What is God Saying to Us? – Founders Ministries

What is God Saying to Us?

This article was originally published September 2017.

Irma and Harvey may go down as the Bonnie and Clyde of tropical hurricanes. My extended family in Texas suffered great loss from the latter (though all of their lives were spared, by God’s grace), and now my immediate and church family in Florida are preparing for the onslaught of the former, which as I type is a Category 5 and headed straight toward us. So both storms have occupied many of my thoughts the last two weeks.

Understandably, people are trying to make sense of these devastating natural disasters. “What is God saying to us?” is the question of the hour. Many of the responses are less than satisfying. Some are extremely unhelpful. As I have listened to these suggestions, Martin Luther’s wise counsel keeps ringing in my ears; “Let the man who would hear God speak, read holy Scripture.”

That doesn’t mean that God does not speak to us in nature or acts of providence. Psalm 19:1-6 and 119:117 make this clear. I think CS Lewis is correct when he writes in The Problem of Pain,

God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it [pain] is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.

But Luther is also correct in admonishing us to go to Scripture in order to hear from God. To guard against unhelpful speculations what we must do is let Scripture interpret providence.

So, if pain is God’s “megaphone to rouse a deaf world,” what is He saying to us in these recent deadly hurricanes?

In Luke 13:1-5 Jesus answers that question by addressing people who were perplexed over the outbreak of both moral atrocities and natural disasters.

There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

When the tragedy that resulted because of Pilate’s sinful violence was put to Him (1-3), Jesus did not stop with addressing the lessons that moral evil in the world teach those who do not experience it directly, but He goes on to include the lessons that natural disasters teach us, too.

In v. 4 Jesus brings up eighteen people who died because a tower fell on them in Jerusalem. It was probably due to a weather event, like a tornado, or perhaps an earthquake. Whatever the cause, it was a natural disaster. Just like the ones created by Harvey and Irma.

What was God saying in that tragedy? Two things. First, we should not think that those who suffered in it are worse sinners than those who did not suffer. Second, in the wake of the tragedy God calls everyone to repent. “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

This is what God is saying to us in the storms. “Take note of the sudden, horrific suffering that has fallen on those affected, and realize that you are no less deserving of such suffering. The suffering they have experienced is a mere foretaste of the everlasting suffering that awaits all who refuse to repent of sin and return to Me.”

That is what God always says in tragedies. Hurricanes are warnings to us of the eternal judgment yet to come. They are like warning shots fired across the bow of ships that are sailing in rebellion to God. They are calls to repentance—to turn away from our sin to return to our Creator by trusting His Son, the Lord Jesus, for salvation.

Christ is the only safe refuge from the coming Day of Judgment—a day that will make Hurricanes Harvey and Irma seem like arguments on a playground in comparison. Because He has lived a life of perfect righteousness and died a death that fully atones for sin, only those who bow to Him as Lord, who repent of sin and trust Him for eternal life will be saved.

That is what God is saying to us. These storms, together with every other tragedy in life, are calls to repent of sin and trust the Lord Jesus. May the Lord give us ears to hear this message. And may He enable us to help others recognize what He is saying as we let His Word interpret His providence.

Remember Your Creator | Alistair Begg Daily Devotional

“Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth.”

Ecclesiastes 12:1

Not everyone ages at the same rate or in the same way. Some people are full of life well on into their twilight years, while others fade long before their time. But all of us, no matter how young or old, no matter how we feel or how frail we are, are moving one day at a time toward the day that the lights finally go out.

It’s with that end in mind that the author of Ecclesiastes calls us to remember our Creator while we still have time. But when he says “Remember,” he’s not calling us to a mechanical exercise such as recalling irregular English verbs or multiplication tables. The call to remember encourages us to drop every sense of self-sufficiency and to cast ourselves unreservedly on God as our Creator and Sustainer. To “remember your Creator” means to know Him, love Him, and serve Him as your highest joy.

The timeframe in which this exhortation is to be responded to is significant: the writer specifically urges his readers to remember God “in the days of your youth.” If you are no longer young, don’t worry—this may apply to you much more than you think! The Bible is far more flexible concerning youthfulness than we are. Even so, there is no question that those who are younger particularly need to heed these instructions.

We must beware of saying to ourselves, “I’ll get around to the serious stuff when the serious time comes.” This is the serious time! The days will soon come when you will not be able to see as you once saw, hear as you once heard, or walk as you once walked. However fast or slowly, the house of your life is breaking down. How tragic it would be to assume that you can remember your Creator tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, but never today, and then find that there is no more tomorrow. Beware of allowing the best years of your life to pass filled with things that will ultimately prove to be worthless. Remember your Creator while you have the opportunity. And if you feel your best years are already behind you, remember this also: God is able to “restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten” (Joel 2:25). It is better to remember now than to spend eternity with regret.

What Sanctifies Our Offerings? | VCY

And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the Lord. (Leviticus 4:7)

The altar of incense is the place where saints present their prayers and praises; and it is delightful to think of it as sprinkled with the blood of the great sacrifice. This it is which makes all our worship acceptable with Jehovah: He sees the blood of His own Son and therefore accepts our homage.

It is well for us to fix our eyes upon the blood of the one offering for sin. Sin mingles even with our holy things, and our best repentance, faith, prayer, and thanksgiving could not be received of God were it not for the merit of the atoning sacrifice. Many sneer at “the blood”; but to us it is the foundation of comfort and hope. That which is on the horns of the altar is meant to be prominently before our eyes when we draw near to God. The blood gives strength to prayer, and hence it is on the altar’s horns. It is “before the Lord,” and therefore it ought to be before us. It is on the altar before we bring the incense; it is there to sanctify our offerings and gifts.

Come, let us pray with confidence, since the Victim is offered, the merit has been pleaded, the blood is within the veil, and the prayers of believers must be sweet unto the Lord.

Matthew 11:6 Blessed are those who don’t doubt me.

Do you ever feel like God has not lived up to your expectation in some particular circumstance of your life? Perhaps you have believed… yet nothing has happened. When you feel confused and wondering if God has let you down, you have a choice to make.

You can choose to be offended at God’s seeming silence and disinterest and allow doubt to slip into your heart… or… you can choose to believe God loves you with a lavish love and has your best interest at heart… even when things seem to make no sense to you.

Jesus addressed this very thing. In His words to John the Baptist He says what our hearts still need to hear today…

Blessed are those who don’t doubt me.” (Matthew 11:6 The Living Bible)

Times come to all of us when God’s activity in our lives seems to make no sense. We wonder at the circumstances we find ourselves in and we may sometimes even feel abandoned by God. We could easily slip into doubting our great God.

Yet God tells us…

  •     He will never leave us nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5)
  •     He has lavished His great love on us. (1 John 3:1)
  •     He cares about the burdens we carry and invites us to cast them on Him to carry for us.
    (1 Peter 5:7)
  •     He invites us to learn His ways and find rest for our weary and burdened souls.
    (Matthew 11:2)

If your heart is heavy today because you feel confused about what God is doing in your life, know that you have a choice to make.

You can let doubt in Him slip in and permeate your soul… or you can let these truths penetrate your heart. Each will bring its own result. Choose carefully.

Jesus promises you will be blessed when you choose to keep trusting Him even when it seems to make no sense. Ask Him to help you keep your fragile faith intact and leave your hand in His. He will be true to His word and you will be blessed as you trust our faithful God.

Father God, Today I call out and ask You to increase my faith. It feels tattered and worn in the confusion of my present circumstance. Help Your truths to penetrate my heart and my mind. Help me as I choose to trust You, my faithful God. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Choices | Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God.

Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”  Jeremiah 6:16

Taking our little daughter to the ice cream store for a treat was always a challenge. She never could decide which flavor she liked and ask for a sample spoon of each. Once she had sampled all, she would say that she had eaten all the ice cream she wanted.

Life is full of choices especially in this fast paced world where we are all stressed up and don’t know which way to go. There are choices, often conflicting. In this life, we have to make many choices. Some are very important choices. Some are not. Many of our choices are between good and evil. The choices we make, however, determine to a large extent our happiness or our unhappiness, because we have to live with the consequences of our choices.
The best way to make choices is to not make significant ones alone.

“For by wise guidance you will wage war, And in abundance of counselors there is victory.” (Proverbs 24:6)

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” (Proverbs 11:14)

But there is even a better way.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

Be anxious for nothing stands in contrast to worrying which reveal a lack of trust in God’s sovereignty and power. As believers, we need to realize that our confidence in life does not come from ourselves but from the a All Powerful God of the universe. That is why Paul tells us not to worry about anything. If we worry we are basically saying that God cannot handle it. By contrast we are to take everything to God in prayer and His peace will guard our hearts and minds. Believers, who stand firm in Christ, respond to trials and endure hardship with thankful prayer. Here are some prayers to pray for choices in our lives.

Choices allow us to love or not… help us choose love.
Choices allow us to choose right or wrong… help us choose right.
Choices allow us to choose the light or the dark…. help us choose light.
Choices allow us to choose between good and bad… help us choose good.
Choices allow to choose between good and best… help us choose best.

Choices allow us to choose You... help us draw near to YOU.

Built Upon Lies And Spiritual Darkness: The Rise And Fall Of Satan’s Counterfeit Kingdom
But Satan also has a strategy. The heart of his strategy is to blind mankind to the fact that God’s judgment will soon fall upon this world. This denial has a purpose – Satan is using it to prepare the world for his coming attempt to establish the visible, political form of his evil kingdom on earth led by an emissary we refer to as the Antichrist.

Over the last 30 days, USGS has reported that 922 earthquakes, mainly weak ones, have struck in and around Hawaii’s Big Island, a volcanic island home to the Kilauea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai volcanoes. The volume of earthquakes, and a few specific swarm events near the Kilauea Volcano, have captured the attention of USGS’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), who started issuing daily status updates on the volcano earlier this month. 18 of the 922 earthquakes were over a magnitude 3.0 and one was a magnitude 4.3 event.

FBI director lied under oath on targeting Catholics, new memo suggests
On July 12, Wray testified to the House Judiciary Committee that the memo represented “a single product by a single field office, which, as soon as I found out about it, I was aghast and ordered it withdrawn and removed from FBI systems. The less-redacted version of the memo also “explicitly states that FBI Richmond ‘[c]oordinated with’ FBI Portland in preparing the assessment.” “Thus, it appears that both FBI Portland and FBI Los Angeles field offices were involved in or contributed to the creation of FBI’s assessment of traditional Catholics as potential domestic terrorists,”

FEATURED ANALYSIS

Biden Has a Nightmare

The president marked MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech after 60 years, but he distorted reality.

Nate Jackson

Well, Joe Biden’s AI chatbot wrote a Washington Post op-ed for him yesterday. The occasion was the apparent need to use history for a little more race-baiting.

Sixty years ago yesterday, Martin Luther King Jr. stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, and gave his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. Regardless of the complexity surrounding King himself, his eloquent message truly resonated.

As we have said often, Democrats were behind the racial slavery and the Jim Crow regime before King, and they’ve turned his dream into a nightmare ever since, fomenting racial division wherever possible to achieve their own political gain.

In 1964, Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) flatly admitted that his motives behind civil rights and “Great Society” legislation were racially driven: “I’ll have those ni**ers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.”

In 2020, Joe Biden (LGB) declared, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

Clearly, not everything has changed for “progressives.”

So, back to Biden’s op-ed. We’ll spare you a point-by-point rebuttal of every bit of deception regarding his record and his promises, but we’ll instead make some overarching points.

First, as our Mark Alexander sums up, “Democrats have done nothing for blacks but keep them enslaved on their urban poverty plantations, beholden to Democrats as their masters, all while they kill each other in unprecedented numbers.”

Second and specific to Biden’s op-ed, the president notes the division between what he pejoratively calls “trickle-down economics” and Bidenomics. But he deceives about what both of those things mean.

Democratic Socialists like Biden loathe the free market, though they pretend otherwise. They despise a meritocracy where everyone is free to compete and win or lose according to merit. They cringe at MLK’s “dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Instead, Democrats favor Marxist-derived segregation of people into classes — economic, race, or sexual proclivity — and then they pit those classes against one another. Don’t cut taxes across the board, they insist; stick it to “the rich” by taking what they have and giving it to someone else. In private practice, that’s theft. In government, it’s “equity” and “Bidenomics.”

In fact, that last point is Biden’s entire op-ed argument. He points to everything from his own affirmative action hiring to a laundry list of leftist tax-and-spend initiatives that benefit favored classes of people at the expense of others. He skips over the part where that makes everything expensive for everyone.

The dirty little secret is the message Democrats embed in all of this income redistribution: Blacks can’t succeed without Democrats. Insert whatever other “marginalized” “community” Democrats choose, and they repeat the same message. The oppressors and villains of America are keeping constituents down to the point that success isn’t possible without Democrat saviors.

That’s not the American Dream. It’s not Dr. King’s dream. It’s a Democrat nightmare.

Finally, a bonus round. During remarks yesterday about civil rights, Biden added another tall tale to his pantheon of pretentious autobiographical prevarications: “I was able to — literally, not figuratively — talk Strom Thurmond into voting for the Civil Rights Act before he died.” A quick fact-check reveals that the Civil Rights Act passed when Biden was just 21 — nowhere near the Senate and not even yet 76th out of 85 in his law school class. Thurmond died in 2003 at age 100, so yeah, a lot of things happened before he died, just not what Biden claims. Literally.

Haley Made Some Noise

Love her or hate her, this GOP hopeful had a lot of interesting things to say at the first primary debate.

Emmy Griffin

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is seeing a post-debate polling boost. Why? Because she decided to take a more honest tack and speak hard truths to the American people. She didn’t shy away from pointing out that there are difficult problems our country faces and that potential solutions are not without compromise and even potential downsides. In other words, she treated the audience — and, by extension, the American people — like they were adults.

On the topic of abortion, Haley duked it out over whether a federal 15-week abortion ban is something she’d sign if it landed on her hypothetical presidential desk. Haley stood out on this topic in more ways than one. Her position on the subject is one of practicality. As it stands now in the Senate, such a bill is dead in the water. It would need 60 votes. It simply does not have the votes.

She then went on to outline her alternative stance that she has dubbed her “consensus” policy. She advocated for a more incremental push on abortion restrictions based on more universal agreement on the subject. In her own words: “Can’t we all agree that we should ban late-term abortions? Can’t we all agree that we should encourage adoptions? Can’t we all agree that doctors and nurses that don’t believe in abortion shouldn’t have to perform them? Can’t we all agree that contraception should be available? And can’t we all agree that we aren’t going to put a woman in jail or give her the death penalty if she gets an abortion?”

Consensus policies are a good way to start if the ultimate goal is to change hearts and minds toward protecting innocent children. It was that incremental push that finally got Roe v. Wade overturned after nearly 50 years.

The bad news? As Florida Governor Ron DeSantis pointed out, the GOP is contending with a Democrat Party that is so radical on the subject that there may not be a way to actually reach a consensus. The Democrat Party’s stance is to oppose all barriers to “reproductive health for women.”

Haley also talked about government spending. She correctly pointed out that it wasn’t just the Democrats who are spending more money than we have; the Republicans are too. She stated: “Donald Trump added $8 trillion to our debt. Our kids are never going to forgive us for this. At the end of the day, you look at the 2024 budget, Republicans asked for $7.4 billion in earmarks. Democrats asked for $2.8 billion. So you tell me, who are the big spenders? I think it’s time for an accountant in the White House.” Her solution: Fiscal responsibility.

Her most lauded moment of the debate dealt with foreign policy. As a former UN ambassador under President Donald Trump, she understands the intricacies of foreign relations a bit better than most of the primary field. She schooled entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and his theories on how to end the war in Ukraine. Ramaswamy wants Ukraine to end the war (i.e., surrender) and give Russia the contested land, and as president he would then convince the Russians to distance themselves from China.

Haley correctly pointed out that a victory for Russia is a corresponding victory for China. That concession would likely lead to China’s invasion of Taiwan — and probably a direct conflict between the U.S. and China.

She went on to accuse Ramaswamy of abandoning Israel. This particular issue is one that shows Ramaswamy’s lack of understanding of the delicate political dance that goes on in the tumultuous Middle East. It was thanks to Trump’s leadership that the Abraham Accords were signed, bringing a measure of peace to the Middle East. Haley ended her upbraiding of Ramaswamy with the comment, “You have no foreign policy experience, and it shows!”

Finally, her most bold move was actually after the debate in the spin room with Fox News personality Sean Hannity. She pointed out the hard truth that Trump’s path to victory in the general election is a dubious one. Americans are not hungry for a Biden/Trump rematch. For starters, Trump faces the extra hurdle of dealing with the several politically motivated court cases brought by election-tampering Democrats instead of campaigning.

Haley emphasized the importance of a GOP win not only to clean up the corruption in the deep state but also to prevent another Biden/Harris term. Whether you agree or not, she says that will be harder if Trump is the nominee.

Haley already had a lane leading up to the debate by being the only female politician in the race, but her forthright stances during the debate (right and wrong) struck a chord with the viewers. There is still a long road ahead to the primaries, and it’s unlikely that Haley overcomes her faults to win the nomination. Yet in many ways, her straightforward approach can’t help but speak to an American people who value honesty from leaders — a quality seriously lacking in politicians in general.

Executive News Summary

Trump trial set, RIP family entertainment, court dismisses female sorority members’ “anti-trans” lawsuit, and more.

Thomas Gallatin & Jordan Candler

Cross-Examination

  • Trump trial set: U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected Donald Trump’s legal team’s request to move the trial date for his federal charges related to the January 6 Capitol riot back to April 2026. Chutkan instead set the trial date for March 4, 2024, just three months later than the January 2 date requested by special prosecutor Jack Smith. That trial date just happens to be the day before the crucial Super Tuesday primary elections, significantly impairing Trump’s ability to campaign though also handing him a colossal amount of free advertising. This trial date in DC comes mere weeks before Trump is scheduled for his trial in New York over alleged hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels. Then there are two other trials Trump is facing — one in Georgia, and the other being the federal trial related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
  • RIP family entertainment: For the first time in recent memory, Hollywood will release no “G”-rated movies this year. The family-friendly rating long considered a staple production for Hollywood has steadily declined over the last decade, increasingly being replaced with “PG” fare. For example, the “Little Mermaid” remake this year was rated PG, as is the new animated children’s movie “Paw Patrol 2.” Is this indicative of a dearth of family-friendly movies being produced by Hollywood, or is it an increased sensitivity to potentially offensive material?
  • Another one bites the dust: Thanks to San Francisco’s growing crime problem, which the city’s leftist leaders appear dead set on doing nothing to address, another major retailer is closing up shop. After being in the city for the last 35 years, Nordstrom announced that it will be permanently closing its San Francisco store “partially due to the crime in the area,” according to an employee. It’s hard to blame Nordstrom for coming to this decision given the fact that between 2019 and 2022, property crime, including shoplifting, rose by an astounding 57% in downtown San Francisco. Nordstrom joins roughly 40 stores that have closed their operations in the City by the Bay since 2020.
  • Court dismisses female sorority members’ “anti-trans” lawsuit: A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit raised by University of Wyoming members of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma who sought to revoke membership of a male “transgender” student in the girls’ student organization. The sorority members claimed that the man in question engaged in unacceptable behaviors like “voyeuristically peeping on them while they were in intimate situations, and, in at least one occasion, had a visible erection while doing so.” Furthermore, he never really attempted to live or behave like a woman “other than occasionally wearing women’s clothing.” The judge ruled that since the sorority is a private national organization, the court was in no position to usurp its bylaws. At issue is whether the members of the University of Wyoming chapter of the sorority have the right to reject the national organization’s decision to allow “transgender”-identifying individuals. The court says they do not.
  • American Spirit: Fishing for hundreds: On a recent family fishing trip on Lake of the Woods, Minnesota, 14-year-old Connor Halsa hooked what he thought was a big fish. Upon reeling in his catch, he discovered it was no fish at all but a wallet stuffed full of cash — $2,000, to be exact. However, rather than simply pocket the prize catch, Connor immediately decided he needed to give it back to its owner. A business card in the wallet directed him to a farmer by the name of Jim Denney, who the year prior lost his wallet while fishing on the lake. Denney offered to pay Conner for his honesty, but the kid turned it down. Instead, Denney gifted Connor with a custom cooler and treated him and his family to dinner.

Why Young Americans Are Not Taught About Evil

Knowledge of evil inevitably leads directly to rejection of the Left.

Dennis Prager

Most of our schools teach almost nothing of importance, and nothing is more important than the study of good and evil. In the United States today, nearly all schools, from elementary through graduate, concentrate on teaching about racism, sexism, preferred pronouns, homophobia, transphobia, LGBTQIA+, climate change, diversity, equity, inclusiveness and white guilt. In other words, most of our educational institutions, including the most prestigious, do not educate.

Here are a few proofs.

It is almost certain that the great majority of American high school and college students (with the obvious exceptions of Christian students) could not name the Four Gospels (presuming they even know what they are); five of the Ten Commandments (presuming they know what those are); or the names of two Shakespeare plays. Most American students know little about the American Revolution, let alone about the French or Russian Revolutions. The same holds true for the Constitution and every other American founding document. It is doubtful that, other than Washington and Jefferson having owned slaves, American students know anything about these men or could name two other Founders.

When it comes to evil, the ignorance is enormous, often almost total. For example, according to Pew, about half of Americans ages 18-39 cannot identify Auschwitz or any other Nazi death camp. And there is every reason to assume that much fewer than half could identify the Gulag Archipelago (20 million-plus murdered); the Ukrainian forced famine (5 to 6 million murdered in a little over a year); Mao’s Great Leap Forward (about 60 million murdered); or Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge (about one in every four Cambodians murdered).

As noted, almost no one outside of Russia has ever heard of the Russian Civil War, let alone knows anything about it. One reason is that the winners, the communists, had no desire that people know about it. Yet, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica, about 10 million people, the great majority noncombatants, were killed.

Why don’t students know about evil?

The first reason is that nearly all the genocides of the 20th century were committed by communists, and the Left, which runs virtually all educational institutions, has always had a soft spot for communism. If people were to recognize that communism has been the greatest source of evil in the modern age in terms of numbers murdered, number of lives destroyed, liberty stolen, and the sheer amount of human suffering inflicted (greater by those metrics than those of the Nazis before they were forcibly stopped), the Left would lose much of its appeal.

Another reason is the foolish notion that people are basically good. This has been a left-wing belief since the French Enlightenment leader Jean-Jacques Rousseau came up with the idea. As he wrote in his book, “On Philosophy, Morality, and Religion,” “Man is a naturally good being, loving justice and order; there is no natural perversity in the human heart… All the vices imputed to the human heart are not natural to it.”

This nonsense had been foreign to the Western mind. Its view of humanity was rooted in the Bible, and neither Bible-based religion — Judaism or Christianity — affirmed the goodness of the human heart. As Genesis states, “The will of man’s heart is evil from his youth,” and the rest of the Bible repeatedly warns us against following our hearts.

However, as the West began to abandon the Bible, including belief in the God of the Bible, Westerners began to believe in man. As Marx put it, “Man is God.” People had no choice. For if there is no God to believe in, one must believe in man — or one has literally nothing to believe in. Therefore, belief in man’s inherent goodness became both psychologically and philosophically necessary.

A third reason follows from the second. With the exception of the mass murder of the Armenians (which was committed by Muslim Turks), the genocides and the other horrors of the 20th century were committed by secular regimes. Given the centrality of secularism to leftism, this fact has been kept from young people. Likewise, the fact that all these genocides were committed by big governments is not taught to young people because big government is also central to left-wing ideology. In other words, a true depiction of the evils of the 20th century would mean the end of the two pillars of left-wing ideology: secularism and big government.

If you want to make a more moral world, you must begin with the study of evil. But, for the reasons enumerated here, the Left is not — and cannot be — interested in fighting real evil. So, the Left fights made-up evils: American systemic racism, transphobia, capitalism, carbon emissions, sexism and former President Donald Trump, to name a few.

This is why young people know almost nothing about evil. The Left doesn’t want them to know about it. Because knowledge of evil inevitably leads directly to rejection of the Left.

AP News Is Bankrolled by the Left

The massive, money-grubbing news agency is now beholden to an array of notoriously left-wing foundations.

Douglas Andrews

More inclusive storytelling.

Does that sound like the sort of thing that should be a priority for any legitimate news organization, much less one as massive, influential, and ostensibly objective as the Associated Press?

It didn’t to us, either, but that’s precisely the idea behind a little-known and deeply troubling multimillion-dollar partnership between the AP and an array of leftist foundations, whereby those foundations bankroll the news agency’s reporters when they write about certain left-wing causes. As The Washington Free Beacon’s Chuck Ross reports:

The news organization last year announced a series of “partnerships” to subsidize reporters covering climate change, race, and democracy. A review of the donor roster shows that the vast majority fund left-wing political causes, while none are supporters of conservative initiatives.

The Ida B. Wells Society, founded by “1619 Project” lightning rod [and founder Nikole] Hannah-Jones, has teamed up with filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s Hearthland Foundation, for example, to foster “more inclusive storytelling” at the Associated Press.

The AP proudly announced its partnership with the Ida B. Wells Foundation in a press release last May: “Inclusive newsrooms benefit from well-trained news leaders equipped with the right skills for significantly addressing the inequalities that, like every aspect of our culture, have impacted journalism through the years,” said AP Vice President and Head of News Audience Amanda Barrett, who along with Deputy Managing Editor Sarah Nordgren was responsible for building the initiative. “The collaboration announced today sets in motion a journalism future we all can be proud of.”

Hmm. Instead of “inclusive” newsrooms and racially biased storytelling, how about focusing on balanced reporting instead? How about focusing on the whole truth instead of a glaringly incomplete version of it? And how about focusing on the inclusion of conservative voices? Or is ideological inclusion not the right kind of inclusion?

As Ross notes, for example, the leftist Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, which recently blasted the Supreme Court for its decision to overturn the pernicious form of racial discrimination known as affirmative action, forked over $500,000 in 2022 to the AP’s “democracy journalism initiative.” And, Ross continues, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, which also happens to fund Planned Parenthood’s promotion of transgender ideology to children, spent $2.5 million on the AP’s climate and education reporting in addition to coughing up $400,000 to the aforementioned democracy journalism initiative.

Nice graft if you can get it.

Given this sort of bankrolling, who thinks the AP is going to play it straight when it comes to matters that are controversial — like, say, race, and climate, and illegal immigration, and politics, and elections?

A few weeks ago, when The New York Times’s house centrist “conservative” David Brooks briefly pondered whether he and his fellow elites were in fact the bad guys in our increasingly fraught left-right divide, he offered this remarkably honest assessment about himself and his fellow elites:

Over the last decades, we’ve taken over whole professions and locked everybody else out. When I began my journalism career in Chicago in the 1980s, there were still some old crusty working-class guys around the newsroom. Now we’re not only a college-dominated profession; we’re an elite-college-dominated profession. Only 0.8 percent of college students graduate from the super-elite 12 schools (the Ivy League colleges, plus Stanford, M.I.T., Duke and the University of Chicago). A 2018 study found that more than 50 percent of the staff writers at the beloved New York Times and The Wall Street Journal attended one of the 29 most elite universities in the nation.

If, as the AP argues, “The glaring and persistent lack of diversity, equity, and belonging across journalism has deeply eroded the credibility of this craft, particularly in the eyes of communities of color,” then newsroom editors need look no further than this confession of rank and exclusive elitism.

Sadly, though, they’re looking in all the wrong places — if they’re looking at all.

As our Nate Jackson noted, Brooks, having momentarily exposed himself and his crooked profession, picked up where he’d left off, writing, “Trump is a monster in the way we’ve all been saying for years and deserves to go to prison.”

Then, as if he hadn’t been paying attention when he typed the previous sentence, he posed the $64,000 $57,600 Bidenflation-adjusted question: “When will we stop behaving in ways that make Trumpism inevitable?”

You tell us, David. You tell us.

Bidenomics: More Food Stamps, Higher Prices

Sadly, it comes as no surprise that families on food stamps got nearly $150 more per month than they should have in 2022.

Michael Swartz

A trip to the grocery store these days is enough to bring on the vapors. While overall inflation has surged 17% in the 30 months since the Biden administration was installed, the price of some common food staples is up much more than that.

While these prices can be cyclical based on the time of year and other factors, such as crop failure, a recent study pointed the finger at another inflationary factor. Despite what some scolds may say, newly minted cultural sensation Oliver Anthony wasn’t so far out of bounds when he sang, “Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of Fudge Rounds.” They’re paying for a bumper crop of them now.

It turns out food stamp spending has rocketed upward thanks to the Biden administration’s end-run around Congress. As the Foundation for Government Accountability’s Jonathan Ingram puts it: “USDA cooked their books to hike food stamp benefits by 27% — the largest permanent increase in program history. And they bypassed Congress to do it.”

The FGA study, which relies heavily on the government’s own statistics, contends that families were getting nearly $150 more per month than they should have during fiscal year 2022. Furthermore, the FGA study contends that changes to the government’s Thrifty Food Plan were enacted outside the bounds of proper procedure. As the study points out:

USDA leadership abandoned the department’s 45-year cost neutrality requirement, violated internal control standards, canceled formal peer-review processes, ignored the department’s chief economist, and forced the reevaluation team to cut corners and ignore best practices to meet (an) accelerated timeline.

Although federal law requires agencies to submit reports on proposed rule changes to Congress and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) before they become effective, USDA withheld this information and unlawfully implemented the change before Congress could review and vote on it. By the time GAO was able to review the matter in July 2022, USDA had already paid out billions of dollars in benefit increases.

Not surprisingly, the official in charge of the food stamp program — the one who rushed through the changes — is a former Clinton administration staffer named Stacy Dean, who spent her time between Democrat administrations cooling her heels at the far-left Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Her “reevaluation” of the Thrifty Food Plan turned out to be that of turning on the financial spigots, and the philosophy she operated under seems to be the age-old one that it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

In this case, though, the damage has already been done to the millions and millions of working- and middle-class Americans who either make too much for food stamps or are too proud to accept them. That “extra” $150 families receive also creates an artificially high budget baseline that, if left unchecked, will ensure billions more dollars are wastefully spent, since few politicians have the stones to make the necessary revisions to the program. (Why do you think these things are left to bureaucrats in the first place?)

Still, the Biden administration and its Democrat allies could easily take care of this. As one of the scribes at Not the Bee put it in his own homespun manner, “Seems like Democrats could do a lot to solve the problem by, I dunno, rolling back government welfare, bolstering self-sufficiency, bringing inflation prices down, and saving a ton of money in the government budget.”

Who can argue with that?

Leftists will always caterwaul about “draconian cuts” to the food stamp program if even the rate of growth is slowed, but slowing down the gravy train Fudge Rounds Express sure seems like a good start to us.

Why Biden and Harris Fear a Newsom vs. DeSantis Debate

Is the California governor running a shadow campaign to usurp Biden or Harris for the Democrat nomination?

Thomas Gallatin

Florida Governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis is working on guidelines for a debate with California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom after DeSantis accepted the challenge offered by Newsom not long ago.

A firm debate date has not been established, as the two sides are currently wrangling over rules. However, if it does end up getting the green light, it will take place sometime in the fall, likely November, and it will be moderated by Sean Hannity of Fox News.

This debate features the governors of two radically different states on polar opposite sides of the political divide. With DeSantis currently seeking the GOP presidential nomination and Newsom apparently positioning himself for the Democrat side of the ticket, it offers the American public a deserved head-to-head governing contrast. But will it happen?

Well, if the current administration has its say, the answer appears to be no.

According to a recent report from NBC News, “Biden advisers bristle at Gavin Newsom’s plan to debate DeSantis.” Moreover, the article’s teaser further notes, “Vice President Kamala Harris’ allies are particularly annoyed by the California governor’s move into the spotlight ahead of a possible 2028 Democratic nomination fight.”

With Biden fading fast — voters view him as too old to be president again, and a majority of Democrat voters desire a different candidate — talk of Biden only serving one term has only increased. Indeed, it has long been Mark Alexander’s contention that Biden will eventually exit stage left in time for Democrats to get their preferred candidate in place to challenge the Republican nominee.

After surviving his recall election last year, Newsom quickly spun the victory into a mandate for his leftist policies. He also looked to expand his appeal by attacking Republican state governors and especially DeSantis. In April, he launched his “Red State Tour” as he sought to make his case before residents of conservative states.

Give this recent history, is it any wonder that Team Biden and especially Team Harris are none too happy with Newsom? While they publicly claim their concern is that Newsom could fail in the debate and therefore elevate DeSantis, such a claim appears disingenuous.

First off, Team Biden is banking on Donald Trump, who is currently leading the GOP field by double digits, being the eventual nominee. Therefore, even if DeSantis should completely humiliate Newsom in a debate, would that really have much of a negative impact on either Biden or Harris? Realistically, the only thing it might do is make DeSantis more of a problem for Trump.

Then again, Newsom is no slouch when it comes to speaking and debating. While he doesn’t have an enviable record to back up his claims about his policies, he is quick-witted — especially when compared to Biden or Harris. Indeed, Newsom could hold his own and come out of the debate looking like the strong progressive standard-bearer Democrat voters are yearning for. Imagine the contrast between a confident, slick-talking Newsom and the dementia-addled Biden or the cackling, empty-headed Harris.

The true fear for Biden and Harris regarding a Newsom vs. DeSantis debate is that Newsom comes out looking better than the two of them. The problem for Newsom is avoiding being branded a coward if he caves to the desires of Team Biden/Harris. Harris went running when DeSantis challenged her to a debate over her false framing of Florida’s black history curriculum. Is Newsom willing to fall on his sword for Harris’s sake?

Rep. Nancy Mace to Joe Biden: “We’re Coming for You” – Says Just One Treasury Suspicious Activity Report for Biden Family Money Laundering Was for “Tens of Millions of Dollars and Then Some, It’s a Staggering Amount of Money” (Video) | The Gateway Pundit

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said on Monday that just one Suspicious Activity Report (SARS) on the Biden family’s finances that she reviewed at the Treasury Department earlier this year involved “tens of millions of dollars and then some.” Mace made the revelation in an interview with America’s Newsroom co-host Dana Perino on the Fox News Channel. Mace also had a warning to Joe Biden on behalf of House Republicans: “We’re coming for you.”

Mace said while she is not allowed to reveal details of the SARS reports, she said the Biden family money laundering schemes involved well over $50 million from overseas sources. Mace said the amount is “staggering.”

Mace told Perino that the House is seeking Biden family bank records, saying they would document the money trail shown in the SARS reports.

“I would say the shock and awe comes from the amount of money laundering that we’re talking about is staggering. And I’ve said this a couple times, the amount of money the Bidens, I believe, benefited from is gonna be over $50 million–$17 million from Ukraine alone, so far. It will be much higher than that overall when we talk about Romania, China, Russia, etc. Just one report in one of the SARS reports–there are 170 of them, plus–was tens of millions of dollars and then some. It’s a staggering amount of money we’re talking about between the Biden family and their business associates and these corrupt countries. It’s, it’s insurmountable, in my opinion, and I am disgusted the mainstream media has not investigated it.”

Mace also said she would like to speak with Viktor Shokin, the Ukrainian prosecutor who was fired by the Ukrainian government under threat by then Vice President Joe Biden in what is alleged to be the payback for a bribe paid by the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma on whose board Joe’s son Hunter Biden sat on. Shokin recently spoke to Fox News and expressed his belief that Joe Biden was bribed by Burisma.

Democrats Aren’t ‘Interfering’ In 2024 Election With Trump Trial, They’re Blatantly Rigging It – Conservative Review

The judge in Trump’s Jan. 6 case didn’t just pick a March 4 trial date at random. The aim is to get Trump off the ballot.

Why Are Retired American Generals So Consistently Wrong? | The Gateway Pundit

The following retired Generals are popping up on cable news channels to offer their “sage” analysis on the war in Ukraine and they all share one thing in common — they are wrong to a staggering degree. I am shocked by their inability to objectively analyze the situation. Instead, they repeat the same propaganda memes — Russian troops are poorly led; Russian troops are conscripts and poorly trained; Russian troops have lousy morale; the Russian Army is brittle and will break under pressure; and Russia is losing.

These are not uneducated men and they demonstrated some measure of competence when given commands of major forces. So why are they so consistently wrong about fundamental facts?

I am pretty sure that all have acknowledged at some point that an attacking force, when confronted with a well entrenched foe, must have air supremacy if that force is to have a snow ball’s chance in Hell of breaching the defensive lines. Yet, you do not have to be cleared for Top Secret intelligence to know that Ukraine’s Air Force has been decimated and is incapable of launching sustained attacks on Russian troop positions.

There also is a lot of happy talk about Ukraine striking Russian lines of communication (LOCs) with HIMARs and Storm Shadow missiles. But there is scant evidence to support this claim. In fact, the opposite is true. It is Russia, not Ukraine, that is striking Ukrainian command and logistics hubs throughout Ukraine on a daily basis. And Ukraine’s air defense has been depleted and cannot stop the nightly barrage.

These generals are either ignorant of Russia’s success in decimating the multitude of attacks launched since the start of the counter offensive on June 5 or they are choosing to lie. I do not see any middle ground. The images of NATO supplied burning tanks, Bradleys, Strikers and Marders are all over the internet. The photos and videos are not generated by Artificial Intelligence, but these Generals ignore that reality.

Ditto for Ukrainian casualties. Social media is filled with photos and videos of massive cemeteries with seemingly endless rows of Ukrainian flags sprouting from freshly dug graves. Hell, even Ukrainian sources admitted the shortage of burial plots compelled Zelensky’s Government to dig up World War II cemeteries and discard the remains of Soviet soldiers in order to make room for the burgeoning number of Ukrainian KIA. This is not secret information. It is easy to find if you know how to do a simple Google search.

Then there is the question of ammunition supplies. Ukraine is running on fumes and has been forced to use 155 mm cluster munitions because the West no longer has the ability to supply the more effective standard 155 mm shell. Even Biden admitted this publicly, yet the collection of retired U.S. Generals refuse to accept that fact and incorporate it into their analysis.

This failure to engage reality helps explain the failures, under the leadership of these men, to achieve a victory in the U.S. military operations in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. None of these men have conducted a combined arms campaign against a peer military force.

Ukraine does not have an endless supply of potential recruits. To the contrary, Ukraine is rounding up teenagers and men over 50, providing them with cursory training and throwing them into a meat grinder. Not one of these Generals concedes that this is crazy and counter productive. Russia, by contrast, has expanded its force and continues to sign up new recruits. These new soldiers are receiving a minimum of six months training before being sent anywhere near a battlefield.

What is going on? Are we are witnessing a debacle built on group think or are these Generals hostages to their economic masters? In other words, lying in order to get paid. I am posting four interviews with Stan McChrystal, Phil Breedlove, Ben Hodges and David Petraeus so that you can decide for yourself. I apologize in advance for subjecting you to this but I think it is important to hear what they say.

Stan McChrystal (US Army retired)

Phillip Breedlove (USAF retired)

Ben Hodges (US Army retired)

David Petaeus (US Army retired)

These four gentlemen sound like Christopher Walken in the iconic “More Cowbell” skit from Saturday Night Live. Just keep doing the same thing repeatedly and hope for a different outcome.

ONLY IN AMERICA: Biden releases $77M to aid illegal immigration

Faced with uncontrolled illegal immigration in the U.S., the administration of President Joe Biden has added fuel to the fire by releasing an additional $77 million to 53 non-government organizations (NGOs) and cities in federal grants as assistance for sheltering border crossers and illegal aliens released into their communities.

The announcement was made earlier by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. According to John Binder of Breitbart News, the recipients include NGOs like the Catholic Charities, United Way, Mission: Border Hope, and Louisiana Advocates for Immigrants in Detention, which depend on illegal immigration to maintain their operations.

Sanctuary cities, such as Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Albuquerque and New York are also recipients of millions in taxpayer money through this program.

In sum, DHS has currently sent over $770 million to NGOs and sanctuary cities for their efforts to facilitate illegal immigration.

A New Covid ‘Variant’…Just in Time for Election Season!

Article Image
 • Ron Paul Institute – Ron Paul

Just four and a half months since President Biden declared an end to the Covid “emergency,” the media is suddenly full of stories about the return of Covid. This time a new “variant” is being rolled out and the media, in collusion with big Pharma and the fear-industrial complex, are churning out stories about how forced masking is making a comeback.

Also, the “unvaccinated” are again to be denied basic human rights in the name of fighting a virus that the vaccine demonstrably does not protect against.

In short, they are desperately trying to revive the tyranny, insanity, and utter irrationality of the two-year Covid scare. And they are pretending none of us remembers how they destroyed society with their lockdowns, mask mandates, and vaccine mandates. They are hoping that none of us will remember the suicides, lost jobs, broken marriages, increased alcoholism and drug abuse, and the rest of what went along with the world’s experiment with global lockdown.

Even Fauci himself is back – like a moth drawn to the light of publicity. Despite all the scientific evidence that the lockdowns were a disaster, that they did far more harm than good, Fauci has re-emerged with his trademark arrogance and claimed that they were the right thing to do and should be done again if that’s what it takes to force people to take the vaccine. A vaccine that does not work.

Trilateral Commission: 2023 is Year 1 of New World Order

Article Image
 • The Burning Platform

The Trilateral Commission is a private group of elites formed in 1973 by David Rockefeller to discuss control of Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region. Membership is invitation only and their meetings are shrouded in secrecy. Takeshi Niinami, Meghan O’Sullivan, and Axel Weber are the three chairs of the organization. Although the members of this organization are not household names, they are very powerful decision-makers – the elite appointed by the dollar.

In leaked notes from a conference held earlier in the year, one speaker has declared that 2023 is year 1 of the New World Order. “Three decades of globalization — defined as integrated, free-market based and deflationary — has been replaced by what will be a multidecade period of globalization defined as fragmented, not-free-market-based but industrial-policy based and structurally inflationary. This year, 2023, is Year One of this new global order.”

TGP EXCLUSIVE: Unearthed Email Reveals Hunter Biden Was Notified of Official Government Call Between Poroshenko and Joe Biden in Message Sent to “Robert L. Peters” – Proves Bidens Were Secretly Working Family Business Deals Together While Joe was VP | The Gateway Pundit

On May 26, 2016, Hunter Biden was included in an email regarding Joe Biden’s upcoming call with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

The call was scheduled for 9 AM on May 27, with an 8:45 advanced prep.

Joe Biden has repeatedly denied he had any involvement with Hunter Biden’s business deals.  And, yet, here we have proof that Hunter and Joe Biden were included on the same email about an upcoming phone call with the Ukrainian president.

House Oversight Committee Chairman previously reported on two emails sent from Biden-aide John Flynn to then Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden on May 27, 2016 and June 15, 2016.

This email released today by The Gateway Pundit is from May 26, 2016 and was sent to Joe Biden’s secret email account.

The email was sent to Joe Biden’s secret account where he used the pseudonym “Robert L. Peters.”

Via XRVision.

The call took place on May 27 with Joe Biden.

The readout to the official government call on May 27, 2016, was published on the Barack Obama White House website.

This email came from Hunter Biden’s laptop computer that he abandoned at a Delaware computer shop via XRVision.

This interaction confirms that:
** Joe Biden and Hunter Biden were working together in their international bribery scheme and illicit business deals in Ukraine.
** Joe Biden lied about not having any involvement in Hunter Biden’s business deals.
** Joe Biden was hiding these communications from the public and government watchdogs.

This should make it easy for the Republicans to push for charges against the Biden family.

Border Patrol in Texas and Arizona Swamped With Illegal Aliens; Reporter: “Absolutely Overwhelmed and Cannot Patrol the Border” | The Gateway Pundit

NewsNation reporter Ali Bradley posted on Tuesday that the Border Patrol is being overwhelmed with illegal aliens such that they cannot patrol the border because of having to process and care for so many migrants.

“#BREAKING DHS sources confirm there are more than 20k migrants in CBP custody right now—Most of the sectors are exceeding capacity—The El Paso Sector is leading with more than 4,500 people in facilities there. Agents in the Tucson Sector say they are absolutely overwhelmed and cannot patrol the border because they are busy transporting/processing hundreds of people— 1,454 crossed yesterday—Sources say a group of 400+ migrants crossed this morning in Lukeville, Arizona.”

Lukeville is where the Biden administration recently welded open flood gates in President Trump’s border wall, allowing illegal aliens to flood into the U.S.

Real America’s Voice reporter Anthony Aguero reported this weekend from Lukeville, Arizona on the hundreds of illegal aliens being allowed in each day by the Biden administration, “Lukeville, Arizona international port of entry looks like a county jail house with inmates. All military age males from Congo, Egypt, India, Brazil, Ecuador and Guatemala just to name a few. Very few women. They’re importing an army.
