DECEMBER 8 | GOD HAS AN INTEREST IN MAKING US RIGHTEOUS

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the working of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

TITUS 3:5

A whole new generation of Christians has come up believing that it is possible to “accept” Christ without forsaking the world.

But what saith the Holy Ghost? “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” (James 4:4), and “If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15).

This requires no comment, only obedience.

It is an error to assume that we can experience justification without transformation. Justification and regeneration are not the same; they may be thought apart in theology but they can never be experienced apart in fact!

When God declares a man righteous He instantly sets about to make him righteous.

The error today is that we do not expect a converted man to be a transformed man, and as a result of this error our churches are full of substandard Christians. Many of these go on day after day assuming that salvation is possible without repentance and that they can find some value in religion without righteousness. A revival is, among other things, a return to the belief that real faith invariably produces holiness of heart and righteousness of life!1

Evening, December 8 | “Thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor.”—Psalm 68:10

All God’s gifts are prepared gifts laid up in store for wants foreseen. He anticipates our needs; and out of the fulness which he has treasured up in Christ Jesus, he provides of his goodness for the poor. You may trust him for all the necessities that can occur, for he has infallibly foreknown every one of them. He can say of us in all conditions, “I knew that thou wouldst be this and that.” A man goes a journey across the desert, and when he has made a day’s advance, and pitched his tent, he discovers that he wants many comforts and necessaries which he has not brought in his baggage. “Ah!” says he, “I did not foresee this: if I had this journey to go again, I should bring these things with me, so necessary to my comfort.” But God has marked with prescient eye all the requirements of his poor wandering children, and when those needs occur, supplies are ready. It is goodness which he has prepared for the poor in heart, goodness and goodness only. “My grace is sufficient for thee.” “As thy days, so shall thy strength be.”

Reader, is your heart heavy this evening? God knew it would be; the comfort which your heart wants is treasured in the sweet assurance of the text. You are poor and needy, but he has thought upon you, and has the exact blessing which you require in store for you. Plead the promise, believe it and obtain its fulfilment. Do you feel that you never were so consciously vile as you are now? Behold, the crimson fountain is open still, with all its former efficacy, to wash your sin away. Never shall you come into such a position that Christ cannot aid you. No pinch shall ever arrive in your spiritual affairs in which Jesus Christ shall not be equal to the emergency, for your history has all been foreknown and provided for in Jesus.1

December 8.—Evening. [Or November 14.]“Hold fast the form of sound words.”

2 Timothy 1

THE second epistle to Timothy is remarkable as being probably the last which the apostle wrote; it contains dying advice, written in the immediate prospect of martyrdom. Looking forward calmly to the grave, and with the executioner’s axe in the foreground, Paul pens this letter to his favourite disciple, and solemnly charges him to abide faithful unto death.

1, 2 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3–5 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

We see here the inmost heart of Paul. Deserted by many of his friends, and in the feebleness of old age, expecting a cruel death, he cherishes the memory of his beloved young disciple, and longs to look once more upon his face. With joy he remembers the holy mother and grandmother of his friend, and the unfeigned piety of Timothy himself. How natural and how touching!

6, 7 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

8–10 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: (Do not hesitate to come to Rome and bear with me the reproaches and dangers which belong to the ministers of Christ,) but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

“The old man eloquent” feels his soul kindling as he describes the glories of the gospel, eternal in its purpose, matchless in its achievements. He sits on the brink of the grave, and sings of one who hath abolished death. Faith in the resurrection could alone suggest such a triumphant exclamation.

11, 12 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. (This is the main burden of the apostle’s pleading with Timothy, “Hold fast.” We have equal need of the same exhortation, for this is an evil day, and thousands hold everything or nothing as the winds of opinion may change.)

14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

16–18 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

This good man is here immortalised. When he risked his life to find out and succour a poor despised prisoner, he little knew that he would live for ever on the page of the church’s history. His cup of cold water given to an apostle has received an apostle’s reward. Are there any yet alive like Paul to whom we might minister in love after the manner of Onesiphorus?

Stripp’d of my earthly friends,

I find them all in One;

And peace, and joy that never ends,

And heav’n, in Christ alone!1

December 8 Evening Verse of the Day

20 Great have been the psalmist’s troubles. The adversities are hyperbolically described as “the depths of the earth,” which contrasts with the phrase “righteousness … to the skies” (v. 19). Yahweh’s power is so great that he can extend his love into the deepest depths. He alone has the power over life and death (cf. 85:6; see Reflections, p. 663, Sheol—Grave—Death in the Psalms).1

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up (v. 20). Just as the psalmist has declared that God’s righteousness extends to the heavens, he now speaks of the experiences he and others have been through. The experiences of the individual blend into those of the nation. They have seen many distressing situations (perhaps even the exile) when they seemed as good as dead (cf. Ps. 30:3). From the grave or the depths of the earth they can appeal to God to restore them again. This is a confessional response by the believing community, which, having been afflicted, can cry for restoration. The psalmist is sure that God will not forsake them, and this must always remain the confidence of believers.

Though troubles assail and danger affright,

Though friends should all fail and foes unite,

Yet one thing secures us, whatever betide,

The Scripture assures us the Lord will provide.

No strength of our own or goodness we claim;

Yet, since we have known the Saviour’s great Name,

In this our strong tower for safety we hide,

The Lord is our power, the Lord will provide.

(John Newton, 1725–1807)2

Ver. 20. Thou who hast showed me great and sore troubles shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.Divine help in times of trouble:

This is a psalm of experience: it begins with trusting and ends with praise, which is the usual ending for such beginning.

I. The fact recognized, that troubles are often sent by God. If David were the author, then he might have remembered the troubles which arose—

1. From Saul’s jealousy. See the history, and learn, that advancement in social life is no security against trouble; and that the more we may do for another’s good, the greater, oftentimes, shall be the ingratitude we shall receive.

2. From the accusings of conscience. The conscience of a man who is not an habitual sinner is a great source of trouble.

3. From the rebellion of his son.

4. The being forsaken by his friend.

5. The jeers of the ungodly (vers. 10, 11).

6. But the greatest trouble of all was when he thought God had left him.

7. We, to-day, may know some of all these things.

II. These troubles are always sent for a good purpose. To admonish, to purify, etc.

III. Rightly received they shall issue in joy. (A. F. Barfield.)

From winter to spring:

“What a lamentable change has taken place in my condition,” said the frozen brook. “Only a short time ago I ran along, a lively stream, glistening in the sunshine, dancing in the shade, and doing my work with joyous pleasure; but now, alas! I am cold and motionless—what a melancholy change has come over me, and oh, what if I should never recover from this torpor—never flow again.” A sturdy oak that had outlived a hundred winters, and now also stood bare and comparatively leafless, overhearing, tried to comfort it. “Don’t despair,” said the oak; “these changes are common, and affect you now so powerfully because you are so shallow. As long as streams have been exposed to climates of this nature, they have endured what you now suffer. But the glorious sun retains his power in the heavens; and depend upon it that by and by we shall both again feel his quickening influence—myself to put on a new dress of foliage, and you to flow with freedom and freshness.” The old oak was not mistaken. In due time the sun poured forth bright beams from the sky, the air became soft and balmy, and the little rivulet burst its icy bonds and coursed again through the meadows. The Christian has his wintry season, when cold and lifeless, as it were, and lamenting the absence of former spiritual enjoyments, he cries, “Quicken me in Thy way. Thou who hast showed me great and sore troubles shalt quicken me again.” (W. Bowden.)3

20. “Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shall quicken me again.” Here is faith’s inference from the infinite greatness of the Lord. He has been strong to smite; he will be also strong to save. He has shown me many heavy and severe trials, and he will also show me many and precious mercies. He has almost killed me, he will speedily revive me; and though I have been almost dead and buried, he will give me a resurrection, and “bring me up again from the depths of the earth.” However low the Lord may permit us to sink, he will fix a limit to the descent, and in due time will bring us up again. Even when we are laid low in the tomb, the mercy is that we can go no lower, but shall retrace our steps and mount to better lands; and all this, because the Lord is ever mighty to save. A little God would fail us, but not Jehovah the Omnipotent. It is safe to lean on him, since he bears up the pillars both of heaven and earth.4

December 9 – The Only Book with a Blessing for Hearers | VCY

TODAY’S BIBLE READING CHALLENGE:
  Joel 1:1-3:21
  Revelation 1:1-20
  Psalm 128:1-6
  Proverbs 29:18

Joel 1:4 — This event is the biggest event in five generations (Joel 1:2-3) and has four layers of destruction (Joel 1:4)!

Joel 1:14 — Several groups have put out guidelines for calling a “solemn assembly” including the Southern Baptist ConventionFamily Research Council, and the Presbyterian Mission.

Joel 2:10 — These events look like the events of the fifth seal (Revelation 6:12-13) and are reiterated in Joel 2:31.

Joel 2:13 — ”Rend your heart, and not your garments.” God wants internal, actual change, not just external conformity.

Notice who God is: “… gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth Him of the evil.” That’s almost word for word from Jonah 4:2, which showed that Joel was familiar with these writings.

Joel 2:25 – How’s this for a promise! In spite of four layers of destruction (Joel 1:4), God is promising to restore the lost years!

Joel 2:28 — This was quoted in Acts 2:17 as part of Peter’s Pentecost message. The giving of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was a fulfillment of this passage.

Joel 2:32 — This verse is quoted almost exactly in Romans 10:13! Those days are now here; the message of salvation is offered universally!

Revelation 1:3 — Revelation can be hard to follow, but it comes with a blessing for those who read and hear this book!

Revelation 1:5 — Yes, Jesus washed us in His blood!

Revelation 1:11 — Jimmy DeYoung produced a documentary “Let them Hear.” You can watch it online at VCY.tv.

Psalm 128:1 — Speaking of blessings, let’s be sure to fear the LORD!

Proverbs 29:18 — More blessings for those who keep the law!

A Constant Witness | VCY

For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.Acts 22:15

Paul was chosen to see and hear the Lord speaking to him out of heaven. This divine election was a high privilege for himself; but it was not intended to end with him; it was meant to have an influence upon others, yea, upon all men. It is to Paul that Europe owes the gospel at this hour.

It is ours in our measure to be witnesses of that which the Lord has revealed to us, and it is at our peril that we hide the precious revelation. First, we must see and hear, or we shall have nothing to tell; but when we have done so, we must be eager to bear our testimony. It must be personal: “Thou shalt be.” It must be for Christ: “Thou shalt be his witness.” It must be constant and all absorbing; we are to be this above all other things and to the exclusion of many other matters. Our witness must not be to a select few who will cheerfully receive us but to “all men”—to all whom we can reach, young or old, rich or poor, good or bad. We must never be silent like those who are possessed by a dumb spirit; for the text before us is a command, and a promise, and we must not miss it—”Thou shalt be his witness.” “Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord.”

Sunday’s Hymn: O Come, O Come Emmanuel | Rebecca Writes

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.

Refrain

Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee
, O Israel.

O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
Who orderest all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory over the grave.

O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.

O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.

O come, O come, great Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times once gave the law
In cloud and majesty and awe.

O come, Thou Root of Jesse’s tree,
An ensign of Thy people be;
Before Thee rulers silent fall;
All peoples on Thy mercy call.

O come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease,
And be Thyself our king of Peace.

Old Testament

Malachi 3:1–7b

“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the Lord. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years.

“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.

“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return?’

Psalm

Psalm 66:1–12

Shout for joy to God, all the earth;

sing the glory of his name;

give to him glorious praise!

Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!

So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.

All the earth worships you

and sings praises to you;

they sing praises to your name.” Selah

Come and see what God has done:

he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.

He turned the sea into dry land;

they passed through the river on foot.

There did we rejoice in him,

who rules by his might forever,

whose eyes keep watch on the nations—

let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah

Bless our God, O peoples;

let the sound of his praise be heard,

who has kept our soul among the living

and has not let our feet slip.

10 For you, O God, have tested us;

you have tried us as silver is tried.

11 You brought us into the net;

you laid a crushing burden on our backs;

12 you let men ride over our heads;

we went through fire and through water;

yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.

Epistle

Philippians 1:2–11

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Gospel

Luke 3:1–14 (15–20)

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:

‘Prepare the way of the Lord,

make his paths straight.

Every valley shall be filled,

and every mountain and hill shall be made low,

and the crooked shall become straight,

and the rough places shall become level ways,

and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’ ”

He said therefore to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

10 And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?” 11 And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” 12 Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than you are authorized to do.” 14 Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”

[

15 As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, 16 John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

18 So with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people. 19 But Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by him for Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done, 20 added this to them all, that he locked up John in prison. 1

WEEK 49 | PRESENTING OURSELVES AS A LIVING SACRIFICE

ROMANS 16:1-16

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea; that you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and that you help her in whatever matter she may have need of you; for she herself has also been a helper of many, and of myself as well.

Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who for my life risked their own necks, to whom not only do I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles; also greet the church that is in their house. Greet Epaenetus, my beloved, who is the first convert to Christ from Asia. Greet Mary, who has worked hard for you. Greet Andronicus and Junias, my kinsmen and my fellow prisoners, who are outstanding among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me. Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord. Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and Stachys my beloved. Greet Apelles, the approved in Christ. Greet those who are of the household of Aristobulus. Greet Herodion, my kinsman.

Greet those of the household of Narcissus, who are in the Lord. Greet Tryphaena and Tryphosa, workers in the Lord. Greet Persis the beloved, who has worked hard in the Lord. Greet Rufus, a choice man in the Lord, also his mother and mine. Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas and the brethren with them. Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

OUR FATHER, thank You that You have

designed a plan of redemption

that rescues the unworthy and the guilty from their plight

and places them into Your kingdom.

That kingdom exists not only as a heavenly, eternal realm;

it also has a vital presence now on this earth.

We rejoice that You design to build Your kingdom

through Your Body, the church,

every member having an important part to play.

Thinking of the apostle Paul, we recognize the unique gifts and abilities

he was given to advance Your kingdom,

yet we are greatly encouraged to realize

that the Holy Scriptures honor by name

those who helped him.

You surrounded Paul with people we would not know

had he not named those who prayed for him,

encouraged him, and assisted him in Your great work.

Thank You, Lord, for such an example

of the Body of Christ working together.

We are reminded that You not only save sinners;

You also bring them together in one Body

under the power of Your Spirit

to accomplish Your glorious purposes.

Your grace is abundant in every way.

We bless You for the gospel and all that it brings:

salvation,

liberation,

healing,

wholeness,

and hope.

Thank You that You equip us and blend us together

in this wonderful entity called the Body of Christ.

We confess there are times

when we are not useful as we should be—

and sometimes we are even a hindrance to Your work.

We grieve the Holy Spirit. We seek the pleasures of the world.

We live without heed to our duties. We trifle with things that are evil.

We confess, moreover, that we are at times

unloving, uncaring, proud, selfish, impatient, too earthly minded,

and too apathetic about the things that really matter.

How desperately we need to come before You

to be washed and forgiven of all such things.

May we mortify our sins at their first appearance

and never let them linger!

Our heartfelt desire is to manifest Christ in His great glory.

We are the Body of which He is Head.

May we honor Him accordingly in everything we do and teach.

In all the ways we have offended You, Lord,

we humbly ask for Your pardon.

How grateful we are that You are willing to forgive repentant sinners

and restore us for useful service!

Our earnest desire is to be suitable instruments in Your hands.

May we be faithful in Your service.

Enlarge our capacity for gospel work,

and intensify the reflection of Your glory on our faces.

You, Lord, are everything we need;

may we desire nothing more.

You are our stronghold and our Deliverer.

You are our strength and our hope.

You are our Guide and our Keeper.

You are the one true God, and the Rock of our salvation.

All Your grace abounds to us;

we always have full sufficiency in everything.

Indeed, we have an abundance for every good deed.

May we not squander such exquisite blessings.

Cleanse us, so that we might more clearly reflect

the glory of Christ.

Help us, even now, to give more perfect expression

to the praise that will occupy our hearts throughout all eternity.

As always, we bring all these petitions in His blessed name.

May they be heard and answered

as they are consistent with Your will. Amen.1

Keep Christ In The Celebration :: By Nathele Graham

America just celebrated Thanksgiving, a day which is set aside to be thankful for God’s blessings. I often wonder who or what atheists thank. Maybe they are thankful to the football teams for taking over the television with football. For my part, I’m thankful for all that God provides. When I think about it, He provides everything.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

What if He hadn’t created the heaven and earth? No further creation could happen. If there was no place upon which creation could sit, we’d all be floating around in space, seldom coming in contact with anybody or anything. I’m thankful to God for creating this earth and placing it exactly where it needs to be in order for the sun to warm it but not make it too hot for life to thrive. Scientists call this the anthropic principle, which means that all things are very precise and fine-tuned to make human habitation possible. My reaction to that is, “Duh, that’s because God made it for us.” Bible-believing Christians know that this wasn’t an accident.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:1-3).

Who was the “Word”? The answer is simple. The Word was Jesus Christ. He spoke all things into existence, and He made all things.

The Apostle Paul wasn’t confused by myths. He knew that the world wasn’t supported on the shoulders of Atlas, or any other myth. He wrote in a letter to the Colossian believers about God, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist” (Colossians 1:13-17).

That word “consist” is translated from the Greek word “synistemi” and simply means Jesus holds all things together. One day, He will let go, and what a disaster that will be. Christians will be Raptured before that happens, but we can be thankful that Jesus is holding all things together. Jesus created all things, including angels. If anybody tries to convince you that Jesus and Lucifer are brothers, pray for them. They are not brothers; in fact, Lucifer is a created being, whereas Christ has always been and is the Creator. Why aren’t we more thankful for what God has done and is doing for us? Celebrate Christ every day.

People like to complicate things, and many also try to take the glory away from God. Some would have us believe, as Chuck Missler liked to say, first there was nothing, then it exploded. From this big bang came all of the plants, animals, water, people, the air we breathe, etc. They would have us believe that soil that is able to grow plants just happened by chance, as did the plants themselves. Somehow, it all “evolved” just right so life could also “evolve.” By chance, rain happened to water the soil so plants can grow. I wonder what happened between soil coming together and a seed evolving and rain watering everything, or did rain come first? Why didn’t it wash away the soil? There were no plant roots to hold it together.

Plants, by chance, provide food for people and animals in just the right balance of nutrition to sustain life. The “by chance” happenings just go on and on in the fantasy world of evolution in more and more unbelievable ways. Study Genesis to take the confusion away.

God did it all with a plan; it didn’t evolve by happenstance. Bible teachers have dropped the ball by not teaching the truth of God’s word. When the Apostle Paul was mentoring a young pastor named Timothy, he encouraged him to stay true to Scripture instead of teaching false knowledge as if it were true knowledge.

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen” (1 Timothy 6:20-21).

Science has been twisted to eliminate truth. We learn in Genesis that it was Satan who first twisted God’s truth so that he confused Eve, who ate the forbidden fruit that God clearly told Adam not to eat. When God’s truth is twisted to fit an agenda, there is always trouble.

When we understand that God has created everything, we should be grateful. That gratitude should lead us to obey Him. We should never twist His truth to make our sin seem acceptable. There is much evil in this world and it’s glorified and made to look as if it’s fun and not hurting anybody. There has been a shift in “normal” to claim that those who honor the Lord are the abnormal ones. God hasn’t changed, so Christians must be true to His word.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20).

All it takes is for a Christian to study Scripture and believe it to see that wickedness has no place in the life of someone who loves the Lord. It’s God who defines right and wrong, not the liberal thinkers who are powered by Satan and accept everything except God’s truth. When God is rejected as creator, what happens? Study Romans chapter 1 and find out. Then, look at news headlines and hear about “pride parades” and transgender thinking, and you’ll see that the Bible is true. Prophecy is probably the best proof of God’s word being truth. Prophecy is being fulfilled quickly. Again, watch the news and keep your eyes on Israel. Christians need to take Scripture seriously and not waiver. Remember, God is correct in all matters.

Therefore, my beloved brethren be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Many Christians today have let go of God’s truth. People claim to be Christians but can’t quote even one verse. Many don’t know why they think they are Christians and don’t believe much of Scripture. My husband thought he was a Christian because he lived in the United States. When he finally came to understand what Christianity is, he was amazed and fell in love with Jesus and Scripture. It changed his life. Most people like the parts about grace and mercy but don’t like to follow the rules God has laid down. What stops us from having unmovable faith? Is it fear? We would do better to fear God rather than fear the opinions of fellow humans. People will always fail, but God is eternal and will never fail.

The next big holiday to be celebrated is Christmas. It’s supposed to celebrate the Creator of the universe stepping into His creation as a human – Immanuel, God with us. That name, or should I say description, was a prophecy found in Isaiah.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sin; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14).

We can always count on the fact that Biblical prophecy will always be fulfilled. This prophecy was fulfilled when a young virgin named Mary submitted herself to God and became pregnant. She was engaged to Joseph, a carpenter, and he was also obedient to God and took his place as the stepfather of Jesus. Joseph and Mary had other children together after Jesus was born, but Jesus was the only begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit. In that way, His blood was not tainted by Adam’s sin and qualified Him to be our Redeemer.

Since Mary was human, Jesus was a kinsman to humanity. When He offered Himself for our salvation on the cross, He was fully God and fully human – our Kinsman Redeemer. His pure blood was shed to take our sin away, not just cover sin as animal sacrifices did. We learn from the Apostle John that Jesus was the Word, which was in the beginning, and the Creator. We also learn He became human.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

That’s something to be thankful for. If you haven’t put your faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, you need to do that now. Biblical prophecy will always be fulfilled, and the end times prophecies are being fulfilled quickly.

When you celebrate a holiday, whether it be the birth of Christ or His resurrection, be sure you remember what you celebrate. Keep Christ in the celebration.

God bless you all.

USDA Orders Raw Milk Testing Under Guise of Bird Flu Amid War on Small Farms
Nationwide demand for raw milk has never been higher, as out-of-control bureaucrats in their ivory towers in Washington, DC, exploit bird flu outbreaks in dairy herds to financially crush small farms while ensuring that large-scale farms owned by mega corporations, which produce questionable/unhealthy food (hence America’s obesity crisis), remain in control of the nation’s food supply chain. The latest overreach in the war on raw milk comes as the US Dept of Agriculture (USDA) ordered dairy farmers to work with the federal agency to test for bird flu (H5N1).

Death by proxy? The fall of Assad and collapse of Iran’s regional strategy | allisraelnews

How does it affect Israel?

In medicine, there’s a disturbing condition called Munchausen syndrome by proxy (now known as Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another), where a caregiver fabricates or induces illness in their dependents, often to maintain control and validate their role as ‘protector.’

As Iran’s regional strategy unravels in 2024, a striking parallel emerges: Tehran’s relationship with its proxy forces bears an uncanny resemblance to this pathological dynamic.

Like the diagnosed caregiver who creates crises to assert control, Iran has positioned itself as the indispensable protector of various regional forces – from Hezbollah in Lebanon to Assad’s regime in Syria.

The “Ring of Fire” strategy, masterfully crafted by the late Iranian General Qasem Soleimani before his elimination in a U.S. drone strike in January 2020, wasn’t just about the military encirclement of Israel. It was a complex web of manufactured dependencies, where Iran’s ‘protection’ often intensified the very conflicts its proxies faced, creating a cycle of perpetual reliance.

But just as Munchausen by proxy ultimately risks destroying both caregiver and dependent, Iran’s strategy has collapsed dramatically, taking its proxies down with it. The recent fall of the Assad regime, accompanied by the humiliating retreat of Shiite loyalists to Iraq, marks the terminal phase of this pathological relationship.

One can only wonder: Did Iran’s compulsive need to be the region’s ‘protector’ ultimately prove self-destructive?

Iran’s military assets and alliances weaken

One significant blow came through unprecedented Israeli military action inside Iran itself. Precision airstrikes targeted missile production facilities across multiple provinces, severely degraded Iranian air defense capabilities, and destroyed drone manufacturing sites. These strikes demonstrated Israel’s ability to penetrate Iranian airspace at will, shattering the notion of Iran’s territorial invulnerability and emboldening Iran’s regional adversaries.

The degradation of Hezbollah’s military capabilities proved to be the crucial turning point. With its most powerful proxy force severely weakened, Iran lost its primary deterrent against both Israeli actions and regional opposition movements. This new reality encouraged Syrian rebel groups and other anti-Iranian forces to act more boldly, fundamentally altering the regional power dynamics.

The collapse of Iran’s position in Syria exposed another underlying weakness in Iran’s strategic edifice: the religious fault lines within its alliance system.

Assad’s Alawite sect, though historically aligned with Shiite Islam, occupies a complex theological position that has always created tensions with Iran’s orthodox Twelver Shiism. These religious distinctions long overlooked in times of strength, became increasingly relevant as Iran faced difficult choices about committing resources to protect its allies.

The Alawite faith, considered heterodox by many Islamic scholars, has always been a point of tension in the Iran-Syria alliance. Sunni Muslims, who form the majority in Syria, view Alawites with particular hostility, considering them even further from orthodox Islam than mainstream Shiites. Iran’s strategic calculations appear to prioritize protecting core Shiite interests over maintaining support for peripheral allies.

The scale of Assad’s fall revealed the extent of Iran’s strategic weakness. When rebel forces launched their offensive, Iran’s inability to provide meaningful support to its longtime ally became starkly apparent. Unlike in 2011-2015, when Iran mobilized significant resources to protect Assad, this time Tehran could only watch as Syria’s army collapsed.

The rapid surrender of major cities like Aleppo, Hama, and Homs – happening over just ten days – demonstrated how thoroughly Iran’s regional influence had eroded. The lack of support from both Iran and Russia, traditionally Assad’s strongest backers, proved decisive in the regime’s swift collapse.

The unraveling continues

The degradation of Hezbollah’s military capabilities following its confrontation with Israel marked a decisive turning point. Eliminating key leadership figures, including several top commanders and operational planners, has created a severe leadership vacuum. The destruction of significant military infrastructure, including command centers, weapons storage facilities, and tunnel networks, has crippled what was once considered Iran’s most potent proxy force. Intelligence estimates suggest that Hezbollah has lost nearly 40% of its elite fighting force and most of its precision missile capabilities.

This unprecedented weakening of Hezbollah has fundamentally altered its relationship with Iran. The traditional coordination mechanisms between Tehran and its Lebanese proxy have been severely disrupted. With Syrian territory no longer secure, Iran has lost its primary route for supplying weapons and military advisers to Hezbollah. The sophisticated command and control systems that once allowed seamless cooperation between Iranian officers and Hezbollah units have been largely dismantled.

Hezbollah’s position within Lebanon itself has also been dramatically altered. The organization faces growing domestic criticism for drawing Israeli retaliation against Lebanon, while its ability to maintain its traditional “state within a state” status has been compromised by military and financial losses. The Lebanese Armed Forces’ deployment to the south, coupled with international peacekeeping presence, has further eroded Hezbollah’s exclusive control over its traditional strongholds.

This stands in stark contrast to earlier phases of the Syrian conflict (2011-2015), when Iran orchestrated a massive mobilization of Shiite forces to prevent Assad’s fall. During that period, Hezbollah committed thousands of fighters to critical battles, Iraqi Shiite militias were redirected from their home territory to fight in Syria, and Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers provided strategic guidance and coordination in a demonstration of the axis’s former strength.

Assad’s final collapse – What it means for Iran

The collapse of Assad’s regime was remarkably swift. Beginning on November 27, 2024, a coalition of opposition forces launched a surprise offensive that captured around 250 cities, towns, and villages within days. Major cities fell in rapid succession – Aleppo within 24 hours, followed by Hama and Homs, effectively isolating Damascus. The Syrian army’s front lines disintegrated, with troops either surrendering or abandoning their posts. By December 8, rebels had entered Damascus, facing minimal resistance, while Assad reportedly fled to an undisclosed location. The Syrian Prime Minister, Mohammed Ghazi Jalali, announced the government’s readiness to transfer power to a transitional authority, marking the end of the Assad family’s 50-year rule.

The recent fall of the Assad regime represents the culmination of Iran’s strategic setbacks. Unlike previous interventions, this time Tehran appears to have calculated that the cost of intervention would be too high. The situation has deteriorated to the point where Iran now faces the humiliation of having to negotiate with Syrian rebel groups – forces it once dismissed as terrorists – to secure safe passage for its diplomatic personnel from Damascus.

The rebels’ capture of significant military assets from Assad’s forces has further shifted the balance of power. These include advanced air defense systems like the Pantsir S-1 and S-200, chemical weapons stockpiles, and substantial conventional military hardware. This massive transfer of military capabilities represents not just a loss for Assad’s forces but a strategic catastrophe for Iran’s regional posture.

What about Israel?

Israel views these developments with measured optimism while maintaining strategic vigilance. The weakening of Iran’s position represents a clear victory, though the emergence of radical Sunni groups in Syria presents new challenges. The rebel groups’ moderate messaging toward the West provides temporary reassurance, but uncertainty remains about long-term stability along Israel’s northern border.

The nuclear dimension adds another layer of complexity to Israel’s strategic calculations. Iran’s vulnerability might lead it to accelerate its nuclear program as a defensive measure. Conversely, Tehran might calculate that pursuing nuclear capabilities while exposed to both Israeli strikes and Sunni opposition would be too risky, potentially leading to temporary restraint in its nuclear ambitions. This creates a delicate window of opportunity – and risk – for Israel’s strategic planners.

The rebel groups’ control of advanced military capabilities, including air defense systems and chemical weapons stockpiles, presents both opportunities and challenges for Israeli strategic planning. While the degradation of Iran’s proxy network reduces immediate threats, the potential for these weapons to fall into extremist hands requires careful monitoring.

Israel’s strategists must also consider whether the current weakening of Iranian power serves long-term Israeli interests. For years, the Sunni-Shiite conflict has effectively divided Israel’s adversaries, with each Islamic sect focusing more on their sectarian rivalry than on confrontation with Israel. The potential elimination of Iran as a regional power could paradoxically increase Israel’s challenges by allowing Sunni jihadist groups to redirect their focus entirely toward the Jewish state.

This scenario becomes particularly concerning given the vast territories potentially falling under the control of Sunni extremist groups. Without the counterbalance of Iranian-backed forces, these groups might establish new bases of operation closer to Israel’s borders. The historical pattern suggests that while Shiite forces operated under Iran’s strategic restraint, Sunni jihadist groups often demonstrate less predictable and more aggressive behavior patterns.

Theological crisis and future implications

Perhaps most profoundly, these developments have triggered an unprecedented theological crisis within Iran’s clerical establishment. The Ayatollah regime has long positioned itself as the vanguard of Islamic opposition to Israel and the West, viewing this stance as a catalyst for the arrival of the Mahdi, the Shiite redeemer figure. The regime’s expectation of Israel’s imminent defeat, which seemed plausible during the early stages of the October conflict, has been shattered by subsequent events.

This crisis of faith extends beyond military and political setbacks to challenge the very foundation of the regime’s legitimacy. The failure of Iran’s proxy strategy, increasing domestic dissent against the regime’s anti-Israel policies, and growing international isolation have created a profound ideological challenge. The unfulfilled prophecies regarding Israel’s defeat have led to questioning of the regime’s religious narrative among its core supporters.

Then there’s the rest of the Iranian public – some of which are not Shiite at all. The Iranian public’s increasing rejection of the regime’s anti-Israel stance challenges its legitimacy at home. This ideological dissonance between apocalyptic rhetoric and geopolitical realities forces a fundamental reassessment of Iran’s revolutionary identity and its role in the Islamic world.

The transformation of Soleimani’s “Ring of Fire” into a circle of vulnerability represents more than a strategic defeat – it signals a potential unraveling of the theological foundations upon which Iran’s revolutionary regime has built its legitimacy. Much like patients who eventually break free from the destructive cycle of Munchausen by proxy, Iran’s proxies and the public are beginning to recognize the pathological nature of the regime’s ‘protective’ relationship. The collapse of this strategy reveals a profound truth: a protector who requires a perpetual crisis to maintain its role ultimately destroys not only its dependents but also itself.

Israeli Air Force Launches Widespread Strikes Across Syria, Targeting Weaponry at Key Military Sites | The Gateway Pundit

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) conducted widespread airstrikes across Syria on Sunday, targeting critical military sites and weaponry deemed a direct threat to Israel’s security.

Israel claimed that these strategic strikes aimed to neutralize the potential transfer of advanced weaponry into the hands of terrorist factions and hostile entities.

According to reports from The Times of Israel, the Israeli strikes hit ammunition and weapons depots at the Khalkhalah airbase in Suwayda, military positions in the Daraa Governorate, and the Mezzeh airbase in Damascus.

Later in the day, additional strikes targeted the Mezzeh airbase—a hub of Syria’s security infrastructure located in the Kafr Sousa suburb of Damascus—along with the Scientific Studies and Research Center, suspected of facilitating weapons development, and a central square in Damascus housing intelligence and customs offices.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly have been tracking advanced weapon transfers in Syria, working to prevent these arms from reaching Hezbollah or other hostile entities that could pose a direct danger to Israel.

The strikes come in the wake of the collapse of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Rebel forces, led by Abu Mohammed al-Jolani—formerly a commander of Al-Qaeda and now the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)—have reportedly entered Damascus with minimal resistance.

The IDF has also reinforced its presence in the buffer zone between Israel and Syria, deploying troops to key strategic positions to prevent the infiltration of hostile forces.

The IDF clarified that its deployment to the buffer zone is defensive and temporary, aimed solely at protecting Israel from potential attacks amid Syria’s instability. With vast stockpiles of weapons now unsecured in the region, Israel’s proactive measures are designed to ensure its borders remain safe while avoiding unnecessary entanglement in Syria’s internal chaos.

“We send a hand of peace to all those beyond our border in Syria: to the Druze, to the Kurds, to the Christians, and to the Muslims who want to live in peace with Israel,” Netanyahu said in a video statement at the Syrian border:

Damascus Now Ruled By ‘Al Qaeda In Suits’ As Assad’s Whereabouts Unknown, Curfew Imposed | ZeroHedge

Since the overnight hours Damascus has been under the control of the Islamist militants led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and backed by Turkey. The country’s President Bashar al-Assad has been overthrown, and his whereabouts are unknown, after the extremely rapid insurgent advance out of Idlib, where city after city fell starting with Aleppo in a matter of about a mere week. And just like that 50 years of Assad family rule has ended, and a new extremely unpredictable era of Syria begins.

Will the country hopelessly fracture as did Iraq and Libya for years after their strongman leaders were overthrown? Will there be mass reprisal killings? Will Christians, Alawites, and Shia be subject to mass persecution and extermination? Will the country, which has already been through over 13 years of horrific proxy war, descend into sectarian and factional chaos and hell? Will Sharia law be enforced by gunpoint? Or will some semblance of a stable transitional government emerge?

One thing is for sure, a US-designated terrorist has emerged as the current de facto ruler of Damascus and of Syria. At this very moment Washington has a $10 million bounty on his head, given his career as a jihadist began with al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) which was killing American troops in Iraq.

The jihadist factions entered Damascus overnight without a fight from the Syrian Army, and videos quickly emerged of armed fighters entering both the presidential palace (or office) as well as Assad’s private residence in Malki neighborhood.

State television stations broadcast a message from HTS leaders urging calm and a stable transition of power. New rules for Damascus include a curfew imposed from 4pm to 5am local time, according to the local Al Watan newspaper.

Rule by ‘Al Qaeda in suits’… technocratic jihad:

While the mood on the streets has been generally jubilant, gunfire has been heard – but more likely this is from anti-Assad fighters firing in celebration into the air. Western mainstream media has also been celebratory, generally ignoring HTS’ obvious Al Qaeda links past and present.

But for every scene the media highlights of a few hundred people celebrating in a central square, there are many more thousands of families huddled and fearful in their homes, not knowing what entity or Islamist faction controls the checkpoint around the block.

So far at least one central building has gone up in flames – the former government’s passport and immigration building. It remains unclear why or what the precise cause was.

Amid all of this Israel has continued to attack some locations in Syria, also with reports overnight that Israeli tanks pushed further into a strip of southern Syria in the Golan area. Other buildings are on fire elsewhere in the Damascus region.

Al Jazeera writes:

Images show a building on fire in Damascus after a suspected air attack. It’s believed that the Israelis may have struck what is believed to be a munitions depot close to the airport.

The Israeli media reported earlier on Sunday that the Israeli air force has bombed weapons depots in southern Syria and Damascus to prevent opposition groups from seizing them.

Syrian Prime Minister Ghazi al-Jalali might be installed to head of a transitional government amid promises of stability, based on a potential deal or ‘security guarantees’ involving Turkey, Russia, Iran, and the Gulf powers.

As for Assad’s current whereabouts, The Wall Street Journal speculates as follows:

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who was in Damascus on Saturday, fled the country early Sunday local time but his current whereabouts were still unknown, according to Syrian security officials and Arab officials. Russia’s foreign ministry said later in the day that he had stepped down and left the country.

Assad had announced he would address the nation at 8 p.m. local time on Saturday, but the speech never occurred. The president’s wife and children left for Russia in late November, while his brothers-in-law left for the United Arab Emirates, Syrian security officials and Arab officials said.

Below: the breaching of the presidential palace, where Assad had conducted daily work in his office…

Will the transition from Assad to “al-Qaeda in suits” be stable? Will a ‘Taliban-lite’ emerge? Is Sharia law coming… implemented by a terror and Islamist iron fist?

Nothing is certain at this point, and there are likely more dark days ahead.

IRS Expands Its Armed Wing To Highest Level In Nearly A Decade | ZeroHedge

The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) division, the armed enforcement wing of the IRS tasked with combating financial crimes, has expanded its workforce by nearly 11 percent, bringing staffing levels to their highest in nearly a decade and boosting the division’s conviction rate to 90 percent, according to the IRS-CI’s latest annual report.

As Tom Ozimek reports, via The Epoch Times, the fiscal year 2024 report, released on Dec. 5, outlines a year of intensified enforcement for the IRS-CI, which serves as the tax agency’s law enforcement branch that focuses on tax violations that cross into criminal territory.

The report shows that the division achieved several firsts over the past year, including the first sentencing for syndicated conservation easement schemes, the first cryptocurrency tax fraud indictment, and a record-setting financial settlement with Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, for anti-money laundering violations.

IRS-CI special agents, who are authorized to carry guns and use lethal force, now number 2,290 after a hiring spree added 146 employees to its ranks over the fiscal year. The division’s overall workforce expansion is the largest in nearly a decade, bringing total headcount to 3,474 employees. Between 2010 and 2020, the division’s staffing numbers fell from 4,017 to 2,858.

IRS-CI Chief Guy Ficco said in the report that the demands on the division’s workforce have increased as “criminals utilize new venues, revise their techniques, and use emerging technologies to facilitate financial crimes.”

A turnaround in hiring in recent years across both the criminal investigations unit and the IRS more broadly has been fueled by the $80 billion funding boost under the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, around $20 billion of which was later clawed back. Roughly $46 billion of the funding boost was designated for enforcement, a contentious part of the package that drew opposition from some Republican lawmakers, who argued it could lead to increased tax audits on lower- and middle-income Americans.

According to the fiscal year 2024 report, the IRS-CI launched 2,667 criminal investigations, leading to 1,571 convictions. The division raised its conviction rate from 88.4 percent in the 2023 fiscal year to 90 percent in 2024, which ended Sept. 30.

The division also uncovered $9.1 billion in fraud from tax and financial crimes, obtained $1.7 billion in court-ordered restitution, and seized approximately $1.2 billion in criminal assets.

The IRS-CI also expanded its international footprint by launching a new attaché post in Nassau, Bahamas, and a cyber attaché post in Singapore.

Ficco said in the report that the division’s focus heading into 2025 is to leverage its expanded resources and expertise to pursue financial crimes and protect the integrity of the U.S. tax system.
