Climate emergency? Biden would be ‘basically declaring himself dictator’ | WND

Joe Biden said recently, among other incorrect statements, that he’s “already” declared a national emergency over climate change.

Then he explained that that was done “practically,” not officially.

But the concept of a Joe Biden giving unrestricted orders about the economy, people’s lives and more is causing a high level of concern.

He would be “basically declaring himself a dictator” for environmentalism, explained H. Sterling Burnett, a senior fellow at the Heartland Institute with a focus on climate issues.

He told Just the News, “It gives him tremendous powers, that whole range of authority to dictate things in the economy and people’s actions.”

He continued, “We saw him say, he’d done it… [or] virtually did it. Well, virtually isn’t doing it, but that doesn’t mean he won’t do it in the future because he is talking about it.”

It was just days ago that Biden said in an interview his administration “already” had declared that emergency, and even CNN noted that was “incorrect.”

Burnett told the publication there’s been a “constant drumbeat from environmentalists in the progressive wing of the party to do this.”

But the loud noises actually come from only a few people, and they are the extremists.

“The people really pushing for a climate emergency are the fringe in the party. Everyone thinks that people want them to do something big about climate change, but poll after poll shows” Americans aren’t up to making sacrifices for the ideology, he said.

The report said in 2019 a poll showed one-third of voters unwilling to spend any of their own money fighting climate change. Another 15% would spend only $10 a month.

This year, Pew Research said 54% of U.S. adults call climate change a major threat to the country’s well-being, but that actually was lower than 2020.

The report noted a warning from Tim Steward of U.S. Oil and Gas Association, who said, “If you grant the president’s emergency powers to declare a climate emergency, it’s just like COVID.”

It would allow “vast and unchecked authority to shut down everything from communications to infrastructure.”

Just the News reported that could include ending oil exports and offshore oil and gas leasing, and speeding up the “green transition.”

The report said even the “left-leaning Brennan Center for Justice” warned such powers “provide a ready mechanism for undermining democracy and entrenching political power.”

Everyone Knows Why Joe Biden Used A Pseudonym: Corruption – Conservative Review

It’s not some big mystery. The Bidens were selling access and taking bribes — and not even trying very hard to hide it.

Biden may declare a ‘national climate emergency’ to further the Green New Deal by non-democratic means: ‘Just like COVID’ – Conservative Review

Democrats have had trouble advancing the whole of their radical Green New Deal by democratic means, so they’re now calling upon President Joe Biden to invoke abstract threats and exploit real tragedies to get their way.

Proponents of the climate alarmist legislation that would see the state’s power grow further at the expense of the populace were not placated in the least by the green handouts resultant of last year’s “Inflation Reduction Act,” which authorized well over $600 billion in spending on so-called renewable energy and climate change initiatives.

In July 2022, Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and other leftist senators in the Democratic caucus penned a letter to Biden, stating, “For too long, we have been waiting for a single piece of legislation, and a single Senate vote, to take bold action on our climate crisis. … As a result, we urge you to put us on an emergency footing and aggressively use your executive powers to address the climate crisis.”

Having not yet gotten their way in full, leftists in Washington, D.C., now seek to cite the wildfires in Hawaii — which appear to have been largely resultant of negligence and the vain pursuit of Democrats’ green agenda — as reason enough for Biden to declare a national climate emergency.

Markey, one of the authors of the original Green New Deal resolution, said in a statement to Politico, “The devastation in Maui is a clear sign that the president must declare a climate emergency — now.”

“While FEMA is providing resources to the local heroes on the ground fighting for the lives and livelihoods of Hawaiians, the underlying climate-driven conditions of drought, extreme heat, environmental injustice, and non-resilient infrastructure will remain,” added Markey.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) similarly called for a statist solution to the specter of anthopogenic climate change, stating, “This is a crisis and we need to treat it that way. That starts with President Biden declaring a national climate emergency to unlock vast federal resources and emergency powers to help our communities prepare for and recover from these deadly climate disasters.”

When asked earlier this month by the Weather Network whether he intended to make such a declaration, the 80-year-old president claimed he had done so, “practically speaking.”

Biden, who spent the most recent stretch of the over 365 vacation days he has so far taken as president at a billionaire climate alarmist’s home in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, claimed, “We’ve already done that. … We’ve conserved more land, we’ve moved into rejoining the Paris Climate Accord. We’ve got a $60 billion climate control facility.”

Mark Nevitt, a professor at Emory University’s School of Law, characterized the national climate emergency declaration as a “skeleton key” that “unlocks the door” to other powers, reported The Hill.

The Center for Biological Diversity pushed a report last year entitled, “Legal Guide to Bold Climate Action from President Biden,” which stated that by declaring a climate emergency, Biden could take various drastic actions, such as: halt crude oil exports; stop oil and gas drilling in the outer continental shelf; and restrict international trade and private investment in fossil fuels.

Tim Steward, president of the U.S. Oil and Gas Association, told Just the News, “If you grant the president’s emergency powers to declare a climate emergency, it’s just like COVID.”

Accordingly, Biden would end up with “vast and unchecked authority to shut down everything from communications to infrastructure,” said Steward.

Even some left-leaning analysts worry that such an emergency declaration would leave Biden with new dictatorial powers that would be ripe for abuse.

Elizabeth Goitein, co-director of the Brennan Center for Justice’s Liberty and National Security Program, wrote, “Overbroad emergency powers provide a ready mechanism for undermining democracy and entrenching political power.”

Politico reported that any such executive action to this end would face legal challenges, “including going up against a conservative Supreme Court that has already ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency does not have the broad authority to rein in carbon pollution.”

Extra to the likely illegality of such a usurpation and exercise of power to combat the weather, a Green New Deal by decree could harm Biden’s chances of re-election, given that gas prices would likely skyrocket once again.

Nevertheless, some reportedly suspect he may ultimately make the declaration and soon.

WAYNE ROOT: There is No Other Choice. It’s Either Trump, or Five Terms of Obama | The Gateway Pundit

By Wayne Allyn Root

The indictments of Trump have changed everything. Just as I predicted back in March after the first unimaginable, corrupt Trump indictment based on trumped-up charges in New York.

I said at the time, “There is now no other choice. We all have to stand with Trump. If they take Trump down, we’re all next. All the other GOP candidates will now become meaningless and invisible.”

I was right. Four indictments in the books (and counting), Trump is dominating the GOP presidential field like no one in history.

I’m sure at this point DeSantis, Christie, Nikki Haley and the rest of the invisible GOP field are asking, “What about me? Why isn’t anyone indicting me? What’s wrong with me? Please, please indict me.”

Because these indictments- as awful, sickening and tragic as they are- have propelled Trump to an almost 50-point lead in the GOP primary. And the only real threat to Trump (Ron DeSantis) has disappeared like Patrick Swayze in “Ghost.”

As I reported days ago on my TV show “America’s Top Ten Countdown” on Real America’s Voice TV, the final blow to this GOP field will be the first presidential debate coming up in a few days. Without Trump participating, I predict the ratings will sink to all-time lows.

The presidential aspirations of the rest of the field will be officially over, after Trump dominates ratings with his Twitter interview, and no one watches the actual GOP presidential also-ran debate.

Trump has destroyed two birds with one stone. Without Trump, no one has any interest in watching a traditional, boring political debate. Trump changed all that forever. Politics (like it, or not) is now and forever more, show business.

If you aren’t a showman and entertainer, if you don’t have a bigger-than-life personality, and swagger, if you can’t tell interesting stories, if you bore your own wife and children, you might as well stay home. You have no chance.

Trump changed the whole game. Americans want interesting, colorful, controversial and fun.

But Trump will kill more than just his weak opposition. He will put the final nail in the coffin of Fox News too. This will be the biggest humiliation in history for FNC. A major TV network will lose the ratings battle to an app. Game over. It will be official.

Fox News has been destroyed by Trump and the fumbling, bumbling, clueless, European Murdoch sons. The Murdochs thought Fox News was bigger than Trump. Oops. This tragic miscalculation will be taught in business schools for years to come.

Trump is now bigger than the GOP, RNC and FNC combined…times ten.

Now let’s get into the “WHY.” Why is Trump the only choice? Why has almost every Republican, conservative, patriot and Christian in America come to this same conclusion at once?

First, the indictments. America is now a Banana Republic. Everyone with a brain and an ounce of common sense sees it. We are inches away from becoming Venezuela, Cuba, the old Soviet Union…

Or yes, I’ll say it out loud, Nazi Germany in the 1930’s.

That’s pre-Holocaust for all of you mentally-weak, history-challenged Democrats. In 1930’s Nazi Germany they were not killing Jews. There were no concentration camps.

But they were rigging and stealing elections…silencing dissent…banning and burning books…demonizing the people they hated (Jews)…banning guns…arresting citizens who disagreed with them …and arresting political opponents.

That’s all happening today.

This is a jack-booted, communist thug takeover of the USA. The Trump indictments make that crystal clear. They want Trump tied up in court, or in prison, or disqualified, because they know he is the only thing standing in the way of this full-blown communist takeover. Only Trump can change the trajectory of America.

But there’s a second reason why Trump is the only choice…

Because Biden will not be the candidate in 2024.

Biden is finished. Biden is a failed president. The American people despise him. He makes Jimmy Carter look popular.

Obama is the real President. He is clearly the power behind the throne. He calls all the shots. Biden is his puppet, his frontman. Biden is Obama’s “useful idiot.” Make no mistake- this is the 3rd term of Obama.

Obama knows Biden has out-lived his usefulness. Biden is old, feeble, literally brain-dead with dementia, and getting worse every day. Biden must be replaced before the election.

I’m betting on Michelle Obama as the replacement

You can feel it coming. This move will re-invigorate the Democrat base. It will bring black and brown voters back into the Democrat fold. It energizes young votes and female votes. No one in the GOP, but Trump, has a prayer to beat Michelle Obama.

The celebrity of the Trump brand is the only one that can match the Obama brand.

Electing Michelle would be the 4th and 5th terms of Obama. Michelle is “the new Biden 2.0”- a popular, friendly face and celebrity personality for Obama, the real power behind the throne. Barack Obama would again be the real president- calling the shots.

And that’s game, set, match- the official end of America. The communist takeover will be complete after two more terms of Obama.

Now do you get it? The only choice is Trump. It’s Trump, or it’s five terms of Obama.

Biden Family Attorneys Lobbied Justice Department to Prosecute IRS Whistleblowers Instead of Hunter | The Gateway Pundit

Hunter Biden’s lawyers leaked the entire case file related to the DOJ’s 5-year investigation and it’s a sight to behold.

More shocking news about Hunter Biden’s backroom wheeling and dealing on the sweetheart plea deal has been revealed by The New York Times.

The New York Times and Politico both published leaked documents revealing new information about Hunter Biden’s case and the inner workings at the Justice Department.

According to The New York Times, Hunter Biden’s lawyers lobbied the Justice Department to prosecute the IRS whistleblowers instead of Joe Biden’s criminal son Hunter!

Hunter’s original sweetheart plea deal was derailed by news of the IRS whistleblowers, according to the leaked documents.

“Now, the IRS agents and their Republican allies say they believe the evidence they brought forward, at the precise time they did, played a role in influencing the outcome, a claim senior law enforcement officials dispute,” The Time reported.

Weiss demanded guilty pleas from Hunter on two misdemeanor tax charges just days after explosive insider information about political bias was revealed by IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley.

The Times also revealed Hunter’s lawyers lobbied to have the DOJ prosecute the IRS whistleblowers instead of Hunter.

“While Mr. Biden’s legal team agrees that the IRS agents affected the deal, his lawyers have contended to the Justice Department that by disclosing details about the investigation to Congress, they broke the law and should be prosecuted,” according to The Times.

Jack Hibbs: In the Daze of Deception (Part 2) – Matthew 24:1-4

In part two of this series, Pastor Jack discusses the link between recent reports of unidentified aerial phenomena and advances in artificial intelligence, connecting them to Biblical prophecies of deception in the last days. Jesus’ teachings warn us of the need to stay grounded in scripture to guard against intensifying deceptions as His return nears.

Mann’s Word: HOW CAN GOD BE JUST IF HE THROWS THOSE WHO COULD NOT BELIEVE IN HIM INTO HELL?

Seekers often ask how a loving God can throw unbelievers, who knew no better, into hell. However, there are sound Biblical reasons to believe that hell is largely self-chosen. Many hate God so much that they would rather experience torment than to live in the threatening and exposing light of God, as Jesus indicated:

•    John 3:17–20 “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment [or “condemnation”]: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.”

Instead, the problem is that they do know better but harden their hearts against this knowledge:

•    Romans 1:18–21 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

As a child of 6-7, I would pray to Jesus and received some amazing prayer answers, but when I was 8 years, I realized that we Jews do not pray to Jesus, and I quit praying entirely. Oddly, I grew up hating Jesus because of the antisemitic attacks that I endured.

We even know that we deserve condemnation for rejecting Him:

•    Romans 1:32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

Therefore, we spend our lives trying to prove that we are worthy or by cutting or burning ourselves to accomplish the condemnation we know we deserve. Having paid this price, we derive a moment of peace (stress reduction). However, the sense that there is something terribly the matter with us continues to return:

•    Romans 2:15–16 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness [to their sins], and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse [makes excuses for] them…

We know the truth, but we continue to suppress it—an endless tormenting battle!

Getting old(er) | Reformed Perspective

“Getting older is so tough – I get tired after just a small amount of work or fun.”
“I lost 4 teeth right after I turned 60.”
“I exercised to make my knees feel better and ended up messing up my back.”
“My hip goes out more often than I do!”
“‘Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.’ Hah!”

*****

At my Inter-City Christian High School reunion, we were all wide-eyed with wonder to even try and grasp the fact that it had been 50 years since some of us had seen one another. I was proud of myself for guessing the name of each person accurately, but it did take me a minute. Some of them looked older than I did. Some were in better physical shape. Some had gone through terrible difficulties, diseases, and operations that I wouldn’t even want to imagine.

Yet we all talked about how God has blessed us and brought us through trials throughout all five decades, and how our Christian schooling/Bible curriculum laid a foundation that enabled us to face all that we went through. We praised God together! We thought about Psalm 37:25 that says:

“I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.”

But not everyone was there. My best friend Robin died at age 43 and three other classmates out of our class of 24 have also passed on.

I’ve said it, and so have many of my friends: we don’t like getting older. But someone always counters that sentiment with, “Well, what’s the other option?” We are ready to go to Heaven and live with our Lord. But we also love our spouses, kids, grandkids, and friends. Though we sing about the joy we will know in Heaven, whenever another body part fails us, we head for the doctor and pharmacy for another bottle of “Stay Here.”

God continues to care for us as we age

People fear death, and aging destroys our independent, strong self-image. Every ad promises that a product or experience will make us “feel and look young again.” We are tempted to feel sorry for ourselves when we lose the abilities that we were previously blessed to have. We might even feel ashamed because we cannot carry the same load. It becomes difficult to drive at night, walk very far, get up the stairs, or move furniture. Our weeks fill with frequent medical appointments. We start to experience pain, and we forget names, items, and events. It hurts our pride, and we think or say, “You should have seen me when I was 25!”

There is a tendency to think that the “good old days” were somehow better than now. It seems like our Western world is more sinful – or is it just that the sins are more public now? In Ecclesiastes 7:10 we are reminded: “Say not, ‘Why were the former days better than these?’ For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.”

Those who do not know the Lord Jesus as their Savior must grieve the loss of their youth for they have no God to turn to for comfort, wisdom, or strength. They fear death.

But we need not act like them.

While it’s not enjoyable to be in pain, hospitalized, or extremely tired all the time, our Lord promises, “I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you” (Is. 46:4) and “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength” (Is. 40:29). We have a loving Good Shepherd who takes care of His sheep. We are not alone!

And if we are reading God’s Word and worshipping at a Biblical church, we will know the truth of 2 Corinthians 4:16 where the Apostle Paul encourages us:

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.”

As our bodies become more and more “corrupt,” we are moving towards receiving our “incorruptible” bodies!

How does God want us to view the aged?

In our Western culture, it isn’t popular to regard the aged with honor and respect. It’s no wonder that the elderly (sometimes even Christians) worry that they will become a burden to their families. God knew the sins that we would be prone to, and so He gives us commands to treat the aged with high regard:

  • “Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.” – Job 12:12
  • “You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.” – Lev. 19:32
  • “Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.” – Prov. 23:22
  • “Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.” – 1 Tim. 5:1-2

How does God expect the aged to act?

If one reads the headlines on the magazines near the grocery store checkout counter, a consistent theme expressed is this: you worked hard raising kids and working at your job and taking care of your family all those years – now it’s your turn. It’s time to sit back and relax, or travel, or do what you want and make yourself happy.

The sad news is that too often this call to self-centeredness has been adopted by aging Christian people as well. It’s not wrong to travel or to participate in favorite activities, especially when the daily tasks of parenthood have ended. It’s the attitude that isn’t right. What does God say that the aged (retirees?) should do?

  • “They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green…” – Ps. 92:14
  • “Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.” – Titus 2:2
  • “Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” – Titus 2:3-5
  • “Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.” – Ps. 71:18

Rather than deciding that we have “done our bit,” we should do all that we are still capable of to glorify God and declare His power to the next generations.

Conclusion

When we grow older, God is not finished with us, and we are not finished with our work here. As the Westminster Catechism states it, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” If our purpose in life is to glorify God, then there is nothing that can thwart our purpose in life! Even in difficulties and illness, even in progressively physically falling apart, we can and should glorify God. We can still pray, read or listen to God’s Word, encourage others by phone call or letter/email, teach others, sing praise, give money, perhaps make a meal, or write edifying words. As the Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10:

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’”

We don’t like being weak. But we who know the Lord need not fear! We can take comfort and draw strength from the Heidelberg Catechism Lord’s Day 1 which begins by asking, “What is your only comfort in life and death?” The answer is certainly for the aging as well as the youth who memorize these awesome words:

“That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation.”

GTY Blog Post – No Small Breaches: John MacArthur on Defending and Rebuilding Integrity

Failure is inevitable. No believer can always live up to the standard of Scripture—our remaining flesh and the habits of our former sinful selves inhibit our holiness in this life. But that doesn’t mean we give up—it doesn’t mean we surrender to temptation and impurity.

Who Is “The One Who Endures to the End”? — Matthew 24:13 — Beautiful Christian Life

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning Beautiful Christian Life LLC may get a commission if you decide to make a purchase through its links, at no cost to you.

What did Jesus mean when he said, “But the one who endures to the end will be saved” (Matt. 24:13)? Can Christians lose their salvation at some point in life?

Jesus tells us that there will be those who profess Christ but don’t have new life in the Spirit:

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matt. 7:21)

And Jesus tells us what the Father wills regarding all who believe in him:

“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” (John 6:40)

Having new life in Christ by the Spirit guarantees that one will endure to the end.

All who are regenerated to new life in Christ by the Spirit will endure to the end. The Spirit does not come and go depending on our level of faithfulness (Eph. 1:23-24). Once the Holy Spirit has regenerated you, making you a new creation in Christ, he keeps your life and preserves you forever:

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:5-8)

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. (Eph. 1:13-14)

Salvation is God’s gift entirely. Someone who has new life by the Holy Spirit cannot lose their salvation. Believers did nothing to earn regeneration and there is nothing they can do to become un-regenerated. The Spirit indwells all true believers, and he convicts God’s children of their sin in his sanctifying work. No one will snatch Jesus’ sheep from his hand (John 10:28).

The Westminster Confession of Faith, one of the great confessions of the historic church, states,

They, whom God hath accepted in His Beloved, effectually called, and sanctified by His Spirit, can neither totally nor finally fall away from the state of grace, but shall certainly persevere therein to the end, and be eternally saved. (Phil. 1:6, 2 Pet. 1:10, 1 John 3:9, 1 Pet. 1:5,9) — Westminster Confession of Faith 17.1

Around the throne of Christ, the solace and quiet of the permanent resides without any shadow of change.

To be raised with Christ by faith makes us part of the new creation. It alters our identity, our homeland, our family, and our destiny. Being raised with Jesus means we are strangers and aliens in this age. Our new family is the body of Christ. Our homeland is the Age to Come. The country of our new birth is the world above. We seek the things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father. This is a pursuit of Jesus—to be near him, to see him, to worship him. It is focusing the lens of our hope upon the enthroned Christ.

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. — Colossians 3:1-4

The constant changing of circumstances of our lives injects us with insecurity, fear, anxiety, and instability as the good today may be gone tomorrow. Yet, around the throne of Christ, the solace and quiet of the permanent resides without any shadow of change. The weather of our lives here may be foul or fair, but our true home is found secure in the everlasting peace of Christ in heaven. To seek the things above is to rest in the forever of Christ’s love and glory; it is to let his grace pour into our hearts like rivers of living water from Mount Zion above.

Peace with God and eternal life are found in Christ alone alone.

If you have not already done so, receive Jesus Christ as your Savior today:

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:9-13)

How can doubt and disbelief become transforming faith? A conversation with Alister McGrath | Denison Forum

How the atheist writings of Richard Dawkins led Alister McGrath—and many other intellectuals—to the Christian faith

Dr. Alister McGrath was an atheist when he entered Oxford University to study natural sciences. Through a series of influences he switched to theology and became a Christian. In his new book, Coming to Faith through Dawkins, coauthored with Denis Alexander, McGrath complies twelve essays from fellow scientists, an engineer, a graphic designer, a journalist, and others who were led to question their atheism by reading the work of atheist Dr. Richard Dawkins.

In our conversation, McGrath explains how he and others from around the world admire much of the scientific work of Dawkins. But Dawkins’ sometimes-scathing attacks on religion led them to discover the credibility of Christ and Christianity—and eventually to their personal conversions to faith.

Morning: Psalm 119:1–48

Psalm 119:1–48 (Listen)

Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet

Aleph

119   1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless,
    who walk in the law of the LORD!
  Blessed are those who keep his testimonies,
    who seek him with their whole heart,
  who also do no wrong,
    but walk in his ways!
  You have commanded your precepts
    to be kept diligently.
  Oh that my ways may be steadfast
    in keeping your statutes!
  Then I shall not be put to shame,
    having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
  I will praise you with an upright heart,
    when I learn your righteous rules.2
  I will keep your statutes;
    do not utterly forsake me!

Beth

  How can a young man keep his way pure?
    By guarding it according to your word.
10   With my whole heart I seek you;
    let me not wander from your commandments!
11   I have stored up your word in my heart,
    that I might not sin against you.
12   Blessed are you, O LORD;
    teach me your statutes!
13   With my lips I declare
    all the rules3 of your mouth.
14   In the way of your testimonies I delight
    as much as in all riches.
15   I will meditate on your precepts
    and fix my eyes on your ways.
16   I will delight in your statutes;
    I will not forget your word.

Gimel

17   Deal bountifully with your servant,
    that I may live and keep your word.
18   Open my eyes, that I may behold
    wondrous things out of your law.
19   I am a sojourner on the earth;
    hide not your commandments from me!
20   My soul is consumed with longing
    for your rules4 at all times.
21   You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones,
    who wander from your commandments.
22   Take away from me scorn and contempt,
    for I have kept your testimonies.
23   Even though princes sit plotting against me,
    your servant will meditate on your statutes.
24   Your testimonies are my delight;
    they are my counselors.

Daleth

25   My soul clings to the dust;
    give me life according to your word!
26   When I told of my ways, you answered me;
    teach me your statutes!
27   Make me understand the way of your precepts,
    and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
28   My soul melts away for sorrow;
    strengthen me according to your word!
29   Put false ways far from me
    and graciously teach me your law!
30   I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
    I set your rules before me.
31   I cling to your testimonies, O LORD;
    let me not be put to shame!
32   I will run in the way of your commandments
    when you enlarge my heart!5

He

33   Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes;
    and I will keep it to the end.6
34   Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
    and observe it with my whole heart.
35   Lead me in the path of your commandments,
    for I delight in it.
36   Incline my heart to your testimonies,
    and not to selfish gain!
37   Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
    and give me life in your ways.
38   Confirm to your servant your promise,
    that you may be feared.
39   Turn away the reproach that I dread,
    for your rules are good.
40   Behold, I long for your precepts;
    in your righteousness give me life!

Waw

41   Let your steadfast love come to me, O LORD,
    your salvation according to your promise;
42   then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me,
    for I trust in your word.
43   And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,
    for my hope is in your rules.
44   I will keep your law continually,
    forever and ever,
45   and I shall walk in a wide place,
    for I have sought your precepts.
46   I will also speak of your testimonies before kings
    and shall not be put to shame,
47   for I find my delight in your commandments,
    which I love.
48   I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love,
    and I will meditate on your statutes.

1 Corinthians 3 (Listen)

Divisions in the Church

But I, brothers,1 could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human?

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled2 master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw—13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

16 Do you not know that you3 are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, 23 and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.

August 21 Morning Verse of The Day

Ver. 20.—Thou gavest them also thy good Spirit to instruct them. The “good Spirit” of God is mentioned in Ps. 143:10; and the fact of God’s “instructing and teaching” men in Ps. 32:8. But instruction by God’s Spirit is nowhere else distinctly mentioned in the Old Testament.[1]

20 The “good Spirit” and the “manna” recall Numbers 11. On “their thirst,” see v. 15; Isaiah 21:14; 44:3.[2]

August 21 – Eating the word | Reformed Perspective

“Take and eat it…” – Revelation 10:9

Scripture reading: Revelation 10:8-11Ezekiel 2:1-3:15

I once stood waiting for an elevator, with my Bible in my hand. The man standing next to me, noticing it, broke the silence to say, “Have you ever cut yourself on that thing?” When my mind caught up to his clever wit I smiled and said, “More times than I can count!”

In Revelation 10, John is being called to again prophesy about peoples, nations, tongues and kings (v. 11). But before this call is renewed, he is commanded to take the book from the hand of the angel and eat it. It would be sweet to his mouth but bitter to his stomach.

The prophets were called to eat God’s word before they brought it to others, and we must do the same. We will soon see God’s witnesses, and see that this is nothing less than the confessing church in the world. How do we maintain that distinctive edge which allows us to see the lies of the enemy and proclaim the truth of God? We must learn what it is to eat the Word.

This practice is not always easy. God’s Word is sweet to the mouth, assuring us of God’s love and mercy in Christ, but it can be bitter; we can cut ourselves as God’s Word brings conviction.  Whatever the result, our task doesn’t change. As God’s people living in the last times, we must know where the source of strength lies, and we must eat the Word.

Suggestions for prayer

Lord, help me to love Your Word and study it daily.
