.

We are also joined by Dr. Cal Beisner of The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation to discuss President Trump’s nominee to head up the EPA. Is there reasonable common ground that bible-believing Christians can find with environmentalists?

New SRN Podcast: Biblical Principles That Cut Through Ecumenical New Age Christianity

Here is a new Podcast that will help clarify why Bible believing Christians should have nothing to do with the Contemplative “Centering Prayer” Movement. This movement is undermining Christian churches, Universities and Bible Colleges everywhere. Fr. Thomas Keating, the Pioneer of this modern-day ecumenical, mystical, New Age/New Gospel/New Spirituality movement declares the following – which he has arrived at through his “centering-prayer” method:

• “If you don’t want to become God, you’ve missed the boat. If you’re too humble to think you can become God, if you think you are not worthy, that is a false humility, because it’s not yours to decide.” – Fr. Thomas Keating, Segment 17 of 21, Integral Contemplative Christianity

Mr. Keating’s teaching is not Christian at all. Rather, it is New Age “Cultism.” Contrary to Mr. Keating, the God of the Bible says:

• “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.” – Isaiah 45:5-6

• “Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.” – Isaiah 43:10-11

Please share this Podcast (and others) with your family and friends. There is no reason why Christians need to be influenced by people who twist Scripture beyond all recognition, and who think that they are, or can become “God. This is the LIE of Satan packaged as “Luciferian Christianity.”

• “And the serpent [Lucifer/Satan] said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:4-5

• “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

SUFTT Podcast: The lost art of discernment

Discern fork in the road

Many people ask us, “why do you need to warn people about these false teachers? What if you just focused on what you are for, and just on Jesus?” But Jesus told us to discern, and the Bible also says we need to be aware of the schemes of the enemy.

Today we’re talking about discernment, and why it has disappeared from modern teachings in the visible church. Where does lack of discernment lead?  Because we didn’t warn our youth ministries a decade ago about the teachings  of Pastor Rob Bell’s Nooma videos and his books, he departed biblical Christianity and took a whole bunch of young people with him – and now he will have a whole new way to lead his followers into the very Hell he denies. The Rob Bell Show is debuting on Oprah Winfrey’s television network in less than three weeks.

Can we prevent the yeast of false teachers and celebrity authors from infecting the church?  Yes, if pastors teach their sheep how to discern between right and almost right.

Pastor Randy White from Randy White Ministries in Katy, Texas, wrote an interesting article titled, Why Discernment Has Disappeared, and he is here to talk with us about how he equips his sheep.

New SRN Podcast: Characteristics of Cults and Cultic Influences

Four patterns found in CULTS and CUTLIC movements that can shipwreck your Christian faith and destroy you and your family!

Hello,

I was recently informed that more people have left a church that we used to attend in California, years ago. Many other families have also left that same church, and for the same reasons that we and did. For years to come the question will resonate in minds of many of these people, “How in the world could a once well respected church get so far off the track, so fast?”

Well, I warned the leaders of that church (and movement) numerous times about the dangers of imbalanced leadership and the corrupting influences of the Emerging Church and Contemplative Spirituality movements, and the so-called leaders of these movements that are full-blown false teachers! Few to none of the leaders listened to me; some just mocked! Now, years later, that church is infected with spiritual gangrene and hordes of people are flocking to it. Through the years, numerous people that challenged the leadership there saw the same results and were confrointed wiht the same “dynamic.” (Google search, “Diaprax”)

What is deeply saddening about church situations like this is that if leaders would simply listen and take note of the consistent problems stemming from the same root source, problems could be effectively dealt with and many churches would be much safer places to be. Unfortunately, if things continue on the way they have been now for years, at this church and others, blatant false teachers will eventually rise up from within the ranks. That’s how it works! Bad seeds can grow…they just need a little more time to grow and bare fruit.

What does the Scripture say? (emphasis added):

• “Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.” (Acts 20:26-31)

• “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” (Romans 16:17-18)

In light of these things, if you or your family members need clarification about what type of dynamics occur in Cults, Cult-like movements, and theologically and sociologically abusive Christian churches, this 2008 discernment seminar audio may be of help to you.

PODCAST DESCRIPTION:

• This audio message is a fast-paced overview of how Cults and Cult-like movements operate. They ADD to the Word of God, SUBTRACT from the Deity of Jesus Christ, MULTIPLY the requirements for salvation, and DIVIDE a followers loyalty to God. Recorded live at a biblical discernment seminar on the Central Coast of California, the quoted material from Chris’s PowerPoint presentation comes from numerous sources, including the book Kingdom of the Cults (Dr. Walter Martin), a profile titled Patterns in the Cults (R. Branch, 1994), and more.

LOVE, FORGIVENESS and BEING WISE AS SERPENTS AND INNOCENT AS DOVES

Although spiritual hurts and hurdles come and go in all of our lives, God commands us Christians to “love one another” (Jn 13:34-35; 1 Jn 4:7) and to “forgive one another” (Eph 4:32; Col 3:13). Furthermore, Jesus directly commanded His disciples, “Let no one deceive you by any means” (Mt 24:4 Mk 13:5). He also warned His disciples about spiritual deception, false prophets, and counterfeit (imitation; false) believers (Mt 7:15-29).

May each one of us strike the balance in our Christian lives and lifestyles, not judging others’ hearts and motives (Mt. 7:1-5), yet all the while being “wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Jesus said, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Mt 10:16)

May the Lord bless you according to His goodness and grace!
Sincerely in Christ,
Chris Lawson

Podcast: 14 Traits Found in Toxic Leaders – Rainer on Leadership #079

Podcast Episode #079

Unfortunately not all leaders of churches or Christian ministries act in the most Christ-like of ways. Some of these leaders, despite the Christian mission of the group they lead, create extremely toxic environments. Their leadership then hinders the growth of the church or ministry, and, if left uncorrected, often runs it into the ground. So this week on the podcast, we discuss the traits found in these leaders and what to do if you are one or work for one.

Some highlights from the episode:

  • There is a dark side to Christian leadership, and we should address these issues in the open.
  • As Christian leaders, we should exemplify the fruit of the Spirit.
  • The level of accountability in Christian leadership should be higher than that of secular leaders.
  • Toxic leaders get their joy by putting others down.
  • Toxic leaders rarely try to develop people. They use them up and cast them aside.
  • The more clear you are in your communication, the more you reveal who you really are.

The 14 traits we cover are:

  1. They rarely demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit.
  2. They seek a minimalist structure of accountability.
  3. They expect behavior of others they don’t expect of themselves.
  4. They see almost everyone else as inferior to themselves.
  5. They show favoritism.
  6. They have frequent anger outbursts.
  7. They say one thing to some people, but different things to others.
  8. They seek to dismiss or marginalize people before they attempt to develop them.
  9. They are manipulative.
  10. They lack transparency.
  11. They do not allow for pushback or disagreement.
  12. They surround themselves with sycophants.
  13. They communicate poorly.
  14. They are self-absorbed.

Facebook, Twitter, our brains and our witness—SUFTT Podcast

One of the things we are talking about today is technology and how it has connected us – especially through social media. We know that as Christians, channels like Facebook and Twitter have greatly increased the ability to witness to people for Christ, and to pass along important information on false teachings. But there is an ugly side to technology and social media: What is it doing to our brains? Are there side effects? …
