Pray for Grace to Make you Wiser and Better Every Day

Matthew Henry’s “Method For Prayer”

Petition 3.34 | ESV

We must pray for grace to make us wiser and better every day than another.

Lord, give me to grow with a growth that is from God; Colossians 2:19(ESV) to grow in the grace and knowledge of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; 2 Peter 3:18(ESV) to hold to my way; and, having clean hands, to grow stronger and stronger. Job 17:9(ESV)

Let my path be as the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. Proverbs 4:18(ESV)

I have not yet obtained, nor am I already perfect; Lord, grant that therefore, forgetting what lies behind, I may strain forward to what lies ahead, for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14(ESV)

Be like the dew to me, that I may blossom like the lily and take root like the trees of Lebanon; that my shoots may spread out and my beauty may be like the olive. And let the sun of righteousness rise upon me with healing in its wings, that I may go out leaping like a calf from the stall. Malachi 4:2(ESV)

C.H. Spurgeon: ‘Be of Good Cheer’ | Morning Studies

“In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”
– John 16:33

My LORD’s words are true as to the tribulation. I have my share of it beyond all doubt. The flail is not hung up out of the way, nor can I hope that it will be laid aside so long as I lie upon the threshing floor. How can I look to be at home in the enemy’s country, joyful while in exile, or comfortable in a wilderness? This is not my rest. This is the place of the furnace, and the forge, and the hammer. My experience tallies with my LORD’s words. I note how He bids me “be of good cheer.” Alas! I am far too apt to be downcast. My spirit soon sinks when I am sorely tried. But I must not give way to this feeling. When my LORD bids me cheer up I must not dare to be cast down. What is the argument which He uses to encourage me? Why, it is His own victory. He says, “I have overcome the world.” His battle was much more severe than mine. I have not yet resisted unto blood. Why do I despair of overcoming? See, my soul, the enemy has been once overcome. I fight with a beaten foe. O world, Jesus has already vanquished thee; and in me, by His grace, He will overcome thee again. Therefore am I of good cheer and sing unto my conquering LORD.

Pruning for Fruit-Bearing | VCY

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. (John 15:2)

This is a precious promise to one who lives for fruitfulness. At first it seems to wear a sharp aspect. Must the fruitful bough be pruned? Must the knife cut even the best and most useful? No doubt it is so, for very much of our Lord’s purging work is done by means of afflictions of one kind or another. It is not the evil but the good who have the promise of tribulation in this life. But, then, the end makes more than full amends for the painful nature of the means. If we may bring forth more fruit for our Lord, we will not mind the pruning and the loss of leafage.

Still, purging is sometimes wrought by the Word apart from trial, and this takes away whatever appeared rough in the flavor of the promise. We shall by the Word be made more gracious and more useful. The Lord who has made us, in a measure, fruit-bearing, will operate upon us till we reach a far higher degree of fertility. Is not this a great joy? Truly there is more comfort in a promise of fruitfulness than if we had been warranted riches, or health, or honor.

Lord Jesus, speedily fulfill Thy gracious word to me and cause me to abound in fruit to Thy praise!

May 31 Evening Verse of the Day

34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted. The “brokenhearted” are those who have suffered affliction and who humble themselves before the Lord (Ps. 51:17). The terms “heart” and “spirit” are parallel and denote the human will and mind. To such persons God is very near (Deut. 4:7).

Bullock, C. H. (2015). Psalms 1–72 (M. L. Strauss & J. H. Walton, Eds.; Vol. 1, p. 256). Baker Books.

Ver. 18. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken, heart: and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.—The broken heart and its Divine Restorer:—
The Lord is nigh. Now to be nigh to one object is to be more or less distant from others. So is it with men, and human language is employed to represent what is here told us of God. He cannot really be far from any heart. But, in a very deep sense, He is nigh the broken heart—to help, to comfort, to save.
I. LOOK AT THE BROKEN HEART AND CONTRITE SPIRIT. “A broken heart,” a “crushed spirit,” what is it? The heart before us may be considered to be like a piece of fine mechanism disordered, or some work of art fractured—some work of art made of exquisitely delicate material, and of very fine workmanship; or like flesh when worn and bruised. We selfish men like to look on things that are pleasant, and we frequently turn our faces away from that which is unpleasant. You always find God’s face turned towards objects like unto these broken hearts and crushed spirits.
II. NOW TO SUCH A HEART GOD IS NIGH, AND SUCH A SPIRIT GOD SEEKS TO SAVE.

  1. He “is nigh” in knowledge, He knows all its history.
  2. In ministration. “He saveth such,” etc. When God heals the broken heart, it is none the worse for having been broken. An angel could not do this; God can, and does.
III. LEARN THE LESSONS OF THIS TRUTH.
  3. Do not morbidly crave for creature help and fellowship. You can do without them, for God Himself is nigh.
  4. Do not think, feel, or act as if He were far off. He has all along known how you would be placed, and He is nigh.
  5. Remember that the resources of God are available in the hour of greatest need.
  6. Do not despond or despair. You may be broken in heart, or crushed in spirit, without despondency, or despair, being elements of your sorrow; you may either cherish these feelings or fight against them. Now the feeblest fighting against them is victorious, if this struggle be carried on in the name of the Redeemer of men. If you find yourself sinking into some horrible pit of despondency and despair, it is your most sacred duty to cry importunately unto Him.
  7. Look a little further by the light of this text, and observe that a broken heart and a crushed spirit are named not as uncommon things. These are not uncommon things in human life; and you who are accustomed to look beyond surface, and beyond curtains, and draperies, and shams, and masks, know this as well as I.
  8. But look once more at the text, and mark, that God being nigh is mentioned as something ordinary. A broken heart is common—God’s saving is a common thing. Some of you need this text. You need it as a word of warning. You seem to have set yourselves in a kind of morbid obstinacy to cherish a broken heart and a crushed spirit. You seem to have determined to perpetuate your misery. Now this text tells you where to turn for help. You cannot find it apart from God. No man ever yet healed his own crushed spirit, never will. “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” Your fellow-Christians, religious books, consolatory hymns—all these are good so long as they lead you to God, but if they come between you and the Great Helper, you are better without them. These books cannot do the work you require to be done for you. (Samuel Martin.)
    A broken heart:—
    I. THIS HEART FEELS THAT IT DESERVES TO BE BROKEN, DEEPLY HUMBLED, YEA, CRUSHED WITH ANGUISH. The source of its sorrow is conscious delinquency, undeniable guilt, the abuse of many a mercy, and a heedless indulgence in many an evil passion. The sorrow thus produced is oftentimes unspeakably severe. Poverty may depress, persecution may harass, disease may prostrate, and bereavement produce painful blanks in the domestic circle; but a sorrow, more intense than is felt in all these has a place in the broken heart.
II. A BROKEN HEART IS THANKFUL THAT IT HAS BEEN BROKEN. It feels that a power has been put forth upon it altogether foreign to itself, and apart from any means for this purpose that it could employ; and hence its adoring gratitude for the change effected.
III. A BROKEN HEART DESIRES TO BE MORE AND MORE BROKEN. Washington Irving is represented to have said that “sorrow for the dead is the only sorrow from which we refuse to be divorced. Every other wound we seek to heal, every other affliction to forget; but this wound we consider it a duty to keep open; this affliction we cherish, and brood over in solitude.” Such language is, no doubt, very beautiful, and touchingly expressed. But how did this amiable student of the common sympathies of humanity forget that broken heart, of deepest interest, which refuses to be divorced from its sorrow on account of sin?
IV. A BROKEN HEART SURVEYS WITH AMAZEMENT THE INNUMERABLE MERCIES WITH WHICH IT IS ENCOMPASSED. These mercies are like the stars of heaven for multitude; and there stands in the midst of them the gift of God’s Son, like the king of day amid the lesser luminaries of the sky. What a mercy is the Word of God! It testifies of Christ, and brings life and immortality to light. What a mercy is a throne of grace! I have sins, and I can go there for pardon; I have a polluted nature, and can go there for purity; I have enemies, and can go there for help; for weakness I can go there for strength; and for sickness, I can go there for health.
    V. A BROKEN HEART IS A TENDER HEART—affectionate, forgiving, forbearing.
VI. A BROKEN HEART IS AN ACQUIESCING HEART.
VII. A BROKEN HEART TRIUMPHS IN THE ASSURANCE THAT ALL ITS SORROWS SHALL ISSUE IN RIVERS OF PLEASURE AND A FULNESS OF JOY. Upon what does this assurance rest? It rests upon the fact of its own existence. Why has God broken this heart? That it may never be healed? No, no. Let us not, then, invest it with gloom, and sullenness, and sorrow. Let us invest it with joy. (Thomas Adam.)
    A broken heart:—
A gentleman, having broken his watch glass, entered a jeweller’s to have a new one fixed. When the watch was returned, he inquired how much they would allow for the broken pieces. On being told that broken things were of no value, he said, “I have a book at home that says something is no good till it is broken.” “That must be a strange kind of book,” said the jeweller. “Yes,” said the other, “ ‘A broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.’ ” “I see you are talking religion,” was the reply. (Newton Jones.)
    The obdurate heart softened:—
Go into a cast-iron foundry and witness the extraordinary process by which fire conquers the solid metal, until it consents to be cast or stamped or rolled into the form which the artificer requires. This is a type of God’s moral foundry, when an obdurate heart is first so softened as to feel the truth, then to weep over sin, then to be ductile, then so flexible as to be formed into a shape that pleases the Lord Jesus Christ.

Exell, J. S. (1909). The Biblical Illustrator: The Psalms (Vol. 2, pp. 187–188). Fleming H. Revell Company; Francis Griffiths.

  1. “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.” Near in friendship to accept and console. Broken hearts think God far away, when he is really most near to them; their eyes are holden so that they see not their best friend. Indeed, he is with them, and in them, but they know it not. They run hither and thither, seeking peace in their own works, or in experiences, or in proposals and resolutions, whereas the Lord is nigh them, and the simple act of faith will reveal him. “And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” What a blessed token for good is a repentant, mourning heart! Just when the sinner condemns himself, the Lord graciously absolves him. If we chasten our own spirits the Lord will spare us. He never breaks with the rod of judgment those who are already sore with the rod of conviction. Salvation is linked with contrition.

10 Key Bible Verses on the Heart | Crossway

This article is part of the Key Bible Verses series.

All commentary notes adapted from the ESV Study Bible.

1. Proverbs 4:23

Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life. Read More

Heart in Proverbs regularly refers to the center of one’s inner life and orientation to God, from which a person does all thinking, feeling, and choosing. Taking words of wisdom into the heart is vital (they are life, Prov. 4:22), and wisdom’s presence in the heart is worth guarding because out of the heart flow all the thoughts and words and choices of a person’s life (from it flow the springs of life, Prov. 4:23; cf. Mark 7:21–23; Luke 6:45).

2. 1 Samuel 16:7

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.” Read More

man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart. Outward appearance cannot predict whether someone will faithfully obey the Lord, for a person’s actions flow from his heart (cf. 2 Chron. 16:9; Ps. 51:10; Prov. 4:23; Mark 7:21–23; Luke 6:45; 1 Thess. 2:4). The “heart” in Scripture refers to a person’s inward moral and spiritual life, including the emotions, will, and reason.

3. Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding. Read More

Trust in the LORD is necessary for fulfilling any of the wise ways of life taught in Proverbs; trusting the Lord is closely connected to “fearing” him (cf. Prov. 1:7; Prov. 2:5; Prov. 9:10; Prov. 15:33; Prov. 19:23; etc.). With all your heart indicates that trust goes beyond intellectual assent to a deep reliance on the Lord, a settled confidence in his care and his faithfulness to his Word. Do not lean on your own understanding further explains trusting in the Lord. One’s “understanding” in Proverbs is his perception of the right course of action. The wise will govern themselves by what the Lord himself declares, and will not set their own finite and often-mistaken understanding against his.

4. Romans 10:9–10

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Read More

If you confess with your mouth does not mean that a spoken affirmation of one’s faith is a “work” that merits justification, but such confession does give outward evidence of inward faith, and often confirms that faith to the speaker himself. that God raised him from the dead. Paul does not mean that people need to believe only this individual event with no understanding of Christ’s death, but rather they need to believe in the resurrection along with the whole complex of truth connected with it, particularly Jesus’ sin-bearing death in mankind’s place, followed by his resurrection that showed God the Father’s approval of Christ’s work. with the heart one believes. Saving faith is not mere intellectual agreement but deep inward trust in Christ at the core of one’s being.

5. Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it? Read More

heart. A metaphor for the human will and emotions (cf. vv. 5–7). deceitful. Tortuous, uneven, and crooked like a bad road. desperately sick. Medically incurable (Jer. 15:18; Jer. 30:12, 15; Job 34:6; Isa. 17:11; Mic. 1:9). who can understand it? A rhetorical question expecting a negative answer. However, this strongly negative assessment of the human heart is not intended as a description of the heart of a believer under the new covenant, where God promises to write his law on people’s hearts (Jer. 31:33; 32:40; cf. Ezek. 36:26; Rom. 5:5; Rom. 6:17; Heb. 10:22; 1 John 3:21).

6. Deuteronomy 6:5–6

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. Read More

heart . . . soul . . . might. All Israelites in their total being are to love the Lord; “this is the great and first commandment” (Matt. 22:38). In Matt. 22:37, Mark 12:30, and Luke 10:27, Jesus also includes “mind.” In early Hebrew, “heart” included what we call the “mind”. “Might” indicates energy and ability.

on your heart. Cf. Deut. 4:39. The demand is for a heart that totally loves the Lord. Deuteronomy anticipates the new covenant, when God’s words will be truly and effectively written on the heart (Jer. 31:31–34; also Deut. 30:6–8).

7. Hebrews 3:12–13

Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Read More

Drawing on several key words in Psalm 95, Hebrews warns against allowing the unbelief of a hardened, sinful heart to cause one to fall away (Gk. apostēnai, “turn away from, forsake, apostatize from”; cf. Luke 8:13; 1 Tim. 4:1). His counter to this danger is both to encourage personal commitment (take care) and to call on the church to walk together in mutual encouragement (exhort one another). as long as it is called “today.” From the perspective of God’s saving plans for world history, the church lives in a special moment in which the Lord has come, spoken, and gone, and believers await his return—faith is called for in this hour, and mutual exhortation sustains and strengthens faith.

8. Psalm 51:10

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me. Read More

The proper posture of the penitent is to crave a fresh sense of God’s presence (Psa. 51:8–9, 11), a deeper purification of the moral life (Psa. 51:6, 10, 12), and a credible witness to the unfaithful (Psa. 51:13). The focus is on the inmost self, from which obedient actions flow: inward being, secret heart (Psa. 51:6); clean heart, right spirit (Psa. 51: 10). The goal of this confession is not self-abasement but a renewal of the joy and gladness (Psa. 51:8) that the faithful have in God’s presence.

9. Ezekiel 36:26

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Read More

God’s initiative moves from external to internal with the gift of a new heart and new spirit(see Ezek. 11:19; cf. Ezek. 18:31). The outer purification will be no use without the inner disposition to live rightly before God (Ezek. 36:27). The connection of “water” (Ezek. 36:25) and “Spirit” (Ezek. 36:27) lies behind John 3:5. I will put my Spirit within you predicts an effective inward work of God in the “new covenant.”

10. Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Read More

The pure in heart are those whose pursuit of purity and uprightness affects every area of life. they shall see God. Note the ultimate fulfillment in Rev. 22:4; cf. note on John 1:18. In contrast to Jewish traditions that overemphasized external ritual purity, Jesus taught that purity of heart was most important (cf. note on Matt. 5:28).

Why I Believe the Bible and That God Created the Universe | What Christians Want To Know

Christians have logical reason for believing in God as the Creator. Here are a few reasons why I believe.

Evolutionary Fakes

The “discovery” of Piltdown Man turned out to be one of the greatest hoaxes in the history of paleoanthropology (and science!). The jaw and skull fragments belonged to two different species. The jaw’s teeth revealed someone had filed them down to make them appear to be more like human teeth. And all of the bones had been stained to make them look old. It was actually called a scientific crime. Piltdown Man was found to be a modern ape that had been bleached and artificially weathered to look like a 500,000-year-old jawbone, so they in fact, built a whole model out of a jawbone!

Nebraska Man snowballed out of control after the 1920s announcement, but it turned out to be from a pig’s tooth. Here again, they are very creative as they built a model out of one tooth!

Lucy, the renowned fossil skeleton was of one of the world’s earliest known human ancestors, which was discovered in Hadar, Ethiopia, in 1974, but the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History refuses to show her. Why? Several investigators, including Richard Leakey, have now concluded that two or perhaps three species’ bones and bone fragments have been wrongly combined in Lucy so they’re not all human bones. The point is, she was not a human ancestor but belonging to an extinct ape.

The chance for finding transitional monkey-to-man fossils is exceedingly high given their time frame of hundreds of million years. Sample evidence for fossils should grow exponentially with greater periods of time, but transitional fossils are simply not there!

Charles Dawson, a staunch supporter of Charles Darwin, was responsible for at least 38 fake finds during his amateur fossil-hunting career according to the Telegraph (Great Britain).

No Fossil Footprints

If evolution is true, there should be multiple millions upon millions of transitional fossils…yet there is a roaring silence of evidence where we see one specie transitioning into another, newer or better specie. What we do see today are, for the most part, fossils of either existing specie or those that have gone extinct. Just look at the Cambrian Explosion. Why is it called an “explosion?” Because most of the present species that exist today or have ever existed are found in what is known as the Cambrian layer or explosion. This layer is consistent with creation of life as described in Genesis. You cannot find any transitional evidence in fossils of plants evolving from one plant into another in that huge layer, therefore there is no observable evidence of evolution in the fossil record.

The Unreliability of Radio Carbon Dating

Marine fossils are found in the walls of the Grand Canyon.

There is strong evidence that fossil dating is not accurate and that radio carbon dating is only accurate within a 6,000 years’ time-span, so it is not a very reliable method to date organic matter, and even more so with inorganic matter (like rocks). The reason is all living organisms—like trees, plants, people, and animals— absorb carbon-14 into their tissue. When they die, the carbon-14 starts to change into other atoms over time. Scientists can estimate how long the organism has been dead by counting the remaining carbon-14 atoms…but wait! Cataclysmic events or great heat and tremendous pressures (underground) can speed up the release of carbon-14 atoms or…extreme cold or oceanic depths can rapidly slow the carbon-14 release.

The oldest known plant is the Gingko Biloba, dated to around 270 million years ago (allegedly), yet it is exactly the same today as it was some “270 million years ago,” (????). Here again, radio carbon dating methods cannot be trusted.

To complicate matters even further, carbon-14 can be absorbed by surrounding matter as to complicate dating. That’s why carbon dating rocks does not work well. It’s better at testing former living things. Some rocks from Hawaiian eruptions were tested and found to be several thousands of years old, yet it was only within the past two decades that these rocks had formed from cooled lava.

When you’re finding sea shells at the top of the highest mountains, it is clear there must have been a worldwide flood as described in Genesis and this caused rapid fossilization, which is just what we find in the Cambrian Explosion. It was sudden and it was cataclysmic. These are perfect conditions for quick fossilization. And of course, all of this perfectly fits the creation account in the Bible and explains where the dinosaurs perished.

Missing Links

The missing links are missing because they never existed.

You cannot find any transitional evidence in fossils of plants or creatures evolving from one specie into another. Trying to find the “missing link” when the entire chain is missing! They remain exactly the same. It’s the same for so-called other dinosaurs like opossums, crocodiles, and even cockroaches which are classified as being from the dinosaur age. Comically, the Evolutionary Tree of Life has the T-Rex on the same branch as the chicken!!

So, evolution’s theory is that we it all started with tiny microorganisms, then…jumping in time, to fish, so fish to reptiles, to mammals and to birds….then monkeys…to man. And add millions of years and time and chance…but, wait! Monkeys have not evolved at all, so that’s the reason there is no fossil evidence for any of these transitions of what we see living today. Monkeys have not evolved one bit since arriving on the earth! Why are there all these missing links?  Why?  The fact is, not only are links missing…the entire chain is!  The missing links are missing because they never existed.

Evidence of Samson and the Philistines

Archaeology is a science. It is the scientific study of material remains that authenticates the remains of human activities, civilizations, and life. The mountainous collection of artifacts we have today (and more each year!) show indisputable evidence that the Bible is true and what was recorded actually happened in the places and times that the Bible states. Let’s look at one example: Judges 16:29-30 tells about Samson’s end (die with the Philistines). Could one man really pull down an entire temple (Samson?)? [Jerusalem Post] Two Philistine temples have been uncovered by archaeologists. One at Tel Qasile, in northern Tel Aviv, and one in Tel Miqne, ancient Ekron, 21 miles south of Tel Aviv. In the collapsed one, the roof had been supported by two central pillars in middle of temple. They were about 6 feet apart and if they were pushed outward, the entire roof would come crashing down [and it did].

Does Archeology Support The Bible

Archeology is demonstrating that the Bible is truly reliable and accurate as written.

Well over 50,000 digs at 30,000 different locations have been excavated. These finds continue to provide substantial support of the Bible’s written record. Some of the finds include records or names of Belshazzar, King Darius, and King Cyrus. Evidence of the Hittites, long thought to be a mythological empire, have been found to have existed after all as well as King David’s reign found recorded on ancient Egyptian inscriptions.

Biblical Artifacts

We’ve also found a stone tablet bearing Pontius Pilate’s name as well as a piece of broken pottery at Masada which had an inscription that read, “Herod the Great King of the Jews” and dated to the time that he was ruling in 19 B.C. which fit’s the time period mentioned in the Bible (Luke 1:5, Matthew 2). Plus, the bones of Caiaphas the high priest were found in Peace Forest, just south of Jerusalem in an ossuary with the name Caiaphas on it. They dated to be around 2,000 years old, just when the Jewish historian Josephus mentioned Josephus Caiaphas ruled as the high priest around A.D. 18-36.

A seal with the inscription “Belonging to Abdi servant of Hoshea” was found in Israel and dated to the 8th century B.C. Hosea was the very last King of Israel before the Assyrians invaded and conquered the nation. The inscription of the seal matches the date of Hosea’s reign from 731-722 B.C. which fits perfectly with that which is recorded in the Old Testament.

A team of archaeologists headed by Dr. Avraham Biran, working in the Upper Galilee region, found written references to “The House of David” in both the Hebrew and Aramaic languages. Dr. Biran commented that, “This is the earliest archaeological mention of King David.” ……. These inscriptions also mention part of the Royal lineage of Israel and other Jewish Kings mentioned in the Old Testament and in the exact order that they are mentioned in 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles.

An ancient column that is credited to Solomon mentions Mizoram (Hebrew name for Egypt) and the words in Hebrew of death, water, Edom, Yahweh, and Solomon, all recorded in Scripture. Interestingly, this column was found near the Red Sea where tradition has it was the very place where Israel crossed over.

Conclusion

Only the Holy Spirit can reveal Who God is and specifically, Who Jesus is and why we need Him. That’s why I pray you have put your trust in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If that has not happened yet, my friend, you are in real danger of hell fire. And I mean, in immediate danger. You’re one breath, one heartbeat…one accident away from eternity when it will be too late to repent. Today is the best day to believe (2 Cor 6:2) since tomorrow is no guarantee. If Jesus Christ came today, here is your fate (Matt 7:21-23). This is why I plead with you as you read this, repent today…and I mean right now. Put your trust in Jesus Christ. If you do not, you will face God’s judgment after death guaranteed (Heb 9:27) or at Jesus Christ’s appearance (Rev 20:12-15), which could happen at any moment.

Stuart Olyott uses vivid analogies from hospital wards and apartment elevators to show, from 1 Corinthians 15, why the gospel alone outranks every doctrine, practice, and spiritual gift. By unpacking Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection in accordance with Scripture, he urges believers to center their faith and ministry on this life-saving message.

A plume of Saharan dust stretching from the coast of Africa to the northwestern Caribbean and into the Gulf of Mexico is forecast to reach Florida by Saturday, May 31, 2025. Southern and central parts of the state are expected to experience hazy skies and reduced air quality over the weekend. A denser plume could arrive by mid-next week, with the dust reaching Texas by Tuesday, June 3.

Traffic At U.S. Ports Has Absolutely Plummeted Compared To Last Year, And A New Crisis Threatens To Turn U.S. Relations With China Into A Massive Dumpster Fire
Did you know that we just witnessed the largest decline in U.S. imports in the entire history of our nation last month?  Unfortunately, things didn’t get any better this month.  In fact, during the final week of May imports at major ports on the west coast are down by almost a third compared to last year.  This is going to have a dramatic impact on our economy in the months ahead, and meanwhile a new crisis with China has just erupted.  The Chinese have been caught violating their 90 day trade agreement with the United States, and President Trump is extremely upset about this.  Of course the Chinese are extremely upset that President Trump is planning to increase arms sales to Taiwan.  Both sides deeply distrust one another at this stage, and if things continue to deteriorate our relations with China could soon resemble a gigantic dumpster fire.

If The Gigantic Supervolcano In Italy Erupts In 2025, It Could Instantly Cause A Devastating Worldwide Famine
We are potentially just one eruption away from a horrifying global famine that could kill millions. It takes an absolutely massive amount of dust and ash to create the conditions that are necessary for a “volcanic winter”, and most volcanoes are simply not capable of releasing that much material. But when a “supervolcano” erupts, that is a completely different story. Scientists tell us that there are 20 supervolcanoes on Earth, but there hasn’t been a major eruption of any of them in any of our lifetimes. Unfortunately, seismic activity is on the rise all over the globe, and we are being warned that the Campi Flegrei supervolcano in Italy is “awakening”…

US is moving towards a form of governance where AI controls all aspects of life
The US is shifting towards an “algocracy” where artificial intelligence (“AI”) and algorithms control various aspects of life, including law enforcement, employment and healthcare, without human oversight or accountability. The Trump administration’s 10-year ban on AI regulation allows AI to operate without oversight, potentially leading to a surveillance state where citizens are sorted, scored, and monitored by machinery.

The Leaders Of Canada, France, And The UK Just Cursed Their Own Nations
…This is no joke—but it should be. Why are the leaders of these three countries condemning Israel for the suffering in Gaza? Why are they blaming Israel for the denial of humanitarian aid to the civilian population? Why on earth are they rewarding the evil Hamas by committing to push for a two-state solution? Friends, let me be very clear: The suffering in Gaza lies solely with Hamas and the majority of the Palestinians who supported them.

Congress Betrays America: CAIR and Terror-Tied Nonprofits Shielded as Lawmakers Kill Trump’s Plan to Strip Their Tax Breaks

Left-wing pundits refuse to recognize the rape gangs operating in the UK are largely Pakistani and Muslim because they fear being labelled racist
The elite class in British society, particularly those with left-leaning views, often spread misinformation to support their socially “liberal” agenda, Matt Goodwin says. For example, in a recent interview with Rupert Lowe MP, Emily Maitlis, a former BBC presenter and now an independent podcaster, misrepresented evidence on Pakistani Muslim rape gangs, claiming that white British men are more likely to be involved in organized rape gangs. However, evidence from various reports and investigations consistently shows that Pakistani Muslim men are disproportionately more likely to be arrested and convicted of organized rape gang activity. But this evidence is being suppressed because it is considered racist.

US government cancels funding to Moderna for its bird flu vaccine
The Trump Administration has halted an award worth $766 million that was intended to support Moderna in the development of a bird flu vaccine. The decision to stop the funding is a significant setback for Moderna’s efforts to create a vaccine for the bird flu, and the company has acknowledged the termination of the award. The award, which was valued at $766 million, was initially intended to aid Moderna in its research and development of a bird flu vaccine, but the Trump Administration has now decided to withdraw the funding, effectively ending the company’s access to these resources.

Which stories made the cut for this week’s News Round-Up broadcast?  Here’s a sample from the early minutes of the program:

–Last weekend, dozens of protesters in Wichita, Kansas, clogged the downtown sidewalks chanting James Comey’s slogan and not a single person was arrested for threatening President Trump.

–Scott Shara is the father of 19 year old Grace Shara who had Downs Syndrome and died in October of 2021.  A jury trial (Shara v. Ascension Health) on Monday, June 2 will address the alleged wrongful death of Grace and the results could have broader implications for accountability in U.S. health care.

–Hamas has rejected the latest U.S. proposal for a cease-fire and hostage release unless changes are made to the agreement drafted by U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff.

–Health Secretary Robert F. –Argentina has reaffirmed its decision to withdraw from the World Health Organization.

–Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his government is talking to the U.S. about joining President Trump’s future Golden Dome missile defense program.

News Weakly – 5/31/2025 | Winging It

At It Again
The Texas House has given preliminary approval to require all public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments in an 88-49 vote. Of course, “But … but … separation of church and state!” Find that in the Constitution. Thomas Jefferson mentioned it, but his concern wasn’t keeping the church out of the state, but the state out of the church. And, consider … the Ten Commandments isn’t “church” — it’s Jewish. More to the point, it’s almost entirely universal. I, for one, wouldn’t mind reminding school children “Thou shalt not kill” since America is fine with killing when it suits them (as in unborn children) … and then complaining about school shootings.

Apologies
An American citizen was arrested for attempting to destroy the Branch Office of the US. Embassy in Tel Aviv because of his antisemitic hate. To the world, we say, “Sorry. Blame the Left.” Somehow, hating whites and loving blacks, hating Jews and loving Palestinians, hating the lives of the unborn while loving “choice” all equate to “fair and equal” in the eyes of some people.

Do What I Say
A “pastor” in Atlanta is leading a boycott of Target … for eliminating DEI principles and failing to invest in “black-owned banks, businesses and education.” “You can do business, but you will do it the way we demand, because that’s what Jesus would do.” Look it up … 3 Peter 5:12. Why does it have to be a pastor?

Celebrating Government Spending
Elon Musk is stepping down from his position in the Trump administration … as was planned from the beginning. Despite his enthusiasm and oversteps, he failed to reach his goals, but he’s ending because “my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end.” And the loudest Left cheers because it there’s anything we know, it’s that the government must not spend less. In a parallel story, the IRS is releasing a new simplified tax form for next year. Line 1: How much did you make? Line 2: Send it in.

Your Best Source for Fake News
Perfectly on point, the Bee reports that Elon Musk is leaving his job of creating a more efficient government for the much easier job of sending humans to Mars. is that even a joke? Just for fun (because I like Calvin and Hobbes), there’s a story about a guy who got 90% of his advanced vocabulary from … Calvin and Hobbes. (If you’re familiar with the comic strip, you get it.) Finally, a twofer. With Trump’s ban on international students at Harvard (actual story), American Harvard students are going to have to figure out who to cheat off of now, and Harvard is going to have to start accepting students from Ohio. Ouch!

Must be true; I read it on the Internet.

Falling For Socialism | ZeroHedge

Authroed by Lika Kobeshavidze via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Across college campuses, on TikTok feeds, and in everyday conversations, a familiar narrative is gaining steam: capitalism is broken.

Custom image by FEE

Rising rents and stagnant wages fuel the claim among some young people that free markets have failed an entire generation. According to a 2024 poll by the Institute of Economic Affairs, more than 60 percent of young Britons now view socialism favorably. In the United States, the trend is similar, with Generation Z increasingly skeptical of capitalism’s promises.

But much of this idealism is rooted in distance—many of the young people romanticizing socialism have never lived through the economic dysfunction or political repression it often brings. For those who experienced Soviet shortages, Venezuelan collapse, or East Germany’s surveillance, the word socialism doesn’t suggest fairness or opportunity—it suggests fear, failure, and control. There’s a reason so many fled those systems to come to freer countries. What sounds utopian in theory has too often turned dystopian in practice.

But blaming capitalism misses the mark. The real culprit is cronyism, the unholy alliance between big government and big business that twists markets, blocks competition, and rewards political connections over genuine innovation.

The Myth of Market Failure

Capitalism, in its true form, is based on voluntary exchange. It rewards businesses that meet people’s needs and wants, with consumers deciding what succeeds and what fails. Competition drives improvement, innovation, and lower prices. No one is forced to buy or sell anything; choice reigns.

Cronyism is a different beast altogether. In a crony system, businesses succeed not by serving customers but by lobbying politicians. Profits come through subsidies, bailouts, and regulations designed to crush competition.

The 2008 financial crisis, often cited as proof of capitalism’s failures, actually showcased what happens when markets are rigged. Reckless banks, instead of collapsing as they deserved, were bailed out with taxpayer money. Ordinary people lost jobs and homes, while the politically connected survived and thrived.

This wasn’t free enterprise. It was cronyism.

The COVID-19 pandemic provided a grim sequel. Small businesses were forced to shut their doors under government mandates. Meanwhile, corporate giants like Amazon, able to operate under looser restrictions or pivot online, soared to record profits. Policies, written in the name of public health, often privileged the biggest players while leaving Main Street devastated.

Cronyism on Both Sides of the Atlantic

Cronyism is not limited to one country or one political party. Across the United States and Europe, the symptoms are the same.

In the U.S., Canada, and the UK, the dream of homeownership slips further away for young people. Sky-high housing prices are blamed on “market failure,” but the real cause lies in layers of government-imposed barriers: restrictive zoning laws, burdensome permitting requirements, and endless bureaucratic delays. Big developers who can afford to navigate or influence the system survive. Everyone else gets locked out.

In Europe, the pattern repeats. France’s labor laws, designed to protect workers, instead stifle opportunity. Hiring becomes risky and expensive, especially for young people. Large corporations, with the resources to manage compliance costs, consolidate their dominance. Small firms and startups never get off the ground.

There’s also a persistent myth that big business fears government intervention. In reality, the largest corporations often embrace it, because it keeps them on top. Tech giants like Facebook and Google now lobby for more regulation, knowing that complex new rules will strangle smaller competitors who can’t afford fleets of compliance officers. Green energy subsidies, meant to combat climate change, often end up showering billions on well-connected firms while locking out emerging innovators.

Cronyism doesn’t reward the best ideas. It rewards the best lobbyists.

Why Gen Z’s Frustration Is Justified

Gen Z values fairness, creativity, and freedom. The very principles cronyism undermines. When political influence matters more than merit, and when success depends on government favoritism instead of consumer satisfaction, opportunity shrinks and innovation slows. But they are wrong when they think “socialism” would be a better option, not least because of the rampant cronyism that has existed in every socialist state.

The temptation to seek salvation through government power is not new. The Soviet Union began with a promise of equality and delivered oppression and scarcity (except for the party elites). Venezuela promised 21st-century socialism and delivered hunger, economic collapse, and political repression. Meanwhile, countries that embraced market freedom—even imperfectly—created unparalleled prosperity. Free markets have lifted billions out of poverty, and unleashed innovation that reshaped the modern world.

Markets aren’t flawless. But they leave the door open for anyone to succeed, not just those born into privilege or connected to power.

Aim Your Anger at the Right Target

Gen Z’s frustration is real, and it deserves an outlet. But the answer is not to tear down capitalism; it’s to tear down cronyism. A freer, fairer future depends on separating business from political power, not binding them closer together. It means ending corporate welfare, simplifying the rules of the game, and making sure that competition, not connections, decides who wins.

The fight for fairness is worth waging. But it must be aimed in the right direction. If we rage against cronyism, not capitalism, we can build a future where innovation thrives, opportunity is real, and every member of Generation Z has a genuine chance to rise.

Israel becomes the first country to down drones in combat with a laser weapon | Business Insider

  • Israel’s military is the first to use laser weapons to shoot down drones in war.
  • The systems were prototypes and are being integrated into the country’s air defenses.
  • Videos and photos show the system, made by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

Israel’s military used new laser weapons to kill enemy drones, making it the first country to do so in a war.

It marks a major development in the fielding and use of these experimental weapons, which militaries worldwide are developing to deepen their defenses against drones and missiles, reducing the strain on other missiles and other projectiles.

Israel’s Ministry of Defense announced that soldiers from Israeli Air Force Aerial Defense Array deployed and operated a high-power laser system prototype, which successfully intercepted enemy threats. It is a big step closer to strategists’ vision of a future battlefield where the expanding threat of missiles and drones can be countered by the zaps of laser weapons that have an unlimited magazine.

A video shared by the Israeli Ministry of Defense showed the laser systems in action, in at least 3 interceptions. One engagement shows the laser igniting the drone’s wingtip, causing it to spiral and crash.

Brig. Gen. Yehuda Elmakayes, head of the ministry’s defense and research directorate, said prototypes have previously been deployed “culminating in the world’s first successful high-power laser interceptions on the battlefield.”

Feedback from the use of the weapons will continue to inform their use and development, he and other officials said in a statement shared with BI.

The systems are made by Israeli-based defense company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. They’re directed energy weapons that point an intense beam of light at a target and use heat to damage or destroy it; these processes demand pinpoint accuracy and high power.

The defense ministry said the weapons “complement the more powerful Iron Beam system,” a larger network of similar systems that’s in the works.

Iron Beam is estimated to cost $500 million and would add another layer to Israel’s layered air defenses — one especially useful against the kinds of drones that Hamas and Hezbollah wield.

Laser weapons have been a priority for militaries around world, especially in the Middle East, where countries are racing to field the technology. Besides Israel, Saudia Arabia is using Chinese systems to develop laser air defense capacities, while the United Arab Emirates is working on its own system.

The US, too, is actively working on laser prototypes, such as the AN/SEQ-3 Laser Weapon System made by Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, as well as microwave emitters and other directed-energy weapons.

Officials have suggested lasers are particularly useful for taking out cheaper enemy targets like drones rather than expending expensive missile interceptors. That’s been at the forefront of conversations around conflicts in waters around the Middle East, where the US has expended over a billion dollars in munitions to shoot down Houthi drones.

With Israel’s landmark use of the weapon, Rafael CEO Yoav Tourgeman said the system “will fundamentally change the defense equation by enabling fast, precise, cost-effective interceptions, unmatched by any existing system.”

There remain issues, though, surrounding the amount of power and accuracy needed for a laser to destroy its target.

Lasers have struggled to work around water or through clouds or smoke, because moisture or other particles diffuse the laser’s beam. And even a functional laser weapon requires a high-voltage energy source and an accurate sensor system that are likely to become targets of attack.

In their upside down, Alice-in-Wonderland version of reality, the left has a point when they cast George Orwell as a prophet of our times.

Our world increasingly resembles the soul-crushing landscape of manipulation the English writer limned in the pages of “1984” and “Animal Farm.” Powerful forces in government, media, academia, and business have transformed much of the news into propaganda. During the Biden years, for example, the left cast their push for censorship as a commitment to truth and the coercive control of everyday life as the flowering of freedom. Talk about Orwellian.

Now that Donald Trump is back in office, they are once again insisting the president and his populist supports on the right are an existential threat to liberty.

Blessedly, however, we still live in a relatively open society. Many of us can see through and expose their deceit. That’s why Hans Christian Anderson rivals Orwell as our most useful modern prophet. His tale, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” captures the daily experience of watching very serious people holding very serious conversations about total nonsense.

It’s why watching the news makes us channel our inner Elvis – give me a gun so I can shoot that TV.

The most recent front-page example is the wall-to-wall coverage of Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s new book, “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.” They report that hundreds of people knew that Biden was not up to running the country, and yet this scheming horde hid this secret from the legacy media. It was only after they lost the election that these conspirators decided to spill the beans.

In fact, polls show millions of people knew the score on Biden well before the election. One didn’t need special access, just two eyes to see the truth. Yes, it is nice to have the book’s detail on the consternation about Biden’s infirmities, but that just confirms rather than expands our knowledge.

Even as it pretends to reveal the truth, “Original Sin” is another exercise in gaslighting, because it tries to make the starting point of the story – the effort to hide Biden’s incapacity – its endpoint.

The pressing issue, however, is not the cover-up, but the cover-up of the cover-up. Which unelected officials were running the government in Biden’s name? How did they do it? How did they justify it? Turning the old Watergate question around: What did the president notknow and when did he not know it? And, why did so many of the nation’s most influential news outlets participate in this charade? How was Biden’s health discussed in top newsrooms? Who made the decision to dismiss these consequential concerns?

Answering those questions and naming names is the urgent task for media outlets who have already lost the trust of much of the country because of their partisan coverage. Instead of experiencing a come-to-Jesus moment, however, the legacy media is likely to use its coverage of the book to bury the Biden years under the claim that the key questions have now been asked and answered. It will use the “lessons” it learned as a reason to pound Trump even harder, including questioning his mental fitness.

If Democrats and their media stenographers have learned anything, it is that they will almost certainly get away with it. The Biden cover-up is part of a decades-long pattern in which they have stridently misled the American people – against all evidence – about the biggest issues of the day.

The short list includes advancing the clearly bogus claims that Trump conspired with Vladimir Putin to steal the 2016 election; attacking those who made the obvious connection between the origins of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China, and the Wuhan Institute of Virology; delegitimizing reports about the material on Hunter Biden’s laptop detailing the Biden family’s influence-peddling schemes; and the truly Orwellian effort to disparage honest challenges of official narratives as “misinformation” and “disinformation.”

Going back nearly two decades, there was the 2006 Duke lacrosse case, in which local and national media outlets echoed a local Democrat district attorney’s assertion that a bunch of rich preppies had raped a poor black stripper. There was never any real evidence for this heinous crime, apart from the troubled woman’s claims. Yet the young men were convicted in the press simply because of their alleged privilege. A few years after this shameful episode, the media were back it, advancing false narratives about the deaths of Trayvon Martin in 2012 and Michael Brown in 2014 to allege a war on blacks – setting the stage for the racist convulsions of the Black Lives Matters movement and DEI programs.

None of these missteps resulted in soul-searching – though a few did result in Pulitzer Prizes. The next few years promise more of the same: the Orwellian twisting of facts that will bombard us with dangerous lies. As the aptly named group “Talking Heads” once sang: Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

It’s enough to make you go full Elvis.
