OCTOBER 31 | WE ARE DECLARED NOT GUILTY BY THE HIGHEST COURT

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

EPHESIANS 6:11

The Christian believer cannot be happy and victorious in the true liberty of the children of God if he is still quaking about his past sins.

God knows that sin is a terrible thing—yes, and the devil knows it, too! So the devil follows us around and as long as we will permit it, he will taunt us about our past sins.

As for myself, I have learned to talk back to him on this score.

I say, “Yes, Devil, sin is terrible—but I remind you that I got it from you! And I remind you, Devil, that everything good—forgiveness and cleansing and blessing—everything that is good I have freely received from Jesus Christ!”

Everything that is bad and that is against me I got from the devil—so why should he have the effrontery and the brass to argue with me about it? Yet he will do it because he is the devil, and he is committed to keeping God’s children shut up in a little cage, their spiritual wings clipped.

Brethren, we have been declared “Not guilty!” by the highest court in all the universe. It is good to know that on the basis of grace as taught in the Word of God, when God forgives a man, He trusts him as though he had never sinned.

The Bible does not teach that if a man falls down, he can never rise again. The fact that he falls is not the most important thing—but rather that he is forgiven and allows God to lift him up! That is the basis of our Christian assurance and God wants us to be happy in it.1

Evening, October 31 | “I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.”—Hosea 13:5

Yes, Lord, thou didst indeed know me in my fallen state, and thou didst even then choose me for thyself. When I was loathsome and self-abhorred, thou didst receive me as thy child, and thou didst satisfy my craving wants. Blessed for ever be thy name for this free, rich, abounding mercy. Since then, my inward experience has often been a wilderness; but thou hast owned me still as thy beloved, and poured streams of love and grace into me to gladden me, and make me fruitful. Yea, when my outward circumstances have been at the worst, and I have wandered in a land of drought, thy sweet presence has solaced me. Men have not known me when scorn has awaited me, but thou hast known my soul in adversities, for no affliction dims the lustre of thy love. Most gracious Lord, I magnify thee for all thy faithfulness to me in trying circumstances, and I deplore that I should at any time have forgotten thee and been exalted in heart, when I have owed all to thy gentleness and love. Have mercy upon thy servant in this thing!

My soul, if Jesus thus acknowledged thee in thy low estate, be sure that thou own both himself and his cause now that thou art in thy prosperity. Be not lifted up by thy worldly successes so as to be ashamed of the truth or of the poor church with which thou hast been associated. Follow Jesus into the wilderness: bear the cross with him when the heat of persecution grows hot. He owned thee, O my soul, in thy poverty and shame—never be so treacherous as to be ashamed of him. O for more shame at the thought of being ashamed of my best Beloved! Jesus, my soul cleaveth to thee.

“I’ll turn to thee in days of light,

As well as nights of care,

Thou brightest amid all that’s bright!

Thou fairest of the fair!”1

October 31.—Evening. [Or August 30.] | “That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body.”

Acts 10:23–29; 33–48

THE messengers of Cornelius were not long detained by the apostle, for On the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

24 And the morrow after they entered into Cæsarea. (It was a journey of thirty miles, but no doubt the apostle and his six brethren had sweet fellowship on the road, and found kind companions in the three attendants.) And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.

25, 26 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

Had he been like his pretended successor, he would have bidden him kiss his toe.

27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.

28, 29 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me? (Note how he longs to be at work, he wastes no time in idle compliments. Soul matters are weighty and should be at once attended to. Cornelius was ready at once to tell Peter how the Lord had appeared to him, and directed him to send to Joppa, and he added:)

33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

The best kind of congregation a preacher can have. Bogatzky says, “These words should be inscribed on all our church-doors and pulpits, that men may consider well wherefore they ought to be in the house of God.” Peter’s congregation was unbroken—“we are all here;” it was devout—“present before God;” it was attentive—“to hear all things;” it was teachable, for they desired to know “all things that are commanded thee of God.” We should always go to divine service in this spirit.

34, 35 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. (Not in such a way as to supersede the gospel, but to secure them the privilege of hearing it. If there are among the heathen any like Cornelius, the Lord will be sure to send a Peter to them, for he has accepted them.)

36–41 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

42, 43 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

44, 45 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out of the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46, 47 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. (The fact that they had already received the Holy Spirit so abundantly did not set aside the divine ordinance, it was rather the ground of their right to it. This passage is instructive to those who wish to learn.) Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.1

TODAY’S BIBLE READING CHALLENGE:
  Ezekiel 3:16-6:14
  Hebrews 4:1-16
  Psalm 104:24-35
  Proverbs 26:27

Ezekiel 3:18 — The scariest words in the Old Testament: “… his blood will I require at thine hand.” God has given us a message to warn the wicked that they shall die in their sins (Romans 6:23). If we do not warn him, he will die for his sins; he will receive the just punishment of his deeds, but God will hold us accountable.

Ezekiel 3:20 — When we see a Christian falling into temptation, we have the same responsibility!

Ezekiel 3:26-27 — May this be our prayer: “LORD keep my mouth shut when I need to keep it shut, and keep it open when I need to keep it open!”

Ezekiel 4:1 — BibleBlender.com has some interesting visual depictions of what this scene may have looked like.

Ezekiel 4:5 — Over a year Ezekiel lay on his left side, and for over a month he lay on his right side.

Ezekiel 4:15 — Ezekiel the priest was revulsed by what was coming and asked God, “Are you sure?” God was not instituting a new dispensation here (Acts 10:15), just illustrating how desperate the country would get. Thus, He allowed Ezekiel to prepare his bread with cow dung rather than human dung.

Ezekiel 5:3 — God’s pictures were very graphic. The preaching hadn’t made a difference, so God tried another technique to teach His people.

Ezekiel 6:7 — God is judging sin harshly so that His people “shall know that I am the LORD.” Four times in this chapter we read this purpose for God’s actions. He will not abandon His bride that has gone “a whoring after their idols” (Ezekiel 6:9).

Ezekiel 6:10 — “I have not said in vain.” Deuteronomy 27 contained the curses of Mount Ebal. They were not in vain. God doesn’t say, “Try harder next time!”

Hebrews 4:12 — How can we keep our hearts from hardening? How can we know we can enter the rest? How can we not fall victim to unbelief?

  • Through the Scripture of God … our powerful Hope!
  • Through the Sight of God … our omniscient Creator!
  • Through the Son of God … our empathetic Priest!

Hebrews 4:14-16 — Here’s another great doctrinal insight:

  • Hebrews 4:14 – Jesus is transcendent – He has the ability – He CAN help us
  • Hebrews 4:15 – Jesus is immanent – He has the experience – He WILL help us
  • Hebrews 4:16 – Let’s GO to God. His throne of grace is accessible. Compare this to the inaccessible Tree of Life (Genesis 3:24).

Psalm 104:34 — Take time to enjoy the sweetness of our LORD. Don’t let the cares of the world drag you down.

Proverbs 26:27 — As Patch the Pirate shares with us, “You Reap What You Sow.”

Conquest to Victory | VCY

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.Romans 16:20

This promise follows well upon that of yesterday. We are evidently to be conformed to our covenant Head, not only in His being bruised in His heel but in His conquest of the evil one. Even under our feet is the old dragon to be bruised. The Roman believers were grieved with strife in the church; but their God was “the God of peace” and gave them rest of soul. The archenemy tripped up the feet of the unwary and deceived the hearts of the simple; but he was to get the worst of it and to be trodden down by those whom he had troubled. This victory would not come to the people of God through their own skill or power; but God Himself would bruise Satan. Though it would be under their feet, yet the bruising would be of the Lord alone.

Let us bravely tread upon the tempter! Not only inferior spirits but the prince of darkness himself must go down before us. In unquestioning confidence in God let us look for speedy victory. “Shortly.” Happy word! Shortly we shall set our foot on the old serpent! What a joy to crush evil! What dishonor to Satan to have his head bruised by human feet! Let us by faith in Jesus tread the tempter down.

Resources for Reformation Day (Explore These Articles and Resources)

One moment in October 1517 changed history forever.

Concerned about the corrupt selling of indulgences—which seemed to promise forgiveness in exchange for money—Martin Luther posted his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany.

In the providence of God, this one act initiated the Protestant Reformation, a spiritual revival that led to the recovery of the gospel and a return to the authority of the Bible throughout Europe.

Why Study the Reformation?
What was at stake during the Reformation was nothing less than the gospel itself. Because of this, the biblical truths recovered by the Reformers remain vital for every generation of believers.

This month, dive deeper into the significance of the Reformation by exploring articles, videos, and ebooks from R.C. Sproul and other gifted teachers.

‘Who Is Letting This Happen?’: Biden Caught Biting Babies in Absurd Scene at WH Halloween Celebration | Western Journal

When Vice President Kamala Harris took over the Democratic mantle in late July, one of her first moves was to try and paint the GOP — and particular, former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance — as “weird.”

In fact, the very reason why Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz entered the veepstakes was, in part, because he had been the first person to use the “weird” argument. For the first few weeks, this seemed to work — until Vance and Walz were on the same stage and everyone pretty much sussed out which one looked odder. (Spoiler alert: Not the one with more hair.)

Another problem with the maintenance of the “weird” argument is that people haven’t yet forgotten about Harris’ only immediate superior, a man with a thing for sniffing the hair of women and children. Unfortunately for the Democrats, Halloween is right before next Tuesday’s election — and plenty of kids in costumes would be around the White House.

Which, apparently, gave the 46th occupant of the White House the opportunity to bite into a kid dressed like a chicken. Because, why not?

The viral moment happened at a trick-or-treat event Wednesday night at the White House, according to the New York Post. As the theme from “Jaws” played in the background, the president pretended to chomp into the baby’s leg.

While the biting may have been feigned, the discomfort was very real:

Nor, in fact, was this the only baby he did this to:

Do you believe Biden is mentally ill?

Absolutely normal.

The display prompted plenty of snarky comments on social media.

“‘Joe Biden bites a baby.’ And 2024 is complete…” wrote Steve Krakauer of “The Megyn Kelly Show.”

“President Trump is mingling with garbage men at his rally in Wisconsin,” said conservative commentator Nick Sortor.

“Meanwhile, Joe Biden is literally BITING BABIES at the White House Halloween Party. WTF IS THIS TIMELINE?”

Later, with video of the second baby being bitten emerging, Sortor asked, “Who is letting this happen and why?!”

But that’s the thing: There’s apparently no older adult supervision going on at the White House, and it shows.

Mind you, it’s not just Joe Biden biting babies, although that is indeed troubling for the Harris campaign as the election enters its homestretch. Instead, the more haunting thing may be Biden’s reckless mouth, out of which has come uncomfortable truths over the past month.

Unconvinced that saying “we gotta lock [Trump] up” did enough harm to Harris’ side, Biden used a Tuesday night to call Trump’s supporters “garbage,” only to — in a familiar move — have the White House transcript-takers try and save Biden from himself.

And now he’s back onto the uncomfortable moments with the kids.

One might be forgiven for thinking he actually wants Kamala to lose.

Biden Fitted With Muzzle So He Can’t Bite Any More Babies | Babylon Bee

Article Image

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Out of an abundance of caution, the White House confirmed Thursday that President Joe Biden had been fitted with a muzzle to prevent him from biting any more babies. This comes one day after a bizarre incident in which the president bit several babies at a White House Halloween event.

According to sources, Joe Biden told one child he was so adorable “I could just eat you up” and then proceeded to do so, horrifying dozens in attendance. The entire incident was caught on video.

Secret Service eventually intervened after parents complained.

Norma Higson, a mother in attendance, claims to have been mortified by the president’s behavior. “I wanted to show off his cute little Harry Potter costume and the president, out of nowhere, started biting his arm off!” she sobbed. “He needs his arm!”

The White House has been running damage control in the wake of the incident. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed the incident was “taken out of context” and that the president has “been very clear about how much he loves babies.” This statement prompted Fox News reporter Peter Doocy to say, “How much he loves eating them, you mean.” Jean-Pierre responded by calling the statement out of line and unprofessional.

“This is just a misunderstanding and, frankly, I think it’s being blown out of proportion. It’s MAGA gaslighting and it’s irresponsible,” the press secretary said. “But to assuage the concerns of the public, and to prove he is a president for all Americans, the president has agreed to wear a muzzle.”

At publishing time, sources confirm the president was sent to live on a nice farm upstate where he could roam free and bite whoever he wanted to.

Christianophobia Rising In West; Churches Attacked In Europe, North America (Worthy News Investigation) | World News – Worthy Christian News

By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News

BUDAPEST (Worthy News)— Islamophobia may make headlines in mainstream media, but it’s “Christianophobia” that is spreading like wildfire, with hundreds of churches being attacked across Europe and North America.

They are not yet among the 50 nations where the advocacy group Open Doors says Christians face the most persecution. Yet devoted Christians are increasingly under pressure in several Western countries, according to a Worthy News investigation.

The situation is most serious in Europe and related territories as hundreds of churches were burned down, vandalized, or graffitied in France and other Western European nations in recent years, including in 2024.

Several reports verified by Worthy News suggest that massive migration from mainly Islamic nations added to extremism toward devoted Christians in Europe.

In France alone in 2020, there were 613 cases of hate crimes against Christianity, said Virginie Joron, a French legislator in the European Parliament, citing police data.

Worthy News obtained written questions from the European Union’s executive, the European Commission, in which Joron wondered why the Commission appears reluctant to tackle anti-Christian attacks.

“In December 2015, the Commission established a European coordinator to combat anti-Muslim hatred in Europe and a coordinator to combat anti-Semitism and foster Jewish life. The Commission has not, however, appointed a coordinator to combat anti-Christian hatred,” she noticed.

‘EUROPE MEANS PEACE’

“Europe means peace. The dozens of church fires in France, conflagrations in the Cathedrals of Paris and Nantes, the beheading of women in Nice, priests’ throats cut by two Islamists, and a Rwandan applicant for refugee status who arrived illegally in 2012 and was not expelled tell a different story,” Joron wrote.

“In 2020, there were 613 attacks on Christians, 80 on Muslims, and 38 on Jewish places of worship. In view of the threats, there were armed police protecting Christmas celebrations in France. Yet neither the Commission nor the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights mentions anti-Christian crimes,” the legislator complained.

She wanted to know, “Why has the Commission not appointed a European coordinator to combat anti-Christian crimes, even though it has done so for other religions? After the controversy over the abolition of Christmas by Brussels, will the Commission finally include the fight against anti-Christian crimes in its missions and reports?”

Vice-President Věra Jourová said in separate remarks seen by Worthy News that “the Commission is committed to protect Christians and members of other religious groups from persecution within the EU and does not make any distinction between religious groups.”

However, she added that the “Commission has no plans as no plans as regards a specific strategy on Christophobia or to appoint a dedicated coordinator on this issue.”

That worries Jean-Paul Garraud, a French politician who has been serving as a member of the European Parliament since 2019. “At a time when Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world and a 70 percent surge in anti-Christian hate crimes between 2019 and 2020 in Europe, can the Commission explain why it does not intend to introduce a strategy or appoint a coordinator to combat christophobia?”

Critics link the reluctance to the growing influence of Muslim hardliners among millions of migrants from Islamic countries in Europe. Additionally, younger Muslims born in Europe were often educated according to strict Islamic traditions, say concerned experts.

‘HATEFUL RELIGION’

While there are many “moderate Muslims,” many also strictly observe Islam, which is “a disgusting, reprehensible, violent and hateful religion,” said Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders, whose PVV party won recent parliamentary elections.

He said he has endured “20 years of protection, safe houses, five fatwas, thousands of death threats.” He recalled that his visits “to many Islamic countries” taught him that “none of them” are free societies.

Wilders has long warned that unlimited Muslim migration will eventually lead to more hatred toward Christians, Jews, as well as women and gays, regardless of their religious background.

He is close friends with rightwing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who shares his views about the perceived dangers of massive Muslim immigration.

Orbán is concerned about data predicting the Muslim population in Europe to reach about 10 percent by 2050, nearly doubling their numbers now. Muslims will outnumber Christians worldwide by 2070, according to these forecasts.

Amid a rising Islam, Orbán set up the world’s first government secretariat dedicated to Christian persecution.

It has been active in countries far away, including the Middle East and Africa, but may soon be needed in Europe, investigative journalists and researchers suggest. “There is Christian persecution by Islamists in Europe today,” said journalist Rupert Shortt in The New Culture Forum video on YouTube. “We are witnessing two attacks per day on churches in France.

KNIVES USED

“You get knives being stuck through the throat of statues of the Virgin Mary,” Shortt adds. “You get a great deal of graffiti on the walls with slogans like ‘Submit to Allah or else’ or ‘Abandon your idolatry.’”

Mahyar Tousi, who runs a conservative news channel on YouTube, said that

“If they were mosques [being burned down or otherwise attacked], there would be outrage. The political establishment would launch an investigation. There would be media coverage 24/7. The liberal governments of Western Europe would come out to say, ‘It’s the rise of Islamophobia.’”

Yet “when it’s the other way around” when attacks on churches are reported, “not only do they not talk about it in media… nobody is seeking any sort of investigation. Why is this happening? We know that a lot of the churches in France were attacked because of the rise of Islamism.”

As Muslim immigrants flood France, Britain, Germany, and other Western European nations, at least some seem to get bolder in threats to take over democratic, non-Muslim societies.

In an online video, British Bangladeshi Dilwar Hussain recently discussed options for a coup, whether by proselytization, jihad, a coup, or a combination.

Representatives of churches have expressed concern about the growing number of Islamists and other opponents of the Christian faith in Europe.

‘CROSS OFFENSIVE’

Expert Raymond Ibrahim’s book Sword and Scimitar documents a 1,400-year-old tendency to destroy, desecrate, pillage, rape, and enslave by the expansionist, militarist Muslims. He suggests that Europeans have broken from their religious past, while Islamists see the present as a continuation of history.

Commentator Tom Holland, a non-Christian, agrees. He recalled being shocked to see the destruction of churches in areas where the Islamic State group fighters retreated. “What is it about the cross that is so offensive that extremists resort to unprintable barbarism?”

Christianity has also become “a symbol of colonization” to some, which is a suspected motive behind a recent wave of arson attacks on churches occurring on an island in the Pacific Ocean.

Four Catholic churches were reportedly torched in recent months in the French overseas territory of New Caledonia. Violence erupted in May this year when the indigenous Kanaks launched a push for independence.

The most recent arson attack occurred on August 14 when a series of fires were started in a church in the town of Poindimé, destroying the sacristy, altar, chapel, and furniture, Catholic sources said.

The Kanaks’ independence movement condemned the attacks. According to church estimates, over 52 percent of New Caledonia’s 270,000 population are baptized, including many Kanaks, who are also regular churchgoers.

Protestants from the London Missionary Society were the first to arrive in New Caledonia in the middle of the 19th century, followed by the Catholic Marist Brothers.

‘AZERBAIJAN INVOLVED’

Since the 1970s, New Caledonia’s main Protestant Church, which has a membership of nearly 40,000 Kanaks, has favored independence; the Catholic Church has always remained neutral.

There is also a belief among some that the arsonists burning Catholic churches in New Caledonia are encouraged by Azerbaijan, a mainly Muslim nation. “It has made no secret of its strategy to undermine French influence in the region after the Paris government supported [mainly Christian ] Armenia in its conflict with Azerbaijan,” commented the Catholic Herald, one of the world’s oldest Catholic publications.

Among the churches attacked in mainland France this year was the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Saint-Omer, in the Pas-de-Calais department of northern France. It was ravaged by arson on the night of September 2.

“In all of human history, there has never been a civilization that has so opened its doors to another civilization that is openly hostile to it,” Raymond Ibrahim told a Danish conference, ASSIST News Service (ANS) recalled. “Your ancestors of Europe fought tooth and nail to prevent Islam from entering and conquering Europe. This was the Muslims’ actual goal. Now Western Europe is saying: ‘None of that matters. It was all a misunderstanding. Come on in.’ But they [Muslims] haven’t changed that mentality.”

Ibrahim is a Christian, which critics could argue may impact his views. However, ANS, a Christian news agency, noted that this can’t be said of Areesha Babar.

Areesha, a Pakistan rights activist who fled to Germany, condemned the anti-Christian sentiments among Muslims she observed in the German refugee camp where she stays. “The majority of the refugees here are Muslim, and they have some sort of hate. The men from Pakistan try to harass you. If you’re not willing to integrate, why are you moving here? They look at Germans and laugh and say, ‘These are kafur (a derogatory term for unbelievers). Many of them think, eventually, the population will rise and take over.”

Commentators suggest these concerns could serve as a warning for the United States, where illegal migration has become a significant issue ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.

NATIONWIDE ASSAULT

A report earlier this year by the Family Research Council outlined an “alarming rise” in acts of arson and vandalism against churches in the United States in 2023; there were 436 such acts reported, double the number in 2022.

It constituted a nationwide assault, encompassing 48 States, with only Hawaii and Wyoming spared, researchers said.

California reported the most significant number of attacks, 33, “a clue perhaps to the perpetrators of the profanity,” the Catholic Herald noticed.

“The Golden State is the cradle of radical Progressivism, an enemy of the Church which in its turn embodies the principles of “faith, family and flag” that are so viscerally abhorrent to the liberal Left,” the paper commented.

Canada has also experienced church attacks since the claim in 2021 that mass graves of Indigenous children had been found at the Marieval Indian Residential School.

It was part of the Canadian Indian residential school system in Marieval Saskatchewan.

Although still being investigated, the Catholic Church, which in most cases was responsible for running residential schools, was blamed.

CHURCHES DESTROYED

In the last two years, 96 churches have been burned, vandalized, and destroyed in Canada.

The culprits are believed to be “a mix of far-left extremists and wayward youths from Native reservations,” the Catholic Herald reported.

One of the first churches to be burned to the ground in July 2021 was St Gregory’s Church in British Columbia, Canada.

Native American Chief Clarence Louie of the Osoyoos Indian Band condemned the attack, saying: “I don’t think white people came here and burned this down.”

Yet it was another reminder of the growing hatred in the West toward the Christian faith and the institutions that claim to represent Christianity.

Kids At Tim Walz’s Door Disappointed As He Fills Candy Bags With Tampons | Babylon Bee

ST. PAUL, MN — Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz disappointed trick-or-treaters at his door this year by handing them tampons instead of the traditional candy.

“Here you go! I’m sure you little girls and boys or whatever you identify as will love a few Tampax-brand tampons,” Walz told the costumed children at his door. “I know you little they/thems could definitely use some feminine products. Hugs!”

Trick-or-treaters admitted the offerings let them down a bit but the tampons were a pretty predictable handout from the Walz house.

“Mr. Walz is always trying to give us tampons,” local 13-year-old boy Evan Gessel commented. “‘I have no idea what to do with them, I have like 300 in my closet at home but he keeps giving them to me…not just on Halloween”

Other kids mentioned wanting to avoid the Walz’s house on their trick-or-treating route but feeling awkwardly compelled to stop by and take a tampon.

“Mr. Walz followed me and my brother down the street with a giant box of pads and a fistful of tampons,” 12-year-old Macey Ferguson said. “We told him we were ok but he insisted we take them and then told us he was an ally or something like that-I was so confused.”

At publishing time, Walz could be seen throwing tampons at the kids egging his house.

Five Frightening Financial Charts To Fear This Halloween! | ZeroHedge

Authored by Joe Sullivan-Bissett via BondVigilantes.com,

As Halloween approaches, it’s not just ghosts and ghouls that are causing fear – financial markets are also giving us plenty of reasons to be spooked. From crumbling consumer confidence to rising debt burdens, the economic landscape is littered with eerie signs of instability.

In this year’s roundup, we explore five charts that reveal unsettling trends in global markets. While surface-level data may look reassuring, a deeper dive shows that the scariest threats could be the ones lurking just out of sight…

Happy Halloween!

1. Cars and houses? … Too scary a proposition

Source: M&G, University of Michigan, Bloomberg, as at October 2024

According to University of Michigan surveys, consumers view this as the worst time in 40 years to buy a house or car – a worrying sign for consumer intent. Big purchases like these can be crucial drivers of economic growth, and with buying intent so low, we could be underestimating the severity of the slowdown.

As consumer intent wobbles, could the labour market be telling its own tale of uncertainty?

2. Employees frightened to quit; companies frightened to hire

Source: M&G, Bloomberg, as at October 2024

The US labour market appears healthy, especially after September’s non-farm payrolls exceeded economists’ expectations and unemployment fell to 4.1%. However, beneath the surface, both hiring and quits rates have dropped to levels typically seen in recessions. Companies are hesitant to hire full-time workers, and employees are reluctant to quit due to job security concerns and fewer opportunities available. These signs of weakness suggest that the effects of restrictive monetary policy may be more severe than the headline labour market numbers imply.

It may not be just the labour market – economic fragility is reverberating through the economy, driven by the enduring grip of monetary policy…

3. The howl of restrictive rates reverberating through the economy

Source: M&G, Bloomberg, as at October 2024

Monetary policy was restrictive for a long time, and since it works with a lag, its effects are only now becoming evident. Although central banks have begun easing, policy remains more restrictive than what might be deemed neutral, and this is impacting both businesses and consumers. In the US, Chapter 11 filings are rising steadily, while credit card delinquencies over 90 days are climbing to levels last seen following the Global Financial Crisis. Until monetary policy significantly loosens, these trends may continue to persist.

While economic and financial pressures mount, are all risks being priced into credit markets?

4. ‘Not so high’-yield vs investment grade

Source: M&G, Bloomberg, as at October 2024

Despite the unsettling warning signs, credit markets are pricing in minimal risk of a major slowdown, let alone a recession that could significantly impact credit fundamentals. In fact, the spread between investment grade and high yield bonds has narrowed to just under 2.7% — the lowest level since 2006. Could investors be underestimating the potential for economic turbulence ahead?

Beyond the bond markets, another haunting issue brews in the form of rising government debt…

5. The growing cauldron of global government debt is ferociously bubbling

Source: M&G, Bloomberg, as at October 2024

It’s no surprise that global government debt levels have been steadily rising, but it’s worth highlighting how concerning this trend is. In the UK, for example, public sector net debt as a percentage of GDP is alarmingly high. High debt can impact growth by diverting government spending away from productive investments toward debt servicing. It may also force central banks to consider fiscal risks when raising interest rates, as aggressive hikes could destabilise public finances.

With current debt levels resembling those seen during recessions, will governments be able to respond when the next downturn hits?

EXECUTIVE NEWS SUMMARY

Douglas Andrews, Thomas Gallatin, & Jordan Candler

Politics

  • “Harris defeats Trump” in PA: A local ABC News station in Joe Biden’s Scranton, Pennsylvania, ran a chyron on Sunday during the airing of a Formula 1 race that showed Kamala Harris defeating Donald Trump in the Keystone State by a margin of 52% to 47%. It included an exact tally of votes, 3,293,712 for Harris and 2,997,793 for Trump, with 100% of votes reported. That percentage is a far better outcome for Harris than polling has been indicating, with the latest RCP polling average showing Trump leading in the battleground state by nearly a point. The news station, WNEP, responded to the incident by claiming it was simply running a “test” and that the chyron should not have appeared on the screen. The state further claimed that the results shown had been randomly generated by the test and were not indicative of any actual vote tallies. News stations do run tests to prepare for election coverage, but this incident doesn’t help with those already wary of potential election fraud.
  • Did Harris just surrender North Carolina? The Harris campaign has pulled nearly $2 million in planned ad spending in North Carolina, leading to speculation that she’s giving up on winning the only battleground state that has repeatedly gone for Donald Trump. Bolstering this view is the surprising development showing that Republican voters have turned out en masse in early voting numbers. Historically, Democrat turnout dominates early voting numbers, but that has not been the case this election cycle as Republican turnout has increased, outnumbering total Democrat turnout by over 10,000 votes. Meanwhile, Democrat early voter turnout is down nearly 7% from previous election cycles. These numbers do not bode well for Harris’s chances of flipping North Carolina, and it appears her campaign will focus more of its spending on the Rust Belt battleground states.
  • CNN election expert says signs were there for Trump all along: Harry Enten has been a canary in the leftist coal mine for some time now. As a senior political analyst for CNN, Enten specializes in digging into the numbers. And when he does, he keeps coming to the same conclusion: Trump. In a recent X post, Enten lists three factors that point strongly toward a Trump win: “No incumbent party has won another term with so few voters saying the country is on the right track (28%) or when the president’s net approval rating is so low (Biden’s at -15 pts). Also, big GOP registration gains in key states.” Enten checked the data going back to 1980, and the average right-track score for a losing incumbent since then is 25%. And the average right-track score for a winning incumbent since then is 42%. As Enten points out, today’s Biden-Harris right-track number looks a lot more like the former than the latter. Indeed, he adds: “There isn’t a single time in which 28% of the American public thinks the country is going on the right track, in which the incumbent party actually won. They always lose.”
  • An anti-Trump Republican comes home: One thing about Donald Trump: He doesn’t elicit lukewarm reactions. Folks tend to either love him or loathe him, and they vote accordingly. But a USA Today op-ed merits consideration because it represents how certain outlying Republicans might be coming around to Trump, even if their personal feelings toward him aren’t favorable. “I don’t like Trump,” says columnist Nicole Russell, “but I’m voting for him.” It’s simple. “There’s so much at stake,” she explains. “Three things matter to me in this election: foreign policy, the economy and border security. Trump has shown he can handle all of these.” She’s right about that, and she’s also right that Kamala Harris doesn’t present a plausible alternative to those who share her concerns. Why? Because she’s weak on policy and way too radical. Russell concludes: “Millions of voters are drawn to Trump because he seems pro-America, pro-military and pro-life. To these conservatives — a majority of the 74.2 million Americans who voted for him in 2020 — Trump is a fighter, a two-time survivor of assassination attempts and a symbol of the American dream. I don’t see Trump in that way, but I understand the views of those who do.”
  • This just in: Late-night comics hate Trump The mainstream media no doubt dread a second Trump term, but they might want to look at the bright side: It’ll be good for business. It’s a sad truism that Trump hatred sells news, and the same can be said for late-night “comedy,” whose purveyors have fallen on hard times during the past three and a half years. Why? Because they’re unable to ridicule the worst presidential administration in modern American history. But with Donald Trump, hope springs eternal. As OutKick reports: “Media Research Center reviewed every joke told on late-night television from September 3 through October 25 [from] 136 episodes of … Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers.” And what did they find? “A total of 1,463 jokes about the two candidates running for president. Of these, 1,428 of the jokes were targeted at Donald Trump. Meaning, just 35 were told about Kamala Harris. That’s a ratio of 40:1, or almost 98 percent to 2 percent.” To quote Joe Biden, “No joke!”
  • ActBlue subpoenaed: The House’s investigation into one of the Democrats’ largest donor platforms, ActBlue, has expanded over concerns of illicit foreign funding during the 2024 election cycle. The House Oversight and Accountability Committee has formally subpoenaed ActBlue. As Chairman James Comer explained, “Although Treasury has not yet produced any records, it is currently reviewing hundreds of potentially responsive records according to three video conference calls between Committee and Treasury staff since the initial request.” The committee is seeking documents and communications between ActBlue and potential foreign actors representing Iran, Russia, Venezuela, and China. The letter notes that ActBlue’s “platform did not require contributors to provide their CVV when making an online contribution in all transactions.” Members of the committee have also requested that the Treasury Department, the FBI, and National Intelligence provide access to Suspicious Activity Reports related to funding that has passed through ActBlue. The concern is that ActBlue has been engaged in straw donations, using the identity of U.S. citizens and money from another person to cover up potentially illegal donations from foreign sources.

Culture

  • NY’s “Equal Rights Amendment” is a leftist Trojan horse: Voters in New York will vote on a constitutional amendment dubbed Proposal 1, billed as a response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade to enshrine abortion rights in the Empire State. The problem is that Proposal 1 is much more than merely enshrining abortion rights; rather, it’s a deceptive effort to codify the radical Left’s DEI, transgenderism, and noncitizen-rights agenda into the state’s constitution. Proposal 1 would eliminate any distinction between adults and minors when it comes to gender-bending treatments and nullify any parental consent for minors wanting such “care.” It would enshrine self-declared gender identity as a constitutional protection, thereby preventing the protection of female sports and spaces. The proposal would codify New York as a permanent sanctuary state, and all local governments would be required to provide benefits for illegal aliens regardless of budgeting concerns. Proposal 1 would also grant voting rights to noncitizens in New York City. The fact of the matter is that Proposal 1 would systematically alter the state constitution and enslave it to the promulgation of a radical leftist worldview.

Security

  • What illegal immigrant crime wave? A May 29 article from the leftist Brennan Center for Justice didn’t age well. Its title is “Debunking the Myth of the ‘Migrant Crime Wave.’” Their argument is a hardy perennial of the Left: “The research does not support the view that immigrants commit crime or are incarcerated at higher rates than native-born Americans. In fact, immigrants might have less law enforcement contact compared to nonimmigrants.” These folks might want to re-check their numbers, or perhaps just open their eyes to the rapes and murders. As Steven Malanga points out in a devastating City Journal piece: “Much of the mainstream media and immigration advocates … accuse conservatives of making it all up. Headlines like ‘The Myth of the Migrant Crime Wave,’ ‘Migrant Crime Wave Not Supported by Data,’ and ‘Immigrants Are Less Likely to Commit Crimes’ have been common, especially after Trump made immigrant crime a 2024 campaign issue.” Malanga goes on to list one criminal enterprise after another. For example, Mexican gangs have invaded the northern border state of Montana, Chinese gangs have cornered the pot market in Oklahoma, and Chilean burglary tourism is catching on across the country. But no. No crime wave to see here.

Misc.

  • A Chinese student is facing criminal charges for voting in Michigan, but the state has no way of tracking his ballot so they’re counting it (Not the Bee)

FEATURED ANALYSIS

Is This the Funniest Closing Election Week Ever?

Nate Jackson

In the closing days of this election, which campaign is having more fun, exuding more joy?

It’s certainly not Kamala Harris’s JOY!™ campaign. Donald Trump, the guy who got shot in July and avoided a second attempt on his life in September, is having the time of his life.

Joe Biden said, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”

The next day, Trump responded by showing up to a Green Bay rally and donning an orange reflective vest before climbing into a garbage truck with his campaign sign plastered across the side. CNN had to break away from normal news programming to cover the hilarity. He conducted a press conference from the passenger’s seat (memo to Joe: that’s singular possessive), where he said the show was “in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.” He then gave his entire stump speech while still wearing the vest.

“I have to begin by saying 250 million Americans are not garbage!” he said to a roaring crowd. “You can’t lead America if you don’t love Americans! You can’t be president if you hate the American people, which I believe they do.”

The Orange-Vested Man is good at this.

Just like Donald’s McDonald’s run last week, the garbage truck was absolutely brilliant political theater. Yes, just like showing up to McDonald’s to “work” a shift, waving to vetted supporters out the drive-thru window, climbing into a garbage truck and then delivering a campaign speech with an orange vest was staged.

Note to the Leftmedia “fact-checkers”: We all know Trump didn’t actually work at the frier or pick up trash, but thanks for looking into it.

What was Joe Biden doing last night? Biting babies at a Halloween party.

Kamala Harris was in Raleigh, North Carolina, for a rally. At least she didn’t do anything cringeworthy like that moment when the crowd was chanting her name and she stopped them to say they should all chant their own names. Boy, is she bad at this.

“Joy” was always an ill-fitting garment for Democrats, who had ousted their stubborn-old-man incumbent when he didn’t stick to the script and bow out gracefully. The deplorable old man was bitterly clinging to power, and he’s now dumping garbage all over Kamala’s joyful and unifying fearmongering anti-Nazi campaign, his argument about grammar and apostrophes notwithstanding.

Trump and Republicans responded with mockery and humor, not with outrage as the Leftmedia framed it. NPR went back to the well for its initial headline: “Republicans pounce on Biden’s ‘garbage’ remarks.” Now the headline reads, “Harris urged unity in her closing argument. Biden’s ‘garbage’ line undercut that.”

Harris had already undercut her own phony “unity” message with the whole Nazi/fascist thing last week. Just like Biden spent almost four years undercutting his Inaugural promises of “unity” with the same Nazi/fascist nonsense.

Democrats are angry. They hate Donald Trump — and, as we knew all along, his “garbage” supporters.

As Trump put it last night, “For the past nine years, Kamala and her party have called us racists, bigots, fascists, deplorables, irredeemables, Nazis, and they called me Hitler. They’ve bullied you, they’ve demonized us, they’ve censored us, they’ve deplatformed us, and they weaponized the power of our own government against all of us.”

The bottom line is that one side is motivated by envy, anger, and hatred. The other side is motivated by love of country and just plain loves to laugh.

SHORT CUTS

For the Record

“Whether you believe that when Joe Biden said, ‘The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,’ he meant ‘supporters,’ plural, or ‘supporter’s,’ referring to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, it’s always been abundantly clear that when Biden discusses ‘the need for us to lower the temperature in our politics,’ he means other people should lower the temperature, and in particular, people on the right should ‘lower the temperature’ in their criticism of those on the left.” —Jim Geraghty

“So a comedian not affiliated with Trump’s campaign makes a joke about a PLACE, but Joe Biden just called at least 75 million American PEOPLE garbage.” —Chad Prather

“Let’s be clear: It is what almost every Democrat elected official actually believes.” —political analyst Mark Halperin

Sister Souljah Moment

“[Biden] clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for.” —Kamala Harris

“The president’s clarified his remark, but let’s be very clear: The vice president and I have made it absolutely clear that we want everyone as a part of this. Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric is what needs to end.” —Tim Walz

Double Standards

Belly Laughs of the Day

“I believe that the work that I do is about representing all the people, whether they support me or not. And as president of the United States, I will be a president for all Americans, whether you vote for me or not.” —Kamala Harris, whose boss, Joe Biden, said the same thing

“I will always tell you the truth even if it is difficult to hear.” —Kamala Harris

Word Salad

“I’m gonna tell you what I’m doing as president when I have the ability, then, to do what I know based on my experience is a new approach that is about building on the good work that has happened.” —Kamala Harris

Re: The Left

“That Harris now feels compelled to disavow so many of the ideas that she once embraced is powerful testament to their political toxicity. … Joe Biden wouldn’t have won the presidency in 2020 if he’d been woke, and Kamala Harris wouldn’t be locked in a tight race now if she were still running on her erstwhile causes.” —Rich Lowry

“It’s deliriously funny that The Washington Post jumped into a cauldron of boiling angst by refusing to endorse Kamala Harris for president. The decision is deeply weird. It’s like McDonald’s declining to advocate for hamburgers.” —Tim Graham

“There were Orthodox Jews in attendance at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, praying in the aisles and even wrapping tefillin. Meanwhile, Jews had to meet in secret at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago to stay one step ahead of the pro-Hamas wing of Harris’ party.” —Ian Haworth

And Last…

“I walked into the kitchen this morning and said, ‘The only garbage I see is my kids,’ and when they started crying, I tried to explain that there was an apostrophe.” —Charlie Spiering

Israel Faces Retaliation Threats from Iran Amid US-Brokered Ceasefire Proposal

Less than a week after Israel’s attack on Iran, Iranian lawmakers are publicly discussing retaliation against Israel, hinting that an attack could be imminent, possibly even before the upcoming U.S. election.

Iranian parliament member Ali Khazaei declared, “They should expect a response that will make them regret everything. They will not dare act like this again.”

Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s new leader, Naim Qassem, has issued his own threat against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but has indicated that Hezbollah is open to a ceasefire in the war in Lebanon if Israel halts its operations. “If the Israelis decide to stop the aggression, we say that we accept,” Qassem stated.
