May 28 The Content of Prayer

Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:9–13

Key Verse: Colossians 1:9

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

While reading today’s Scripture passage from Colossians, ask yourself: What specific things about Paul’s prayer life made them worthy of inclusion in God’s Word? As you study, you may want to consider this outline of five elements Paul used to keep his prayer life active and fresh:

  1. Paul made specific requests. Instead of using phrases like “God, bless everyone in the world,” Paul prayed for tangible, measurable things, such as patience, strength, and wisdom for specific people.
  2. Paul asked for big, “God-sized” things. Nothing was out of the question for the God of the universe.
  3. His prayers were always Christ-centered. Never selfish, Paul petitioned God with a servant’s heart, demonstrating submission and humility.
  4. His prayers were kingdom-related. Paul’s ultimate goal in prayer always centered on God’s kingdom being increased.
  5. Paul’s prayers brought glory to God. Paul remembered to recognize and give thanks to God for His faithfulness.

How does your prayer life compare with the attributes on this list? Is there an area in which you need strength or improvement? If you are unsure, take time to ask God for specific insight and guidance today.

Lord, I need courage to trust You with the specifics of the needs that are laid on my heart. In sharing the details, let me also seek Your will, not mine.[1]

May 28 The Ground of Victory

Scripture Reading: Psalm 96

Key Verse: Psalm 96:4

The Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.

General Norman Schwarzkopf revealed after the Persian Gulf War that the one–hundred-hour battle was decided in the very first minutes when Allied planes savaged Iraqi air defenses.

“When I saw our planes knock out their radar, I knew at that very moment we had them,” Schwarzkopf said.

There is a very distinct parallel for Christians. Although we are in a very real war, with enticements to sin and an adversary who harasses us, the outcome of the conflict has been decided.

That occurred at Calvary when Jesus “disarmed the rulers and authorities, [making] a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him” (Col. 2:15 nasb). Jesus defeated Satan on the cross. He took away the sting of death by bearing our sins, making reconciliation between God and man possible.

The man or woman who has believed in Him and received His forgiveness of sins is on the winning side. But we deal with our foe on the ground of victory. We are not helpless, frightened little children but sons and daughters of God who triumph over Satan “through Him.”

Don’t shrink from the battle. It was won at Golgotha, and you share in its victory through your union with the Victor, Jesus Christ.

O God, thank You that the battle was already won at Golgotha. I share in its triumph through my union with Christ. I praise You that I deal with the enemy on victory ground![1]

May 28 Rejoicing in Salvation

Scripture reading: 1 Timothy 1:12–15

Key verse: Psalm 55:9

Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues,

For I have seen violence and strife in the city.

The person who used the word joy more than any other writer of Scripture was the apostle Paul. That appears incredible. Wasn’t Paul beaten, stoned, ridiculed, and mocked wherever he preached? Wasn’t Paul the fellow who knew the inside of a prison cell better than the average criminal?

How could he even think of rejoicing, much less use it so liberally in his epistles? Paul’s delight came from an overwhelming gratitude for God’s work of salvation: “The grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant … This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief” (1 Tim. 1:14–15).

If you have placed your faith in Christ as Savior, think of the supernatural transformation that transpired. You were brought from the domain of Satan into the kingdom of God; you were delivered from unending punishment and gifted with everlasting life.

You became God’s friend, His child. He became your heavenly Father because through the agency of His Spirit, you were born again. Consider the greatness of your salvation, then rejoice in it today.

God, You are my Friend and my heavenly Father. I rejoice in You and my salvation.[1]

The Weaponizing of Education: Transforming Your Children Into Immoral and Ignorant Globalists | Dave Hodges

Article Image

• Dave Hodges Common Sense Show

Over the past week, I have been engaged in writing about how the United States is being taken over from forces that are embedded within our country and of course, we are threatened by foreign forces.

The domestic-inspired insurgency is the most dangerous threat to our way of life because it seeks to remove the underpinnings of our society which forms the basis for which we would defend ourselves from those that would seek to enslave and destroy us.

Before one can totally subjugate a country and force-feed the cancer that we call globalism upon the American people, the children must first be controlled. For if the children are not controlled, the ruling authority could face generations of rebellion. By gaining control of the education system, which is designed to dumb down students, the ensuing resistance will have a short shelf life.

Any educational revolution must begin with undermining the system of government and turning the culture of the country upside down and this is exactly what we have seen with the implementation of Common Core as developed by the United Nations and handed off to the Obama administration.

The mainstream media would have the country believe that Common Core is dead, however, nothing could be further from the truth.

From Education Week:

  • To date, 34 states and the District of Columbia have kept Common Core totally intact.
  • 11 states announced a major Common Core rewrite. However, they still have the bulk of Common Core permeating their respective education systems.. Essentially these states have kept the bulk of Common Core concepts within its education systems.
  • Four states never adopted Common Core.
  • One stITate only adopted Common Core in Language Arts.

The net effect of Common Core is still forced upon unsuspecting students and parents which comprises over 90% of all students. Slo the claim that Common Core is dead and buried is false and misleading.

Destroying the Culture By Eviscerating the Morals of Children

Did you know that pedophilia is a sexual orientation? At least that is what government-based school officials in California believe and they are forcing this abomination, or should I say Obamanation, down the throats of our youngest and most impressionable people.

This perversion of becoming the mainstream belief in many school districts as evidenced by what is going on in the Brea Olinda School District (BOUSD). Amazingly, district officials are not even trying to hide this outrage. At a parent-orientation meeting earlier this year, the BOUSD , stated that teaching pedophilia as a sexual orientation is “no big deal”. At least that is what Assistant Superintendent of Curricula Kerrie Torres stated in a very matter-of-fact manner, where in effect, this District, like so many others, are stating that sex between a boy and a man is indeed nothing but an expression of a sexual orientation. To make it clear, the leading officials in the BOUSD have made it clear that they are ignoring the rape laws I every state and declaring this inhumane act as a sexual orientation.

This represents the undermining of the American culture. This is the kind of propaganda that will open the door to more extremist positions that children are being forced to accept.

Yet, there is another example how children’s moral fiber is being threatened.

Pretending to be teaching “media literacy” and other educational topics, there is a disguised and a new web series called the “Radical Cram School”  that is indoctrinating young Asian girls and other “people of color” into becoming radical feminists, socialists, racists, revolutionaries, anti-American zealots, and full-blown social-justice warriors.” This program also promotes gender confusion and “The Resistance” against President Trump. The intent is omnipresent. Trump is associated with populism and patriotism. The globalists seek to destroy these concepts and by linking these ideas to repugnant and false charges of racism and sexism, populism and patriotism is radicalized in children’s minds. In one episode on “vocabulary” the creator of the program introduces the girls to something called “gender non-binary” and “gender fluid.” This concept, one of the young girls says, means  that a child can choose to be any gender they want to be In this program, a child is not just a boy or a girl. They typically give answers that they are “gender fluid.”

Dumbing Down the Masses

It is a well-known fact that the early industrialists, when setting up the public education system designed to make immigrant children factory ready, they had some very well-defined goals. First, they did not want to educate children beyond the 6th grade. The reason was simple, these early globalists wanted their employees to be educated enough to do their job, but not so smart that they would challenge the status quo of society. The dumbing down of America, through such practices as Common Core are accomplishing this goal. Sadly, most administrators and school board members are ignorant to the systemic demise related to the cognitive development of our children.

Even major contributors to Common Core are seeing the increasingly destructive role that Common Core is having on America;s children, especially in the area of reading comprehension. On the SAT, reading comprehension has declined by 40 points and we owe it all to Common Core.

Take the case of Common Core contributor, Dr Louisa Moats, who has lashed out at the final product.  Moats has been tirelessly criticizing the U.S. Department of Education’s increasingly detrimental role in education. In an interview with FreedomProject Media’s The Newman Report, Dr. Moats slammed the early literacy component of the Obama-backed national standards for being deeply flawed and contributing to a national reading crisis.

An ignorant population will never know the difference when tyranny is forced upon them. Why do you think the Founding Fathers are being “phased out” of American education?

The intent to dumb down the masses takes a quantum leap forward with the following:

As government education gets more and more dumbed down, lawmakers in North Carolina are working on legislation to cement a grading scale into place for public schools in which a 40 percent is considered a passing grade. Yes, seriously.

The proposed bill with the grading scale would not affect student grades — after all, students are routinely graduating from government schools unable to even read their high-school diploma, so there is no need to mess with the phony grades being dispensed like candy. The reality of “grade inflation” is now well established, as government increasingly rewards teachers and schools that give students the best grades while punishing those that give students grades reflecting their work. One teacher in Florida was even fired for objecting to the grade lunacy.

Under the proposed North Carolina grading scale for schools, which has already been in use for years but would be made permanent with HB 145, an “A” school could earn an 85 percent and up, while B schools would need a 70 percent or more. Anything between 40 and 54 percent would secure a “D,” meaning the school would be considered a “passing” school. Even with the ludicrous scale, one in five schools in some counties are “failing.”

This is not just confined to North Carolina. In Arizona, the Deer Valley School District is embracing many of these concepts and are in the process of implementing grading practices which will leave their children intellectually defenseless. .

Conclusion

Again, any invading army or revolutionary guard will seek to turn the children into long-term allies. And this is precisely what we are witnessing in America today. These practices separate children from the moral guidance provided by parents and it separates children from God, which is the ultimate goal! This represents the weaponizing of American education.

The Gospel Coalition’s Crusade to Kill the Gospel and the Church — Reformation Charlotte

The Gospel Coalition is not about the gospel. That ship sailed years ago. It is coalition social activists, many of whom are financially supported by leftist billionaires like George Soros and James Riady, whose sole purpose is to platform the Church to effect political change in the U.S. and abroad.

The Gospel Coalition has co-opted many useful idiots who probably mean well, but are simply too ignorant to see past the surface of what is happening to the Church. One of them is Jared Wilson who recently penned a piece at The Gospel Coalition calling the famous gospel preacher, George Whitefield’s Christianity into question.

In this piece, Wilson jumps on the anti-Protestant bandwagon calling Whitefield’s salvation into question because he was a slave owner. Not only did Whitefield own slaves himself, but during this time of social experimentation and reform, Whitefield was instrumental in legalizing slavery in his own state, Georgia, and possibly owned slaves before it was legal.

Let’s be clear, this should not be construed as any kind of defense of chattel slavery. It is not. However, the perspective that is missed here should be blatantly obvious — during this time, people did not know what we know now about the history of slavery. Was owning slaves sinful? Yes, of course, it was. But so is smoking cigarettes. However, when cigarettes were new, everyone did it and nobody thought about the consequences.

The body of Christ requires a Church that disciplines and holds accountable those who are in sin. America did not have a well-organized and established Church to do this — it was still a work-in-progress.

Sociologists Believe Shrieking Left-Winger Who Is Throwing Things May Be Expressing Disagreement — The Babylon Bee

PORTLAND, OR—Kevin Drake got a surprise. While discussing politics with friends, he was suddenly accosted by a left-winger who started shrieking at him and throwing things, including a milkshake and also a brick. While Drake’s friends were startled, Drake had dealt with left-wingers before and correctly identified the behavior as an attempt to communicate.

“He’s expressing that he disagreed with something I said,” Drake told his friends. He then repeated what he had said, observing when and how much the left-winger shrieked and got violent to try and determine what it was he disagreed with. When they found the opinion that set the left-winger off, though, they were uncertain what to do next. “We didn’t understand why he disagreed, and when Kevin tried to ask him, he only shrieked louder and threw more things.”

“While the far-left can successfully communicate what they disagree with by using noise and tossing objects,” explained Dr. Robert Powell, a leading sociologist, “coherently explaining why they disagree with a view is unfortunately beyond their limited communication skills.” When the left-winger’s trigger has been identified, Dr. Powell said there are two options. One is to avoid saying the thing the left-winger disagrees with so he’ll remain calm. The other is to hold him down and say what he disagrees with over and over in his face and then harvest his tears to later drink from a tumbler.

Justin Trudeau In Canada Moves to Ban Christians From Demonstrating in Public Under New Pro-Islam And Pro-LGBTQ+ Anti-Hate Speech Proposal — Now The End Begins

Legislation proposed in the Canadian province of Ontario would criminalize public displays by Christians deemed hateful to Muslims, the LGBT community and other victim groups designated by the radical Canadian Left.

While Christians in the U.S. were given a reprieve with the election in 2016 of Donald Trump; Canadian Christians have been suffering under the Globalist/Marxist rule of Justin Trudeau.

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.” Proverbs 29:2,8 K(JV)

Don’t let his cute face fool you – he is a snake in the globalist grass, and Christians in Canada are becoming alarmed. Before Trudeau came to rule, Canada had a wonderful prime minister in Stephen Harper, who is a Christian man and a blessed friend to Israel and the Jews.

I have tried to keep up with reports about Trudeau through the years. Today, a reader of my articles wrote to me about the Leftist PM of her country. It was heart wrenching as I read her words. She asked for much prayer for Canada.

Canada Moves to Ban Christians From Demonstrating in Public Under New Anti-Hate Proposal

FROM BIG LEAGUE POLITICS: The bill, “Prohibiting Hate-Promoting Demonstrations at Queen’s Park Act, 2019,” bans any demonstration, rally or other activity that is deemed hateful by the Speaker from being permissible on legislative grounds – effectively insulating the government from Christian speech.

The nebulous nature of Canada’s anti-hate laws essentially give leftist legislators carte blanche to ban all Christian protest:

The problem with this bill, however, lies in the fact that the definition of “hate” is uncertain under Canadian law. As a result, unfortunately, the use of the word “hate” can be a useful tool for some to prevent differing views from being expressed. That is, the word “hate” can be used to silence opposing views expressed when, in fact, the views are simply a reasonable expression of belief.

This concern is based on actual experience. Canadians have already experienced the contempt shown by the Supreme Court of Canada towards Section 2 of the Charter of Rights which provides for freedom of opinion, expression and religion. In the Trinity Western Christian University case (2018), a private Christian university’s moral covenant was deemed hateful and discriminating. In the Bill Whatcott case (2013), the Supreme Court of Canada concluded that the effects of an expression used, not the communicator’s intent, are what is relevant. The court went on to conclude that “truthful statements and sincerely held beliefs do not affect the finding of “hate”. Mr. Whatcott merely expressed in his pamphlet the well-established facts about homosexuality which the court held to be “hateful”. It is worth noting that the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, presumably consisting of equally learned judges, had previously concluded that the pamphlet was not hateful. The Supreme Court of Canada prides itself on being a “progressive” court and has an established bias as evidenced in a series of decisions that have struck down laws based on traditional values. There is little likelihood that the court will protect tradition-based groups if they are denied the right to demonstrate at the provincial legislature. source

As Canada becomes more restrictive toward Christianity, they open their arms for the LGBT agenda and Islam to take a foothold in their culture.

The Royal Canadian Mint issued a commemorative coin last month to celebrate homosexual love as a core principle of Canadian society.

“Marking 50 years since a landmark decision that began a process of legal reforms to recognize the rights of LGBTQ2 Canadians is a powerful way to recognize Canada’s profound belief in equality and inclusion,” said Marie Lemay, president and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint.

Meanwhile, the far-left Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been revealed to be plotting different ways to bring ISIS terrorists to his nation and possibly be re-introduced in public life.

“None of the options are ideal and all present different challenges and risks,” said the three-page secret paper, which was heavily redacted after its release through the Access to Information Act.

As globalism and liberalism takes a stronger hold in Canada, the government can be expected to become even more hostile to Christianity and more hospitable to subversive agendas. READ MORE

Can someone receive Jesus as Savior, but not as Lord? — Monergism.com Blog Feed

Question: Can someone receive Jesus as Savior, but not as Lord?

Answer: When God opens someone’s eyes to recognize and trust Jesus as Savior, they already affirm Him as Lord. The concepts are so interrelated that cannot really be separated. Here’s why:

If, by grace, you want Jesus to save you from the guilt and power of sin, then it shows that you no longer want to be under sin’s tyranny, but want Him to rescue you from it. And if you want to be out from under sin’s tyranny then it reveals you want to be under the yoke of Christ. For to be under anything apart from Christ is sin.

On the other hand, those who want Jesus to rescue them from sin’s guilt, but leave them under its power, have not understood the gospel. A truly regenerate person wants Jesus to save from both sin’s guilt AND power.

Jesus did not come to approve or validate us in our sins, but to rescue us from our sins. That is why He is called the Savior.

That is why the no-Lordship position makes absolutely no sense. If you are not coming to Jesus to save you from sin then what are you coming to Him for?

May 28, 2019 Afternoon Verse Of The Day

Rejecting the Righteous

The Pharisees and their scribes began grumbling at His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (5:30–32)

Their haughty disdain for the riffraff inside prevented them from attending Matthew’s banquet, but that did not mean that the Pharisees and their scribes (see the exposition of 5:17 in chapter 27 of this volume for background information on the scribes and Pharisees) weren’t aware of what was going on inside. They expressed their disapproval by grumbling (gogguzō; an onomatopoetic word) at Jesus’ disciples. They would not deign to speak to any of the tax collectors and sinners attending the banquet. But they evidently expected the Lord and His disciples to follow the prescriptions of the rabbinic law, hence their anger and resentment toward them.

Their question, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?” reflects the scribes’ and Pharisees’ outrage that Jesus and His disciples would associate with those unclean outcasts. Their question was a rhetorical one, intended as a stinging rebuke for what they viewed as outrageous behavior on the part of the Lord and His disciples. The question exposes the scribes and Pharisees as proud, focused on externals, and hypocritical. Imagining themselves to be the religious elite, they were in reality void of grace and strangers to salvation. Jesus turned His back on the outwardly moral, and focused on transforming repentant sinners into a holy people.

Overhearing the scribes and Pharisees, Jesus answered their challenge. His reply consisted of three parts. The Lord first gave an analogy, pointing out the self-evident fact that it is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. The scribes and Pharisees could not dispute that the tax collectors and sinners were spiritually sick; they were the sickest of the sick. How could they argue that the Great Physician should not minister to them? The Lord’s reply was a powerful indictment of their cold hearts, wickedness, and hatred of the very downtrodden sinners they should have sought to help. They saw no sin in themselves and no good or value in others.

Second, Jesus answered them from Scripture. Matthew 9:13 records that He also told the scribes and Pharisees to “go and learn [an expression used by the rabbis to rebuke unwarranted ignorance] what this means: ‘I desire compassion, and not sacrifice.’ ” The quote is from Hosea 6:6, and declares that God does not want external sacrifices but a heart that shows mercy (cf. Prov. 21:3; Isa. 1:11–17; Amos 5:21–24; Mic. 6:8). Those who show mercy to others as the Lord commanded (Luke 6:36) will themselves receive mercy from God (Matt. 5:7), but “judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy” (James 2:13). The scribes and Pharisees, who prided themselves on their rigid adherence to the law, had no excuse for failing to show mercy to those who so desperately needed it.

Finally, Jesus answered them from His own personal authority as God incarnate, declaring, “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” It is a statement full of irony, even sarcasm (cf. Paul’s sarcastic deflation of the conceited Corinthians in 1 Cor. 4:8). Accepting on the surface the scribes’ and Pharisees’ evaluation of themselves as righteous and hence not in need of a Savior, Jesus judicially left them to their self-righteous folly (cf. Matt. 15:14). Later He would again make this point when He told His hearers that “there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance” (Luke 15:7). God seeks the truly repentant heart, not the hardened, self-righteous one. It was the humble, repentant tax collector, not the self-exalting, self-righteous Pharisee who Jesus said was justified (18:14). It was His classifying of them as sinners in need of repentance that inflamed the Pharisees’ hatred of Jesus.

The truth is that God cannot save those who refuse to see themselves as sinners, who ignore, gloss over, or trivialize their sin. Only those who understand by the grace of God and the convicting work of the Holy Spirit that they are the poor, prisoners, blind, and oppressed, headed for a Christless, Godless eternity in hell, and trust in Christ’s work on the cross as payment in full for their sins (Col. 2:13–14) can be saved. As James wrote, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

The scribes and Pharisees had badly misunderstood God’s purpose in giving the law. He did not give the law as a means of achieving self-righteousness, but to provoke self-condemnation, awareness of sin, conviction, repentance, and pleading to God for mercy. The law is “our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith” (Gal. 3:24). As Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 1:9–10,

[God’s] law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching.

Only those who recognize themselves to be in the latter group can embrace the glorious gospel of forgiveness. Such a one was Paul, the self-proclaimed foremost of all sinners (1 Tim. 1:15), who nevertheless found that “the grace of our Lord was more than abundant” to save even him (v. 14).[1]

30 The complaint of the Pharisees, and particularly of those among them who were also scribes, is more than a superficial attempt to find fault. To join in table fellowship with irreligious “sinners” is to cast doubt on one of the essential assumptions of Pharisaic teaching. This sect was dedicated to upholding the purity of Jewish faith and life. Implicit in their teachings was strict adherence to both law and tradition, including necessary rites of purification and separation from all whose moral or ritual purity might be in question. The Galilean people had a reputation (not always deserved) for disdaining such scruples and disregarding the traditions.

The Pharisees’ complaint is specifically directed to the act of eating and drinking because table fellowship implied mutual acceptance. No act, apart from participation in the actual sinful deeds of the guests, could have broken the wall of separation more dramatically. Yet the Pharisees are not yet ready to argue with Jesus himself. In the previous incident they did not even express their thoughts openly (v. 21). Now they direct their question to Jesus’ disciples and also (in Luke only) charge the disciples themselves, not just Jesus, with this unacceptable conduct.

31–32 It is important to recognize that Jesus not only originated proverbs and parables but also made wise use of current ones. So, citing a self-evident proverb of his day (v. 31), he described his mission in terms that he would go on to amplify in the parables in ch. 15. Since none are truly “righteous” (v. 32; cf. 18:19; Ro 3:23), Jesus used the word here either in a relative sense or with a touch of sarcasm. The prodigal son’s older brother, for example, could rightly claim that he had not deserted his father as the prodigal had (15:29). If, therefore, Jesus meant by “righteous” those who are generally loyal or devout, v. 32 means that he gave more help to those in greater need. But if, as is more likely, Jesus implied that the Pharisees only thought that they were righteous, the point is that one must first acknowledge oneself to be a sinner before he or she can truly respond to the call to repentance. Luke allows the proverb Jesus quoted to come full circle theologically by including the word “repentance,” omitted in Matthew 9:13 and Mark 2:17. With this word Luke introduces a topic of major importance. While the gospel of grace and forgiveness is for everyone (2:10), repentance is a prerequisite to its reception. The tax collector in 18:13–14 met this prerequisite, but not the Pharisee (18:11–12). The Lukan theme of joy is linked with that of repentance in 15:7, 10, 22–27, 32. Repentance was previously mentioned in Luke 3:3, 8, but only in the context of John the Baptist’s ministry.

Jesus’ use of the proverb may contain an allusion to Ezekiel 34, where the leaders of God’s people were accused of failing to take care of their flock since they had not “strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured” (34:4; cf. Green, 248). If this allusion can be established, then Jesus is also saying that his Messianic ministry points to the disqualification of the Jewish leaders as the “shepherds” of God’s people. This challenge to those in power is effectively issued in this context of table fellowship when the “traditional meal praxis” of the society is overturned (S. Scott Bartchy, “The Historical Jesus and Honor Reversal at the Table,” in The Social Setting of Jesus and the Gospels, ed. W. Stegemann, B. J. Malina, and G. Theissen [Minneapolis: Fortress, 2002], 175–83).[2]

30–32 Jesus’ action (eating with toll collectors and others, v 29) has as its sequelae two questions, the first in v 30, the second in v 33; here his action leads to protest (v 30) and response (vv 31–32). In contrast to the designation of Jesus’ opponents in 5:17, 21, Luke identifies only Pharisees; although this is strictly accurate—since scribes constituted a group of literate, educated persons concerned with the law who may or may not be of Pharisaic persuasion—the explicit presence of scribes in this instance draws attention to an impending confrontation concerning legal matters. In addition, the potential identification of scribes as persons closely identified with the temple but not presently serving as priests and certainly as persons of high status, of power and privilege,73 raises the stakes on the confrontation that unfolds here. As before, the Pharisees are present to monitor legal observance. Two implicatures lie behind their complaint. First, Pharisees interpreted the holiness of the temple as extending to their own households, with the ritual purity required of priests serving in the temple extended to their tables. The food to be eaten must be ritually clean; those with whom one ate likewise. Second, these Pharisees apparently regard Jesus and his disciples as righteous, at least in comparison with their tablemates. Consequently, Jesus and his companions should not be associating in so friendly a manner with these sinners.

These Pharisees manifest their concern with boundaries most prominently in the labels they use to describe Jesus’ table intimates: toll collectors and sinners. Luke had simply referred to toll collectors and “others,” so it is the Pharisees who introduced the term “sinner,” using it as a label. In the hands of the Pharisees, “sinner” demarcates those who associate with toll collectors as persons living outside faithfulness to God. By means of vituperative apposition, then, toll collectors are dismissed, along with sinners, as possible friends; from the Pharisaic perspective, they are outside the boundaries, beyond the margins. In Lukan parlance, though, toll collectors and sinners would be included among “the poor,” those to whom Jesus has been sent to proclaim good news.76

Adopting other imagery more at home in Luke 5, Jesus portrays toll collectors and sinners as sick, and himself as a physician. Given the categories of illness and health developed in 5:12–26, this signifies the psychosocial displacement of Jesus’ tablemates. Indeed, Jesus thus draws on traditional conceptualizations of Yahweh as physician and of divine redemption as healing. Against this backdrop, “healing” is understood as restoration to relationship with Yahweh and his people—that is, as forgiveness. In coming to them as physician, Jesus participates again in boundary-crossing and, in doing so, opens the way to spiritual and social restoration for these outcasts. What is more, Luke’s narrative seems to echo Ezekiel 34, where Israel’s leadership is indicted for their failure to strengthen the weak, heal the sick, and the like—an allegation that would now apply to these Pharisees and their scribes. The parallelism between vv 27–28 and v 32, then, renders Jesus’ call to Levi as a programmatic call to discipleship for sinners, Levi’s response to Jesus as a concrete embodiment of “repentance,” and the banquet as a representation of the new community being formed around Jesus. Jesus thus uses the terms “sinner” and “righteous” in a parodic way, as if to say, “Those you thought were outside the boundaries of companionship are the very ones to whom I have been sent.”[3]

Vers. 31, 32.—And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. This was one of those sayings of the Lord which sank very deep into the hearts of the hearers. All the three, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, repeat it with very slight variations; it was evidently a favourite theme with the great first teachers who followed Christ. It has borne rich fruit in the Master’s Church; for this vindication of Jesus of his conduct in going so often into the society of the moral waifs and strays of the population has been the real “foundation of all those philanthropic movements which enlist the upper classes of society in the blessed work of bending down to meet in love the lower classes, so that the snapped circle of humanity may be restored; it is the philosophy in a nutshell of all home and missionary operations” (Dr. Morrison, on Mark 2:17).[4]

32 Luke replaces Mark’s aorist ἦλθον, “I came,” with the perfect ἐλήλυθα, “I have come,” probably because he sees a permanently changed state of affairs introduced by Jesus and carried on into the life of the church. He also adds at the end of the verse εἰς μετάνοιαν, “to repentance”: Luke assures his reader that Jesus with his magnanimity in no way condones sin. The addition also facilitates the application of the medical similitude of v 31 to this verse. Jesus’ sentiment is: “Where the need, there the deed.” Jesus’ ministry is a ministry of restoration. To ask whether there are, or who are, the righteous whom Jesus does not call to repentance misses the thrust (as it does in 15:7). The contrast is determined by the imagery of v 31.

While it would be attractive to consider Jesus’ call as an invitation to the great eschatological banquet of God (so H. Schürmann, Worte des Herrn: Jesu Botschaft vom Königtum Gottes [Freiburg: Herder, 1961] 38: Jesus as host; Pesch, “Das Zöllnergastmahl,” 79–80: Jesus as messenger), at least for the Lukan text with its “call to repentance” only a more general sense for “call” may be claimed.[5]

In their vision of a near-future dystopian society, a corporation called Nyima acquires a DNA ancestry company (think 23andMe or Ancestry.org), along with its huge database of genetic profiles. From there, all of that data is used to create a new social media platform-cum-genetic security system called the SEQ Network, which recommends products, services, and even romantic partners based on what inferences about people can be gleaned from their genetic profiles, and tracking everything—from users’ banking transactions to their location—using their DNA signatures. It’s already beginning to happen.

WORLDNETDAILY — It’s the network most frequently referenced by President Trump as “fake news,” and as with his Republican primary opponents, the label may have something to do with its decline in popularity. The RedState blog noted Friday that CNN’s town hall with Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke on Tuesday averaged a paltry 714,000 total viewers and 194,000 in the key 25-54 demo. SEN. TOM COTTON — The story of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier begins on the battlefields of Europe as the guns fell silent on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. The American Expeditionary Forces had proved decisive in World War I, the Great War that would shape so much of the coming century. But despite its late entry, the AEF lost more than 116,000 troops. Thanks in part to the recent introduction of identification tags, though, fewer than two thousand remained unidentified. Woke Christianity is Not Christian, It’s a Wicked, Anti-Christ Religion — Reformation Charlotte

Woke Christianity is the newest movement in the evangelical Church that is causing a wave of division unseen and unmatched in the history of the Church since the Protestant Reformation. Led by outspoken “woke” social justice warriors — like Thabiti Anyabwile, Eric Mason, Jemar Tisby, Russell Moore, and Kyle Howard — this movement has spawned a completely new religion in and of itself.

The movement has hijacked the Christian Church, disguising itself as a gospel-centered movement calling for reconciliation, it has done nothing but create division. While there have always been denominational differences, the true Church has been united around the essentials of sound biblical doctrine and truth — until recently.

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.

Romans 16:17

These men named above are the embodiment of Romans 16:17. The body of Christ has stood on sound biblical doctrine and its historic creeds, yet these factious men are hell-bent on sowing discord. Their ideology is not derived from Scripture, but secular thought rooted in Marxism and Critical Theory — which is designed from its core to tear down society. They have rewritten the gospel to include works, which include atonement for the sins of ancestors through acts of reparations and the notion that it is sinful to be “white.”

Thabiti Anyabwile — who has completely slipped into the realm of heresy — says that to oppose reparations is demonic. Worse, they have hijacked the pro-life movement — a biblical movement that calls for actual biblical justice — and have turned it into a crusade for social justice.

Oil Breaks Down: Should Stock Market Bulls Be Worried? — Kimble Charting Solutions

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote an article about crude oil’s recent correlation to the S&P 500 (stock market) and that its initial move lower may be sending a bearish signal to stocks.

Since then, crude oil has fallen sharply through its up-trend line, sending a bearish message to Oil bulls.

Is the S&P 500 the next to fall?

Below is an updated chart of Crude Oil showing the multi-month downtrend (1), and the ultimate break down through its near term up-trend line (2).

More importantly, from a pattern perspective, Crude Oil is putting in a large weekly reversal bar (bearish).

This warrants watching as Crude Oil and the stock market remain highly correlated since their peak in October. Stay tuned!

The Fake News Media Has Anointed ‘Creepy’ Joe Biden As The Front Runner With Phony Polls, But The Sparsely-Attended Rallies Tell The Actual Truth — Now The End Begins

He’s dominating in the polls, his fundraising is going gangbusters and he’s showing broad support from key political players in the early presidential states.

The Liberal-run fake news media never seems to learn from their own mistakes, ever. Back in  2016, right up to the moment when the Trump Landslide started, they were telling all their Liberal followers that Crooked Hillary had a 99% chance of winning. 99%! The voters on the other hand replied with the truth and Donald Trump won the Electoral College vote by a 33% margin. Landslide.

Ever since Creepy Uncle Joe Biden announced his candidacy, the fake news media has done nothing but publish highly-skewed and misleading poll results showing Joe Biden ahead of his competitors by double digits. So if that were the truth, how come his rallies only draw crowds in the hundreds? Donald Trump holds a rally and tens of thousands wait hours in line.

Nope, the Liberal-run fake news media never learns, and that’s one reason why we may just well see four more years of #MAGA.

Joe Biden is the front-runner by every measure — except big crowds

FROM POLITICO: So where are the big energetic crowds, the lines around the block to get into Joe Biden’s events? The question is no small matter in a party still recovering from a bitter 2016 defeat — a loss marked by a lack of enthusiasm for an establishment nominee in several critical states.

Attendance at the former vice president’s launch rally paled next to some of his rivals. In his first Iowa visit, he didn’t match the crowds that greeted Elizabeth Warren or even the less well-known Pete Buttigieg in their initial visits. So far, he’s kept his events to smaller venues where there’s little danger of empty seats.

creepy-uncle-joe-biden-molesting-children-me-too-lucy-flores-2020-liberals-believe-all-women

In the eyes of Joe Biden’s progressive critics — as well as President Donald Trump, who has publicly mocked him for it — the seeming lack of excitement or teeming masses at his events is a leading indicator of a lack of passion for his candidacy.

“I started to think the polls were wrong about Biden because it’s not what we’re seeing on the ground,” said Aimee Allison, founder and president of She the People, a national network devoted to promoting women of color.

“Inspiration is the X-factor and we’re waiting for the inspiration from Biden,” she said. “When the inspiration isn’t there, the turnout from the core of the Democratic base — women of color — isn’t there. And then we lose.”

To Biden’s campaign, attendance figures are a meaningless metric. Focusing on crowd size is Trump’s game, they say, an emphasis on style over substance that attempts to turn audience engagement into an argument about the 76-year-old Biden’s energy level.

Crowd size, after all, is an imperfect metric to measure a campaign’s vitality. While it can be a revealing indicator, it still lacks the scientific underpinning of polling or the fixed-dollar figures associated with fundraising. Nor does it account for the judgment of elected and influential Democrats across the country.

Just as critics doubted Biden’s popularity before he got in the race, his campaign is confident he’ll have the crowds when he needs them.

“We’re seeing enormous enthusiasm for Joe Biden’s candidacy across the country, beginning the very first day of the campaign when he got over 100,000 contributions — 65,000 of which were brand new to our lists — from all 50 states,” said Biden campaign spokesman T.J. Ducklo.

Even so, since announcing his candidacy more than a month ago, Biden has yet to draw anything near the 20,000 people who showed in Oakland to cheer on Kamala Harris when she announced, or the 13,000 who turned out in Brooklyn for Bernie Sanders’ launch. READ MORE

Joe Biden’s Small Crowd Size Problem

Joe Biden held his first rally in a union hall, and even with that tiny venue, the camera angles did nothing but extreme close-ups never once showing the tiny crowd size. His rallies held after this first one have not had much larger attendance either.

Why the SBC Should Say ‘No More’ to Beth Moore — Christian Research Network

“Victimology has replaced theology beneath the banner of social justice. To play the victim card in our culture today is like playing the Ace of Spades in a card game. The victim approach to ladder climbing is both politically correct and extremely powerful. The social justice movement, unfortunately, places a clear reading of 1 Timothy 2-3 and the roles of women that are rooted in creation within the category of misogyny. Beth Moore has clearly twisted the Scriptures and used the social justice movement to fuel her agenda. Suddenly, anyone who speaks out against her and this progressive deconstructionist trend are shouted down and labeled as misogynists.”

(Josh Buice – Delivered By Grace)   When Molly Marshall was the dean of the school of theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky she likewise served as a pastor of a local church. Upon being forced to resign due to her unbiblical positions, at a candlelight vigil on April 18th 1995, Molly Marshall stated, “The school of theology is without a tenured woman and probably will be as long as the misogynistic forces are unabated,” While we’ve come so far within the SBC, for many, we’ve been moving in the wrong direction. According to Beth Moore:

I am compelled to my bones by the Holy Spirit – I don’t want to be but I am -to draw attention to the sexism & misogyny that is rampant in segments of the SBC, cloaked by piety & bearing the stench of hypocrisy. There are countless godly conservative complementarians. So many.

This is one statement in her long Twitter response to Owen Strachan’s recent article “Divine Order in a Chaotic Age: On Women Preaching” where he pointed to God’s divine hierarchy rooted in creation and connected to the design of the hierarchy established in God’s church.

In May of 2016, I penned an article titled, “Why Your Pastor Should Say ‘No More’ to Beth Moore” where I communicated several concerns that should be taken seriously regarding Beth Moore’s ministry. Today, I’m publishing a sequel to that article that focuses on why the Southern Baptist Convention should cease partnership with Beth Moore’s ministry on any official level—which would include the ERLC, LifeWay, and local churches who make up the SBC. As I begin, I want to be clear that this is not intended to be a hit piece on Beth Moore personally. I’m sure she’s a great mother, wife, and friend to many people, but her ministry, beliefs, and ideas are problematic and must not be overlooked.  View article →

The Oxymoron of Liberal Christianity — David Fiorazo

Modern Liberalism cannot coexist with biblical Christianity. Another example of placing social justice above Scripture emerged last week, this time from an alleged Baptist church in Texas. In a commencement benediction at Baylor University in Waco, left-wing pastor, Dan Freemyer denounced “straight white men” and lobbied for the environment – in a prayer.

If you disagree with God’s Word and dislike Christian conservatives, this is a free country. But stop being a progressive pretender and admit you’re either following the crowd or creating a god in your own likeness.

Calling evil good, conforming to secular culture, and reinterpreting Christian teachings to fit an agenda is part of the cult of modern Liberalism which masquerades as Christianity.  In their rebellion against God, their values include hyper-grace, idolatry, boycotting Israel, feminism, socialism, sexual confusion, environmentalism, and abortion.

The Holy Scriptures have once again taken a back seat, this time at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, which proudly states they are: “fully affirming of women in lay and professional ministry roles, and fully inclusive of LGBTQ+ persons.”

Affirming, inclusive. Don’t be deceived by the modern use of these words.

In his remarks at Baylor, Dan Freemyer stated:

“God, give them the moral imagination to reject the old keys that we’re trying to give them to a planet that we’re poisoning by running it on fossil fuels and misplaced priorities — a planet with too many straight, white men like me behind the steering wheel while others have been expected to sit quietly at the back of the bus,”

Misplaced priorities is right, but look in the mirror, Dan. In your rant about poisoning the planet, you missed an opportunity to honor Jesus Christ and the true gospel by encouraging the college grads to seek first the kingdom of God.

By alluding to environmental activism, climate change, and God-ordained natural marriage, you were exposed as just another religious liberal, also known as a wolf in sheep’s clothing, using your platform as cover for a secular, social justice agenda.

Appealing to people’s emotion and taking advantage of their ignorance, false Christians are deceiving the multitudes while true believers in Christ have been placed on the defensive. The octopus of liberalism now dominates virtually every aspect of culture.

The Left practically controls education, organizations, publications, the entertainment industry, government, and the media. The tragedy however, is that liberalism has gained influence in seminaries and in church pulpits across the country.

The notion too many Christian leaders have today is we must become like the world in order to reach the worldly. Think about it; do liberals ever compromise and become more holy, or do conservatives typically compromise and become more worldly?

Americans are more divided over moral and political issues than ever before, but our greater concern is Christians are divided as well. Fewer believe in absolute truth which tells us we aren’t much different from the world after all. How could this be since God never changes and His Word is eternal? Emotion-driven Good marketing.

Some call it a revival of post modernism, liberation theology, progressivism, or social justice. Many of these leaders hold to a form of godliness but they deny the power of God (2 Tim. 3:5) and attack those who stand on the inerrancy of Scripture.

Why does it matter and why is this dangerous? Political liberals are one thing; we know exactly where they stand; radicals on the left like Pelosi, Booker, Beto, Buttigieg, AOC, and Sanders.

But religious liberals have infiltrated churches across America and have deceived many. These men generally believe the same thing as extremists on the left, and yet claim to be Christian. You will know them by the fruit they produce and by their doctrine. They are masters at twisting Scriptures.

This emerging church has been gaining converts for decades. Until we acknowledge the enemy within, know God’s Word and combat lies with the truth, people will just keep on buying what liberalism has been selling. Because after all, he’s a pastor, priest, or reverend.

The Bible is full of warnings to discern false teachings, call out deceivers, and contend for the faith handed down through the ages. So, what are the main obstacles to the left’s takeover of America? Strong, biblical churches and informed Christian citizens who refuse to stay silent.

WE’RE IN A “FULL SCALE WAR” – Joe diGenova Goes Off on “Enemy of the People” FBI Director Chris Wray (Audio) — The Gateway Pundit

Former US Attorney Joe diGenova announced on the air yesterday that the US is in a “full scale war”.  President Trump and his Attorney General William Barr stand for justice against the corrupt FBI, Intel agencies, Democrats and the far left media complex.

diGenova spoke yesterday on Memorial Day on the air and he again brought to the listener’s attention, the state that we are in today.  He said [emphasis added] –

FULL SCALE WAR – Let me tell you exactly what’s going on here.  This is very important for the listener.

When Bill Barr became Attorney General the President said, “See what you can do, see if you can get to the bottom of what happened  during the campaign.”

Bill Barr tried to do that and you will recall from his interview with FOX, he said he now had more questions than he had when he started.  Chris Wray the current FBI Director was stonewalling the current Attorney General Bill Barr on disclosure of certain information about FBI conduct.  It got very, very heated, so and, Gina Haspel, the current CIA Director, was also resisting disclosure of certain information.

Barr got fed up, went to the President, and said, “I can’t answer your question, and here’s why.”

The President said fine.  Twenty-four hours later the order came out.  This is a full scale war between the Attorney General of the United States and believe it or not, another FBI Director who thinks he’s James Comey.

Christopher Wray is a disaster.  He’s an unmitigated disaster…

You are watching the quintessential Washington power battle.  Here’s the problem for the agencies, the FBI and the CIA.  They have one distinct disadvantage.  They can leak to the Post and the Times but they do not have subpoena power and Bill Barr does.

We are headed for a gigantic, gigantic fight.  The intelligence community, including the FBI is in full resistance in disclosing what they did during the Presidential campaign…. Christopher Wray is now standing in the way of history.  Make no mistake about it, Christopher Wray has become an enemy of the people!

diGenova spoke about the FISA abuse that we reported on over a year ago where an audit of the FISA court showed numerous crimes and stated that Obama’s and James Clapper’s NSA had an “institutional lack of candor“.  [they were liars]

These liars and criminals are under attack and they are resisting with all their might.  We are at war.  We – President Trump, Attorney General Barr and the American people – will win.

For the sake of humanity we have to!
