August 21 – Why Study Job? | VCY

TODAY’S BIBLE READING CHALLENGE:
  Job 1:1-3:26
  1 Corinthians 14:1-17
  Psalm 37:12-29
  Proverbs 21:25-26

Job 1:1 — Why study Job?

Job 1:21 — I have a friend that has gone through the loss of his family (Job 1:15, Job 1:19), the loss of financial provisions (Job 1:17), and also the loss of good health (Job 2:7). Today, you may be facing these same challenges, or you may know someone who is. If you aren’t being challenged right now, thank God for this season of blessing. If you are, this is the book to read!

Job 2:13 — Sometimes the best thing you can do for your friends is to sit silently by. Job’s friends did well until they opened their mouths.

1 Corinthians 14:5 — It would be exciting to have a cool spiritual gift to be seen by many (or even just your friends), or to be admired or even envied. But as we read in 1 Corinthians 14:12, your value is not in how impressive your gift is, but in how it edifies the church. From Preaching Today:

Edward Kimball is probably not known to you. He lived over a hundred years ago. He was a Sunday school teacher in Boston, where a young teenager became part of his class. The young man was a country boy. He didn’t know the ways of the city or of the church. But he came to Kimball’s Sunday school class.

When the teen first came to his class, Edward Kimball handed him a Bible. When Mr. Kimball said, “Turn to the Gospel of John,” the country boy didn’t know how to find the Gospel of John. Edward Kimball recognized what was happening, and while the other boys were snickering, he opened the Bible to the Gospel of John and handed it back. When he asked the boys to read, the country boy fumbled as he read.

But Edward Kimball had a big perspective, and he saw possibilities in the boy. Kimball worked with him, and after some months he went down to the store where the boy was working, went into the back room where he was stacking boxes, and led Dwight to Jesus Christ. That was the beginning of the ministry of Dwight L. Moody, this continent’s greatest evangelist during the last century.

Psalm 37:16 — Contentment … whether it’s with your spiritual gift or with your financial state. For at the end, you will be satisfied in the days of famine (Psalm 37:19)! You will not be begging bread (Psalm 37:25)! You will not be forsaken by the LORD (Psalm 37:28)!

Psalm 37:23-24 — Mac Lynch of the WILDS wrote the song “The Steps of a Good Man are Ordered by the LORD:”

Holy Fear | VCY

He that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. (Proverbs 13:13)

Holy awe of God’s Word is at a great discount. Men think themselves wiser than the Word of the Lord and sit in judgment upon it. “So did not I, because of the fear of God.” We accept the inspired Book as infallible and prove our esteem by our obedience. We have no terror of the Word, but we have a filial awe of it. We are not in fear of its penalties because we have a fear of its commands.

This holy fear of the commandment produces the restfulness of humility, which is far sweeter than the recklessness of pride. It becomes a guide to us in our movements: a drag when we are going downhill and a stimulus when we are climbing it. Preserved from evil and led into righteousness by our reverence of the command, we gain a quiet conscience, which is a well of wine; a sense of freedom from responsibility, which is as life from the dead; and a confidence of pleasing God, which is heaven below. The ungodly may ridicule our deep reverence for the Word of the Lord; but what of that?. The prize of our high calling is a sufficient consolation for us. The rewards of obedience make us scorn the scorning of the scorner.

Satan’s Most Common Tactic: Diversion | Pastor Rich

Let’s start with a glimpse into the future, as revealed in the book of Revelation:

“And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season,” (Revelation 20:1-3 KJV).

As we approach the end times, I believe evil will be unleashed in new and intense ways. Identifying our enemy is crucial. What seems to be Satan’s most common strategy today?

Looking at the world around us, it appears to be diversion. A distraction that pulls your attention away from what’s important, leading you off course without realizing it. You start with a clear direction, but a distraction enters, and suddenly, you’re no longer on the path you intended. This is Satan’s tactic.

The first recorded activity of the devil in human history reveals much about his methods:

“Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil,” (Genesis 3:1-6 KJV).

Adam and Eve were in a perfect state, with God’s law written on their hearts. They were in covenant with God, fully aware of His will. Yet, the devil’s strategy was to divert their focus. “Has God indeed said…” He planted a seed of doubt, shifting their attention from God’s clear command to questioning His motives and wisdom.

In verse 4, Satan’s subtle diversion is complete: “You will not surely die.” By the time we reach verse 6, Eve’s focus has shifted entirely from God’s word to the allure of the forbidden fruit. Her focus is now fully on the tree. The devil’s tactic of diversion had led her astray.

In Matthew 4, Jesus faced a similar tactic from Satan. Unlike Eve, Jesus was perfect, His mind fully aligned with God’s will. When tempted, Jesus immediately turned to Scripture, refusing to be diverted. Satan tried to divert Christ’s focus upon Himself, to demonstrate who He is and His power. Yet, His focus remained steadfastly on God’s word.

Today, the devil’s tactic of diversion is still at work. He uses our daily worries—money, family, church, depression—to distract us from God’s written word. While these concerns are real, they can also serve as distractions.

In a world where few people turn first to the Bible, Satan is having a field day. But we must resist. Our focus must be on what the Bible teaches, finding purity and simplicity in Christ.

Tectonic Shifts: Did God Use An Earthquake In The Middle East To Thwart An Attack On Israel?
Tectonic shifts are taking place in the Middle East. We see tectonic shifts politically, certainly militarily, but now we’re seeing tectonic shifts literally. An earthquake in Syria this last week has profoundly affected Hezbollah and could be one of the reasons why Iran and the terror organization have delayed their invasion of Israel.

Revealed: Wall Street Journal Contributor Shared Terrorist Propaganda, Fake News on Oct. 7
October 7 was a busy day for Palestinian journalist Abeer Ayyoub, who works for The Wall Street Journal — but not because she was engaged in professional journalism. The Istanbul-based reporter, who is originally from Gaza and covers the region extensively, used her X account (formerly Twitter) to spread terrorist propaganda and fake news, as Hamas massacred 1,200 Israelis.

Netanyahu’s office: ‘Serial info leakers harming chances for hostage deal’
The Prime Minister’s Office published an unusual message on Sunday against those it referred to as “serial information leakers” who harm the formation of a hostage deal. “There are serial information leakers who harm the ability to advance a deal. They claimed for months that Hamas would never agree to forgo the end of the war as a condition for a deal, and proposed surrendering to Hamas’ demand. They were mistaken then, and they are mistaken now as well.

The Polish Promised Land
As for American Jews, now that the Harris-Walz ticket has triumphed, I have heard that nearly all delegates to the Democratic National Convention will be cloaked in keffiyeh scarves, cheering wildly when Kamala Harris proclaims a permanent ceasefire in Gaza as the most important issue facing the United States. So, here’s some good news: Poland might be the answer. Yes, Poland.

Russia has made yet another threat in the ongoing war with Ukraine. It now promises Kiev will be met with a “harsh response” if it attacks the Kursk nuclear power plant. In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said it was taking very seriously reports of Kiev’s plans to attack the Kursk NPP, located about 90 km from the Ukraine-Russia border, which has become the scene of fierce fighting in recent days.

Six Signs Antisemitism Has Reached Critical Mass
The 1930s and 1940s are here, and we know what’s next! I have warned Christians that history will eventually repeat itself and here we are. The question is: “What side of history do we want to be on as it pertains to Israel and the Jews?” In fact, the more important question really is: “Do we want to be on God’s side or not?” I see six signs that we have reached that dangerous point of a repeat of the 1930s and 1940s.

Mid-Day Snapshot · August 19, 2024

“From The Patriot Post (patriotpost.us)”.

THE FOUNDATION

“The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence.” —John Adams (1787)

ON THIS DAY in 1797, the USS Constitution launched in Boston. Paul Revere himself forged the copper bolts and copper sheathing used to hold her together and protect the hull. The Constitution defeated the British frigate Guerriere on this day in 1812, and in 1941, the Navy placed the Constitution in permanent commission.

IN TODAY’S DIGEST

EXECUTIVE NEWS SUMMARY

Douglas Andrews, Thomas Gallatin, & Jordan Candler

Politics

  • Jew-haters converge on DNC in Chicago: “Killer Kamala,” read one sign from an anti-Israel group stationed outside the United Center in Chicago, the site of this week’s Democratic National Convention. “Globalize the intifada,” read another. Clearly, the Democrat Party’s base has its priorities in order. And if, as Marx once said, history repeats itself “first as tragedy, then as farce,” then the authorities who are trying to prevent a repeat of the 1968 DNC have their work cut out for them. “Hundreds of people rallying against the Israel-Hamas war and restrictions on reproductive rights kicked off the first protest of the Democratic National Convention on Sunday,” reports the Chicago Sun-Times, “but they were met by an even larger showing from Chicago police.” Democrat politics make strange bedfellows, though, as embodied in this disjointed quote from one of the belligerents: “Rhetoric does not deliver abortion care from someone in a state that has a six-week abortion ban. What we need is action. We need the end to funding to Israel and the end of delivery of weapons.” Abortion on demand or the eradication of the Jews. Can’t these folks make up their minds?
  • DNC vasectomies and abortions: Get free vasectomies and abortions just outside the Democratic National Convention today. As The New York Times reports, “This convention is likely to be a head-on display of a new, unbridled abortion politics.” The message is clear: Democrats don’t like children. They are literally celebrating pregnancy prevention and pregnancy elimination. Convention attendants will be greeted by a number of demonstrations, including a giant “inflatable IUD” promoting birth control. Democrats see abortion rights as their leading platform issue, which explains why they are going to extreme and grotesque levels to market it. Kamala Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, will focus his convention speech on the campaign’s support for abortion and IVF. As Not the Bee’s Joel Abbott sarcastically observes, “Looks like the Democrats are working hard to prove the nickname ‘Party of Death’ is false!”
  • Lawmakers launch investigation into Walz over “extensive” ties to Communist China (Daily Wire)
  • House GOP impeachment inquiry report: House Republicans have released their impeachment inquiry report on Joe Biden, and there’s no question it was timed to coincide with the Democrats kicking off their convention in Chicago. The Republicans launched their investigation last September, and according to the 292-page report, they “have accumulated evidence demonstrating that President Biden has engaged in impeachable conduct.” The report notes that Biden engaged in a “conspiracy to monetize his office of public trust to enrich his family.” Republicans also allege that Biden family members raked in more than $27 million, largely from foreigners, by “leading those interests to believe that such payments would provide them access to and influence with President Biden.” The report details, “As Vice President, President Biden actively participated in his conspiracy by, among other things, attending dinners with his family’s foreign business partners and speaking to them by phone, often when being placed on speakerphone by Hunter Biden.” It adds, “Based on the totality of evidence, it is inconceivable that President Biden did not understand that he was taking part in an effort to enrich his family by abusing his office of public trust.”
  • Mo Dowd says the quiet part out loud: It was a bloodless coup carried out by the most powerful people in the Not-So-Democratic Party, but the Democrats and their Leftmedia fellow travelers have insisted on trying to portray it as a selfless and heroic choice made by a Rushmore-worthy Joe Biden. Finally, though, someone on the Left has let slip the truth. “The Dems Are Delighted,” reads the headline to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd’s latest column. “But a Coup Is Still a Coup.” Indeed it is, and Dowd makes no apologies for it. She writes, “Even though it was the right thing to do, because Joe Biden was not going to be able to campaign, much less serve as president for another four years, in a fully vital way, it was a jaw-dropping putsch.” This week’s DNC will ignore all this intrigue in an effort to present a harmonious house, a unified front, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Biden will take the stage tonight to paper over all the bitterness, but it won’t work. He was kicked to the curb by his own party, and everyone knows it.
  • Undemocratic Michigan Democrats remove Cornel West from ballot: If the Democrats really think Donald Trump is an “existential threat” to “our democracy,” they sure have a funny way of showing it. Not content to have kicked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. off the ballot in New York, the party of Kamala Harris has now succeeded in throwing civil rights activist and third-party candidate Cornel West off the ballot in the crucial swing state of Michigan. The reason for this ouster? According to Jonathan Brater, Michigan’s elections director, “The affidavits of identity submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office in June for West and his vice presidential running mate, Melina Abdullah, were not properly notarized.” Let’s be clear: Cornel West wouldn’t have taken a single vote from Trump. But he most definitely would’ve pulled a few disgruntled progressives away from Harris. And in a purplish state like Michigan, those few votes could make all the difference.

Culture

  • SCOTUS blocks Biden’s Title IX rewrite: By a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the Biden administration’s attempt to force all schools to allow males into women’s spaces. The justices rejected the Biden administration’s redefinition of “sex” to include “sexual orientation and gender identity.” Under the rewritten rules, any schools that receive federal funding would be required to allow gender-bending males into girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams. The rule change also gutted due process rights for students accused of sexual assault. The four justices who sided with the Biden administration were Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and Neil Gorsuch. U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty, who blocked the Biden administration’s rule change for 26 states, observed, “Title IX was written and intended to protect biological women from discrimination. … Enacting the changes in the Final Rule would subvert the original purpose of Title IX: protecting biological females from discrimination.” This decision is a big win for women and common sense.

Education

  • DeSantis calls for review of Sasse’s expenses as UF president: In 2022, when the University of Florida’s Board of Trustees selected former Nebraska Republican Senator Ben Sasse as the university’s next president, they were confident that they’d found the right man from among more than 700 candidates. But Sasse has since left that post due to his wife’s epilepsy diagnosis, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is calling for an investigation into the seemingly exorbitant presidential spending during Sasse’s brief tenure. Clearly, the governor isn’t afraid to police his own. As the Washington Examiner reports, “Sasse reportedly spent $17.3 million in his first year as president of the university, which was up from the $5.6 million his predecessor, Kent Fuchs, spent in his last year. A majority of the spending came from big contracts with consulting firms and high-salaried remote positions for former staffers of Sasse while he was a senator.” Sasse, meanwhile, has explained himself in a lengthy X post.

Second Amendment

  • Deer hunting and “gun violence”: A recently released study claims that deer hunting contributes to higher levels of “gun violence.” Set aside the fact that there is no such thing as “gun violence,” since guns are merely tools wielded by individuals and, as such, have no volition to do anything. The researchers of this purported “study” admit that they only took “shooting data from a single source, the GVA [Gun Violence Archive],” which is an anti-Second Amendment group. They further acknowledge, “Data from GVA have been shown to have a bias toward incidents that receive more media attention and do not include comprehensive counts of firearm suicides.” So, the researchers effectively admit that their study is worthless. What does this “study” purport to show? It basically claims that in 854 rural counties across the U.S., the number of firearms-related shootings rose significantly a week prior to hunting season. The conclusion, according to these “researchers,” is that “the role of firearm prevalence in gun violence … suggest[s] the need for focused policies designed to reduce firearm violence in areas with substantial hunting activity during the first weeks of deer hunting season.” In other words, we need to take away guns. It’s enough to make one wonder if a deer commissioned this study.

Kamala Swings and Misses on the Economy

Douglas Andrews

Time was when a Democrat president lost Walter Cronkite, he lost Middle America.

That’s what Democrat President Lyndon Johnson reportedly muttered on February 27, 1968, upon watching the CBS News anchor’s grim assessment of our ongoing involvement in Vietnam. A month later, in a nationally televised address, Johnson called it quits, telling the nation that he’d decided against seeking reelection.

Of course, relatively few Americans watch the network news these days, but the Democrat Party certainly watches the headlines of its foremost cheerleader. That would be The Washington Post, an organ that, like Cronkite in 1968, has been less than charitable toward the party’s new standard-bearer, Kamala Harris.

A week ago, for example, the Post’s editorial board lamented the vice president’s refusal to sit for an interview — a refusal that has now reached Day 29. “Questions we’d love to ask Kamala Harris,” went the headline.

More recently, the editorial board was at it again, pouring cold water on Harris’s plans for curbing inflation and fixing the American economy, which she’d previewed during the week and announced Friday at a sparsely attended event at Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina.

As the Post’s headline put it: “The times demand serious economic ideas. Harris supplies gimmicks.” Ouch. “‘Price gouging’ is not causing inflation,” went the subhead. “So why is the vice president promising to stamp it out?”

“When I am elected president,” Harris said on Friday, somewhat presumptuously, “I will make it a top priority to bring down costs and increase economic security for all Americans. As president, I will take on the high costs that matter most to most Americans, like the cost of food. We all know that prices went up during the pandemic when the supply chains shut down and failed. But our supply chains have now improved. And prices are still too high.”

She’s right that prices are too high. But she’s wrong about their root causes. Recall that in 2021, Vice President Harris cast the deciding vote in a 50-50 Senate to allow the passage of Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion American [sic] Rescue [sic] Plan [sic], a massive money-printing operation that even Democrat economists conceded would increase inflation. That, more than some phony supply-chain failure, is why prices are so persistently high. Thanks to Team Biden-Harris, we have more dollars chasing fewer goods and services. And that’s the very definition of inflation. As the Post’s editors wrote:

Vice President Kamala Harris’s speech Friday was an opportunity to get specific with voters about how a Harris presidency would manage an economy that many feel is not working well for them. Unfortunately, instead of delivering a substantial plan, she squandered the moment on populist gimmicks.

Americans are clearly still anxious and angry about the high cost of groceries, housing and even $5.29 Big Macs. While the inflation rate has cooled substantially since the 2022 peak, an ostensible Biden-Harris administration accomplishment, prices remain elevated relative to the Trump years.

Recall, too, that Harris said in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, recently, “When I am president, it will be a Day One priority to fight to bring down prices.”

Kamala keeps talking about “Day One” priorities. But she’s already been in office for three and a half years. What she really means is, It’ll be a Day 1,461 priority. Because that’s how long she’ll have been in office by January 20, 2025.

The Post’s editors, though, weren’t the only ones who panned the Harris plan. As former Obama economic adviser Jason Furman told the Financial Times, “I think the biggest hope is it ends up being a lot of rhetoric and not reality. There’s no upside here, and there is some downside.”

Asked on CNN about the impact of so-called corporate price gouging on the inflation that all Americans are feeling, Harvard economist Kenneth Rogoff was even less enthusiastic than Furman. “I don’t think corporate price-gouging has all that much to do with it. … I hope she walks this one back. She had some good ideas. She had some mixed ideas. This was a horrible idea.”

Price controls are always a bad idea, and this sentiment is shared widely across the political spectrum. So when Harris proposes price controls on healthcare, housing, and food, she’s proposing ideas that have been disavowed by all but the Soviet-style central planners currently running Venezuela into the ground.

Perhaps the most damning assessment of all, however, was meant as a compliment to Harris. Asked yesterday on NBC News’s “Meet the Press” whether the candidate’s plan to ban price gouging “was anything more than a gimmick,” Michigan Governor and 2028 Democrat presidential hopeful Gretchen Whitmer replied, “I think it speaks to Kamala Harris’s values.”

In other words, Kamala Harris values gimmickry over substance.

As even The Washington Post concedes: “Harris’s full plan would add $1.7 trillion to federal deficits over a decade. … To be sure, every campaign makes expensive promises that will never come to pass, especially with a divided Congress. … Even adjusted for the pandering standards of campaign economics, however, Ms. Harris’s speech Friday ranks as a disappointment.”

The economy remains the number one issue among the American electorate, and there isn’t a close second. Furthermore, the polls consistently show that voters trust Donald Trump more than Kamala Harris on this issue.

Harris didn’t need to hit an economic home run this weekend; a slap single would’ve been enough for The Washington Post and for much of Middle America.

Instead, she swung and missed.

What explains Kamala Harris’s remarkable rise in popularity? | Denison Forum

Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris greets members of the Aliquippa High School football team during a campaign stop at their school, Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, in Aliquippa, Pa. (AP Photo/Julia Nikhinson)

Note: As a nonpartisan ministry, Denison Forum does not endorse political parties or candidates. I would offer the same observations if today’s news related more to Republicans than to Democrats.

The Democratic National Convention begins today in Chicago. Amid concerns that pro-Palestinian protesters will disrupt proceedings, many will be watching to see how Democrats frame Kamala Harris as their presidential nominee in an election season unlike any other.

She became their nominee two weeks ago through an unprecedented process. Her remarkable rise in popularity is bringing swing states into contention that were thought to be safe for Mr. Trump. She is also energizing her party: Kamala Harris’s 83 percent support among Democrats is 22 points higher than Joe Biden’s on the eve of his withdrawal from the race.

What explains her greater popularity with Democrats?

It’s not due primarily to policy, since both hold positions that largely align with their party and she has held no press conferences and given no formal interviews thus far. The explanation is simple: Many Democrats, fearing that Mr. Biden is too old to campaign or lead effectively, think she has a better chance of defeating Mr. Trump.

Mrs. Harris is obviously younger than Mr. Biden. And she would be the first female to become president. While she is only beginning to lay out her policy proposals and says she’ll do a full interview by the end of August, her rising popularity to this point is based more on who she is than on what she might do.

Mr. Trump’s popularity with his supporters is similarly based in large part on his personal story and courage in the face of political opponents and an attempted assassination. As one analyst noted, “Personality matters more than policy in presidential races.”

What does this say about our culture?

What comprises 82% of internet traffic?

You and I live in a capitalistic society. And capitalism makes us all consumers. Our spending accounts for roughly 70 percent of America’s GDP. Most companies make their money by convincing us to buy their products.

There was a day when they did so primarily through word-centric appeals in print ads and radio commercials. Then came television, followed by the internet, followed by online video, which comprises 82 percent of all internet traffic today.

Video persuades primarily through images and stories that appeal to our emotions. And these appeals work: it is estimated that viewers retain 95 percent of a message when watching it on video vs. 10 percent through text.

All this to say, we have become conditioned to make our decisions—from what to buy to whom to vote for—based primarily on emotions. And as David Brooks explains in his latest New York Times article, our emotions condition and direct our reasoning.

They always have.

“More crafty than any other beast”

Genesis 3 reports that “the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lᴏʀᴅ God had made” (v. 1a). Crafty translates a Hebrew word meaning “shrewd” or “cunning.”

He began his attack on rational grounds by calling God’s word into question: “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?’” (v. 1b). But when the woman responded rationally by repeating and even enlarging on God’s command (vv. 2–3), the enemy shifted tactics: “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (vv. 4–5).

This was a direct appeal to pride and ego, what Nietzsche called the “will to power.”

With this appeal in mind, “the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise” (v. 6a). As a result, “she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate” (v. 6b).

And the world has never recovered from the Fall that resulted (cf. Romans 8:22).

“My treasure Thou art”

Today’s conversation is about far more than partisan politics. In fact, it goes to the heart of what it means to follow Jesus today. In an emotionally driven culture that defines truth by what feels right to us, it is vital that we “take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5), seeking to think biblically about the decisions we face.

To do this, we need to ask the Holy Spirit to “guide [us] into all the truth” (John 16:13) and then submit to his authority (Ephesians 5:18). When we surrender our lives to Christ as our Lord (Romans 12:1) so fully that we are not “conformed to this world,” we can be “transformed by the renewing of [our] mind” (v. 2a). Then we will “discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (v. 2b).

God wants us to know his “perfect” will even more than we do. He will lead all who will follow him as Lord. The decision to experience his best is not with him but with us.

One of my favorite hymns is the eighth-century Irish poem, “Be Thou My Vision.” It includes this prayer:

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

Would the “High King of heaven” say he is “first in your heart” today?

During his “My Take,” Tuesday, “Varney & Co.” host Stuart Varney argued the Democratic National Convention marks the end of President Joe Biden’s political career and the beginning of Kamala Harris’new “era of socialism.”

STUART VARNEY: Tonight, Joe Biden says goodbye.

He was removed from the campaign because the senior people in the Democratic Party knew he could not win.

It was a coup. He can’t be happy.

Jill Biden will also say goodbye. Reportedly, she’s not happy with the Obama’s and there are many in the party who are not happy with her.

She would not allow the truth about the president’s cognitive decline to get out. She precipitated a crisis.

Sen. Warren, Sen. Sanders, AOC, what’s left of the “Squad” and, of course, vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, leftists all, they approve.

Price controls. Rent controls. Vast handouts to targeted groups. Enormous green energy funding. Tax hikes on the rich and on business. This is tax and spend on steroids.

In the first blush of approval for the new candidate, the money poured in.

Harris raised $200 million in the first week of her candidacy.

Tonight we’ll see the end of the old party and the beginning of a new left-leaning experiment.

At this point, the truth is, only Trump can stop it.

The Gateway Pundit Called It Over a Year Ago! Weak Republicans Were Never Going to Impeach Joe Biden – On Monday House Republicans Finally Release Report Detailing Old Joe’s Impeachable Offenses and It’s Too Late to Do Anything About It | The Gateway Pundit

Republicans always had plenty of evidence to hold Joe Biden and the Biden Crime Family accountable. They just didn’t have the guts to do anything about it.

In July 2023, The Gateway Pundit called out Republican lawmakers for being too weak and afraid to impeach Joe Biden before he leaves office despite the release of a 14-year timeline of the Biden Crime Family’s influence peddling and selling out America to foreign regimes including Communist China.

Back on July 23, 2023 The Gateway Pundit reported:

The Oversight Committee is likely just scratching the surface of the criminal actions by Joe Biden, his son Hunter, and the extended Biden family.

The Biden family was selling out America to Ukraine, Romania, and Communist China.

There is plenty of proof.

On Wednesday IRS Whistleblower Joseph Ziegler confirmed in sworn testimony to Congress that the Biden Family received approximately $17 million in bribes from China, Romania, and other countries in exchange for political favors.

On Thursday Senator Chuck Grassley released the FBI document showing Joe Biden was involved in a $10 million bribery scheme with Burisma CEO Mykola Zlochevsky.

The FD-1023 form alleged then-Vice President Joe Biden FORCED Zlochevsky, a Ukrainian oligarch, to pay himself and his son Hunter Biden a total of $10 million in exchange for political favor.

On Friday Rudy Giuliani told The War Room audience the evidence collected against the Biden Crime Family is “the strongest case I’ve ever seen” and greater than the evidence his team had in New York in the 1980s to take down the mafia’s Five Families.

* * * * * * * * * *

So what now? What will Republicans do next? How will this end?

Democrats are moving to jail President Trump on illegitimate charges in garbage court cases.

Where are the Republicans?

We all know the answer to this.

Before Joe Biden is impeached he will have a slip, a fall, or a medical emergency.  His administration will tearfully announce Joe is stepping down from office.

Democrats and their lapdog media will then insist the Biden Crime Story is “yesterday’s news” and “has already been prosecuted.” The American public will be lectured on what a great leader Joe Biden was and how he should be forever honored in our memories and the history books.

Republican leadership and Uniparty members will breathe a sigh of relief that they will not be forced to go through impeachment proceedings. They will tell us, “This is not who we are.”

We wrote that at The Gateway Pundit more than a year ago.

Since then Republicans have pretended to hold the Biden Crime Family accountable. And since we first made the prediction that Joe Biden would leave office before he was held accountable, Joe Biden had a medical emergency and was forced from his reelection race in a silent coup.

Republicans never did have enough strength and honesty to impeach Joe Biden.

On Monday House Republicans from the Congressional Oversight Committee published a report on Joe Biden.

House Republicans released a strongly worded report stating that Joe Biden has committed impeachable offenses while in office. Ya think?

The family is filthy rich thanks to all of their illegal dealings with foreign regimes!

Via Oversight Committee.

This came out 75 days from the election. Evidently, Republicans feel it is safe enough to release their weak-ass report now.

Meanwhile, a rogue judge in New York is going to jail President Donald Trump next month on bogus misdemeanor charges he converted to felony charges that were brought against Trump after the statute of limitations already expired.

The Gateway Pundit knew Republicans were never going to impeach Joe Biden. We called it a year ago.

There’s a reason we have a two-tiered justice system in America today. Because Republicans allow it.

The post The Gateway Pundit Called It Over a Year Ago! Weak Republicans Were Never Going to Impeach Joe Biden – On Monday House Republicans Finally Release Report Detailing Old Joe’s Impeachable Offenses and It’s Too Late to Do Anything About It appeared first on The Gateway Pundit.

Study Shows 84% of Media Coverage of Kamala is Positive, 89% of Trump is Negative – LifeNews.com

Since Joe Biden exited the 2024 presidential race four weeks ago, the liberal networks have delivered an unprecedented boost of positive publicity to his successor in the race, Vice President Kamala Harris. Not only has Harris received 66% more airtime than former President Donald Trump, but the spin of Harris’s coverage has been more positive (84%) than any other major party nominee, even as Trump’s coverage has been nearly entirely hostile (89% negative).

As always, our calculation of spin omits so-called “horse race” assessments (see methodology statement below), but a separate count shows those statements have also favored Harris by a whopping margin (94% positive, vs. just 43% positive for Trump). At the same time, the network coverage has virtually eliminated any discussion of the strident left-wing positions Harris took as Senator or during her 2020 presidential campaign. And while Republican Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance and his Democratic counterpart, Tim Walz, have received nearly equal amounts of airtime, the networks have celebrated Walz (62% positive press) and punished Vance (92% negative).

Details:

■ Nets Award Huge Airtime Advantage to Harris: This Media Research Center study looked at all 2024 presidential campaign coverage on the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts from July 21, the day Biden exited the race, through August 17, including weekends. During those four weeks, the Big Three talked about the race in a total of 194 reports with a combined airtime of 437 minutes.

LifeNews is on TruthSocial. Please follow us here.

As far back as 2015, Donald Trump has nearly always bested his competitors when it came to total airtime. During the 2020 general election, for example, the then-President received three times more coverage than challenger Joe Biden. Yet during the past four weeks, the networks have gifted the most airtime to new Democratic candidate Kamala Harris — 221 minutes of coverage on the evening newscasts, or about 66 percent more than Trump (133 minutes).

The networks spent 31 minutes, 27 seconds talking about Republican Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance over the full 28 day period we studied. Following his selection by Harris on August 6, Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz received a nearly-identical 31 minutes, 59 seconds of airtime, but during a much shorter time period — just 12 newscasts.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was barely discussed — just four minutes, 44 seconds of coverage across the three networks.

■ Nets Award Harris with Historic Good Press: Campaigns might appreciate getting more airtime than their opponents, but it might be a poisoned gift if most of that coverage is hostile. That was certainly not the case with Harris’s national debut, however.

Looking only at clearly evaluative comments from reporters, anchors and non-partisan sources such as voters and experts, we tallied 57 positive comments about Harris on the Big Three evening newscasts since July 21, vs. just 11 negative statements. That translates to an astonishing 84% positive spin score, an unprecedented level of good press.

Many of the fawning comments came from voters raving about the new Democratic candidate. “We know that she is a powerhouse speaker,” one happy Gen Zer enthused on the July 23 NBC Nightly News. “I haven’t felt this kind of excitement since Obama,” another proclaimed on the August 10 CBS Weekend News.

In 2020, we calculated that the networks supplied Joe Biden with 66% positive coverage during the general election, while the Democrats’ 2016 nominee, Hillary Clinton, actually received mostly (79%) negative coverage during that year’s campaign.

Using similar methodology, Stephen Farnsworth and Robert Lichter in 2008 (scroll to page 14) found 68% positive press for Democratic nominee Barack Obama, “the highest…recorded for any nominee over the past six election cycles” by the nonpartisan Center for Media and Public Affairs. Given the networks’ idolatrous coverage of the past four weeks, it is conceivable Harris’s 2024 coverage could wind up even more positive than Obama’s was sixteen years ago.

While the networks showered Harris with good press, their coverage of former President Trump was as hostile as ever. Over these four weeks, we tallied 86 negative evaluations about Trump vs. just 11 positive statements, for an 89% bad press score. The only candidate who fared worse than Trump was his running mate, J.D. Vance. We tallied 22 negative statements about the Ohio Senator, vs. just two positive comments, for a harshly negative 92% bad press score.

As for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, network viewers heard eight positive statements vs. five negative ones, for a 62% positive press score.

Add it all up, and the networks have granted the combined Democratic ticket of Harris-Walz 82% positive press, while Trump-Vance have faced 90% negative coverage.
■ Networks Skip Harris’s Extreme Liberal Record: Harris is almost certainly the most left-wing nominee of a major party in U.S. history. In 2019, she was named as the most liberal of all U.S. Senators, a grouping that included socialist Bernie Sanders. Yet Harris’s past support for many extreme left-wing ideas, such as the Green New Deal, abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, and imposing Medicare-for-All in place of private health insurance, were completely ignored during this wave of good press.

Network reporters only twice explained Harris’s ideology to viewers. On July 21, CBS’s Weijia Jiang noted that Harris “has a liberal voting record that could be balanced with a more moderate VP.” Three days later, NBC’s Liz Kreutz identified Harris as a “self-described progressive prosecutor.” ABC’s correspondents and anchors never once thought to identify Harris as a liberal; the only mention of Harris’s ideology on that network came from occasional soundbites from Trump and other Republicans, describing the Vice President as a “radical left lunatic” (Trump on the July 28 World News Tonight).
■ Downplay/Ignore Damaging Democratic Controversies: The networks spent barely any time on controversies that might have marred Harris’s extraordinary media honeymoon. Out of 221 minutes of total Harris coverage, the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts spent a grand total of 25 seconds on the idea — always presented as a Republican charge — that the Vice President hadn’t been truthful about Joe Biden’s true condition prior to July 21.

The complaint that Harris was being handed the nomination without receiving a single vote from an ordinary Democratic voter was barely noted, receiving a scant 1 minute, 59 seconds of airtime over four weeks. Harris’s failure to have any meaningful interactions with the press

during this entire period — something that should have been a major issue for any news organization — received a paltry 57 seconds of coverage from these three broadcasts combined.

In contrast, the networks spent 8 minutes, 20 seconds of coverage — all of it negative — thumping Trump’s appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists when he questioned whether Harris used to promote herself as of Indian-American heritage instead of black. And J.D. Vance’s comment about “childless cat ladies” running the country was promoted with 11 minutes, 32 seconds of coverage, accounting for more than a third of all of Vance’s coverage during these weeks.

In fact, Vance’s “cat ladies” musings drew nearly twice as much network interest than all of Tim Walz’s dubious claims about his military service (just 6 minutes, 1 second). Walz’s mishandling of the 2020 riots following George Floyd’s death drew even less network interest: just 80 seconds of airtime.

■ Networks Are Portraying Harris as Having Massive Momentum: Our good press/bad press score doesn’t include statements about polls or prognostications, but the networks’ presidential coverage is chock full of such “horse race” assessments. Over the past four weeks, there’s been a tidal wave of positive statements about Harris, generating the impression of massive momentum in favor of the Democrats. Yet a closer look at the data shows the race hasn’t shifted nearly as much as the enthusiastic news coverage would suggest.

From July 21 to August 17, evening news viewers heard 192 positive statements about Harris’s huge crowds, fundraising success, and momentum in the polls, vs. only 12 negative such assessments, for a 94% positive horse race score.

There were far fewer such statements about former President Trump’s campaign standings: 21 positive vs. 28 negative, for a 43% positive/57% negative score.

Yet a check of the average of polls published by RealClearPolitics shows Trump’s overall support has shifted by only a single percentage point, from 47.9% support on July 21 to 46.8% support as of August 17. Looking at the site’s state-by-state assessment, Trump continues to lead in states totaling 219 Electoral College votes, more than Harris. The only shift since July 21: moving Tim Walz’s Minnesota from “toss-up” to “lean Democrat.” Every other battleground state is still considered a toss-up that either side could win, exactly as they stood four weeks ago.

The media’s wildly positive “horse race” coverage of the Harris campaign could create the impression that the Vice President is completely dominating the presidential race. But a calm look at the facts shows that, at least up to this point, the overall state of the race has changed fairly little since the Democrats swapped one candidate for another.

As the Democratic National Convention begins, the Big Three evening newscasts have delivered Kamala Harris the most positive start to a general election campaign of any presidential nominee in recent memory. Not only is she getting the most coverage, she’s also getting by far the most positive press.

The question is whether the public will be swayed by this extraordinarily lopsided coverage, or will they see this as just more evidence of a partisan news media taking sides.

METHODOLOGY: To determine the spin of news coverage, our analysts tallied all explicitly evaluative statements about each candidate from either reporters, anchors or non-partisan sources such as experts or voters. Evaluations from partisan sources, as well as neutral statements, were not included.

As we did in 2016 and 2020, we separated personal evaluations of each candidate from statements about their prospects in the campaign horse race (i.e., standings in the polls, chances to win, etc.). While such comments can have an effect on voters (creating a bandwagon effect for those seen as winning, or demoralizing the supports of those portrayed as losing), they are not “good press” or “bad press” as understood by media scholars as far back as Michael Robinson’s groundbreaking research on the 1980 presidential campaign.

Kamala Harris is a mean girl

Kamala Harris — the calloused mean girl — is the last kind of person we want as president.

There’s no other way to say it: Kamala Harris is mean.

She is a cold, calculating, mean-spirited career politician. Her track record demonstrates this clearly.

House Probe Concludes Traitor Joe Committed Impeachable Offenses by Helping to Enrich His Family

The 291-page report lays out evidence of the Biden family’s foreign payments and the family patriarch’s role in meeting or speaking with partners.

The Republican-led House committees leading the impeachment probe into Joe Biden concluded Monday the president engaged in impeachable conduct by helping to enrich his family with millions of dollars in business schemes that traded on his name and then defrauded voters by lying to cover up the scandal.

The House Oversight, Ways and Means and Judiciary Committees said they believe the evidence from their nine-month investigation establishes that Biden abused his office and violated his oaths under the Constitution, according to the 291-page report reviewed by Just the News.
