Revisited Would the Son of God Contradict the Father?
Is it true that Jesus never mentioned anything about homosexuality? That He never brought it up, even once? Most of us have heard the argument that the Gospels have no record of Jesus condemning homosexuality. There are individuals, especially from the militant homosexual rights movement, who utter this fabrication with all the raw hostility of liberals who think abortion is their God given right.

Remember, it is disputed whether the chokehold applied was one the NYPD has banned. It is quite possible that Pantaleo used a different technique, or that he assaulted Garner with nothing like the intensity or duration of the prohibited chokehold. If that is the case, it could credibly be argued that Pantaleo did not use deadly force….

They ought to get together with the flatworms at Occupy Wall Street, who want to abolish work. No police, no jails, no work. That ought to be a nice society to live in. Apparently “racial justice” consists of being allowed to be a predator upon your neighbor–take his stuff, take his life, no one will interfere. Although if no one is working, soon there won’t be any stuff worth taking. …

Sea level rise threatening Kennedy Space Center in Florida
Rising seas and pounding waves driven by climate change are chipping away at the coast near the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, threatening launch pads and future operations, scientists said on Friday. “There’s reason to be nervous now because the problem is so obvious,” Peter Adams, a geology professor at the University of Florida, told Reuters. Adams and fellow University of Florida geologist John Jaeger released their findings on a day when the space center on Florida’s east coast was celebrating a successful first test launch of the Orion capsule designed to one day fly astronauts to Mars. Additional 1,000 US troops to stay in Afghanistan
An additional 1,000 US troops will remain in Afghanistan next year to meet a temporary shortfall in NATO forces, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Saturday during a visit to Kabul. President Barack Obama approved the move despite an earlier plan to limit the US force to a maximum of 9,800 troops in 2015. A protracted Afghan election delayed the signing of security deals with the United States and NATO countries, which set back plans for Western governments to contribute troops to the post-2014 mission, Hagel said. America is on a “Hot War Footing” House Legislation Paves the Way for War with Russia?
America is on a war footing. While, a World War Three Scenario has been on the drawing board of the Pentagon for more than ten years, military action against Russia is now contemplated at an “operational level”. Similarly, both the Senate and the House have introduced enabling legislation which provides legitimacy to conduct a war against Russia. We are not dealing with a “Cold War”. None of the safeguards of the Cold War era prevail. There has been a breakdown in East-West diplomacy coupled with extensive war propaganda. In turn the United Nations has turned a blind eye to extensive war crimes committed by the Western military alliance. More

Even the Labor Department can’t explain the latest job report
A quick glance at the November employment report will give you the impression that the job market had suddenly taken flight. But look at the report more closely — as you should always do with all government statistics — and you’ll see a problem. And it’s a problem that even the Labor Department was having trouble figuring out on Friday. Wall Street, of course, loved the 321,000 new jobs that Labor said were created in November. And I’m sure people looking for a job were equally thrilled. Hell, I was giddy until I dug deeper into the figures. As it turns out, last month’s job growth was much more ordinary than the headline figure would have you believe — and it all lies with the seasonal adjustments Uncle Sam sprinkles onto all its data. Why Angelina Jolie’s ‘Unbroken’ May Disappoint Christian Moviegoers
Angelina Jolie’s highly anticipated film Unbroken features the true story of an Olympian and World War II veteran who was only able to extend forgiveness to his captors after he encountered Christianity. The problem? The Christianity that is central to Louis Zamperini’s life is almost entirely absent from the film. That could prove a disappointment to Christian viewers who read the best-seller by Lauren Hillenbrand that spawned the film, or who have been courted by the filmmakers to see the film, which opens in theaters on Christmas Day. The question is whether Hollywood can lure faith-based audiences with a story that’s based on faith but doesn’t pay much attention to it, especially against the blockbuster biblical epic Exodus, which opens on Dec. 12. Processed Foods and Ingredients You Need to Avoid
1. Artificial ingredients
This includes both synthetic dyes (like FD&C Red No. 40, Tartrazine, or Blue No. 1) and artificial sweeteners (like saccharin, aspartame, or sucralose). When you look at the history of food artificial ingredients haven’t been around all that long, and I don’t know about you, but I am not interested in being the guinea pig here. Plus the fact that artificial dyes require a warning label in many countries outside of the U.S. is enough of a deal breaker for me.
Instead: Look for dyes that come from natural sources (like paprika, saffron, or annatto) or forget the coloring all together (it’s only for aesthetics). When it comes to sweeteners pick those that come from natural sources (like honey, maple syrup, and even sugar) over the artificial stuff, but always consume them in moderation (see #2).
2. Refined sweeteners
It’s not that refined sweeteners themselves (like sugar) are the devil, but the quantity in which sweeteners are consumed these days is honestly the scary part. Sugar (or corn syrup or cane juice or brown rice syrup or whatever creative name is on the label) is no longer reserved for truly special occasions anymore, and instead is lurking in yogurts, breads, crackers, flavored oatmeal, beverages, and even innocent-looking salad dressings.
Instead: Rely on natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup since they are mostly “processed” in nature and at least contain some trace nutrients. BUT it’s important to remember that “sugar is sugar” no matter what you choose. So even if you go the more natural route (which is recommended!) that by no means gives you the green light to turn up the bottle. It’s also helpful to buy foods “plain” (like yogurt, oatmeal, etc.) and sparingly sweeten them yourself to make sure things don’t get out of hand. More

Rick Warren’s Call for Christians to Unite With Catholics, ‘Holy Father’ Raising Concerns

Religion and Relationships in America
A new study reveals that religion still has a profound effect on shaping Americans views on sex, relationships and family. The Relationships in America study, produced by the Austin Institute, looks at “how social forces, demography, and religion continue to shape attitudes about family and intimate relationships.” Here are just a few of the many intriguing statistics in the report:
Americans Are Still Religious
Two out of every three (66 percent) Americans still identify with some form of Christianity, with Evangelicals comprising the largest subgroup of Protestants (8.7 percent of the population). Mainliners (3.2 percent) are now fewer than Pentecostals (3.3 percent). About 27 percent of Americans report attending church weekly (on average), and women still dominate: there are 115 women for every 100 men (ages 18-60) at the average Christian worship service.
Religion and Education
The survey finds that adults with more education are only slightly less likely to report a religious affiliation than their less-educated peers. Among Americans with less than a high school education, 77 percent claim a religious affiliation, while an equal proportion of high school graduates do the same. Among those who have some college education, that number drops slightly to 74 percent, and dips further—but only to 72 percent—among those who have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Sexual Promiscuity and Sexual Contact
The median heterosexual man or woman (age 18-60) reports somewhere between four and six opposite sex partners in their lifetime. Lesbian women, too, report about the same number of partners. The median gay man, however, has had many more partners—reporting between 16 and 20 same-sex sexual partners to this point in their lifetime.
Thirty-one percent of adults below the age of 60 report having had overlapping sexual relationships at some point in their lives.
Two-thirds of lesbians (70 percent) and one-third (30 percent) of gay men who report attraction exclusively to members of their own sex also report having had at least one opposite sex sexual partner in their lifetimes. On the other hand, among those who considered themselves exclusively (or “100 percent”) heterosexual, the share who had sex with someone outside of what their reported sexual orientation would predict were much lower: just three 3 percent of heterosexual men and five 5 percent of heterosexual women had at least one sexual partner of the same sex.
Pornography Use
Forty-three percent of men and 9 percent of women reported watching pornography in the past week, while only 34 percent of men and 72 percent of women report not viewing pornography in at least a year, if at all.
60-year-old men are only slightly less likely to have viewed pornography within the past week than men in their 20s and 30s. Among women, 19 percent of women under age 30 report viewing pornography in the week prior to the survey, while only three percent of women in their 50s report doing so.
Religious affiliation itself is associated with moderately lower levels of pornography usage, though pornography usage is still common among male churchgoers: 27 percent of Christian male attendees report pornography use in the week prior to the survey.
Religious service attendance also matters for pornography use. Weekly church attenders are the least likely to report pornography use in the past week, while those who rarely or never attend do so at double the rate.
Premarital Sex
Increased religious service attendance is negatively associated with reports of premarital sex. Among married weekly religious service attenders, 65 percent reported first sex prior to getting married, compared to 88 percent who report occasional attendance and a full 96 percent of those who never attend religious services. Among Protestants, those that classify themselves as “liberal Protestants” report the highest levels of premarital sex while more conservative “evangelical Protestants” report the lowest levels.

Christian schools’ ‘hands tied’ by gender-bender rules
Come August of next year, high-school students in Minnesota will be permitted to play sports on teams with whatever gender they “identify” with, rather than what their biological gender would dictate, and a leading Christian family group believes this is a recipe for disaster.
On Thursday, the Minnesota State High School League, or MSHSL, officially adopted new policies that would require all public, private and even some religious high schools to accommodate transgender students, effective Aug. 1, 2015. The decision came in the face of fierce opposition that delayed the decision by months.

- Louis Markos offers a readable and read-worthy review of Craig Blomberg’s recent book Can We Still Believe the Bible? I appreciate his push-back against Blomberg’s apparent defense of the indefensible practice of “gender-norming” in translation. However, when Markos pities Bart Ehrman because “the kind of fundamentalism in which the Christian believer turned biblical debunker was raised did not prepare him for the challenges he would face in college,” I recall that Phil Johnson, a classmate of Ehrman’s at Moody, has noted otherwise.

- Ah, Christmastime. When the atheists show yet again that their dysangelistic obsession with proclaiming the empty message of the sovereignty of self shames many Christians’ readiness to tell the good and true news of Christ.
- The Post-“Farewell”-Bell continues on the same sad but predictable trajectory.
- When Boswell told Samuel Johnson of seeing a woman preach in a Quaker meeting, famously replied: “Sir, a woman’s preaching is like a dog’s walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all.” Which I cite because…
- I feel that way when President Obama tries to use Scripture to prop up his agenda — as he did when explaining why lawless home invasion is a good thing, when done on a national scale. And D. G. Hart lodges an objection. It’s nice that someone is bothered when the Bible is “so used and abused.”
- Some readers will only be thinking of
- Well, now. This is new. I’ve sent you to Doug Wilson in the past when his writing and sharp thinking shine. And now…this!

- Not everyone was smitten with Russell Moore’s response to the Garner verdict. Among the unsmitten, Kevin Stilley.
- Is Christmas pagan? A number of texts will help you rise above common misconceptions. For instance, Nate Busenitz over at Cripplegate looks a little more deeply than usual at why December 25 was chosen.
- Several years ago, William J. Tighe wrote on the same question.
- Then there’s my essay, To Tell the Truth, Virginia. (I’m an anti-Santaist.)
- Of course despite everything, many still sneer at Christmas (“Christ’s Mass! Pfft!”) and shun the opportunity. Should we follow suit? M’man Spurgeon says “What are you, nuts?”, and I, of course, agree.

Biblical Illiteracy and the pulpit

Advent: The Need [Sermon] – You won’t celebrate the significance of Christmas until you recognize the severity of your need. In this first Advent sermon, I show why you and I need Christmas so much: Listen to the Sermon

- Here’s your weekly dose of adorable.
- Pastor Voddie Baucham was on Fox News to discuss Ferguson. Well done, sir. It is indeed unfortunate that Fox decided to cut you short as you began to proclaim the Gospel. It is so pathetically obvious that even the ‘conservative’ media cannot tolerate the cross.

- There’s a fascinating article published at The Guardian about ‘selling’ God and the concept of hell. It’s fascinating not in an ‘I agree with everything in this article’ way, but in an ‘I think you should read this and be prepared to engage its content’ way.
