GTY Blog Post – Heaven’s Perspective on the Cross: Substitute

What was the point of Christ’s death? Depending on whom you ask, you could receive a variety of confused and conflicting answers. Even within the church, many people are inclined to look at the life and death of Jesus through their own skewed perspective of what it means to them.

GTY Blog Post – Heaven’s Perspective on the Cross: Submission

Truth isn’t subjective. That’s an unpopular perspective today, but a vital one—especially when it comes to studying the Bible. Too many people take a self-centered approach with God’s Word. They’re not as interested in what it means as they are in what it means to them.

GTY Blog Post – Heaven’s Perspective on the Cross: Sacrifice

One of the most frequently perverted and abused aspects of the life of Christ is His death. The world can tolerate Him as a human martyr, but that view undermines and ignores the real significance of His death.

GTY Blog Post – Was Jesus Always “Nice”?

Modern writers, agnostic academics, and liberal theologians always stress the kindness and gentleness of Christ. Their Jesus—not the One found in Scripture, but the one concocted from their own imaginations and preferences—is effectively an ideological and theological pacifist. He preached only love and self-sacrifice, never judged or discriminated, and wasn’t dogmatic about the truth. In effect, the Jesus they’ve manufactured pleads “Can’t we all just get along?” with people of all faiths.

The Living & True God – Pastor Patrick Hines Podcast (1 Thessalonians 1:9)

1 Thessalonians 1:9 For they themselves report about us as to the kind of reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God

The Living & True God – Pastor Patrick Hines Podcast

▶️Pastor Patrick Hines has recently had a brand new book published, called, “Earth’s Foundational History – Part 1: Genesis Chapters 1 Through 5.” (Paperback – May 4, 2023) https://cutt.ly/16RCeZ0

From the church website:

We subscribe to the Westminster Standards as our doctrinal statement. It consists of the following documents:

The Westminster Confession of Faith
The Westminster Larger Catechism
The Westminster Shorter Catechism

We also believe that Christian Worship is to be regulated and defined by God’s Word, the Bible.

Our worship services are designed to please and honor the Triune God of the Bible. We place Scripture reading and the preaching of the word of God at the center of worship along with Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These are God’s gifts to His church and ought to always be at the center of Christian worship. We are a congregation that loves to sing God’s praises, recite His Word back to Him, and actively engage in hearing and learning from God’s Word.

We embrace and promote a comprehensive Christian world and life view.

There is no area of life which is not under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is to God and His law which all people, including governments and civil rulers, will answer. The Word of God embraces and informs the way we view marriage, the family, children, education, politics, worship, law, government, war, the church, missions, evangelism, and worship. In the world today there is a battle of opposing worldviews. There are basically only two positions: God’s Word and man’s ideas. We stand positively for Biblical truth and negatively against man’s ideas which are opposed to Biblical truth.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only hope for mankind.

Because all men fall short of obeying God’s law, all men everywhere are in need of divine grace and salvation from God. This salvation is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ who died for sinners, was buried, rose again, and is alive today seated at God the Father’s right hand.

We Worship God Together as Families.

We offer nursery during the morning worship service for newborns and infants but encourage people to keep as many of their children as they can with them for morning worship. The audio of the service is in the nursery via speakers. There is also a crying room with a video screen and audio of the sermon. We offer Sunday school classes for all ages, but worship together as families. We do not offer “children’s” church.

All who profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and are members of an evangelical church are cordially invited to participate with us in the Lord’s Supper.

Doing what God Can Bless | VCY

The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto. Deuteronomy 28:8

If we obey the Lord our God He will bless that which He gives us. Riches are no curse when blessed of the Lord. When men have more than they require for their immediate need and begin to lay up in storehouses, the dry rot of covetousness or the blight of hard-heartedness is apt to follow the accumulation; but with God’s blessing it is not so. Prudence arranges the saving, liberality directs the spending, gratitude maintains consecration, and praise sweetens enjoyment. It is a great mercy to have God’s blessing in one’s iron safe and on one’s banking account.

What a favor is made ours by the last clause! “The Lord shall bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand unto.” We would not put our hand to anything upon which we dare not ask God’s blessing, neither would we go about it without prayer and faith. But what a privilege to be able to look for the Lord’s help in every enterprise! Some talk of a lucky man: the blessing of the Lord is better than luck. The patronage of the great is nothing to the favor of God. Self-reliance is all very well; but the Lord’s blessing is infinitely more than all the fruit of talent, genius, or tact.

“Be filled…with the Holy Spirit and controlled by Him” Ephesians 5:18

An enthusiastic, attractive couple traveled from their home in Chicago to Arrowhead Springs to share with me an idea about which they were very excited.

We heard one of your filmed lectures on ‘How to Be Filled With the Holy Spirit.’  Our lives have been dramatically changed as a result of what you shared,” they said. “We have come all this way to encourage you to go on nationwide television and tell Christians how they can know the fullness and power of the Holy Spirit and experience His revolutionary impact in and through their lives.”

I am humbly grateful to God for the privilege of sharing these great truths concerning the Holy Spirit with tens of millions of people throughout the world, often with the same dramatic results experienced by this remarkable couple.

The disciples were with Jesus for more than three years. They heard Him teach as no man had ever taught. They saw Him perform miracles such as no man had ever performed – raising the dead, restoring sight to the blind and cleansing lepers. Though they were exposed to the most godly life ever lived on earth, during Jesus’ time of crisis, Judas betrayed Him, Peter denied Him and all the others deserted Him.

Jesus knew His disciples were fruitless, quarreling, ambitious, self-centered men, so – on the eve of His crucifixion – He told them,

It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I go, I will send Him to you…He will guide you into all the truth…He shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine, and shall disclose it to you” (John 16:7,13,14 ).

Bible Reading:  Galatians 5:5, 16-18, 22, 23, 25

Action point: Today I will receive by faith the power of the Holy Spirit in order to live a supernatural life and be a supernatural witness. I will continue to study the scriptural reference and various books concerning the Holy Spirit, so that I will better understand His role in my life.

His Will – Exactly! | Daily Devotionals by Thoughts about God.

…I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me…” John 14:30-31

The first time I read the word “exactly” in this passage I prayed, “Really Lord, exactly?” No room for doing my own thing now and then or obeying you most of the time? I felt His reply in my heart: nope.

Jesus completely obeyed His Father all the time and modeled what a relationship with His Father is to be like. Wherever Jesus went, what He spoke and taught, and even the miracles He did, came from His Father. In John 5:30, Jesus said, “By myself I can do nothing…I seek, not to please myself but him who sent me.”

Jesus modeled a posture He wants for all of us — complete obedience to the will of the Father motivated by love. In John 14:1-15, Jesus comforts His disciples and explains that they will continue to have a close relationship with Him after he is gone. Jesus declares that if you love me then you will obey me — not as a legalistic requirement of being His disciple but as an act of love.

Jesus revealed that the Holy Spirit “will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:26b, 27). Exact obedience to the Father keeps us closely relying on His power even though we are tempted to wander and demand our own will.

Father God, I love you and with all of my heart want to obey you without compromise or resistance. Draw me close, give me ears to hear your instructions and obey you. I am completely dependent on you for life, power, strength, guidance, and instructions. Above all else, may my desire be to do your will for your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Media Blames Israel for ‘Hospital’ Attack

A wayward rocket exposes the mainstream media’s bias, and the American president’s shuttle diplomacy falls flat.

Douglas Andrews

You’d think these utterly depraved people, these unrepentant haters of America and Israel, would’ve learned their lesson by now.

But no. The mainstream media proved to be as predictable as ever yesterday, racing to publish a story about how Israel was responsible for the rocket attack on a Gaza hospital on Tuesday that supposedly killed “hundreds” of “Palestinians.” Get a load of the initial reporting from the ardently pro-Hamas, Blame Israel First crowd.

Sanity seems to be settling in, however, albeit not before the initial damage was done. As the Washington Examiner reports, “On Wednesday, the IDF released an intercepted call, which the organization said was between two Hamas operatives, in which they can be heard discussing the claim that the strike was actually a failed PIJ rocket launched from a cemetery behind the hospital.”

A transcript of a recording of some Hamas operatives is telling: “They are saying [the rocket] belongs to Palestinian Islamic Jihad. It’s from us?” says one alleged Hamas member in the recording, while the other responds: “It looks like it. … It misfired and fell on them. … God bless, couldn’t it have found another place to explode?”

A look at the raw footage released initially by the IDF might point to an Israeli Iron Dome shootdown of an enemy rocket, whose fully fueled remains ended up hitting a Gaza hospital.

Or did it hit the hospital? Might it be that the projectile actually hit the parking lot outside the hospital, with none of the nearby buildings sustaining significant structural damage? And might it be that it didn’t actually kill “500” people, as the initial Hamas-distributed propaganda claimed, and which CNN and The New York Times and the rest of the mainstream media and certain Democrat members of Congress dutifully gobbled up and disseminated? That certainly seems to be the case.

Regardless, the fault lies not with Israel but with the launchers of the rocket. Unless you’re a Democrat member of Congress.

“Bombing a hospital is among the gravest of war crimes,” posted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. “The IDF reportedly blowing up one of the few places the injured and wounded can seek medical treatment and shelter during a war is horrific.”

Not to be outdone, Omar’s fellow Squadster, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-Hamas), posted the following lie: “Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that. @POTUS this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire & help de-escalate. Your war and destruction only approach has opened my eyes and many Palestinian Americans and Muslims Americans like me. We will remember where you stood.”

This IDF press conference gives a detailed account of how things actually transpired. At some point, it seems that Omar and Tlaib will have to walk back their libelous statements, but we aren’t holding our breath. In any case, decent Democrats should be tripping over themselves, fighting for access to cameras and microphones in order to denounce the vile behavior of their colleagues.

The photographs of damage being distributed by the IDF are easily and readily verifiable by numerous sources operating satellites over the region. In short, the mainstream media got played, got punked, by the enemies of Israel.

As for President Joe Biden, he’s trying to conduct some shuttle diplomacy, but the rest of the world isn’t cooperating. As Reuters reports: “Jordan has cancelled a summit it was to host in Amman on Wednesday with U.S. President Joe Biden and the Egyptian and Palestinian leaders to discuss Gaza, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said. Safadi said the meeting would be held at a time when the parties could agree to end the ‘war and the massacres against Palestinians,’ blaming Israel with its military campaign for pushing the region to ‘the brink of the abyss.’”

What an embarrassment. It’s yet another blow to American prestige, yet another example of how the world no longer takes our nation’s president seriously. And Biden, the supposed steady hand with all that foreign policy experience, should have known better.

Speaking of embarrassment, Biden wasn’t done. “I was outraged by the bombing of the hospital yesterday,” Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this morning. “Based on what I’ve seen, it was done by the other team. Not you. But there’s a lot of people out there who are not sure.”

A lot of people aren’t sure, eh? And why might that be? Might it be because of the Blame Israel Firsters in the mainstream media?

But while the Fourth Estate plays checkers, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, and Israel continue to play high-stakes chess, and the likelihood that this war will spill out into a wider conflagration grows ever greater. And China — let’s not forget about China and its ailing economy and its designs on “reunification” with Taiwan — watches and waits and plans.

We take no joy in saying it, but this president continues to be overtaken by events. As our Mark Alexander sardonically quipped, “Joe Biden is no Jimmy Carter.”

Executive News Summary

Jim Jordan falls short, Cornell prof “exhilarated” by Hamas attacks, appeasement all around the world, and more.

Nate Jackson & Jordan Candler

Cross-Examination

  • Jordan falls short on first vote: Yesterday, Ohio Republican and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan came up 17 votes short of the necessary 217 he needs to become speaker of the House and get the Republican-controlled legislative body back into business. The 20 GOP votes that went elsewhere included votes for former speaker Kevin McCarthy, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and Lee Zeldin, the former New York congressman and gubernatorial candidate who’s no longer even a House member. Word within the halls is that some of those “No” votes were cast out of bitterness about the way Jordan’s surrogates handled Steve Scalise’s earlier failed candidacy for speaker. “We’re gonna keep going,” said Jordan late Tuesday. “I’ve had great conversations, great discussions with our colleagues. No one in our conference wants to see any type of coalition government with Democrats. … We’re going to get to the votes.” A second floor vote is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET today, and whether Jordan has been able to move his intransigent colleagues into the fold is anyone’s guess — as is what lies next for House leadership should he fall short again.
  • Cotton calls for deportation of Hamas-supporting non-citizens: Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton is calling for the prompt deportation of all non-U.S. citizens taking part in the pro-Hamas rallies on campuses across the country. In a letter sent Monday to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Cotton cited federal immigration law about those who support terrorism being inadmissible to the U.S., including international students studying here. “I write to urge you to immediately deport any foreign national — including and especially any alien on a student visa — that has expressed support for Hamas and its murderous attacks on Israel,” he wrote to Mayorkas. “These fifth-columnists have no place in the United States.” Cotton also noted that while Americans have a First Amendment right to speak freely, that same privilege doesn’t apply to foreign nationals. As for how these individuals might be rounded up, Cotton noted that the FBI was able to identify “every Donald Trump supporter who was within a country mile of Washington, DC, on January 6,” and he suggested that these same techniques, along with the available videotape from the pro-Hamas rallies, could be used by the FBI to identify and deport these pro-terrorism foreigners.
  • Cornell prof “exhilarated” by Hamas attacks: Sometimes it seems that the smartest people are also the dumbest. Academia is rife with this problem, and a Cornell University professor is the latest example. “It was exhilarating. It was energizing,” Russell Rickford, an associate professor of history, told a crowd about Hamas’s gruesome attack on Israel last week. “And if they weren’t exhilarated by this challenge to the monopoly of violence, the shifting of the violence of power, then they would not be human. I was exhilarated.” He got some applause, and the crowd also chanted the anti-Semitic refrain, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” Hamas murdered more than 1,400 people in that “exhilarating” attack, including 30 Americans. The shameless Rickford could use some remedial history.
  • How “secure” is the border? Conservatives who decry Joe Biden’s open-border policies “are suggesting that anyone can get into the U.S. without much hassle,” Axios explains. “But the reality is that the southern border is more fortified than it’s ever been.” That’s a howler! The rest of the report supposedly debunks the open-border “myth” by pointing to record arrests at the border and vastly increased numbers of Border Patrol agents. Besides, Axios tells us, border security and the Border Patrol itself has racist roots tied to the KKK. There’s no mention of the 1.6 million known “gotaways,” or the unknown number who cross without an encounter with law enforcement, or the millions Biden is releasing into the U.S. In other news from the totally secure border, an illegal alien killed two people in separate attacks in Nashville this past week. And Chicago, where the DNC is set to hold its 2024 convention, is so utterly overrun by illegals that Mayor Brandon Johnson had announced a trip to the border. He has since changed his mind and canceled. Maybe that’s because Axios convinced him the border is secure.
  • Appeasement all around the world: Joe Biden appeased Iran before its proxy Hamas attacked Israel. Now he’s appeasing Venezuela. According to The Washington Post, “The Biden administration and the Venezuelan government of President Nicolás Maduro have agreed to a deal in which the United States would ease sanctions on Venezuela’s oil industry and the authoritarian state would allow a competitive, internationally monitored presidential election next year.” While U.S. sanctions have not weakened Maduro’s grip on power, and while Venezuelan refugees are a growing portion of illegal border crossers, appeasement of a strongman isn’t going to advance democracy the way Team Biden no doubt hopes. Maduro has no more intention of holding fair elections than does Biden.

United Nations Is Useless

The U.N. lends legitimacy to ruthless, despotic regimes and even a terrorist organization, Hamas.

Betsy McCaughey

The United Nations is useless.

The United States is pouring more than $12 billion a year of our tax money down the U.N. rathole and squandering a better opportunity.

The dream behind the U.N.‘s founding, to provide an international forum for peaceful cooperation and the prevention of war, doesn’t have to be discarded.

America should lead the democratic nations to establish a new forum and junk the U.N. Those two letters have come to stand for Useless Nations, or worse, Unethical Nations.

The U.N. lends legitimacy to ruthless, despotic regimes and even a terrorist organization, Hamas.

The current crisis in Gaza shows the U.N.’s true colors. For years, the U.N. refused to label Hamas what it is — a terrorist organization like ISIS or Al Qaeda. In 2018, then-U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley sounded the alarm about Hamas’ plans to attack Israeli communities, even alleging evidence of maps and raid plans. Haley urged the terrorist designation, but the U.N. refused to act.

Last week, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Hamas’ terror attack. But Guterres has also aggressively criticized Israel’s impending invasion of Gaza to rout out Hamas.

That’s no surprise. The U.N. has long been biased against Israel and captive of the world’s most despotic regimes.

What is surprising is how President Joe Biden kowtows to the U.N., as if it merits respect. In 2021, soon after entering the White House, Biden told the U.N. General Assembly the U.S. is “back at the table,” pursuing “relentless diplomacy” and embracing globalist goals.

And he came bearing money. The U.S. provides one-fifth of the international organization’s budget, the largest contributor. Biden restored funding for U.N. agencies cut under President Donald Trump, including more than $600 million a year for the pro-Palestinian U.N. Relief and Works Agency.

UNRWA supports the annihilation of Israel. Haley protested that UNRWA “uses American money to feed Palestinian hatred of the Jewish state.” UNRWA pays for printed school materials that teach Palestinian children to kill Jews. Maps for Palestinian children don’t even show Israel as a country.

Apparently, that’s not a problem for the Biden administration.

In its eagerness to be “back at the table,” Team Biden is making the U.S. into a patsy.

Start with COVID. The U.N.‘s own health agency, the World Health Organization, allowed China to wage the biggest cover-up in history. Trump suspended WHO funding, demanding “independence from China.” Biden restored the money on day 1 of his presidency.

For nearly four years, as 7 million people died worldwide, the U.N. watched China block independent researchers from investigating the virus’s origin, almost certainly a leak at the Wuhan lab.

On climate change, the U.N. fleeces wealthy Western countries, while tolerating ever-increasing pollution from China. In March, the U.N. announced wealthier nations — meaning the U.S. — would have to shell out three to six times their current expenditures on global climate action. It’s a heist.

As for human rights, Biden vowed in 2021 that the U.S. rejoin the U.N.’s 47-member Human Rights Council. That’s some aspiration to be in the company of hardened abusers like Cuba and China.

Meanwhile, the powerhouse at the U.N. — the Security Council — is a house of thugs, with Russia and China both holding veto powers. Russia bombs Ukrainian hospitals and kidnaps children with impunity. No wonder Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the U.N. Security Council useless. This is the same council considering a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Haley, now a presidential contender, has long protested the U.N.’s anti-Israel bias and corruption. Hers is a voice of moral clarity. She tweeted, “Hamas is evil & must be eradicated. We must stand with Israel — not just when it is hit, but also when it hits back.”

Ever since the Holocaust, the world has vowed, “Never again.” The U.N. is not up to keeping that promise.

The world needs a new international organization dominated by democratic leaders, instead of thugs and despots. Biden is incapable, but our next president should get it done.

New Evidence Puts the Lie to Biden’s Doc Defense

Multiple White House aides handled and moved the classified material before Biden admitted to having it.

Nate Jackson

Joe Biden is one crooked and dishonest dude, as more and more Americans are realizing. The ongoing saga of his mishandling of classified documents provides yet more evidence.

Just when we thought we’d have to put out a “missing persons” alert for Special Counsel Robert Hur, the man tasked by Attorney General Merrick Garland with investigating Biden’s classified docudrama — and, we expected, to make it go away — out comes a new twist. White House Counsel’s Office spokesperson Ian Sams announced last week that Biden had been interviewed in Hur’s probe. It was a “voluntary interview” and Sams says it proves Biden is “cooperating with this investigation.”

Is he, though?

We were told one of the big differences between Biden’s classified docs case and that of Donald Trump is that Trump obstructed the investigation whereas Biden immediately followed protocol when the documents were discovered. Except that might be yet another Biden lie.

Republicans in the House are continuing to investigate, including for the impeachment inquiry, and there’s an increasing intersection between their probe and Hur’s. In fact, Republicans have requested documents from Hur’s investigation that may relate to the Biden family’s influence-peddling schemes.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer sent a letter to Hur Monday, saying in part, “The Committee seeks to further understand why President Biden retained certain classified documents, if such information related to any of his family’s foreign business interactions, and why so many White House officials were involved in obtaining these materials.”

More on that last part in a minute. First, George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley took to The Hill to explain some of the recent findings.

This week, the House Oversight Committee released a new timeline on the discovery of classified documents in various locations associated with Biden. From the outset, many of us flagged problems with the account that had been given by Biden, who insisted that he had no knowledge or involvement in the removal or use of the documents.

The most glaring problem is that, after they were removed at the end of his term as vice president, the documents were repeatedly moved and divided up. Some were found in the Penn Center office used by Biden in Washington, D.C. Others were found in his garage and reportedly in his library.

The rub, says Turley, is that it now “appears that a critical claim by the White House in the scandal may not only be false, but was knowingly false at the time it was made.” He then works through the evidence. Annie Tomasini, a White House aide and close friend of Hunter Biden, “inspected the classified material on March 18, 2021, two months after Biden took office — nearly 20 months before they were said to be found by the Biden team.” She was one of several White House aides who did so.

Republicans say the White House “omitted” communications and visits that were pertinent to the timeline, which, if true, Turley says “demolishes” the original White House account.

Put another way, while Biden was insisting that his team immediately “did what they should have done,” the truth is that repeated searches were conducted and documents were moved. That includes by Biden’s legal team, which Turley says “may have consolidated material and contaminated the scene by the time FBI agents conducted their searches.”

Call us MAGA extremists, but messing with evidence and lying to investigators sure seems like obstruction of justice to us.

Turley concludes by quoting Special Counsel Jack Smith, who’s investigating Trump. “We have one set of laws in this country, and they apply to everyone,” Smith said. “Nothing more, nothing less.”

AG Garland said the same thing earlier this month: “We do not have one rule for Republicans and another rule for Democrats. We don’t have one rule for foes and another for friends. We don’t have one rule for the powerful and another for the powerless, for the rich or for the poor, or based on ethnicity. We have only one rule, and that one rule [is that we] follow the facts and the law, and we reach the decisions required by the Constitution, and we protect civil liberties.”

The proof is in the pudding. Will Biden face even a tough question from the press, much less real legal accountability? Don’t hold your breath. The evidence is growing that he did the same thing Trump is accused of doing, except that Biden was merely a senator and then vice president when he pilfered the documents. And yes, in more ways than one with Biden, the emphasis is on “vice.”

Jada Pinkett Smith: When Telling Your Story Trumps Decency

The Will and Jada Pinkett Smith marriage drama continues.

Emmy Griffin

Jada Pinkett Smith, longtime wife of actor Will Smith, has only made the news in recent years as a sort of Lady Macbeth figure overseeing the murder of her family’s peace and her husband’s sanity. She has been accused of being an adulterous wife because of her “entanglement” with actor August Alsina, who was a friend and contemporary of her son Jaden. She also has been labeled as the instigator for the slap heard ’round the world at the 2022 Oscars.

Jada’s new autobiography, called Worthy, has placed her right in the spotlight yet again. This book is her opportunity to set the record straight. According to an interview with The New York Times, her confessions and revelations discussed in the book do illuminate the interplay in this Hollywood-style marriage. It also deepens the sentiment that Jada is a deeply troubled woman who resented being the wife of a more successful and beloved Hollywood star.

The book apparently starts out at one of the lowest moments in Jada’s life, just after her 40th birthday. She was contemplating suicide and looking for a good cliff to drive off of to make it look like an accident. Jada has been on the hunt for family and a sense of peace her whole life. Yet she lived her entire life riskily, which is still playing out. The saddest conclusion, though, is that she still is searching. She and Will are separated, though not divorced. She reads the Bible, Bhagavad Gita, and Quran as a daily practice and attributes her salvation to ayahuasca, a psychedelic drug-induced experience that is in vogue for the Hollywood elite.

She paints herself as the ultimate victim with all the disadvantages of growing up the daughter of a teen mom in Baltimore and being the less successful actress wife of Will Smith. What is neglected, particularly in her New York Times interview, is a sense of caring about what her actions were doing to those around her, especially her children.

The three Smith children — Trey (son from Will’s first marriage), Jaden, and Willow — reportedly feel very badly for how Jada’s book is continuing to paint Will as a pathetic figure cuckolded by his pathologically narcissistic wife. They would prefer if their private family struggle remain that: private. But that’s not Jada’s goal. She wrote her book not only to explain her journey but to give “guidance pages” to those who read it.

Jada attributes all the negative press that has been handed her way as typical misogynistic filth from the patriarchy. What she dubs “misogyny” is probably more of an observation that her way of life, marriage, and parenting create misery for those around her, and it is sad she continues to be blinded to that fact.

For his part, Will Smith has turned off his notifications. His only comment was paraphrased from an email to The New York Times: “The memoir, Smith said in an email, kind of woke him up. [Jada] had lived a life more on the edge than he’d realized, and she is more resilient, clever and compassionate than he’d understood. ‘When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life,’ he wrote, ‘a sort of emotional blindness sets in, and you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.’”

Many see this as further proof that Will is continuing to turn a blind eye to Jada’s using their marriage and name to humiliate him. It is that in many ways, but Smith is a product of Hollywood — a confused and clearly broken individual trying like mad to hold his family together. All the while, Jada is declaring that they are in a “good place” and that she is working toward reconciling with him.

The Smiths are yet another clear example of why looking to Hollywood elite for moral clarity and relationship advice is a treacherous idea. They are more confused than many of us and have the money and protection of the Hollywood institution to cover up or justify their misery-creating life choices.

Terrorists Strike Again

We vowed never to forget 9/11, but world terrorism is thriving; this time, let’s get it right.

Jack DeVine

The phone’s persistent ring interrupted our early morning sleep. It was my son, Thom, sounding uncharacteristically abrupt. “Dad, turn on your TV, now.”

That was September 11th, 22 years ago. My wife and I are both native New Yorkers but were then living in California. We flipped on the bedroom TV and were immediately wide awake, transfixed by the live broadcast of the hellscape in the city we knew so well. As we watched, the two World Trade Center towers burned, then collapsed.

The scene was both starkly real and at the same time unbelievable. It dawned on us that we were witnessing something that we never expected to see and did not want to see — a large-scale terrorist attack on our soil, oceans away (we thought) from the world’s trouble spots.

That evening, we witnessed another, wholly unexpected dimension of the sudden, unwanted new reality. At a hastily arranged service at our local Catholic Church in Half Moon Bay, parishioners somberly mourned the loss of thousands of Americans, but other attendees pushed back, opining that our nation’s actions had obviously provoked the attack.

OK, this was California — but how could anyone not discern unspeakable, intolerable, unforgivable evil that we’d all just witnessed?

It turned out that they weren’t the only ones holding that view. Later that week, we watched the chilling video of Howard University students cheering when the towers came tumbling down.

Sadly, world events continue to reveal both the barbarity of terrorism and society’s tangled ambivalence about it. In the intervening years since 9/11, there have been repeated episodes of comparable barbarity, eliciting similarly tangled reaction.

Via modern-day mass media capability, we’ve watched ISIS zealots enthusiastically behead other human beings — those whose offense was disagreement with their killers’ religious beliefs. Civilized nations managed to quell that trend, but terrorism still thrives. Suicide bombings in crowded public settings are a far-too-frequent tactic.

Russia’s attack on neighboring Ukraine, while technically an act of war, was — and is — terrorism. What else do you call firing missiles into apartment buildings, hospitals, schools, and caravans of refugees? When that war erupted, most international spectators were aghast. But after two years, we’re just tired of it — the wholesale brutality continues, but it no longer garners front-page attention, and many Americans are no longer sure that we should continue to provide Ukraine with the funds and weapons needed to resist the onslaught.

And now we’re faced with the horror show of Hamas’s attack on Israel: the specter of a large-scale, well-planned and organized, state-sponsored terrorist attack on unsuspecting victims, to be followed by certain Israeli counterattacks with potentially greater numbers of innocent victims and the very real possibility of escalation and engagement of other combatants.

Imagination can take us only so far. Can Americans who watch these unfolding terrorist events from our safe, comfortable homes even begin to internalize the stark terror of Israelis huddled in their homes as bands of invaders swarm through their neighborhood, breaking down doors in search of victims to shoot, rape, torture, or kidnap?

We vowed never to forget 9/11, but we have not kept that memory close enough to sufficiently influence our nation’s politics and policies. This time, while the Hamas attack on Israel is still front and center, let’s take to heart, once and for all, a few crystal-clear perspectives:

  1. Our world is now very small. There’s no such thing as being far enough or safe enough from terrorist attack.
  2. Peace is not just the absence of active warfare. Our foreign policy objective must not be simply to cajole the combatants into stopping the fight; it must be to eliminate terrorists’ capability to press the attack.
  3. Open borders will ultimately have disastrous consequences. We cannot protect ourselves from those who seek to destroy or displace us — whether for reasons of ideology, political differences, or just envy — without rigorous, constant control of our borders. And don’t lose sight of the reality that some of them are already here.
  4. Robust national defense is imperative. While we wrestle with the world’s current dilemmas, our potential adversaries are watching and waiting.
  5. Much of our political leadership, including elected officials and those who want to be elected officials, seems blissfully unaware of the chaos around us. As of this writing, the congressional GOP majority is leaderless — for no good reason — unable to answer the bell. With a presidential election only 13 months away, both political parties currently seem intent on advancing demonstrably unfit candidates.

In this dangerous world, our very survival hinges on competent leadership. I urge every American voter to look beyond media hype and partisan instincts and consider just one factor in choosing the next American president: Who can navigate our nation through the minefield ahead? Make up your own mind, communicate your views far and wide, and vote accordingly.

There is no way we will deal well with any pandemic in the future and no way we will be able to weave together the infrastructure that we need to deal with climate change if we don’t weave together the 50 states in dealing with healthcare, which means we have to have a universal system of public health.” —HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra

Village Idiot

“The modern GOP would never vote for Jesus. I mean, he was soft on Samaritans and commanded everyone to sell their possessions and give the money to the poor. The guy was clearly a socialist. He was worse than a socialist; he was a Christian.” —”comedian” Stephen Colbert

Grand Delusions

“We have seen no specific indication that another actor or another state is preparing to widen and deepen and escalate this [Israel-Hamas] conflict.” —National Security Council spokesman John Kirby

“I don’t believe that any singular actor wants to see an escalation in violence.” —Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Non Compos Mentis

“What has Hamas done? Hamas has shifted the balance of power. Hamas has punctured the illusion of invincibility. … Hamas has challenged the monopoly of violence. … It was exhilarating! It was exhilarating! It was energizing! And if they weren’t exhilarated by this challenge to the monopoly of violence, by this shifting of the balance of power, then they would not be human. I was exhilarated!” —Cornell professor Russell Rickford

Observations

“Love of country demands that one priorities the protection of country over all others. If refugees hate our country, they should not be brought in because all they will do is seek to destroy the U.S., not seek to build up the country.” —Thomas Gallatin

“Moral equivalence has two purposes. One is to enable the morally confused to hide their confusion. The other is to enable the immoral to hide their immorality.” —Dennis Prager

“The moral problem is not the cycle of violence; it is Palestinian violence. Without violence from Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, there would be no ‘cycle of violence.’” —Dennis Prager

“It is actually quite easy to condemn a terror group. When you see someone invade a territory without provocation, kidnap and then decapitate babies, rape their mothers, put bullets through the heads of elderly bus riders and disappear hundreds of young, innocent Israeli concertgoers, you do not have the luxury of nuance. There is no gray area. These people, these savages, have emerged from the gates of a terrestrial Hell.” —Christine Flowers

“By not speaking out in black-and-white terms, demanding justice only for the Israelis whose blood was shed by those who shed their own humanity, we will be next. They will not come for us with knives, and guns and screams. They will have already annihilated our very souls, and that is the most precious possession of all.” —Christine Flowers

New York Times Patiently Awaiting Call From Hamas To See What They Should Print Today | Babylon Bee

NEW YORK, NY — The staff of the New York Times spent the morning patiently waiting by the computer, waiting for the call from Hamas to see what the terrorists would like to have printed on the front page today.

“No fingers on the keyboard until Hamas calls!” declared Chief Editor Joe Khan. “We don’t send out a single tweet unless we’ve sourced it directly from the terrorists on the ground – understood?”

At long last, the Zoom app began ringing with a phone call from a Hamas spokesman. “Hello! Allahu Ackbar! Okay, what message do you guys want out there?” asked reporter Gene Okerlund. “Yes, yes, I know you want it to say ‘Death to Israel,’ but is there anything more specific you want? Any horrific atrocities you guys perpetrated by accident but want to pin on the Jews? Great! Oh yeah, we can inflate those death tolls. We’ll have the whole Middle East rioting in no time!”

Sources with the newspaper confirmed this has been a longstanding arrangement between the publication and horribly evil terrorist organizations. “We have the highest standards of integrity here at the New York Times,” said Mr. Khan. “If you’re a terrorist, you can rest assured that we will print exactly what you tell us, word for word. No matter how absurd the lie is, no matter if the lie could literally lead to wider war and death – you can count on us to print what you say.”

At publishing time, The New York Times editorial staff was preparing to go with a new front-page story titled “Israel Uses Giant Zionist Space Laser To Kill Eleventy-Billion Palestinian Orphans And Puppies.”

Here’s Israel’s Evidence That an Islamic Jihad Rocket Caused Gaza Hospital Explosion – Conservative Review

JERUSALEM—Israel’s military published on Wednesday evidence that a misfired Palestinian rocket, rather than one of its own munitions, caused an overnight explosion at a Gaza hospital in which hundreds of people died.

Ron Paul: A New House Speaker Won’t Solve The Bigger Problem | ZeroHedge News

Via SchiffGold.com,

The House recently ousted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in the wake of the continuing resolution to keep spending money and avoid a government shutdown. Dissatisfied Republicans frustrated with the GOP’s unwillingness to address the federal spending problem banded together with Democrats to send McCarthy packing.

While the outcome might be politically satisfying to some, it’s not going to solve the underlying problem.

The US government is over $33 trillion in debtThe Biden administration managed to add half a trillion dollars to the debt in just 20 daysA new speaker can’t fix that. As Ron Paul put it, the fundamental issue is rooted in financial and moral bankruptcy.

The following article was originally published by the Ron Paul Institute. The opinions expressed are Dr. Paul’s and don’t necessarily reflect those of Peter Schiff or SchiffGold.

Last week we witnessed a dramatic, historical first: A Speaker of the US House of Representatives was removed from that position by a vote from Members of that body. US Rep. Matt Gaetz was able to gather enough Republicans dissatisfied with the leadership of then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy to send him packing.

What was the last straw? According to Gaetz, it was McCarthy’s secret deal with President Biden and the Democrats to bring up another huge funding package for Ukraine separately if they agreed to support a bill to keep the government open without Ukraine money in it.

Gaetz and his allies were angry that they were kept in the dark about the deal and in the end it only took eight Republican rebels to end McCarthy’s eight months in the Chair.

Several thoughtful Members, including my friend Thomas Massie, made convincing arguments that Republicans removing the Speaker would do little to nothing when looking at the bigger picture of a record US debt, a continuously growing budget deficit, and runaway inflation. It would also, he argued, do little to fix a broken House of Representatives where Members are more interested in showboating than taking a needed chainsaw to the massive yearly Omnibus spending bill that has taken the place of individual funding bills for each part of the Federal government.

When I was in the House we mostly worked under what was called “regular order,” where each individual appropriations bill was brought to the floor and debated sometimes for several days, and with unlimited amendments, before they held a vote. With regular orders, there was at least a chance that Members and staff could actually read the bills and try to make changes. Multi-thousand-page omnibus bills brought to the Floor at the last minute with a demand that they be passed immediately is part of the reason we are up to our eyeballs in debt. They can – and do – sneak everything into them!

Even with the deserved criticism, however, there is still something satisfying about seeing such a shake-up over the issue of foreign interventionism. After a year and a half and more than $100 billion sent by Biden’s neocons for the proxy war with Russia in Ukraine, finally some Members are starting to wake up and say “no” to demands for even more. These wars instigated by neocons from both parties always end in disaster, but not until they produce much suffering in the countries they claim to want to liberate. They also further punish the middle and working class while enriching the wealthy and well-connected in the military-industrial complex. The cost of this latest war will be hidden in the cruelest tax – inflation – which disproportionately hurts the poor.

Will a new Speaker of the House solve our problems? No. Our biggest problem is our financial and moral bankruptcy, which has been brewing for over 100 years since the creation of the Fed and the rise of the Progressive era. But finally, we see Members responding to rising anger among the electorate over the financing of another forever war – this time with a nuclear superpower! Finally, we see members saying “enough” to demand for even more money for the US empire. It’s a good start and we should do all we can to encourage it.

Biden’s Meeting with Netanyahu Called ‘Really Embarrassing’ as He Goes Off-Script and Forgets Quote | The Western Journal.

When President Joe Biden mumbles his way through prepared remarks, the performance often saps listeners’ confidence in him.

Likewise, when the president tries extemporaneous speaking, the results invariably prove calamitous.

At a meeting Wednesday in Israel with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden showcased both of these deficiencies in a display of ineptitude that one commentator called “really embarrassing.”

That embarrassing moment came when the president tried to recall an anecdote. He failed.

“You know, years ago I asked the secretary of state when he and I were working in the Senate to write something for me, and, he said — he wrote a line — that I think is appropriate,” Biden began.

Having raised listeners’ expectations, the president then delivered a dud.

“He said, it’s not — we need — not just — well, I won’t go into it,” Biden said.

Thus, from the time he mentioned it to the moment he attempted to relay it, Biden forget the anecdote.

Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter, journalist Michael Tracey shared a 39-second clip of the president’s brain freeze.

“This is just sad,” Tracey wrote in the post. “Biden tries to quote a line Blinken apparently wrote for him years ago when he was in the Senate, but realizes he can’t remember it and gives up.”

The world has noticed Biden’s cognitive decline.

Greg Swenson, chair of Republicans Overseas, a U.K.-based U.S. expatriate group, appeared on Britain’s GB News and responded to the president’s performance.

“I think what he said today, on the script, was good,” Swenson said in a clip posted to X on Wednesday.

“But when he went off-script, it’s really embarrassing, and I don’t think that gives the Israelis or Netanyahu or Americans great confidence in his leadership ability,” Swenson added.

Even that “script,” the substance of which Swenson praised, could not save Biden from himself. In the end, the president would have been better off staying home.

Through most of the sit-down meeting, Biden stuck to written remarks from notes he held in front of him. Netanyahu did likewise.

Whereas the prime minister projected vigor and spoke with clarity, however, Biden appeared ready for a nap.

For two minutes, the president spoke in a low tone that untrained listeners might mistake for solemnity. In truth, he always sounds that way.

Readers who wish to view both Netanyahu’s and Biden’s remarks may do so here:

Biden’s mental lethargy defies comparisons. Indeed, one racks one’s brain in search of recent world leaders who have exhibited anything comparable.

J.R.R. Tolkein’s “The Lord of the Rings” gave us one such character. Recall King Theoden of Rohan, who languished in weakness, barely able to speak let alone project strength.

Grima Wormtongue, the king’s sinister advisor, schemed on behalf of the evil wizard Saruman to control Theoden and topple Rohan. Eventually, the white wizard Gandalf helped break Saruman’s spell and restore Theoden to his former strength.

We read such stories in part because they remind us of what we despise and what we admire in leaders. In short, we despise all forms of weakness and admire genuine courage.

Alas, in the case of our current president, we have no Wormtongue to blame. Nor can we soon expect a Gandalf who might free us from this “really embarrassing” weakness.
