And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders. (Deuteronomy 33:12)
Yes, there is no safety like that which comes of dwelling near to God. For His best beloved the Lord can find no surer or safer place. O Lord, let me always abide under Thy shadow, close to Thy wounded side. Nearer and nearer would I come to Thee, my Lord; and when once specially near Thee, I would abide there forever.
What a covering is that which the Lord gives to His chosen! Not a fair roof shall cover him, nor a bomb-proof casement, nor even an angel’s wing, but Jehovah Himself. Nothing can come at us when we are thus covered. This covering the Lord will grant us all the day long, however long the day. Lord, let me abide this day consciously beneath this canopy of love, this pavilion of sovereign power.
Does the third clause mean that the Lord in His temple would dwell among the mountains of Benjamin or that the Lord would be where Benjamin’s burden should be placed, or does it mean that we are borne upon the shoulders of the Eternal? In any case, the Lord is the support and strength of His saints. Lord, let me ever enjoy Thy help, and then my arms will be sufficient for me.

Please open your Bible and read Genesis 1:26-27
“Naturalism” (the belief that the natural world is all there is) would lead us to believe that human beings are nothing more than generic parts in the machine of the universe and on par with dogs, frogs, and logs. Are we special and uniquely blessed by being made in the image of God like the Bible says?
When we ponder God’s creation of humankind, we note that He breathed life into us (Genesis 2:7) and made us “in His own image” (Genesis 1:27). Utterly unique among God’s creation, we have been given a tremendous gift: The capacity to know the glorious God who created us. How unique is the human race among the various galaxies that comprise our universe?
The probability of a planet anywhere in the universe fitting within all 153 parameters [required for life] is approximately 10-194. The maximum possible number of planets in the universe is estimated to be 1022. Thus, less than 1 chance in 10172 (100 thousand trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion) exists that even one such planet would occur anywhere in the universe. (Dr. Hugh Ross, PhD Astrophysics, University of Toronto)
The odds of a planet like ours existing anywhere in the universe, let alone containing life like ours, is infinitesimally small. Science has merely reconfirmed God’s word: We are special.
How awesome that “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Even though we are totally undeserving, God’s mercy is still offered to all those who are willing to repent and accept it.
When you are feeling insignificant, or afraid, or unloved, remember our Lord’s words:
“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:7)
Question: How has God made you utterly unique, even shaping you through tough times, to be who you are today?

Although there are people who don’t enjoy being with us, we know that God actually enjoys our company.
“Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you.” Isaiah 30:18
He is our gentle and humble friend. Matthew 11:29 says,
“Come to me . . . for I am gentle and humble . . .”
Imagine, the King of Kings asks us to come to Him – He loves us and He tells us that He is humble and gentle.
He died for all our sins—past, present and future. John 3:16,
“For God so loves the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Because of His death on the cross for our sins and because of His resurrection, we can walk in the power of His Holy Spirit while on earth and spend in the future — live eternally with Him.
Jesus is bigger than all our problems. We don’t need to worry. He tells us not to worry, but to tell Him about our problems. There is not a thing that confronts us that He can’t fix or give us the strength to go through. In fact, He is able to do more than you and I could ever imagine.
“With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine.” Ephesians 3:20.
He is our shepherd. He knows us and directs us to places that are best for us.
“I say this because I know what I am planning for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future.” Jeremiah 29:11.
He also keeps us from going places which would be harmful.
He listens to us. Not only is God always with us, He listens to us.
“The Lord sees the good people and listens to their prayers” 1 Peter 3:12.
How helpless we would feel if we didn’t have access to Him. Our hearts agree with Simon Peter when he said,
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.” John 6:68.
Many times a day we go to Him for direction, wisdom, answers, peace and comfort. And He always listens.
Father, thank you for opening our eyes and ears so we recognize Your amazing loving care for us. Amen

ABUSE OF POWER: Biden DOJ Fines Elon Musk $350,000 After He REFUSES to Give Them Access to Trump’s Twitter Account
Be very afraid. The US government has turned on its citizens.
This is not the moment to end US aid to Israel
the burgeoning movement to go ahead with it (cutting aid) is rooted in contempt for Israel’s democratically elected government and the majority of its citizens, and as a way to exert pressure on the Jewish state and downgrade the long-term and crucial alliance. That’s why, although I agree that in the long run that Israel will be far better off giving it up, this isn’t the time to do so.
Voters told to ‘come back’ later; ballot scanners stop working in Ohio special election
All ballot scanners at a Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, polling location experienced issues during a special election on Tuesday, according to local reporter Mike Holden with News 5 Cleveland. “This has resulted in people not being able to cast their ballot immediately. So, what they can do in the interim is put their ballots in this orange box, and it will be scanned later. Or they can void the ballot and come back, but people are concerned, and they’re very upset,” Holden explained. “They’re making calls to the Board of Elections right now.”

You can’t protest against Hamas
Clashes between Israelis and Palestinians, whether involving Israeli soldiers or Jewish settlers, are reported quickly and frequently. This is always immediately worth a headline in the foreign media. Of course, Israel always comes off badly, because after all, the “principle” applies that it has conquered “Palestine” and the Palestinian Arabs therefore have the full right to a liberation struggle. When there are clashes or protests within the Palestinian population, however, mostly there is little interest.

“From The Patriot Post (patriotpost.us)”.
“Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories.” —Thomas Jefferson (1781)
| Fellow Patriots, on this day in 1821, Missouri became the 24th state and the first one west of the Mississippi River. It later gained notoriety as the birthplace of our managing editor, Nate Jackson. In today’s news, Harvard is already making an end run around the Supreme Court’s affirmative action ruling. —Mark Alexander |
Republicans find that the message of personal responsibility is harder to sell than Democrats yelling “rights” and “free stuff.”
Nate Jackson

The Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling last year was one of the greatest judicial victories in our nation’s history. But Republicans weren’t ready for the political battle to follow.
That was evident in Ohio Tuesday. Why is that?
Well, as is often the case in American politics, Democrats have a far easier message to bring to voters. “We want to give you stuff and make the other guy pay for it.” Or, as with the subject of this analysis, “We want abortion rights for everyone.” (Read the fine print, and it’ll say “for any and every reason all the way up until birth,” which is true in only seven nations in the world, including China, North Korea, and Vietnam.)
By contrast, Republicans have to explain why personal responsibility works with individual liberty to make for a successful and free Republic. They have to communicate that abortion means taking a life, even if that life was one of the tiny few conceived via a rape or one of many pregnancies that are inconvenient for the mother or simply unwanted by either parent.
And then there’s the fact that Democrats walk in lockstep while Republicans are more akin to a herd of cats.
“Progressives” start every cultural battle, move the goalposts further left, and then rally around the newest, hottest, “right side of history” prize. Republicans are then torn between fighting to conserve what makes logical sense or offering some sort of compromise, if they do anything at all. The disunity compounds the problem. “OK, some of us think abortion is taking a life, but how about we limit it to six weeks? Or 15 weeks? Or a heartbeat? Or viability? Or with a short list of exceptions?”
That’s a far more complicated argument to make.
It was no surprise, then, to see the pro-life side suffer yet another defeat this week. On Tuesday, Ohio voters rejected Issue 1, a constitutional amendment to set a threshold of 60% support for any further constitutional amendments. Seems like a no-brainer given our national Constitution’s even higher threshold for amendment.
Yet because pro-abortion zealots turned it into a proxy for “reproductive rights,” and then outspent pro-lifers roughly 10-1, they were able to rally voters to defeat Issue 1 by a 57-43 margin. That means when Ohio voters consider the Democrats’ abortion amendment this November, it’ll likely pass. “Every individual has a right to make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions,” says their amendment. Viability can be a line for prohibition, but not if a doctor decides abortion is needed “to protect the pregnant patient’s life or health.” That’s an exception wide enough for a Planned Parenthood building.
“Direct democracy does not always produce good outcomes,” opined the editorial board of The Washington Post. That’s most certainly true, except the Post’s editors were talking about Ohio’s 2004 constitutional amendment defining marriage the way it always was in American history: a union between one man and one woman. Or, as they put it, a “same-sex marriage ban.”
Sadly, however, and disagreeable euphemisms notwithstanding, the Post is right about this:
On abortion, every time voters have been given the choice, they have opted to maintain abortion access — in red states (Kansas and Kentucky), purple states (Michigan) and blue states (California and Vermont). Questions of reproductive freedom defined a Wisconsin Supreme Court judicial election this year, boosting a liberal candidate who tilted the balance of power on the court.
That brings us back to our assertion up top about how Democrats always take what sounds like the easier argument. Each time they win a victory by appealing to the worst in humanity, they take courage for more bold moves to the left. They’ll do so again with abortion in 2024, hoping it works as well as it did in 2022.
Personal responsibility is hard. Taking responsibility for the separate human life growing inside a woman’s womb is hard for that woman. Hard things are often also right and very worthwhile things. They’re just really hard to sell politically to people who prefer what they think is the easy way out. That just means pro-lifers need to redouble our efforts to change hearts and minds.
A newly revealed FBI document shows that the bureau’s interest in “radical-traditionalist Catholics” wasn’t limited to a single rogue memo.
Douglas Andrews

A month ago, FBI Director Chris Wray’s congressional testimony was clear: The FBI wasn’t targeting Catholics. Now, though, it seems he was either sleeping at the switch or lying.
On July 12, Wray testified before the House Judiciary Committee that the now-infamous Richmond memo — a document produced in January by the bureau’s Richmond field office exploring “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremism in radical-traditionalist Catholic ideology” and discussed “new mitigation opportunities” therein — was a wacky one-off and wasn’t to be taken seriously. Under questioning from House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, Wray said the memo represented “a single product by a single field office, which, as soon as I found out about it, I was aghast and ordered it withdrawn and removed from FBI systems.”
He was aghast, he tells us, aghast.
As it turns, though, the Richmond memo wasn’t the singularity Wray wanted us to believe it was. As The Daily Signal’s Tyler O’Neil reports, “FBI Director Christopher Wray may have lied under oath concerning the FBI Richmond office’s Jan. 23 memo citing the Southern Poverty Law Center in urging investigation of ‘radical traditional Catholic hate groups,’ Rep. Jim Jordan suggested in a letter sent Wednesday.”
We know what you’re wondering: What on earth is a “radical-traditionalist Catholic,” and why on earth is the ostensibly apolitical FBI taking its investigative cues from the deeply disgraced hard-left scumbags at the SPLC? We’re wondering the same thing. But first things first: back to the supposedly anomalous nature of the Richmond memo, and to Jordan’s suggestion yesterday that the director’s sworn testimony was, ahem, inconsistent with the facts. Here’s the intro paragraph of his letter to Wray:
The Committee on the Judiciary is continuing to conduct oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) assessment of traditional Catholics as potential domestic terrorists. From information recently produced to the Committee, we now know that the FBI relied on information from around the country — including a liaison contact in the FBI’s Portland Field Office and reporting from the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office — to develop its assessment. This new information suggests that the FBI’s use of its law enforcement capabilities to intrude on American’s First Amendment rights is more widespread than initially suspected and reveals inconsistencies with your previous testimony before the Committee. Given this startling new information, we write to request additional information to advance our oversight.
So the director was aghast, and now the chairman is startled. Something’s got to give. One thing that likely won’t give, however, is a perjury rap against Wray. Not that it wouldn’t be both welcomed and warranted, but lying is what folks do in Washington — whether it’s Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden or Merrick Garland or Alejandro Mayorkas or John Brennan or Jim Clapper or Adam Schiff — and no one ever seems to be held to account. So we’re not holding our breath on Wray. But to the extent that Jordan and a handful of intrepid FBI whistleblowers can fully uncover the bureau’s underhandedness and its duplicity, we’re all for it.
And to those who warn us to be careful what we wish for regarding Wray — that he was a Trump appointee, and that if he’s forced out he’ll be replaced by a leftist director of Joe Biden’s choice — we say this: We’d rather have an out-and-out enemy of liberty in charge of the bureau than a smarmy, irresolute, duplicitous, pencil-pushing “Republican” who gives off a phony whiff of centrist credibility to the director’s role. Wray and his predecessors, Comey and McCabe, have wrecked the bureau and destroyed the people’s confidence in it. He deserves to go in disgrace.
Think about it: If it weren’t for the FBI having rigged the 2020 election on behalf of Joe Biden, Donald Trump would be 30 months into his second term, and the world would look a lot different than it does now. So would our southern border. And our streets. And our military. And our energy supply. And our economy.
And, if you’re retired or nearing that age, so would your 401(k).
Perhaps you’re not Catholic. And perhaps you haven’t been paying much attention to the Biden administration’s targeting of devout practitioners of the faith. Perhaps you weren’t overly concerned about the Biden Justice Department’s refusal to hunt down and hold responsible the violent thugs who’ve been torching pro-life outreach centers across the nation. And perhaps you weren’t overly concerned with the FBI’s targeting and making examples of decent, peaceful, law-abiding pro-life protesters such as Mark Houck, who ultimately beat the bureau’s bad rap in court, but who, along with his wife and seven children, went through hell along the way.
Perhaps not. But you should be. First they came for the Catholics, but I wasn’t Catholic, so…
In the end, Chris Wray and his chums on the J. Edgar Hoover building’s seventh floor deserve to be thoroughly exposed for their anti-Catholic bigotry and their anti-Republican bigotry and all the rest of it. The thousands of good and decent patriots among the FBI’s 35,000 employees deserve nothing less.

One will follow the SCOTUS ruling on affirmative action; the other will attempt to implement an end run.
Emmy Griffin

Back in June, the Supreme Court issued a ruling in two important cases: Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and SFFA v. University of North Carolina. The combined cases dealt with the discriminatory practice of affirmative action in favor of black students at the expense of white and Asian students in college admissions.
In a 6-3 ruling, the Court struck down affirmative action, a pernicious form of racial discrimination plaguing the higher education system. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, with Justice Clarence Thomas writing a concurrence. The minority dissent was written by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, and another by Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
Harvard University and the University of North Carolina were left to figure out what to do with their admissions processes, and their approaches couldn’t be more different.
Harvard, of course, decided to try to implement a loophole that was debated and discussed in the majority opinion and Sotomayor’s dissent. Harvard has now unveiled its updated 2024 essay prompts for student admissions, and the school seems bent on circumventing the Court’s ruling. The problematic question is this: “Harvard has long recognized the importance of enrolling a diverse student body. How will the life experiences that shape who you are today enable you to contribute to Harvard?”
It seems that Harvard elected to follow Sotomayor’s dissent to exploit a seeming loophole. However, Roberts addressed this in his majority opinion and even said: “Despite the dissent’s assertion to the contrary, universities may not simply establish through application essays or other means the regime we hold unlawful today. (A dissenting opinion is generally not the best source of legal advice on how to comply with the majority opinion.)”
An institution run and attended by many an elitist, Harvard is under the delusion that this subversion is “resistance” to a law it doesn’t like. How arrogant and racist of Harvard to decide which race is too successful and which needs a helping hand. Administrators want diversity for diversity’s sake, but the true diversity that brings about better higher education is diversity of thought, not of skin color. The two aren’t necessarily correlated, as is demonstrated in institutions like Harvard, which would prefer to have people of all the same political and philosophical leanings attend the university. That is part of the reason it is entrenched in its own racist rut.
UNC, however, opted for a different approach. UNC Chapel Hill — the leader of all the other branches of the UNC family — has unequivocally decided to eliminate discrimination from its admissions and hiring process. The new resolution is as follows: “shall not unlawfully discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, genetic information, or veteran status in its admissions, hiring and contracting.”
UNC Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz stated at a recent board meeting, “I’m confident that we’re taking all the necessary steps to fully comply.” It’s not only the legal thing to do, but the ethical one as well.
This tale of two universities and the way they chose to handle anti-discriminatory admissions and hiring is going to be a testament to the resolve of the new SCOTUS ruling. Will Harvard be sued again for attempting to get around SCOTUS?
Time will tell.
There are ironically high costs for the Biden administration’s green revolution.
Thomas Gallatin

It’s taken long enough, but members of the Leftmedia finally have begun noticing that the promise of an electrically driven future may not quite live up to the morally superior moniker it has been given. In fact, a future where the vast majority of cars Americans drive are electric holds some considerable downsides, especially when it comes to human labor and negative environmental impacts.
Even The Washington Post has begun highlighting several of the genuinely problematic and morally reprehensible aspects of the “green revolution.” In a recent article titled “In scramble for EV metals, health threat to workers often goes unaddressed,” the Post notes the serious health dangers associated with the mining and production of manganese, one of the materials necessary for the production of EV batteries.
These mines and production facilities are located in places such as South Africa and Gabon, where worker protections and safeguards are often secondary as the demand for manganese rises. An increasing number of workers are suffering the negative health effects. The article highlights one former worker who asks: “How long is it going to take until people start realizing what is happening? Another 30 or 40 years? Must we wait until people start dying?”
Another Washington Post article, published this week, is titled “Despite reforms, mining for EV metals in Congo exacts steep cost on workers.” This time, the Post observes that mining cobalt from Congo, the world’s largest producer, comes via dire working conditions often endured by child laborers. Slave labor is also a significant contributing factor in the mining of cobalt.
While noting that “EVs are widely considered crucial to addressing climate change,” the article observes, “Without a full accounting, there is a risk that the green-energy transition could repeat the painful history of earlier industrial revolutions.” Ya think?
However, the reprehensible labor conditions for mining the minerals necessary for making EV batteries are just one of many problems with forcing this green revolution.
It’s painfully ironic that Kamala Harris is busy lying about Florida’s slavery curriculum while the Biden administration is seeking to force more Americans to buy into an industry that relies on slave labor.
While leftists largely ignore the exploitation of those laboring in the mines, Americans are increasingly bearing the economic brunt of Biden’s green revolution, which is being foisted upon the country via the regulatory state and will cost Americans billions of dollars. It’s everything from new CAFE standards that are heavily pushing the market toward EVs to a proposed change to the National Environmental Policy Act that would require all federal agencies to consider climate change for “environmental justice” when evaluating projects.
On top of all this is the fact that the country simply doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to handle a significant increase in EVs. There are not enough charging stations and not enough power being produced to provide for millions more new EVs.
Speaking of power, renewable energy sources cannot even promise to sustain the current power demands of the country, let alone a huge influx of EVs. Ask California.
Will the Leftmedia eventually get around to admitting this reality as well? Or is it too committed to the climate cult to be bothered?
The wall of support for Obama’s intersectional coalition is intimately connected to the Obama persona.
Ben Shapiro

This week, Tablet released a fascinating conversation with historian David Garrow, author of a massive unauthorized biography of former President Barack Obama in his early years titled “Rising Stars.” By all rights, the book should have been a massive hit upon its release in 2017. Instead, it underperformed. The revelations contained therein never hit the mainstream. And that simple fact, in and of itself, demonstrates a simple reality of the modern political era: The entire press apparatus has been dedicated, since at least 2008, to the proposition that Obama had to be protected from all possible damage.
Garrow’s book carried multiple bombshells for Obama. Obama’s first autobiography — the egotist has already written several — “Dreams From My Father” told a story about how he broke up from a white girlfriend in his Chicago years over her failure to understand his desire for racial solidarity with black America. Actually, as Garrow’s book relates, the couple broke up because Obama refused to disown black antisemitism. Furthermore, as the book uncovers, Obama wrote letters to a girlfriend in which he “repeatedly fantasizes about making love to men.”
These are incredible allegations, to say the least. They were reported in the book. But as David Samuels of Tablet observes, the media were shockingly remiss in covering any of these stories: “‘Rising Star’ highlights a remarkable lack of curiosity on the part of mainstream reporters and institutions about a man who almost instantaneously was treated less like a politician and more like the idol of an inter-elite cult.”
That was true in 2008, when the media steadfastly refused to take seriously reports about Obama’s attendance at an openly racist and antisemitic church for two decades. And it’s true in 2023, when the media still refuse to cover the fact that a huge number of President Joe Biden’s closest aides are Obama’s closest political allies. Obama resides in Washington, D.C.; all of the people who made policy for him now make policy for Biden. And yet nobody talks about the Obama influence in the current White House.
All of this is part of a broader pact on the part of every major apparatus in American life to mirror Obama’s perceptions of the world. In Obama’s own mind, he was a world-historical figure; that’s why, in 2010, when he experienced a rather predictable shellacking in a midterm election, he responded by suggesting that his opposition was actually motivated by vicious racism and brutal bigotry. The media mirrored that perspective; so did entertainment; so did tech companies. The immaculate, solid wall of support for Obama’s intersectional coalition is intimately connected to direct allegiance from the movers and shakers toward the Obama persona.
Just as our institutions were shaped for decades beyond JFK’s death by the myth built around him, so our modern institutions will be shaped for decades to come by the myth of Barack Obama. Garrow concludes about Obama: “He has no interest in building the Democratic Party as an institution. I think that’s obvious. And I don’t think he had any truly deep, meaningful policy commitments other than the need to feel and to be perceived as victorious, as triumphant.” But that victory — that triumph — came at the expense of the American people, who were promised a racial conciliator and a man of honor by a media invested in that lie. When the truth materialized and our institutions continued to perpetuate the lie, our institutions collapsed. We live in the era of Barack Obama still.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As evidence of bribery and corruption by the Biden family continues to mount, Democrat lawmakers in the nation’s capital have expressed heavy skepticism, saying they will need a lot more than just eyewitnesses, financial records, audio and video recordings, and admissions of guilt from parties involved for them to believe any of it.
“Nah, I’m not buying it,” said California Congressman Eric Swalwell. “If you’re wanting me to believe President Biden and his family have been involved in a far-reaching money-for-favors scheme for years, you’ll need to show me a lot more than rock-solid, irrefutable evidence. If the Biden family was corrupt, I think I would have heard about it from my Chinese spy girlfriend.”
The Biden administration maintains absolute innocence, despite an ever-growing collection of evidence that would indicate otherwise. “The President and his family have done nothing wrong,” said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who is a woman and also black and also gay. “It’s completely normal for families to enrich themselves by selling political influence to foreign corporations and governments. Any assertion to the contrary is simply Republicans grasping at straws. Also, I will not be taking any more questions regarding bribery allegations.”
As rumors swirled that additional audio recordings of President Biden accepting bribes may soon be released, Democrats continued to brush them off. “I see nothing wrong here,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. “So he’s on tape taking bribes. It’s not like it proves he took bribes or something.”
At publishing time, Republicans in Congress said they were waiting on several more truckloads of evidence before beginning impeachment proceedings.

President Biden will ask Congress to approve an additional $13 billion in security funding for Ukraine later Thursday, a source told The Associated Press.
Biden was widely expected to make a request for additional Ukraine support Thursday afternoon. The Biden administration is also expected to request $12 billion to refill federal disaster relief funds.
If approved, the additional Ukraine funding will set the total U.S. contributions to the country’s war effort at more than $123 billion.
The request comes as many Americans and some members of Congress are becoming more skeptical of large funding grants for Ukraine.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Kames Comer (R-KY) said on Thursday he plans to subpoena members of the Biden family, including Joe and Hunter, in the House investigation into foreign bribery and corruption allegations against the Bidens. Comer made the announcement in an interview with Maria Bartiromo on the Fox Business Network show Mornings with Maria, saying, “This was always going to end with the Bidens coming in front of the committee. We are going to subpoena the family.”

Comer spoke the day after the Oversight Committee released bank records detailing over $20 million in payments to Biden-connected shell companies from foreign oligarchs in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan alongside a report connecting the timing of the payments to meetings and phone calls Joe Biden participated in with those same oligarchs while he was vice president.
Comer said his strategy in investigating the Bidens is to build up evidence that will hold up in court for when he seeks records and testimony from the Biden family, but that effort is being stymied by obstruction, “This is a complicated case, and we’re being obstructed every step of the way by the Department of Justice, by the FBI, by the Secret Service, by the IRS, and by the Biden family attorneys.”
Asked by Maria Bartiromo when he plans to subpoena Joe and Hunter Biden, Comer said the committee wants to speak with about “three or four more (Biden business) associates first” in addition to the recent interview with longtime Hunter Biden friend and former business partner Devon Archer. Comer acknowledged those investigative steps are taking time, but noted his investigation is moving faster than other recent ones like the Durham probe.
Numerous Biden family members received proceeds from Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings according to bank records and Suspicious Activity Reports maintained by the Treasury Department. Comer has said he has not been able to determine what product the Bidens were selling beyond government access and influence and the Joe Biden brand.
Excerpt of Comer speaking about subpoenaing the Biden family:
Complete interview:
Summary of third Biden banking memo released Wednesday by the House Oversight Committee (full memorandum at this link):
Committee Staff is Releasing Payments from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine that Occurred During Joe Biden’s Vice Presidency: The Committee has now identified over $20 million in payments from foreign sources to the Biden family and their business associates.
Hunter Biden and Devon Archer Used Rosemont Seneca Entities to Bring in Millions from Oligarchs in Europe and Asia: Using accounts nominally tied to Devon Archer (but using the familiar “Rosemont Seneca” branding), Hunter Biden received incremental payments originating from foreign sources, attempting to hide the source and size of the payments.
In February 2014, a Russian Oligarch Sent $3.5 Million to a Shell Company Associated with Hunter Biden and Devon Archer: Russian billionaire Yelena Baturina transferred $3.5 million to Rosemont Seneca Thornton, a shell company. Approximately $1 million was transferred to Devon Archer, and the remainder was used to initially fund a new company account, Rosemont Seneca Bohai, which Devon Archer and Hunter Biden used to receive other foreign wires.
In Spring 2014, a Ukrainian Oligarch Placed Archer and Biden on the Burisma Board of Directors and Agreed to Pay them $1 Million Each per Year: Burisma Holdings’ (Burisma) corporate secretary, Vadym Pozharsky, worked on behalf of the Ukrainian oligarch and owner of Burisma, Mykola Zlochevsky. Hunter Biden was initially hired by Burisma to work as counsel for the company, and Pozharsky and Zlochevsky met with Hunter Biden at a conference in Lake Como in Italy where they decided Hunter Biden would work on the board of directors with Devon Archer. Then-Vice President Joe Biden visited Ukraine soon after their first payments. Payments from Burisma for both Devon Archer and Hunter Biden were wired to Rosemont Seneca Bohai. Payments were transmitted in incremental amounts to Hunter Biden’s different bank accounts.
In April 2014, a Kazakhstani Oligarch Wired the Exact Price of Biden’s Sportscar to a Bank Account Used by Archer and Biden: In February 2014, Hunter Biden met with Kenes Rakishev at a Washington, D.C. hotel. Rakishev worked closely with the prime minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Massimov. In April, Rakishev, a Kazakhstani oligarch, wired $142,300 to Rosemont Seneca Bohai. The next day, a payment was made from Rosemont Seneca Bohai for a sportscar for Hunter Biden in the amount of $142,300. Archer and Biden then arranged for Burisma executives to visit Kazakhstan in June 2014 to evaluate a three-way deal among Burisma, a Chinese state-owned company, and the government of Kazakhstan.
Hunter Biden received millions of dollars in payments from Yelena Baturina, Burisma, and Kenes Rakishev. Vice President Biden had dinner with them in the spring of 2014 and 2015 in Washington, D.C.

In the “liberal” New York Times today, I saw an article on “Putin’s forever war” that has the following short synopsis: “Vladimir Putin wants to lead Russians into a civilizational conflict with the West far larger than Ukraine. Will they follow him?”
Is this true? Does Putin truly seek a “civilizational conflict” with the West? One that’s “far larger” than the Ukraine war? It doesn’t seem likely. Russian forces have struggled in Ukraine. Already embroiled in a destructive regional war that’s become somewhat of a quagmire, why would Putin seek to widen it? Is Putin always the aggressor, the bad guy, and the West always the aggrieved party, the good guys, holding back a “red storm rising”? I thought the West won the Cold War more than 30 years ago.

RICHMOND, VA – Americans have hit a new high in credit card debt. The surge means their overall balance shot above $1 trillion for the first time.
While credit card balances are at historic highs, the New York Federal Reserve reports people are generally still paying their bills on time, at least for now. There are currently 70 million more credit card accounts open than before the pandemic, and it’s definitely making an impact on how families choose to spend.
The larger concern is credit cards are increasingly being used to pay down household bills.
Experts say that could be the reason why credit card debt for families nationwide is unprecedented at a record-setting $1 trillion.

One of my readers is an expert at the moral argument, and wrote a number of articles about his experiences talking to non-Christians about it. He comes from a liberal Christian background, so his views and experiences are not the result of growing up in a conservative Christian environment. In the first article, he talks about what theists mean when we say that atheists can’t rationally ground objective morality:
They misunderstand us to be implying that they are immoral people. But this is not at all what we are saying. Since we believe that the moral law is incumbent upon every human, and is woven into the very fabric of our souls, we are not at all surprised to find even atheists dancing to its tune (to mix my metaphors). The fact that atheists very much want to be thought of as good people is only a tacit admission that they understand that there is such a thing as “good” and that it is good to be good. But if morality is merely a human convention, then the most that an atheist can be claiming is that they are morally fashionable.
There’s no moral credit for doing that. In the second article, he talks about whether atheists can “reason” their way to correct moral views, if their conception of reality says that the universe and humans are accidents:
A chance ethical system cannot do the trick if it is true that there are right and wrong answers. If there are indeed objectively right answers to moral questions, then reason is certainly an ally, since it can help us to assess the conditions and marshal our intuitions, but it does not in itself make the answer right. Neither does an ethical system make right answers; it can only (if legitimate) help us to navigate through real passes with real reefs and currents. But you could never say that any ship of history had hit a reef unless you were first willing to admit that things such as ships and reefs actually existed. That’s a very big pill to swallow for anyone committed to a purely material world, where truth and ethics extend no farther than the will and imagination of the biochemical flukes we call “humans.”
In the third article, he takes on the argument by atheists that much of the moral evil in the world is due to theists:
When asking whether a behavior is caused by a belief system it must first be determined if that behavior is consistent with the beliefs in question. For a religion like Christianity there is some hope of doing so, since it is founded upon certain doctrines and is in possession of a guidebook — the Bible — to which one might appeal in making a ruling. For this reason a strong case can be made that most of what is commonly credited to Christianity is actually a violation of its fundamental principles. It is not consistent with Christianity; it is antithetical to it. And if something is inconsistent with a thing it is hard to make a case that it is caused by that thing.
In the fourth article, he talks about how atheists misunderstand the purpose of acting morally in Christianity:
The irony is that Christianity does not even teach that we win heaven by virtue of our good works. In fact, it may be the only religion that explicitly rejects such an idea. For example, Islam actually teaches that our good deeds must outweigh our bad, and Eastern religions teach that we must work our way to enlightenment through various moral and spiritual practices. By contrast, Christianity teaches that we must put aside our futile thoughts of measuring up to God’s perfect standard and throw ourselves upon the mercy of His court. We have but to accept, as spiritual beggars, the provision He has made to cover our sin and win our righteousness in Christ. Good works come as a result of our love and gratitude toward our creator and redeemer; they are not the cause of our redemption. The Christian ideal is to be good for God’s sake, not for the sake of what He can do for us. God is not to be confused with Santa Claus. To think otherwise is to make the mistake that Satan made regarding Job’s motivation for righteous living (Job 1:9-11).
In the fifth article, he talks about whether atheists can rationally ground the claim that they are “good” at morality:
As it turns out, most atheists who like to think of themselves as moral do so with a sense that they are saying something particularly meaningful. The implication is that they have access to moral knowledge that they are committed to put into practice. It is something like saying that you are a good baseball player, which refers to a particular game with known rules and objectives that you skillfully follow. If this is not true, then a moral atheist is just asserting that they follow their own desires; they are saying little more than, “I do what I feel like doing, and whatever I do I call ‘good.’”
It might be a fun activity to read these posts, then find an atheist and ask them whether they are a good person, and what do they mean by “good” and “evil”. Ask them whether they are making free decisions, and how can that be possible if they are just made out of matter. The moral argument is the most accessible argument to discuss with non-Christians.
