Discipleship 1.5 Knowing God: Living for Jesus

Have you ever received a gift that was taken back? It is not truly a gift unless it is freely given and yours forever. The Bible says our salvation is a gift from God. He has forgiven our sins and made us righteous through faith.

But what happens if I sin after I accept Jesus?

Remember that your salvation was not dependent on you doing good before you believed and so it is not dependent on you being perfect after either. “To all who believed Jesus and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God” – John 1:12 – is a promise given to you by God. God does not lie or change his mind! You are His child and NOTHING can separate you from his love.

It’s like any relationship, that when one person wrongs or ignores another it causes tension and distance. You lose that closeness that you once had and you want to see it restored.

All of us make mistakes, and that is why the Bible says, “confess your sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” – (1 John 1:9) What a wonderful promise from God! Just like a loving parent, when we blow it, God doesn’t kick us out of His family. He is ready to forgive us as soon as we come to Him.

Is there anything you need to confess that is keeping you from being close to God? Go to Him now! Confess and He will forgive you. Choose today to be in close friendship with Him.
