August 3 Evening Verse of the Day

1 While most scholars see v. 1 as part of the complaint over personal distress, there is enough similarity between vv. 1 and 29 to argue for a thematic inclusio. Both verses contain a cognate of the word “salvation.” Both verses also speak of the dire situation. Verse 1 pleads for God to save, for “the water has come to my neck.” The trouble is characterized by the metaphor of deep water, but what is at stake is not just a wet neck—it is the very life of the one praying. Likewise, v. 29 summarizes the distress presented in the whole of vv. 1–29: “I am afflicted and in pain.”[1]

69:1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. The same metaphor of waters is also used in Isaiah 8:7–8. Note that the first part of the psalm (69:1–4) is centered on “me,” the psalmist, a figure of the Suffering Servant (see “your servant,” 69:17).[2]

69:1 waters have come up to my neck The psalmist describes his situation as deep waters threatening to drown him. This imagery highlights the urgency of the psalmist’s cry for help.[3]

69:1 the waters. The psalmist pictures his distress as one slowly sinking down in a river. The raging waters are a frequent biblical illustration of social or personal chaos. See notes Ps. 18:4; 46:2, 3.[4]

August 5 – Unearthed in London: Cyrus’ Unusual Proclamation! | VCY

TODAY’S BIBLE READING CHALLENGE:
  Ezra 1:1-2:70
  1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5
  Psalm 27:7-14
  Proverbs 20:22-23

Ezra 1:1 — Most kings don’t liberate their subjects; like Rehoboam, they tend to up the ante (1 Kings 12:11). Cyrus, however, brought in a unique policy. It was so unique that many people doubted that such a king would fund the construction of a foreign deity’s temple; that is, until something showed up in London that had been unearthed in Babylon 130 years before.

In the British Museum you can see the Cyrus Cylinder that features a similar proclamation to other people groups. Some people may say that this cylinder contradicts Ezra because Ezra appears to say that Cyrus liberated the Jews exclusively. Ezra, however, does not say that no other people groups were liberated; his focus is solely and obviously on the Jewish nation.

The Cyrus Cylinder

… whose sanctuaries had been abandoned for a long time, I returned the images of the gods, who had resided there [i.e., in Babylon], to their places and I let them dwell in eternal abodes. I gathered all their inhabitants and returned to them their dwellings …

Ezra 1:11 — Note that the Ark of the Covenant is not included. We saw it mentioned in 2 Chronicles 35:3, but as our good brother, Dexter Penwell, pointed out, the text does not say that the command was completed. Interestingly, Josiah didn’t use the phrase “Ark of the Covenant of the LORD” but “the holy ark.” The “Ark of the Covenant of the LORD” was last mentioned in the time of Solomon in 2 Chronicles 5:7. We will see a curious mention of the Ark of the Covenant in Jeremiah 3:16.

Ezra 2:64-65 — The seventy years of captivity are over (Jeremiah 25:11-12). We’ve just read the list of the almost 50,000 heroic pilgrims who left the big cities of Babylon to return to Canaan. In a similar trek that Abraham took when leaving Ur of the Chaldees for Hebron, these pilgrims leave Babylon for Jerusalem following the Lord’s command (Jeremiah 29:10). Their destination was not the beautiful city of the past, but a burned out, overgrown capitol.

1 Corinthians 1:18 — What kind of message is it that tells people established in an affluent cosmopolitan city to abandon it for a place that God has supposedly told you to go to? It sounds like foolishness. The message today is similar, though: Christians will one day leave their impressive cities and comforts for a home up in the sky! Believers are commanded to abandon laying up treasures on earth and start laying up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-20). Our friends think we’ve lost all the money that we’ve given to the Lord, but they don’t realize that we’ve been offered a 100-fold return (Mark 10:30).

Yes, we see the word “foolish” six times in this passage. Earthly wisdom says the only things for sure is death and taxes, so get a good profession and make some money. Thus, “not many wise men” are called (1 Corinthians 1:26). We do not have earthly wisdom – we have the wisdom of Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:30). We cannot glory on our own (1 Corinthians 1:29), but in the LORD (1 Corinthians 1:31)! Paul came in weakness of self but in the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:5).

Psalm 27:9 — Where do we find our salvation? In God – the One who will take us in when our earthly parents believe we have embraced foolishness (Psalm 27:10). Yes, if we want His blessings, we need to seek Him (Psalm 27:8).

Psalm 27:14 — Listen to the song “Wait on the Lord” from our good friend Patch the Pirate:

Proverbs 20:22 — Proverbs reminds us again!

Proverbs 20:23 — Sound familiar? This is the third iteration of this command (Deuteronomy 25:13, Proverbs 20:10, Proverbs 20:23).

Needs to Open Our Mouths | VCY

Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. (Psalm 81:10)

What an encouragement to pray! Our human notions would lead us to ask small things because our deservings are so small; but the Lord would have us request great blessings. Prayer should be as simple a matter as the opening of the mouth; it should be a natural, unconstrained utterance. When a man is earnest he opens his mouth wide, and our text urges us to be fervent in our supplications.

Yet it also means that we may make bold with God and ask many and large blessings at His hands, Read the whole verse, and see the argument: “I am Jehovah, thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.” Because the Lord has given us so much He invites us to ask for more, yea, to expect more.

See how the little birds in their nests seem to be all mouth when the mother comes to feed them. Let it be the same with us. Let us take in grace at every door. Let us drink it in as a sponge sucks up the water in which it lies. God is ready to fill us if we are only ready to be filled. Let our needs make us open our mouths; let our faintness cause us to open our mouths and pant; yea, let our alarm make us open our mouths with a child’s cry. The opened mouth shall be filled by the Lord Himself. So be it unto us, O Lord, this day.

Obedience Quotes to Bless Your Christian Walk! | Bible Apologetics – A DAILY DEVOTIONAL

While many people consider the word obedience to be a negative word, we as Christians understand that when it comes to God, obeying His commands can actually be the most rewarding and joyous experience in our walk with Jesus. For you see when we obey Jesus, not only are we pleasing our Creator and Lord, but we are participating in building up the kingdom of God, being a blessing to others, and storing up treasures in our heavenly bank account.

I love how Thomas Watson put it when he said: “God commands nothing but what is beneficial. ‘And now, Israel, what does the Lord require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, and to keep his statutes, which I command thee this day, for thy good?’ Deut 10: 12, 13. To obey God, is not so much our duty as our privilege.”1

I pray that the following quotes on obedience will get you more excited about why obeying God is such a wise investment – that is guaranteed to pay eternal dividends and fill our hearts to overflowing with joy![1]

“One act of obedience is better than one hundred sermons.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“A Christian is just as much under obligation to obey God’s will in the most secular of his daily businesses as he is in his closet or at the communion table.” — A. A. Hodge

“The Bible recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not spring from faith. The two are opposite sides of the same coin.” — A. W. Tozer

“Obedience is the crown and honour of all virtue.” — Martin Luther

“We cannot wait until we feel the Spirit moving us… We must obey God even when our heart is not in it – often to discover that our hearts come alive to our duty even while we do it.” — Samuel Bolton

“Wicked men obey from fear; good men, from love.” – Augustine

“Resolution One: I will live for God. Resolution Two: If no one else does, I still will.” – Jonathan Edwards

“Maturity comes from obedience, not necessarily from age.” – Leonard Ravenhill

“The golden rule for understanding in spiritual matters is not intellect, but obedience.” – Oswald Chambers

“The history of all the great characters of the Bible is summed up in this one sentence: They acquainted themselves with God, and acquiesced His will in all things.” – Richard Cecil

“The condition of an enlightened mind is a surrendered heart.” – Alan Redpath

“If you know that God loves you, you should never question a directive from Him. It will always be right and best. When He gives you a directive, you are not just to observe it, discuss it, or debate it. You are to obey it.” – Henry Blackaby

“God is looking for willing hearts… God has no favorites. You do not have to be special, but you have to be available.” – Winkie Pratney

“Have you noticed how much praying for revival has been going on of late – and how little revival has resulted? I believe the problem is that we have been trying to substitute praying for obeying, and it simply will not work.” – A. W. Tozer

“Taking up my ‘cross’ means a life voluntarily surrendered to God.” – A. W. Pink

“It is altogether doubtful whether any man can be saved who comes to Christ for His help with no intention to obey Him.” – A. W. Tozer

“If you look up into His face and say, ‘Yes, Lord, whatever it costs,’ at that moment He’ll flood your Life with His presence and power.” – Alan Redpath

“It does not require great learning to be a Christian and be convinced of the truth of the Bible. It requires only an honest heart and a willingness to obey God.” – Albert Barnes

“Holy joy will be oil to the wheels of our obedience.” – Matthew Henry

“The whole duty of man is summed up in obedience to God’s will.” – George Washington

“Every time you open up your heart in obedience to God and worship Him with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul, our beautiful Lord responds with His magnificent presence.” – Darlene Zschech

“There is a moral and spiritual war for the souls of Americans. And this war must be waged by preaching the Gospel, prayer, and obedience to God’s Word.” – David Jeremiah

“Obedience to God’s will is the secret of spiritual knowledge and insight.” – Eric Liddell

“If you desire anything less for yourself than absolute obedience to God, a life of total devotion to the Lord, a life of absolute sin-less-ness – if you desire anything less, you are fighting against God’s desire for you.” – Sinclair B. Ferguson

Taco Bell’s AI Overlords Will Soon Be Taking Your Order
The next time you order a Chalupa at Taco Bell, it may not be a human on the other end of the loudspeaker. Bloomberg reports that the Mexican-themed fast-food chain is introducing artificial intelligence at hundreds of its drive-thrus across the US by the end of 2024, after testing the technology for about two years in 100 or so restaurants in 13 states. National and state provisions for medical martial law to be enacted are in place
Allegedly, CV-19 victims were transported in Arkansas to what I would call a FEMA medical martial law facility. This is not an isolated incident. Arizona granted former governor Doug Ducey the authority to create, operate, and maintain concentration camps. The camps are allegedly for a deadly pathogen from which quarantine is determined to be needed. Yet, it is the governor that makes that determination, not a health board nor the State Legislature. This is the creation of a medical martial law dictatorship.

Turkish Invasion: America is essentially allowing Erdoğan to build military outposts on U.S. soil.
Why is the West allowing Turkish President Erdoğan to infiltrate nations, forge jihadist alliances, deploy radical imams, and build armies on foreign soil as part of his plan to re-establish the Ottoman Empire and conquer through state-backed mosques and political manipulation? The Diyanet’s establishment of mosques across the globe isn’t merely for religious purposes; it’s to extend Erdoğan’s influence and control. By allowing these mosques on U.S. soil, we’re inviting a Trojan horse into our midst.

Colleges Across America Offer Radical Courses On Witchcraft And Divination
Across the nation, students will soon pack their bags and head for college campuses for a year of instruction. But some of the classes on their rosters might not be quite what you would expect. According to a recent article, colleges across the US, including Yale, Duke, and Georgetown, are offering classes on witchcraft and the occult. But I’m sure they won’t offer classes on biblical creation—and if they did, they would be teaching against that anyway and denigrating Christianity.

According to Abdullah Azwar Anas, Indonesia’s Minister of Apparatus Utilisation and Bureaucratic Reform, issuing digital IDs is vital for the optimum use of the Electronic-Based Government System and it will streamline access to integrated government services.

Rebelling Against God’s Design

When you read scripture, you begin to see that God’s most fervent judgment is directed at idolatry and lawlessness. Even anti-Christ in the Bible is revealed as “the man of lawlessness.” So what happens when each person is their own law, and there’s no law outside of them? The common refrain used against Christians on these matters is that they are bigoted and intolerant, unable to accept differences. But that’s really not the case at all. I invite you to watch more.

We need a president who ‘understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that rests in understanding the significance of diplomacy’

Thaleigha Rampersad

August 3, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris attempted to answer a question from a reporter on Thursday. Even though it was one of the easiest questions a politician has ever been asked—how do you feel about the good thing (Americans released from Russian prison) that just happened?—Harris absolutely flubbed the response.

“This is just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that rests in understanding the significance of diplomacy,” Harris said in the style of a high school freshman asked to give a report on a book she hasn’t read.

Harris would obviously prefer not to answer another question like that. Fortunately for her, our mainstream journalists are such self-loathing partisan hacks they will probably oblige.

Have a great weekend!

VIDEO: Are We Ever Going Back to Normal?

Michele Bachmann reports that our world is spinning out of control and few things are as they used to be. The globalists are dictating new rules and who should be in power in America and elsewhere. Who’s running our government and will we ever go back to normal? Is there time to go back? Who is the puppet master of Washington and the world? This is from Understanding the Times August 1, 2024 in Minneapolis. We will have a DVD of this event next week.

News Weekly – 8/3/2024 | Winging It

Double Standards Abound
Hezbollah dropped a rocket barrage in the middle of a soccer field in Israel killing 12 people — mostly children. This must go unnoticed, of course, because the world has determined that Israel has no right to exist and must be removed “from the river to the sea.” Which, by the way, is an attempt at genocide … of which they accuse Israel, not the Arab nations arrayed against her. Killing Israeli children is okay, apparently.

Taking Aim at America
Our government is designed with checks and balances in the system, so we have a Legislative Branch to make laws, an Executive Branch to carry out the laws, and a Judicial Branch to evaluate the laws. This way no one branch takes control. Unless, of course, you’re the Democrats, it appears. Biden is promising to rein in all this nonsense that the Judicial Branch has been pulling (where “nonsense” is “the things we disagree with”) with sweeping reforms to the Supreme Court. He is targeting presidential immunity and term limits for justices and a code of ethics aligned with his party’s views. All in the name of “Democracy” (that capital “D” was not a typo — it’s a connection to “Democrats”) where the Democrats can control … the government and, if they lose that control, can regain it. Because if there’s anything the ruling party hates, it’s opposition. (And you thought it was something like “injustice” or the like, didn’t you?)

Killing Peace
Iran and Hamas have reported that Israel killed Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh in a strike in Tehran. Haniyeh was a leading voice for a cease-fire in Gaza, so expect those talks to bog down (further). What no one appears to be saying is how Israel managed a strike in Tehran. Or why Israel claims to have killed a senior Hezbollah leader in Beirut, but not Haniyeh. Whatever the truth is, it’s sure to not improve the prospects of peace in the Middle East.

Kettle, Meet Pot
I was baffled by this story that Kamala Harris calls Trump’s claims about her racial origins “the same old show of divisiveness and disrespect.” Without denying that Trump might be divisive and disrespectful, isn’t it quite clear that so is Harris (and the rest)? It has been a long time since we’ve seen any civility in politics (and elsewhere).

According to USA Today, Kamala Harris is the daughter of an Indian mother (a mother whose origins are in India) and a Jamaican father. She is considered “black” and “south Asian.” Apparently, her father was in a line of “Afro-Jamaicans” who were originally from Africa. His paternal grandfather was a slave owner. His paternal grandmother was of Irish descent. That is, on one hand, there is African descent in Harris, but it is long and slim and is quite clearly a play of the “race card.” On the other hand, why Trump would bring it up is beyond me because it is irrelevant both in content and effect. Let it go, man.

No Kings, But Masters Are OK
As promised, Chuck Schumer rolled out his “No Kings Act” to eliminate presidential immunity. They haven’t figured out how to make it “for Trump only,” which will surely come back to bite them later when the shoe is on the other foot. Interestingly, the Constitution does provide immunity for members of Congress which, for reasons none of us understand, Schumer et al. is not trying to rescind. You do know why government officials have immunity while in office, right? That’s so opponents can’t create a coup on a legal charge, and clearly that’s the idea here — to overthrow Trump either before or after entering office — from the party trying to “defend democracy” while bypassing it as much as they can.

Olympic Domestic Violence
In case you missed it, an
Olympic boxer from Algeria beat an Italian opponent in 46 seconds, and there is controversy. Imane Khelif of Algeria beat (literally) Angela Carini. Oh, did you notice? “Angela” is a woman’s name. You see, it was a women’s fight, and Imane was disqualified last year because he/she failed the testosterone testing and her/his DNA had XY chromosomes. But the Olympics let him/her compete this year and Carini quit 46 seconds in because “I’ve never been hit with such a powerful punch.” I guess she’s not used to being beat up by guys. Get used to it, lady. They don’t care anymore.

Dad Jokes
Instead of the Bee this week, I had to share a few of these I came across since, as people who know me can tell you, it’s just one of the services I provide.

My uncle wanted to be a map maker in Arizona until he found out he didn’t have a sense of Yuma.

Steve Jobs would have made a better president than Donald Trump. But that’s comparing apples to oranges.

I saw my wife sitting in front of the TV yelling at the screen, “Don’t go in there! Don’t go in that church, you moron!!” She was watching our wedding video.

Perhaps my favorite, though, was this one.

I ordered a chicken and an egg on Amazon. I’ll let you know.

JD Vance on the Democrat Switcheroo: ‘How Many People Voted for Harris to be the Nominee of the Democrat Party?’ (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit

JD Vance recently spoke to a podcaster called the Chief Nerd and weighed in on the Democrat party’s switcheroo between Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

He pointed out that while he would not have voted for Joe Biden, 14 million Democrat primary voters did. He then asks, “How many people voted for Harris to be the Democrat party nominee?”

The answer is zero, obviously.

Vance notes that while Democrats accuse him and Trump of being a threat to democracy, they are the ones who threw their own candidate overboard, and he is completely right about this.

Watch below:

If Democrats get away with this switch, who is to say they won’t do this again in the future? Will Democrat primary voters even matter in future elections? And shouldn’t Democrats be upset about what the power brokers in their party just did?

Elon Musk Reveals His Compelling Reasons on Why He’s Voting for Donald Trump in 2024 Presidential Election | The Gateway Pundit

Screenshot: Lex Fridman/Youtube

In a recent interview with Lex Fridman, tech mogul Elon Musk disclosed his rationale for endorsing Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

The discussion began with Fridman referencing a tragic assassination attempt on Trump, which Musk had commented on via social media.

Musk praised Trump’s display of courage following the assassination attempt, stating, “He just got shot. He’s got blood streaming down his face, and he’s fist-pumping, saying, ‘Fight.’ That’s impressive.”

It can be recalled that Elon Musk endorsed President Trump roughly 30 minutes after he was shot in an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk tweeted.

He followed up minutes later, saying, “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt.”

Musk argued that the United States requires a leader who can stand firm against tough adversaries on the global stage.

“Most people would be ducking,” he said, referring to how others might react in a crisis. “You want someone who is strong and courageous to represent the country.”

The billionaire entrepreneur didn’t shy away from acknowledging Trump’s flaws but maintained that, on balance, Trump is the better choice compared to Biden. “It was a choice of Biden… who has trouble climbing a flight of stairs, and the other one is fist-pumping after getting shot. No comparison,” Musk said.

During the conversation, Musk outlined several critical issues that are in line with Trump’s vision:

  1. Border Security: Musk emphasized the need for a secure border as fundamental to national safety.
  2. Urban Safety and Cleanliness: He called for safe and clean cities, implying that current policies have failed to maintain urban environments.
  3. Fiscal Responsibility: Musk expressed deep concern over government spending, stating that “the interest payments on US debt this year exceeded the entire defense department spending.” He warned that if unchecked, this could lead to a fiscal crisis reminiscent of Argentina’s economic downfall.
  4. Reducing Government Size: He argued for a reduction in government size and spending to ensure that America does not take its prosperity for granted.

–Alejandro Mayorkas has replaced Director Cheatle with the man whose job was to  oversee the protective details that failed former President Trump.  That man is acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe who worked for the Obama White House.

–Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee and Senate Homeland Security Committee on Tuesday.  It was a joint hearing on the assassination of former President Trump on July 13th.  Jim provided audio from an exchange with Senator Josh Hawley during the hearing.

–Another exchange during the hearing involved Senator Ted Cruz.  Again, Jim provided audio.
