Multiple conflicts are currently unfolding simultaneously across several Mexican states. In Jalisco, fighting between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the federal government has created what authorities describe as an active warzone, with roadblocks and airport closures.

In Sinaloa, clashes between Los Chapitos and the Mayito Flaco faction have resulted in high-intensity violence, including daily shootouts in Culiacán.

This new wave of conflicts began on February 22, 2026, when Mexican security forces killed Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, during a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco. He was wounded in a clash with soldiers and died during the operation.

The raid, carried out by special forces with support from the air force and military intelligence, was conducted with information provided by U.S. authorities. Oseguera, who had a $15 million U.S. bounty on his head and faced multiple drug-trafficking indictments, was killed along with several alleged accomplices. Additional cartel members were arrested, and weapons, including rocket launchers, as well as armored vehicles were seized. Members of Mexico’s security forces were also injured in the operation.

Born in Michoacán in 1966, Oseguera later moved to the United States, where he was convicted in 1994 of conspiracy to distribute heroin and served three years in prison. After returning to Mexico, he resumed criminal activity and eventually co-founded CJNG around 2007. The cartel emerged from the remnants of the Milenio Cartel after its leader was arrested. Oseguera consolidated power through alliances, including ties to Los Cuinis, a family-based organization that managed financial and logistical operations.

Under his leadership, CJNG expanded across Mexico and became a major force in the global drug trade, trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl and maintaining connections to chemical precursor suppliers in China. The group has been linked to assassination attempts on officials, killings of rivals and law enforcement, coordinated attacks on security forces, and the 2015 downing of a military helicopter. It operates in more than 40 countries and was designated a terrorist organization by the United States in February 2025.

His death triggered widespread violence across multiple states, including Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Nayarit, Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, Guerrero, and Zacatecas. Gunmen set up roadblocks with burning vehicles, blocked highways, and attacked infrastructure, causing panic in cities such as Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. In Guanajuato, retaliation led to arson attacks on businesses and banks, while in Michoacán, clashes between CJNG and local autodefensa groups resulted in blockades and continued instability.

Authorities suspended public transportation, canceled school in several areas, and urged residents to stay indoors. Airlines from the United States and Canada halted flights to affected cities, and both governments issued travel warnings as unrest spread.

Analysts note that CJNG’s franchise-like structure, composed of numerous affiliated groups, makes it unlikely to collapse quickly. With no clear successor, internal power struggles could emerge, as previous efforts to remove cartel leaders have often resulted in replacements taking control while drug flows continued. The death of El Mencho on February 22, 2026, may further destabilize the organization and alter existing alliances.

One potential beneficiary of the shifting balance of power is Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, known as “El Chapo Isidro.” A former lieutenant in the Beltrán Leyva Organization, he has spent the past year expanding the Guasave Cartel from a regional operation into a broader power base. On January 12, 2026, analysts assessed that he had moved from a regional figure to a national-level actor. In May 2025, he formed an alliance with Ismael “Mayito Flaco” Zambada, combining his military wing with the logistical networks of the Mayiza faction.

To counter this bloc, Los Chapitos aligned with their former rivals, CJNG, in mid-2025, with El Mencho reportedly sending gunmen into Sinaloa to support the Guzmán faction. El Mencho’s death is expected to weaken that arrangement as CJNG leaders focus on internal control. Analysts suggest this could leave Los Chapitos isolated while Meza Flores and Mayito Flaco consolidate influence in the Golden Triangle region.

The Sinaloa conflict, which began on September 9, 2024, has lasted approximately 17 months and has resulted in more than 4,000 people killed or disappeared. Meza Flores controls the Guasave region and has expanded operations into Sonora and Nayarit.

On February 4, 2025, the FBI added Meza-Flores to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. He was originally indicted in 2012 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and a superseding indictment in 2019 charged him with drug trafficking violations and firearm possession. According to the indictment, he allegedly conspired to manufacture and distribute cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana in the United States from 2005 to 2019. The U.S. State Department is offering up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

A 42-year-old Mexican national, he is believed to be in Mexico and is considered armed, dangerous, and an international flight risk. His case is part of ongoing efforts by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces to dismantle high-level trafficking organizations. Experts state that weakening such groups requires targeting infrastructure, finances, and logistics.

Is Mexico On The Verge Of Collapse? A Massive Uprising Erupts As Protesters That Have Lost All Faith In The Government Storm The Presidential Palace | End Of The American Dream

The chaos that has erupted in Mexico City is shocking the entire globe.  Vast hordes of angry protesters that are fed up with the corruption of the Mexican government surrounded the presidential palace on Saturday.  Law enforcement authorities knew that the protesters would be coming, and so they set up an enormous security wall around the presidential palace, but the protesters tore it down anyway.  In all my years, I have never seen anything quite like this in Mexico.  Could it be possible that our southern neighbor is on the verge of collapse?

At this stage, nobody can deny that Mexico is a failed narco-state.  The drug cartels currently control about a third of all Mexican territory, and it has been estimated that they bring in approximately 600 billion pesos from drug trafficking each year.

Most of the drugs that those cartels produce end up on the streets of major U.S. cities, but Claudia Sheinbaum refuses to take action against the cartels, and she won’t allow the Trump administration to take action against them either.

The protest in Mexico City on Saturday was an anti-cartel protest.  Many Mexicans are deeply frustrated with what has happened to their nation, and they are blaming Claudia Sheinbaum’s government

Rioters stormed the barricades outside the presidential palace in Mexico City as an anti-cartel protest descended into chaos.

Mobs of frustrated, mostly Gen Z Mexican protestors traded blows with cops and screamed slogans about how corruption and cartel killings have spiraled out of control in their country.

Thousands of people filled the streets of the nation’s capital and marched to the palace, which is the official residence of President Claudia Sheinbaum, the progressive politician who took office last October.

A lot of people got hurt during the violence that erupted.

In fact, it is being reported that 100 police officers were injured…

At least 120 people – 100 of them police officers – have been injured in clashes during anti-government protests in Mexico City, police said.

Earlier this month, one of the most outspoken anti-cartel politicians in Mexico was assassinated.

His name was Carlos Manzo, and many in the crowd in Mexico City were heard chanting his name.

The protesters simply want their country back, but that is not going to happen.

A couple of weeks ago, Sheinbaum completely ruled out a new “war on drugs”

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum ruled out a new “war on drugs” as a response to the assassination of a regional mayor who was shot at a Day of the Dead celebration, a brazen killing that has sparked national outrage.

“Returning to the war against el narco is not an option,” Sheinbaum told reporters Monday, referring to the bloody anti-crime offensive launched almost two decades ago. “Mexico already did that, and the violence got worse.”

The president spoke as the nation was reeling from the killing Saturday of Carlos Manzo, mayor of Uruapan in the west-central state of Michoacán, which has become an organized-crime battleground.

Sheinbaum belongs to a far left political party called Morena.

In many ways, it is very similar ideologically to the Democratic Socialists of America.

During the election that resulted in her coming to power, 37 other candidates for office were assassinated by the cartels

Claudia Sheinbaum was elected as Mexico’s first female president Sunday following the deadliest election campaign in the country’s modern history.

More than three dozen candidates were assassinated, including a local government candidate in central Puebla state who was killed on Friday, increasing the total number of those killed to 37 ahead of Sunday’s vote, according to data from security consultancy Integralia obtained by Reuters.

As long as she continues to do what they want, Sheinbaum isn’t going to be touched by the cartels.

They were absolutely thrilled when she won, and they continue to be thrilled with her.

It would be difficult to overstate the power that the cartels have accumulated.  In recent decades they have become increasingly sophisticated and increasingly militarized

As Mexico’s two-decade war against drug cartels has worn on, cartel tactics have evolved. The groups have begun to focus not just on moving drugs to the United States but also on controlling territory inside Mexico, which has led to intensified inter-cartel battles and the groups’ increased militarization. Cartels now operate more like insurgent groups than purely criminal organizations, employing tactics such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs), drones, and the recruitment of foreign mercenaries, specifically from Colombia. As of May 2024, cartels controlled about one-third of Mexico’s territory.

If one cartel ran the whole show, there would be a lot less violence.

Unfortunately for the Mexican people, there are numerous cartel wars that are currently raging in various parts of the country

  • The Sinaloa Cartel Civil War: Two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, the Mayito Flacos and Los Chapitos, are currently battling for control of the state of Sinaloa. Forces under leader Ismael “Mayito Flaco” Zambada currently control southern Sinaloa, while Los Chapitos are centered around the state capital of Culiacán. Los Chapitos recently announced an alliance with their historical rival, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), and CJNG fighters have launched offensives along the border of Sinaloa and Durango against Mayito Flaco-associated factions.
  • The Gulf Cartel Civil War: Multiple factions of the Gulf Cartel are fighting for control of Tamaulipas, with the two main groups being the Metros, out of Reynosa and Grupo Escorpión out of Matamoros. The factions currently maintain a tenuous ceasefire after years of fighting.
  • Mayito Flaco and CJNG Conflict: Mayito Flaco and CJNG are currently engaged in multiple territorial battles spanning Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Durango, Zacatecas, and Chiapas.
  • CJNG Michoacán Offensive: CJNG is currently on the offensive in Michoacán, fighting against two cartels, the United Cartels and La Familia Michoacana.

We are being told that President Trump is considering going to war with Venezuela in order to reduce the flow of drugs into the United States.

But the truth is that far, far more drugs are coming into the United States from Mexico

The switch to Venezuela was a surprise to those of us studying drug trafficking: Fentanyl from Mexico is the leading cause for overdose deaths in the U.S. Drugs trafficked through and from Venezuela are not synthetic opioids, but cocaine shipped to West Africa and Europe, with very little making its way to the U.S. Fentanyl, not cocaine, is the leading contributor to U.S. overdose deaths.

A couple of weeks ago, NBC News was reporting that U.S. officials had actually been planning an operation that would “send American troops and intelligence officers into Mexico to target drug cartels”

The Trump administration has begun detailed planning for a new mission to send American troops and intelligence officers into Mexico to target drug cartels, according to two U.S. officials and two former senior U.S. officials familiar with the effort.

The early stages of training for the potential mission, which would include ground operations inside Mexico, has already begun, the two current U.S. officials said. But a deployment to Mexico is not imminent, the two U.S. officials and one of the former U.S. officials said. Discussions about the scope of the mission are ongoing, and a final decision has not been made, the two current U.S. officials said.

In order to take action inside Mexican territory, we would need the permission of the Mexican government.

And every time this has come up, Sheinbaum has completely rejected the possibility of any U.S. military activity on Mexican soil…

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has flatly denied reports that the United States is planning to send troops into Mexico to confront the country’s powerful cartels, noting that she had repeatedly rejected such offers from Donald Trump.

“It’s not going to happen,” Sheinbaum said during her daily morning news conference on Tuesday. “We do not agree with any process of interference or interventionism.”

Sheinbaum’s comments come after a report from NBC News citing current and former US officials that the Trump administration has started planning a mission to send US troops and intelligence officers into Mexico.

We could go in without Sheinbaum’s permission, but that would be an act of war.

If we cross that red line, that would push Mexico into the arms of Russia and China.

But will President Trump really be okay with sitting back and watching Mexican drug cartels continue to flood our streets with illegal drugs for the next three years?

That seems unlikely.

I think that at some point President Trump will lose patience and take military action against the cartels, and at that point things will get really wild.

Politicians and civilians are dying by the tens of thousands as cartel violence in Mexico spirals out of control. Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, the mayor of Uruapan in Michoacán State, was shot seven times and killed on November 2, 2025, during a Day of the Dead celebration in the city’s central plaza at the Festival of Lights.

Manzo is the sixth mayor assassinated in Mexico this year. During the 2024 election cycle, eighteen mayoral candidates or aspiring candidates were murdered, and from October 2024 through early 2025, eight sitting mayors were also killed across the country.

A mayor was beheaded. Alejandro Arcos Catalán, mayor of Chilpancingo in Guerrero, was murdered in October 2024. His head was found atop a white van, with the rest of his body inside the vehicle. Over 268 political candidates, politicians, associates, or family members were killed from December 2023 to June 2024.

Between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2023, at least 2,638 police officers were slain. In Guanajuato State, more police were shot to death in 2023, about sixty, than in the entire United States. In the city of Celaya, population 500,000, at least thirty-four police officers have been killed in the last three years. Mexico’s national statistics institute counts 486,000 total homicides between 2007 and 2024.

Earlier this year, in February 2025, the State Department designated six Mexican drug cartels, along with MS-13 and the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, as foreign terrorist organizations. The move gave U.S. intelligence and military agencies sweeping legal authority to conduct espionage and covert operations targeting the criminal networks.

In May 2025, President Trump confirmed his proposal to send U.S. troops to Mexico to combat drug trafficking, targeting cartels and other criminal groups operating from Latin America. Detailed planning for these missions is underway, and early stages of training, including possible ground operations inside Mexico, have already begun. It remains unclear when U.S. military operations might take place or whether Mexican officials will be informed in advance.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stated that “all options will be on the table” when it comes to dealing with the cartels. Under the proposed plan, U.S. forces in Mexico would primarily use drone strikes to hit drug labs and cartel members and leaders. Some of the drones special forces would operate require personnel on the ground to use them effectively and safely.

The mission would mark a break with past administrations, which quietly deployed CIA, military, and law enforcement teams to Mexico to support local police and army units fighting cartels but did not take direct lethal action against them.

Secretary Hegseth wrote on X on October 30, 2025, “The Western Hemisphere is no longer a safe haven for narco-terrorists bringing drugs to our shores to poison Americans. The Department of War will continue to hunt them down and eliminate them wherever they operate.”

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo rejected President Trump’s proposal to send U.S. troops into Mexico, declaring, “I told him, ‘No, President Trump, our territory is inviolable, our sovereignty is inviolable, our sovereignty is not for sale. Sovereignty is loved and defended.’” She said Mexico and the United States “can work together, but you in your territory and us in ours,” adding firmly, “There will be no invasion of Mexico.”

Regarding the Trump administration’s designation of cartels as terrorist organizations, Sheinbaum warned, “This designation should not be used by the United States as an opportunity to invade our sovereignty.”

At her October 23, 2025, press conference, Sheinbaum also rejected U.S. air strikes, stating, “Obviously, we do not agree. There are international laws on how to operate when dealing with the alleged illegal transport of drugs or guns on international waters, and we have expressed this to the government of the United States and publicly.”

She concluded, “The United States is not going to come to Mexico with the military. We cooperate, we collaborate, but there is not going to be an invasion. That is ruled out, absolutely ruled out.”

Most likely, Sheinbaum and Mexico will be receiving U.S. troops whether she acknowledges the need or not.

$312 Billion in Chinese Money Laundering Networks Is Driving the Drug Crisis and Human Trafficking in the US | The Gateway Pundit

The Treasury Department has confirmed a national security and public safety disaster: Chinese money-laundering networks have pushed more than $312 billion in illicit transactions through U.S. financial institutions in recent years.

That money financed Mexican drug cartels, enabled human traffickers, and supported organized criminal networks that have left tens of thousands of Americans dead from fentanyl overdoses and other cartel-driven violence.

According to FINCEN.gov, financial institutions filed 1,675 BSA reports in the dataset indicating suspicious activity potentially involving human trafficking or human smuggling.

FINCEN.gov also discovered funds potentially associated with healthcare fraud, elder abuse, and suspicious gaming activity.

What makes these Chinese Money Laundering Networks (CMLNs) especially dangerous is their coordination with Mexico’s most violent cartels, including the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation organizations.

Mexico’s strict limits on U.S. dollar deposits force cartels to look abroad, while China’s own capital controls make moving money out of the country nearly impossible through legal channels.

Criminals found the perfect solution: CMLNs convert cartel drug profits in dollars into Chinese renminbi and then cycle those funds back into the U.S. banking system.

The cartels get clean money. China’s elites get access to American assets. And Americans pay the price in drug overdoses, gang violence, and financial corruption.

Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) documented 137,153 suspicious activity reports between 2020 and 2024 linked directly to CMLNs.

These reports describe methods ranging from mirror transactions and trade-based laundering to the use of so-called “money mules.”

Students, retirees, and homemakers with little or no income were recruited to make large deposits that far exceeded their financial profiles. This layering of ordinary citizens into billion-dollar schemes makes detection more difficult and gives cartels longer lifelines.

FinCEN also found $53.7 billion in suspicious real estate transactions, much of it in major cities where foreign buyers already distort housing markets.

Another $766 million was tied to adult day-care centers in New York, which investigators believe could be linked to healthcare fraud, elder abuse, and even human trafficking.

More than 1,600 cases pointed to human smuggling and trafficking operations, while another 108 cases were tied directly to elder abuse and Medicare fraud.

Thankfully, the Trump Administration is right to treat this as both a law enforcement issue and a national security issue.

Fentanyl overdoses now kill more than 70,000 Americans each year—more than died in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan combined.

Every dollar cartels launder through U.S. banks is another dollar used to poison our communities, exploit children, and destabilize neighborhoods.

This should not be a partisan matter, but Democrats have shown more interest in protecting bureaucratic regulators than in dismantling the international financial pipelines that keep cartels alive.

America’s banks must never be safe havens for Chinese criminals and Mexican cartels. This is a test of national will, and Republicans are the only ones treating it with the urgency it deserves.

President Trump ‘Secretly’ Signs Directive Ordering Pentagon to Begin Unleashing MILITARY FORCE Against Foreign Drug Cartels: Report | The Gateway Pundit

President Trump is upping the ante against the terrorist drug cartels who have been poisoning America and endangering its citizens for decades in an unprecedented fashion.

The New York Times reported Friday that Trump ‘secretly’ signed a directive ordering the Pentagon to start using military force against certain Latin American drug cartels.

The order provides an official basis for the possibility of direct military operations at sea and on foreign soil against cartels. This means that US troops could find themselves in countries like Mexico battling the Sinaloa Cartel, for example.

As TGP readers know, Trump has long floated the possibility of sending the most powerful fighting force on the planet right into the home turf of the foreign drug lords. The president also previously offered to send troops to Mexico to fight the notorious cartels.

In addition to Mexico, communist Venezuela has refused to lift a finger to combat the problem.

Instead, both countries have dumped r*pists, murderers, and gangbangers right on American soil. Tragically, innocent Americans such as Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray have paid the price.

The White House refused to confirm or deny the Times report. Anna Kelly, a White House spokeswoman, sent an email to the paper which said “President Trump’s top priority is protecting the homeland, which is why he took the bold step to designate several cartels and gangs as foreign terrorist organizations.”

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Trump signed an executive order on his first day back in office aimed at dismantling the drug cartels that have been terrorizing America.

The executive order signed by Trump designates these groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs).

Specifically, it targets notorious cartels such as the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, as well as violent gangs like MS-13 and Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua.

In February, the State Department designated Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua, El Salvador’s Mara Salvatrucha (known as MS-13), and several more organizations as foreign terrorist organizations.

The Biden administration’s open-border policies have only emboldened these criminal organizations. By dismantling Trump-era measures like the “Remain in Mexico” policy and halting border wall construction, Biden effectively handed the cartels a golden ticket to expand their influence.

Now, President Trump is willing to destroy them once and for all by any means necessary.

This ought to scare the hell out of the cartel drug lords on the ground.
The US is allegedly flying reconnaissance planes inside Mexico.

On his second day in office President Trump officially designated drug cartels on the southern border as terrorist organizations.

Last week Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that “all options are on the table” regarding the Mexican cartels.

President Trump is not fooling around with the Mexican cartels.

Aviacionline reported Monday (in Spanish) that US authorities are using high-tech aircraft over the border to strengthen surveillance over possible illicit activities.

Canada And Mexico Choose Economic Survival Rather Than Economic Collapse | The Economic Collapse

It is so important to know when you are holding a losing hand.  Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau initially insisted that he would never back down, but Donald Trump had most of the leverage in this situation.  Canada’s economy is very heavily dependent on foreign trade, and the U.S. is Canada’s number one trading partner.  If Trudeau ultimately decided to dig in for a fight, Canada’s economy would have collapsed.  Thankfully, he has agreed to negotiate a deal with Trump.  To the south, we must give Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum a lot of credit for realizing that she simply was not going to win this particular battle.  So she has agreed to send 10,000 Mexican troops to help secure the border, and Trump has agreed to pause the tariffs on Mexico for a month as negotiations continue

President Trump announced he is pausing U.S. tariffs targeting imports from Mexico for a month after the country’s president agreed to send 10,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to combat the flow of fentanyl and migrants.

Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday that he and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum “agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period.” The pause, he said, will allow “negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico.”

Trade accounts for 73 percent of Mexico’s GDP, and the U.S. is Mexico’s number one trading partner.

In fact, approximately 80 percent of Mexico’s exports go to the United States.

Without the United States, Mexico basically doesn’t have an economy, and so Sheinbaum correctly recognized that she was forced to make a deal.

Following his conversation with Sheinbaum, the following is what Trump posted on Truth Social…

In this particular case, Trump’s ultra-aggressive negotiating approach worked.

The Mexicans were forced to fold, and Vice-President JD Vance was very excited about this

For three days a lot of the far left has actively rooted against America and argued we’d get nothing out of President Trunp’s demands that Mexico secure its country.

Well, how do you like them apples?

Just like Mexico, the Canadian economy is also highly dependent on trade with the United States.

In fact, over three-fourths of Canada’s total exports go to our country

In 2023, Canada exported close to C$550 billion worth of goods and services to the U.S., or more than three-fourths of its total exports. Energy accounted for 30% and manufacturing contributed around 15% to exports south of the border.

Exports to the U.S. accounts for roughly 17.8% of Canadian gross domestic product and more than 2.4 million jobs in Canada.

At first, Trudeau was pledging that he would match Trump’s tariffs with high tariffs of his own

Canada will retaliate against President Donald Trump’s new tariffs with 25% levies on a raft of U.S. imports, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Saturday, warning Americans that Trump’s actions would have real consequences for them.

As relations between the long-time allies who share the world’s longest land border reach a new low, Trudeau told a news conference he was slapping tariffs on C$155 billion ($107 billion) of U.S. goods. Those on C$30 billion will take effect on Tuesday, the same day as Trump’s tariffs, and duties on the remaining C$125 billion in 21 days, he said.

But then his advisers probably got him to understand that a trade war with the U.S. could potentially collapse the Canadian economy.

So Trudeau relented, and on Monday he also made a deal with Trump to send approximately “10,000 frontline personnel” to help secure the border…

I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.

In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.

Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.

So for now, a trade war with Mexico and Canada has been averted.

At least for a month.

And that is a really good thing, because the consequences would have been dramatic.

In fact, it was being projected that Canada’s auto industry was “going to shut down within a week”

The auto sector is going to shut down within a week,” said Flavio Volpe, president of Canada’s Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, who Bloomberg quoted about the weekend tariff shock announced by the Trump administration: A 25% tariff on imported goods from Mexico and Canada, with energy imports from Canada facing only a 10% tariff, and a 10% tariff on imports from China.

Volpe warned that 25% tariffs, which go into effect at 12:01 am on Tuesday, will mean “absolutely nobody in our business is profitable by a long shot.”

Hopefully permanent deals with both Mexico and Canada will be reached so that we are not facing a similar scenario a month from now.

At this stage, the focus will turn elsewhere.

President Trump is threatening the EU with tariffs, and he doesn’t have as much leverage with EU leaders as he does with the leaders of Mexico and Canada.

As a result, that could turn out to be a protracted battle.

And the Chinese are going to be a tough nut to crack as well.

Trump has already imposed a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods, and China has absolutely no intention of backing down.

So we shall see what happens.

Throughout human history, trade wars often precede real wars.

And I have been warning that a military conflict with China is coming for many years.

Trump’s ultra-aggressive approach got Mexico and Canada to back down very rapidly, and I am sure that we will see Trump use a similar approach with other nations.

Let us hope that it works, because otherwise we could have a real nightmare on our hands.

President Trump Has Officially Designates Drug Cartels in Southern Border as Foreign Terrorist Organizations | The Gateway Pundit

President Donald Trump has once again proven his unwavering commitment to national security by announcing a decisive executive order aimed at dismantling the drug cartels that have been terrorizing America.

On Monday, a new executive order was signed by Trump to designate these groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs).

The executive order specifically targets notorious cartels such as the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, as well as violent gangs like MS-13 and Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua.

The Biden administration’s open-border policies have only emboldened these criminal organizations. By dismantling Trump-era measures like the “Remain in Mexico” policy and halting border wall construction, Biden effectively handed the cartels a golden ticket to expand their influence.

By designating these entities as FTOs and SDGTs, Trump’s administration is determined to mobilize every available resource—ranging from intensified law enforcement crackdowns to strategic military operations—aimed at dismantling cartel leadership, infrastructure, and operations.

Trump says he may deploy the military into Mexico to strike the cartels after designating them as foreign terrorist organizations through an executive order.

Labeling these cartels as FTOs and SDGTs also enables the U.S. government to:

  • Freeze assets linked to the cartels within U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Prosecute individuals providing support to these organizations under stringent anti-terrorism laws.
  • Deny entry to members and affiliates of the designated groups.

From this day forward, cartel leaders and the government officials shielding them are officially on notice.

DESIGNATING CARTELS AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS AS FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS AND SPECIALLY DESIGNATED GLOBAL TERRORISTS

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. 1101 et seq., the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA),50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq. it is hereby ordered:

Section 1.  Purpose.  This order creates a process by which certain international cartels (the Cartels) and other organizations will be designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, consistent with section 219 of the INA (8 U.S.C. 1189), or Specially Designated Global Terrorists, consistent with IEEPA (50 U.S.C. 1702) and Executive Order 13224 of September 23, 2001 (Blocking Property and Prohibiting Transactions With Persons Who Commit, Threaten to Commit, or Support Terrorism), as amended.

(a)  International cartels constitute a national-security threat beyond that posed by traditional organized crime, with activities encompassing:

(i)    convergence between themselves and a range of extra-hemispheric actors, from designated foreign-terror organizations to antagonistic foreign governments;

(ii)   complex adaptive systems, characteristic of entities engaged in insurgency and asymmetric warfare; and

(iii)  infiltration into foreign governments across the Western Hemisphere.

The Cartels have engaged in a campaign of violence and terror throughout the Western Hemisphere that has not only destabilized countries with significant importance for our national interests but also flooded the United States with deadly drugs, violent criminals, and vicious gangs.

The Cartels functionally control, through a campaign of assassination, terror, rape, and brute force nearly all illegal traffic across the southern border of the United States.  In certain portions of Mexico, they function as quasi-governmental entities, controlling nearly all aspects of society.  The Cartels’ activities threaten the safety of the American people, the security of the United States, and the stability of the international order in the Western Hemisphere.  Their activities, proximity to, and incursions into the physical territory of the United States pose an unacceptable national security risk to the United States.

(b)  Other transnational organizations, such as Tren de Aragua (TdA) and La Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) pose similar threats to the United States.  Their campaigns of violence and terror in the United States and internationally are extraordinarily violent, vicious, and similarly threaten the stability of the international order in the Western Hemisphere.

(c)  The Cartels and other transnational organizations, such as TdA and MS-13, operate both within and outside the United States.  They present an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.  I hereby declare a national emergency, under IEEPA, to deal with those threats.

Sec. 2.  Policy.  It is the policy of the United States to ensure the total elimination of these organizations’ presence in the United States and their ability to threaten the territory, safety, and security of the United States through their extraterritorial command-and-control structures, thereby protecting the American people and the territorial integrity of the United States.

Sec. 3.  Implementation.  (a)  Within 14 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of State shall take all appropriate action, in consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Director of National Intelligence, to make a recommendation regarding the designation of any cartel or other organization described in section 1 of this order as a Foreign Terrorist Organization consistent with 8 U.S.C. 1189 and/or a Specially Designated Global Terrorist consistent with 50 U.S.C. 1702 and Executive Order 13224.

(b)  Within 14 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall take all appropriate action, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to make operational preparations regarding the implementation of any decision I make to invoke the Alien Enemies Act, 50 U.S.C. 21 et seq., in relation to the existence of any qualifying invasion or predatory incursion against the territory of the United States by a qualifying actor, and to prepare such facilities as necessary to expedite the removal of those who may be designated under this order.

Sec. 4.  General Provisions.  (a)  Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

(i)   the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(ii)  the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(b)  This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c)  This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

Now, as Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House, Mexican cartels, Chinese chemical companies, money laundering networks across North America, and US-based drug dealers are on notice that the boom times under the Biden-Harris regime’s open southern border policies will soon be coming to an end.

If Trump follows through with his 2023 campaign promise to “wage war” against Mexican drug cartels, then Americans could expect an end to the horrific 100,000 US drug death overdose crisis per year caused by fentanyl and other drugs – much of which starts as precursor chemicals shipped from China, cooked into fentanyl by Mexican cartels, then flooded in the Lower 48.

Here’s Trump’s action plan to destroy the cartels:

  • Restore all Trump border policies and fully secure border
  • Deploy all necessary military assets, including the U.S. Navy, to impose a full naval embargo on the cartels, to ensure they cannot use our region’s waters to traffic illicit drugs to the U.S.
  • Order the Department of Defense to make appropriate use of special forces, cyber warfare, and other covert and overt actions to inflict maximum damage on cartel leadership, infrastructure, and operations
  • Designate the major drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations
  • Cut off the cartels’ access to the global financial system
  • Get full cooperation of neighboring governments to dismantle the cartels, or else fully expose the bribes and corruption that protect these criminal networks
  • Ask Congress to ensure drug smugglers and traffickers can receive the Death Penalty

Trump’s team released this video in December 2023 titled “President Donald J. Trump Declares War on Cartels.”

Now the question arises: Does the Trump-Vance team still hold these strong cartel-busting views after announcing them nearly a year ago?

Absolutely…

Here’s JD Vance on the campaign trail in late October: “On behalf of every American who has lost a loved one due to this border crisis, we’re going to kick some cartel ass when President Donald J. Trump takes office.”

Not too long ago, Trump announced financial armageddon for Mexican cartels: “I’m announcing that for the first time under my administration, we are seizing the assets of the criminal gangs and drug cartels and we will use those assets to create a compensation fund to provide restitution for the victims of migrant crime.”

At the Republican National Convention, Tom Homan, who served as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement between 2017 and 2018, told Mexican cartels: “You’re done.”

Americans are desperately hoping for closed borders and a resolution to this drug death chaos and illegal alien invasion. Trump’s historic election sweep shows just that. Now get to work, Mr. President.

In our view, the Trump team next year could start by disrupting the financial networks – or command and control centers – of cartels. Trump already mentioned seizing assets, but what’s rarely mentioned is the possibility of sanctioning Mexican banks.
