DECEMBER 7 | HOPE: THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE ENTIRE BIBLE

Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil.

HEBREWS 6:19

In the New Testament, the word “hope” becomes one of the great words that Christ gave us. It was a word often used before but it has received new and wonderful meaning because the Saviour took it into His mouth.

Hope is the music, the drift and direction of the whole Bible. It sets the heartbeat and atmosphere of the Bible, meaning as it does desirable expectation and pleasurable anticipation!

Human hopes will fail and throw us down. But the Christian’s hope is alive. The old English word “lively” meant what the word “living” means now; the word coming from God Himself for it is the strongest word in the Bible for life. It is the word used of God Himself when it says He is the Living God. So it is that God takes a Christian’s hope and touches it with Himself and imparts His own “livingness” to the hope of the believer. The true Christian hope is a valid hope! We have been born of God. There has been a new creation. No emptiness there, no vanity, no dreams that can’t come true. We have no great place of beauty in this world—Taj Mahal, Buckingham Palace or the White House—that can compare with the glory that belongs to the true child of God who has known the major miracle, who has been changed by an inward operation of supernatural grace unto an inheritance, a living hope!

Your expectation should rise and you should challenge God, and begin to dream high dreams of faith and spiritual anticipation. Remember, you cannot out-hope the living God!1

Evening, December 7 | “I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”—1 Corinthians 9:22

Paul’s great object was not merely to instruct and to improve, but to save. Anything short of this would have disappointed him; he would have men renewed in heart, forgiven, sanctified, in fact, saved. Have our Christian labours been aimed at anything below this great point? Then let us amend our ways, for of what avail will it be at the last great day to have taught and moralized men if they appear before God unsaved? Blood-red will our skirts be if through life we have sought inferior objects, and forgotten that men needed to be saved. Paul knew the ruin of man’s natural state, and did not try to educate him, but to save him; he saw men sinking to hell, and did not talk of refining them, but of saving from the wrath to come. To compass their salvation, he gave himself up with untiring zeal to telling abroad the gospel, to warning and beseeching men to be reconciled to God. His prayers were importunate and his labours incessant. To save souls was his consuming passion, his ambition, his calling. He became a servant to all men, toiling for his race, feeling a woe within him if he preached not the gospel. He laid aside his preferences to prevent prejudice; he submitted his will in things indifferent, and if men would but receive the gospel, he raised no questions about forms or ceremonies: the gospel was the one all-important business with him. If he might save some he would be content. This was the crown for which he strove, the sole and sufficient reward of all his labours and self-denials. Dear reader, have you and I lived to win souls at this noble rate? Are we possessed with the same all-absorbing desire? If not, why not? Jesus died for sinners, cannot we live for them? Where is our tenderness? Where our love to Christ, if we seek not his honour in the salvation of men? O that the Lord would saturate us through and through with an undying zeal for the souls of men.1

1  Spurgeon, C. H. (1896). Morning and evening: Daily readings. Passmore & Alabaster.

December 7.—Evening. [Or November 12.]“Take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine.”

IN this letter to Timothy Paul denounces many of those forms of error which have been the plague of the Christian church in all ages. Those who deal with spirits, or profess to do so, those who multiply forms and ceremonies, those who make religion to lie in meats and drinks, and those who attach importance to legends and traditions, are all heavily censured, as they deserve.

1 Timothy 4

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils: (leading on to the worship of angels, fear of demons, and attempts at commerce with the dead. In every age some deceivers and deceived ones have wandered in this direction. Far from us be such darkness.)

Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron. (As a hot iron deadens the part which it burns, so is their conscience no longer sensitive, and they can utter falsehood unblushingly.)

Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (How well this describes the Church of Rome, which combines both superstitions. Other sects also have decried marriage, and issued laws as to eating and drinking, making that to be sin which is no sin.)

4, 5 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. (To hold fast the true faith is one of our first duties. To be for ever chopping and changing is a most unhappy and dangerous condition.)

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

For bodily exercise profiteth little: (or a little; it may, when rightly used, promote bodily health, but that is all): but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

9, 10 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. (All men derive some benefit from Jesus’ death. They are spared, they enjoy the common blessings of providence, and they are placed under mediatorial rule; yet redemption has its special design and effect, and these have to do only with believers. The Saviour has bought some good things for all men, and all good things for some men. Are we believers? Then, in a special sense, Jesus is our Saviour.)

11 These things command and teach.

12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. (Even when the miraculous gifts of the Spirit were in the church the most favoured ministers were to study and meditate: how much more then is it now their duty! Those who speak without thinking seldom say anything worth thinking of.)

15, 16 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; (Or “be thou wholly in them.” Be absorbed in thy work,) that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. (Care as to our doctrine will both preserve the teacher himself from serious error, and keep his hearers from the same evil. This should lead us to be very prayerful, and careful as to what we receive, and what we communicate to others. Doctrines are not to be trifled with, they are life and death matters. Lord teach us thy truth.)

Make me to understand

Thy precepts and thy will;

Thy wondrous works on every hand,

I’ll sing and talk of still.1

December 7 Evening Verse of the Day

15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord God. 16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them in justice. 1

1  The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Eze 34:15–16). (2016). Crossway Bibles.

34:15–16. God’s shepherding care is a dynamic contrast to the treatment by the false shepherds (cf. v. 10). He will lead them to rest … seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick. The false shepherds, now portrayed as the fat and the strong sheep who had abused the flock (cf. vv. 1–10, 22–20) would face judgment. This prophecy was not fulfilled with the return from Babylon because: (1) the return here is from worldwide dispersion; (2) when Israel returned after the exile they did not fully know the Lord as this passage describes; and (3) the returned exiles did not experience the peace and rest this passage describes.1

34:15 — “I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down,” says the Lord God.

The Lord does what He does with us for our benefit. He feeds us what He knows will give us health. He makes us lie down when we would rather keep moving. He is the Good and Great Shepherd (John 10:11, 14).2

34:15, 16 I will feed My flock. In contrast to self-indulgent leaders who took advantage of the sheep, God will meet the needs of His sheep (people). This is clearly reminiscent of Ps 23 and will be fulfilled by the Good Shepherd (Jn 10:1ff.), who will reign as Israel’s Shepherd.3

The Dross Purged | VCY

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried; they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.Zechariah 13:9

Grace transmutes us into precious metal, and then the fire and the furnace follows as a necessary consequence. Do we start at this? Would we sooner be accounted worthless, that we might enjoy repose, like the stones of the field! This would be to choose the viler part—like Esau, to take the pottage and give up the covenant portion. No, Lord; we will gladly be cast into the furnace rather than be cast out from Thy presence!

The fire only refines; it does not destroy. We are to be brought through the fire, not left in it. The Lord values His people as silver, and therefore He is at pains to purge away their dross. If we are wise, we shall rather welcome the refining process than decline it. Our prayer will be that our alloy may be taken from us rather than that we should be withdrawn from the crucible.

O Lord, Thou triest us indeed! We are ready to melt under the fierceness of the flame. Still, this is Thy way, and Thy way is the best. Sustain us under the trial and complete the process of our purifying, and we will be Thine forever and ever.

Advent – Thirty Days of Jesus: Day 6- The Glory of Jesus | Elizabeth Prata

By Elizabeth Prata

We’re in the section of the 30-day Advent flow of the prophecies of Jesus’ coming, his arrival, and his early life. Yesterday’s scripture picture was “The Babe has arrived” and the scripture was from Luke 2.

How can we go any further without pondering that He, the King of Glory, the Infinite, left glory in heaven to be wrapped in human flesh and dwell among sinners? To seek and save the lost, humbling himself not only as a God-Man, but departing His heavenly home of glory where He constantly received His due worship… To be rejected, despised among men, and killed. All for us, rotten sinners.

Our God is truly AMAZING!

thirty days of jesus verse 6

To Know the Love of Christ, by Arthur W. Pink (1886-1952)
Consider Jehovah’s condescending to take upon Him a nature that was inferior to the angelic, so that when the Word became flesh His divine glory was almost completely eclipsed. Contemplate the unspeakable humiliation into which the Son of God descended, a humiliation which can only be gauged as we measure the distance between the throne of heaven and the manger of Bethlehem.”

God’s Glory: Ligonier Devotional
“We turn today to the first verse of the second chapter of James, wherein the apostle refers to Jesus as “the Lord of glory.” Even though this is an acceptable translation of the original Greek text, it is not necessarily the most accurate way to render the verse in English. As the note in the Reformation Study Bible indicates, it is also possible to translate “the Lord of glory” as simply “the glory.” In reality, it does not really matter which one we choose because the two translations are synonymous. However, to say Jesus is “the glory” is a good way to encapsulate a portion of the New Testament’s description of the majesty of Christ.”

In his devotional work, The Glory of Christ, John Owen provided five useful helps to meditate on Christ as a divine/human Person. I pass these meditations along to you, hoping that they will increase your devotion to Christ (you can read the full section in Owen’s Works, 1:312-322).

Spiritual Abuse: I Know It When I Experience It But Can I Define It? | thewartburgwatch.com

This looks like the lights on a Christmas tree.:Kepler’s supernova remnant. NASA

“The way you can spot a false system is that the leaders require the place of honor. It is our belief that the less secure a leader is, the more important titles will be to him or her.”
― David R. Johnson, Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse, The: Recognizing and Escaping Spiritual Manipulation and False Spiritual Authority Within the Church

I once had a pastor tell me that he wanted to sit down and get me to define spiritual abuse. I realized that I could speak at length about “spiritual abuse I have known,” but I knew it would be hard to determine precisely what spiritual abuse looks like. Lianna Chong wrote a post at Substack: Spiritual Abuse is Hard to Prove. When I saw that title, I had to agree with her. Spiritual abuse can be hard to prove. I can give specific examples from my own life that are spiritual abuse, but the problem is in defining ahead of time so that folks looking on can say, “Yep, that was spiritual abuse.” Lianna said:

The reality in our Christian world is that most people don’t understand how spiritual abuse works. “They lied to you?” becomes “it was all a miscommunication” or “he didn’t mean it that way.” The abuser offers an explanation for his or her behavior, and we are quick to explain away their offenses. Why?

We tend to give our spiritual leaders the benefit of the doubt. That puts the people who try to speak up about being spiritually abused on trial. It becomes their job to “prove” that the leader is abusive. They must provide evidence and airtight explanations of what they’ve experienced, only for it to be analyzed and picked apart by a body of skeptics. It’s one of the most frustrating and demoralizing aspects of spiritual abuse.

I remember when folks at my former Southern Baptist church told me they couldn’t believe that pastors wouldn’t tell the truth. They couldn’t believe that an elder would lie and say, “Their marriage is in trouble” because he is such a kindly, well-regarded individual. The elder did apologize to my husband, but he didn’t apologize to all the people he told. It was said in haste because we had discovered that the church leaders may have known about some abusive behavior the year before the pedophile was caught.

Years later, one woman saw me at an event and said (With little warning or lead-in), “I’m proud of my church.” I muttered something about a bunch of molested teen boys who weren’t,” but her mind was made up. It was too much for this woman to accept that her church leaders screwed up the handling of a horrific molestation of young teen boys at the church.

Lianna speaks a mouthful in the following statement: How many times in the last 15 years have I been told this when we tell the stories of victims?

Even well-meaning people will respond, “there’s two sides to every story,” or “she didn’t mean it that way,” or “Jesus tells us to forgive.”

We need to focus on defining the behavior of leaders in the churches.

Lianna hopes to define abusive behavior in leaders. With her background in organizational psychology, she is equipped to begin to examine what this entails.

  • Behavior is separate from intentions
  • Behavior is observable
  • Behavior can change

I just finished taking a survey by Lianna on the effects of spiritual abuse on my life and suggest that the reader do the same. It caused me to realize the effects of a church dispute 16 years ago still affect me today. Please help Lianna by filling out the survey.

I also took a look at two other surveys that are geared toward defining abuse in the church setting.

The Spiritual Abuse Questionnaire by Dr. Kathryn Hope Keller:  Go to pages  188-191

Spiritual Harm & Abuse Scale (SHAS) Clinical Screener. Click on the two PDFs listed.

Please give 1-2 examples of spiritual abuse in your comments. I will be sure Lianna sees this.

Many who visit here have been through horrific experiences with various forms of abuse in the church. I want to focus on the more subtle form of abuse in this post. If you look at the surveys, you might get an idea about your situation. I think it’s time for us to be able to define what we all know exists: spiritual abuse. Your answers will also help me as others ask me to explain this.

Here is one post that might be an example. On the devastating life-long effects of Spiritual Abuse.

A secular response to the abuse I experienced (this is just a sample of some of it) would be to tell me to just leave it all alone, have nothing further to do with churches or faith groups. Yet this is something I cannot do. Spirituality is a thread running through me from earliest childhood; to cut and remove that thread is to cut the warp on which my being is strung. Just as sexuality is at the core of a person, so too is spirituality. Like other abuse spiritual abuse is about power and control, often masquerading as concern for the well-being and soul of another person. It was watching the documentary on Bishop Ball that made me realise that what had happened to me was abusive; I had internalised much of it, unconsciously seeing it as being my own fault. I spoke at length to the safeguarding officer but at this point, too much time has elapsed. Continuing further would potentially destroy my mental health, such as it is. Many of us are left in this position of knowing there can be no justice, no reparations, no changes.

The Key to Human Flourishing

Ancient Greek philosophers spoke of three ideals—truth, goodness, and beauty—that give life meaning and purpose. Later, Christian theologians dug deeper, finding a foundational reality beneath these ideals—the person of Jesus Christ. Truth, goodness, and beauty can only be fully understood and realized through Christ.

Should Israel strike Iran before Trump takes office?
A leading security expert has said that Israel should consider attacking Iran’s nuclear or oil facilities, possibly even before U.S. President Donald Trump takes office. In October, Israel retaliated against a missile attack by Iran with a series of targeted strikes that caused significant damage to Iran’s air defense systems and missile program. Experts have suggested that those strikes may have paved the way for Israel to target key areas of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure more easily.

One Thousand Days Of Wars And Rumors Of Wars
Sweden Prepares For War As we reach the 1,000th day of war in Ukraine, things are starting to get concerning for other nations. As the government of Sweden just presented its seventh military package of weapons and supplies to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on the Homefront, Sweden started to distribute copies of a 32-page booklet advising its citizens how to prepare for war. Citizens are being told, “You are part of Sweden’s overall emergency preparedness.” Sweden has not gone to war in more than two centuries, but now Swedes have to mentally prepare for war. This 32-page booklet says: “Military threat levels are increasing. We must be prepared for the worst-case scenario, which is an armed attack on Sweden.” Norway Prepares For War. It Only Took 12 Months for Roughly 1,000,000 Native-Born Jobs to Vanish Under Biden-Harris
“Biden’s economic legacy, besides 40-year-high inflation and record debt, could perhaps best be described as transforming the American labor market into a temp agency for foreign workers and government bureaucrats,” E.J. Antoni, a research fellow at the Heritage Foundation’s Grover M. Hermann Center for the Federal Budget, said regarding the increasing disparity between foreign and native-born employment. “He [Biden] has left behind blue collar America to import new blue voters.”

SICK: Taylor Lorenz and Fellow Leftists Celebrate Healthcare CEO’s Murder
Certain people in our society are members of what has been called the “culture of death.” They have outed themselves again, too, in a most shocking way: Celebrating the murder of the healthcare CEO assassinated Wednesday on a Manhattan street. What’s more, in this, they’re not just cheering the murder of a man. They’re also, usually unwittingly, enabling the murder of the United States’ first-world status as Third World behavior becomes normalized.

Biden regime has triggered another proxy war for Trump to deal with when he becomes president.

Iran Ropes Iraq into Rekindled Syrian Civil War
Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi emphasized that developments in Syria are of great interest to Iraq and could cause a spillover of militia violence in the country. An Iraqi government spokesman said Assad had not requested Iraq send military backup, and Iraq does not intend to militarily intervene. Iran has enthusiastically supported Assad, and the government of Turkish President Erdogan has done little to hide its support of the Syrian National army, which hasn’t directly attacked Assad but targeted Kurdish forces. Erdogan did appear to extend support to the rebels however. He said, “Idlib, Hama, Homs, and the target, of course, is Damascus. The opposition’s march continues. Our wish is that this march in Syria continues without accidents.”

Is Damascus going down?
It isn’t looking good for Syria’s detested dictator, Bashar al-Assad. The strongman is surrounded by multiple rebel factions, all of which have blocked his route out of the city off. As Syria’s rebels march toward Damascus, they are using heavy weapons that Assad’s army left behind in Aleppo and Hama. The Assad regime’s diminished forces seem to be preparing for an existential struggle to keep the capital.

Islamic Terror Unveiled: Imam and Three Muslims Charged in Shocking ISIS Plot to Target Jews and Synagogues in Sweden
Four Muslim men, including an “Imam” and two brothers, have been charged with preparing a terrorist attack on behalf of the Islamic State (ISIS), with Jews and synagogues as the primary targets. This is not a case of “radicalization” but a clear expression of Islamic doctrines that openly condone hostility and violence toward Jews.

QUOTES
Pardon This

“Joe Biden has always been a venal liar who utilized his political power to pursue familial gain. So of course he’s pardoning Hunter. He was always going to pardon Hunter. Hunter was the bagman.” —Ben Shapiro
“Never forget: while Hunter was selling access to ‘the big guy,’ Joe Biden’s administration sent SWAT teams to the homes of prolifers; recruited spies in Catholic parishes; treated parents as domestic terrorists; and prosecuted Trump. The most lawless administration in history.” —Senator Josh Hawley
“You have to admire the raw chutzpah of Biden lying for months about pardoning Hunter, and then concluding his statement about pardoning Hunter with the line, ‘For my entire career I have followed a simple principle: Just tell the American people the truth.'” —Charles C.W. Cooke
The BIG Lie
“For my entire career I have followed a simple principle: just tell the American people the truth.” —Joe Biden on Sunday lying about pardoning his son
“It’s still a no. It’s still a no. It will be a no. It is a no, and I don’t have anything else to add. Will he pardon his son? No.” —Karine Jean-Pierre back in July when the AP’s Zeke Miller wondered whether Joe Biden’s pledge not to pardon Hunter was “not going to change over the next six months”
For the Record
“A review of White House transcripts reveals TEN times that either President Biden or White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphatically assured the public that there was absolutely no chance that the president would use his authority to pardon his son Hunter for his various crimes — six felonies combined, six misdemeanors.” —Jim Geraghty
Demagogue
“Candidly, it’s a bit scary because there’s a very different vision that’s being put out there. … I know there’s a bit of — a feeling of loss because we saw what a real leader looks like.” —Tim Walz
Political Futures
“Months ago, Democrats treated Biden like a hero — the second coming of George Washington. He was selfless, patriotic, and the most consequential modern president, they said. Clearly, after being forced out of the 2024 presidential race by his own party, the surge in political capital he got is all but gone. They no longer have to pretend that Biden was all these great things. The Teflon is gone. It’s open season on this lame duck.” —Matt Margolis
Rebutting the Rainbow Mafia
“Biden-Harris admin going to the Supreme Court in attempt to force states to allow minors to be permanently damaged by drugs based on deranged ideas of gender that should have never made it out of the cafeteria at Oberlin College is a good example of why they lost.” —Philip Klein
“What the trans activists are actually claiming is not that kids have a right to be castrated, but that doctors have the right to castrate them. They are fighting for the right of adults to abuse, harm, mutilate, and permanently damage children.” —Matt Walsh
“‘Gender affirming care’ is a vile, evil, dangerous propaganda term. It is a euphemism to describe the genital mutilation and sterilization of children. NO ONE — NO ONE — should use it. It’s awful. Don’t use horrific euphemisms in defense of harming children. Ever.” —Mollie Hemingway

Bombshell report details exactly how banks worked with Biden officials to spy on pro-Trump Americans

Article Image
 • https://www.dailymail.co, By JON MICHAEL RAASCH

The House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government just released its damning findings, which the panel found skews heavily toward surveillance of Americans inclined to support President-elect Donald Trump.

‘The federal government is spying on your bank account,’ the Republican-led panel posted in a video on X summarizing its 47-page report.

‘The federal government has conditioned financial institutions to work for them,’ another alarming slide on the video reads.

What the video seeks to explain is the complex and convoluted process in which major financial firms, like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase and more have all handed over their customer’s data to the government for free.

‘The next time you swipe your [bank or credit] card know that someone may be watching,’ the subcommittee video eerily adds.

This data can include the location, date and description of transactions, making it easy for the government to compile an understanding of where people go, what they buy and what activities they spend their time on.

After receiving this data, the FBI created an internal portal, where employees could search these typically private transactions and profiles could then be made on individual citizens of concern, like those who have shopped at Cabela’s or purchased a Bible, the panel claims.

Over 14,000 federal employees accessed that sensitive financial data in 2023 during which the subcommittee claims 3.3 million ‘warrantless searches’ were made.

The report highlights the detailed specifics of how the committee was able to uncover such federal monitoring.

The panel’s Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, was first tipped off to this financial surveillance in 2023 when an FBI whistleblower alerted them to how the feds were using their influence to coerce banks into handing over access to the private transaction data following the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol.
