May 11 Spiritual Benefits of Prayer

Scripture Reading: Psalm 69:13–18

Key Verse: Psalm 69:13

But as for me, my prayer is to You,

O Lord, in the acceptable time;

O God, in the multitude of Your mercy,

Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.

Perhaps your conversations with the Lord began as bedtime prayers when you were a child. Maybe you learned the Lord’s Prayer in Sunday school. Throughout your life, the Bible, your pastor, and Bible teachers have stressed the importance of praying to God.

But how do you really feel about prayer? Is it something you do hurriedly out of obligation, or do you truly enjoy conversing with your heavenly Father many times throughout the day? Discovering the spiritual benefits of prayer may help you to understand the great things that can be accomplished by talking to God:

  • Prayer deepens our relationship with Jesus Christ. It helps us to understand the character of the loving God we serve.
  • Prayer purifies our lives. By confessing our sins and leaving them at God’s feet, we can be relieved of unnecessary guilt and shame.
  • Prayer helps us to trust God as our provider. As life’s pressures increase, we will anticipate our times of fellowship with Him.
  • Prayer leads to spiritual growth and maturity. The more time we spend with God, the more equipped we will be to help others and to weather the storms in our own lives.

If you are currently a “dutiful” prayer, reach out to God in a new way today. Ask Him to show you the joys of being a dedicated prayer warrior.

Lord, I surrender to You my sense of duty in my prayer life, and ask in return that You infuse it with the trust and purity that leads to maturity.[1]

Evangelical SJWs and LGBT Successfully Teamed Up to Get Tech Giants to ‘Demonetize” P&P — Pulpit & Pen

Social Justice Warriors associated with The Gospel Coalition and ‘woke’ evangelicalism have teamed up with the LGBT lobby to get tech giants, Google and Amazon, to demonetize Pulpit & Pen by flagging it as ‘hate speech.’

Pulpit & Pen is not the first conservative news and/or commentary outlet to be censored by the technocracy. Praeger University is taking legal action against Google and YouTube for demonetizing it because of its conservative viewpoint. Steven Crowder and his organization have similarly been blackballed from tech giants from receiving ad revenue. Donald Trump Jr wrote an op-ed about this very issue when Instagram began to ban his posts about problems relating to the (now, provenly false) claims of Jussie Smollett’s supposed victimhood, entitled, Conservatives Face a Tough Fight as Big Tech’s Censorship Expands. Project Veritas revealed that Facebook is intentionally “de-boosting” material from conservatives, and Facebook execs bragged about de-boosting a BlazeTV piece against Social Justice. Both conservatives and liberals alike grew uneasy at the technocracy’s coordinated efforts to ban Alex Jones and his media outlets, and they warned that such censorship would just be the beginning and they would come for all of us next.

The question isn’t whether or not private corporations have the right to censor who they want on their platform, the question is whether or not Big Tech is becoming Big Brother and whether or not such companies should be treated as public utilities. One thing is for sure, if Tech Giants want to start acting as content publishers, they should be legally held liable for everything published on their platforms.

Religious leftists have tried to ban, boycott, and censor Pulpit & Pen many times. A Southern Baptist blog for pastors called for a boycott of Pulpit & Pen because we breached their standard of political correctness. A Baptist newspaper in Missouri warned their readership to stay away from our material. Roving Twitter mobs have called the Tech company to ban us for years, and they often call for boycotts. A gay priest who works with The Gospel Coalition said he’d rather people watch adult entertainment than read P&P. Karen Swallow Prior has called for our censorship, as has Beth Moore. Clayton Jennings fans have tried to get tech companies to ban our publication. Jackie Hill Perry, a Same-Sex Attracted activist and Social Justice Warrior (also affiliated with TGC) had legions of her LGBTQ fans (for she has many) flag us for hate speech.

I’ve been banned from Facebook for posting a P&P article calling Bruce Jenner a man (this was shortly after “deadnaming” became prohibited). I’ve been banned from Facebook for citing a current medical science organization listing ‘transgenderism’ as a mental illness. These bans were done because of ‘flagging’ done by Jackie Hill Perry fans and Social Justice advocates associated with The Gospel Coalition. In short, it was leftist “Christians” in partnership with the LGBT lobby who tried to silence me. I was also banned for ‘hate speech’ after a post critical of Ed Stetzer, a former Lifeway executive and an editor at Christianity Today. And, Facebook has been “throttling” P&P’s page for some time.

When we asked for information corroborating Kyle J. Howard’s claims he was in a gang (which are absurd claims, by the way), his friends at The Gospel Coalition, Beth Moore, and others continued to rally their fans to get us banned, blocked, and boycotted from tech companies for “hate speech,” which you can read about here. This is eerily similar to Instagram censoring Trump Jr for questioning Smollett’s false claims of victimhood.

May 11 Controlling Your Thoughts

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:1–17

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 2:16

“Who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

The computer age is here to stay and, along with it, a new dictionary of technological terms. One that we should be familiar with by now is software, which is the operational basis for all computer systems. Impressive computer hardware is displayed in ads and on desks; but the compact, hidden software makes the system functional.

In a sense a person receives an entirely new software package when he receives Christ as Savior, Lord, and Life. He is taken out of Adam (his old way of living) and placed into Christ (his new way of living). Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, he now has “the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:16), which allows him to align his thoughts with those of Christ and to view life from God’s perspective.

Such thoughts do not automatically register, however. Our old software package of selfishly oriented, independent thinking has made deep inroads into our personalities. We are presented daily with the mind-set of a godless world and the darts of our constant adversary, the devil.

Experiencing the benefits of your new nature and your new mind depends upon the daily introduction of spiritual programming provided by the Father for your new life in Christ.

Dear God, thank You for reprogramming me—taking out the old, pouring in the new. I praise You that I now have the mind of Christ, which allows me to align my thoughts to view life from Your perspective.[1]

May 11 Praying with Confidence

Scripture reading: 1 John 5:13–15

Key verse: Hebrews 10:35

Do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.

Too often we approach prayer and worship like a child entering his first day of school—very tentatively. That certainly is not the concept of prayer and worship presented in the Scriptures. Like a proven champion, the believer should exude confidence in his rapport with God: “This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14).

Perhaps one reason for your hesitancy is your uncertainty over what is God’s will in a given situation. You want God’s direction; you seek to obey Him. But how far should you go when you don’t have the path clearly marked? You may not always know God’s will in a particular circumstance, but you can still pray with confidence when you are willing to do the following:

  • Let God have His way. You work and act in a specific manner, but You are ever ready to change course. God knows what is best for you, and you accept His plan, even if you disagree.
  • Glorify Him more than obtain your answer. Your chief purpose is to honor God. Whatever route exalts Him—not just blesses you—is the path you seek to walk.
  • Praise Him regardless of the outcome. You can confidently give thanks in all things, knowing that God is in control.

Dear Lord, search my heart and reveal my true motives. I want to glorify You more than just obtain answers to my problems.[1]

Jordan Peterson Reveals What Could ‘Fatally Undermine the Radical Left’ | Sputnik International

Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson shot to fame following his refusal to use gender-neutral pronouns and has become one of the most prominent public speakers in recent time.

Jordan Peterson, the self-styled “professor against political correctness”, has shared his ideas on what might crush the ideology of so-called “cultural Marxism”, a frequent target of his criticism.

Peterson is a vocal proponent of ‘equality of opportunity’, a political theory based on the idea that all people should be treated similarly, and there should be no arbitrary discrimination based on their ethnicity, religion, sex, etc.

This concept is often set in opposition to ‘equality of outcome’ — the doctrine that says that certain social groups should be given support depending on how much they need, in order to achieve greater fairness of outcomes.

The difference between the two concepts can be illustrated as follows: equality of opportunity means that men and women should have the right to run for parliamentary elections, whereas equality of outcome proponents might argue that women should be granted quotas in parliament, where they are under-represented, to achieve gender equality. For example, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau insisted that half of his cabinet members were women.

“It is my fervent hope, and optimistic belief, that the doctrine of equity contains within it so many intrinsic contradictions that it will fatally undermine the ideology of the radical left,” Peterson wrote in a piece for Canadian newspaper National Post.

“There is simply no excuse for this doctrine,” Peterson believes. He makes the case that it is oversimplified and impossible to implement due to the great diversity of social groups and self-proclaimed identities that pose a possible threat to the desired equality.

While gender quotas are commonly applied through legislation to leadership positions (such as electoral quotas in Scandinavian states or similar proposed initiatives in Australia), Peterson argues that male dominance also persists in jobs with a relatively lower status, such as electricians, construction workers, and plumbers, for instance.

Jordan Peterson speaking with attendees at the 2018 Student Action Summit hosted by Turning Point USA at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida

“Now it doesn’t seem like mere imagination on my part that all the noise about ‘patriarchal domination’ is not directed at the fact that far more men than women occupy what are essentially trade positions,” he says.

“Nor does it seem unreasonable to point out that these are not particularly high-status jobs, although they may pay comparative well.”

“It is also obvious that none of these occupations and their hierarchies, in isolation, can be thoughtfully considered the kind of oppressive patriarchy supposed to constitute the ‘West’, and aimed at the domination and exclusion of women.”

He goes on to conclude that if the demands of leftists for gender equality were to be achieved through strict quota systems, similar measures would have to be introduced vis-à-vis an ever-growing list of social groups.

“After concentrating on sexual equity, it will be high time to consider the same set of actions implemented for equity by race and ethnicity,” he writes. “And then we will be equally obliged, morally, to concentrate on the other places where systemic prejudice is apparently self-evident: social class, age, attractiveness, disability, temperament — even perhaps education and intelligence.”

Bringing these changes about would inevitably require an enormous — and hardly feasible — bureaucratic effort, and Peterson insists that this doctrine is “inexcusable, both morally and practically”.

“It should be roundly rejected (at whatever reasonable personal cost that might be incurred) by anyone who takes the ideas of the excessive left seriously, who is concerned in any genuine sense with the increasingly destructive polarisation of our political discourse, and who wants to stand up and be counted when the radicals come knocking — or pounding — at the door.”

Peterson, who is regularly criticized by the left for his rants against identity politics and the feminist narrative, recently saw Cambridge University revoke his fellowship invitation at the Faculty of Divinity.

Cambridge officials explained that Peterson’s fellowship offer was pulled after the YouTube star was pictures standing alongside a man wearing an “I’m a proud Islamophobe” T-Shirt.  Peterson said he was aware of the slogan but that the man had the right to wear the shirt if he felt like doing it.

“I think the Faculty of Divinity made a serious error of judgement in rescinding their offer to me (and I’m speaking about those unnamed persons who made that specific decision). I think they handled publicising the rescindment in a manner that could hardly have been more narcissistic, self-congratulatory and devious,” he replied.

Investigation on Russia Hoax Origins Intensifies as Bombshell Memo Emerges; Lindsey Graham 2.0 Demands All Communication Between Obama State Department Officials and Foreign Spy Christopher Steele

The investigations on the origins of the Russia probe intensified after a newly-released document showing the apparent political purposes of Christopher Steele’s dossier surfaced.

Lindsey Graham, the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, sent a letter (pdf) to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on May 10 requesting the Department of State provide documents related to communications between the department officials and Steele.

He made the requests after handwritten notes of an Oct. 11, 2016, meeting between then Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Kathleen Kavalec and Steele emerged.

According to the notes, Steele reportedly told Kavalec that he “keen to see this information (the dossier) come to light prior to November 8,” the date of the 2016 presidential election. Steele worked for Fusion GPS—which was paid by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Clinton campaign—during that time period.

“It was unclear until recently, however, how significant her communications with Steele may have been,” Graham wrote in the letter addressed to Pompeo.

The document was able to be released due to the Freedom of Information Act.

In the letter, Graham requested the State Department provide all documents and communications on or after May 1, 2016, between State Department and Department of Justice (DOJ) employees or officials relating to Christopher Steele, the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump, or anyone associated with the Trump campaign.

He also required the State Department to make Kavalec available for a transcribed interview with the Judiciary Committee.

Graham simultaneously sent another letter (pdf) to the Inspector General of the State Department, Michael Horowitz, and asked him to consider the newly-uncovered information in Horowitz’s ongoing investigation into potential FISA abuse surrounding the 2016 election.

“I request that you include, if you have not already, consideration of this new information regarding State Department involvement with the Carter Page FISA warrant, the Steele dossier, and direct communications between State Department officials and Steele,” he wrote in the letter.

Steele made several allegations during the Oct. 11 meeting that were proved to be false by the Mueller report, the Hill reported.

FBI ‘Aware the Dossier Was a Lie’ Before Spying Trump Campaign: Mark Meadows

Two days after the Oct. 11, 2016, meeting, Kavalec forwarded her typed summary to officials showing her concern about Steele’s credibility.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) affirmed to the Hill that Kavalec’s memo was forwarded to the FBI in an Oct. 13, 2016, email, eight days before FBI used Steele and his infamous dossier as key pieces of evidence to justify a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to spy on Trump Campaign adviser Carter Page.

Meadows also believed that the FBI knew the dossier was not credible before the FISA warrant application.

“This once again shows officials at the FBI and DOJ were well aware the dossier was a lie—from very early on in the process all the way to when they made the conscious decision to include it in a FISA application,” he told the Hill. “The fact that Christopher Steele and his partisan research document were treated in any way seriously by our Intelligence Community leaders amounts to malpractice.”

However, according to a footnote on page 15 of the Carter Page FISA application (pdf), the FBI stated that the Steele dossier “has been corroborated,” Steele “be reliable,” and “FBI is unaware of any derogatory information pertaining to” Steele.

The evidence is mounting that Comey deceived the FISA court concerning the Steele dossier. State did a quick verification and threw Steele out. Comey did no verification for 5 months and conducted an illicit SPYING OPERATION. Let’s see how long Dem media protects Comey.

— Rudy Giuliani (@RudyGiuliani) May 9, 2019

Rudy Giuliani, President Trump’s lawyer, expressed his concern that Former FBI Director James Comey “deceived the FISA court.”

“The evidence is mounting that Comey deceived the FISA court concerning the Steele dossier. State did a quick verification and threw Steele out. Comey did no verification for 5 months and conducted an illicit SPYING OPERATION. Let’s see how long Dem media protects Comey,” he tweeted.

Not Politically Correct, Microsoft Word Will Correct You — Pulpit & Pen

Is Microsoft trying to rehabilitate the image of Clippy?

Sure, the hypercaffeinated anthropomorphic paperclip designed to “assist” you in your writing may have been the worst addition to Microsoft Office ever. “Hi! It looks like you’re writing a breakup letter! Can I help you with some reasons why your significant other might not be the one for you?”

That digital irritant may have been removed from the program over a decade ago, but it still represents a nadir in Microsoft Word development.

I’m not sure anything can replace that stupid paperclip, but according to the business magazine Fast Company, Microsoft is rolling out a series of features called “Ideas in Word” to help users with their writing — and one of those features will have to do with whether your writing is sufficiently woke.

“Microsoft will soon preview a version of Word that will use artificial intelligence to make your writing not just grammatically but politically correct,” Fast Company reported Wednesday.

“Microsoft doesn’t call it a ‘political correctness check,’ but that’s essentially what it is. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.”

Sure, Jerry. I will grumblingly admit there are some interesting features here, including a tool that tells you how long a document will take to read and one that decodes acronyms.

It can pick out key points from a piece of text, Engadget reports, and help you with putting style tables together.

All right, cool. But then there’s this: It’ll underline words and phrases it thinks are politically incorrect or insensitive and then suggest replacements.

“Say you write, ‘We need to get some fresh blood in here,’” Fast Company reports. “The AI is likely to underline ‘fresh blood’ and suggest ‘new employees’ instead.”

Maxine Waters has no room to scream impeachment while daughter pockets another $183k from her campaign | Conservative News Today

Mad Maxine … credit … Fox News

Repeated ethics complaints filed against California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters have only seemingly served to increase the amounts being billed by her daughter to Waters’ campaign committee for the service of producing endorsement mailers, also called slate mailers.

According to Federal Election Commission filings, Waters made payments totaling $50,000 to her daughter Karen in the first quarter of 2019. Another $133,000 is still owed to her that the campaign will make payments on going forward.

The sweet deal Karen Waters has had since 2004 involves running a slate mailer that is sent to about 200,000 residents in South Central Los Angeles that contains a sample ballot and statement by Maxine Waters endorsing other California Democrat candidates who pay five-figure sums to be included in the mailers.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, “The operation brought in $400,000 from candidates running for office during the midterm election cycle, including $52,000 from now-governor Gavin Newsom. Waters’s campaign received more than 20 separate checks of $10,000 or more from other committees this past cycle.

“Karen Waters has greatly benefited from overseeing the slate mailers and has pocketed north of $800,000 over the years,” the Beacon reported.

Numerous complaints to the FEC against Waters over the practice through the years have failed to stop the practice. The FEC issued an advisory opinion in 2004 allowing Waters to run the operation from her federal campaign committee. Using slate mailers is a common practice in  California and Oregon, and the racket is increasingly coming under heavy scrutiny.

The Beacon reports that “Waters appears to be the only federal candidate to run a slate mailer operation from a federal committee, according to a search of the FEC’s database.”

Roger Stone Asks for Evidence Russians Hacked DNC Server – Court Won’t Provide It Because They Don’t Have the Proof — The Gateway Pundit

Roger Stone is requesting proof that the Russians hacked tehe DNC server, as was reported in the Mueller report.  He claims if the Russians didn’t hack the DNC, his case should be dismissed.  The problem for the Mueller team is that they and the FBI have never reportedly actually looked at the server.

Roger Stone and his legal team are requesting the report from Crowdstrike, the firm connected with the Deep State who reportedly did inspect the DNC server after emails were released by WikiLeaks.

Their position is that if the Mueller team did not inspect the server, or the FBI, then how can they know that the server was hacked. This logical argument makes sense –

The Mueller team is fighting back against the Stone team and arguing that it is not necessary to see the documents that support that Russia hacked the DNC –

We’ve been saying for months that the entire Russia collusion delusion is a sham.  To date there has been no information reported that ascertains that the DNC was hacked by the Russians.  No reports to date show that the DNC server was inspected by the Mueller team and the FBI.  Since this is the case, there is no way the Mueller team can claim the server was hacked.

More people believe that the DNC has emails stolen by an insider and this is how the DNC emails reached WikiLeaks.  The WikiLeaks team has stated numerous times that Russians did not provide them the DNC emails.

Since there is no proof for the emails being hacked, the reports Russians involved in the collusion delusion evaporate.  This would and should destroy the entire Russian sham make-believe case.

The major problem Stone has with his case is that his judge is the corrupt Obama appointed  Judge Amy Berman Jackson.  As we reported a couple of days ago, the judge overseeing the Roger Stone case, Amy Berman Jackson, has demanded that she see the entire unredacted Mueller sham report in order to oversee Stone’s case. Judge Jackson is a corrupt Obama appointee who will go to any length to stop a conservative from receiving justice.

Sadly, Judge Jackson has a horrible far left record on the bench. In 2013 Judge Jackson rejected arguments from the Catholic Church that Obamacare’s requirements that employers provide cost free coverage of contraceptive services in spite of being contrary to their religious beliefs. This was overturned by the Supreme Court.

In 2017 Judge Jackson dismissed the wrongful death suit against Hillary Clinton filed by two of the families who lost loved ones in Benghazi. The families argued that Clinton had done little to help their sons and then lied to cover it up.

Then on January 19, 2018, Paul Manafort’s case was reassigned to Judge Jackson on January 19th, a few weeks after being filed.

No individual who disagrees with Obama will receive justice in Judge Jackson’s court.

Judge Jackson was next somehow assigned to the Roger Stone case. She also placed a gag order on Stone as she did Manafort, preventing him from defending himself in the public square while Jackson’s colleagues in the media and at the Mueller team defame Stone daily.

Judge Jackson ordered that she should see sections of the Mueller report related to Roger Stone –

A federal judge in Washington on Thursday ordered the Justice Department to turn over any unredacted sections of Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s report on Russian activities during the 2016 presidential campaign that relate to longtime Republican political operative Roger Stone.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson gave federal prosecutors until Monday to “submit unredacted versions of those portions of the report that relate to defendant Stone and/or ‘the dissemination of hacked materials.’” Jackson said she would review the material in private to see if it is relevant to the case and to decide whether Stone and his defense team will have access to the material, likely under strict supervision.

Roger Stone will have to wait until corrupt judge Jackson looks at the unredacted Mueller report and determine whether he is allowed to see it! This is unbelievable!!!

Mueller, Weissmann and Judge Amy Berman Jackson should be thrown in jail for their blatant abuse of the US judicial system in torturing and destroying the lives of those who worked with President Trump all based on a pile of lies. Americans want justice!

Heard From God Lately? — Christian Research Service

T. A. McMahon
The Berean Call
www.thebereancall.org
March 2019

Let’s say I were to voice the question, “Heard from God lately?” to a very large crowd that had a mix of Christians and non-Christians. Among the crowd would be professing Christians, biblical Christians, cessationist Christians, charismatic Christians, pentecostal Christians, contemplative Christians, progressive Christians, conservative Christians, as well as a few agnostics, skeptics, and atheists.

Their first thoughts related to a response to my question, no doubt, would be as diverse as their religious perspectives. For example, atheists and skeptics would think I was delusionary. Agnostics wouldn’t think much about it nor probably even care. Contemplative Christians would react to my question as supportive of their intuitive feelings-oriented approach to hearing from God. Some of the charismatic and pentecostal Christians might respond in the same way. Conservative Christians and those with a cessationist bent might worry that I had bailed on the written Word of God in favor of personal subjective communication with Jesus. All biblical Christians, I would hope, would restrain themselves from thinking ill of me doctrinally for at least a few minutes. They would give me the opportunity to explain what I meant by my question and then would search the Scriptures to see whether or not it was true.

Let me make a seemingly controversial statement before I start explaining myself. If someone who calls himself a Christian is not hearing from God, he’s in trouble—not potential trouble, but serious trouble—guaranteed. His situation is like that of a man in the middle of a minefield without a map or any device to guide him and keep him out of harm’s way. That said, what do I mean by “hearing from God?”

I need to begin with what I believe is the Lord’s responsibility: God has to communicate with those whom He created. Why? Because there are only a limited number of things we can know about Him without His communicating to us directly. Everyone who recognizes that the universe and everything in it must have had a Creator/Designer would also understand that the Creator must be infinitely intelligent and powerful. That awareness, however, doesn’t supply necessary details about the Creator that only He can provide. Furthermore, He is infinite, and we are finite; our own efforts to figure out an infinite God cannot go beyond mere guesswork. That same ignorance applies to knowledge about ourselves.

Let us reason for a moment. What are some of the things that only God can supply? Well, for one thing, knowledge of who He is! Then there are His characteristics and attributes, as well as His reasons for creating us. What about humanity’s condition right after its creation and its later rebellion and separation from Him? Then we learn of His plan for reconciliation between Himself and those very creatures!

Without God communicating such information to us, we’re left in a quagmire of speculations, conjectures, theories, and unsubstantiated opinions. Therefore, not only must God communicate with us, but He must do it in a way that we finite and fallen beings can understand. This He has already done through His direct communication to us, which is—His Word. His Scriptures. His Bible!

What then of the question: “Heard from God lately?” If what we’ve heard isn’t grounded in the written Word of God, we’re more than likely in that minefield mentioned earlier. Each step is precarious, even though the first one may not blow our feet off. But as National Park rangers instruct and warn hikers, it’s the first step off the marked trail that leads to their becoming lost.

The Bible is filled with instructions, exhortations, and warnings regarding the necessity of carefully adhering to what it says. Hebrews chapter 2 begins, “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” Is “slippage” something to be concerned about? Second Timothy 4:3-4 declares, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” Jesus, in Matthew:24:4, warns, “Take heed that no man deceive you.” Not earnestly heeding the instructions of God’s written Word is the basis for one’s drifting away, or, as noted, stepping off the “marked trail” that God, in His mercy, has laid out before us.

What the Bible supplies is “sound doctrine,” meaning those teachings that were given to and faithfully recorded by God’s prophets through the Holy Spirit. They are objective teachings from God, bereft of the subjective input of men. They are God’s words, not man’s (Galatians:1:11-12). Yet we are told prophetically that a time will come among professing and true Christians that they will not endure (continue steadfastly) in God’s instructions. False teachers will seduce them through their doctrines. That fact is confirmed in the warning given by Jesus in answer to His disciples concerning the last days prior to His return, which He characterized as being a time of great deception (Matthew:24:4,24). Although that time is certainly upon us, the antidote for individual believers is found in the Apostle Paul’s exhortation to Timothy that he “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy:4:2). “Enduring” sound doctrine means reading it, believing it, and living it out.

Going back to the question, “Heard from God lately?”—how lately is “lately”? I’m hoping the response is overwhelmingly “daily!” There is no better habit for the believer in Jesus Christ than to read the Bible daily—at least none of which I am aware. Here are just some of the reasons. Those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He paid the full penalty for their sins, have been born again. They have received the free gift of eternal life and have begun a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus their Savior. Of course, that includes loving Him.

For any relationship to develop, an increase in the knowledge that individuals have of one another is key. Everyone knows that’s the way it is when it comes to people with whom they physically interact, whether they be newlyweds, or in a relationship with new friends or new co-workers, etc. What about someone we want to personally befriend but whom we can’t physically be with? We might consider becoming pen pals or “email pals,” which may satisfy the desire to get to know them better.

Well, then what about developing a relationship with Jesus? That takes place through the reading of His Word. It’s through the Scriptures that we learn who He is, what He has done for us, what He wants for our lives, and how much He loves us. We’re told, “We love Him, because He first loved us” (1 John:4:19). The more we learn of all He has done for us, the more our relationship with Him grows. That’s at the heart of my question, “Heard from God lately?” If we’re not hearing from Jesus daily through the reading of His Word (He is the Word! [Revelation:19:13]), our relationship with Him will suffer—at best. The circumstances that occurred with those in the Ephesian church, who, we are told, had “left their first love,” Jesus Himself (Revelation:2:4), happened because of their allowance for things—some of them even good—to hinder their love relationship with Him. So, too, will our love for Him be strangled by our own negligence to connect with Him through the Scriptures.

Why does this happen to many believers who are, or should be, aware of the horrendous price He paid in order to save them from their sins? The reasons, among many, include worldly distractions, backsliding, laziness, loving self more than Him, and, for increasing numbers of folks, being deceived regarding how we are to communicate with Him.

The first means of growing in our relationship with Jesus must be through the written words of Scripture, which is God’s objective communication to humanity. This is critical, because our interpretation of the Word can be tested on an objective basis, according to principles of hermeneutics. The major deception of our day, which began in the Garden of Eden with Satan’s ploy of subtly undermining God’s command to Adam and Eve, is to replace what God has indeed said with man’s false interpretations. Such interpretations are too often formulated through emotions, impressions, personal sensitivities, intuitions, and so forth. Those who take such an approach rely on their feelings for their understanding. This may also lead to the error of eisegesis, i.e., introducing one’s own presuppositions, agendas, or biases into and onto a biblical text. When the experiential dominates a person’s life, God’s truth is lost.

Next we are going to look at some of the meanings regarding the question “Heard from God lately?” that are understood in ways that are seriously at odds with what’s been presented above in this article. Of late, there has been a rush away from the objective interpretation of Scripture. Now, many insist that they are hearing from God personally with little or no regard to His Word at all! This is not new in church history. In the third century ad, the Catholic Desert Fathers were all about hearing from God mystically. That precedent continued into the Catholic monastic and cloistered period and through mystical nuns such as Teresa of Avila and Anne Catherine Emmerich, then into the 20th century via priests and monks such as Thomas Merton and Henri Nouwen. The latter deceased priest has become a particular favorite of many influential evangelicals, including Rick and Kay Warren. Quaker Richard Foster and his Renovaré organization have been instrumental in influencing the Contemplative Movement, with its mystical methods (meditation techniques and spiritual rituals drawn from Eastern mysticism), to spread throughout evangelicalism today.

What has taken place in a greater way among Pentecostals and Charismatics is the very same spiritual subjectivism, albeit cloaked in biblical terminology. Some of their leaders give the impression (intentionally) that they are in a continual conversation with God. One of the false doctrines they conjure up to support their heresies is the teaching that God has two basic but different modes of communication: logos and rhema. Their belief is that logos is God’s communication through the written word, and rhema is His spoken word. No. In fact, the terms are used interchangeably throughout the New Testament. Moreover, according to this doctrine, God’s oral transmission has authority (they call it “new revelation”) over His logos, which means that the hearers are beyond being corrected by Scripture! Like Satan (Genesis:3:1-4), the leaders in this movement continually add to, undermine, and contradict God’s Word, while their followers willingly conform to whatever those over them may claim. All of those connected with the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) and ministries such as the International House of Prayer (IHOP), Bethel Church Redding, and the Elijah List are among those who promote this error.

Hearing from God experientially seems to be an accepted practice among some of the most influential women in ministry today. Even a cursory review of the teachings of Beth Moore, Joyce Meyer, Priscilla Shirer, Sarah Young, and Jennie Allen of the IF:Gathering (and her conference speakers) reveals a preponderance of “conversations with God” and little to no exegesis of the Scriptures. It can’t be overstated how dangerous this subjective teaching and pursuit is to millions of Christian women spiritually. Worse than just taking a step off the path of God’s Word, it’s a step off a cliff with nothing objective (e.g., sound doctrine) in sight to grab onto. Once a believer buys into the “God told me” stories of others, biblical doctrine quickly mixes with and is lost in a jumble of personal experiences. More often than not, the subjective experiences and teachings replace sound doctrine and are accepted as being true to and even supplanting the Scriptures. It then becomes a clear case of adding to God’s Word, a practice that the Bible condemns (Proverbs:30:5-6, Revelation:22:18-19).

Are all subjective personal experiences with Jesus likewise condemned? No. Everyone who has believed the gospel began a personal intimate relationship with Him. That can’t take place without the involvement, to some degree, of one’s emotions. It may also include some form of personal communication with Jesus—if He chooses, how He chooses, and when He chooses. The principle of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit personally interacting with believers is found throughout Scripture. Paul’s life in Christ reveals his often-subjective guidance and communication with the Holy Spirit. Subjective? Yes. For example, Paul is forbidden by the Spirit to preach in Bithynia and is redirected to Macedonia (Acts:16:7-10). That communication was subjective, meant only for Paul at that time. Was this an objective command of God, indicating that believers are never to go to Bithynia to preach? No! Peter writes to believers in Bithynia, so obviously the gospel was preached and believed there (1 Peter:1:1-2). Three things are demonstrated in those verses and many others: 1) The principle that God communicates to believers is established; 2) He communicates objectively through instructions and commands for all who read His Word, and 3) He communicates personally and subjectively with individual believers.

Should the Lord choose to communicate with a believer on a personal basis, that must neither be received as though it were equal to the Scriptures nor put forth in any way that supplements or supplants God’s Word. Furthermore, as with every spiritual experience, it must be tested: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…” (1 John:4:1). The critical test is whether or not the content of the communication or the experience is a) true to the teachings of Scripture and b) true to the revealed character of the persons of the Godhead.

Books promoting conversations with God such as God Calling, A Course in Miracles, Conversations with God, and Jesus Calling, to name but a few, have become best sellers within Christendom, mostly because few Christians seem interested in applying biblical discernment, which is in direct disobedience to Paul’s exhortation to Timothy: “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy:2:15). The two women who channeled “Jesus” in God Calling said they felt highly privileged for being “selected” to be personally taught by him, and indicated that they were more comfortable not having to rely on written words. Who wouldn’t want to be personally spoon fed by Jesus and be convinced that His teaching content was at a higher level than what has been written down in the Bible? That’s an incredibly powerful seduction and one that is deceiving millions in Christendom today.

Pray for those who have been drawn in by those who “speak not according to [God’s] word” (Isaiah:8:20); and pray for the shepherds who are not shielding their sheep by warning them in solemn words that “Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Proverbs:30:5-6).

Saturday Sampler: May 5 — May 11 — The Outspoken TULIP

After reporting on the sad death of false teacher Rachel Held Evans last Saturday, Elizabeth Prata got verbally abused on both her blog and Twitter. She responds positively to this abuse in her essay, Disciples of false teachers, their anger, and what we can learn from this opportunity, which appears in The End Time.

Writing for the Grace to You Blog, Phil Johnson discusses The New Segregation that actually questions if white people can be saved. What a spiteful perversion of the Gospel!

Concluding his series on being salt and light for The Cripplegate, Jordan Standridge reveals The Reason God Made Us Salt and Light. He embeds all the other articles into the text of this post, making it easy to review them.

Leslie A exposes Five Lies Satan Really Wants You to Believe in Growing 4 Life. Have you fallen for any of these popular deceptions? I think we all have at one time or another. Thankfully, Leslie brings us to Scriptures that refute Satan’s lies and correct our thinking. This article stands out as a must read!

Apparently, Beth Moore and other women plan to preach sermons on  Mother’s Day. Owen Strachan responds to this disturbing trend by writing Divine Order in a Chaotic Age: Women Preaching for Patheos. He makes superb points that all of us should heed.

The Cripjgegate features a second notable post — this time by Eric Davis. A New Kind of Pharisee profiles social media pundits who are too busy advancing new rules of Social Justice to engage in thoughtful conversation.

Discernment bloggers of late have fallen under suspicion — some of them quite deservedly, I’m sorry to say. Mike Leake, who blogs at Borrowed Light, analyzes this trend in The Art of the Unintended Consequence. I recommend his post with the caveat that several discernment bloggers still do speak truth in a measured and loving manner. Don’t let Leake make you fearful of discernment ministry as a whole.

Mike Ratliff of Possessing the Treasure takes no prisoners! His piece, The superiority of Christ, the cost of discipleship, and the genuine Gospel cuts away at the pablum that most 21st Century churches spew, bringing us back to core Biblical principles.

In Knowable Word, Peter Krol shows us How to Understand the Context of the Psalms (something I’ve never thought about). Please don’t pass this one up — it gives refreshing insight into how we can worship though the Psalms.

With a righteous indignation that more of us should have, Michelle Lesley wears out her laptop with The Mother of All Rebellions: Having a Woman Preach on Mother’s Day. Praise God for people like Michelle who stand on God’s Word rather than kowtow to the defiance of our secular culture!

May 11, 2019 Afternoon Verse Of The Day

34:4 the land of which I swore. See 1:7–8. Deuteronomy begins and ends with the theme of the land promised by God. I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there. See 1:37 and note on 1:37–38.[1]

34:4 What Moses saw was the land God had promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob hundreds of years earlier as part of the covenant blessing (Gn 12:1; 13:14–17; 15:18–21). Though Moses could see the land with his own eyes, he was forbidden access to it because of his sin of dishonoring the Lord in the eyes of the people of Israel (32:51). See, however, Mt 17:3.[2]

The Real Democratic Agenda: To Impeach Trump — National Review

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi at a Capitol Hill press conference, February 28, 2019. (Joshua Roberts/Reuters)

It’s all that holds the different factions of the party together.

And you thought that Democrats won the House out of fear Republicans would drop coverage of preexisting conditions. That they wanted to spend this Congress addressing the cost of prescription drugs, building roads and bridges, resolving the legal status of DACA recipients, expanding gun background checks. Don’t be silly! Rashida Tlaib let spill the real Democratic agenda back in January, when she said they were going to “impeach the motherf***er.”

Democrats have a problem. The base wants to impeach President Trump, ASAP, but the public does not. Indeed, Trump’s approval rating is the highest it’s been in the Gallup survey, right around Obama’s at this point in his term. The brute facts of public opinion suggest that the impeachment of Trump would look more like Bill Clinton’s trial than Richard Nixon’s. Not only would Trump remain in office; the backlash might deprive the Democrats of their 17-seat House majority.

For months, Nancy Pelosi’s solution has been to walk right up to the line of impeachment without actually crossing it. Unleash committee chairmen to fire their subpoena cannons in every direction. Make unrealistic demands of Attorney General Barr. Have Swalwell and Lieu and the rest of the cable gang keep alive the conspiracy theory that the Trump campaign was in criminal cahoots with Russia. Drag out the process into next year, when a weakened and bedraggled Trump faces the eventual Democratic nominee. That way Pelosi gets the political benefits of impeachment without the costs.

It’s not working. Pelosi’s rhetoric has moved in the direction of Rashida’s (minus the profanity). She’s gone from saying Trump isn’t worth impeachment, to saying Trump is goading the Democrats into impeachment, to saying Trump is “self-impeaching,” if that’s even a thing. She jokes about the jail cell in the basement of Congress, her Judiciary Committee has found Barr in contempt, and she shares Jerry Nadler’s hysterical opinion that the United States is in the midst of a constitutional crisis because he can’t read the grand-jury information of a report you can download for free. On the other side of the building, Chuck Schumer is accusing Mitch McConnell of aiding and abetting a crime that Robert Mueller could not bring himself to say actually happened.

What changed? President Trump’s preference for confrontation over consensus is part of the reason, but only a part. Congress and the president fight all the time. The reality is that impeachment talk is the only thing holding the Democrats together. Pelosi’s heralded agenda is a flop. Her party is divided on health care, on immigration, on abortion. Whatever legislation she does pass is destined to meet the Grim Reaper in the Senate. The two dozen 2020 candidates are uninspiring. There’s no war to defund. And the economic headlines are dynamite.

Legal warfare against Trump obscures these weaknesses. Doesn’t matter if no voter brings up Mueller outside the Beltway. Without teasing impeachment, no one would care about Democrats inside the Beltway. Two of three cable news channels are desperate for Trump scandals, real or imagined. The Democrats might as well give it to them. Or at least pretend to.

In recent weeks the Democrats have turned into a bizarre version of the caricature of Trump they regularly denounce. They lambaste Trump for indulging in conspiracy theories, but the Russia investigation has become their Benghazi, a scandal too complicated and not quite substantive enough to inflame the public imagination. They went after Trump for the “lock her up” chants at his rallies but flirt with jailing both the attorney general and secretary of the Treasury, passed a New York state law directed at a single individual (forbidden in the Constitution as a bill of attainder), and speculate endlessly about how the president might one day end up behind bars. Pelosi says she worries Trump might not accept a loss in 2020 as Hillary Clinton says the election was stolen from her and the entire Democratic party indulges in the ludicrous fantasy that Stacey Abrams is the legitimate governor of a state she lost by more than 50,000 votes amid record minority turnout.

This is not a serious party. It has abandoned policy for litigation, and common sense for fantasies of Medicare for All, Green New Deals, abortion after birth, and slavery reparations. The Democrats assume impeachment will be Trump’s Watergate. It may well turn out to be their Waterloo.
