Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)
By the valley of weeping we come to Zion. One would have thought mourning and being blessed were in opposition, but the infinitely wise Savior puts them together in this Beatitude. What He has joined together let no man put asunder. Mourning for sin—our own sins, and the sins of others—is the Lord’s seal set upon His faithful ones. When the Spirit of grace is poured upon the house of David, or any other house, they shall mourn. By holy mourning we receive the best of our blessings, even as the rarest commodities come to us by water. Not only shall the mourner be blessed at some future day, but Christ pronounces him blessed even now.
The Holy Spirit will surely comfort those hearts which mourn for sin. They shall be comforted by the application of the blood of Jesus and by the cleansing power of the Holy Ghost. They shall be comforted as to the abounding sin of their city and of their age by the assurance that God will glorify Himself, however much men may rebel against Him. They shall be comforted with the expectation that they shall be wholly freed from sin before long and shall soon be taken up to dwell forever in the glorious presence of their Lord.

The instructions were simple. Keep the balloon in the air; don’t let them touch the floor. One volunteer began carefully tapping the balloon with focused attention. Tap, tap, tap and on he went with a valiant effort bouncing the balloon up, down, up down. The other volunteer stepped away for a moment, returning with her balloon floating high, filled with helium!
My first thought was, “That’s not fair!” But wait the instructions were “Keep the balloon in the air. Don’t let it touch the floor.” Somehow the effort by the first volunteer seemed nobler. Yet, the second volunteer’s strategy would far out last the effort of the first and would win the day.
This simple task has parallels in our spiritual lives. The instructions God gives sometimes referred to as the “Great Commandment” is stated in Mark’s gospel:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)
Our response can be self-effort or being filled, not with helium, but filled with the directing and empowering presences of God’s Spirit. The Spirit of God takes residence in the life of every believer. The power to live the Christian life can never come from self-effort, no matter how noble the effort. Self-effort will always lead to frustration and failure.
The Christian life and specifically this foundational commandment are impossible to fulfill in our own strength. Christ is the only one that has ever filled them perfectly. As followers of Christ are directed and empowered by the Holy Spirit, they are given the power to live a new kind of life, a life where Christ lives in and through them in the power of his Spirit.
Which “balloon” volunteer do you identify with? Does this prayer express the desire of you heart?
“Dear Father, I need You. I acknowledge that I have been directing my own life and that, as a result, I have sinned against You. My self-effort has failed. I thank You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ’s death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to again take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith. I now thank You for directing my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit.”

“He is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, the first to come back to life so that he would have first place in everything.”
Colossians 1:18 GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
When I wake up long before my alarm clock goes off I’m so excited to get that extra free time to spend with Jesus. I rush to fill my coffee cup and spread His Word around me, studying and waiting for fresh insights from Him. In the early morning I seek Him. What new wisdom will He have for me today? Lord, give me understanding of what you are teaching me.
Honoring the Lord with my time, following His agenda rather than my own, and joining Him in His work are ways I try to prioritize my day. Am I flexible when God throws me curve ball? I need to be open to new developments in His scheduling.
His will is before mine – “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” as David’s prayer tells us. We are to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.
We are to put God first in our relationships, before a spouse, children or parents. We can only have the right kinds of relationships if they are built upon and centered in the deep love of Christ. We can only know this pure kind of love if we abide in Christ and have a growing intimacy with Him. God must be given first place in our lives, the place of highest honor, the seat at the head of the table.
The people we know will come and go during different seasons throughout our lives. But God remains forever. He is the first and the last. And all His children will be together with Him for eternity.
In heaven I won’t just give God my early morning hours or occasional moments throughout the day, but I will worship, praise and glorify Him with all of my heart all of the time.

There are Now 250 “Out-of-Control” Fires in Canada, Here’s Why Some Say It’s All ‘Planned’
Massive wildfires have rapidly spread across the Canadian province of Quebec, fueled by dry and hot weather conditions and multiple lightning strikes. The number of fires escalated from 36 to over 100 following a thunderstorm on June 1st, catching authorities off guard. As of Thursday, that massive conflagration has gotten worse. Much, much worse. And the flames are spreading.

New York City Skyline Turned In Apocalyptic End Times Nightmare As Smoke From Wildfires In Canada Render It Nearly Uninhabitable
In a scene straight out of the book of Joel, or even Revelation, the ‘city that never sleeps’ has been engulfed with apocalyptic smoke, infused with an orange-red glow, that has drifted down from wildfires raging out of control in Canada. This is resulting in the worst air quality ever recorded in New York City, and at the moment, just may be the worst anywhere in the world. To you, this may look like an environmental disaster. To me it looks like a harbinger of more to come.

It seems Canada isn’t sophiticated enough to use Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs). Looks like they opted for a drone with a flame thrower instead.

Trump’s attorney Jim Trusty told “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos, “Nice try,” during an interview Friday morning with the ABC News host tried to dismiss the double standard of not charging President Biden for also mishandling classified information.
“You can scoff and act like there’s nothing to it, but the whole country knows the basic notion of unequal treatment and fairness,” Trusty said.
JIM TRUSTY: When I have this conversation with him, he very quickly pivots to concern about the country. You know, it’s not a real selfish analysis. It’s this is a bad moment for our history. This is our country turning the corner. And as somebody that’s been around criminal justice for over 30 years, I agree with him. It’s a Rubicon we shouldn’t be crossing.
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: But doesn’t the president, don’t you believe in the principle that no person is above the law? If the president committed the same crime that someone else did, shouldn’t he be charged?
TRUSTY: No person is below the law. That’s really the issue here. I mean, you’ve got these investigations in Delaware that are a thousand times more serious by a sitting president who has authorized his DOJ to try to sink the candidacy of his prime opposition while that guy has unsecured documents that he stole out of a SCIF dozens of years ago. So, look, you know, we’re not talking about some sort of favoritism.
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: What are you’ talking about?! That is a ridiculous statement.
TRUSTY: There’s this issue (laughs) Nice try. There’s an issue that anyone that reads any news, the first would agree there’s a parallel track, which is the Delaware documents scandal of Joe Biden, where there’s a special counsel, Rob Hur, that’s investigating it. You know that there were documents that were sensitive, that were marked classified, found in a garage near a Corvette that made their way through Chinatown, through the Penn Biden Center. There’s 850 boxes that have never been fully looked at at the University of Delaware. You have the ultimate unclean hands of a current sitting president who had no declassification, had none of the protections of President Trump. And you literally had to have stolen stuff from a skiff. Even Dick Durbin has commented about how this was an outrageous possession of classified material by vice president at that point. Joe Biden. So that’s what we’re talking about. You can scoff and act like there’s nothing to it, but the whole country knows the basic notion of unequal treatment and fairness. And that’s what’s at issue with this prosecution.

U.S. – Former President Donald Trump has officially been indicted by the federal government on seven counts of not storing highly classified documents in his garage behind a corvette.
“Mr. Trump had these documents securely stored in a closet instead of strewn about the garage. Straight to jail,” said Merrick Garland. “Trump’s failure to haphazardly toss Top Secret documents behind a car is nothing short of treasonous.”
For his part, Mr. Trump has denied all wrongdoing. “I hide all my classified documents behind the best, most beautiful cars at Mar-A-Lago,” said Mr. Trump. “Corvettes are for the poors. Do I look like a poor? Ha! I would never put Top Secret documents behind anything cheaper than a McLaren! What a rube!”
At publishing time, the DOJ announced they would also indict Trump for making a deal with Ukraine without his son receiving millions of dollars in bribes.

Tucker Carlson addressed former President Barack Obama in a new monologue posted Thursday on Twitter.
“By 2008, it was obvious to anybody who was paying attention that Barack Obama had a strange and highly creepy personal life. Yet nobody ever asked him about it. By that point, a leader’s behavior within his own marriage, the core relationship of his life, had been declared irrelevant. It was Barack Obama’s business, not yours,” Carlson said.

Former President Donald Trump revealed Thursday he had been indicted on seven counts in connection with his handling of allegedly classified documents.
Trump’s attorney, Jim Trusty, called the charges — which reportedly include false statements, conspiracy to obstruct and a charge under the Espionage Act — “ludicrous.”
Trusty confirmed to CNN that the Department of Justice sent a summons letter to the Republican presidential candidate’s legal team via email listing the counts and scheduling a Miami federal court appearance for Tuesday afternoon.
Republicans, legal experts, and other keen observers reckon this development is an attempt by the Biden administration and those subject to its influence to sap the Democratic president’s top political challenger ahead of the 2024 election.
After all, Biden, no stranger to accusations of mishandling classified documents, could use the help.
Recent Harvard-Harris and Marquette polls indicate Trump has a 5-7 point advantage over the 80-year-old Democrat, who appears to have trouble keeping his footing both in approval polls and on stage.
Republicans circled the wagons Thursday night, certain justice was not the aim with this latest Trump indictment.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) suggested the indictment was the “culmination of what Merrick Garland has been pushing for since he became Attorney General. The weaponization of our Department of Justice against enemies of the Biden admin. will do enormous damage to the rule of law & have a lasting impact.”
Cruz told Fox Business on Thursday that Attorney General Merrick Garland “has corrupted the machinery of government. He’s the most partisan Attorney General in our nation’s history.”
While in competition with Trump for the Republican nomination, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis condemned the indictment, writing, “The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society. We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation. Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter?”
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) tweeted, “The former president will be indicted for ‘mishandling’ his own government’s classified info. Yet everyone agrees the president has the authority to declassify anything. This is a moral and constitutional joke. Merrick Garland has disgraced this country.”
“Biden is attacking his most likely 2024 opponent,” continued Vance. “He’s using the justice system to preemptively steal the 2024 election. This is what’s happening, plain and simple.”
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) concurred, stressing that if the Biden DOJ was indeed trying to clear the political field for President Joe Biden with this indictment, the country was in serious trouble.
“If the president in power can just jail his political opponents, which is what Joe Biden is trying to do tonight, we don’t have a republic anymore. We don’t have the rule of law. We don’t have the Constitution,” Hawley told Fox News. “No one should be in doubt of what’s happening tonight. Joe Biden and his cronies are trying to take out their chief political opponent.”
Hawley added, “this has never happened before in American history. … We are in dangerous, dangerous waters and it is because of Joe Biden.”
“Hawley: If the president in power can jail his political opponents, which is what Joe Biden is trying to do tonight, we don’t have a republic anymore. We don’t have the rule of law or constitution.”

Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) said Trump’s indictment marked a “dark day for the United States of America.”
“It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades. I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump against this grave injustice,” wrote McCarthy. “House Republicans will hold this brazen weaponization of power accountable.”
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) noted the curious timing of the indictment: “On the day members of Congress learn from an FBI document linking then VP Joe Biden to receiving $5 MILLION from Burisma in a pay-for-play scheme, Biden’s DOJ announces another phony indictment of the leading candidate for the GOP Presidential nomination, Biden’s likely opponent, and the former POTUS.”
Donalds added, “This mob-like justice system is turning Lady Justice on its head and is the most significant threat to our democracy.”
TheBlaze previously reported that Trump indicated in a video message that the indictment amounts to “election interference.”
“They’re doing it to affect the election,” said Trump. “They [are] cheating on the election just like the did the last time.”
“I AM AN INNOCENT MAN. THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION IS TOTALLY CORRUPT. THIS IS ELECTION INTERFERENCE & A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Republican lawmakers are not the only ones scratching their heads over the indictment.
Legal expert Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax, “Unless this indictment is the strongest case since [former President] Richard Nixon’s obstruction of justice back in the 1970s, this is a disgrace.”
“When you have the current administration going after the man who was potentially capable of unseating them, it better be the strongest case imaginable,” said Dershowitz. “It better be the case that would get bipartisan support.”
Dershowitz stressed that unless Jack Smith, a war crimes prosecutor appointed by Garland to lead the documents probe, has an ironclad case replete with damning evidence, “this is an indictment that never, ever should have been brought,” adding that if “President Trump believed that he had declassified the material and that he was entitled to possess them, then it can’t be a crime to refuse to turn them over.”
Former Trump advisor and “War Room” host Steve Bannon responded to the news, saying, “This whole fantasy about DOJ [being] separate from the administration, the FBI’s independent — they’re not independent agencies. This is some fantasy that the left has cooked up. … Merrick Garland is hardwired into the White House. The FBI is hardwired into Merrick Garland. They’re rolling against Trump ’cause they can’t beat Trump at the ballot box. The most important thing they have to do from their own perspective is demoralize you.”
Investigative journalist Matt Taibbi, admittedly no fan of Trump, told NewsNation, “If you’re going to take the very extreme step of indicting somebody who is the likely nominee of the opposition party, the charge has to meet two tests: It has to be extremely serious and it has to be an airtight case. And I think both of these cases fail on both of those points.”
Stephen Miller, contributing editor at the Spectator, tweeted, “Comey found stripped classified material on a laptop of the husband of Hillary Clinton’s closest aide, who didn’t have a security clearance & was sexting 15 year olds, and he went like ‘Yeah we’re not pressing charges here’ Everything about the Trump indictment is political.”
Byron York, chief political correspondent at the Washington Examiner, underscored that this indictment is not only the first federal charge against a former president, “but it would also be the first time a sitting president’s administration has indicted a leading opposition party candidate in the run-up to a presidential election.”
Trump’s attorney Jim Trusty told NBC’s “Today” that the former president’s legal team does not anticipate another indictment from the D.C. grand jury empaneled in the classified documents case.

It is often said that “The first casualty when war comes is truth.” The line is attributed to Hiram W Johnson in 1929 in a debate over a dubious effort to legislatively ban war. That line is not original to Johnson but what followed should be equally notable: “this mode of propaganda whereby … people become war hungry in their patriotism and are lied into a desire to fight. We have seen it in the past; it will happen again in the future.”
This week, a new story suggests that Johnson’s prediction may be proven . . . yet again. The Washington Post is reporting that material leaked by Jack Teixeira, a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, revealed that the Biden Administration knew three months ago that it was Ukraine that was planning to sabotage the Nord Stream pipelines. Teixeira is now criminally charged under the Espionage Act.
If true, the Administration withheld the information for months as the media widely speculated that Russia blew up its own pipeline. Russia accused the United States of approving the attack by Ukrainian forces.
President Joe Biden was presumably informed by the intelligence agencies. Yet, as speculation continued and Russia pointed fingers as Ukrainian and the US, Biden told the public “the Russians are pumping out disinformation and lies. We will work with our allies to get to the bottom (of) precisely what happened. Just don’t listen to what Putin’s saying. What he’s saying we know is not true.”
As Biden “worked with our allies to get to the bottom of what happened,” the Administration knew that months previously it was told by a Ukrainian whistleblower that the CIA was told that a six-person team of Ukrainian special forces were planning to rent a boat, dive to the seafloor and blow up the Nord Stream project. The operation was reportedly led by Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces.
It is not clear what president Volodymyr Zelenskiy knew or when he knew it. However, we knew of this report long before the pipeline was destroyed in the very way described by the whistleblower.
Not even the environmental damage by the alleged Ukrainian attack or the blow to our allies was enough for the Administration to reveal the alleged plot. The sabotage reportedly resulted in “more than 115,000 tons of natural gas escap[ing] the damaged pipeline in just six days, with a greenhouse gas contribution of approximately 15 million tons of CO2—or the amount of carbon that can be absorbed by roughly 580 million trees in a year.”
It was also not inclined to tell the press in multiple press conferences or presumably Congress as the Administration demanded billions for the war.
Now a new environmental disaster is building after sabotaging the Kakhovka hydro-electric dam in the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine. Russia has accused Ukraine and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused “Russian terrorists.”
This follows new evidence that Ukraine appeared responsible for the drone attack on the Kremlin recently. Zelenskyy also denied any involvement in that attack. Ukraine stood back as many of us speculated that this seemed like a false flag attack by Russia. After all, it seemed almost laughable in its objective if it sought to kill Putin or cause serious damage to the government.
Western countries have stressed that their military aid to Ukraine was premised on the country not attacking Russia on Russian soil. However, the larger question is whether such intelligence should be kept from Congress and the public when we have already spent over $75 billion on Ukraine.
It also raises a continued question over the Biden Administration withholding evidence that contradicts its national security claims. The Republicans have fought to gain access to a critical State Department cable that appears to refute President Biden and other officials who insisted that they had no prior warning of the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. We ended up leaving $7 billion in top military equipment to terrorists, costing the lives of service members, and left thousands of allies behind.
The lack of candor over Ukraine denied critical information on the conduct of our ally at a time when the public is debating the increasing costs of the war. If Ukraine is engaging in sabotage against our other allies (and the environment), we have a right to know. If committed by Ukraine, the drone attack on the Kremlin was remarkably stupid. It threatened an escalation of the conflict with little obvious military advantage. With tens of billions of dollars going to Ukraine and a world teetering on the brink of a large conflict, we (and particularly Congress) need to know if our allies are telling us the truth or whether they are reliable allies. Likewise, if Zelenskyy did not now of these major operations, it is a fair question to ask who is really in charge of the country or whether Zelenskyy is engaging in willful blindness.
It is even more troubling when Administration officials are presenting conflicting accounts or denying any knowledge of countervailing facts.
Throughout our history, Administrations have jettisoned truth when embarking on war. The most glaring example is the Tonkin Bay Incident that was used to justify the Vietnam War, an attack on US vessels that was later debunked. Likewise, the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam War revealed, according to the New York Times, the government “systematically lied, not only to the public but also to Congress.”
This is precisely why Congress is given oversight authority and why war powers are shared with Congress. The most important power held by Congress is the power of the purse. It has an obligation to guarantee that money is being spent wisely and based on accurate information.
Many of us supported the sanctions against Russia and still support the Ukrainians in their fight to protect their homeland. However, that does not mean that we should be played for chumps.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine incurred the losses as it pushed against Russian defenses, the military has claimed
Ukrainian forces have lost up to 1,240 troops and 39 tanks during one 24-hour period, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported in its latest daily update on Friday. This adds to the heavy toll moscow claims Kiev suffered during a week when it is believed to have launched a long-expected counteroffensive against Russia.
The Ministry added that 30 infantry fighting vehicles, 38 armored vehicles, as well as a dozen pieces of artillery and other military hardware, some of it provided by Kiev’s Western sponsors, were also destroyed.
Two Ukrainian military jets, two UK-provided Storm Shadow cruise missiles, and 13 drones were intercepted and shut down during one day, the report added.
Russian and Western media have concluded that Ukraine has launched a major push against its opponent this week, trying to capitalize on the trove of weapons supplied by the US and its allies. Ukrainian officials have, nonetheless, offered conflicting reports on whether the operation has started.
Supporters of the country expressed hope that it could score significant territorial gains using Western-produced main battle tanks, which it didn’t have previously. The Russian military reported repelling a series of Ukrainian attacks over the week and said Kiev was paying a heavy price for probing the Russian defenses in various parts of the frontline.

Western nations have pledged to support Kiev for as long as it takes to inflict a “strategic defeat”on Russia. But media reports indicate that the scale of future military assistance would depend on whether Ukrainian troops manage to deliver battlefield successes. The White House is “anxiously watching” the action, since the reputation of President Joe Biden is at stake in it, Politico said of the Ukrainian operation.
