August 2 Peace Barriers

Scripture Reading: Psalm 23:1–6

Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:14

Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless.

Our quest for true peace begins at birth. As babies, we long for our mother’s comforting arms; as children we yearn for happy experiences that are void of fear; and as adults we strive to find success and fulfillment through jobs and relationships.

These pursuits are desirable, but temporal. Lasting peace cannot be attained through our own efforts, but rather through Christ in us. The peace that comes from Him is eternal.

If you have accepted Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and are not experiencing peace, it is time to examine your relationship with God. Your bond with Him is the foundation upon which real peace is built. Until you have peace with God, you cannot experience the peace of God.

What causes disruptions in our peace with God? “Peace barriers” are often composed of habitual sin, unresolved guilt, and unforgiveness toward others. Obstructions can also occur when we blame God for difficult circumstances, or when we decide to live in a state of rebellion against God’s truths.

If you are ready to experience true peace, ask God to expose anything that may be preventing you from receiving the peace that only He can give. Listen with an open heart and receive what God reveals to you through teaching, the Scriptures, or His own voice. When the barriers are removed, rejoice in His faithfulness.

Lord, I long for Your peace as surely as I have sought peace on my own throughout my life. Please show me the barriers to everlasting peace in my life.[1]

August 2 Spiritual Excellence

Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:13–15

Key Verse: Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

If you think that the way to become a better servant, live life for the Lord, is to try a little harder, think again. In his book Walking with Christ in the Details of Life, Patrick Morley explains,

The common sense way to make a bigger contribution focuses on strengthening skills. The Christ way focuses on the enabling Holy Spirit …

Spiritual excellence is not about ascending the ladder of leadership to greatness. It is about descending the ladder of humility to servanthood. Let’s face it. It is a difficult thing to be a leader and a servant at the same time, impossible without the Spirit …

The leader/servant is a man like John the Baptist. Though strong in personality and character, he understood his role. “He [Christ] must become greater; I must become less.”

Since learning that only the Holy Spirit can make one excellent, I have also discovered another secret. It is not that the Holy Spirit empowers a person to become more dynamic, eloquent, and persuasive—though all these might possibly come. Rather, it is that the Holy Spirit helps you to become nothing to yourself, you “become less.” Not servile, but a servant.

Don’t ask the Holy Spirit to increase your skill; ask Him to increase Christ. As Jesus becomes greater, your impact will enlarge, but because Christ is growing larger, not you.

Heavenly Father, help me understand the true meaning of spiritual excellence. Let Christ increase. Let me decrease. Make me a servant.[1]

Obstruction? There Was No Obstruction. — National Review

‘Trump–Russia collusion’ turned out to be a bad acid trip, although the attendant hallucinations still reverberate among fervent Democrats.

Democrats hallucinate Trump’s interference with the Russiagate inquiry

Notwithstanding last week’s catastrophic appearances by former special counsel Robert Mueller and House speaker Nancy Pelosi’s nervousness about impeachment, 118 die-hard Democrats (plus renegade former Republican Justin Amash of Michigan), are hell-bent on prying President Donald J. Trump from the White House, long before Election Day 2020. But for what? “Trump–Russia collusion” turned out to be a bad acid trip, although the attendant hallucinations still reverberate among fervent Democrats. As for obstruction of justice, there was none. Somebody should explain this to these Trump haters — perhaps with crayons and butcher paper.

Here’s what impeachment-grade obstruction looks like:

On June 17, 1972, the so-called White House “plumbers” illegally broke into the Democratic National Committee’s Washington, D.C., headquarters in the Watergate office complex to spy on President Richard Milhous Nixon’s opponents. Nixon and his top aides unlawfully funneled “hush money” to these criminals, in cash, so they would clam up rather than sing. They also pressured the CIA to tell the FBI, in Nixon’s words: “Stay the hell out of this.” Nixon six times asserted his presidential right to executive privilege and hid incriminating materials from scrutiny (not least Oval Office audio tapes of Nixon conspiring with his henchmen). This cover-up prompted Nixon’s resignation on August 9, 1974.

In contrast, Russiagate involved no underlying crime. According to the Mueller Report: “The Special Counsel confirmed that the Russian government sponsored efforts to illegally interfere with the 2016 presidential election but did not find that the Trump campaign or other Americans colluded in those schemes.”

Furthermore, Trump waived executive privilege. Consequently, “approximately 1.4 million pages of documents were provided to” Mueller, wrote Emmett Flood, then-special counsel to the president, to Attorney General William Barr on April 19. Trump, Flood added, “encouraged every White House staffer to cooperate fully with the SCO [Special Counsel’s Office] and, so far as we are aware, all have done so.” Among many others, these “voluntary interviewees” include senior adviser Jared Kushner, senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, and these former aides:

• Chief Strategist Steve Bannon

• Deputy Counsel Annie Donaldson

• Communications Director Hope Hicks

• Chief of Staff John Kelly

• Counsel Don McGahn

• Chief of Staff Reince Priebus

• Press Secretary Sarah Sanders

• Press Secretary Sean Spicer

Trump himself answered questions in writing, as his attorneys and Mueller negotiated. Mueller could have pressed to quiz Trump in person, but he did not. That was Mueller’s decision, not Trump’s dodge.

The top three Russiagate inspectors testified under oath that Trump never obstructed their efforts:

“At any time in the investigation, was your investigation curtailed or stopped or hindered?” Representative Doug Collins (R., Ga.) asked Mueller before the House Judiciary Committee on July 24.

Mueller: “No.”

“Were you ever fired as special counsel, Mr. Mueller?” Representative Debbie Lesko (R., Ariz.) asked.

Mueller: “No.”

Lesko: “Were you allowed to complete your investigation unencumbered?”

Mueller: “Yes.”

Former FBI director James Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 3, 2017, that he never felt political pressure to halt any inquiry, presumably including Russiagate.

“I’m talking about a situation where we were told to stop something for a political reason,” Comey said. “That would be a very big deal. It’s not happened in my experience.”

Former acting FBI chief Andrew McCabe also said that “there has been no effort to impede our investigation today.”

None of the president’s men defunded the Russiagate inquest. As McCabe told the Senate Intelligence Committee on May 11, 2017: “I know that we have resourced that investigation adequately.”

Despite this overwhelming proof of non-obstruction, these Democrats (and the independent Amash) still lust for Trump’s ouster. But they’ve got nothing. They look like 119 naked people trying to stage a fashion show.

“My personal view is that he [Trump] richly deserves impeachment,” House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler told CNN’s State of the Union on July 28. “He’s violated the law six ways from Sunday. But that’s not the question. The question is, can we develop enough evidence to put before the American people?”

Nadler has capsized the very concept of justice.

Officials seek evidence. If they find it, they present it at trial. If a jury convicts, only then is someone proved guilty of a crime.

Nadler’s approach is even worse than the old Soviet legal standard: guilty until proven innocent. By Nadler’s own admission, his new, sub-Soviet legal standard is: Guilty, with evidence TBD.

Nadler now craves grand-jury testimony. This is supposed to stay secret. Here’s why:

Imagine that Jack Jones is accused of beating his wife, Jackie. A grand jury hears confidential testimony and decides not to indict him. That’s it. End of story.

But what if an unhinged zealot like Nadler unsealed Jones’s file and spilled grand-jury testimony?

Wow! Jones loves to scream at his family. What’s this? He walks around all weekend in his bathrobe, unshowered and unshaved. Gross! One day, he yelled that Jackie’s cooking tastes like fried flat tires. Another time, when his son refused to clean up his room, Jack smashed little Johnny’s train set to smithereens. One night, Jack got really grumpy, grabbed his little girl Julie’s dollhouse, and grilled it on the barbecue. He even made the family’s yellow Lab sit there and watch. Walter, a good dog, was smart enough to stay quiet. Walter worried, What might Jack do next?

So, while Jack Jones broke no laws, and was not charged with domestic abuse, his friends, neighbors, coworkers, and clients learned that he is an ogre, a bully, a rotten dad, a nasty husband, and a total slob.

None of this behavior is admirable. But none of it is illegal.

Grand juries are not TMZ-style gossip factories. They only should weigh evidence and either indict or not indict. Period. That’s why their deliberations otherwise remain secret — forever.

Nadler has a Fordham University law degree, so he understands this. Indeed, on September 9, 1998, as President Bill Clinton’s impeachment loomed, Nadler tutored then-PBS host Charlie Rose on why Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure No. 6 has concealed such evidence since March 21, 1946.

“It’s grand-jury material,” Nadler said. “It represents statements which may or may not be true by various witnesses, salacious material, all kinds of material that it would be unfair to release.”

Alas, Nadler — like House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff (D., Calif.) — is so foam-at-the-mouth enraged that Trump defeated Hillary that the foam has flooded his brain. Nadler no longer thinks straight. Like Nadler, too many Democrats suffer a Captain Queeg-like obsession with impeaching Trump — never mind that the Mueller Report found no Trump/Russia collusion. Never mind that Mueller, Comey, and McCabe testified under oath that their Russiagate probes never were obstructed.

Democrats should find a new hobby.

Deep State Center Holds – John Ratcliffe Nomination Withdrawn… — The Last Refuge

The epicenter of the deepest defensive mechanism of the Deep State is the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI).  The SSCI is the bunker, the intelligence manipulation operations headquarters. The SSCI is where the political nuclear weapons (black files and IC gathered political surveillance research) are housed.  As a direct consequence the SSCI is the most corrupt and manipulative committee in all of congress.

President Trump has withdrawn the nomination of John Ratcliffe because both wings of the most corrupt deep state apparatus had formed a hardened defense in the SSCI:

Let me be perfectly clear.  The issue is the SSCI.

The weaponized issues of corrupt DC endeavors are always associated with the SSCI.   It is also not coincidental that ODNI Dan Coats was Senator Dan Coats…. and where was his tenured membership prior to becoming Director of National Intelligence?   Yup, the SSCI.

It always comes back to the SSCI.

The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence houses the entrenched Decepticons and Democrats who participate in oversight of the intelligence community, including their black arts.   It was through this committee where much of the opposition intelligence about candidate Donald Trump was relayed and shared.

Donald Trump was an outside candidate; a disruption in the global way of things.  He questioned NATO, he challenged “globalism”, he challenged the perpetual war machine.  In essence he was a risk.  Hence the SSCI aligned against candidate Trump and continued that opposition into the “insurance policy” phase to remove President Trump.

The pre-election operations of the SSCI is why the 2016 Vice-Chairman of the committee, Dianne Feinstein, abdicated her position as soon as Trump won the election.  She knew eventually the SSCI would be in direct confrontation with President Trump; and Feinstein knew what actions they had taken.  She didn’t want to stick around for the bloodbath.

Remember: “The SSCI is working closely with special counsel Robert Mueller”.  Remember: “The DOJ and FBI must not work with administration investigators”.

Enter Senator Mark Warner to take Feinstein’s place.   Yes, the same Vice-Chairman Warner who was caught conducting covert “rather not have a paper trail” communication with dossier author Christopher Steele through liaison/lawyer Adam Waldman:

The institution of the SSCI was/is a participant along with the FBI and DOJ soft coup plotters inside the “small group”.   The committee members were actively engaged and supportive of the agenda to remove President Trump.

That’s why all of the “small group” officials, those who participated in Spygate etc., always wanted to appear in front of the SSCI committee (Burr and Warner), and not in front of the House committee when it was chaired by Devin Nunes.

The SSCI participated in the small group corruption.

That’s why SSCI security officer James Wolfe threatened to subpoena the entire committee when he was caught in a sting operation leaking the Carter Page FISA warrant.  Wolfe was only carrying out the instructions of the Chairman and Vice-Chairman.   That’s why the DOJ dropped the charges against him for leaking classified information, and buried his actions behind a singular charge of lying to investigators.

The SSCI is the center of intelligence corruption.

Earlier this morning former ‘small group’ coup participant Rod Rosenstein sent a message to the SSCI to hold firm on not accepting anyone except Deep State Sue Gordon to replace Dan Coats.  In essence the message is don’t allow John Ratcliffe as DNI.  Notice how Rosenstein tags Richard Burr (and Graham)…

Knowing the SSCI has black files on their political opposition; gathered through years of surveillance using databases and monitoring; and knowing those files also extend to the immediate families of targeted politicians, Rosenstein’s signal in combination with the messages from Comey, Brennan and company, was crystal clear.

There was no path for John Ratcliffe to get through Senate confirmation when the Deep State interests are aligned against him.

(via NYT) On Thursday, Senator Mark Warner, Democrat of Virginia, who is the committee’s vice chairman, said the law was “pretty clear” that the acting role goes to the deputy when the director of national intelligence leaves. “This is something that’s very bipartisan,” Mr. Warner said. “Every member of the intelligence committee has enormous respect for Sue Gordon.”

[…] There appears little chance that the Senate, which is currently gone for its summer recess, will swiftly confirm Mr. Ratcliffe, in light of the bipartisan skepticism about his qualifications and questions about the honesty of his résumé. (NYT Link)

This is the way of the swamp.

Deconversion And Covenant Theology — The Heidelblog

In the wake of Josh Harris’ announcement of his apostasya group of leaders in the so-called Young, Restless, and Reformed movement (YRR) or New Calvinism has writtenof his “reconversion.” If one searches the history of Christianity one will probably not find the Fathers, Medievals, Reformers, or Protestant Orthodox theologians using this term since it seems to have entered the English language sometime in the early 1980s, in the sociology of religion, e.g., Anne Carson Daly, “Conversion and deconversion: A Spiritual Palimpsest,” Faith & Reason9 (Spr 1983) 32–38.*It became more prominent about a decade later in John D. Barbour, Versions of Deconversion: Autobiography and the Loss of Faith(Charlotttesville, University of Virginia Press, 1994). Since the early 2000s and especially in the last year or two the word seems to have gained traction in the evangelical and Reformed worlds, e.g., Michael Kruger, “Jen Hatmaker and the Power of De-Conversion Stories” (2018). The word is sufficiently novel or technical that it did not appear in the 3rd edition (revised) of the New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary(1993) nor does it appear in the more recent Oxford American Dictionary. When I have opportunity, I will consult the MOAD (Mother of All [English] Dictionaries), the Oxford English Dictionary (OED).

A New Problematic Term

Suffice it to say that the term deconversionis fairly new but is the idea? Yes and no. In the broad sense of what is implied in the word deconversion, no. Broadly, the word suggests or connotes apostasyfrom the Christian faith. This is not a new idea at all. The word apostasydoes not occur often in English translations of Scripture. The RSV uses “apostasy” to translate a Hebrew noun (מְשׁוּבָה) in Jeremiah 2:19 and 5:6 and in Hebrews 6:6 to translate a Greek verb (παραπίπτω), which verb occurs in the LXX (a Greek translation of the Old Testament, which influenced the NT) in Ezekiel 14:13; 15:8; 20:27 in the sense of apostasy, to fall away and in the early Christian epistle 1 Clement 51:1. In these cases the sense is that falling away from the practice and confession of the revealed faith or religion.

There is, however, a potential problem with the term deconversion. As it happens I did some work earlier this summer on the tern conversionfor a forthcoming reference work. I was impressed with some of the difficulties attached to the word. For one thing, when the Reformed use the word “conversion,” they tend to mean one thing and when Evangelicals, who have a background in the revivalist traditions, use the word they tend to mean something rather different. The Reformed use the word in two senses. In the first sense, it refers to those who have been granted new life (regeneration) and true faith, and who, by the Holy Spirit, are united to Christ. We use the word in this sense in Heidelberg Catechism 84 where we distinguish between “unbelievers and hypocrites” on the one side and those who are “converted” on the other. In Heidelberg 88–90, however, the Reformed speak of conversion as a synonym for sanctification and the Christian life. In that sense it is a lifelong process of mortification(dying to sin) and vivification(being made alive to Christ). In the first sense, there are those who are converted definitively and those who are not. In the second sense, however, no believer is fully converted (i.e., sanctified) in this life. It was in that sense that Caspar Olevianus, one of the contributors to the catechism, said that believers are never completely regenerate in this life. Read more»

August 2 The Real War

Scripture reading: Psalm 140:1–8

Key verse: Colossians 2:15

Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

War is gruesome, agonizing, isolating, and often terrifying. Ask any veteran about his experiences in combat, and he will probably tell you stories that make you shudder. As horrible as open conflict with weapons can be, imagine how much worse a war would be if the enemy were invisible.

The truth is, each day you’re in the middle of an ongoing spiritual war, and you can’t even see the enemy with your physical eyes. There aren’t many verses in the Bible that give details about the ways that Satan and his followers manifest themselves, but we do know that they are spirits, fallen angels. As eternal enemies of God, they are committed to disobedience and rebellion, and they delight in assisting us in making wrong choices.

First Peter 5:8 gives this warning: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may.” But Christ has defeated him already at the cross, and you can claim His victory anytime you are assailed by spiritual enemies.

Are you aware of spiritual warfare? You need to be. Of course, the Lord does not want you focused on this realm improperly; your primary attention is to be given to your relationship with Christ. But the believer who is informed about spiritual battles is prepared when they come.

Help me be sober in spirit, dear Lord. Keep me alert to the tactics of the enemy who would seek to devour me spiritually.[1]

Healing the Racial Divide in America: Powerful Lessons from Franklin Graham and Ben Kinchlow | CBNNews.com

Accusations of racism are being hurled around the political landscape on a daily basis these days, usually aimed at President Trump and anyone who supports him.

In the past few weeks, media outlets have directly labeled Trump as “racist” in wall-to-wall coverage of his comments about Baltimore and Rep. Elijah Cummings, or the so-called “Squad” of four minority congresswomen, dispensing with the usual journalistic pleasantries like “alleged racism” or “controversial comments”.

Racism is clearly a serious problem still in America. Since Trump’s comments are all the rage, literally, evangelist Franklin Graham was asked to weigh in on the issue.

An Associated Press reporter asked if he thought President Donald Trump’s tweets exposed him as a racist. Here’s what Graham replied:

“I told him that I wanted to be clear—the President is not a racist. As others have pointed out, the Left has weaponized that word, and devalued it, using it all the time against anyone who disagrees with them. We need to pray for the President and for all of our leaders,” he said.

Then the son of famous evangelist Billy Graham, who helped tear down racial barriers in his own time, took it a step further, offering the solution for racism in America.

“The real cure for the racial divide in our country is for hearts to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ,” Franklin Graham concluded.

That brings us to our next point. This week the CBN family said farewell to Ben Kinchlow, holding a special memorial service for the man who had been an iconic co-host of The 700 Club alongside CBN Founder Pat Robertson.

That all started in the early 1970s, on the heels of the 60s race riots, at a time when the racial divide in America was still very fierce. “He broke through a color barrier on daily TV,” CBN CEO Gordon Robertson explained on the 700 Club Friday.

It wouldn’t have happened without the power of God, because Kinchlow had become disillusioned by the racism he personally experienced in America, which filled his heart with anger and drove him to follow Malcolm X.

“Then God got a hold of him, and he became a great witness of what could happen,” Robertson continued.

“Who does God pick him to pair with? [Pat Robertson], the son of a Democratic senator, my grandfather, who was part of the whole massive resistance to desegregation in the South,” Robertson explained.

“And here comes Ben Kinchlow, on a daily program, holding hands with a white man, and saying, ‘Let’s pray together, and let’s pray to Jesus,'” Gordon said. “What a great testimony of what can happen with the cross.”

That unlikely pairing of the born-again son of a Democratic segregationist and an ex-Malcolm X follower truly puts a face on the kind of racial healing Franklin Graham is calling for – the kind that can only come when “hearts to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Need proof?

Just look at the amount of time and effort leftists put into trying to make literally everything racist.

No, but seriously wtf. There’s no bottom to the intellectual abyss that is Liberalism. Yikes.

One man has had enough with the “everything is racist” arguments and he’s responded to them with a hilarious video.

Twitter user Hotep WithIt posted a video this week that will definitely brighten anyone’s day who is fed up with the constant racism talks.

“Everything is racist,” he says in the video. “It’s all racist. If it’s white, it’s racist. That’s where we’re at right now.”

He then proceeds to point out white objects in his home and calls them racist. The objects include paper, a fridge, and coffee mugs.

At one point he points out that not only is a white plate racist, but so is the leftover sour cream on a spoon.

“Oh my God, not only is the plate racist, but the sour cream on this f***ing spoon is racist!” he says.

At the end of his video, Hotep WithIt turns to the camera and says, “That’s how stupid ya’ll motherf***ers sound.”

Check out the video below:

This is how stupid you muhfuckas that parrot Liberal media sound #StayWithIt #MAGA pic.twitter.com/Z25DTIXSLR

— Hotep WithIt (@istaywithit93) August 2, 2019

Plenty of Twitter users have responded positively to the video.

“I don’t see the hostility in real life and I interact with a lot of people on a daily basis. To me, it shows the fake news has earned the name. Of course I know it exists, just not as bad as portrayed by media. I have hope. A lot of hope,” one user wrote.

Another responded by saying, “To Liberals, everything is race, gender, age groups, sexual preference, and religion. Conservatives just see other Americans.”

“As a white girl (English and Irish, so like, really white) I want to thank you for saying this s***. I’m so tired of seeing people tell us we’re racist. Now, I don’t get offended, bc being offended is a choice, and to me, it’s a dumb one, but I worry about white kids’ futures,” replied another.

And another wrote, “When I go to the gym, I wear black tights, and my favorite workout coach is also black. But me? I’m white. Dang. I know somehow that’s racist. I will apologize for my racism daily. Thank you for helping me see the light. (But is the light white? Or black? GAAAAAAAHHHHH!).”

The video follows a shockingly stupid report from CNN that questioned whether robots designed with white colors are racist. Yes, seriously.

Have you ever noticed the popularity of white robots? The reason for these shades of technological white may be racism, according to new research. https://t.co/PHJHO91VtA

Have you ever noticed the popularity of white toilets? Or is CNN too busy sourcing material from them to care? https://t.co/9kVXmoZOGI

— Steven Crowder (@scrowder) August 1, 2019

The video is also being dropped in the middle of leftists screaming about Donald Trump being a racist for his critiques of lawmakers like Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD).

The left has taken away almost all meaning from the word racist. In a world where actual prejudice exists, it is sad to see privileged liberals use the word as basically a marketing tool. The word is thrown out so carelessly at this point, that matters of real racism cannot get the attention that they should.

Korey Wise, Exonerated Member of the Central Park Five, Says ‘I Find Myself Laughing’ at NYPD Pushing to Prosecute People for Throwing Water on Officers But Fails to Prosecute Police Who Wrongfully Kill Black Men — BCNN1 – Black Christian News Network

Emerald Garner speaks at the fifth anniversary of her father’s death at Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, on July 30, 2019. She is joined by her brothers, Emery and Eric Garner Jr.; her mother, Esaw Snipes Garner (not pictured); Korey Wise, one of the exonerated Central Park Five; Ilyasah Shabazz (back left), daughter of Malcolm X, and actor, rapper, dancer Sean “ARNSTAR” Kirkland (back center). | The Christian Post/Leonardo Blair

With a flicker of rage and incredulity, Korey Wise, the oldest of the exonerated Central Park Five, said the aggressive push to prosecute people for dousing NYPD officers with water while failing to prosecute officers who wrongfully kill and brutalize residents is hypocrisy.

“I find myself laughing because of this latest news with this water situation. With police getting wet up,” Wise said Tuesday night to an approving crowd that gathered at the historic Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem.

They were there to mark the fifth anniversary of the controversial death of Eric Garner, a New York father of six who died in the summer of 2014 after he was placed in a chokehold by NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was not criminally indicted.

A week earlier, widespread condemnation and calls for justice came from voices as powerful as Vice President Mike Pence over viral videos that surfaced showing NYPD officers being doused with water by residents in Harlem and Brooklyn. Several arrests have already been made while state lawmakers have proposed legislation to make it a felony to throw water on officers.

“They looking for the kids and this and that, but how about the police then? How about the police? Water, it’s hot. Calm down. Enjoy your summer! But you want this kid with the water instead of the police who choked Eric Garner. Something to think about,” he said.

Wise was 16 years old when he and four other teenagers were coerced into confessing to the brutal rape of a white woman in the city’s famous park in 1989. All were wrongfully convicted of the crime.

The four younger boys, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam and Raymond Santana served their time in juvenile facilities before being transferred to adult jails at age 21. Wise, who “had hearing problems from an early age, and a learning disability that limited his achievement in school,” according to  Sarah Burns in her book, The Central Park Five, suffered immensely.

While in police custody, officials questioned Wise throughout the night and persuaded him to produce four different statements — two written and two videotaped confessions.

Race Hustle

When the shining city is at hand, a special slum will be built for me and my meanness. I will be the person, if that’s what I am, in the slum; there will be one of everything; one rat, one tin can. … I will behave poorly.

– Thomas McGuane, Ninety-two in the Shade

After two double rounds of Democratic Party debates, one thing is for sure: the characters onstage are followers, not leaders, and they’re following each other off a cliff like so many Wile E. Coyotes, while the Golden Golem of Greatness streaks, beeps, and tweets across the buzzard flats below like the fabled Roadrunner.

In an epic and bizarre case of mimesis, the Democratic Party is mau-mauing itself into America’s political slum, complete with a rank-and-file demographic dependent on government largesse and an infestation of bad ideas, like the scurrying rats and cockroaches of the ghettos they pander to so relentlessly. The candidates themselves are so terrified of being a few syllables away from getting branded with the scarlet “R” on their foreheads — according the to the rules of Wokesterism — that they blindly submit to any idiotic Simon Says command, such as raising their hands in support of free medical services for illegal immigrants, to signal their racial uprightness and sensitivity.

How are the actual city ghettos and their denizens doing after half a century of Democratic Party rescue operations? Not so well, the Golden Golem averred last week about Baltimore, igniting a firestorm of grievance and objurgation from the political ghetto. Isn’t the point exactly that the people, and the place where they live, are not doing any better despite decades of federal programs, household assistance, affirmative action, and every other attempt to (theoretically) improve their existence? And isn’t the heart of the matter the desperate shame and chagrin of Democrats that none of this has worked?

It hasn’t worked… so, do more of it! That’s the Democratic Party’s neurotic strategy for winning the hearts and minds of this republic. Driving men out of households via the welfare rules that don’t allow “a man in the house,” and destroying family formation wasn’t bad enough. The Democratic party has spent the past three years vilifying and demonizing men and their “toxic masculinity,” and retailing the insane multiplication of “genders’ in a bad faith attempt to manufacture sexual “diversity” — with the net effect of negating all previous understandings of the relations between men and women.

Newsflash: that’s not going to work, either.

The shriekings of “racism” aren’t helping much anymore. Few observers have missed the fact that the city of Baltimore has been run by an African American city hall (Mayor, Police Chief, District Attorney) for many years, with over a billion dollars in additional federal assistance. So, if political power is the answer, how’s that working out? Add some extra shrieking about “white privilege” to explain the situation? How does “white privilege” explain the fact that 86 percent of kids in Baltimore primary schools can’t read and 89 percent can’t do arithmetic to grade level? This, despite the fact that at $15,564 per pupil, Baltimore is fourth highest per student of the 100 largest school districts in the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Maybe becoming the party of a national race hustle isn’t such a good idea. The race hustle is wearing out its welcome in American politics, and the more the Democratic Party resorts to race hustling as its chief strategy, the sooner the party will go extinct. That is, if it doesn’t incite some kind of civil war first. Cue the cry, “That’s racist!”

Maybe there is a whole range of human values and human behaviors that have nothing to do with race — like reading to small children and helping them learn the English language so they don’t grow into adults who have to say “know what I mean?” every other sentence because they’ve barely acquired enough language skill themselves to know what they mean. Maybe there’s something called an American common culture that contains values and behaviors worth emulating rather than opposing. Maybe “multiculturalism” wasn’t such a good idea after all. Maybe ghetto culture is not such a precious foundation for a successful life. Maybe the Democratic Party should move out of the ghetto it’s built for itself.

PUBLISHER’S NOTE

August Break Next Week

Fortunately, Congress has adjourned for its August recess, though the din of the Beltway Demo/Leftmedia rancor will take no holiday. Because The Patriot Post operates on a very tight budget, both in terms of manpower and financial resources, our content and quality would suffer if we were a man down for many weeks throughout the year in order to provide individual staff leave time. Thus, as we all need a break from the rigors of relentless publishing deadlines, we pause our operations for a week in August so all of our editorial staff can take the same week off.

Of course, our Right Opinion and Top Headlines sections will be updated throughout the coming week, and our Patriot Humor edition will be delivered on schedule Monday, and you’ll hear from Mark Alexander Wednesday. (If you’re not subscribed to Patriot Humor or Alexander’s Column, log in to your account and select those options.) We’ll be back on our regular publication schedule on Monday, Aug. 12.

There might be something to ‘deal of the century’ after all
The Palestinian position is being criticized more and more in the Arab world, both on social media and by journalists and bloggers. Even some politicians are expressing such views – which would have been unthinkable just a decade ago. The outline of the deal is being revealed bit by bit. It is not just the economic plan whose gist was presented at the Bahrain summit in June. There is no Palestinian statehood in the “deal of the century,” only autonomy, as U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, a silent member of the administration’s Mideast peace team, has revealed. Friedman warned the Palestinians that the Clinton, Olmert, Kerry and Obama proposals are no longer on the table.

2 tropical waves on horizon: one has 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression; closer storm could bring weekend rain to Florida
A tropical wave in the west Atlantic gained strength and has a 70 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression over the next five days, while another threatens rain over the weekend, the National Hurricane Center said Thursday morning. The tropical wave in the mid-Atlantic Ocean has continued to gain strength as it traverses through a “corridor of favorable conditions” for tropical development about 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, said WOFL-Fox 35 meteorologist Jayme King. The storm is moving through an area of warm, moist air and low wind shear giving it a strong chance of organization and growth into a powerful system.

World’s First Ever Human-Monkey Hybrid Reportedly Grown in China — BCNN1 – Black Christian News Network

Scientists have successfully formed a hybrid human-monkey embryo – with the experiment taking place in China to avoid “legal issues”.

Researchers led by scientist Juan Carlos Izpisúa spliced together the genes to grow a monkey with human cells.

It is said the creature could have grown and been born, but scientists aborted the process.

The team, made up of members of the Salk Institute in the United States and the Murcia Catholic University, genetically modified the monkey embryos.

Researchers deactivates the genes which form organs, and replaced them with human stem cells.

And it is hoped that one day these hybrid-grown organs will be able to be translated into humans.

Project collaborator Estrella Núñez hailed the experiment as “very promising”.

Interpreter Valarie Holmes portrays Angela, one of the first enslaved Africans to arrive in Virginia, at Historic Jamestowne on March 30, 2019. RNS photo by Adelle M. Banks

JAMESTOWN, Va. (RNS) — Wearing a yellow headwrap, gray skirt and soiled apron, a woman who says she is “called by the name of Angela” stood by the James River and told her story, one of faith and courage, darkness and hope.

“Every day, I rise,” said interpreter Valarie Holmes in late March on her first day portraying an enslaved woman forcibly brought to Virginia 400 years ago. “And then I ask: ‘Great Spirit, speak to me and give order to my thoughts, my words, my hands, my feet this day.’”

A group of dozens of visitors to Historic Jamestowne, the preserved site of the first permanent English settlement in the U.S., listened on the windswept banks of the river as Holmes spoke, including snippets of faith in her story.

The presentation is just one of many ways Americans are commemorating the 400th anniversary of the arrival of “taken people,” as Holmes calls the first documented Africans who arrived against their will in Virginia.

About 12.5 million Africans were transported and sold during the trans-Atlantic slave trade from the 16th to the 19th centuries. More than 300,000 were shipped to the U.S., historians estimate. The 1860 U.S. Census recorded a U.S. slave population of close to 4 million. The Emancipation Proclamation officially freed some Southern slaves in 1863 but many blacks remained enslaved until 1865.

Archaeologists continue to work to find out more about the places where Angela and other enslaved people were brought and details of the lives they led.

Holmes’ interpretation attempts to fill in the gaps even as she and scholars of this time in history say the specifics of Angela’s faith — and that of many other enslaved Africans brought to the U.S. — remain a mystery.

But experts say that she was nevertheless a believer of some sort.

“Angela, being someone who was taken from her homeland, having crossed oceans, being in a captive situation on strange land, displaced from everything that she knew — I would think, yes, she’s a woman of faith,” said Lauranett Lee, who moderated a recent scholarly conference titled “Faith Journeys in the Black Experience: 1619-2019” co-convened by Virginia Union University’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology.

Holmes depicts Angela as a Catholic. Some 20 percent of African slaves were Muslim, historians estimate. Others practiced local, traditional religions.

“There’s going to be a mix because even those who arrived here were not specifically from the same area, the same tribe,” added Lee, a University of Richmond lecturer and the founding curator of African-American history at the Virginia Historical Society. “They were caught up in kidnapping and slave-trading nets and the slavers themselves did not want too many individuals from the same group to be together because then they could communicate.”

In Holmes’ 45-minute presentation, Angela spoke of Catholic priests who were among the “trespassers” in her homeland, the kingdom of Ndongo in what is now the west-central African country of Angola.

She said she was grabbed, gagged and marched some 100 miles to a pen in the Portuguese slave port of Luanda. Later, she was taken to a ship where she was chained to other captured Africans.

“All I kept hearing was ‘Bautista! Bautista’!” she said. “And I thought, John the Baptist! That cannot be good to go on a ship called John the Baptist!”

NYT, WaPo Op-Eds Blast Dem Candidates After Trump Once Again Makes Them Embrace Race-Baiting Extremist — The Gateway Pundit

A couple weeks ago, President Trump took aim at “The Squad” — Reps. Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.

The Democratic Party quickly unified, with members coming to their defense and lauding them for their work.

Then Trump ripped Baltimore as a rat infested hellhole, also hitting Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings, the city congressman. That brought more Democrats out to defend the city and claim Trump is racist.

Those racism charges immediately brought out race-baiter Al Sharpton, who, true to form, Trump promptly blasted. And once again, top Democrats were forced to rally around the target of Trump’s ire.

Finally, some political pundits are starting to catch on to the strategy.

In a New York Times op-ed earlier this week, Brown University economics professor Glenn Loury hit Democrats for defending Sharpton.

“They’ve handed Trump an easy win and yoked themselves to a genuine bigot,” he wrote. “The problem for Democrats is that Al Sharpton actually is, as Mr. Trump put it on Twitter, ‘a con man.’ And not just a con man: Mr. Sharpton is an ambulance-chasing, anti-Semitic, anti-white race hustler.”

“His history of offensive statements is longer than the current American president’s. And Mr. Sharpton’s worst sin — his blatant incitement to violence during the Crown Heights riots of 1991 — leaves no doubt that he is not a leader, as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio described him, who has spent his years ‘pushing for justice in the teachings of Dr. King.’ “

This is a losing strategy. Progressives have been bluffing on the race issue for years now: downplaying black-on-black urban violence, ignoring the polarizing effects of racial identity politics, maintaining a code of silence on the collapse of the black family and more. Mr. Trump knows it.

If Democrats cannot distinguish between Mr. Sharpton’s hucksterism and genuine moral leadership on race and justice in America, I assure you that many moderate voters in battleground states will have no trouble doing so. Shouting “racist” at Mr. Trump, even if there is truth to the accusation, will gain Democrats nothing. The president cannot be further damaged by that epithet. Meantime, he wins votes every time a prominent Democratic politician overreacts to his provocations by defending the indefensible.

Over at the Washington Post, another writer hit Democrats for embracing Sharpton.

Citing the endorsement of the three top Democrats, Seth Mandel, executive editor of the Washington Examiner magazine, writes: “Sharpton is unworthy of such praise, so much so that the decision to back him reflexively is a massive moral demerit. Calling Sharpton a lifelong fighter for “justice” ignores his history of race-baiting and deadly anti-Semitic incitement.”

We are routinely told that harsh criticism of minority members of Congress amounts to incitement to violence. What of Sharpton, who initially made his career out of explicit incitement to violence? This is no idle concern. “The increase in the number of physical assaults against Orthodox Jews in New York City is a matter of empirical fact,” reports Armin Rosen at Tablet. “Anti-Semitic hate crimes against persons, which describes nearly everything involving physical contact, jumped from 17 in 2017 to 33 in 2018, with the number for the first half of 2019 standing at 19, according to the NYPD’s hate crime unit. … And yet, many believe the attacks are even more widespread than has been reported.” De Blasio claims anti-Semitism is a right-wing phenomenon, but in New York, Rosen writes, “the perpetrators who have been recorded on CCTV cameras are overwhelmingly black and Hispanic.”

You can believe that Jewish lives matter, or you can pepper your public career with slavish fan fiction about Al Sharpton. When the sun sets on the careers of this crop of Democrats and their stories are written, what will the record show about the choice they made?
