The room did not change God. You did. | Pastor Rich Bitterman

Feb 11

We sometimes assume that God is more attentive in certain places than in others.

Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for ‘In him we live and move and have our being.’” Acts 17:27–28 (ESV)

Paul speaks these words in a city crowded with ideas about God. Against all that distance and speculation, he insists on nearness. God is not reached by climbing but recognized by living. Every breath, every movement, every moment already takes place within His presence.

This truth corrects a subtle temptation.

We look for conditions that make God feel closer. Quiet rooms, better moods, improved focus. While such things can help, they are not what establish nearness. Paul’s words place God at the center of ordinary existence, not at the edge of religious effort.

Many of us feel discouraged when prayer seems difficult, assuming the problem is distance rather than attention.

If in Him we live and move and have our being, then no part of life falls outside His awareness. Workdays and rest days. Clarity and confusion. Strength and fatigue. God’s nearness does not increase or decrease with our awareness of it.

This steadiness reshapes prayer. We are not calling across a gap. We are speaking to the One who already holds our life together. Words become simpler. Silence becomes acceptable. Faith learns to breathe.

Christ embodies this nearness.

He did not stand apart from human life but entered it fully. In Him, God’s closeness is no longer an idea but a person. To belong to Christ is to live every moment already held.

The day does not need to feel special for God to be present. It only needs to be lived honestly before Him. That is enough.

Today: As you go about one routine task, quietly acknowledge that God is present there with you. Let that awareness remain gentle and unforced.

Watch Your Step — The Power of His Presence

Man Pondering in Search for Meaning

Guard your steps when you go to the house of God

Ecclesiastes 5:1a

Learn to let God be God; that is the first thing He declares to us. The lessons of life will fall into place when you learn that. God is in charge of life, so let Him be in charge; take these lessons from His hands.

The place to learn that is in the house of God. When you go there, guard your steps; in other words, enter thoughtfully, expect to be taught something. In ancient Israel, of course, the house of God was the temple in Jerusalem. There sacrifices were offered, and the people were instructed about what they meant. There the Law was read, and the wisdom of God about life was given to people; this marvelous Old Testament was unfolded, with its tremendous insights into the truth about life, about what humanity basically and fundamentally is. The temple was the only place in the land where people could learn these things. In our day the house of God is no longer a building. We must be clear about that. You, the people, are the house of God. What the Searcher is saying is that when you gather together as the people of God, be expectant; there is something to be learned.

Second, he says, listen carefully. A fool is somebody who glibly utters naive, ingenuous, and usually false things. What the Searcher clearly has in mind here is our tendency to complain and murmur about what has been handed us in life. When we gripe and grouse about our circumstances, we are really complaining against God. We are complaining about the choice God has made in His wonderful plan for our life. We will never learn to enjoy anything that way, not even our pleasures, let alone our pain. So, he says, listen carefully, for among the people of God the truth of God is being declared; the wisdom of God is being set forth.

A man said to me, I have been going through a painful experience this past week. I learned to see myself, and it horrified me. I saw things in myself which I despise in others. That is encouraging. There is a man who is learning truth about himself.

Lord, forgive me for my glib attitudes when I come into Your presence. Teach me to guard my steps and listen carefully to Your words.

Life Application

What is the first thought that pops into our mind when we ask: Who is in charge? Have we learned to let God be God and to humbly inquire and listen to His wisdom?

Listen to Ray

Ecclesiastes 5:1-17

1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.

2 Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart
to utter anything before God.
God is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.

3 As a dream comes when there are many cares,
so the speech of a fool when there are many words.

4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. 5 It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it. 6 Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands? 7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God.

8 If you see the poor oppressed in a district, and justice and rights denied, do not be surprised at such things; for one official is eyed by a higher one, and over them both are others higher still. 9 The increase from the land is taken by all; the king himself profits from the fields.

10 Whoever loves money never has money enough;
whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income.
This too is meaningless.

11 As goods increase,
so do those who consume them.
And what benefit are they to the owner
except to feast his eyes on them?

12 The sleep of a laborer is sweet,
whether he eats little or much,
but the abundance of a rich man
permits him no sleep.

13 I have seen a grievous evil under the sun:
wealth hoarded to the harm of its owner,

14 or wealth lost through some misfortune,
so that when he has a son
there is nothing left for him.

15 Naked a man comes from his mother’s womb,
and as he comes, so he departs.
He takes nothing from his labor
that he can carry in his hand.

16 This too is a grievous evil:
As a man comes, so he departs,
and what does he gain,
since he toils for the wind?

17 All his days he eats in darkness,
with great frustration, affliction and anger.

Devotional for February 11, 2026 | Wednesday: Their Fear of Jesus

Until the Third Day

Matthew 27:62-64 In this week’s lessons we look at various ways Christ’s enemies opposed Him, but that He rose victoriously on the first day of the week.

Theme

Their Fear of Jesus

Not only did they understand the teaching, but they feared the teacher. Oh, they wouldn’t have said that. They were not afraid Jesus might rise from dead. Instead, they feared that Jesus’ disciples might come and steal the body and claim Jesus had risen from the dead. But deep down underneath, who was it they really feared? Was it the disciples? That insignificant band of cowardly men who didn’t even have the courage to stand by their Lord at the time of the arrest and the trial and who scattered at the crucifixion, who were nowhere around and couldn’t be found? Was it really that weak, insignificant band they feared? Or did they really fear the Master?

I think everything about the trial, and all the details of that last week in Jerusalem, showed that they really feared Him. The use of Judas in the trial is an indication of that. Why did they have to use Judas after all? Two answers are usually given to that question.

The first answer is that they had to use Judas because they didn’t know where Christ was hiding and Judas was necessary to bring them to His hiding place.

The second answer is that they used Judas so that they could arrest Christ secretly for fear of the people. Those seem good until you examine them in a little greater detail. How about this matter of Christ being in hiding? The difficulty with that explanation is that Christ wasn’t in hiding. Oh, it’s true earlier in the ministry there had been periods where He withdrew Himself in order not to precipitate arrest and a trial because He was in charge of these events and was timing them to coincide with the great feast of Israel in order that His death might be interpreted by the death of the Passover lambs. Earlier He had hidden, but at this stage in His ministry He wasn’t in hiding. He had come up from Jericho to Bethany openly on the Friday before the Passover and there had raised Lazarus from the dead in the midst of a great crowd and they all stood around the grave. The next day was the Sabbath and we’re told that men and women came from the areas round about to see Him and to talk with Lazarus who had been raised.

On the next day, what we now know as Palm Sunday, He entered into Jerusalem with great display and crowds went with Him as they were going up to the feast. He could hardly have done things more openly and on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, He went back and forth in and out of the city. He cleansed the temple openly. There wasn’t any difficulty in knowing where Christ was. They wished He had been in hiding during that particular week!

As for the second reason, some people say, “Well the matter is this, he was popular and they wanted to arrest Him when people weren’t there to cause trouble.” There is some substance to that. Obviously He was popular at least in a superficial way. Obviously they were afraid of the people. They didn’t want an uprising. The leaders confessed as much. They said, “If there’s trouble the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.” But that’s hardly an adequate explanation for the use of Judas. All they had to do was lie in wait for him somewhere on the road to Bethany where He went back and forth every day of Passover week. Or for that matter they could have gone to Bethany and arrested Him there. Why would they pay Judas money to point out Christ’s whereabouts?

In Frank Morrison’s book Who Moved the Stone? he suggests what I believe to be the right answer and it is something like this. They had tried to arrest Christ earlier. There are many incidences of that. On one occasion they sent the temple guards, telling them, “Arrest Him and bring Him back to us.!” And the temple guards went, they heard Christ’s teaching, and they came back without Him.

The leaders said, “Where is He? Why haven’t you brought Him?” They gave an answer that is just incredible for soldiers. They said, “No man ever spake like this man.” They had sent the guards but the guards were overpowered simply by Christ’s words.

Or again, they tried to take Him on another occasion about which John tells us and he says that Jesus simply escaped out of their hands and He hid Himself. Another time they tried to do that and Jesus passed through the midst of them and went on His way. See, they tried to arrest Him and they had failed. Coupled with that there was the problem of His miracles. They didn’t deny His miracles later in His ministry. At the beginning they did. They said, “The man’s a charlatan. These things are fake.” Later on they said, “They’re not fake. It’s obvious that He’s really doing these things, but He’s doing them by the power of the devil.”

Study Questions

  1. What two answers are often given for why the religious leaders used Judas to get to Jesus? What is the problem with each answer?
  2. What difficulties did Jesus’ opponents experience when they tried to arrest Jesus in the past?

Application

Reflection: What does it reveal about those religious leaders who reached the point where they would actually attribute Jesus’ miracles to the work of Satan?

Lament and Confess the Corruption of your Entire Being

Matthew Henry’s “Method For Prayer”

Confession 2.5 | ESV

The corruption of the whole man: Irregular appetites towards those things that are pleasing to sense, and inordinate passions against those things that are displeasing, and an alienation of the mind from the principles, powers, and pleasures of the spiritual and divine life.

I am born of the flesh, and I am flesh. John 3:6(ESV) Dust I am: Genesis 3:19(ESV) I have borne the image of the man of dust; 1 Corinthians 15:49(ESV) and in me (that is, in my flesh) dwells nothing good. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out; for I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Romans 7:18-19(ESV)

I have a law in my members my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members; Romans 7:23(ESV) so that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand, Romans 7:21(ESV) and clings to us so closely. Hebrews 12:1(ESV)

The whole head is sick, the whole heart is faint; from the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in me, but bruises and sores and raw wounds. Isaiah 1:5-6(ESV)

There is in me a bent to turn away from the living God: Hosea 11:7(ESV) My heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick; who can understand them? Jeremiah 17:9(ESV) They start aside like a treacherous bow. Hosea 7:16(ESV)

The Names of God: YHWH Jireh | Place for Truth

Siblings have ways of tormenting each other. A boy will position his finger about an inch from his sister’s shoulder and say, “I’m not touching you!” And few things are as creepy as someone staring at you, even if it’s a sibling, or a puppy watching you get dressed. There is something unsettling about being the object of someone’s steady gaze.

However, there are times when you wish someone were watching you. Maybe as a child you were making your first dive into the pool. Often, it’s when you feel alone and neglected, wondering if anyone cares about you.

Hagar, Abram and Sarai’s Egyptian maid, was kicked out of the tent by Sarai because Hagar found her contemptible. As part of a misguided plan to fulfill God’s will for children, Hagar found herself in the wilderness with no family but her son. God graciously appeared to Hagar and promised that Ishmael would be the father of many nations. In response, Hagar called God “El Roi,” “a God who sees.” She recognized that God saw her affliction and would meet her needs far into the future. One son was preserved.

Later, Sarah bore the promised son, Isaac. When he was about 20 years old and singularly beloved by Abraham, God told Abraham to sacrifice his son on Mount Moriah. On the way, Isaac asked his father, “Where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham replied, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” God stopped the sacrifice and provided a ram in place of Isaac. Abraham, astonished and relieved, honored God by naming the place, “Yahweh Yir’eh,” “Yahweh will provide (or “see”).” The name stuck; hundreds of years later, people knew the saying, “In the mount of YHWH it will be provided (or seen).” Another son was preserved.

The meaning of the tetragrammaton “YHWH” has been examined for centuries. Most scholars settle on either “I AM” or “I WILL BE.” Either choice is syntactically correct and theologically accurate. God is who he is: singular, eternal, unchanging, and lifegiving. In context, the Name presents God not only as the One Who Is, but the One Who Is always present with his people (Exodus 3:12–16). YHWH’s relationship with his people is as unchangeable as his nature. It is not just an expression of mere existence—it is an active expression of his being.

YHWH is often compounded with other words to form new, peculiarly descriptive names for God. These compound names focus on a particular attribute of God that is manifest in his actions in a given situation toward an individual or group. “Yir’ah (Jireh)” is from a root word meaning “see.” Compounded with YHWH (Jehovah), it means that God continually sees or notices. That God will see, or look out for, is a comforting result of His foreknowledge and committed ability always to provide what is best for his people.

One of the accepted translations of Moriah is “Seen by Yah.” Mount Moriah proved to be a place where YHWH provided mankind’s greatest need: salvation through sacrifice. Isaac was saved through a sacrificial substitute ram. When David numbered Israel, incurring God’s wrath, God instructed David to build an altar on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite at Moriah (1 Chronicles 21:18) to stay the plague. The sons of Israel were saved through sacrificial substitute burnt offerings.

Solomon built the first temple on Mount Moriah (2 Chronicles 3:1). At the dedication of this place of sacrifice, God promised, “My eyes and my heart will be there for all time” (2 Chronicles 7:16). Many sons were saved by substitutionary sacrifices. YHWH Jireh!

In the same vein, Zerubbabel’s and Herod’s temples (and the future millennial temple) were built on Mount Moriah. When Jesus was crucified on the Moriah range, many sons were saved by the substitutionary sacrifice of the Lamb of God. Mount Moriah was a test of Abraham’s faith; Mt. Calvary was a test of God’s faithfulness. YHWH Jireh!

My license plate reads, “GOD SEEZ,” a reminder that God is always watching. That “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3) should not be unsettling for the child of God, purchased through sacrifice. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).

Find comfort because “[YHWH Jireh], who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32).

Philippians: Trial Equals Opportunity | Today in the Word

Wednesday, February 11 | Philippians 1
On the Go? Listen Now!
You might not know that The Pilgrim’s Progress was written in prison. The author, John Bunyan, was imprisoned for preaching in public without a license. At the time the local authorities banned such preachers, so they put Bunyan in jail for 12 years. But if their goal was to silence him, they failed. Bunyan used the time to write The Pilgrim’s Progress, which has become one of the most printed books in the English-speaking world.Paul wrote Philippians under similar circumstances. He was falsely accused of bringing a Gentile into the Jewish Temple and this precipitated a series of events which led to his incarceration. One would expect this difficult situation to result in frustration and anger for the apostle, but he had a different perspective. He accepted this trial as from the hand of God and focused on opportunities it presented him.In his letter to the Philippians, Paul noted that during his imprisonment the gospel was being preached to people who would not normally hear it (v. 13). Paul would not have had access to the palace guard if he had not been placed in prison! In addition, as other believers watched him endure this trial with grace and a sense of mission, they became bolder (v. 14). Finally, Paul used his time in prison to write letters to Christian communities. These letters made an impact on early Christians and continue to do so today.Paul’s example reminds us that we have options when enduring a trial. We can languish under the pain and a sense of injustice, or we can lean in and look for the opportunities it creates. Your accusers may intend to silence you, but they may be giving you a platform for the gospel.

February 11 Evening Verse of the Day

15:16. Better is a little with the fear of the LORD, Than great treasure and turmoil with it.
This is another of ‘Proverbs’ many ‘Better … than’ bits of wisdom (Prov. 12:9; 15:16, 17; 16:8, 16, 19, 32; 17:1; 19:1, 22; 21:9, 19; 22:1; 25:7, 24; 27:5, 10; 28:6). Clearly, this proverb builds off of the cue of the ‘continual feast’ in the previous verse, yet that connection is only loose compared to the link with verse 17.
The point here seems to be the comparative quality of contentment and covetousness, worry and wealth, treasure and turmoil. The ‘little’ of line one is not specified. It does not require that we picture abject poverty; the contrast is with ‘great treasure.’ This comparative ‘little’ is not, in itself, to be preferred over ‘great treasure.’ It is ‘little’ when accompanied with ‘the fear of the LORD,’ which is of far greater worth.
The contrast between ‘the fear of the LORD’ and ‘turmoil’ does not, at first glance, appear to be clear. The word ‘turmoil’ describes ‘wild, confused disorder, extreme discord.’ It is a word often associated with holy war and describes the confused and frantic state of the enemies of God when faced with His holy presence and power (Deut. 7:23; 28:20; 1 Sam. 5:9, 11; 14:20; 2 Chron. 15:5; Isa. 22:5; Amos 3:9). This helps us understand that the ‘great treasure’ is that which is acquired outside the bounds of God’s will (Ps. 37:16; Prov. 10:2; 16:8). Better to trust God with your investment portfolio than to throw aside the boundaries of His revealed will and attempt to gain security through your own frantic attempts to amass a financial sanctuary. ‘But godliness actually is a means of great gain, when accompanied by contentment’ (1 Tim. 6:6).

Kitchen, J. A. (2006). Proverbs: A Mentor Commentary (pp. 334–335). Mentor.

Ver. 16.—Better is little with the fear of the Lord. The good man’s little store, which bears upon it the blessing of the Lord, is better than great treasure and trouble therewith, i.e. with the treasure (ch. 16:8; Ps. 37:16). The trouble intended is the care and labour and anxiety attending the pursuit and preservation of wealth. “Much coin, much care” (comp. Eccles. 6:4). It was good advice of the old moralist, “Sis pauper honeste potius quam dives male; Namque hoc fert crimen, illud misericordiam.” Vulgate, thesauri magni et insatiabiles, “treasures which satisfy not;” Septuagint, “Great treasures without fear (of the Lord).” Christ’s maxim is, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt. 6:33).

The Word, Necessary Food | VCY

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)

If God so willed it we could live without bread, even as Jesus did for forty days; but we could not live without His Word. By that Word we were created, and by it alone can we be kept in being, for he sustaineth all things by the Word of His power. Bread is a second cause; the Lord Himself is the first source of our sustenance. He can work without the second cause as well as with it; and we must not tie Him down to one mode of operation. Let us not be too eager after the visible, but let us look to the invisible God. We have heard believers say that in deep poverty, when bread ran short, their appetites became short, too; and to others, when common supplies failed, the Lord has sent in unexpected help.

But we must have the Word of the Lord. With this alone we can withstand the devil. Take this from us, and our enemy will have us in his power, for we shall soon faint. Our souls need food, and there is none for them outside of the Word of the Lord. All the books and all the preachers in the world cannot furnish us a single meal: it is only the Word from the mouth of God that can fill the mouth of a believer. Lord, evermore give us this bread. We prize it above royal dainties.

We Have Had Enough of False Prophets! | Christian Research Network by Marsha West

By Marsha West

In 2008 I penned the attached article analyzing the Lakeland Revival and its leader evangelist/healer/prophet Todd Bentley. The so-called revival lasted several months and included “supernatural manifestations” and experiences. At that time many of us were hopeful that NAR/Bethel’s goose was cooked when the abusive Bentley was brought down for far worse offenses than the recent wrong doings Shawn BolzTodd White and several other charismatic hustlers are accused of committing.

In 2008, when news broke of Todd Bentley’s adultery, Charismatic Church leadership removed him from ministry causing the event to be abruptly shut down. Thereafter, Bentley spent a short time undergoing “restoration and repentance” under NAR leaders Rick Joyner, Bill Johnson and Ché Ahn. Knowing Bentley was convicted of sexual assault at the age of 15, knowing that during the “revival” there were creditable accusations that he was responsible for financial mismanagement, knowing about his excessive drinking…exaggerated healings…unsubstantiated claims that people were raised from the dead…and finally, knowing the adultery with a woman on his staff led to him abandoning his wife and children, the men responsible for his restoration quickly returned him to ministry. In doing so, they showed they were completely bereft of good judgement. Hebrews 5:14 reminds us “…solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”

So – with this backdrop in place, read the article. What you’re about to learn will shock you. Examine the moral depravity, lies and cover-up that charismatic leaders permitted at the event that was sold to the public as a “revival” and then ask yourself this question: Will the recent videos produced by Christian apologist and Bible teacher Mike Winger to enlighten the charismatic community about Bethel Church, Shawn Bolz and Todd White’s treachery become the catalyst that will give rise to the much needed “reform” in the chaotic Charismatic Church Mike is praying for? Or will it turn out to be another slap on the wrist and a return to business as usual, just like what happened in 2008?

There is no question that a spiritual battle is going on between the unseen forces of good and evil. And Mike Winger’s in the thick of it. Pray for divine guidance as he endeavors to discern what is good and what is evil. (Ephesians 6:10-20)

==================

Lakeland Florida 2008

The Holy Spirit is on the move.  He’s working in the minds and mouths of the false prophets.  BAM!  They’ve fallen and they can’t get up.

On June 23rd God moved a mountain — figuratively speaking — and the Charismatic church has been in chaos ever since.  That day several of the New Apostolic Reformation leaders met in Lakeland, Florida for Todd Bentley’s “apostolic alignment commissioning service.”  What happened was mind-blowing.  I’m not talking about miraculous signs and wonders. There was no gold dust, no oil soaked hands, no angels with shimmering clothes and bright blue eyes hovering on stage.  There was none of that — but there was a whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on!

Such notables as C. Peter Wagner, leader of the International Coalition of Apostles, his wife, Doris, Ché Ahn, John ArnottBill JohnsonRick Joyner and several others came to the 10,000-seat tent to support what Todd Bentley and Fresh Fire were doing and to commission him as an evangelist.  There was only one problem.  The leaders failed to put Bentley through a proper vetting process to find out if he was deserving of their high honor.  Turns out he wasn’t.  Now they have egg on their collective faces and everyone knows it.

As a result, many in the Charismatic church are furious with them — but it’s too late. The damage is already done and cannot be undone. What’s worse, thousands of people believed there was a “revival” going on and traveled from all over the globe to be a part of it.  Some went hoping to be healed.  They weren’t.  Now they realize they were duped and have fallen into despair. People are wondering if they are even saved! (For those who doubt their salvation, remember that anyone who comes to faith in the real Jesus Christ is saved.)

This article is not about false prophet Todd Bentley; it’s about the esteemed leaders and role models who helped create the Lakeland disaster.

Before I proceed, let’s unpack the “latter rain” movement. Without getting too far afieldNew Apostolic Reformation (NAR) movement holds that God is restoring the lost offices of church governance, namely the offices of Prophet and Apostle. The founder of the movement is C. Peter Wagner. (More on Wagner in a moment.) The Prophets and Apostles are said to be given:

“…power and authority by God to lead by serving, as described in the biblical letter of the apostle Paul to the Ephesians. As such, they believe in the 5-fold offices of the Church first popularized in Charismatic groups; of which the prophet and apostle has been absent from the Church for the last 2000 years, and are now being restored.” [1]

People in this movement believe that the Apostles and Prophets have authority over the Church.  Even though they hold a high office, the “apostles” and “prophets” don’t see eye to eye on everything.  It has now come to light that some of the “apostles” were concerned about the possible dangers of commissioning Todd Bentley and warned other “apostles” but they were rebuffed – and they’re not taking it lying down. They wrote letters to apologize for the bad judgment of those who disagreed with them, thus bringing outsiders into the squabble.  The letters are posted on their websites for the entire world to read.

Returning to the Lakeland disaster, according to The Voice Magazine:

“Discerning Christians recognized the tell tale signs of a disaster in the making at the Lakeland Revival. We’ve seen these sorts of tragedies occur time and time again in the Body of Christ over the decades.  We all hoped to see a different outcome here, but the fruit of Bentley’s personal life reveals he was not ready for the level of public ministry he received and that he should never have been commissioned in an internationally televised ‘apostolic alignment commissioning service.’ Stepping down is an appropriate move in the right direction. Our concern is not only for the Bentleys, but the thousands of people around the world who are questioning everything they saw on God TV from the meetings at the Lakeland Revival. A lot of healing is going to be needed in the days ahead and many questions answered.” [2]

We are already receiving answers to our questions. Charismatic pastor Dutch Sheets said the following in his official statement on Lakeland, which he deems an apology: (All Dutch Sheets’ quotes are from his apology [3])

“But looking past some of the immediate and positive results, I, like many, also looked ahead to the possible fruit from questionable doctrine and experiences, exaggeration and hype, youthful pride, character issues and the frightening potential of a 32 year ‘young’ man leading a movement that could shape the future of the Church.

“These things were frightening, very frightening, to others and me. When something has the potential of setting precedent, birthing a movement and being reproduced as a prototype, we are no longer simply endorsing good brothers, good intentions and miracles.

“Doctrine and foundations will be built on these events. Teachings and paradigms for future ministries will be formed – in short, the next generation of the church and the move of God in the earth could be greatly impacted. This is why I stopped short of endorsing everything at Lakeland.”

Dutch also stopped short of expressing his concerns to the Body of Christ, even though he claims he had a “check” in his spirit. He decided to ignore “…the uneasiness, the sickening feeling deep in my spirit telling me something else was wrong – terribly wrong – in this situation.”

Many Charismatic leaders felt something was terribly wrong at Lakeland as well, but they were not candid about their concerns. Sheets now comes forward and says he knew something was terribly wrong, yet he tried to push Bentley’s “showmanship” out of his mind:

“…the ‘bams,’ the head butts and kneeing, along with certain experiences and doctrines, all in order to embrace the good. Like many of my friends I tried to be – and believe I was – gracious, accepting, ready to think ‘out of the box’, etc. But try as I may, the uneasiness in my spirit just wouldn’t leave.”

It seems it was more important for Rev. Sheets to “think out of the Box” than to warn gullible sheep who were flocking to the “revival.” Now that the cat is out of the bag, he owns up to the fact that “mistakes were made” (which is the understatement of the year) and says there is plenty of blame to go around in the Charismatic church. Boy, I’ll say.

Sheets confesses:

“Some of my closest friends endorsed and participated in the Lakeland meetings. … Should they have been more discerning and have listened to the warnings they received? Obviously. Should those who ‘aligned’ Todd with spiritual fathers (which was a good thing and positioned him to receive help if he chooses to accept it) have realized to do so publicly was a mistake and could be interpreted by those watching in no other way than as a complete endorsement? Yes, they should have, especially when the event became a commissioning ceremony, complete with decrees and prophecies of going to higher levels, predictions of Todd’s increasing worldwide influence and leading a world-wide revival, emphatic and prolific endorsements of his character, etc. How could those watching believe the evening was anything but an aligning, endorsing and commissioning ceremony? It was. It really doesn’t matter who laid their hands on Todd – all share responsibility. This was unwise at best, naïve at least and at its worst, foolish.”

Please.  The commissioning ceremony was anything but “naïve.” To me it looks as if their motives were self-serving, that the “apostles” wanted to be in the limelight and what better way than to appear on God TV and YouTube.  Don’t tell me they weren’t thrilled that millions of people were watching them anoint Todd Bentley as he lay quivering like a bowl of Jell-O at their feet.

“The shot heard round the world” is a well-known phrase that represents the start of the American Revolution.  The voices of the false prophets who pretended to speak for God have been heard round the world, thanks to the ubiquitous video camera. It may not start a revolution.  But a battle is brewing among Charismatics and Pentecostals.

I’ve gotten off point.

Going back to Dutch, he complains that the leaders involved realized there was a problem:

“Those of us connected to them relationally, ministerially, and as movements – some even in alignment with them apostolically and as sons and daughters – would feel minimalized, if not betrayed, by the fact that they were in essence taking us onto the stage with them? Yes. These feelings were inevitable, especially when we had such uneasiness and asked them not to.”

Harsh words.  But he was their equal – and they ignored his warning.

“Should there be an acknowledgment of these mistakes to the body of Christ for the sake of accountability and in order to rebuild trust? I believe so, and remain hopeful this will happen.”

If these men and women are truly God’s people, it will happen. (They should also acknowledge that the Apostolic movement disregards the fundamental tenets of the Christian faith. In other words, it is outside the parameters of orthodoxy.)

As I mentioned earlier, Bill Johnson is one of the “apostles” who participated in the commissioning ceremony, hence he contributed to the Lakeland disaster.  Bill pastors Bethel Church and is the founder of the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in Redding, California. Both his statement and sermon on Todd Bentley have been posted on his website. Here’s his reason for going to Lakeland: (All Bill Johnson’s quotes are from his statement [4])

“I went to Lakeland because of his enemies. The relentless criticism and opposition, coupled with the grueling and sometimes unwise schedule, were bound to take their toll on this young man—emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. It happened two years ago, and it could happen again. It was my intention to bring a deflection into the mix so that he wouldn’t take all the heat by himself. Little did I realize it was too late. He was at the place of burnout again, abandoning his marriage and pulling out of all public ministry.”

Poor Todd. His grueling schedule took a toll on him. He became so spiritually and emotionally drained that he found solace in the arms of another woman.  It was not the first time this has happened, by the way, which is what Bill meant by “it happened two years ago.” Nonetheless, he stood by Todd, even counseled the Bentleys through all the turmoil.  Which begs the question: Why didn’t he pass what he knew about Todd’s private life on the other “apostles” and “prophets”?  In John Arnott’s statement he says he wishes he had known Todd was struggling in his marriage but he wasn’t told.   Peter Wagner wasn’t told either.  Yet Bill indicates they all knew about Todd’s issues: (My remarks in brackets.)

“And it was thought to all of us involved that the healing had taken place when in fact there were areas [of sin] that just weren’t dealt with. He just drug it into this great outpouring [that turned out to be not so great because they ignored his sin].”

I asked this question of Fresh Fire Ministries in my recent article, Todd Bentley Separates From Wife and Lakeland: “What did they know and when did they know it?” Now I’ll ask the same question of the “apostles” who commissioned Bentley: What did they know and when did they know it?

Johnson calls those who exposed Todd Bentley as a false prophet “sharks.” He also says:

“I’ll never blame the opponents [sharks] of this outpouring for Todd’s choices [sin]. However, it had a greater effect on the outcome than any of his critics will likely own up to in this lifetime. History proves this.”

So Bentley’s opponents drove him into an “unhealthy relationship” with a woman on his staff?  But how can that be when so-called sharks weren’t swimming around Todd Bentley two years ago? He wasn’t that popular until April 2008 when he showed up in Lakeland.  (Watch Johnson’s sermon video here [5] Note: His “shark” remark is 7 minutes into his speech.)

“Apostle” Bill Johnson was one of the leaders who “prophesied” over Todd Bentley during the commissioning.  Here’s what he said:

“When David wanted Uriah killed, he sent him into battle and then withdrew from him. As a company of people, we refuse to do that. Many revivals through history have been cut short of their intention, God’s destiny and intention over individuals, because of jealousies and fears that get stirred-up in the people of God, and we refuse to do that. We shape the coarse of history by partnering with you, giving honor where it’s due. You welcome the glory as well as anybody I’ve ever seen in my life. I long to learn from you=2 0in that. And I bless you and I pray with the rest of these, that the measure of glory would increase; that Moses would no longer be considered the high-water mark, with the glory shown from his face, but instead the revelation of the goodness of God would change the face of the church, and He would use your voice; He would use your grace, your anointing to alter the face of the church before this world; that the goodness of the Lord will be seen once again. I pray this over you in Jesus’ name.” [6]

Jealousies and fears, huh?  I find this disturbing on so many levels.  Where to begin… First of all, Bill knew better than anyone that Todd Bentley had deep character flaws.  Secondly, he was aware of concerns over: doctrinal error… unverifiable stories…  the angel “Emma-O,” the money angel “Winds of Change” and other alleged angelic visitations (nowhere in Scripture does it say that we should elevate angels, nor did the apostles point us to angels, our focus is to be on Jesus Christ alone)… exaggerated healings… unsubstantiated claims that people were raised from the dead…bizarre and dangerous “healing” practices (assaulting the sick with leg drops, high kicks, head punches, etc.)… excessive drinking. Thirdly, Todd had been unfaithful to his wife and there was a rumor going around that he was at it again!  This is the man the “apostles” and “prophets” hoped to “partner with…to shape the course of history?” It’s the sort of insanity that goes on in politics — but not in the Church of Jesus Christ

May the Lord restore Todd Bentley and heal him.

Returning to Dutch Sheets apology:

“With such strong statements of disagreement, what is the affirmation toward my friends who led, participated in or endorsed this ceremony (and the meetings in general)? Simply stated, I know their hearts. It is not a contradiction of my criticisms toward some of their actions to, at the same time, defend and endorse their hearts and character. It is completely appropriate – when true – to defend a person’s heart and integrity while disagreeing with their actions.”

He knows their hearts? The Bible says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jer 17:9)

Furthermore, Sheets’ states that:

“I think the blunder of that night was huge and very damaging to the body of Christ, but I also realize that in their hearts, those involved honestly felt they were doing the right things. Again, while not defending the action taken, I would defend the character and integrity of Peter and Doris Wagner as vigorously as anyone I know, and do so with absolute confidence. There are no two people, and I mean that literally, who embody the qualities of humility, integrity, holiness (no compromise!), sacrifice, unselfish kingdom-thinking, the tireless giving of themselves to Christ’s cause and the body of Christ -and do I need to add risk-taking? – as much as Peter and Doris Wagner. It remains my great honor to be associated with them and call them a spiritual father and mother. And again, while not minimizing or ‘sweeping under the rug’ any wrong decisions, I remain steadfast in my belief that similar affirmations could be made of others involved – either directly or indirectly – in the ceremony. And some of them still see their endorsing of Lakeland as an endorsement of revival generally, not of Todd personally.”

Spiritual Father Peter Wagner brought the commissioning ceremony to the wide screen and used his “apostolic authority” to endorse Todd Bentley, a man he claims he never met. Now Wagner is back peddling:

“I could easily see that Todd needs deep inner healing and professional-level deliverance he has not yet had the opportunity to receive. One of our critics said that we got it backwards and should have taken him into a back room and ministered to him before the ceremony. We had the luxury of a few minutes with Todd before the evening meeting. We had never met the man before. Was I to say  ‘Hey, Todd, you’re a mess and need help in the next five minutes?’”

So instead of taking the “mess” into a back room, he commissioned him as an evangelist?

Here is what Peter Wagner said to Todd Bentley when he stepped onto the stage: (All “prophecies” are from the VodPod video of Todd Bentley’s commissioning [7])

“This commissioning represents a powerful spiritual transaction taking place in the invisible world. With this in mind, I take the apostolic authority that God has given me and I decree to Todd Bentley:

Your power will increase.

Your authority will increase.

Your favor will increase.

Your influence will increase.

Your revelation will increase.

I also decree that:

A new supernatural strength will flow through this ministry.

A new life force will penetrate this move of God.

Government will be established to set things in their proper order.

God will pour out a higher level of discernment to distinguish truth from error.

New relationships will surface to open the gates to the future.” [7]

Wagner admits that he said these words to a man who needs deep inner healing. And by the way, those in the commissioning group hold that “professional-level deliverance” means deliverance from demons!

Here are other “prophecies” uttered by those involved in the commissioning:

John Arnott:

“We bless you today, Todd Bentley. You’re a friend. You’re a man of God. You’re a man of prayer. You’re a man of the spirit. You love the anointing. And I would say that it’s not just the Lakeland revival, but the whole world that goes into revival. And you’re leading an amazing charge. And, multitudes are getting in behind you and saying, ‘Come on. I’m gonna go with you.’ And so we bless all of that. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for raising up this young man, to lead such a mighty charge around the world, and to partner with God TV in all that has happened here in the last, uh, several months now, three months almost. We bless it in the name of Jesus, and we stand with you, and we encourage you, and we honor you.”

We honor you?  Does John Arnott now regret his prophecy over Bentley? Not at all. (Read his statement here  8)

Che Ahn:

“Recognizing that God has chosen you and appointed you to bear much and lasting fruit in this Lakeland revival, and revival around the world. Recognizing that He has called you as an Ephesians 4 evangelist and a revivalist moving in signs and wonders. Knowing that you have walked in a manner worthy of the Lord, pleasing Jesus in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, and growing in the intimacy and knowledge of God, we as your brothers and your friends, who have a deep love for you, Shonnah, your whole family, we just esteem you. We are here to stand with you, support you. And we are here to commission you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–in the power of His name–with special oil from Chuck Pierce. It’s called ‘Revival Oil.’ Chuck could not make it, so he sent this Fed-Ex. Special oil for you. He’s in Africa. And so we anoint you and commission you in Jesus’ name.”

Special “Revival oil”? Oh brother. What Todd needs is truth serum! I watched the “commissioning” on YouTube and got a “check” in my spirit…. because I knew from all the research I’ve done on Todd Bentley that these men and women were out of touch with reality. I tested the spirits by the Word of God, and low and behold, what these so-called apostles and prophets prophesied over Bentley was not from God!  And if what they prophesied does not come to pass, God himself labels them false prophets, and he will judge them!

Dr. Clarice Fluitt:

“Hallelujah! For the word of the Lord would say, Behold the vanguard. Behold the tugboat that is cutting through the ice of religious traditions–the cruel, hard things. The understanding of the mind of men will now bow to the reality of the revelation of the finished work of Calvary. Behold, sayeth God, you have been equipped with cutting power. You have been equipped to go through those traditions of the mind of man. Yea, sayeth God, and you are pulling the church into the realm of glory. Behind you is a great ship that is laden with healing and deliverance and prosperity. This is the word to you, oh man of God- arise, kill, and eat. No longer; no longer; no longer will men call unclean what I have called clean.”

Apparently, when they “prophesy” in King James English they’re hoping to convince those listening to them that they are actually speaking for Almighty God. (Try using this tactic on your kids and you’ll see amazing results.)

What really threw me off in Fluitt’s “prophetic utterance” was her use of the modern term “tugboat” instead of “ship” or “sailing vessel.” That aside, did Todd Bentley pull the church into the realm of glory as the pretend prophetess said he would? Well, not exactly. In fact, he tried to pull the church into the realm of the occult – and he would have succeeded if the “demon of lust” hadn’t gotten him off track.

Joshua Fowler:

“Todd, the Lord has made you to be a detonator. I see cables going around the world to different nations. I see Great Britain being set ablaze by the power of God. I see even as you go into places that God says you’ll go even with the glory even like William Branham, and the Lord says you’ll carry a portal anointing. And whatever city you go over, there will be a portal! ‘There’ll be a portal that will be opened up,’ sayeth the Lord! The Lord says you’ll detonate, and BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! There’ll be a release of glory through the nations, says the Spirit of the Lord!”

Another “prophet” who believes he speaks for God. Yet he cites William Branham, a “Latter Rain” false prophet who denied the doctrine of Trinity.  He held to a variation of a second century heresy taught by Sabellius know as Modalistic Monarchianism or Patripassianism.  And yet Fowler–and Bentley—idolize the man.  (Bentley acknowledged Branham as the greatest healing evangelist who ever lived! Read about Branham here [9]) The false prophet proclaimed himself an angel of Revelation 3:14 and 10:7. He prophesied:

“…by1977 all denominations would be consumed by the World Council of Churches under the control of the Roman Catholics, that the Rapture would take place, and that the world would be destroyed. He died in 1965, but many of his followers expected him to be resurrected, some believing him to be God, others believing him to be virgin-born.

Branham’s influence has continued in many churches where his prophecies are considered to be divinely inspired. His teaching on the power of the spoken word has been a characteristic of later revivalists.” [10]

Instead of Fowler’s promised “release of glory,” God released (BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!) many of the people who were under the spell of the false teachers.

Isaiah 44:24, 25: “Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish.”

Listen to what Gregory Koukl gleaned from 2 Timothy:

“In Paul’s final warning to the church, he does not counsel them to face the challenges of the future by embracing new movements of the Spirit. Instead, he tells them to look backwards, to continue in and guard what has already been revealed.

“This is Paul’s message throughout his entire letter.  ‘Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me’ (1:13). ‘Guard…the treasure which has been entrusted to you’ (1:14).  ‘And the things which you have heard from me…these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also’ (2:2).

“Paul warns of a time of moral chaos falling on the world and theological chaos falling on the church. The antidote for both is the same: Steady at the helm.  Guard what has already been entrusted to you. Continue in the things which you have already learned.

“Everything we need to be fruitful and productive, to be trained in righteousness, to be adequately equipped for every good work, has already been revealed. For Paul, all the old stuff was all the right stuff.

“New movement of the Spirit?  Maybe.  And maybe not. I don’t have to decide. Instead, I’m taking the safe route by heeding Paul’s advice and focusing on the old movement of the Spirit. And so should you.” [11]

Some good has come out of the “Lakeland Outpouring.” It brought to light the highly unorthodox beliefs of the NAR. Those who are a part of this movement should commit 2 Timothy to memory.  Another good thing that came out of it is that the Charismatic church leaders who participated in Todd Bentley’s coronation ceremony have been exposed as false prophets and fools.

The chickens have come home to roost.

Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart. — Jer 14:14

Stop Chasing Platforms: Why Real Christian Service Isn’t About Ministries, Money, or Fame (Podcast) | Cold Case Christianity

This episode challenges the modern obsession with platforms and “ministry success” and asks whether followers of Jesus have quietly replaced real service with a pursuit of visibility, funding, and fame. Drawing from years of case work, tentmaking ministry, and mentoring aspiring apologists, J. Warner Wallace contrasts the quiet, often unseen work of everyday Christian service with the drive to build brands, launch organizations, and chase numbers in the name of the gospel.

You’ll hear why Scripture calls believers to serve without needing applause, income, or a 501(c)(3), and how simple daily acts—loving your local church, discipling a few people, posting faithful content, caring for the hurting—can have more eternal impact than any “big” platform. The conversation also addresses the real dangers of pride, comparison, and monetization, and offers a practical vision for using gifts, tools, and even book sales as fuel for generosity and ministry rather than as measures of personal worth.

February 11 Afternoon Verse of the Day

Again God recognises that Moses has voiced a genuine difficulty. God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM” (3:14). Quite what this answer implies is one of the most controversial questions in the study of the Old Testament. Indeed, some have found here a formula for inscrutability, as if God were saying that it was improper to question more closely who precisely he was. He was just what he was. Certainly the expression “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion” (33:19) with its similarly repeated verbs serves to emphasise that the matter was one within divine jurisdiction and no further explanation of the sovereign’s actions would be forthcoming. But here we have a conversation, and this response is being presented as a genuine answer. There is no hint in the text that the answer implied a rebuke for Moses because he had ventured too far.
One of the earliest explanations is that adopted by the translators of the Old Testament into Greek in the third century B.C. They rendered the expression as ‘I am the One who is’, the one whose very being is existence itself. In this way the LORD was distinguished from the objects of pagan worship, because he alone really is. While this explanation is true, it does not fit well into the context where it is not the claims of rival gods that are being discussed. Similarly attempts to render the expression as ‘I cause to exist whatever I cause to exist’, pointing to God as Creator, are difficult to justify in terms of the context—quite apart from the question of whether or not it is a possible translation of the Hebrew.
The most appropriate explanation seems to be that what is said here builds on the earlier assertion, ‘I will be with you’. The verb form ‘I am’ is the same as ‘I will be’ in verse 12 (note the alternative translation of verse 14, “I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE”, in the NIV footnote). It is not merely the existence of God that is to encourage Moses, but the fact of his active and committed presence to help his people. That is his character, and it is on that basis that they may have confidence for the present and the future. It is this response that is encapsulated in the covenant name, the LORD (see on verse 15 and 6:3). Malachi brought out the constancy of this divine commitment to the covenant relationship when he wrote, “I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendents of Jacob, are not destroyed” (Mal. 3:6).
This divine name is not, however, a matter of secret knowledge and encouragement just for Moses. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ The committed covenant God, who has ultimate authority over all, has commissioned Moses, and on that basis he should be accepted by the people.

Mackay, J. L. (2001). Exodus (pp. 76–77). Mentor.

Ver. 14. I AM hath sent me unto you.—Immutable authority:—
I. Moses on entering upon a great mission naturally inquires the CONDITIONS upon which he proceeds.
II. In the REVELATION made to Moses, “I AM hath sent me unto you,” we have being distinguished from manifestation. “I AM” is the summary of Being.
III. The ANSWER which Moses received from Almighty God was an immutable authority for the greatest of missions. Only let us be sure that we are doing God’s errand, and Pharaoh and Cæsar, and all names of material power, will fall before us, never again to rise. (J. Parker, D.D.)
The great “I AM”:—
I. God is the INCOMPREHENSIBLE One, and yet is revealed in His intercourse with men. The conviction of His unsearchableness lies at the root of all reverence and awe. Before the “I AM that I AM” our spirits lie in deepest adoration, and rise into loftiest aspiration. But we need equally the other side. We need a God revealed in the essential features of His character; and it is in His dealings with men who feared and loved Him that He has made Himself known.
II. God is the INDEPENDENT AND ABSOLUTE. One, and yet He enters into covenant and most definite relationships with men. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
III. God is the ETERNAL One, and yet the God of dying men. Every moment that we have of fellowship with the Eternal God assures us that for us there is no death.
IV. God is the UNCHANGEABLE One, yet the God of men of all different types and temperaments. The same Lord over all. Take these three patriarchs, so closely related in blood—Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. How different they were! Yet God was the God of all three, for they all agreed in being seekers of God. (J. Leckie, D.D.)
The great “I AM”:—
The first thought, perhaps, of all which lies wrapped in these two grand comprehensive words, “I AM,” is mystery. Our best worship is in silence, and our truest wisdom when we confess without confession. “It is too high for me, I cannot attain unto it.” The utmost conception of the most exalted intellect of the most heaven-taught man is only a faint approximation thereto. “I AM.” It still lies in the future of a far-off beatitude—“Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” But where do these glimpses lie of the great I AM; and how can we now know Him at all? I believe, first, in nature. The wonderful organization and marvellous system of nature, in the world I live in. Next I look for it in the Holy Word which He has given to me with the impress of His mind and being. But more in that Spirit which dwells in me and which is the reflection of the nature and a very part of the life and the essence of God. Thirdly, and better still in Him, His own dear Son, “the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person,” and who claims to Himself that very name (John 8:58). No created thing could ever say with truth, “I am.” God alone has no other origin but Himself. He depends upon nothing; His life is essential life; all life, from all eternity past to all eternity yet to come. He is “I AM.” Therefore because He is the I AM, all is present time with God. It is the present tense ever. The consequences are tremendous. All our past sins, all our past mercies, all our past promises and vows, all our past life, and all the life that is yet to come, it is all the present moment with God, in all its freshness and clearness and distinctness at this moment—“I AM.” Hence the absolute and perfect unchangeableness! Or take another instance in that great name “I AM.” All life, which is life indeed, must emanate from Him. He is the life. And there is another view which we may take of these two grand words, “I AM.” God does not say what He is. He leaves that to us. We must fill in the blank. “I am whatever you make Me. If you disbelieve Me, if you think little of Me, I am a just God, a holy God, a jealous God, an avenging God, a strict God, a punishing God; I shall by no means spare the guilty, I am a consuming fire. If you are a penitent sinner, if you have left Me and are coming back to Me, if you are sorry for what you have done, if you have grieved Me, and now wish to please Me, I am a forgiving God, full of mercy and compassion, of great pity, passing by transgression and sin more than any one asketh. I am love. If you are really My child, poor, weak, unworthy, sinful though you are, yet still My child, striving to please Me, earnest to serve Me, desiring more and more to see Me and be with Me, telling Me everything in your little heart, trusting Me, loving Me, I am your own dear loving faithful Father; I am yours and you are Mine to the very end. I have loved you and chosen you from all eternity, and I never change. Though I do sometimes hide Myself, yet behind the cloud I am, I AM, I AM. I am thine, and thou art Mine, for ever and ever!” (J. Vaughan, M.A.)
The Divine name:—
I. AS ONLY REVEALED BY THE DIVINE BEING HIMSELF.
II. AS ONLY PARTIALLY UNDERSTOOD BY THE GRANDEST INTELLECTS.
III. AS SUFFICIENTLY COMPREHENDED FOR THE PRACTICAL SERVICE OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. We know enough of God to give strength, responsibility, hope, to our Christian work and life. (J. S. Exell, M.A.)
The name of the Lord:—
The answer is twofold. It repeats the idea that He is the God of their father; but it connects that with the idea that He is Jehovah.
I. THE ETERNAL NAME. “God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM. Say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” The word is that from which Jehovah comes. It expresses the idea of existence. In announcing Himself by this name the Divine Being excludes all notion of any commencement or termination of His existence, or that He is indebted for it to any other. It is self-existence, necessary existence; His non-existence is an impossibility and cannot be entertained. Jesus Christ “the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever.” “The Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last.” “He who was, and is, and is to come.” Perhaps the most helpful conception we have of permanence is given by the spectacle of the lofty mountains which stand unmoved and unchanged for centuries and millenniums. We call them the everlasting hills. But He was before the mountains, and will continue His undying existence when they have disappeared in the final dissolution.
II. THE ABIDING RELATIONSHIP. “The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” The two names are closely connected, because He could not be the one God of successive generations if He were not Jehovah—the Everlasting.

  1. You will mark that He is not only Jehovah, God in Himself, as He cannot but be; He is the God of the persons here mentioned. Think what a great thing it is that He should be the God of any one! Think what a blessedness and a glory it is to have His almightiness on your side; His love your resting-place; His throne your refuge in distress; His unchanging faithfulness your abiding confidence.
  2. Next, observe that He was the God of each of the persons named. God knows how to be the God of all His people however they differ from each other in those subtle shades of character which, like the features of the face, distinguish one man from another.
  3. Then observe, further, He was the God of their successive generations. This thought is valuable in connection with the idea that God still has a people. The spiritual seed of Abraham. Also that the children of godly parents should value the blessing of having their father’s God. Fear to forfeit it.
  4. Nor must we overlook the important use the Great Teacher made of the statement in our text. Argument for resurrection and immortality in Matt. 22:24–32.
III. THE PERMANENT NAME. God’s eternity contrasts with our brief life: warrants our confidence in Him: suggests the blessedness of those who are interested in Him. (John Rawlinson.)
    God’s name of Himself:—
    I. PERSONALITY—“I.”
  5. We attach three ideas to personality.
    (1) Essential distinctness.
    (2) Individual consciousness.
    (3) Spontaneity.
  6. God’s personality—
    (1) Explains the unity of the universe.
    (2) Meets the aspirations of human nature.
    II. SELF-EXISTENCE—“I AM.”
  7. The independent amidst dependent beings.
  8. The Unchangeable amidst a changing universe.
III. Unsearchableness—“I AM that I AM.”
  9. Mystery is essential to Deity.
  10. Mystery is a want of human nature. Stirs intellect, wakes wonder, inspires reverent awe of souls. (Homilist.)
    “I AM”:—
    I. THE HIGHEST INQUIRY OF MAN AS A MORAL AGENT.
  11. This inquiry is most reasonable.
  12. This inquiry is most urgent.
II. THE HIGHEST REVELATION TO MAN AS A MORAL STUDENT. “I AM—“what? The Fountain of all life, the Foundation of all virtue, the Source of all blessedness, the Cause, the Means, and the End of all things in the universe but sin.
  13. This is the revelation that man as a thinker craves for.
  14. This is the revelation which the gospel gives.
III. THE HIGHEST AUTHORITY OF MAN AS A MORAL WORKER. Lessons:
  15. God is. The grandest fact in the universe.
  16. God is an absolute personality.
  17. God deals with individual men. “Hath sent me.”
  18. God makes man His messenger to men. (Ibid.)
    The minister sent by God:—
    I. THE DIVINE EXISTENCE. “I AM.” He who is, and who will be what He is.
II. THE MINISTRY A DIVINE INSTITUTION. “I AM hath sent me unto you.” This creates the relation of pastor and people.
III. MUTUAL DUTIES OF PASTOR AND PEOPLE.
  19. The duty of the pastor.
    (1) He must preach the gospel in its purity and simplicity.
    (2) He must administer the ordinances.
    (3) He must maintain a wholesome discipline in the Church.
  20. The duty of the people.
    (1) Sympathy;
    (2) Love;
    (3) Obedience;
    (4) Co-operation;
    (5) Prayer for their minister. (J. W. Ray.)
    The immutability of God:—
    I. THAT JEHOVAH IS UNCHANGEABLE IS PROVED FROM WHAT WE KNOW OF HIS OTHER ATTRIBUTES. We are assured, for example, that He is infinite in goodness, infinite in knowledge, infinite in power. The simple inquiry before us is, Are these attributes subject to change? Now, change in any being implies increase, or diminution, or entire removal of certain properties. To suppose any attribute of God to cease entirely, is to suppose that He ceases to be God. Change, then, if it occurs at all, must imply either increase or diminution of His perfections. On this principle, it is easy to see that the least change in the degree of His power, for example, must make Him more than almighty, or less than almighty; the least change in His knowledge must make Him more than omniscient, or less than omniscient; in other words, the least change in a perfect and infinite being is inconceivable.
II. THAT JEHOVAH IS UNCHANGEABLE IS PROVED FROM EXPLICIT AND REPEATED DECLARATIONS OF THE BIBLE. (See Mal. 3:6; Tit. 1:2; James 1:17; Psa. 102:27). The inferences resulting from the truth thus established are so important as to demand the remaining time that can be allotted to this discourse.
  21. All conceptions of God which apply time and succession to His existence, are erroneous, “One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” He is no older than He was from eternity. Age is a relative term: it implies beginning; but God is eternal. It implies change; but God is unchangeable. Time is the measure of created existence; but God is uncreated. Hence, the diversity of views which we have of the same thing at different times, results from the imperfection of our knowledge. Change of opinion implies liability to mistake. Increase of knowledge implies past ignorance; decrease of knowledge implies present ignorance. But neither of these can apply to Him whose “understanding is infinite.”
  22. God has no new purposes. This follows, by unquestionable inference, from His immutability. Whatever was His purpose from eternity is His purpose now: and whatever is His purpose now, was His purpose from eternity. Two things then are certain.
    (1) That God is unchangeable.
    (2) That God has purposes. The inference is perfectly conclusive that these purposes are eternal. This argument cannot be evaded. It has the clearness of demonstration.
  23. The certainty of final salvation to true believers is a reasonable doctrine, grounded on the immutable truth of God, as implied in the promises of the new covenant. These promises of the unchanging God must be fulfilled.
  24. When God is said to repent, it implies no change in His character or purpose.
  25. The immutability of God is no discouragement to prayer, but the best ground of encouragement. If Jehovah were fickle, like earthly monarchs, then, indeed, it would be vain to pray. The answer of prayer implies no change in the mind of God.
  26. The unchangeable perfection of God is a doctrine full of comfort to His people. This world, with all its concerns, bears the stamp of mutability. Amid these scenes of fluctuation, is there no object then in heaven or earth that is unchanging? Yes, one; God is unchanging. Here is stability.
  27. The immutability of God is a doctrine full of terror to His enemies. (E. Potter, D.D.)
    God, the great “I AM”:—
If I say “I am,” I say what is not true of me. I must say “I am something—I am a man, I am bad, or I am good, or I am an Englishman, I am a soldier, I am a sailor, I am a clergyman.”—and then I shall say what is true of me. But God alone can say “I AM” without saying anything more. And why? Because God alone is. Everybody and everything else in the world becomes: but God is. We are all becoming something from our birth to our death—changing continually and becoming something different from what we were a minute before; first of all we were created and made, and so became men; and since that we have been every moment changing, becoming older, becoming wiser, or alas! foolisher; becoming stronger or weaker; becoming better or worse. Even our bodies are changing and becoming different day by day. But God never changes or becomes anything different from what He is now. What He is, that He was, and ever will be. Many heathen men have known that there was one eternal God, and that God is. But they did not know that God Himself had said so; and that made them anxious, puzzled, almost desperate, so that the wiser they were, the unhappier they were. For what use is it merely knowing that God is? The question for poor human creatures is, “But what sort of a being is God?’ Is He far off? Does He care nothing about us? Does He let the world go its own way, right or wrong? Is He proud and careless? A Self-glorifying Deity whose mercy is not over all His works, or even over any of them? And the glory of the Bible, the power of God revealed in the Bible, is, that it answers the question, and says, “God does care for men, God does see men, God is not far off from any one of us. Ay, God speaks to men—God spoke to Moses and said, not “God is,” but “I AM.” God in sundry times and divers manners spoke to our fathers by the prophets and said, “I AM.” But more—Moses said, “I AM hath sent me.” God does not merely love us, and yet leave us to ourselves. He sends after us. He sends to us. But again: “I AM hath sent me unto you.” Unto whom? Who was Moses sent to? To the Children of Israel in Egypt. And what sort of people were they? Were they wise and learned? On the contrary, they were stupid, ignorant, and brutish. Were they pious and godly? On the contrary, they were worshipping the foolish idols of the Egyptians—so fond of idolatry that they must needs make a golden calf and worship it. Then why did God take such trouble for them? Why did God care for them, and help them, and work wonders for them? Why? Exactly because they were so bad. Just because they were so bad, His goodness yearned over them all the more, and longed to make them good. Just because they were so unclean and brutish, His holiness longed all the more to cleanse them. Because they were so stupid and ignorant, His wisdom longed to make them wise. Because they were so miserable, His pity yearned over them, as a father over a child fallen into danger. Because they were sick, they had all the more need of a physician. Because they were lost, there was all the more reason for seeking and saving them. Because they were utterly weak, God desired all the more to put His strength into them, that His strength might be made perfect in weakness. (C. Kingsley, M.A.)
    God’s memorial name:—
    I. In this memorial name of God WE ARE TAUGHT HIS LOFTY EXISTENCE. “I AM that I AM “is a name synonymous in meaning with Jehovah. This name includes within its vast extent of signification all past, present and future existence and duration.
  28. Self-existence is a Divine attribute.
  29. Eternity necessarily follows from His self-existence.
  30. His proprietorship springs from the fact of His existence.
II. THE REVELATION OF THIS MEMORIAL NAME TO MOSES HAD PURPOSE, It was a crisis in the history of Moses, and also of that of Israel in Egypt.
  31. One purpose it served was to strengthen Moses in executing his work.
  32. Another purpose was to check idolatrous practices.
  33. It taught Moses the safety of the people.
  34. The revelation of this name in connection with the people’s ancestry shows that they were the heirs of immortality.
  35. The revelation of this name indicated victory. (J. H. Hill.)
The greatness and glory of God:—
The creature is nothing in comparison with God; all the glory, perfection, and excellency of the whole world do not amount to the value of a unit in regard of God’s attributes; join ever so many of them together, they cannot make one in number; they are nothing in His regard, and less than nothing. All created beings must utterly vanish out of sight when we think of God. As the sun does not annihilate the stars, and make them nothing, yet it annihilates their appearances to our sight; some are of the first magnitude, some of the second, some of the third, but in the daytime all are alike, all are darkened by the sun’s glory: so it is here, there are degrees of perfection and excellency, if we compare one creature with another, but let once the glorious brightness of God shine upon the soul, and in that light all their differences are unobserved. Angels, men, worms, they are all nothing, less than nothing, to be set up against God. This magnificent title “I AM,” darkens all, as if nothing elsewhere. (T. Manton, D.D.)

EXECUTIVE NEWS SUMMARY

The Editors

  • Canadian “gunperson” kills nine: A tragic school attack in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, has claimed nine lives and injured more than two dozen. At midday Tuesday, Canadian police received a report of an ongoing attack. Six people were killed at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, and another died in transit to the hospital. Two more were found dead in a nearby home — apparently the assailant’s family. As Leftmedia and Canadian officials would have it, that’s all there is to this tragic tale. However, when officials use terms like “gunperson,” it raises questions. Indeed, the alert described a “female in a dress with brown hair.” So, why the neutral pronouns? Well, journalist Andy Ngo appears to have the answer: This attacker wasn’t a female, but rather a trans-identifying male, as confirmed by his uncle. If Ngo’s reporting is true, we can expect Canadian media to sweep this attack under the rug as quickly as possible.
  • Solid jobs numbers: The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its January jobs report, which was delayed by a week due to the recent short-lived government shutdown. The report found that 130,000 jobs were added last month, coming in well above the Dow Jones estimate of 55,000. This also represents a significant uptick from December’s number, which was adjusted slightly downward to 48,000. The headline unemployment rate also came in slightly below predictions, hitting 4.3% rather than the estimated 4.4%. Meanwhile, hourly wages rose 0.4% for the month, 0.1% above expectations, but still met the 3.7% annual expectation. Labor force participation also increased slightly to 62.5%.
  • No indictment for “Seditious Six”: The six members of Congress, including Sen. Mark Kelly, who issued a video urging U.S. service members to refuse illegal orders were not indicted by a grand jury. This is not the first time the second Trump administration has seen its prosecutions stymied by a grand jury — perhaps they’d be better off with the proverbial ham sandwich. The Justice Department’s failure to proceed with this case should probably be a wake-up call. Democrats are really good at using and abusing the law, walking right up to the line of sedition, as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz did in January, without technically crossing it. Tenuous charges that get struck down make this administration look weak and like it is twisting the law to go after political enemies.
  • Three House Republicans side with Dems to force tariff vote: Republican Reps. Thomas Massie, Kevin Kiley, and Don Bacon sided with Democrats on Tuesday, preventing the majority GOP from renewing a moratorium that withholds a vote on Donald Trump’s use of the International Economic Emergency Powers Act until after the U.S. Supreme Court issues its ruling. Trump has used the Act to impose sweeping tariffs, which many lawmakers, particularly Democrats, have criticized. Speaker Mike Johnson contended, “I think the sentiment is that we allow a bit more runway for this to be worked out between the executive branch and the judicial branch,” noting that “the president’s trade policies have been a great benefit to the country.” However, Bacon argued that continuing to extend the moratorium was “putting the important work of the House on pause, but Congress needs to be able to debate on tariffs.”
  • Addressing Iran’s ballistic missile program: The U.S. and the Iranian regime have been engaged in talks over Iran’s nuclear program. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to Washington, DC, yesterday to discuss a number of issues primarily dealing with Gaza. He weighed in on the negotiations, expressing his desire for peace in the region, which, importantly, from Israel’s perspective, includes not only preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons but also ending its ballistic missile threat. Israel has been the most frequent target of Iran’s ballistic missiles. Meanwhile, Tehran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran’s missile program was “never negotiable.” In the midst of these negotiations is the mullahs’ tenuous hold on power, with rumblings of the rising of a second wave of nationwide protests against the Islamic ruling regime, the first of which Tehran brutally put down.
  • Insane Democrat questioning: The House of Representatives doesn’t command the same respect as the Senate, and on Tuesday, Rep. LaMonica McIver reminded the world why. The House Committee on Homeland Security called in Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons to testify on the ongoing deportation efforts, and he obliged voluntarily. Of course, any committee will have both hostile and friendly members, as any witness expects. What Lyons likely didn’t expect was to be asked, “Do you think you’re going to hell?” Rep. McIver also asked Lyons, “How do you think judgment day will work for you with so much blood on your hands?” Eventually, Chairman Andrew Garbarino overrode McIver and reminded her that she is expected to adhere to standards of decorum. McIver used her remaining time to explain why ICE should be entirely abolished.
  • Colony Ridge settlement: The Left has explained again and again that colonialism is evil — except apparently in cases where it’s a foreign colony on American soil. That is essentially what the Colony Ridge neighborhood north of Houston, Texas, was designed to be. The neighborhood was exposed in 2023 for its marketing scheme aimed at non-English-speaking illegal immigrants. The scheme was successful and became the fastest-growing development in the country, reaching more than 100,000 people. The Biden administration sued the development for targeting “Hispanic consumers with predatory loans.” Now, the Trump administration has reached a settlement. Colony Ridge will pay $68 million in penalties, which will be used to add necessary infrastructure and a law enforcement center inside the community. Future purchasers will be required to present a valid Texas ID or a visa issued after January 1, 2025.
  • Zuckerberg eyes Florida: Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has become the latest billionaire to join the list of wealthy moguls fleeing California over its proposed 5% wealth tax. This list includes Larry Ellison, Peter Thiel, and David Sacks. Zuckerberg and his wife are moving to Miami, Florida, to an exclusive enclave known as the “Billionaire Bunker.” Florida has become one of the most attractive destinations for the uber-wealthy precisely because they can keep more of their hard-earned wealth under the Sunshine State’s kinder tax laws. Florida is now reaping the benefits of local job growth and increased revenue as these industry leaders relocate to the state. Meanwhile, California lawmakers will find it even harder to meet their government’s overspending appetite with fewer tax dollars coming in. The Golden State’s Democrat legislature is effectively killing the golden goose.
  • Sexual assault by gender-bender in Washington: In another tragic example of why men should not compete in women’s sports, Kallie Keeler, a 16-year-old wrestler from the Puyallup School District in Washington State, was allegedly sexually assaulted in a wrestling match against a “trans-identifying” male. In a wrestling move, Kallie said her male opponent forcefully pushed his fingers into her genitals. She didn’t know what to do in the situation, and she didn’t even find out until afterwards that she was competing against a male, which left her feeling doubly violated. Wrestling experts reviewed the video of the match and ruled out accidental contact for that particular wrestling move. Kallie had immediately reported the incident to the school, but the school did nothing for two months — until media contact — despite being required by law to report suspected sexual assault to law enforcement within 48 hours.

FEATURED ANALYSIS

The New York Times Has a Pot Epiphany

Nate Jackson

Well, that was a dopey thing to do.

So says The New York Times editorial board about legalizing marijuana without proper guardrails. It’s hard to believe the Times published an editorial that makes sense, but here we are. And the title is clear: “It’s Time for America to Admit That It Has a Marijuana Problem.”

The Times doesn’t entirely recant its advocacy for legalizing weed, but the backtrack is significant. “This editorial board has long supported marijuana legalization,” the editors write. “In 2014, we published a six-part series that compared the federal marijuana ban to alcohol prohibition and argued for repeal. Much of what we wrote then holds up — but not all of it does.”

They acknowledge that they and others made promises of few downsides, and minor ones at that, because marijuana is a supposedly “harmless drug that might even bring net health benefits.” However, they concede, “It is now clear that many of these predictions were wrong.”

The Times lists a number of bad side effects from the drug or its legalization. For example, 18 million Americans use it almost daily, three times as many as in 2012, and about three million more than use alcohol daily. The Times says nearly three million Americans “suffer from cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, which causes severe vomiting and stomach pain.”

Widespread use leads to far more hospital visits for illnesses and injuries from car accidents. For example, one survey indicated that nearly 12 million Americans had driven while high in 2024.

Addiction is also a more real problem than the Times and other advocates initially promised. Yale Medicine researchers found that “30% of current users meet the criteria for addiction.” Another survey indicated that 20 million Americans say they’re always high.

That can lead to a number of other societal problems.

On the flip side, many companies advertise health benefits that simply aren’t true, but there’s little to no regulation of misleading information. The Times says that should change, and that “the government should crack down on these outlandish claims.”

While users are seeing green, companies are raking in the green. The Times notes, “The legal pot industry grew to more than $30 billion in U.S. sales in 2024, close to the total annual revenue of Starbucks.” Estimates are that it will reach $47 billion this year. More revenue means more lobbying, which is probably one reason why President Donald Trump unwisely signed an order opening the door to reclassifying weed in December — a move that would primarily benefit sellers with tax advantages they did not previously have.

Speaking of taxes, that’s one remedy the Times editorial board recommends:

The federal government taxes alcohol and tobacco, for example, but not marijuana. And increases in tobacco taxes have been a major reason that its use has declined during the 21st century, with profound health benefits.

The first step in a strategy to reduce marijuana abuse should be a federal tax on pot. States should also raise taxes on pot; today, state taxes can be as low as a few additional cents on a joint. Taxes should be high enough to deter excessive use, on the scale of dollars per joint, not cents.

On the other hand, that just makes the federal government as dependent on pot revenue as states are already becoming.

Another problem needing regulation, the Times editors say, is potency: “Today’s cannabis is far more potent than the pot that preceded legalization. In 1995, the marijuana seized by the Drug Enforcement Administration was around 4 percent THC, the primary psychoactive compound in pot. Today, you can buy marijuana products with THC levels of 90 percent or more. As the cliché goes, this is not your parents’ weed.”

THC causes the “high” when smoking. It’s nasty stuff, and it’s arguably the main driver of addiction and illness.

Their conclusion is … eminently reasonable: “The unfortunate truth is that the loosening of marijuana policies — especially the decision to legalize pot without adequately regulating it — has led to worse outcomes than many Americans expected. It is time to acknowledge reality and change course.”

Yet their solutions are hardly satisfying, and many problems go unaddressed by the editors.

Smoking tobacco products is widely prohibited in public spaces, in large part due to the negative health effects of secondhand smoke. The Times never mentions the same thing about marijuana (and THC), or that our city streets increasingly reek of the skunk-like odor of pot.

The words “mental health” never appear in the Times editorial, yet we’ve written about various psychotic and mood disorders, including the correlation between smoking pot and schizophrenia. Cannabis use disorder has been linked to as many as 30% of schizophrenia cases in young men — who happen to use weed more widely than other demographic groups.

Many of those effects eventually lead to other problems, such as job loss, family troubles, and homelessness (read: vagrancy). Again, none of that is mentioned by the Times.

In short, the mea culpa is a welcome one, but it’s too little, too late. The states, the federal government, and American society at large opened Pandora’s box, and closing it again will prove extremely difficult, if not impossible.

Electricity Demand Is Surging, The Grid Isn’t Ready: IEA | ZeroHedge

By Tsvetana Paraskova of OilPrice.com

  • International Energy Agency says global electricity demand is growing at its fastest pace in 15 years, set to rise more than 3.5% annually through 2030.
  • While renewables, nuclear, and natural gas are expanding rapidly, grid infrastructure is becoming the key bottleneck, with over 2,500 GW of power and load projects stuck in connection queues worldwide.
  • Grid investment must rise about 50% above current levels to keep pace, with BloombergNEF and Goldman Sachs warning that persistent grid constraints could trigger power shortages and even undermine the U.S. position in the global AI race

Global electricity demand is rising at the fastest pace in 15 years and will continue to do so at least until the end of the decade as AI infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and electrification have ushered in The Age of Electricity,  (IEA) says.

Global power demand is expected to grow by more than 3.5% per year on average through the end of the decade, the agency said in its new Electricity 2026 report.

Renewables, nuclear, and natural gas are the big winners of the electricity demand boom, but the rise in all these power-generating sources would not mean anything if they struggle to connect to the grid.

Power Demand Surge

Global electricity demand increased by 3% annually in 2025, following growth of 4.4% in 2024, the IEA said in the report.

Between 2026 and 2030, the annual average growth rate would be 3.6%, driven by higher consumption from industry, electric vehicles (EVs), air conditioning, and data centers, according to the agency.

While emerging economies, including China, India, and the Southeast Asian region, will drive 80% of the additional power demand by 2030, advanced economies see growth in electricity demand after 15 years of stagnation, the IEA said. Artificial intelligence, data centers, and advanced manufacturing support the return to growth in power demand in advanced economies.

U.S. electricity demand rose by 2.1% in 2025 and is expected to grow by nearly 2% annually through 2030. The rapid expansion of data centers will drive half of the increase, the agency noted.

EU demand is forecast to increase by around 2% per year through 2030, and many other advanced economies – such as Australia, Canada, Japan, and South Korea – are also expected to see faster electricity demand growth through 2030.

Grid Investment Lagging Behind Power Generation Boom

As demand grows, developers of new capacity, especially renewables and natural gas, face constraints in connecting to . Regional and country-specific trends are not the same, but the need for rapid and efficient expansion of grids is a pressing global issue. Without increased system flexibility and rapid grid expansion, the Age of Electricity could roll out slower than expected.

Today, global investments in grids are about $400 billion per year. If the world is to meet the expected growth in power demand through 2030, it would need to boost annual grid investment by about 50% from $400 billion, according to the IEA.

The Age of Electricity will also need “a significant scaling up of grid-related supply chains,” the IEA said.

Currently, more than 2,500 gigawatts (GW) worth of projects – renewables, storage, and projects with large loads such as data centers – are stalled in connection queues worldwide.

A total of 1,600 GW of queued projects could be integrated in the near term through grid-enhancing technologies and regulatory reforms that enable more flexible grid connections and usage, the agency reckons.

But increased flexibility and grid expansion need more investment than the current spending.

Last year, grid investment was on track to top $470 billion for the first time, up by 16% from 2024, a December analysis from BloombergNEF found.

The U.S. accounted for a quarter of global grid spending with the highest investment level in 2025, at $115 billion. China and the EU/UK followed as other major contributors, each with around 20% of the global sum, according to the report.

However, rising equipment costs compounded by high inflation have started to affect overall spending figures, BNEF said, adding that increased spending “will not fully eliminate ongoing grid-infrastructure bottlenecks, meaning delays to new generation and demand connections are likely to continue in the coming years.”

“We’ve seen that even with increased investment, there are significant barriers to meeting the needs of new generation and power demand on time,” Peter Wall, Head of Grids Research at BloombergNEF, said.

“With data centers and industrial electrification driving sharp increases in power demand, investors need to factor in how essential timely grid expansion is for not only connecting new demand but also connecting all of the generation we will need to ensure a secure and reliable supply to this demand after over a decade of stagnation.”

Additional grid investment is hampered by supply chain and labor constraints, BloombergNEF notes.

In the U.S. specifically, the aging grid infrastructure in key regional U.S. markets cannot cope with all requests, with grid investments lagging behind soaring power demand.

At the current rate of interconnection requests and grid capacity, the U.S. could face a power crunch by 2030, Samantha Dart, Goldman Sachs’ co-head of global commodities research, said at a conference last month.

“We aren’t adding enough capacity,” Dart said in January at the Goldman Sachs Energy, CleanTech and Utilities Conference in Miami.

Nearly all power grids in the U.S. may lack critical spare capacity by the end of the decade. If the issue with grid constraints remains unaddressed, China could pull ahead of the U.S. in the AI race, Dart noted.

Energy, Security, and Markets: Trump Achievements the Media Won’t Report | The Gateway Pundit

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told the press earlier this week about a series of President Trump’s policy achievements and improvements for the American people that the mainstream media have failed to cover, including U.S. energy dominance, the Dow breaking 50,000 for the first time, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons opposing gender mutilation surgeries for children.

Aa federal appeals court upheld the administration’s policy of detaining illegal aliens, the murder rate fell to a 125-year low, national median rents declined to a four-year low, mortgage affordability rose to a four-year high, and there have been nine straight months of zero illegal alien releases at the southern border.

The U.S. has achieved a level of energy dominance never seen before. In 2025, U.S. oil and gas production hit all-time records, with total output reaching 24.2 million barrels per day, more than Saudi Arabia and Russia combined. Crude oil production alone peaked at 13.6 million barrels per day, the highest level ever recorded by any country. Crude exports reached record highs, and when petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel are included, total energy exports averaged nearly 11 million barrels per day in 2025.

The United States is now a net exporter of oil and fuel, sending more energy abroad than it imports. In 2024, the U.S. exported approximately 2.3 million barrels per day more than it imported. The Energy Information Administration forecasts that this surplus will grow to 2.8 million barrels per day in 2026, widening the export gap and reinforcing America’s position as the world’s leading oil producer.

The Dow Jones shattered 50,000 on Friday, February 6, 2026, crossing the mark for the first time in history. The milestone came approximately 18 months after the index first topped 40,000 in May 2024. Analysts attributed the surge to a broadening bull market, resilient consumer spending, and growth in the AI and infrastructure sectors. The milestone signals a strong start to 2026 and may boost retirement accounts tied to major stock indexes

On February 3, 2026, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons issued a position statement recommending that gender-related surgeries be delayed until at least age 19, citing “insufficient evidence” that the benefits of chest, genital, and facial surgeries for minors with gender dysphoria outweigh the risks. The statement relied in part on the Cass Review from England and a 2025 report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

ASPS is the first major U.S. medical professional society to break from the “gender-affirming care” model supported by groups such as the AAP and the Endocrine Society. The shift comes as the Trump administration moved in December to cut sex changes for minors, prompting lawsuits from several states, and as hospitals, including Children’s Minnesota, have suspended certain services for minors under federal pressure.

President Trump’s anti-crime stance is paying dividends. The murder rate is at a 125-year low. Data for 2025 show a nearly 20 percent decline in homicides nationwide, the largest single-year drop ever recorded. If final 2025 and early 2026 data hold, the homicide rate could reach approximately 4.0 per 100,000 residents, the lowest level since 1900.

Affordability has been one of the buzzwords that has plagued President Trump’s second term. Although inflation has come down considerably, citizens are still wrestling with the cumulative inflation of the four disastrous Biden years. On top of higher prices for groceries, people are struggling to pay sky-high rents and mortgages.

There has finally been measurable relief in housing. In January 2026, the national median rent fell to its lowest level in four years after six consecutive months of declines. At the same time, mortgage affordability reached a four-year high as interest rates stabilized and incomes rose relative to housing costs.

A secure border has been one of President Trump’s largest policy achievements. For nine consecutive months, zero illegal aliens have been released into the country. While there have been attempted illegal crossings, the administration maintains that everyone apprehended is now either detained or immediately removed.

Furthermore, the administration has been given the green light to deal with illegal aliens already in the country. On February 6, 2026, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2–1 that the administration can lawfully detain undocumented immigrants without bond hearings, reversing decades of precedent that allowed those without a criminal record to seek release while awaiting court dates. The court held that the executive branch has authority to interpret “applicants for admission” broadly to include anyone in the country illegally.

Nearly 3 million illegal aliens left the United States during the first year of President Trump’s second term, including an estimated 2.2 million self-deportations and more than 675,000 deportations. Fentanyl trafficking at the southern border was cut by more than half compared to the same period in 2024, the Coast Guard seized nearly 470,000 pounds of cocaine, and DHS reported more than $13.2 billion in taxpayer savings.

As a result of the secure border and strict deportation regimen, illegal immigration is negative for the first time in fifty years, meaning the total number of illegal aliens in the country is declining. Under Biden and Obama, turnarounds at the border were counted as deportations even as the southern border remained open, flooding the country with increasing numbers of illegal aliens.

Super Bowl LX Halftime Show

Bad Bunny

[Verse: Bad Bunny]
I really like the Gabriela’s
The Patricia’s, the Nicole’s, the Sofía’s
My first girlfriend in kindergarten, María
And my first love’s name was Thalia
I’ve got a Colombian who writes me every day
And a Mexican I didn’t even know about
Another one in San Antonio that still loves me
And the ones from PR that are all mine
A Dominican who is a fresh hottie, ayy
Fresh, fresh hottie
The one from Barcelona that came by plane
And says that my dick is fire
I let them play with my heart
I’d like to move in with all of them to a mansion
The day I get married I’ll send them an invitation
Boy, stop that

[Part II: Yo Perreo Sola + Safaera]

[Refrain: Nesi & Bad Bunny]
You used to ignore me (You ignored me)
Now I ignore you (Hmm, nah)
Before, you didn’t want to (Didn’t want to)
Now I don’t want to (Hmm, no)
You used to ignore me (-nored me)
Women all over the world
Now I ignore you
Before, you didn’t want to
Now I don’t want to
Twerking without fear

Ayy, ayy, ayy, move it, move it, move it
I twerk alone (Twerk alone)
Okay, ayy, ayy

My D is being chased and I want you to hide it
Grab it like a bonga
She took a pill that made her horny
She fucks in the Audi, not in the Honda, ayy
If I give it to you, don’t call me
‘Cause this is not to make you love me
If your boyfriend doesn’t—
He better fu—, ayy, ayy

[Bridge: Bad Bunny]
When she twerks she doesn’t stop
She smokes and gets horny, ayy
She’ll call you if she needs you, ayy
But for now she is alone
She twerks—

Good afternoon, California
My name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio

I don’t even wanna do this anymore
‘Cause you already know what you mean to me
And our love’s the only war worth fighting for

Wherever you go, that’s where I’ll follow
Nobody’s promised tomorrow
So I’ma love you every night like it’s the last night
Like it’s the last night

[Chorus: Lady Gaga]
If the world was ending
I’d wanna be next to you
If the party was over
And our time on Earth was through
I’d wanna hold you just for a while
And die with a smile
If the world was ending
I’d wanna be next to you

[Part IX: BAILE INoLVIDABLE]

You taught me how to dance

[Verse: Bad Bunny]
And I’ve had many girlfriends
But none like you
I don’t have my sun anymore, I live on the moon
If I think of you, I’d go for it in an instant

My devil, my angel, my crazy girl, eh-eh

New York!
Okay

If you wanna have fun
With charm and delight
You just have to liver (Where?)
A summer in New York (New York!)
If you wanna have fun (Eh, eh, eh, eh)

You just have to live (San Francisco)
A summer in New York (Enjoy it, ’cause this is just for a bit)

[Verse: Bad Bunny]
Hey, hey, hey, July 4th, 4th of July
I’m hanging out drunk with my cousin, feeling fly
My people in The Bronx know what’s up
Buzzing high over in Washington Heights
Willie Colón, they call me “The Bad One,” hey
‘Cause the years go by and I’m still hitting hard
Selling albums like Frida Kahlo paintings
The coke is white, yeah, yeah, the 2CB’s pink, eh-eh
Don’t get it twisted, no, no, better avoid it, ayy
A shot of rum at Toñita’s house and Puerto Rico feels so close
I have the championship, nobody can take it from me

The best in the world
Number one, the best in the world, ¿okay? Puerto Rico!
Always believe in yourself

[Part XI: LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii]

[Chorus: Ricky Martin]
They want to take my river and my beach too
They want my neighborhood and grandma to leave
No, don’t let go of the flag nor forget the lelolai

No, don’t let go of the flag nor forget the lelolai
‘Cause I don’t want them to do to you

[Intro]
With so much love for y’all

[Chorus: Bad Bunny]
Puerto Rico’s so fucking great, heh, it’s so fucking great

[Verse 1: Bad Bunny]
From Carolina came reggaeton and the sons of bitches from Bayamón
Ayy, ayy, they want to ride the wave and they haven’t gone to Rincón
A little kiss for grandma on the balcony
Catching all the holes, on the Rubicon
P fuckin’ R, ayy, land of Maelo and Tego Calderón
And of Barea who was champion before than LeBron
Hmm, damn, another blackout
Let’s go to the bleachers to light up a blunt
Before Pipo gets a sla—

Puerto Rico’s so fu— great, heh, it’s so fucking great
Puerto Rico’s so fu— great, ayy, ayy, ayy

[Verse 2: Bad Bunny]
Ditch Maldivas, I’m staying in Palomino, ayy
If not then I’m going to DR, greetings to my neighbors, ayy
Here the heat is different, the sun is taíno, ayy
The capital of perreo, now everyone wants to be Latino, no
But they lack rhythm, drums and reggaetón, ayy, ayy
Careful with my friends, we’re a bunch
They lack rhythm, drums and reggaetón, ayy, ayy
Careful with my friends, we’re a bunch
Welcome to the heat

[Part XIII: CAFé CON RON]

[Chorus: Los Pleneros de la Cresta & Bad Bunny]
Coffee in the morning, rum in the afternoon
We’re already out in the streets, come out to your balcony

Coffee in the morning, rum in the afternoon
We’re already out in the streets, come out to your balcony
Coffee in the morning, rum in the afternoon
We’re already out in the streets, come out to your balcony

[Part XIV: DtMF]

[Interlude: Bad Bunny]
God bless America
Doesn’t matter if it’s Chile, Argentina
Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia
Perú, Ecuador, Brasil, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana
Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras
El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico
Cuba, Dominican Republic
Jamaica, Haiti, the Antilles
United States, Canada
And my motherland, my homeland: Puerto Rico
We’re still here
Now!

[Chorus: Bad Bunny]
I should’ve taken more pictures when I had you
I should’ve given you more kisses and hugs whenever I could
I hope my people never move away
Thank you
I should’ve taken more pictures
