October 22 Evening Verse of The Day

103:13 A godly father disciplines his child not out of malice, but because he loves him (Heb 12:3–13). The Lord demonstrates mercy and compassion toward his children through forgiveness of sin and blessing, in spite of their weaknesses.[1]

103:13 As a father. The comparison of God to a compassionate and loving father is developed in Rom. 8:12–17. See Ex. 4:22, 23; Hos. 11:1, 8, 9.[2]

103:13 God is a father to his people as a whole (Ex. 4:22–23), and to the particular faithful members (Prov. 3:12). Of course many human fathers fail to embody this idea; this image assumes that biblically informed people have an intuition of what fathers ideally should be like. But it also serves as a goal for faithful fathers: they will seek more and more to be the kind of father who shows compassion to his children.[3]

103:13 — As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him.

How does a father “pity” His children? He considers their weakness, immaturity, and ignorance, and so does not require of them more than they can handle. Our Father does the same with us (1 Cor. 10:13).[4]

13. “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.” To those who truly reverence his holy name, the Lord is a father and acts as such. These he pities, for in the very best of men the Lord sees much to pity, and when they are at their best state they still need his compassion. This should check every propensity to pride, though at the same time it should yield us the richest comfort. Fathers feel for their children, especially when they are in pain, they would like to suffer in their stead, their sighs and groans cut them to the quick: thus sensitive towards us is our heavenly Father. We do not adore a god of stone, but the living God, who is tenderness itself. He is at this moment compassionating us, for the word is in the present tense; his pity never fails to flow, and we never cease to need it.[5]

Ver. 13.—Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him (comp. Deut. 32:6; Job 10:8; Isa. 29:16; 63:16; 64:8, etc.). (For the nature of the “fear” spoken of, both here and in ver. 11, see the description in vers. 17, 18.) It must be a fear that produces obedience, or, in New Testament phrase, that is a “godly fear” (Heb. 12:28).[6]

Our Holiest Example | VCY

I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.Psalm 16:8

This is the way to live. With God always before us, we shall have the noblest companionship, the holiest example, the sweetest consolation, and the mightiest influence. This must be a resolute act of the mind. “I have set,” and it must be maintained as a set and settled thing. Always to have an eye to the Lord’s eye and an ear for the Lord’s voice—this is the right state for the godly man. His God is near him, filling the horizon of his vision, leading the way of his life, and furnishing the theme of his meditation. What vanities we should avoid, what sins we should overcome, what virtues we should exhibit, what joys we should experience if we did indeed set the Lord always before us! Why not?

This is the way to be safe. The Lord being ever in our minds, we come to feel safety and certainty because of His being so near. He is at our right hand to guide and aid us; and hence we are not moved by fear, nor force, nor fraud, nor fickleness. When God stands at a man’s right hand, that man is himself sure to stand. Come on, then, ye foemen of the truth! Rush against me like a furious tempest, if ye will. God upholds me. God abides with me. Whom shall I fear?

Refuse to Worry | Daily Thoughts about God.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. “ 1 Peter 5:6-7

Perhaps you remember the poster boy of Mad MagazineAlfred E. Neuman, always with the tag line of: “What, me worry?” God didn’t create us to worry. It is an acquired worldly skill. He says to trust Him and refuse to worry.

We all have those days when we feel wobbly as we look at perceived difficult times looming ahead, measuring them against our own strength. Usually they are not that day’s tasks, but are somewhere in the future. Some that may never happen at all. God wants us to leave them in the future and focus on the present. He promises us to empower us to handle each task as it comes along. Worry drains us of our ability to focus on God.

Have you ever stopped to think that humans are the only creatures capable of anticipating future events? That can be a blessing when used right, but also a curse when it causes us to have excessive worry about the future.

Peace does not come with excessive planning and attempting to control what happens in the future. We lose God’s peace when our minds spin with multiple plans. Just when we think we have prepared for all possibilities, something unexpected pops up and throws life into confusion.

God did not design us to figure out the future. It is beyond our capability. He crafted our mind for continual communication with and trust in Him. He says to bring Him all our needs, hopes and fears and commit everything to His care.

In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9.

Commit your way to the Lord and trust in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”
Psalm 37:5.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:33-34

Give it a try. Turn from the path of planning to the peace and He will give you a peace which passes all human understanding.

Laughter | Daily Thoughts about God.

I love God’s sense of humor.

The number of times it is a beautiful day outside and out I go for a walk, but within 10 minutes of leaving home it is pouring with rain and I don’t have an umbrella.  Other times I am sitting under a tree and a gumnut drops right on my head.  It could have dropped anywhere around me, but no, it lands square on my head.  Whenever these sorts of things happen to me I always smile to myself and imagine God is laughing along with me.

To laugh is so good for us.

It changes our mood and allows us to see the world through new eyes.  We also need to laugh at ourselves as we tend to take ourselves too seriously at times.  We should allow the laughter to bubble up from our depths and so infect others with this incredible ‘medicine’.  I always thank God that we have been given this gift of laughter.

I also think the Creator must have laughed a lot when I came into being as I have done, and will do, so many silly things throughout my life.   Now I am not advocating that we go around making fun of every situation and laughing at inappropriate times. There are so many times when we are overwhelmed with what each day offers or perhaps the sadness in the world weighs heavily on our shoulders and we find ourselves bereft of even a smile.  It is at those times that we need the strength, the compassion and the incredible unconditional love that only the Lord can give us to help us through, but there are also times if we can smile or laugh the situation will be so much clearer to see.

I have always loved this verse from Genesis after Sarah had born a son, Isaac.

Genesis 21:5-6  (NIV)
Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.

Prayer:
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of laughter.  Show us times when we can make someone else smile and so make them feel special, just as you make us feel special.  Help us to laugh at ourselves and that in so doing we may infect others with this release of stress and pain.  Thank you, also, for your infinite patience with us.  Amen

The Sun’s Magnetic Poles Are Vanishing
The sun’s magnetic poles are about to reverse as part of a regular 11-year sunspot activity cycle. “Right now it looks like the sun’s polar fields are fairly well in sync,” says Lisa Upton, a solar scientist at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colo. “They’re getting really close to zero, so they’re getting very, very weak, but we haven’t quite hit the reversal yet.”

Iran Raises Black Flag Over One Of The World’s Largest Mosques In Ominous Sign
All of the signs are telling us that a war between Israel and Hezbollah is imminent. And once it begins, the U.S. and Iran will inevitably get sucked into the conflict as well. We are literally talking about an apocalyptic scenario, and that is going to have enormous implications for all of us. Hezbollah has an arsenal of 130,000 missiles that it can launch at Israeli cities, Iran possesses even greater firepower than Hezbollah does, and the Israelis have quite a few surprises up their sleeves. I will just leave it at that for now. As this war evolves, the entire world will be shocked by the death and destruction that we witness. Unfortunately, there is no turning back now. In the contemporary Islamist movement, the black flag is used to evoke notions of jihad and of reestablishing the Islamic Caliphate. It can also be used as a symbol in Islamic eschatology heralding the advent of the Islamic Mahdi,

String of Hamas, Islamic Jihad rocket misfires have resulted in the deaths of multiple civilians in Gaza: IDF | FOX news

A steady stream of rocket misfires by Hamas and Islamic Jihad have resulted in the deaths of several Palestinians since the war between Israel and Iran-backed terrorists first began earlier this month, according to one Israeli defense official.

“They are killing their own people,” Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari said Saturday.

Hagari noted that one-fifth of the rockets that have been fired by Hamas and Islamic Jihad have missed intended targets and landed inside Gaza, killing civilians. That number, Hagari said, amounts to more than 550 rockets.

The comments from Hagari came roughly four days after the al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City was struck by an errant rocket. The blast reportedly left hundreds dead. Hamas initially claimed the hospital was attacked in an Israeli strike; Israel countered after an investigation that it was hit by an errant missile launched by terrorists in Gaza.

ISRAEL REMAINS FOCUSED ON DESTROYING HAMAS DESPITE CEASE-FIRE CALLS: ‘NO OTHER OPTION’

Online video that made rounds on social media suggested the al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City was not directly hit by a rocket on Tuesday. Instead, the missile appears to have struck a nearby parking lot, leading to many conflicting claims of who was responsible, where the missile struck and how many people died.

After an investigation, Israel said the rocket was fired by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a State Department-designated foreign terrorist organization backed by Iran.

“An analysis of IDF operational systems indicates that a barrage of rockets was fired by terrorists in Gaza, passing in close proximity to the al-Ahli [Baptist] Hospital in Gaza at the time it was hit,” IDF officials said. “Intelligence from multiple sources we have in our hands indicates that Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket launch which hit the hospital in Gaza.”

President Biden, who was in Israel Wednesday, said intelligence from the Pentagon also supported Israel’s assertion that the blast originated from rocket fire in Gaza. The president reiterated his belief that Israel was not to blame later on Wednesday. National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson also reaffirmed the U.S. position.

The string of misfires, according to Joe Truzman, a research analyst for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ Long War Journal, is a result of “Hamas and other groups like Islamic Jihad” having to “make do with the material they have.”

ISRAEL ELIMINATES TERRORISTS IN GAZA, LEBANON, WHILE STRIKING HAMAS AND HEZBOLLAH TARGETS

“Iran is the chief supporter of several Palestinian armed groups, including other bad actors across the region,” Truzman told Fox News Digital. “The regime in Iran funds, arms and supports its network of proxies and clients. The caveat with Palestinian groups in Gaza and the West Bank is that Iran is not able to transfer advanced weapons without the Israelis thwarting it. Iran has likely been able to get some weapons through, but it’s a difficult task.

“Because of this hurdle, the Iranians focus on arming Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian terrorist organizations with the know-how to build weapons,” he explained. “With this knowledge, Hamas is able to locally produce rockets, mortars, drones and other weapons. While this knowledge has its advantages in the war against Israel, Hamas and other groups like Islamic Jihad have to make do with the materiel they have.”

A chart released by the IDF last week showed an increasing number of Hamas and Islamic Jihad rockets failed upon launch and landed in the Gaza Strip. Nearly 13% of the rockets that were fired toward Israel Oct. 17 landed in the densely populated enclave.

Describing some methods terrorists have used in an effort to achieve their mission, Truzman noted that “Hamas has dug up underground water pipes that were left behind following the evacuation of Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip.”

“These pipes are used to build rockets. And while it may be a clever method to build up Hamas’ arsenal, it doesn’t mean the rockets are effective and will always travel to the intended target,” he added. “Also, the rockets are produced by terrorist organizations, not a complex arms industry.”

As for why there have been so many misfires, Truzman said he believes it’s because the terrorists have not “perfected” the process of developing efficient rockets with reliable materials.

“An example of a misfire was filmed last year by a pro-Hamas outfit called al-Mayadeen. The crew filmed a rocket fired by a Palestinian terrorist group, landing short, striking civilian infrastructure,” he said. “While Hamas and other groups have learned how to self-produce rockets, it certainly doesn’t mean they have perfected it, and this is likely the reason why we are witnessing some of these rockets landing inside the Gaza Strip.”

The Hamas-controlled Gaza health ministry claimed Saturday that 4,385 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the war broke out and 3,561 have been wounded in the Israeli strikes. It is unclear how many people in the Gaza Strip have died or been injured as a result of rocket misfires by Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups.

More Than 500 Rockets Fired by Palestinian Terrorists Have Fallen Inside Gaza

More than 500 rockets fired by Palestinian Islamic terrorists over the last couple of weeks have fallen inside Gaza , killing and wounding large numbers of Palestinians.

IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said that since Hamas launched their war against Israel on October 7 that approximately 20 percent of the rockets fired by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad have fallen inside the Gaza Strip — numbers that are similar to the percentage of rockets that landed in Gaza during the terrorist’s attacks in 2021.

“More than 550 rockets launched by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad have failed, killing innocent civilians in Gaza,” he said. “They are killing their own civilians.”

Blinken: Hamas Blocking Americans From Leaving Gaza | The Gateway Pundit

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday and warned that Hamas is preventing Americans and other foreign nationals from leaving Gaza.

Host Margaret Brennan asked, “In terms of what’s happening in Gaza. I know there are an estimated 500-600 Americans there. There are only two ways out. One is through the Rafah gate to Egypt. It does not appear any Americans have made it out that way. There’s also another Erez Crossing into Israel. Is there any chance Israel lets some of those Americans out or Egypt allows some of those Americans in?”

Blinken responded, “We have- you’re exactly right. We have several hundred Americans and other nationalities, other civilians from- from other countries who want to leave Gaza. We’ve had people come to Rafah, the crossing with Egypt. And to date, at least, Hamas has blocked them from leaving, showing once again, its total disregard for civilians of any kind who are- who are stuck in Gaza.”

“This is something that we’re working, again, virtually every single day. We have in the- right now in the region on the ground, one of our most experienced diplomats, David Satterfield, working with the different governments concerned with- with Israel, with Egypt, to make sure that we’re ready to be able to get people out, assuming Hamas lets them move. So really, the ball is in Hamas’ court, in terms of letting people who want to leave, civilians from third countries including Americans get out of Gaza.”

When asked to clarify if Hamas is preventing Americans from leaving Gaza, Blinken responded, “That’s correct.”

Brennan also asked if missing Americans, believed to have been kidnapped, are being held by Hamas or if there was a possibility that other militant groups may have them, Blinken did not provide much in the way of new information.

“Look, you’ll understand I can’t speak to the – to the details of this. We’ve been engaged from virtually the first day of this. I don’t want to be clear when it was clear that Hamas had taken men, women, young children, elderly people hostage, including Americans. It was really gratifying.”

“Yesterday, I got a chance to speak to the two Americans, the mother, daughter, Judith and Natalie Raanan, who were released. I spoke to them. We are very appreciative of the assistance that we got from the Government of Qatar, to make sure that they could get out and now soon be reunited with their families. We’re hopeful that- that others follow. It is imperative that every single hostage, every single hostage of whatever nationality, be released immediately and without condition.”
