I appreciate your desire to stop sinning – that’s evidence of God’s work in your heart! When we surrender ourselves to Jesus we become new creations – see 2 Corinthians 5:17 (see https://www.bible.com/). But at the same time, the Bible says “…the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another…” (Galatians 5:17). A history of bad habits and selfish choices is difficult to overcome, but the good news is that all things are possible through Jesus (Philippians 4:13). He said in Matthew 6:24 that we cannot serve two masters. If we love our sins more than Jesus we will continue to sin – when we love Jesus most, we will hate our sin, and it sounds like that is where you are headed. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and pours the very love of God out in our hearts, (Romans 5:5). He will help us replace our selfish habits with His fruit (Galatians 5:22): love, joy, and peace.
