September 28 Daily Treasures from the Word of God

Intro

Welcome to Daily Treasures from the Word of God. Today’s reading is Psalms 106 through 112. Our lesson is from Psalm 106:1–3, “Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the Lord, Or can show forth all His praise? How blessed are those who keep justice, Who practice righteousness at all times!” (NASU)

Lesson

In a number of psalms, we see the divine perspective and the human contrast. Today’s psalm shows God’s perfect character and nature and human frailty and inconsistency. Yet God’s faithfulness will not be broken. Let’s look at three comments about today’s text.

First, the psalmist praises the Lord. Praise should be an everyday part of our devotion to the Lord. It shows the attitude of our heart and willingness to give God the honor that is exclusive to Him in our relationship with Him.

The Lord’s mercies, love and grace are incalculable. There are so many things that He does on our behalf that we do not even notice. This is why praise should be an integral part of our devotional experience. The form-whether it be through music, Scripture reading or meditation-should always pay tribute to Him. No one should receive the praise belonging to our God.

Next, the psalmist thanks the Lord. Thanking the Lord shows the gratefulness of the believer. As we read today’s psalm, we notice how Israel had forgotten about the great exploits God did for them as a nation.

The overriding lesson is for God’s people to be a thankful people who really appreciate God’s loving care in their lives. The Lord is not distanced or uninvolved in the affairs of His people. Just the opposite is true. Time and time again, the Bible points to the Lord being personal and engaged in the lives of His creatures. This is true in the Old and New Testaments. The apostle Paul was thankful and reminded those who read his writings to be thankful to the Lord.

Finally, the psalmist blesses those who keep justice. Those who obey and follow the Lord are responding to the Lord’s attributes. Only the Lord is perfectly righteous and just. However, those who practice justice according to God’s principles and character are blessed. The behavior and practices of the people of God should be so attractive that others would want to be a part of God’s people.

In conclusion, the psalmist praises the Lord. The psalmist thanks the Lord. And the psalmist blesses those who keep justice.

Take a moment to read and meditate on the entire psalm. Let the Holy Spirit bring to mind any areas that need improvements in your Christian walk. Surrender to Him and then praise our Lord!

End

It has been a pleasure to share with you Daily Treasures from the Word of God. Tomorrow’s Bible reading is Psalms 113 through 118. Let’s not forget the words of the psalmist, “The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.” Until tomorrow and may God bless you in abundance as you study the Word of God.1
