The deadening effect of religious make-believe on the human mind is beyond all describing.
What can the effect be upon the spectators who live day after day among the professed Christians who habitually ignore the commandments of Christ and live after their own private notions of Christianity?
Truth sits forsaken and grieves until her professed followers come home for a brief visit, but she sees them depart again when the bills become due. They protest great and undying love for her but they will not let their love cost them anything!
Will not those who watch us from day to day conclude that the whole thing is false?
Will they not be forced to believe that the faith of Christ is an unreal and visionary thing which they are fully justified in rejecting?
Certainly the non-Christian is not too much to be blamed if he turns disgustedly away from the invitation of the Gospel after he has been exposed for a while to the inconsistencies of those of his acquaintances who profess to follow Christ.
In that great and terrible day when the deeds of men are searched into by the penetrating eyes of the Judge of all the earth what will we answer when we are charged with inconsistency and moral fraud?
And at whose door will lie the blame for millions of lost men who while they lived on earth were sickened and revolted by the religious travesty they knew as Christianity?1
My soul! it is a blessed thing to arrive at a fixed point, on the momentous concern of “the one thing needful.” As long as there remains any doubt or uncertainty whether Christ be the soul’s portion or not, there is always a proportioned degree of doubt and uncertainty in the soul’s comfort. What the dying patriarch said to his son, may with equal truth be said of every one of this description: “Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel.” (Gen. 49:4.) For as long as the soul forms conclusions of safety, not from what Jesus is, but from what the soul’s views of Jesus are, there will be always an unstable, unsettled state. And how many have I known, who are of doubtful mind whether they really do believe to the salvation of the soul, and yet have no doubt whether they be sinners, and both need and earnestly desire that salvation. They will tell you that Jesus is more precious than the golden wedge of Ophir; but they tell you, at the same time, they dare not say that they have an interest in his blood and righteousness. They see a loveliness in his person, and a suitableness to their necessities, in every point of view; but they cannot presume to hope that they do enjoy either. They can and do cry out, under the thirst of the soul, for Jesus, as David did for the waters of Bethlehem; but still, like David, they do not make use of the blessing, though it be procured them. My soul! it is blessed to live above doubts and fears, by living upon Jesus. The assurance of faith is founded in what Jesus is, and not what his people feel; in what view God the Father beholds Christ as the sinner’s surety, and not what our apprehensions are concerning our present feelings. Faith is most strong where sense is most weak! and the glory given to Jesus is greater, when, like Abraham, “against hope, we believe in hope.” Blessed Lord Jesus! let the faith of my soul be the one fixed unalterable faith, that admits of no doubt nor change. Let me, with full purpose of heart, cleave unto the Lord. And while I can and do behold, through thy Spirit’s teaching me, the Father’s appointment and approbation, in all thy work and finished salvation: here let me fix, and never be of doubtful mind, but live and die in the full assurance of faith, well pleased with what my God and Father is well pleased with, and always “rejoicing in the hope of the glory of God!”1
If a Christian can by possibility be saved while he conforms to this world, at any rate it must be so as by fire. Such a bare salvation is almost as much to be dreaded as desired. Reader, would you wish to leave this world in the darkness of a desponding death bed, and enter heaven as a shipwrecked mariner climbs the rocks of his native country? then be worldly; be mixed up with Mammonites, and refuse to go without the camp bearing Christ’s reproach. O professor, too little separated from sinners, you know not what you lose by your conformity to the world. It cuts the tendons of your strength, and makes you creep where you ought to run. Then, for your own comfort’s sake, and for the sake of your growth in grace, if you be a Christian, be a Christian, and be a marked and distinct one.1

Gambling hardens the heart, none but gamblers could have been brutish enough to rattle dice where the blood of Jesus was falling. The very sound of dice and the sight of cards should be loathed by a follower of the Crucified.

Jeremiah 28:3 — Hananiah the son of Azur was a morale booster. Today we call his work PsyOps. And while it was lauded by the king, it would be worthy of death by God (Deuteronomy 18:20-22). Hananiah’s prophecy was two years out. The prophecy of Jeremiah was time sensitive. How would the people know who was the right prophet?
Jeremiah 28:16 — Jeremiah prophesied that Hananiah would be dead within the year, even though Hananiah prophesied there would be peace within two years.
Interestingly, in recent times John Alexander Dowie, founder of Zion, Illinois, entered into a prayer duel with the founder of Ahmadiyya.
A bizarre sidelight on Dowie’s later years is that he became embroiled in an acrimonious public dispute with a controversial Indian Muslim religious figure, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, founder of the Ahmadiyya movement. In 1903 they engaged in a widely publicized prayer duel, each calling upon God to punish the other to expose him as a false prophet. Ahmad and his followers proclaimed Dowie’s rapidly ensuing illness, disgrace, and death as a vindication of their religious beliefs. Ahmad died in 1908, a year later than Dowie.
Jeremiah 29:2 — It is strange that we see the eunuchs mentioned here. This is another pagan practice that had been adopted by Israel. Deuteronomy 23:1 declared that castration prevented a man from the assembly of the LORD. Why would a political leader cut off his advisers from the LORD? An attempt to be like the surrounding nations? Then again, the people offered their children to Baal as burnt offerings (Jeremiah 19:5) and castrated their advisers.
Jeremiah 29:5-7 — This is good advice for us today. We are away from our true home. Jeremiah 29:10 says that the Israelites will be in captivity for 70 years. Interestingly, Psalm 90:10 talks about our threescore and ten (70) years on earth before we go to our New Jerusalem (Revelation 21)! The “United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing,” better known as Shakers, believed that Jesus was coming back so soon that they did not need to “bear sons and daughters” (Jeremiah 29:6). Even today many talk about how they can’t imagine bringing children into the world.
What are we to do? Prepare to stay awhile through:
personal comforts (build houses)
profits (plant gardens)
procreation (take wives, bear sons and daughters)
politics (seek the peace of the city)
Yes, God is okay with you living in a nice house, having a 401k, bringing children into this world, voting, volunteering on a campaign, donating to a candidate, or even running for office yourself! BUT …
Jeremiah 29:10 — There is something better coming (taking you to the New Jerusalem)! That is the expected end. We can enjoy this present life but remember to call upon the LORD (Jeremiah 29:12). Someday, just like Israel, we will be gathered in as well (Jeremiah 29:14).
Jeremiah 29:22 — That is a vivid image of the end of a false prophet!

Oh, that these happy times were come! At present the nations are heavily armed and are inventing weapons more and more terrible, as if the chief end of man could only be answered by destroying myriads of his fellows. Yet peace will prevail one day; yes, and so prevail that the instruments of destruction shall be beaten into other shapes and used for better purposes.
How will this come about? By trade? By civilization? By arbitration? We do not believe it. Past experience forbids our trusting to means so feeble. Peace will be established only by the reign of the Prince of Peace. He must teach the people by His Spirit, renew their hearts by His grace, and reign over them by His supreme power, and then will they cease to wound and kill. Man is a monster when once his blood is up, and only the Lord Jesus can turn this lion into a lamb. By changing man’s heart, his bloodthirsty passions are removed. Let every reader of this book of promises offer special prayer today to the Lord and Giver of Peace that He would speedily put an end to war and establish concord over the whole world.
To me a black box represents anything that I have no idea how it works. For example, the computer I am typing this devotional on is a black box since I really have no idea how it works. Yes, I know that electricity and microchips somehow combine in an amazing way to allow me to compose black letters on a white background, but I still have little knowledge of this very sophisticated process.
Back in Darwin’s day when the theory of evolution became of age the human cell was also a black box. Darwin, as well as the leading scientists of his time, knew little about cellular biology. The human cell was just a blob of protoplasm that didn’t need to be understood to support Darwin’s theory.
However, unlike most theories, the theory of evolution still remains today, even though when new knowledge is found out, revisions are often made and sometimes old theories are completely abandoned. Clearly, what we now know about the complexity of human cells, should have sounded the death knell to the theory of evolution, however, the theory still stands today as the predominant explanation on college campuses on how life began.
But today the black box of the human cell has been opened and its contents scream for a divine Creator as the Author of human and for that matter all of life. Phillip E. Johnson astutely commented on the black box of biological systems when he shared: “Evolutionary biologists have been able to pretend to know how complex biological systems originated only because they treated them as black boxes. Now that biochemists have opened the black boxes and seen what is inside, they know the Darwinian theory is just a story, not a scientific explanation.”1
Apologist Frank Turek additionally states: “Scientists of Darwin’s day saw the cell as little more than a simple blob of protoplasm. They thought natural laws could perhaps create such a cell. But the science of today shows that the cell is a world of astonishing complexity containing all sorts of microscopic machinery and thousands of pages of genetic programming. If atheists could offer a naturalistic explanation for this, they would. Instead, they can do little more than belch insults or offer unsupported speculations that, even if true, do nothing to solve the problem.”2
In our world today there are still many black boxes that scientists are still trying to peer into. There, however, can no longer be any serious debate that evolution can’t explain the progression from amoeba to mammal to man, let alone how life came about in the first place. It is a bankrupt theory that ignores the contents of the black box of the human cell – once it became known – and instead hides behind a theory of make-believe, with not a shred of scientific evidence to support it.
In closing, molecular biologist Michael Behe concludes that even though God has fearfully and wonderfully created us, and told us that life is no longer a black box, thanks to the creation story of the Bible, scientists still haven’t a clue how life originated. According to Behe: “In private many scientists admit that science has no explanation for the beginning of life…Darwin never imagined the exquisitely profound complexity that exists even at the most basic levels of life.”3

Border Patrol union endorses Trump: In news that should surprise no one, the National Border Patrol Council, the official union representing the U.S. Border Patrol, on Sunday announced its endorsement of Donald Trump. During a campaign rally in Prescott Valley, Arizona, Trump informed the crowd, stating that he was “honored,” adding, “They said it was unanimous. Thousands of people.” He then invited on stage Council President Paul Perez, who said, “If we allow border czar Harris to win this election, every city, every community in this great country is going to go to hell. The untold millions of people unvetted, who she has allowed into this country [and] that are committing murders, rapes, robberies, burglaries, and every other crime, will continue to put our country in peril.” He added, “Only one man can fix that. That is Donald J. Trump.” It appears that Kamala Harris’s brief border tour stunt a couple of weeks ago failed to convince those on the front lines that she would actually make any policy changes and enforce America’s border laws.

As it turns out, a man who was arrested at a checkpoint to get into Trump’s California rally on Saturday evening was actually a Trump supporter who tends to travel with his guns. The suspect, 49-year-old Vem Miller, was arrested but then quickly released on $5,000 bail. “I always travel around with my firearms in the back of my truck,” said Miller. “I’ve literally never even shot a gun in my life. I don’t know anything about guns. I am beyond a novice,” Miller added. In any case, “I’m 100% a Trump supporter.” To this point, no federal charges have been filed against him, and it’s perhaps understandable that the media would screw this up. After all, assassination attempts on Trump have practically been normalized by the Democrats and their Leftmedia fellow travelers.

And they say Trump is the existential threat to democracy: The key to understanding Democrats is that they tend to accuse their political opponents of doing exactly what they themselves are doing. A famous case in point would be Hillary Clinton having accused Donald Trump of Russian collusion during the 2016 election when it was Clinton herself who colluded with Russians on the dirty and discredited Steele dossier. Another example comes to us just recently as leading House Democrats have expressed, er, reluctance to certify a Trump victory in the November 5 election. As Axios reports: “House Democrats railed against House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for hedging on whether a GOP-controlled House would certify a Kamala Harris victory. But some of their senior members are playing a similar game.” Leading the would-be election deniers is Illinois Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, who in 2005 voted to object to George W. Bush electors and more recently said of Trump, “I don’t know what kind of shenanigans he is planning,” adding: “We would have to, in any election … make sure that all the rules have been followed.” Be forewarned. If the Democrats lose, they won’t lose with dignity.
Youngkin blasts DOJ for election interference: If there were ever a doubt about which political party relies on cheating to win elections, the Biden-Harris Justice Department removed it by suing the Commonwealth of Virginia for its efforts to clean up state voter rolls. The state’s popular Republican governor, Glenn Youngkin, expressed frustration with the DOJ’s lawsuit, which claims that Virginia’s voting integrity efforts violate the federal prohibition on systematic efforts to remove voters within 90 days of an election. Call us naïve, but it seems that ineligible voters should be removed right up until Election Day. As the Washington Examiner reports, “Youngkin signed an executive order requiring the commissioner of the Department of Elections to certify that the department was conducting ‘daily updates to the voter list’ to purge the voter rolls of people who are unable to verify that they are citizens to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.” Youngkin called the “unprecedented lawsuit” an “attack” and election interference, “with less than 30 days until the election,” no less. He noted that he’s only “enforcing a 2006 law signed by Democrat Tim Kaine that requires Virginia to remove noncitizens from the voter rolls.”

Trump to appear on Rogan’s podcast: A clear sign that the rise of new media is sizable and holds a growing sway over public opinion has been the number of podcast interviews both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have engaged in throughout this election season. Well, Trump will soon appear on the biggest podcast out there, “The Joe Rogan Experience.” Last week, he was on the “Full Send” podcast, his second time on the show, and he was asked by host Kyle Forgeard, “You’re doing a lot of podcasts recently. One that I would love to see you on — I think Joe Rogan has to have you on. Would you do that?” Trump answered, “I think I’m doing it, actually.” Forgeard responded, “Joe Rogan’s the best in the game for sure. He’s an honest guy, too.” Trump agreed, “He is. Good guy. He’s got a good voice; that’s important.” Rogan has not confirmed that he will interview Trump. However, on X, he certainly hinted at it with the following message: “Do you want to see [Donald Trump] on the podcast?”
Desperate Kamala’s blasphemous “Detroit” ad: We’re not sure what’s in the water up in Michigan, but it’s making Democrats sick. In the head. The ad finishes with the narrator saying, “As to … when [Donald Trump] says, ‘Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president’ … he should be so G*d damn lucky.” As if to leave no doubt as to who’s to blame for the blasphemy, we hear a familiar voice immediately afterward: “I’m Kamala Harris, and I approve this message.”

Private property anti-2A NY law struck down: A federal judge in New York has struck down the state’s recent anti-Second Amendment law as an unconstitutional infringement on the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. The law in question banned licensed firearm owners from carrying a gun on private property unless the owner of the property had explicitly expressed permission to do so via a sign. U.S. District Judge John Sinatra wrote, “At least as to private property open to the public (the subject of this motion), New York’s restriction is unconstitutional. Regulation in this area is permissible only if the government demonstrates that the new enactment is consistent with the Nation’s historical tradition of sufficiently analogous regulations. New York fails that test here.” Sinatra reasoned that private property owners have the right to exclude firearms from their property, “But the state may not unilaterally exercise that right and, thereby, interfere with the long-established Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens who seek to carry for self-defense on private property open to the public.”

In fact, almost nobody is interested in buying them anymore. Since Hunter’s congressional contempt back in January, he’s had no sales. Interestingly, a year prior to that, just 10 people had bought his paintings, though for the ridiculous combined sum of roughly $1.5 million. So, what has changed? The fact that Joe Biden will no longer be in office seems to be the biggest and only factor, even given Hunter’s criminal convictions. As it has been with Hunter his whole professional career, it has been selling access to his father. “Martha, do you hear yourself?” asked an incredulous JD Vance after ABC News’s Martha Raddatz challenged him regarding claims about a violent illegal alien gang. Regardless of the topic, it might be the most effective question anyone could ask a leftist today.
So, let’s back up and add the context.
Vance is both a Marine Corps veteran and a Yale alum, and long before he became Donald Trump’s running mate, he showed he wasn’t afraid of the Leftmedia. There he was again on Sunday, parrying the attacks from Kamala Harris’s Praetorian Guard.
On Friday, Trump visited Aurora, Colorado, where a violent Venezuelan gang is running amok. Trump had the nerve to point it out, saying, “In Aurora, multiple apartment complexes have been taken over by the savage Venezuelan prison gang known as ‘Tren de Aragua.’” He also used his typical hyperbole to say that the gang had “invaded and conquered” Aurora, making it like a “war zone.” He also promised “Operation Aurora” to deport illegal gang members, and he called for the death penalty “for any migrant that kills an American citizen.”
On Sunday, Trump received the unanimous endorsement of the National Border Patrol Council, the official union of the Border Patrol.
Naturally, the Leftmedia lost its collective mind. The New York Times decried Trump’s “nativist attacks,” which is a lie because his complaints are based on the Rule of Law, not xenophobia. NPR blasted him for having “demonized” Aurora, which is a false partisan smear because his remarks were about criminal illegals. The Associated Press claimed he’s pushing an “anti-immigrant message,” which is disinformation because he focuses on illegals, not all immigrants.
ABC’s Raddatz came to lecture Vance about it on Sunday. Here’s the (slightly truncated) exchange:
Raddatz: The Republican mayor of the city said flatly, the city and state have not been taken over or invaded or occupied by migrant gangs. So, do you support Donald Trump making those claims that the Republican mayor says were ‘grossly exaggerated’? …
Vance: Well, Martha, you just said the mayor said they were exaggerated.
Raddatz: Grossly exaggerated.
Vance: There’s got to be some — that means there’s got to be some element of truth here, and, of course, President Trump was actually in Aurora, Colorado, talking to people on the ground. And what we’re hearing, of course, Martha, is that people are terrified by what has happened with some of these Venezuelan gangs.
Raddatz: Senator Vance, I’m going to stop you because I know exactly what happened. I’m going to stop you. The incidents were limited to a handful of apartment conflicts, uh, apartment complexes, and the mayor said, “Our dedicated police officers have acted on those concerns.” A handful of problems.
Vance: Martha, do you hear yourself? ‘Only a handful of apartment complexes in America were taken over by Venezuelan gangs, and Donald Trump is the problem, and not Kamala Harris’s open border?’ … You seem to be more focused [on] nitpicking everything that Donald Trump has said, rather than acknowledging that apartment complexes in the United States of America are being taken over by violent gangs.
He went on to say this is what happens “when you let people in by the millions, most of whom are unvetted,” and that Harris was a big part of “94 executive orders that undid Donald Trump’s successful border policies.” Indeed, but Raddatz wouldn’t let it go.
“Let’s just end that with they did not invade or take over the city, as Donald Trump said,” she huffed. Vance shot back. “Just a few apartment complexes. No big deal. A few apartment complexes.”
Raddatz and her Harris-stumping pals in the Leftmedia would rather have you focused on Trump and Vance’s mean “lies” about the situation as if that somehow disproves that more than 10 million illegals have come across in the Biden-Harris intentional invasion — 10 million that we know about.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas “fact-checked” such assertions, saying Sunday, calling the idea of an intentional border crisis a “powerful example of disinformation” that “causes people to lose confidence” in the system. No, pointing out the problem isn’t the problem. Causing the problem is the problem.
Notably, every crime committed by an illegal alien is a crime that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Spare me the deception about how immigrants commit crimes at lower levels than citizens when there is no database to track crimes based on immigration status. Spare me the notion that it’s xenophobic to not want violent criminals pouring across our border. Spare me the phony indignation about whether Trump is literally accurate to call it an “invasion.”
Vance clearly took Raddatz to the woodshed, but ABC’s headline was defiant: “Vance stands by Trump’s false claims about Venezuelan gangs in Aurora, Colorado.”
The real story is that the Leftmedia stands by the Biden-Harris open border and its manifestly bloody results.

The US vice president struggles to answer “even the easiest of questions,” her Republican rival has claimed
Former US President Donald Trump has called on Vice President Kamala Harris to take a cognitive test, calling her “slow and lethargic.” Harris urged Trump to release his medical records over the weekend, questioning “whether he is fit to be president of the United States.”
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, Trump declared that “it is very important that Kamala Harris pass a test on cognitive stamina and agility.”
“Her actions have led many to believe that there could be something very wrong with her,” he continued. “Even 60 Minutes and CBS, in order to protect Lyin’ Kamala, illegally and unscrupulously replaced an answer she had given, which was totally ‘bonkers’, with another answer that had nothing to do with the question asked.”
“Also, she is slow and lethargic in answering even the easiest of questions,” Trump continued. “We just went through almost four years of that, we shouldn’t have to do it again!”
Last week, CBS News broadcast an interview with Harris that had been heavily edited, with the vice president’s lengthy and rambling answers – seen in a preview released before the final broadcast – cut and replaced with completely different responses.
Trump initially focused his anger on CBS, declaring that the network should be shut down and sold “to the highest bidder.” However, his latest attack on Harris came after the Democratic candidate questioned his physical and mental fitness.
After releasing a statement from her doctor describing her health as “excellent,” Harris called on Trump to follow suit, claiming that his unwillingness to do so demonstrates that he does “not want the American people to see what he is doing and whether he is fit to be President of the United States.”
At 78, Trump is 19 years Harris’ senior, and is currently the oldest nominee for president by a major party in US history. Trump released a letter from his doctor last November which stated that his “overall health is excellent” and that his “cognitive exams were exceptional.”
Dr. Bruce Aronwald, Trump’s personal physician since 2021, said his cancer screening tests were all negative, cardiovascular tests were normal, and he had reduced his weight through daily physical activity and an “improved diet.”
Trump repeatedly attacked President Joe Biden over his mental and physical fortitude until July, when Biden suspended his reelection campaign after appearing confused during a debate with the former president. With Harris replacing Biden atop the Democratic ticket, Trump repurposed his repertoire of insults and jibes to fit his new opponent.
”Joe Biden became mentally impaired. Kamala was born that way,” Trump said at a campaign rally last month. “She was born that way. And if you think about it, only a mentally disabled person could have allowed this to happen to our country,” he continued, going after Harris for her lax border security performance.
Kamala Harris’s lack of original thought extends to the printed word, as she has been caught blatantly stealing others’ work to write an important book.
As TGP readers know, Harris’s campaign was already crumbling thanks to several embarrassing interviews, awful campaign appearances, and Americans finally realizing her policies were no different than Biden’s. Now, Harris is embroiled in a massive plagiarism scandal.
As reported by activist Chris Rufo, she and Joan O’C Hamilton published a book called Smart on Crime: A Career Prosecutor’s Plan to Make Us Safer during the campaign for California Attorney General back in 2010. Rufo notes the purpose of the book’s release was to establish her credibility on criminal justice matters.
And it appeared to work as she managed to squeak out a one-point win over Republican candidate Steve Cooley in 2010.
But famed Austrian “plagiarism hunter” Stefan Weber has discovered Harris’s book contains over a dozen “vicious plagiarism fragments.” As Rufo notes, Weber is a highly credible figure who has destroyed the careers of several German-speaking politicians.
Rufo shared several examples of Weber’s explosive expose on Monday and personally confirmed them. They were published on both his blog and his X account.
The first instance of Harris’s damning plagiarism comes from a passage in her book where she writes about how school graduation rates. As one can see, she steals directly from an AP/NBC News report.

The second example of Harris’s outright theft comes from a John Jay College of Criminal Justice press release. Here, Harris copies several paragraphs and passes them off as her own.

Harris’s plagiarism was so blatant and lazy that she even copied directly from Wikipedia, an online ‘dictionary’ infamous for questionable sourcing and left-wing bias.

The final plagiarism example provided by Rufo is from Harris lifting language from an Urban Institute report. While doing so, she was supposedly ‘trying’ to describe a nonprofit group.

Biden’s first presidential campaign was derailed when he stole from the speeches of famous British politician Neil Kinnock in an effort to portray himself as a sophisticated leader. Harris’s own plagiarism scandal would sink her for good in a just country and world.
But the media remains all-in on propping up the arguably most dangerous and unprepared presidential candidate in American history due to their fear of her opponent, President Trump.
As previously reported, fake news ’60 Minutes’ was caught editing Kamala’s answers to make her sound coherent and normal.
Harris’s interview was so bad that ’60 Minutes’ spliced her nonsensical answer and replaced it with a completely separate sentence she said earlier in the interview.

This week, Elton John publicly renounced the Rocket Man – no, not the 1972 song, but Elon Musk, whom he called an “a**hole” in an awards ceremony.
Sir Elton, 77, is only the latest among celebrities and pundits to denounce Musk for his support of former president Donald Trump and his opposition to censorship. Musk-mania is so overwhelming that some are calling for his arrest, deportation and debarment from federal contracts.
This week, the California Coastal Commission rejected a request from the Air Force for additional launches from Vandenberg Air Force Base. It is not because the military agency did not need the launches. It was not because the nation and the community would not benefit from them. Rather, it was reportedly because, according to one commissioner, Musk has “aggressively injected himself into the presidential race.”
By a 6-4 vote, the California Coastal Commission rejected the military’s plan to let SpaceX launch up to 50 rockets per year from the base in Santa Barbara County.
Musk’s SpaceX is becoming a critical part of national security programs. It will even be launching a rescue mission for two astronauts stranded in space. The advances of SpaceX under Musk are legendary. The Air Force wanted to waive the requirement for separate permits for SpaceX in carrying out these critical missions.
To the disappointment of many, SpaceX is now valued at over $200 billion and just signed a new $1 billion contract with NASA. Yet neither the national security value nor the demands for SpaceX services appear to hold much interest for officials like Commissioner Gretchen Newsom (no relation to California’s governor, Gavin Newsom): “Elon Musk is hopping about the country, spewing and tweeting political falsehoods and attacking FEMA while claiming his desire to help the hurricane victims with free Starlink access to the internet.”
Newsom is the former political director for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 569. It did not seem to matter to her that increased launches meant more work for electrical workers and others. Rather, it’s all about politics.
Commission Chair Caryl Hart added “here we’re dealing with a company, the head of which has aggressively injected himself into the presidential race and he’s managed a company in a way that was just described by Commissioner Newsom that I find to be very disturbing.”
In my book “The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage,” I discuss how Musk became persona non grata when he bought Twitter and announced that he was dismantling the company’s massive censorship apparatus.
He then outraged many on the left by releasing the Twitter Files, showing the extensive coordination of the company with the government in a censorship system described by a federal court as “Orwellian.”
After the purchase, former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton called upon Europeans to force Musk to censor her fellow Americans under the notorious Digital Services Act. Clinton has even suggested the arrest of those responsible for views that she considers disinformation.
Silicon Valley investor Roger McNamee called for Musk’s arrest and said that, as a condition of getting government contracts, officials should “require him to moderate his speech in the interest of national security.”
Former Clinton Secretary of Labor Robert Reich wants Musk arrested for simply refusing to censor other people.
Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann called for Musk to be deported and all federal contracts cancelled with this company. As with many in the “Save Democracy” movement, Olbermann was unconcerned with the denial of free speech or constitutional protections. “If we can’t do that by conventional means, President Biden, you have presidential immunity. Get Elon Musk the F out of our country and do it now.”
Of course, none of these figures are even slightly bothered about other business leaders with political opinions, so long as, like McNamee, they are supporting Harris or at least denouncing Trump. Musk has failed to yield to a movement infamous for cancel campaigns and coercion. The usual alliance of media, academia, government and corporate forces hit Musk, his companies and even advertisers on X.
Other corporate officials collapsed like a house of cards to demands for censorship — see, for example, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. Musk, in contrast, responded by courageously releasing the Twitter Files and exposing the largest censorship system in our history.
That is why I describe Musk as arguably the single most important figure in this generation in defense of free speech. The intense hatred for Musk is due to the fact that he was the immovable object in the path of their formerly unstoppable force.
The left will now kill jobs, cancel national security programs and gut the Constitution in its unrelenting campaign to get Musk. His very existence undermines the power of the anti-free speech movement. In a culture of groupthink, Musk is viewed as a type of free-thought contagion that must be eliminated.
Their frustration became anger, which became rage. As Elton John put it in “Rocket Man,” he was supposed to be “burning out his fuse up here alone.”
Yet, here he remains.
George Bernard Shaw once said “a reasonable man adjusts himself to the world. An unreasonable man expects the world to adjust itself to him. Therefore, all progress is made by unreasonable people.”
With all of his idiosyncrasies and eccentricities, Elon Musk just might be that brilliantly unreasonable person.
