Day 28: Living in Light of Eternity | The Daily Declaration

Eternity

Intention

To live in the light of eternity in every decision we make.

Scripture

“When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, ‘Rabbi, when did you get here?’

Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.  Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.’”

– John 6:25–27

Reflection

When I read this verse recently, the word ‘eternal’ jumped out at me.

The context of the verse fits within a series of events. First, Jesus feeds the 5,000. Then He withdraws alone to a mountain. He knew the people who saw the miraculous sign intended to come and make Him king by force (John 6:15).

As evening came, His disciples stepped into a boat and set off for Capernaum without Him. It was dark and a storm hit (John 6:16–18). They had rowed in the wind and the waves for five or six kilometres before Jesus approached them.

When the disciples finally recognised Him, they let Him in the boat. “Immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading” (John 6:21).

In the meantime, those fed, back on the other side, were still searching for Jesus. They realised the next morning that neither He nor His disciples were around, so they too got into a boat and went across to Capernaum (John 6:24).

The story picks up with them asking, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” (John 6:25). Jesus, knowing their hearts, cuts to the core of the matter. They were not seeking Him for eternal things but for worldly reasons. He warns them “not to work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life” (John 6:27).

It is interesting to compare the journeys across the lake between Jesus’ disciples and those larger crowds. The first group was seeking the eternal. But the second group was seeking Jesus for worldly, temporal reasons. The first had a frightening journey of darkness, wild winds and waves. They had a life-threatening journey where even their first vision of Jesus was terrifying on the water. But the latter had sunshine, a great view and calm sailing.

Seeking the food that endures to eternal life is not calm sailing. When we choose obedience to Christ, it is often uncomfortable sailing.

I asked myself these questions: “How much do I consider eternity in every little decision I make in my home, my relationships and how I live my life? How many times do I choose the easy route, the one with less conflict, less sacrifice and where I have the most control?” If weighed in the balance, I fear I would be found wanting.

Arthur Stace was known as Mr Eternity in Sydney. He was a former drunkard and criminal before he came to Christ. Stace was interviewed in 1964 and asked, “What motivated you to write the word ‘Eternity’ on the streets of Sydney?”

Stace replied he felt compelled to do so after he sat in a church listening to Rev. John Ridley’s sermon. He was cut to the heart by these words, “Eternity, eternity, where will you be in eternity?”

We were created for eternity. Therefore, let us live as though eternity is our destination.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Even from eternity, You are the sovereign God, our Creator and Redeemer. There is none beside You and none who can deliver out of Your hand.

You have set eternity in our hearts, and no matter how much we ignore this fact, creation declares it day and night.

I confess I have not kept eternal, spiritual things at the forefront of my mind. But have focussed on the here and now, the transient things, the securities, the comforts and temporal luxuries of life. I humbly ask for Your mercy and forgiveness.

Help me to hold the things that are unseen and eternal as most important. May I never lose sight of Your calling upon my life.

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory forever and ever (1 Tim 1.17). Amen.

The Invisible Chains of Cultural Conformity | The Fight of Faith

We are likely more conformed to the age in which we live than we realize. Even those of us who stand firmly opposed to many of its most significant sins might still conform in other ways. We rarely recognize much of the worldliness around us because it is well-mannered and has an air of sophistication. That is the ungodliness we are most susceptible to.

G. Campbell Morgan once said, “Did you ever try to discover how you are almost compelled by the very character of the age in which you live to give hours of thought and attention every day to an enormous number of things you could very well do without—material things all of them, with no touch of spirit in them?”

By the phrase “giving hours of thought,” Campbell did not merely mean that they cross our mind, but that we care deeply about them. We pursue them and stake much of our fulfillment in them. In our day, a good example could be shelter and clothing. Both of these deserve our attention in life. It is not ungodliness to ensure we and our family have what we need in these areas. However, most of us are well beyond being concerned about necessities. In our day, we have turned both of these into status symbols. Even if we have what we need, we often strive for more because we are seeking the glory and affluence of the world.

When we are in such a frantic pursuit of the world’s recognition and novelties, Campbell says, “The old solemn hours of quiet aloneness with God that made the saints of the past are almost unknown.” Even our church services are not immune. Many people respond more to spectacle and sentimentality than the Word of God, and many church leaders are happy to oblige if it will help fill the pews. So now, not only do we not quiet our hearts before the Lord when we are alone, but even our corporate worship is no longer a refuge from the glitter and noise of the world. We often do not recognize it because our lungs are accustomed to breathing the same air.

What pursuits consumed much of your free time this week, and what ambitions drove much of your workweek? Where those motivations godly or driven by the spirit of the age. Indeed, the sacred-secular split held by many religious people is not biblical. All things can be done for the glory of God. Your work, whether customer service, physical labor, or knowledge work, can all be as God-glorifying as a pastor’s if it is what God has called you to do and you strive to do it with excellence. However, removing the sacred-secular split does not guarantee that all our work and motivations are godly. On the contrary, in the same way, we can do our secular work to the glory of God, we can be motivated in our sacred activities by man’s recognition. Yes, even our sacred activities can be worldly.

This world pulls us in many directions, and much of what pulls us are the invisible chains of cultural conformity. To paraphrase John Owen, when we are pulled in those worldly directions, it is not because these things have put anything into us. Instead, they draw out what is already in us. It is our sinful desires that give them their power over us.

Maybe it is time for us to look at our lives to discover how we are compelled by the very character of the age. None of us are perfect, so we must first look to Christ for our forgiveness and righteousness. The second thing we must do is seek to be conformed to his image more and more. This transformation can only be done by renewing our minds through the Word of God. Only then will we be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will. Until we spend time breathing the fresh air of God’s Word, we will not begin to recognize that some of the air we have been breathing is unhealthy.

Sinclair Ferguson: The Glorious End of Life in Christ – YouTube

In Christ, we find truth and life as we follow His way. His way has a final destination, and that is life in the glorious new heavens and new earth in the presence of God as we see Him face-to-face. In this message, Dr. Sinclair Ferguson looks at the final goal of the Christian life, the vision of God in a restored creation. He also considers some of the ways that following Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life today prepares us for the glorious end that God has prepared for those who love Him.

May 29 – Man Proposes but God Disposes | VCY

TODAY’S BIBLE READING CHALLENGE:
  2 Samuel 14:1-15:22
  John 18:1-24
  Psalm 119:97-112
  Proverbs 16:8-9

2 Samuel 14:3 — Interesting contrast between God’s words that Nathan conveyed to David and Joab’s words to the woman of Tekoah.

2 Samuel 14:5 — Because of today’s Secret Service protection, we’re not used to commoners having direct access to a high ranking government official. Abraham Lincoln, during the Civil War, was directly accessible by anyone who wanted to talk to him:

One aspect of White House life that made family life particularly difficult for the Lincolns was the mansion’s open-door policy to the public, war notwithstanding. Virtually from Lincoln’s first day in office, a crush of visitors besieged the White House stairways and corridors, climbed through windows at levees, and camped outside Lincoln’s office door “on all conceivable errands, for all imaginable purposes.”

Neither custom nor security precautions shielded the president from his voraciously demanding public. Office-seekers were the biggest drain on the presidents time and energy—among them, his wife’s own relatives—crowding the hallways all the way down the front stairs in an endless effort to importune him for lucrative government appointments.

2 Samuel 15:6 — Today, it’s hard to imagine such intense intra-family feuds that Absalom would seek to steal the hearts of Israelites away from his father. We don’t see Prince William trying to take the crown of his grandmother from King Charles. But as recently as World War I, we saw close relatives at war:

And at the center of this stage stood three cousins, King George V of Great Britain, Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, whose complicated family relationships partly fueled the international animosity that led to the horrors of The Great War.

http://theworcesterjournal.com/2014/08/22/family-feud-the-three-cousins-who-led-europe-into-the-first-world-war/

2 Samuel 15:8 — Ever notice how cavalier the leadership was to invoke God’s name in an act of subterfuge? Not just a generic term like El (God), but His covenant name YHWH (LORD). Saul swore by the LORD to the witch (1 Samuel 28:10), and David swore by the LORD to kill the rich man who took the poor man’s lamb (2 Samuel 12:5). Several of these may fall under violations of the Third Commandment.

2 Samuel 15:21 — Interesting that Ittai the Gittite was more loyal to David than David’s own son and his trusted counselor Ahithophel. Why? Thanks to Dexter Penwell for pointing this out:

“Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite …”

2 Samuel 23:34

Eliam is the son of Ahithophel … and Eliam had a daughter:

And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

2 Samuel 11:3

John 18:1 — Much of Jesus’ special times were east of Jerusalem in the area of the Mount of Olives.

John 18:15 — The Gospel writers hint at many of the political connections of the group. Even though John was part of Jesus’ inner circle, he may have still had connections/access to the palace of the high priest. John was the one who had access enough to get Peter into the courtyard. The Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary (JFB) discusses the issue with Acts 4:13.

John 18:21 — Jesus was invoking His “5th Amendment” right – the rabbinic right against self-incrimination obviously pre-dated the US Constitution by a few thousand years!

Psalm 119:97 — A great song based on this verse and this section of Psalm 119 is “Lord, How I Love Thy Law.”

Psalm 119:105 — This is the classic verse on the guidance of Scripture. Too often we keep the lamp on the shelf and walk in darkness.

Memorize this verse with Earl Martin:

Psalm 119:112 — Have you inclined your heart this way?

Proverbs 16:9 — The phrase “Protestant Wind” brings to mind some of the miraculous protections of England that occurred in her history. But on this side of the pond, we have our own version of the “Protestant Wind”. Consider the amazing protection of George Washington from Captain Patrick Ferguson, or when Washington was found with four bullet holes in his coat, and that was after he had two horses shot out from under him. Man proposes, but God disposes.

Word to Him Who Halts | VCY

I will save her that halteth. (Zephaniah 3:19)

There are plenty of these lame ones, both male and female. You may meet “her that halteth” twenty times in an hour. They are in the right road and exceedingly anxious to run in it with diligence, but they are lame and make a sorry walk of it. On the heavenly road there are many cripples. It may be that they say in their hearts—What will become of us? Sin will overtake us; Satan will throw us down. Ready-to-halt is our name and our nature; the Lord can never make good soldiers of us, nor even nimble messengers to go on His errands. Well, well! He will save us, and that is no small thing. He says, “I will save her that halteth.” In saving us He will greatly glorify Himself. Everybody will ask—How came this lame woman to run the race and win the crown? And then the praise will all be given to almighty grace.

Lord, though I halt in faith, in prayer, in praise, in service, and in patience, save me, I beseech Thee! Only Thou canst save such a cripple as I am. Lord, let me not perish because I am among the hindmost, but gather up by Thy grace the slowest of Thy pilgrims—even me. Behold He hath said it shall be so, and therefore, like Jacob, prevailing in prayer, I go forward though my sinew be shrunk.

Joy in the Midst of Trials | G3 MINISTRIES

sun setting over the mountains

Some passages timelessly encourage believers in the midst of trials. What follows is a quick look at three such passages—Romans 5:3–5, James 1:2–4, and 1 Peter 1:6–9. We briefly examine their common themes to encourage us today.

Trial

Both James and Peter speak of “trials” (peirasmos), a word that can focus on the aspect of testing in a trial (Jas1:2; 1 Pet 1:6). James speaks of “the testing of your faith” (Jas 1:2), and Peter, “the tested genuineness of your faith” (1 Pet 1:6). “Testing” and “tested genuineness” are translations of the same word (dokimion) and are related to the word “character” (dokimē), the result of such testing that Paul describes in Romans 5:4.

Paul refers to “sufferings” (thlipsis), focusing on a trial’s distressing nature (Rom 5:3). Peter similarly notes that trials can leave us “grieved” (1 Pet 1:6). Altogether, trials are grievous, distressing events allowed by God, meant to test our faith.

Joy

Joy in trial is indicative of a believer. Peter states, “In this [a trial] you rejoice” (1 Pet 1:6). “Rejoice” (agalliaō) is used again with a description that brings out the nuance of this verb—“you . . . rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory” (1 Pet 1:9).

Paul states more succinctly, “We rejoice in our sufferings” (Rom 5:3). Apart from this passage (Rom 5:2, 3, 11), this word for “rejoice” (kauchaomai) is translated “boast” (e.g., Rom 2:17, 23) and even “glory” (e.g., Phil 3:3). We boast and glory in suffering, knowing that God means it for our good.

Joy in the midst of trial is also imperative for the believer. James commands, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds” (Jas 1:2). “Count” means to think about something in a certain way. Believers must think of various kinds of unexpected trials as reason for all joy. While thinking this way should be indicative of who we are, we often fail to do so, thinking of our trials as something other than joy. We need the Spirit’s commands to counter our temptation to think this way and to view our trials correctly.

Sanctification

So how do we achieve the joy that Scripture declares and commands that we should receive in and from these trials? It comes from thinking correctly about why God gives us these trials. One reason why God gives us trials is for our present sanctification.

As we respond rightly in trial, Paul lists what suffering produces—“endurance . . . character . . . hope” (Rom 5:3–4). James likewise lists “steadfastness” and “its full effect,” being “perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” (Jas 1:3–4). These lists from Paul and James are progressive, one item progressing to the next. Trials teach us to persevere, prove our character, and live with Christian maturity and hope, whatever we might experience.

Peter generally speaks of “the tested genuineness of your faith” but seems to describe later what that genuineness looks like—loving the unseen Jesus Christ, believing in Him, and rejoicing with inexpressible, glorious joy (1 Pet 1:8). Persevering in trials is not simply gritting our teeth and gutting our way to their end. A true and tested faith focuses on Jesus in the midst of a trial and is marked by love, faith, and joy.

Reward

Another reason why God gives us trials is to assure us of future reward. As we persevere, we know reward will come, giving us joy right now. Paul speaks of “hope” (Rom 5:3–4), later specifying its source—we will “be saved by him [Christ] from the wrath of God” and we will “be saved by His life” (Rom 5:9–10). This hope of future salvation also stems from the knowledge of “God’s love” for us in Christ, made certain to us in “our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Rom 5:5).

Similarly, James says that “the man who remains steadfast under trial” is “blessed.” And why? “For when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (Jas 1:12). Peter likewise roots our inexpressible joy in the results of Christ’s return. At that time, “the tested genuineness of [our] faith . . . may be found to result in praise and glory and honor,” and we will receive “the outcome of [our] faith, the salvation of [our] souls” (1 Pet 1:8–9). Trials are sure to come. But trials should be for our joy. They are meant for our sanctification now, which assures us of our salvation that will come. So, in the midst of grief and distress, look to Jesus Christ, love Him, and rejoice that He will honor your faith when He gives full salvation to your soul.

Never Forget Why: Political and Historical Amnesia and Fantasy – YouTube

War is defined as an active conflict resulting in over 1,000 deaths. Throughout history, the world has rarely been at peace, with humans experiencing complete peace for only 268 out of the past 3,400 years. In the 20th century alone, over 108 million people died in wars, with total historical estimates ranging from 150 million to 1 billion. Today, 21.3 million people serve in the world’s combined armed forces, with China, the United States, and India having the largest militaries. As of early 2003, there were 30 ongoing wars worldwide. While no single gene causes war, aggression is influenced by biology and environment. The military is predominantly male, with 97% of personnel being men, although women have demonstrated their ability to fight effectively. Civilians often view war as honorable, and American public support for military actions starts high but typically decreases as casualties increase. The U.S. military has around 1.4 million active members, and more than 650,000 Americans have died in combat. The U.S. military also tends to inflict significantly more casualties on enemies than it suffers. Maintaining the American military has historically cost between 3% and 6% of the GDP. The U.S. is also the world’s largest arms exporter, significantly impacting global conflicts and American jobs. War remains extremely dangerous for civilians, with millions killed in conflicts throughout the 20th century and civilian casualties often constituting the majority in recent wars.

WATCH: Joe Biden’s Senior Moment of the Week (Vol. 95) | Washington Free Beacon

Old man honors Obama’s African roots, lashes out at ‘erectionists’

President Joe Biden hosted the president of Kenya at the White House this week and delivered a rambling speech about former president Barack Obama’s ties to the African nation. He lashed out at the “erectionists” who stormed the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, and thanked Hersh Goldberg-Polin for being “here with us” at the White House. (Goldberg-Polin, 23, is an American citizen being held hostage by Hamas.)

“We cannot get reelect. We cannot win this reelection,” Biden said. “Excuse me, we can only reelect Donald Trump.”

Happy Memorial Day! Have a great weekend!

Is America Still Worth Fighting For? – YouTube

To hear many of our elites tell the story, America is merely a colonialist, racist, oppressive product of unenlightened European men. Of course, this dishonors the service of all those who have given their lives to defend this country. We look together at the question: “Is America still worth fighting for?” — on this week’s “Truths That Transform.”

Impact of Bidenomics on Your Memorial Day Weekend: Prices Skyrocket Since 2021 | The Gateway Pundit

Americans will gather this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day in memory of those who gave their last full measure in service to this great nation. But each American will also find the costs for cookout staples soaring, thanks to the policies of President Joe Biden and his administration.

For those spending the day cooking at home, Americans are finding that the costs of supplies and foods have soared since Biden entered office thanks to his disastrous “Bidenomics” policies.

According to a report by Fox Business Network, prices are on the rise, jumping more than ten percent over the cost to feed an average family in 2023.

FBN added that, “Burgers jumped from $7.04 in 2023 to $8.07 in 2024, or a change of 14.63% in cost. Hamburger buns cost two cents more, from $3.04 on average to $3.06.”

The news outlet added that ketchup costs ten cents more than 2023, mustard is up eight cents, and pickle relish soared 50 percent over a year ago.

FBN also noted that Americans are being socked with a 20 percent rise for their average trip to the grocery since 2023.

As it was, the costs of a Memorial Day barbecue in 2023 was itself a jump over the previous years. At the time, Politico reported that the Consumer Price Index found food prices were up 7.7 percent.

Even more concerning, The Western Journal actually went in and crunched some numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and found stark price increases for two key Memorial Day staples.

Looking at the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers data provided, uncooked ground beef rose in price by 22 percent since 2021, while hot dogs shot up by 20 percent since 2021.

Those are not insignificant figures, especially as many Americans already feel suffocated by Bidenomics.

This is far from the first time that holiday costs are swamping us all, forcing us to pay more for less.

During the Fourth of July last year, for instance, the costs of our Independence Day also soared.

For instance, The American Farm Bureau Federation reported that the average cost to feed 10 people rose to $67.73 last year. In fairness, that was down three percent from the $69.68 seen in 2022, when inflation peaked at 9.1 percent in June 2022. Still, both 2022 and 2022 were up significantly up from 2021.

At the time, Wells Fargo reported that the cost of beer was up 8 percent; soft drinks, up 14 percent; bread, up 22 percent; ice cream, up 9 percent; processed cheese, up 10 percent; and potato chips were up 15 percent that year.

Later that year, the costs of Thanksgiving were also seen to cost far more under Biden than it had under Donald Trump.

The American Farm Bureau Federation recorded higher prices in 2023 over those seen in 2019 when Donald Trump was in office. The organization reported at the time that the cost of Thanksgiving prices soared by 25 percent under Biden.

The costs of buying candy for the costumed kiddies during last Halloween also scared Americans.

Costs soared 7.5 percent between Sept. of 2022 to Sept. 2023, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as KOMU-TV reported last year.

Of course, it isn’t just the costs of our holidays we are seeing on the rise. Everything we do, buy, and need is soaring under Biden. After all, Democrats ruin everything they touch.

Unfortunately, it does not seem that Joe Biden has much of a handle on what inflation is or what it is doing to us all. In fact, he keeps going around saying that the inflation rate was at 9 percent when he took over from Donald Trump, even though his absurd claim has been debunked time and again. It was actually only 1. 4 percent when he took office.

Even Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has admitted that his confidence has been shaken by the persistent inflation that is dogging the economy.

Biden has been costing us all more every year since he took office, but we do have a chance in Nov. to put an end to the soaring costs of everyday life.

In Touching Memorial Day Address, Biden Thanks Fallen American Servicemen For Their Votes | Babylon Bee

Article Image

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a moving speech to the nation on Memorial Day, President Biden thanked all the fallen American servicemen for voting for him in the last election.

“Today, we honor our fallen,” said Biden, since that was what the teleprompter had told him to say. “The men and women of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives for our great nation, and who then voted for me in 2020 despite being dead, deserve our humble thanks. Pause for silence but do not read these words as they are not part of the speech. End.”

Biden then stood rigid and silent for 12 minutes out of respect for the deceased before turning around to shake their hands.

Official records show approximately 100% of service members killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Persian Gulf war, Vietnam, The Korean War, WWII, WWI, The Apache Wars, The Navajo War, The Civil War, The War of 1812, The First Barbary War, and the Revolutionary War all vote for Democrats.

“We’re not surprised to see such loyal Democrat support from these patriots,” said Camilla Barnes, a community organizer in charge of collecting fallen servicemember votes in Georgia. “Such heroes would never vote for evil Republicans.”

At publishing time, Biden had finally ended his speech and given the stage to Kamala Harris, who began her address with a series of inappropriate cackles.

America In 2024: Fast Food Is A “Luxury”, 11 Million Children Live In Poverty, And 1000s Of Stores Are Closing | The Economic Collapse

Little by little, our standard of living has been eroding.  A couple decades ago, we had the largest and most prosperous middle class in the history of the world, but now most of the country is struggling.  At this point, fast food is considered to be a “luxury”, 11 million children are living in poverty, and thousands of stores are permanently shutting down all over the United States because consumers have so little discretionary income these days.  We are in the midst of a historic cost of living crisis, and those at the bottom of the economic food chain are being hit the hardest.

The ultra-wealthy don’t really care that food costs have been soaring, but for those that are barely scraping by from month to month it makes an enormous difference.

Once upon a time, fast food restaurants were where those that were struggling went to eat.

But now fast food is considered to be a “luxury” in 2024, and that is because fast food prices have gone absolutely haywire

A Big Mac sandwich at McDonald’s, for example, cost $3.99 in 2019. Now, that price has more than doubled to $8.29, according to Fast Food Menu Prices, an online tracker.

Gone, too, are the days of the $5 Footlong at Subway. A BLT Footlong that cost $5.50 in 2019 now costs customers $8.49 in 2024, though prices can vary by location. Additionally, Chipotle’s beloved chicken burrito that cost $6.50 in 2019 now runs customers $10.70.

Fast-food executives have pointed to rising wages and increased costs for ingredients as factors driving up the prices on their menus.

I am sitting here looking at those numbers and I still can’t wrap my head around them.

I never imagined that I would see the day when it took more than 8 dollars to buy a Big Mac.

That is insane!

A different survey that was recently conducted by Lending Tree discovered that almost 80 percent of all Americans believe that fast food is a “luxury item” now…

Nearly 80 percent of Americans now consider fast food to be a “luxury item” as families feel the squeeze from the Biden regime’s failing economy.

According to a survey from Lending Tree of around 2,000 adults, what was once considered an affordable option for low-income workers is fast becoming the opposite.

Meanwhile, the number of American children living in poverty continues to increase with each passing day.

If you can believe it, we are being told that over 11 million U.S. children are now living in poverty…

More than 11 million children were estimated to be living in poverty in 2021, according to U.S. Census Bureau data published by the Children’s Defense Fund.

That equates to around one in seven children in the U.S., or 15.3 percent. It’s a high toll, and one even higher than the adult population, which was 10.5 percent for 19-64 year olds that year and 10.3 percent for adults aged 65+.

According to an analysis by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, this difference is due to factors such as the “cost of caregiving and its responsibilities, transitions to a single parenthood household, unemployment of parents, and disabilities of family members.”

Today, approximately 40 percent of the entire country is considered to be either living in poverty or among the ranks of “the working poor”, and 42 million Americans are on food stamps.

We now have an absolutely gigantic “underclass” that is largely made up of people that were once solidly middle class.

The rapidly rising cost of living is just shredding families from coast to coast.

In Montana, one senior is incredibly frustrated because his property taxes have increased by 790 percent over the past several years…

A senior from Montana has delivered a viral speech about the sorry state of property taxes in the Treasure State.

“I’m on Social Security, I’m 68-years-old and working just to pay my taxes,” says Kurt, in a clip shared on TikTok by Ryan Busse, who is running to be the next governor of Montana.

Kurt claims that over the last couple of years, his annual property taxes have soared from $895 to almost $8,000 — an increase of around 790% — which he says is like paying almost “$700 a month rent to the state to live in our own house.” The state has an Elderly Homeowner/Renter Tax Credit, and the maximum credit is $1,150.

His property taxes have skyrocketed because property values have skyrocketed.

And property values have skyrocketed because our leaders flooded the system with way too much money.

Small businesses are being monkey-hammered by inflation as well.

In fact, one recent survey found that 86 percent of all U.S. small businesses say that they are being hurt by inflation…

An overwhelming majority of small business owners say they are being hurt by rising prices.

The new survey released Wednesday by small business network Alignable shows 86% reporting being hurt by high costs with only 6% saying they are thriving and not struggling.

Alignable surveyed more than 3,000 business owners from mid-April to mid-May and found that they overwhelmingly lament the burden of inflation.

Dollar stores in particular are being hit really hard by rising costs.

For example, 99 Cents Only has decided to close all of their stores because conditions have changed so dramatically…

For years, dollar stores were a fixture in nearly every strip mall in California, offering cheap household goods, bread and produce, and even toys and gifts.

But if it seems like your favorite dollar store is heading for the exit, you’re not wrong.

2024 may be their swan song.

In April, California-based 99 Cents Only announced it was closing all 371 locations after decades in business. The retailer blamed economic factors, including rising levels of “shrink,” inflation, and shifting consumer demand that has presented “significant and lasting challenges.”

Not to be outdone, Dollar Tree has announced that it will be closing about 1,000 stores

Dollar Tree, which owns Family Dollar, recently said it will close nearly 1,000 stores. That’s after Dollar Tree raised prices in the past couple of years for the first time in decades.

Overall, so far in 2024 retailers have already announced that they will be closing nearly 3,200 stores, and we haven’t even reached the mid-point of the year yet…

The retail industry is going through a tough time as it copes with inflation-weary consumers and a rash of bankruptcies, prompting chains to announce the closures of almost 3,200 brick-and-mortar stores so far in 2024, according to a new analysis.

That’s a 24% increase from a year ago, according to a report from retail data provider CoreSight, which tracks store closures and openings across the U.S.

The final countdown for the U.S. economy has begun, but most Americans do not even realize what is happening.

Most Americans just assume that our leaders can fix things by printing even more money and that conditions will “return to normal” eventually.

But the truth is that there isn’t going to be a “return to normal”, because this is about as “normal” as things are going to get.

It has taken decades of horrendous decisions to get us to this point, and now we are steamrolling toward economic oblivion.

If you think that our leaders in Washington will be able to turn this ship around, you are just being delusional.

Libertarian Party Chooses Openly Gay Former Democrat Chase Oliver as Its Nominee, Uses Victory Speech to Rail Against ‘Genocide in Gaza’ | The Gateway Pundit

The Libertarian Party has chosen 38-year-old Chase Oliver as its 2024 presidential nominee.

An openly gay former Democrat who once supported Barack Obama, Oliver used his victory speech to rail against the U.S. “war machine” and demand an end to the “genocide in Gaza,” according to the Washington Examiner.

After author Michael Rectenwald was eliminated from the race during Sunday night’s voting, the final vote was between Oliver and “none of the above,” in which he ultimately prevailed with around 60 percent support. He announced economist Mike ter Maat as his running mate.

Politico reports:

Oliver — who is aligned with a more traditionalist faction of the Libertarian Party, the Classical Liberal Caucus — clinched the nomination after almost 8 hours and seven rounds of voting. He defeated a more hard-line Mises Caucus candidate by less than 1 percent in the penultimate round of voting, before delegates were asked to choose between Oliver and no candidate.

Oliver said his foray into politics came as an anti-war protester in the early 2000s, and that he plans to target young voters angry about the Israel-Hamas war on college campuses, Twitch and TikTok.

“We were looking at who are the most likely populations to be ready to go outside of the two-party system, and we’ve identified young people, and in particular, those who are upset with the war going on in Gaza, upset with the immigration crisis, and upset with cost of living,” Oliver said. “Those are the young people that we’re going to target.”

Also on the ballot was independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr, although he was eliminated druing the first round of voting.

If Oliver had not been selected, the party would have faced difficulties getting a candidate on the ballot in November’s presidential election.

A former sales and HR executive, Oliver was a relatively obscure figure until his unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2022, when he won just two per cent of the vote.

According to his website, Oliver’s policies include open borders, promotion of gun rights, decriminlizaing drugs, low taxation and opposition to all U.S. involvement in foreign wars.

US soldiers celebrate victory on Iwo Jima in World War II

Happy Memorial Day 2024!

Today, more than at any other time in US history, we are in jeopardy of losing our country.
We have an Democrat administration that is:
** Persecuting the leading opposition candidate and former president with numerous lawfare cases
** Jailing Christian pro-lifers who sing hymns outside an abortion clinic
** Censored opposing voices like The Gateway Pundit who were speaking the truth – we are fighting back!
** Jailing Trump supporters for years without trial in dangerous prisons
** Jailing Trump supporters for allegedly disrupting Congress while leftist radicals are allowed to disrupt Congress on a weekly basis.

America today is under threat of a Marxist takeover!

Let us always remember – in the words of Ronald Reagan – “Freedom isn’t free and America is the last stand on Earth.”

Those words are more important today than any time in recent history.

It is a photo of 18,000 men preparing for war during World War I at Camp Dodge in Des Moines, Iowa…

If you haven’t seen this yet, I urge you to take the time to watch this moving video.

This is REALLY good…
