There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true. —Soren Kierkegaard. "…truth is true even if nobody believes it, and falsehood is false even if everybody believes it. That is why truth does not yield to opinion, fashion, numbers, office, or sincerity–it is simply true and that is the end of it" – Os Guinness, Time for Truth, pg.39. “He that takes truth for his guide, and duty for his end, may safely trust to God’s providence to lead him aright.” – Blaise Pascal. "There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth and pursue it steadily" – George Washington letter to Edmund Randolph — 1795. We live in a “post-truth” world. According to the dictionary, “post-truth” means, “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.” Simply put, we now live in a culture that seems to value experience and emotion more than truth. Truth will never go away no matter how hard one might wish. Going beyond the MSM idealogical opinion/bias and their low information tabloid reality show news with a distractional superficial focus on entertainment, sensationalism, emotionalism and activist reporting – this blogs goal is to, in some small way, put a plug in the broken dam of truth and save as many as possible from the consequences—temporal and eternal. "The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it." – George Orwell “There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.” ― Soren Kierkegaard
The main problem with our lives is not that we’re unhappy or have made a couple of minor missteps. Our diagnosis isn’t merely that we have some existential gaps that just need to be filled by a new hobby or an outlet for charitable service. It’s not that we’re lost and just need a little bit of direction or that we have low self-esteem and need to think more positively. Biblically speaking, our problem is actually this: we are by nature “foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another” (Titus 3:3).
That’s quite a condition to find ourselves in. The problem goes far deeper and spreads much wider than we like to think. Whether we are three or eighty-three years old when the Lord Jesus Christ breaks into our lives and saves us, our state before God until then is one of utter hopelessness. In His grace, however, God washes us and renews us through the Holy Spirit and causes us to become “heirs according to the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3:4-7). God’s grace is far greater than we tend to imagine!
But once we are “justified by his grace” (Titus 3:7), what then? God goes to work, progressively and incrementally, to rid us of our foolishness and disobedience. God’s grace comes to us as we are, but it does not leave us as we are, for it teaches us “to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives” (Titus 2:12).
Imagine a new brother in Christ named George. He’s been a Christian for two days. Last week, George was deceived, he was destructive, he was filled with hate, he was lost in idolatry, and he was committed to sensuality. Suddenly, George met Christ. The Spirit of God regenerated him, and now George finds himself in the church. George is saved but he is not yet the finished article. No, he is a work in progress. Of course he still has some messes that need to be cleaned up. Of course he has some confusion in his mind about what following Christ means for his life.
All of us are like George to one degree or another. No matter how many years we’ve believed in Jesus, we are all works in progress. We need the Bible to guide us. We need other members of Christ’s body to help us along. We need to trust that God will do what He has promised and finish the good work He began in us (Philippians 1:6).
Progress might seem slow at times, but with His Spirit at work, you will make it all the way home. Until then, reflect on your condition apart from Christ, for it will humble you. Remember what God’s grace did in saving you, for it will encourage you. See the ways in which the Spirit has grown you in godliness, for it will reassure you. And ask the Lord, in His grace, to keep on changing you, bit by bit, as you wait for the appearing of your Savior and the day when you are perfected in glory (Titus 2:13-14).
Questions for Thought
How is God calling meto think differently?
How is God reordering myheart’s affections— what I love?
What is God calling meto doas I go about my day today?
I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice. (John 16:22)
Surely He will come a second time, and then, when He sees us and we see Him, there will be rejoicings indeed. Oh, for that joyous return! But this promise is being daily fulfilled in another sense. Our gracious Lord has many “agains” in His dealings with us. He gave us pardon, and He sees us again and repeats the absolving word as fresh sins cause us grief. He has revealed to us our acceptance before God, and when our faith in that blessing grows a little dim, He comes to us again and again and says, “Peace be unto you,” and our hearts are glad.
Beloved, all our past mercies are tokens of future mercies. If Jesus has been with us, He will see us again. Look upon no former favor as a dead and buried thing, to be mourned over; but regard it as a seed sown, which will grow, and push its head up from the dust, and cry, “I will see you again.” Are the times dark because Jesus is not with us as He used to be? Let us pluck up courage; for He will not be long away. His feet are as those of a roe or young hart, and they will soon bring Him to us. Wherefore let us begin to be joyous, since He saith to us even now, “I will see you again.”
“I advise you to obey only the Holy Spirit’s instructions. He will tell you where to go and what to do, and then you won’t always be doing the wrong things your evil nature wants you to” Galatians 5:16
Major conflicts in life are resolved when, by an act of the will, one surrenders to the control of the Holy Spirit and faces temptation in His power.
It should be explained that there is a difference between temptation and sin.
Temptation is the initial impression to do something contrary to God’s will. Such impressions come to all people, even as they did to the Lord, and they are not sin in themselves.
Temptation becomes sin when we meditate on the impression and develop a strong desire, which is often followed by the actual act of disobedience.
For practical daily living, we simply recognize our weakness whenever we are tempted and obey the Holy Spirit’s instructions. When we do not yield to temptation, we breathe spiritually and resume our walk with God.
“At what point does one who practices spiritual breathing become carnal again?” Whenever one ceases to believe God’s promise that He will enable us to be victorious over all temptations. The fact is, one need never be carnal again. So long as a believer keeps breathing spiritually, there is no need to live a life of defeat.
The moment you realize that you have done that which grieves or quenches the Spirit, you simply exhale spiritually by confessing immediately, and then inhale as by faith you claim God’s forgiveness and the fullness of the Holy Spirit, and you keep walking in the light as God is in the light.
Bible Reading: Galatians 5:17-26
Today’s Action Point: I will consciously seek to obey the Holy Spirit’s instructions revealed to me in His holy, inspired Word.
We are filled with the Holy Spirit by faith alone. However, true prayer is one way of expressing your faith. The following is a suggested prayer:
“Dear Father, I need You. I acknowledge that I have been directing my own life and that, as a result, I have sinned against You. I thank You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ’s death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to again take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith. I now thank You for directing my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit.”
Think about a time in your life when you experienced true grief.
We experience grief when we lose a cherished loved one. We experience grief when we know we’ve badly hurt someone we love. Or maybe grief comes from the loss of a dream. Sometimes we grieve when we know we’ve been unable to reach someone whom we desperately want to help turn their life around. There are many reasons we feel grief in our lives.
I want you to think about how it felt when you faced that grief in your life, the broken-hearted, gut wrenching sorrow in which your soul cried for release from the pain.
Do you know that when we sin we grieve the Holy Spirit? The Bible says in Ephesians 4:30:
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
There are times when I’m really tempted to sin in which the Lord reminds me that if I do so, I will grieve his Holy Spirit. At those times, if I really stop and think about how I felt during times of great distress and grief in my life, I realize that I don’t want to cause the Holy Spirit of God to experience grief because of my actions. Let us not resist the Lord’s prompting to turn away from the temptation which so easily besets us.
Prayer:Merciful God, Abba Father, may I be ever mindful that when I’m tempted to sin, to do so would grieve your Holy Spirit. Give me the strength to resist the lure of evil. Help me to choose to do what is right in your sight and bring honor and glory to your name.

Planned Parenthood reports abortions up 54% in Illinois as bordering states enact laws protecting the preborn The Illinois branch of Planned Parenthood says its abortion facilities have seen a drastic influx of abortion-seeking women after a bevy of Republican-led states nationwide have enacted laws to protect the lives of preborn babies. The phenomenon is part of the ongoing “abortion tourism” trend in which women in pro-life states travel for abortion.
“If individuals be not influenced by moral principles; it is in vain to look for public virtue; it is, therefore, the duty of legislators to enforce, both by precept and example, the utility, as well as the necessity of a strict adherence to the rules of distributive justice.” —James Madison (1789)

It’s not just the Biden Crime Family — it’s also the attorney general and the FBI.
Douglas Andrews
They were The Scandal-Free Years™. Remember?
Remember how our corrupt mainstream media promoted the lie that the Obama administration had gone eight years without so much as a whiff of scandal?
Let’s set aside the fact that Barack Obama routinely violated the Constitution, and let’s set aside the fact that he sicced the IRS, DOJ, FBI, ATF, and OSHA on private American citizens for political reasons. Let’s even set aside the fact that Obama’s fingerprints were all over the Russia collusion investigation operation crime scene.
Let’s set all that aside.
Instead, let’s remember that he handpicked Joe Biden to be his vice president, and then allowed the Big Guy to preside over an elaborate and lucrative influence-peddling operation right out of the White House. Just ask the Chinese. Or the Ukrainians. Or the Romanians.
And let’s remember that he bragged in his most recent doorstop memoir: “Without exception, we avoided scandal. I’d made clear at the start of my administration that I’d have zero-tolerance for ethical lapses, and people who had a problem with that didn’t join us in the first place.”
Uh-huh.
Given all this, isn’t it remarkable how we haven’t heard a peep from the guy about the cascading scandals of his vice president and the extended Biden Crime Family? Where’s the media? Where’s the well-worn path they’ve beaten to his door on Martha’s Vineyard? Why, if we didn’t know better, we’d swear the Pulitzer Prize winners at The New York Times and The Washington Post are more interested in fake Republican corruption than they are in real Democrat corruption. More interested in the penny-ante misdeeds of rookie Republican back-benchers than they are in the colossal crimes of the Democrat Party’s First Family.
What did Obama know and when did he know it?
Meanwhile, implausibly, the news of Biden family corruption and Department of “Justice” efforts to cover up crimes and slow-walk investigations keeps getting worse and worse. As The Washington Free Beacon reports:
An IRS whistleblower told Congress on Thursday that the tax agency recommended felony charges against Hunter Biden and that the federal prosecutor handling the probe of the first son was rebuffed from filing charges on multiple occasions, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee disclosed on Thursday.
Rep. Jason Smith (R., Mo.) said at a press conference that two IRS employees claimed the agency sought felony charges against the younger Biden for attempting to evade taxes and fraudulent or false statements, all felony charges. The whistleblowers, who worked on the Biden probe since its start in November 2018, further claimed that the investigation was marred by “recurring unjustified delays” and “unusual actions outside the normal course of any investigation.”
The Democrats, of course, want us to focus on the salacious, like the media did with Bill Clinton and Zippergate. They want us to focus on Hunter’s Russian hookers and crack pipes and nude selfies. That way, they can say, “It’s all about sex and drugs.”
Further, they want us to focus on Hunter. They want us to decry the pathetic five-year non-investigation into his tax evasion felonies and his gun-form felony because it keeps the focus on the first son instead of his dad, the president. But never forget: The is about the Big Guy.
In addition, the Democrats love to trot out the “old news” argument while insisting that the American people aren’t interested in this “petty partisanship.” With the help of their mainstream media fellow travelers, they ignore, delay, deny, and obfuscate until it’s time to throw the “old news” switch.
Unfortunately for them, the news about Hunter Biden is new news, not old news.
And it’s not just Hunter. It’s Attorney General Merrick Garland, who appears to have perjured himself before Congress. As The Daily Caller reports, “[IRS whistleblower Gary] Shapley’s letter to Congress accuses Attorney General Merrick Garland of lying to Congress when he asserted that investigations into Biden would go on without political interference.”
How so? As House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith notes: “Testimony shows that U.S. Attorney of Delaware David Weiss tried to bring charges in the District of Columbia around March of 2022 and was denied. Weiss sought special counsel status from the [Justice Department] in the spring of 2022 and was once again denied. Weiss sought to bring charges in the Central District of California in the fall of 2022 and had that request denied in January of 2023.”
Lastly, we have FBI corruption to consider, because yet another whistleblower makes clear that the bureau knew nearly a year ahead of the 2020 election that Hunter Biden’s laptop was real and legit, not some “Russian disinformation” operation. And yet the FBI still conned Big Tech into censoring it and suppressing news of it in the crucial weeks prior to the election.
Think about the ramifications of this — for both our Republic and for Rule of Law.
You should be disturbed — deeply disturbed — by the corruption of the Biden Crime Family and by the Department of “Justice.” But even more so, you should worry about the FBI, the once-proud agency of “Fidelity,” “Bravery,” and “Integrity.” Whereas we’ve come to expect corruption from Democrat administrations, we’ve naturally expected the FBI to be decent and honest and honorable and beyond the influence of political corruption.
It isn’t. The FBI is, sadly, in need of defunding. Or breaking up. Or both. Or, at least, a complete makeover beginning with the resignation of Director Chris Wray, who can have no good explanation for the rank corruption that has infected the bureau during his watch. Indeed, the FBI is infected with scumbags in all the wrong places.
We know this because of, once again, the bravery of whistleblowers.

The demise of Roe v. Wade last year provided the opportunity to save countless lives.
Nate Jackson
One year ago tomorrow, millions of Americans rejoiced as Roe v. Wade was sent to the ash heap of history where it belongs. The Supreme Court issued its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization on June 24, and with it overturned the horrendous Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey travesties, which since 1973 resulted in an estimated 63 million abortions.
Since then, many thousands of babies have been saved from premature death and given a shot at Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
And Democrats couldn’t be more outraged.
The Dobbs decision was leaked last May in an obvious attempt to intimidate a justice or two into changing his or her vote. It didn’t work. Almost laughably, that leaker has still not been identified — at least not publicly.
The leak and then the ruling itself led to angry protests, including illegal ones in front of the homes of conservative justices. One unhinged “pro-choice” loon even attempted to assassinate Brett Kavanaugh. Other thugs spent months vandalizing churches and pro-life centers.
Though the Biden administration issued a perfunctory statement of mild rebuke for violence, Joe Biden’s Justice Department responded with a collective yawn. The president himself, devout Catholic though he claims to be, regularly joined in with irate heckling and denunciations of the Court. His party whipped up women into a frenzy to help blunt the expected red wave in the midterm elections.
Nevertheless, those of us who prize the life given us by our Creator, and the true meaning of the Constitution that was so distorted by Roe, will henceforth celebrate every June 24.
We’ll also continue the work of saving lives. Most often, that’s going to mean the one-on-one care provided by organizations like our local Choices Pregnancy Resource Center. Compassionate attention and help provided to each woman in a crisis pregnancy is always going to be the best way forward. If she doesn’t feel loved or helped, there are plenty of well-funded predators ready to offer their “services.”
That said, laws also matter. The Washington Examiner has an excellent summary of the status of laws in all 50 states. We’ll paint with a broader brush here.
Many states had “trigger laws” variously banning abortion that took effect when Roe fell. Other states — all controlled by pro-life Republicans — set to work passing new laws. Some have been upheld in court, some have been blocked. That fight will continue, but in our humble estimation, Republicans should be mindful that saving some lives with a compromise is better than saving none with a law that’s struck down. See the paragraph above for our rationale.
In Democrat-controlled states, the trend went the opposite direction, as states rushed to “protect abortion rights” by ensuring that preborn babies can be killed right up until birth.
Congressional Democrats want to foist that policy on the entire nation. They claim they just want to codify Roe, but their legislation goes so far as to guarantee full-term abortion, as well as eviscerate parental rights when a minor seeks an abortion and the conscience rights of healthcare providers who do not wish to participate in murdering babies.
Just seven nations on earth allow this barbaric practice all the way through pregnancy, and most of the rest are communist.
That harsh truth notwithstanding, Leftmedia outlets reporting on this anniversary wring their hands over “lost rights.” The Associated Press frets about the “25 million women [who] live in states with abortion bans or tighter restrictions.”
Then there’s the polling. NBC News assures us that “61% of voters disapprove” of the Court’s Dobbs ruling, which NBC falsely asserts “remov[ed] federal protection of the right to abortion.” Fact-check: The Court said no such right ever existed in the Constitution. Lies like NBC’s might have something to do with public perception of the ruling.
Moreover, NBC adds, “53% say abortion access nationwide has become too difficult.” Again, pollaganda works.
Clearly, we have a long way to go before abortion is as universally loathed as slavery.
The cultural changes over the last century that have made abortion a hot political topic are too numerous to fully recount here. Yet there is one overriding truth: We are talking about a human life in the womb, a genuine person with a soul and a future. “On the first anniversary of Dobbs,” write the editors of National Review, “it is worth taking a moment to be thankful for the tens of thousands of human beings who will get to see their own first birthday, and many more, because of it.”
A deal on Biden impeachment, school lockdown advocate’s promotion, Dr. Untruth decries disinformation, and more.
Thomas Gallatin & Jordan Candler
Cross-Examination
Boebert and McCarthy strike a deal on Biden impeachment: A contingent of House Republicans have been increasingly champing at the bit to impeach Joe Biden over his willful failure to secure the southern border. On Tuesday, Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert unexpectedly filed a privileged resolution calling for a floor vote to impeach Biden. The move reportedly caught Speaker Kevin McCarthy off guard, and he called it “flippant.” However, he was able to reach an agreement with Boebert to send the question of impeachment to the House Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees, which the House voted in favor of doing. Meanwhile, Democrat lawmakers were quick to lament the move and charged Republicans with “political grandstanding.” Well, as Republicans warned Democrats when they went on their impeachment warpath against Donald Trump, what goes around comes around. However, unlike Trump, who was first impeached thanks in part to a Hillary Clinton-created hoax, Biden deserves to be impeached. The trouble is the majority of Americans aren’t interested in what appears to many to be the settling of political scores.
School lockdown advocate gets a promotion: Students’ math and reading scores slid to two-decade lows thanks almost entirely to needless school lockdowns, social distancing, and masking mandates. One of the biggest promoters of maintaining these draconian measures under the guise of protecting the kids was American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten. Not only did she seek to defend these measures contrary to growing scientific evidence, but she blasted states that sought to reopen schools as “reckless, callous, cruel.” At nearly every turn Weingarten sided with a woke political narrative that opposes parental rights, children’s education, and sound scientific evidence. Yet despite — or rather because of — her record, the Biden administration appointed Weingarten to the Department of Homeland Security’s Academic Partnership Council, which is tasked with providing advice on “safety and security … and emergency management and preparedness measures.”
Dr. Untruth decries disinformation: Speaking of promoting pandemic-related misinformation, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH, appeared at a summit on healthcare where he expressed concern over America’s future due to the “normalization of untruths.” Fauci, who infamously called himself “the science” while being repeatedly caught spreading untruths, lamented, “There are so many misrepresentations and distortions of reality and conspiracy theory that it almost becomes normalized.” He then argued, “We should not accept that as the new normal because when facts are no longer accepted as facts, when distortions occur and when reality is distorted, that will undermine the foundations of the social order and of our democracy.” The gall of this man. Fauci actively sought to suppress inconvenient facts and legitimate inquiry regarding the origin of COVID, probably because of his hand in it. Indeed, he peddled distortions of facts about NIH funding of gain-of-function research in order to protect and promote a certain narrow political narrative. Democracy is not what Fauci is worried about losing; rather, he cares about protecting the elite establishment class from the democratic process.
TikTok data in Communist China: Popular social media platform TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, finally admitted what lawmakers have been repeatedly charging — that it does indeed store data on American users in China. In a letter sent to Congress in response to an inquiry from Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) requesting information on its data collecting, TikTok claimed it was not contradicting prior testimony when the company claimed it did not store user data in China. Effectively playing a game of semantics, TikTok acknowledged in the letter that the company does collect and store “creator data” in China, but that it stands by congressional testimony: “We were asked about, and our testimony focused on, the protected user data collected in the app — not creator data.” TikTok’s admission comes as Congress is looking to advance legislation that could result in a ban on the social media company. Following TikTok’s admission, Blackburn and Blumenthal were clearly unimpressed. They issued a joint statement noting, “TikTok’s response makes it crystal clear that Americans’ data is still exposed to Beijing’s draconian and pervasive spying regimes — despite the claims of TikTok’s misleading public relations campaign.”
Good News: NHL abandons pride jerseys: With the backlash that Bud Light, Target, and the LA Dodgers have experienced for promoting gross displays of “Pride,” the National Hockey League is looking to avoid any further “distraction.” On Thursday, the NHL Board of Governors decided to nix the controversial practice of teams donning LGBTQ-themed warmup jerseys to celebrate “Pride Nights.” While “Pride Nights” will continue, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said that for the players, “we’re keeping the focus on the game.” In other words, just play hockey. What a novel idea.
Will Hurd announces: Another candidate has entered the Republican presidential primary field. His name is Will Hurd, and in this case the joke writes itself: Who has heard of Hurd? There is likely a good reason few know of Hurd, as he is a former CIA spy. However, to be fair, he did garner publicity last year with his book American Reboot: An Idealist’s Guide to Getting Big Things Done. His contention is that the Republican Party needs to “be the party that talks about the future, not the past.” His primary campaign issues are China, inflation, education, and artificial intelligence. He also believes that “the GOP will continue to lose to Democrats if Donald Trump is the nominee.”

This fantastic song by Randy Newman states a timeless truth: Money and fame cannot buy joy or a contented life. When you get to the top of the mountain in your career, there’s nothing there. Money is empty, and fame is hollow.
It’s interesting to see that several Hollywood stars have come to realize this and are taking a break from the business. Fox News lists actors Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”), Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”), Tom Holland (“Spider-Man”), Jim Carrey (“The Truman Show”), and Ryan Reynolds (“The Proposal”). Fox also lists Cameron Diaz, who retired in 2018, but Jamie Foxx reportedly dragged her out of retirement for another project, so she only half counts.
The mega stars have talked about spending time with their families, taking care of their health, and trying to find a simpler life. Carrey in particular became a Christian. In a recent talk to a room full of former inmates, Carrey testified: “I’ve had some challenges in the last couple of years myself. And ultimately, I believe that suffering leads to salvation. We have to somehow accept and not deny, but feel our suffering. And then we make one of two decisions. We either decide to go through the gate of resentment, which leads to vengeance, which leads to self harm, which leads to harm to others. Or we go through the gate of forgiveness, which leads to grace.”
Holland was another stunning revelation. He is a younger actor (27) and his rise to fame was astronomical. That rocket-like rise is part of the reason he is taking a break. His work kept him too busy. He wants to spend time with his loved ones. Plus, he is burned out. It’s a huge emotional toll to act and to constantly be in the spotlight.
Millie Bobby Brown and her fiancé Jacob Bonjovi could be tangentially added to this list of wise Hollywood A-listers. They are breaking cultural norms by getting married young. They aren’t leaving the business, but they are trying to pursue family. That is a worthy goal.
Other actors such as Harrison Ford have owned the fact that they chose their career over their families. In an interview back in May, Ford said in his brusk way: “I can tell you this. If I’d been less successful, I’d probably be a better parent. I accept my flaws and my failures — I don’t accept them, I own them. And certainly the more constant gardener is the better parent, and I’ve been out of town, up my own a**, for most of my life.”
There is a parable in the Bible that touches on the difficulties of leaving behind wealth and fame. In Matthew 19:16-28, a wealthy young man comes to Jesus and asks what he must do to have eternal life. Jesus replies by quoting some of the Ten Commandments such as do not murder, do not commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t give false testimony, honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself. The young man replied, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?”
Jesus told him that to be perfect, the young man should go and sell everything he owns, give to the poor, and follow Him (Jesus). The young man left very sorrowfully, for he was very rich. Matthew 19:23-24 is Jesus’s lesson to the disciples: “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
Leaving the glitter, clout, and promised wealth that comes with being a famous celebrity in favor of a quieter, simpler, and family-oriented life is difficult. These men and women are to be commended for their choices and we wish them the best.
The COVID-19 lockdowns were an unmitigated disaster for our children, and the latest version of the nation’s report card proves it.
Brian Mark Weber
In the waning days of our collective COVID-19 psychosis, we looked forward to sending our kids back to the classroom, where (we hoped) they would once again get a solid education in the fundamentals.
To our dismay, we found exactly the opposite.
Last fall, the National Assessment of Education Standards was administered to 13-year-olds across the country, testing students’ proficiency in math and reading. The results of “the nation’s report card” were abysmal. “The 13-year-olds scored an average of 256 out of 500 in reading, and 271 out of 500 in math,” reports The New York Times, “down from average scores of 260 in reading and 280 in math three years ago.”
But at least the pandemic was an equal-opportunity destroyer. The Times adds: “Achievement declined across lines of race, class and geography. But in math, especially, vulnerable children — including Black, Native American and low-income students — experienced bigger drops.”
Now, so-called education experts are scratching their heads without seeing the obvious — like, oh, the fact that many schools locked kids away for two years without any social interaction. As political analyst Ed Morrissey writes, “That certainly would explain why economically disadvantaged children suffered more of a drop-off, since they would be more at risk for learning loss in a remote environment — and some might not have had ongoing access to remote education at all.”
But that’s not all. The NAES found that scores had been falling long before the coronavirus. Morrissey adds: “The post-pandemic part of the plunge proves that not only did we get no benefit from those policies, we did real damage to the cognitive development of our children, and almost certainly their social and psychological health as well. The fact that scores had been falling previous to the pandemic does not negate that conclusion at all — it proves that our pandemic policies made an already-bad situation worse.”
If educators and politicians are looking for answers, they needn’t look very far. For example, California’s Mathematics Curriculum Framework seeks to replace rigor in mathematics education with cultural Marxist teachings in environmental and social justice. No kidding. Teachers there are instructed to teach “socio-political consciousness” instead of algebra — which, if you live in Cali, explains why your kids might not be able to solve a basic equation, write a complete sentence, or explain the difference between the executive and the judicial branches. But when it comes to political activism, they’re ready to take to the streets for Black Lives Matter, Greenpeace, or Pride Month.
For the sane opposition, here are Williamson Evers and Ze’ev Wurman from the Independent Institute: “A real champion of equity and justice would want all California’s children to learn actual math — as in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus — not an endless river of new pedagogical fads that effectively distort and displace actual math.”
Unfortunately, the Left’s union-driven education agenda affects subjects across the board, including civics. As for the NAEP, “Just 13% of eighth graders met the proficiency standard for history,” Fox News reports. “Barely 20% met the standard for civics. According to the 2022 Annenberg Civics Knowledge Survey, less than half of Americans could name all three branches of government; less than 25% could identify the freedom of religion as guaranteed by the Constitution.”
And we wonder why these children grow up to vote Democrat. Even the paucity of civics education they do receive is becoming increasingly politicized.
“Teachers have rewritten their job description,” argues Bethany Mandel at The Spectator. “Out: civics basics. In: indoctrination. They believe that their mandate isn’t to teach history or civics, but instead, to brainwash children; and lo and behold, just a few years later, children are falling ever further behind in competence in this newly hyperpoliticized subject area.”
All this makes one wonder whether our kids might’ve been better off staying at home post-COVID. At least at home they’d avoid that steady diet of anti-American propaganda and Marxist indoctrination.
Former Republican Congressman Mike Rogers thinks some form of national service might unite the country again. And we get it. Serving others is never a bad approach, and it might help build character and unity among those who join in. But national service still leaves our kids without a solid education in the three R’s or even a basic grasp of civics.
We have years, perhaps decades, to fight and win this war. The good news is that a national movement is underway. Thanks to COVID-19, we finally got to see the true colors of the teachers unions. (Imagine that. They’re commie red.) And parents, students, educators, and political leaders are finally fed up with our schools serving as Marxist boot camps.

On June 16, President Joe Biden ended a big gun-control speech in Connecticut with the words, “God save the queen, man.” Why did the president express adoration for the departed Brit monarch? Was he confused about royal succession? Who knows.
When asked about the incident, White House aides offered nonsensical and conflicting answers — because they have absolutely no idea, and neither does the president. It’s likely that the octogenarian spontaneously used a cool-sounding phrase, much like when your elderly neighbor tells you to “keep on truckin’” for no apparent reason. It happens.
Yet, Axios writer Alex Thompson points out that Biden “has an arsenal of wacky phrases.” And the president’s “quirky aphorisms,” he contends, “are sometimes weaponized by Republicans to insinuate the 80-year-old president is in mental decline.”
There is no need for insinuation. Biden’s mental acuity, never impressive, has considerably deteriorated. Sure, he also tends to botch “old-timey” sayings like, “lots of luck in your senior year,” which he says is a gibe from his Corn Pop days. But most reporters who pretend perceptions of Biden’s decline are due to his propensity for homespun maxims or previously unknown stuttering problems almost surely wouldn’t find him fit enough to babysit their kids.
Every week, the president of the United States says something completely bonkers, and everyone goes on with their day. We’re not talking about his propensity to lie about politics or his blustery lifelong fabulism. We’re talking about his inability to articulate simple ideas without notes — and often with notes. There are rarely any fact-checks of these statements. How can there be? They don’t even make sense as lies. There is no handwringing about the role of competency in our democracy. There is no discussion about the 25th Amendment.
Just listen to any one of his speeches. “Put a pistol on a brace, it turns into a gun — makes it more — you can have a higher-caliber weapon, higher-caliber bullet coming out of that gun,” the president explained before wishing Her Majesty his best. This was also complete gibberish. There is so much gibberish.
Only a couple of days before his “God save the queen” comment, Biden informed a crowd gathered for a League of Conservation Voters endorsement that “we” have “plans to build a railroad from the Pacific all the way across the Indian Ocean,” which must have really impressed everyone in attendance. “We have plans to build in Angola one of the largest solar plants in the world,” Biden went on. “I can go on, but I’m not. I’m going off-script. I’m going to get in trouble.”
A few days before the railroad comment, Biden couldn’t remember Winston Churchill’s name when speaking to the prime minister of the U.K. Listen, I’m not great with names myself, and I’m sure as an 80-year-old I’d have trouble recalling world leaders … but I’m confident I wouldn’t think myself competent enough to be the most powerful man in the world. Nor should Biden.
That same week, when asked why a Ukrainian FBI informant referred to Biden as the “Big Guy,” the president lashed out for being posed “dumb questions.” He does this often in frustration. When the president isn’t flubbing canned lines to the rare tough question, he yells things like, “c’mon, man!” A few years ago, this kind of rhetoric was considered democracy-shattering. Now, it’s quirky and folksy.
The week before he couldn’t remember Churchill’s name, the president also tripped and fell on stage after a commencement speech at the Air Force Academy. Biden’s surrogates pointed out that there had been a sandbag right there, as if no one, whether young or old, could possibly be expected to walk over a small bag without falling to the floor.
You might recall that after the former president gingerly navigated a ramp after giving a speech at West Point in 2020, The New York Times’ headline the next day was: “Trump’s Halting Walk Down Ramp Raises New Health Questions.” The president, the Times went on, “also appeared to have trouble raising a glass of water to his mouth during a speech at West Point a day before he turned 74, the oldest a president has been in his first term.” The sitting president is now six years older than Trump was at the time — he would be a decade older should he finish a second term.
Of course, everyone ages differently — Sen. John Fetterman, only 53, can barely put together a thought while some septuagenarian is out there writing his literary opus right now. Nor is there anything wrong with or especially unique about being a scatterbrained and tired 80-year-old. In this case, maybe Americans who elected a scatterbrained and tired 80-year-old deserve to be governed by him — good and hard, as H.L. Mencken might say. But please stop pretending Biden is OK. He’s not.

Who doesn’t experience some degree of depression during their teenage years? Very few of us.
But these days, teens have a lot more than puberty and the typical pressures of growing up to contend with.
Nearly 50% of today’s juveniles report startling levels of depression.
So what’s changed? Why do today’s adolescents appear to be in such a dark place?
Allie Beth Stuckey dives into this issue by examining a study that tracked depression in teenagers from 1991 through 2023. And the results are deeply concerning.
The study documents how teenagers in the 8th, 10th, and 12th grades responded to the following three statements:
1. “I can’t do anything right.”
2. “My life is not useful.”
3. “I do not enjoy life.”
It’s disheartening to think that any person, much less a child, could find any of those statements true, but that’s the reality for roughly 50% of American teens today.
Stuckey reports that currently “49.5% of 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-graders think that they can’t do anything right … 48.9% say [they] do not enjoy life,” and “44% say that [their] life is not useful.”
These are alarming numbers, especially considering that depression rates among these populations were the lowest around 2008, just fifteen years ago.
Stuckey thinks that her high school days were considerably more lighthearted because kids “didn’t carry the weight of news on [their] shoulders.”
How do today’s kids have so much access to the abysmal news that plagues the media?
Social media, of course.
So today’s social-media-fluent teenagers must contend with utter depravity across the entire globe. It’s too much for most adults to digest. The fact that our teenagers are suffering really isn’t all that shocking.
Add to that the fact that studies show that “dopamine released by the videos we watch … sets [us] up to be tired and lazy for the rest of the day.”
Given these dire circumstances, Stuckey is not surprised that nearly half of current teens are left “feeling purposeless.”
She also, however, speculates that there’s more than just social media behind these disturbing statistics. Maybe it’s becoming normalized for people to assume they are depressed, even when their emotions are entirely within the spectrum of what’s considered normal.
President Joe Biden failed to meet this week’s deadline for the congressionally mandated release of documents related to the origins of COVID-19, despite having signed the law requiring the declassification.

Love them or hate them, American presidents have always represented the strength of our nation. They stand as the symbol of American power in the highest office in the land, contributing to the perception of our nation as the most formidable and influential on the world stage.
But the often confused and disoriented 80-year-old currently occupying the White House is changing world perception as more evidence emerges daily that the president of the United States is not in full control of his faculties.
After Biden closed out a speech on gun control by exclaiming, “God save the queen, man,” on Friday, Sky News Australia host James Macpherson speculated in a tongue-in-cheek monologue that Biden might be sending coded messages that he has dementia.
“Joe Biden concluded a speech on gun control over the weekend by telling his audience, ‘God save the queen, man,’” Macpherson said.
“To which someone should have replied, “She’s been dead almost a year, man.’”
“Why would an American president, speaking in America to an American audience, say, ‘God save the queen?” Macpherson asked. “Has Biden forgotten what country he’s in? Someone needed to tell Biden that Connecticut, where he was speaking, was New England, not England.”
The Sky News host said some have speculated that “God save the queen” is such a bizarre thing to say that Biden “must be sending coded messages,” while others believe he must be suffering from dementia.
“I like to think it’s a combination of the two. It’s a coded message telling us that he has dementia,” Macpherson said. “I guess he just plain forgot that he was at the queen’s funeral only a few months ago.”
“And what’s with the ‘man’ at the end of the sentence, like he’s an 11th-grade stoner? I can’t imagine how on-edge his team must be every time he holds a microphone,” he said.
“This isn’t the first time Sleepy Joe has forgotten that a friend is deceased,” Macpherson continued. “Last year, he called on politician Jackie Walorski to identify herself at a conference one month after she died in a car accident.”
“A White House spokesperson said Biden misspoke because Walorski had been ‘top of mind.’ I guess the queen must have been ‘top of mind,’ too,” he said facetiously.
“America used to be exemplary, a model others sought to follow. They’re now a laughingstock. And worse? They did it to themselves, man,” the Sky News host concluded.
While Macpherson’s monologue is funny, we are not talking here about an uncle we see every Thanksgiving who everyone knows isn’t “all there.”
From the word salads to the entirely bizarre comments, the inappropriate touching, the lack of balance, and the growing mental confusion, it has become evident to most Americans for a while now that the current resident of the White House is suffering from more than a little cognitive decline.

But when foreign correspondents start commenting on the dementia of the president of the greatest country on earth, it’s no laughing matter.
Macpherson wasn’t the only foreign media personality mocking the U.S. president for his latest bizarre comment.
Nile Gardiner, a former aide to the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, shared the “God save the queen, man” video on Twitter and said, “Joe Biden fully in charge of his faculties.”
While the teasing and mockery from our allies are humiliating enough, what we cannot see is the damage this show of weakness and confusion is doing among our enemies.
Countries such as China have no respect for weakness, and it is very plausible that behind closed doors, they see Biden’s weak and confused appearance as more than a time to mock — they see it as a time to act.
“A government-approved or facilitated censorship regime poses a grave threat to the First Amendment and Americans’ civil liberties,” Rep. Jim Jordan said.
Hunter Biden, whom President Joe Biden claimed is the “smartest guy” he knows, deducted tens of thousands of dollars in payments he made to prostitutes and a sex club from his taxes, according to Internal Revenue Service whistleblower testimony released Thursday by the House Ways and Means Committee.
Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) indicated in a press conference Thursday that two IRS whistleblowers have provided evidence of “misconduct and government abuse that is resulting in preferential treatment for the president’s son, Hunter Biden.”
Extra to describing alleged efforts by the Biden administration to intervene in and hinder the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, the whistleblowers further highlighted some of the first son’s apparent improprieties — beyond those acknowledged in the sweetheart deal his attorneys struck with U.S. Attorney David Weiss Tuesday, requiring him only to “plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges of failure to pay in 2017 and 2018.”
The second, unnamed IRS whistleblower detailed in a June 1 interview how the Democratic president’s son allegedly attempted to get tax breaks for his debauched behavior.
“Some of the items that he deducted were personal no-show employees. He deducted payments that were made to who he called his West Coast assistant, but she was essentially a prostitute,” testified the whistleblower, who indicated he had begun investigating Biden “in November of 2018 after reviewing bank reports related to another case. … Those bank reports identified Hunter Biden as paying prostitutes related to a potential prostitution ring.”
The 2018 investigation was apparently an offshoot of an IRS probe into a “foreign-based amateur online pornography platform.”
“He made payments — there’s an $18,000 wire that is made to one of these individuals, and on the wires they say $8,000 in wage and $10,000 in golf — $10K golf club member deposit,” said the whistleblower. “And we know that $10,000 went to pay for a sex club. He went to a sex club, and we’ve talked to the person that owned that sex club, and they confirmed that he was there.”
Shapley, the other whistleblower, also noted in his testimony that in 2018, there “was a $25,000 [payment] to one of his girlfriends and it said, ‘golf membership.’ And then we went out and followed that money it was for a sex club membership in L.A.”
Damon Lawner, the founder of the elite Beverly Hills sex club Snctm, wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post this week that Biden had once been a member.
“Hunter was a member at Snctm and I canceled his membership after 1 party because he’s a scumbag,” wrote Lawner.
Lawner, banned from the club shortly after making this admission, told the Los Angeles Times, “Posting what I did on my Instagram about Hunter was me letting people know that the type of behavior that he exhibited was something that upsets me. … I knew that the consequences could be me not being part of Snctm anymore, but I was willing to take that risk.”
The former club owner told the New York Post that Biden had been kicked out for “grabbing women’s asses” and acting “like a spoiled child,” adding, Hunter Biden is “a really bad guy — not a good person. He’s just not.”
When asked about Lawner’s ban, a spokesman for the club told the Times, “As stated, we neither confirm nor deny the identities of past or present attendees. We uphold a strict code of conduct to protect our members’ safety and privacy, and any infringement leads to a lifetime ban.”
Biden’s $10,000 payment to the club ultimately led to Lawner receiving an IRS subpoena, reported the Post.
Concerning the first son’s various alleged prostitutes, the IRS whistleblower said, “In some situations, they were on payroll, and that was to get them health insurance.”
“There were expenditures for one of — he called it his West Coast assistant, but we knew her to also be in the prostitution world or believed to be in the prostitution world. And he deducted expenses related to her. She relates to the sex club issue. And then there were — and I know that my counsel brought this up earlier. There were some flying people across state lines, paying for their travel, paying for their hotels. They were what we call Mann Act violations,” added the whistleblower.
The Mann Act, also known as the “White-Slave Traffic Act of 1910,” is a sex-trafficking law that criminalizes the transportation of “any woman or girl for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery, or for any other immoral purpose.”
Shapley said, “There were multiple examples of prostitutes that were ordered basically, and we have all the communications between that where he would pay for these prostitutes, would book them a flight where even the flight ticket showed their name. And then he expensed those.”
Shapley suggested that Biden had expensed these contractual dalliances to Owasco P.C., an entity incorporated in 2006 for which he was the director.
Every single Democrat on the House Ways & Means Committee voted this morning to hide the IRS whistleblower testimony and keep it secret.

President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland may face tough questions after Thursday’s release of the testimony of an IRS whistleblower, which was released by the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee.
Republicans released transcripts of two whistleblowers, one of whom said he had seen evidence that Joe Biden was present when his son, Hunter, attempted to pressure a Chinese investor to send them millions of dollars. The whistleblower, IRS Criminal Supervisory Special Agent Gary A. Shapley Jr., also said that the Department of Justice had interfered in the effort to investigate Hunter Biden for tax crimes — contrary to Garland’s claims.
Though the mainstream media largely ignored the revelations, they prompt several questions that will, in some way or another, have to be answered by Garland — and perhaps Biden, too, if only on the campaign trail.
An exclusive report from Politico has uncovered former President Barrack Obama has been holding secretive meetings with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and several other Democrats.
According to the report Obama has held “informal, but lengthy private meetings with groups of next-generation House Democrats.”
The report revealed Obama met with several Democrat lawmakers such as Maxwell Frost of Florida, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Haley Stevens of Michigan and Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey.
The meetings took place at Obama’s Washington D.C .office and ,although specifics of his discussions with the lawmakers were not disclosed , it was reported Obama was using the time to “counsel” the lawmakers.

Former President Barack Obama has hosted a handful of informal, but lengthy private meetings with groups of next-generation House Democrats this spring, I’m told by multiple attendees. The initial session featured the chamber’s new trio of leaders, but he then held subsequent conversations with a range of lawmakers.
Included were progressive members, like Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), as well as more moderate lawmakers, such as Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) and Haley Stevens (D-Mich.).
The gatherings were Obama’s idea, I’m told, and were designed for the now-61-year-old former president to keep current with his party’s rising stars, more than six years after he left office.
Obama’s meetings underscore that even though he has not been in office for over eight years, he is showing no signs of trying to stop calling the shots for the Democrat Party.
The Biden administration is heavily influenced by Obama and his former staff picks.
In 2021, USA Today highlighted Obama’s influence on the Biden admin in an article titled “Biden insists his presidency is not a third Obama term; his staff picks suggest otherwise.”
