As Americans Celebrate, The World Is Plunging Into An Abyss Of War, Famine, Natural Disasters And Pestilence | The Economic Collapse

Sticking our heads in the sand and pretending that everything is okay isn’t going to do anyone any good.  Chaos has been erupting all over the globe, and global events are likely to accelerate even more in 2025.  But as I write this article, most Americans have shifted into “vacation mode” and are focused on celebrating.  Of course many do not have the resources to celebrate like they did in the past.  As I discussed the other day, 35 percent of Americans plan to spend less this holiday season and only 16 percent plan to spend more.  But there is still a whole lot of spending going on.  The average U.S. adult will spend about a thousand dollars on gifts this year, and all of this stuff will bring a certain level of temporary happiness.

Meanwhile, our world is going completely and totally nuts.

In recent weeks, there has been a growing consensus in the mainstream media that World War III is already here.  For example, the following comes from a Forbes article entitled “World War III Has Already Begun – And Businesses Need To Take Note”

The sudden collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s despotic regime in Syria this weekend highlights the interconnectedness of a growing number of global conflicts, revealing a hard truth that most of us would rather not think about too deeply: World War III has already begun.

Business leaders need to recognize this and begin planning accordingly.

At this moment, we are closer to nuclear war with Russia than we have ever been before, the Chinese are closer to invading Taiwan than ever before, North Korea continues to threaten to invade South Korea, and the incoming administration is seriously considering bombing Iran’s nuclear program

Ahead of his January 20 inauguration, President-elect Donald Trump is evaluating the possibility of preemptive strikes on Iran to stop its growing nuclear program, according to a Friday morning Wall Street Journal report.

According to the WSJ, this move would mark a significant change from previously established US policy on diplomacy and sanctions when dealing with Tehran.

The report outlines the Trump team’s evaluation of potential attacks on nuclear sites, indicating that members of the president-elect’s transition team are exploring this option.

2024 has certainly been a year of war.

Unfortunately, I am entirely convinced that World War III will only intensify in 2025.

Dozens of armed conflicts are currently raging all over the planet, and this is just one of the factors that has pushed global food prices up dramatically in recent months.

The poorest of the poor are being hit particularly hard.  Women and children are dropping dead of starvation in Sudan right now, and it is being reported that the famine in that country has now spread to five new areas…

Famine in Sudan has expanded to five areas and will likely spread to another five by May, the global hunger monitor reported Tuesday, while warring parties continue to disrupt humanitarian aid needed to alleviate one of the worst starvation crises in modern times.

Famine conditions were confirmed in Abu Shouk and al-Salam, two camps for internally displaced people in al-Fashir, the besieged capital of North Darfur, as well as in residential and displaced communities in the Nuba Mountains, according to the Famine Review Committee of the Integrated Food Phase Classification (IPC).

Thankfully, people are not dropping dead from starvation here in the United States.

But as I documented last week, demand at food banks all over America is setting brand new record highs.

Nobody can dispute these facts, because they are true.

Let me give you some more facts.  From 1984 to 2003, the U.S. experienced about 5 “billion dollar disasters” a year

There were 97 natural disasters between 1984 and 2003 that cost more than $1 billion. From 2004 to 2023, that number rose to 273. Extreme weather events can affect demand for utilities, threaten aging infrastructure, and result in volatile fuel costs.

On October 24th, Fox Weather reported that the U.S. had already experienced 24 “billion dollar disasters” in 2024…

With the addition of three recent Atlantic hurricanes, the U.S. has experienced 24 billion-dollar weather and climate disasters this year – a near-record number, according to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).

On Thursday, NOAA’s NCEI released its assessment of the global climate, including U.S. weather disasters. Hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton and one tornado outbreak were added to this year’s billion-dollar weather and climate disasters, bringing the total to 24 events as of October.

This is our new normal.

On average, we are being hit by a “billion dollar disaster” about every two weeks.

Our world is becoming so unstable, and signs of volatility are all around us.  In fact, just yesterday one of the most violent volcanoes on U.S. soil started erupting again

Kilauea volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, is erupting, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said the eruption began at 2 a.m. local time on Monday, elevating Kilauea’s volcano alert system to the highest warning levels within a closed area of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.

“The opening phases of eruptions are dynamic,” the USGS said.

Natural disasters will continue to be a major theme in 2025, and I am entirely convinced that pestilences will be a major theme during the coming year as well.

The New York Times is telling us that the much deadlier new strain of mpox that has emerged in central Africa is spreading like wildfire in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

And confirmed cases of that new strain have now been reported in Belgium, Canada, Germany, India, Sweden, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States

Even as the World Health Organization (WHO) maintains the mpox situation in Africa is “especially concerning”, the disease has been reported in another country outside of the continent.

In the latest weekly bulletin, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said that a case of mpox has been detected in Belgium. The mpox virus in the case is from the clade 1b.

With this, Belgium became the eighth non-African country to report mpox infection from clade 1b. The other countries are Canada, Germany, India, Sweden, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Of course global health authorities are even more alarmed about the potential for a bird flu pandemic.

H5N1 continues to rip through poultry farms and dairy herds all over the nation, and now Los Angeles County has reported their very first human case

Los Angeles County health officials reported the first human case of bird flu in the area less than a week after a statewide emergency declaration was announced.

In a statement released on Monday, the L.A. County Department of Public Health said the human case of H5 bird flu was detected in an adult who was exposed to livestock infected with the virus at a worksite.

All over the world, people are starting to get infected, and many health experts are warning that a global crisis has become inevitable.

Needless to say, most Americans are not paying much attention to the things that I have shared in this article.

Instead, their focus is on other things.

At this point, everybody knows who Luigi Mangione is, because the mainstream media has been endlessly obsessing over Luigi Mangione.

And apparently there are quite a few young women that have decided that Luigi Mangione is some sort of a hero

An eerie public show of support for Luigi Mangione outside New York Supreme Court on Monday drew comparisons to The Manson Family.

A few dozen masked young women swayed and sang as the alleged UnitedHealthare CEO killer pleaded not guilty plea on terrorism charges.

The 26-year-old sported a collared shirt, maroon sweater and orange shoes as he leaned over to a microphone to enter his plea.

How sick is that?

His new “fans” rushed to buy the sweater that he wore to court, and so now it is out of stock

The Nordstrom knit sweater – which has been likened to the sweaters worn by the Menendez brothers during their infamous trial – has already sold out.

Immediately, Mangione’s fans tracked down the Marino crewneck top, which retails for $89.99 and is currently 30 percent off, and rushed to purchase it.

What is wrong with these people?

Luigi Mangione is a murderer.

Some are suggesting that he deserves the death penalty, and it is hard to argue with that.

But if he deserves the death penalty, what does our entire society deserve for killing more than 60 million American children since 1973?

Sadly, I think that it won’t be too long before we find out…

SHOCK POLL: Over 40 Percent of Young People Say Murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Was Justified | The Gateway Pundit

Credit: United Healthcare

Over 40 percent of young people believe the murder of a prominent healthcare executive justified, according to latest polling.

Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was murdered in cold blood by 26-year-old Luigi Mangioni in New York earlier this month.

While Mangioni’s exact motivations still remain unclear, it appears that the murder was the result of his anger at the American healthcare industry and the refusal of insurance companies to pay for essential care.

A survey conducted by Emerson College found that while the majority of Americans believe that the killing was “unacceptable,” 41 percent of young people believe it was “acceptable.”

The pollster reported:

A majority of voters (68%) think the actions of the killer of the United Healthcare CEO, Brian Thompson, are unacceptable. Seventeen percent find the actions acceptable, while 16% are unsure.

“While 68% of voters overall reject the killer’s actions, younger voters and Democrats are more split — 41% of voters aged 18-29 find the killer’s actions acceptable (24% somewhat acceptable and 17% completely acceptable), while 40% find them unacceptable; 22% of Democrats find them acceptable, while 59% find them unacceptable, this compares to 12% of Republicans and 16% of independents who find the actions acceptable, underscoring shifting societal attitudes among the youngest electorate and within party lines,” Kimball said.

Men were slightly more inclined to find the actions acceptable compared to women: 19% said the actions were acceptable compared to 14% of women.

The murder has led sparked widespread debate about the ethics of the healthcare industry, with many high-ranking politicians showing indifference to the murder or offering a merely lukewarm condemnation.

Among those to play down Mangioni’s crimes was far-left Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who argued that there will always come a point where people “take matters into their own hands.

“We’ll say it over and over,” Warren said in an interview with Joy Reid. “Violence is never the answer.”

“This guy gets a trial who’s allegedly killed the CEO of UnitedHealth, but you can only push people so far, and then they start to take matters into their own hands.”

Mangioni has been charged with first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, as well a host of other charges.

“There is no heroism in what Mangione did. This was a senseless act of violence,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“Any attempt to rationalize this is vile, reckless and offensive to our deeply held principles of justice,” she added.

Living Upright in an Unright World | Study – Grow – Know

I’ve reminded readers numerous times of Paul’s words to Timothy in which he warns that there will be terrible times in the end days (2 Timothy 3:1-5). In fact, both letters to Timothy are filled with warnings and admonitions. Because of all that is coming out regarding the mRNA jab and booster changing people’s personalities, there appears to be more light shined on what Paul has stated.

More research has been done showing that the mRNA jabs essentially cause neuro-inflammation in the brain. What this means is that people’s brains are directly affected with inflammation, which tends to cause changes in people’s personalities like greater anxiety, depression, anger, as well as other issues.[1][2][3]

These changes occur because the spike protein (and other additives in the shots, like plasmid DNA and SV40 along with other adjuvants), pass the blood-brain barrier, creating problems in the brain. In some cases, people end up becoming docile and compliant. In other cases, they become a shadow of their previous personality. It’s almost as though these people have become lobotomized. (Oh, by the way, we just learned that our DNA defines whether we are male or female. Who knew?![4])

So the issues related to the mRNA jab are manifold and more and more medical researchers are now calling for a complete halt to the mRNA jab. The problem of course, is that even if the mRNA shot is pulled completely and permanently, the sudden deaths and turbo cancers, among other adverse reactions, will not only continue, but increase. This is according to other medical researchers familiar with what they believe to be a causal link between the mRNA shot and adverse reactions.

But it does amaze me that in spite of these efforts to cancel the mRNA shot, other medical researchers are continuing to push for more vaccines to be created because of their certainty of more pandemics coming down the pike. Moderna just opened a new facility in Victoria Canada where they hope to produce roughly a million new vaccine doses yearly. Who is funding this since it is also clear that fewer and fewer people want to roll up their sleeves any longer? Is this Moderna situation happening because of a behind the scenes promise of mandating future jabs whether people want them or not? Seems like that will be difficult to push since people are actually suing and winning their cases against previous employers who told them as employees to get jabbed or lose your job.

So it seems clear enough that the mRNA jab has caused a multitude of severe issues, including personality changes. I’ve seen that in some of the folks in our church. They used to be lighthearted and upbeat. Now, they are far more introspective. They seem to be concerned or worried all the time, constantly thinking about things that don’t make them happy. It’s very strange to see that the smiles that once constantly existed on their faces have been replaced with looks of consternation. I feel sorry for them.

But as noted, it’s not just the personality changes from the mRNA jab that is changing the face of society. We are also experiencing some of the weirdest actions from average people. Most recently, the CEO for United Healthcare was gunned down in the middle of New York City. The murder was caught on camera. They have finally located and arrested the suspect – Luigi Mangione – who was located in Altoona, PA, noticed by a perceptive person at McDonald’s, who informed a worker, who then notified the police.[5]

Nothing about Mangione’s actions make sense. He comes from a very wealthy family and it appears he traveled all over the world, went to Ivy League schools, was Valedictorian of his class and even learned to code. I doubt if he had a job at all and seems to have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Yet, he railed against capitalism, the very thing his own family used to acquire their own wealth. Does this make sense to anyone?

Police have stated that the 3D printed gun found on him matches the bullet casings they found at the scene of the murder. It seems open and shut but who knows what will happen in court?

Mangione had a manifesto on him when he was arrested in which he seemed to be in agreement with the Unabomber, hated the healthcare system in the USA, and had other issues as well. The only clue connected to the healthcare industry so far is that he may have had chronic back pain that they tried to treat but were not able to successfully eradicate. Still, one wonders why, if his family was so wealthy, they simply didn’t pay for the best doctors to help Mangione’s back pain problem. It’s not as though they needed to rely on healthcare.

Connected to this is the idea that there are so many people who support Mangione’s actions and don’t believe he should be arrested, charged or tried, even though he allegedly murdered someone. This is nuts to say the least.

Case in point is independent journalist Taylor Lorenz, who was recently on Piers Morgan’s show. There, she talks about how “joyful” she was to hear that the CEO of a healthcare company had been murdered.[6] Fortunately, Morgan takes her to task, but Lorenz continues to try to “prove” her own point that the healthcare industry has killed millions of people so why not be happy about one CEO being taken out? Again, this is nuts.

UnitedHealth Group boss Andrew Witty spoke out about the recent murder of Brian Thompson, stating in part, “[Thompson] never forgot where he came from, because it was the needs of people who live in places like Jewell, Iowa, that he considered first in finding ways to improve care.”[7] Brian Thompson grew up on a farm and understood the value of hard work. According to Witty, Thompson would approach every new idea presented to him with, “Would you want this for your own family? If not, end of discussion.” Now, he’s dead, murdered by a psychopath that some are trying to paint as a “right-wing” techy. I notice there have been no calls for more gun control since Thompson’s murder likely because the suspect is clearly on the Left.

Then there’s the Daniel Penny situation, the Marine who held a person who was threatening people on the F train in NYC in a choke hold. He was finally (and rightfully) acquitted of all charges. Yet, the suspect’s father threatened to kill him in court. Beyond this, BLM has risen from the dead with a new cause. Apparently, as long as the person they support is a person of color, it doesn’t matter what’s in their past. BLM wants to go around choking white people as payback and I’m sure Mr. Penny will either have to hire body guards and/or be constantly looking over his shoulder now.

Of course, the media is not reporting that another black man helped Penny hold the black suspect. Moreover, a black woman on the scene expressed relief and thanks to Penny for keeping the suspect under control. If the media can elevate this to simply a “racist” crime by a white person, they’ll do that.

It reminds me of the allegations of rape against the Duke lacrosse team years ago by a black stripper. Years later, she’s admitting that the rapes never happened and she wants their forgiveness now. She also hopes they find “God’s love” and that she now believes God is “loving them through” her. She’s in prison for murdering her then boyfriend. Okay…

All of this has created a society that is more about hating than anything else. Let me remind us again of Paul’s words.

3 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

It’s very clear what Paul was telling Timothy. We are living in the last days and what we are seeing is simply more evidence of demonic activity working through human beings in preparation for the coming final kingdom led by the Antichrist, than anything else. People, as you know, are truly divided today like never before; divided over ideology, gender, race, culture, religion and politics. It’s causing many to draw battle lines.

Peter reminds us of coming problems as well in 2 Peter 3:3-4.

3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

This is what is pervading society today, an attitude of scoffing or unbelief.

Most are aware that Syria has fallen to Syrian rebels, apparently backed by the USA (and potentially other countries). Dictator Assad is allegedly safe in Russia and the rebels are now in charge. One of the first things they’ve begun to do is to execute non-Muslims, including Christians simply because they are not Muslims. This is in order to build the final Islamic Caliphate over which the coming Antichrist will lead.

Assad was certainly no angel. Apparently, during his reign nearly 30,000 prisoners were executed with their remains dipped in acid and buried in mass graves. The appalling lack of humanity with so many people can only be explained through an increase in satanic/demonic activity throughout the world. He’s now in Russia enjoying asylum.

Speaking of Russia, it was just announced that Russia has entered into a multi-billion dollar agreement with India to supply that country with oil. This is exactly why there is war between Ukraine and Russia. Technocrats desperately want to gain control of Russia’s natural resources, just like they want to gain control of the lithium and other mines in western North Carolina and other areas hit hard by recent hurricanes. It’s all about taking whatever they can take to further enrich themselves and transferring wealth from those who have to those who have much more leaving those who have with virtually nothing.

But we’re not done yet, because if we add to all of this the way people lie as a matter of course, it can truly become disheartening. Whether they’re lying about the C-V jab and its results (sudden deaths, turbo cancers and other adverse reactions), or the vaunted “climate change,” the truth is that without their lies, they can’t push anything.

So now we are being warned that pandemics are on the way. Oh NOOOOO! Moreover, “climate change” is destroying the planet so drastic measures need to be taken to avoid our demise. This includes stop eating meat, stop farming, stop “polluting” the world with carbon and other things as well. We constantly hear from non-scientists like John Kerry and other talking heads from the WHO, the UN or some group connected to them and the warnings are all the same and can be summed up in “We are all going to DIE!” Just as Melissa Fleming who says anyone who doesn’t believe climate change exists is really embracing “disinformation” and even “hate speech.” These people are totally bereft in the way they lie.

It’s ironic though that these people are never in the same room as Geologist Professor Ian Plimer or other actual scientists who are saying the opposite from what the paid talking heads are telling us.[8]

[The man-made climate change narrative] has got nothing to do with climate. It’s got nothing to do with environment. It’s got everything to do with destroying our economy.

Plimer and other scientists have weighed in on the terrible results of reducing carbon throughout the world. Ultimately, a severe reduction of it will destroy life on this planet, but Technocrats must find a way to gain control over global society, so they push lies and hire their henchmen to push their message.

Jesus cannot come soon enough for me. How about you? The only saving grace in all this (aside from God’s love and compassion for His own), is the fact that I believe He has given my wife and I (along with many others sold out to Him), the ability to discern truth from fiction. Because I understand what’s going on, I’m not really worried about it. I’m certainly not fearful about any new “pandemic” supposedly coming down the pikc. I had Covid and still have the antibodies to prove it, which means my immune system ultimately did what God designed it to do.

Beyond that, the world’s got serious economic problems on the way. Please note this short video of Ed Dowd on Steve Bannon’s WarRoom linked below (submitted to me by a reader).[9] We can only hope Trump has something up his sleeve to counter this but it would not surprise me if they tank the economy shortly after Trump’s inauguration.

In spite of all of this (and much more that I’ve not even broached), if we give into fear, they have won because they have gained control over our minds and our thinking affects our emotions. The only way to avoid living with fear is to understand what is actually going on and turn in trust to God who provides. That allows us to live our lives and carry on.

I don’t know about you, but I certainly like that idea!

  • Homan issues a new warning to sanctuary city mayors: Until now, Donald Trump’s nominee for border czar, Tom Homan, has been warning the mayors of so-called sanctuary cities to stay out of his way as he endeavors to deport the criminal illegals in our midst. But this weekend, instead of threatening to lock up meddlesome mayors, he appealed to the safety of their citizenry, telling Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo, “I want to send them a clear message: If you let us in the jail, we can arrest the bad guy in the jail, in the safety and security of a jail. One officer could do that. But when you release a public safety threat back in the community, you put that community at risk. You put my officers at risk. You put the alien at risk. Because here’s what’s going to happen: You’re going to release that guy into the community; I’m going to send an entire team to go look for the guy in your community.” Homan went on to note that where there’s one illegal, there are likely to be others, and low-priority targets will likely be swept up and deported with the high-priority criminal targets if these mayors try to protect the criminal illegals. “So let us in the jail,” he added. “It’s safer for everybody.”

  • Taylor Lorenz is too toxic for Vox: Leftist “journalist” Taylor Lorenz is apparently a bridge too far for Leftmedia outlet Vox as the two will be parting ways. This move continues Lorenz’s fall from being a “respected” journalist since she was dumped by The Washington Post after labeling Joe Biden a war criminal and then lying about it. Her latest antics, which appear to be what motivated Vox’s decision to cut ties with Lorenz, was an X post in which she expressed sympathy for the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Her post linked to a news report of Blue Cross Blue Shield’s (soon reversed) announcement that it would no longer pay for anesthesia for the full length of surgery. “And people wonder why we want these [healthcare] executives dead,” she wrote. For its part, Vox Media claimed that its agreement with Lorenz had only been on a short-term basis. Clearly, even Vox wants nothing to do with her toxic takes.
  • Current Congress to end as least productive in the modern era: With just a few weeks left, the 118th Congress is likely to go down as one of the least productive in the modern era. Out of the more than 19,000 bills that have been introduced over the last two years, just 137 have been passed, a passage rate of less than 1%. In all of 2023, Congress passed just 34 bills. The factors that played into this lack of productivity are the House Republicans’ protracted fight over the speakership as well as the divided Congress, with the Senate being held by Democrats and the House in GOP hands. Passing bills isn’t always good, but with the 119th Congress in Republican control and Donald Trump entering the Oval Office, Americans can expect much more positive productivity from the legislative branch.
  • Musk supports KOSA; CA wants social media warning: One piece of legislation that may make it to the finish line before the 118th Congress ends its run is the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). Lawmakers have sparred over the legislation that aims to protect children from online predators, social media manipulation, and access to porn sites. Free speech concerns have hampered the effort. However, Elon Musk, the owner of X and a leading free speech advocate, recently threw his support behind KOSA: “Protecting kids should always be priority #1. We can protect free speech and our kids at the same time from Big Tech. It’s time for House Republicans to pass the Kids Online Safety Act ASAP.” Meanwhile, California looks to become the first state to require a mental health warning message on all social media platforms. Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, who coauthored the bill, explained, “The promise of social media, although real, has turned into a situation where they’re turning our children’s attention into a commodity. The attention economy is using our children and their well-being to make money for these California companies.”

  • Team Biden-Harris is focused on the important things: In case you missed it, Sunday was [checks notes] Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day, and in a nation beset by obesity and chronic illness, the activists within the Biden administration’s Health and Human Services Department wanted the American people to know precisely where their priorities were. “Today on Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day,” they posted, “everyone deserves to feel seen, respected and supported — no matter who they love. Create a world where everyone feels proud to be themselves!” (For the uninitiated, pansexuality is the state of being sexually attracted to everyone.) Pansexuality is a condition that “most people hadn’t heard of until recently,” as one average Joe put it. “Now it’s plastered everywhere, with federal agencies pushing the narrative. Why? This isn’t about ‘love’ or ‘respect.’ It’s about control.” Celebrate us our else! they explained.
  • NJ Dem governor signs law banning “book bans”: On Monday, New Jersey Democrat Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill dubiously dubbed the Freedom to Read Act, touting it as “the antithesis of all these book-banning states that you see.” The law bars public school libraries from “banning” books based on the authors’ origin, background, or views. Tellingly, none of those were the reason for states like Florida keeping sexually explicit and age-inappropriate books and materials out of school libraries and classrooms. Furthermore, the Freedom to Read Act also includes restrictions against “developmentally inappropriate material.” However, the legislation protects librarians and library staff from criminal and civil charges filed by individuals who may object to books that they make available. In the end, this bill attempts to reinforce the false narrative that red states are on a book-banning crusade based solely on ideological grounds. It’s a leftist virtue signal that will expose kids to a lot of vices.
  • Golden Globes nominates a tranny for best actress: Like we always say here in our humble shop, Anything a woman can do, a man masquerading as a woman can do better. But that tongue-in-cheek axiom, which until now had been mainly limited to athletic endeavors, now applies to the performing arts. Hollywood’s Golden Globe awards made history yesterday by nominating the first man who identifies as a woman for best, er, actress. As The Washington Times reports, “Karla Sofia Gascon was nominated Monday for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, for playing a Mexican drug lord who undergoes a gender transition in the 2024 film ‘Emilia Perez.’” The Golden Globes had last year gone a step further in the television category by honoring a man named Michaela Jae Rodriguez with its award for Best Performance by an Actress [sic] in a Television Series. “It’s a problem any time an honor or award meant for a woman goes to a man,” said Kara Dansky, author of the 2023 book The Reckoning: How the Democrats and the Left Betrayed Women and Girls. “This is yet another example of erasing the female sex.”

Education

  • College enrollment is down 5%: Ya hate to see young Americans beginning to question the wisdom of taking on six figures of debt to subsidize a nationwide archipelago of leftist indoctrination camps. But here we are. “Fewer 18-Year-Olds Enrolled in College This Fall,” reads the grim headline from Inside Higher Ed. Perhaps more telling, though, is the subhead: “Some higher ed experts say last year’s botched FAFSA rollout is at least partly to blame.” Yes, of course, the ivory tower types must be saying. It must be FAFSA because it couldn’t possibly be our overpriced and underperforming product. FAFSA refers to the Department of Education’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid program, and this seems an odd place to affix the blame. As Inside Higher Ed reports: “This year’s steep drop in 18-year-old freshman enrollment contrasts sharply with the 3 percent enrollment bump the group experienced from 2022 to 2023. Enrollment fell for this demographic in 46 states this fall, with an average drop of 7.1 percent.” It’s hard to know whether this is an anomaly or the start of a more serious correction, but it’s nice to know that the academy isn’t impervious to Adam Smith’s Invisible Hand.

FEATURED ANALYSIS

The Hatred Behind the Murder of a Healthcare CEO

Nate Jackson

As Aesop once wrote, “A man is known by the company he keeps.” The Apostle Paul said the same thing to the church in Corinth: “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’” That may end up being the case with Luigi Mangione, 26, who was arrested and charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last Wednesday in New York City.

The leftist Jacobins celebrating Thompson’s murder are certainly of a similar ideological bent. According to their logic, Thompson was a wealthy CEO of a health insurance company that didn’t pay for every single medical procedure or pill; ergo, he was a villain and either deserved to die or at least wouldn’t be missed.

After several days on the lam, Mangione was recognized by an alert McDonald’s employee in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police arrested him within minutes. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said, “He was in possession of a ghost gun that had the capability of firing a 9mm round and a suppressor,” as well as four fake IDs and a “manifesto.” He’s been charged with murder, firearms, and forgery offenses, and it certainly seems as if he’s guilty.

CBS News reports, “Luigi is related to the Mangiones, a family in Maryland that owns several country clubs, including Haysfield Country Club in Hunt Valley, as well as health care facilities and real estate companies in the Baltimore area [emphasis added].”

He graduated in 2016 as valedictorian of the elite, all-boys Gilman School in Baltimore before attending the University of Pennsylvania and earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in 2020. According to those who knew him, he was a hard worker and a nice kid who got along with others and was well-liked. He was a wrestler who attended dances and the like, so he wasn’t an outcast. But he also seems to exhibit sociopathy, an evil cool and calm with his actions, and investigators will likely determine there is a cadre of socialist influence around him. He’s not a loner like other assailants in the past — including “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski, whose rantings about the healthcare system seem to have inspired Mangione based on his online activity.

Except he was a loner lately. His family reported him missing last month after he cut off communication with them.

In any case, perhaps he was radicalized by others while suffering physically himself. The New York Post reports that he was having difficulty recovering from a traumatic back injury and surgery. Yet, at age 26 — the upper limit for “children” under ObamaCare — he may have paid only a few insurance premiums on his own.

Shell cases recovered at the scene of Thompson’s murder were inscribed with the words “deny,” “depose,” and “defend,” inspired by the title of a book that denounces the health insurance industry.

“Officers recovered a handwritten document that speaks to both his motivation and mindset,” said Commissioner Tisch. The New York Times was more specific, reporting that the “handwritten manifesto … criticized health care companies for putting profits above care.” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny added, “It does seem that he had some ill will toward corporate America.”

Socialists do harbor sometimes violent ill will toward capitalists.

Indeed, he sent a loud message to thousands of other socialist whackos that this is their “final solution” to fight capitalism. That’s especially true for the leaders of insurance companies because there are always cases of someone being or feeling mistreated. Assuming he’s the killer, Mangione likely sees himself as some “savior” of the common man and already has been iconized as such by the Left. That means the demand for corporate security contractors just got much higher.

Thompson leaves behind a wife and two sons, while Maglione has “shocked and devastated” his own family. This murder didn’t solve a single thing wrong with the health insurance industry, and it already has fueled the increasing radicalization of anti-capitalist Jacobins on the Left, who may soon be out for more blood.

Now, Mangione’s fate is in the hands of corrupt Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, best known for his politicized persecution of Donald Trump and Daniel Penny and for letting actual criminals walk free.

It sure is hard to see any silver linings here.

SHORT CUTS

Dezinformatsiya

“Daniel Penny, the veteran who used a chokehold on subway rider Jordan Neely, has been acquitted in Neely’s death.” —Associated Press (It wasn’t a chokehold but a carotid restraint, and Neely was not just a “subway rider”; other than that, the story was accurate.)

Circling the Wagons

“When the president said that he would not pardon his son, wouldn’t grant clemency, the facts on the ground were completely different. It’s the middle of a presidential campaign. He was the candidate for president, didn’t want to be viewed as interfering. … Biden was hoping that Vice President Harris would win and that this would not be an issue.” —Washington Post associate editor Jonathan Capehart

“Trump is already looming much larger than the incumbent president who, with the exception of the pardon of his son, has nearly disappeared.” —Rich Lowry

“Even Clinton pollster James Carville has called Biden ‘The most tragic figure in American politics in my lifetime.’ If William Shakespeare were alive no better topic for a tragedy could be found than this president. History won’t be able to grant him a pardon.” —Cal Thomas

Lack of Self-Awareness Award

“We were pledging to be inclusive. We were pledging to bring people in. Donald Trump has said that that isn’t what he wants. … I thought that [Americans] were going to probably move towards a more positive message.” —Tim Walz

For the Record

“I find it utterly laughable, complete and total hypocrisy, when the progressive socialist leftists ramble on about weaponizing the government … something they have perfected going back to the Obama administration and the IRS.” —Allen West

“At a time when governments and politicians worldwide have been unable to reduce the size and cost of the state, [Javier] Milei ‘has shown that the continual expansion of the state is not inevitable,’ marveled The Economist.” —Jeff Jacoby

Outside the Law

Outside the Box

“Pennsylvania should refuse to extradite Luigi Mangione to Alvin Bragg — although the suspect IS white, so Bragg might not immediately release him.” —Ann Coulter

And Last…
