Apologetics Dood’s Animated Dialogues on Presuppositional Apologetics

The Domain for Truth

Here are some animated Youtube video by “Apologetics Dood” that is pretty much a skit of what Presuppositional apologetics (Van Tillian) dialogues look like in action.  They have been loaded up recently.

I like the back and forth exchange that raises objections one commonly see when one engage an unbeliever with Presuppositional apologetics.

As more is being loaded online I hope to add more to them here.

Seventh Day Adventist to Speak at SBC2015

Polemics Report

“Unity which is not based upon the truth of God is not communion, but rather a conspiracy.” Spurgeon, April 1887

Ben Carson, who first made waves by a politically incorrect speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in 2013 and potential candidate in the Republican primary for president, has been invited to speak at the Southern Baptist Pastor’s Conference. Carson, a surgeon and stalwart defender of religious liberty, happens to be a Seventh Day Adventist.

Seventh Day Adventists, if you are unaware, have an aberrant theology. The “Adventist” in their name refers to 1843, when followers of William Miller (the “Millerites”) believed his prophecy, that Jesus would return that year. After the failed prophecy, Miller – like modern day Harold Camping – blamed the failure on his math and made a subsequent prophecy for 1844. After that failed prophecy regarding Christ’s advent, the Millerites broke up.

The Millerites, however, needed somewhere…

Why Is Obama So Silent About The Vicious Persecution Of Christians All Over The Globe?

As you read this article, Christians are being openly persecuted in more than 60 nations. Churches are being burned, believers are being hunted down and imprisoned, and violent mobs are beating and killing those that dare to say that Jesus is Lord. And thanks to ISIS, the persecution of Christians has risen to frightening new levels in 2015. In recent months, our news sources have been filled with headlines about Christians that are being beheaded, crucified and buried alive by ISIS. According to U.S. Representative Frank Wolf, what is happening to Christians in the Middle East actually meets the United Nations definition of “genocide”. So what is Barack Obama doing about all of this? Sadly, he is essentially doing next to nothing. He has been nearly silent as the acts of mass violence just keep piling up. This silence has outraged many on both the left and the right, and yet Obama just continues to keep quiet. What are we supposed to make of that? (Read More…)

Hopium: How Far Can Irrational Optimism Take The U.S. Economy?

If enough people truly believe that things will get better, will that actually cause them to get better? There is certainly something to be said for being positive and thinking that anything is possible. And as Americans, optimism seems to come naturally for us. However, no amount of positive thinking is ever going to turn the sun into a block of wood or turn the moon into a block of cheese. Any good counselor will tell you that one of the first steps toward recovery is to stop being delusional and to come to grips with how bad things really are. When we deny reality and engage in irrational wishful thinking, we are engaging in something called “hopium”. This is a difficult term to define, but the favorite definition of hopium that I have come across so far goes like this: “The irrational belief that, despite all evidence to the contrary, things will turn out for the best.” In hundreds of articles, I have documented how the U.S. economy is mired in a long-term decline which is about to get a lot worse. But most Americans see things very differently. In fact, according to a brand new CNN/ORC poll, 52 percent of Americans describe the U.S. economy as “very” or “somewhat good”, and more than two-thirds of all Americans believe that the U.S. economy will be in “good shape” a year from right now. But if you asked most of those people why they are so optimistic, they would probably mumble something about “Obama” or about how “we’re Americans and we always bounce back” or some other such gibberish. Well, it’s wonderful that so many people are feeling good and looking forward to the future, but are those beliefs rational? (Read More….)

Clinton Foundation Profited While Russia Seized U.S. Uranium

Today, Russia controls a fifth of the uranium production in the United States, according to The New York Times. Needless to say, this is the bitter fruit of the Obama administration’s foolish “Russian reset.” Thanks, Hillary Clinton. While a Russian company was taking over energy company Uranium One from 2009 to 2013, millions of dollars tied to the company’s previous owners ended up in the Clinton Foundation’s coffers. When the deal was made public, Bill Clinton was invited to speak to a Kremlin-linked bank that was promoting the stock of Uranium One. He was paid $500,000. So not only did the Clintons profit off of Russia, but Hillary did so while damaging national security in her critical position at the State Department.

Obama spokesman Josh Earnest wouldn’t deny that Clinton Foundation activity influenced the former secretary of state’s actions, saying, “I’m not going to be in a position here where every time someone raises a spurious claim that I’m going to be the one to sit down here and say it’s not true.” But the Clinton Foundation is refilling its tax returns because there were “errors.” Apparently, the nonprofit didn’t properly disclose donations from U.S. and foreign governments from 2010 to 2012 — y’know, when Clinton was secretary of state. That’s a tacit admission there’s much more here than a vast right-wing conspiracy, and the nonprofit may be the thing that finally brings Clinton’s career to a close. More…

VA Helped ATF Seize Veterans’ Guns

By now, most everyone knows about the Veterans Affairs wait-time scandal. But health care isn’t the only thing for which the VA is making our veterans wait. The Daily Caller reports, “The Department of Veterans Affairs is disarming America’s veterans by getting them placed on the FBI’s criminal background-check list. The VA sends veterans’ personal medical and financial information directly to the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, which can seize their guns in home raids.” Sen. Chuck Grassley sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding to know why “99.3% of all names reported to the NICS list’s ‘mental defective’ category were provided by the Veterans Administration (VA) even though reporting requirements apply to all federal agencies.” That’s a great question, and one that we’re not holding our breath for Holder to answer. Disarming the public — even veterans specifically trained to use weapons — is a key objective for the Obama administration, and they’ll use whatever means necessary. More…

Cleveland Recreates Gun Offender Registry

Thumbing its collective nose at Ohio state law, the city of Cleveland passed a battery of gun control laws April 20. Among the changes, the city plans on running a gun-offender registry, requiring residents to notify police when they sell firearms and jailing anyone for six month who doesn’t secure guns to the extent the city deems they should. The measures overreach the state’s gun laws. The editorial board of The Plain Dealer and Northeast Ohio Media Group supported the gun control ordinances. “The legislation also is a direct challenge to state lawmakers who have sought at every turn, abetted by misguided Supreme Court rulings, to deny Ohio cities their constitutionally guaranteed home-rule rights when it comes to gun laws,” the board wrote. “In 2010, the state high court overturned a Cleveland ban on assault weapons as well as city handgun registration requirements. This legislation could be challenged on similar grounds. But until then, it is law.” On April 21, Ohioans For Concealed Carry sued the city over the ordinances. “Shall not be infringed” doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room for anti-gun cities to create a patchwork of laws that make a constitutionally sanctioned act criminal in one zip code but not the next. Democrats Trade Blows Over Trade

By Allyne Caan

2015-04-23-8fe2fa28_large.jpg

When Republicans disagree with Barack Obama, it’s par for the course; when Democrats revolt against their dear leader, it’s downright entertaining. Obama, who once could do no wrong, now has congressional liberals bucking his bid to push forward a free-trade agreement with 12 Pacific Rim nations via fast-track legislation.

At issue is bipartisan, bicameral trade-promotion authority (TPA) legislation, introduced last week by Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI). It would give the president authority, within the parameters of certain rules, to negotiate the Asian trade agreement and present it to Congress for an up-or-down vote, no amendments allowed. Obama claims such authority is necessary to close negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a 12-nation free-trade deal that some say would be jeopardized if the participating nations think Congress may amend the deal after terms are finalized.

But while Republicans generally favor free trade, many high-powered liberals oppose Obama and are saying “not so fast,” despite the fact that almost every president since FDR has had similar authority. One reason for the opposition could be that the powerful AFL-CIO, which, according to OpenSecrets.org, spent $1 million supporting Democrat candidates in the 2014 election cycle and an equal amount opposing Republicans, has not only come out strongly against TPA but also announced it is suspending campaign contributions to federal candidates in order to fight the White House trade plans.

Obama promised he will sign his name only “to an agreement that helps ordinary Americans get ahead.” But Democrats opposing him aren’t buying it. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), for example, said, “All evidence I’ve seen is that this hurts middle-class incomes,” and as a result he “can’t be for it.”

Former Maryland governor and potential Democrat presidential candidate Martin O’Malley also declared his opposition to TPP, writing in an email to supporters, “To me, opposing bad trade deals like TPP is just common sense.”

Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who championed an Asian trade pact while secretary of state, hasn’t yet taken a public position on TPP. After all, any AFL-CIO contributions may have to outweigh whatever the Clinton Foundation brought in. Hillary’s positions go to the highest bidder.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) believes only a quarter of Senate Democrats are with the White House. In Durbin’s words, “A fourth, hell no; a fourth, lean yes; and a big group undecided.” At least one of those “hell no’s” comes from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who said of supporting the TPA, “You couldn’t find a person to ask this question who feels more negatively about it than I do. … So the answer is not only no, but hell no.”

Also in Reid’s camp is Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, who wrote a scathing opposition to the TPP and fast-track legislation, claiming the government doesn’t want Americans to see what’s in the deal. For Democrats, that’s usually a plus (think ObamaCare), but how do the arguments change when Warren tries to fight a trade deal.

Of Warren specifically, and of TPA and TPP’s detractors generally, Obama said they are “wrong on this,” adding that while “some of the information that has been getting thrown out there plays into legitimate fears that Democratic voters have, and progressives have, it’s simply not true. It’s simply not the facts.”

Come on. When have “progressives” ever cared about facts?

The Senate Finance Committee approved TPA Wednesday night by a vote of 20-6, and the bill now moves to the full Senate, where most believe it will pass. On the House side, however, the outcome is less certain, as the vote count is tighter. Some House conservatives are (understandably) hesitant about giving Obama any additional power, meaning at least some Democrat “yes” votes will be needed.

But with the intraparty fight in full swing, it’s a question all its own whether Democrats will pause long enough to cast those votes.

OPINION IN BRIEF

FRC president Tony Perkins: “Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) chief Michele Leonhart [is] stepping down after a Department of Justice Inspector General’s (IG) report documented that DEA agents in Colombia had participated in ‘sex parties’ with prostitutes — in some cases hired by the very drug cartels the agents were supposed to be fighting. This comes following a similar well-publicized scandal in Colombia (where prostitution is tolerated) involving Secret Service agents, but the IG report covered problems of sexual harassment and misconduct not only in the DEA, but also in the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Meanwhile, the Defense Department continues to struggle with problems of sexual assault and pornography in the military. White House spokesman Josh Earnest insisted, ‘The president … maintains a very high standard for anybody who serves in his administration.’ Perhaps, however, what President Obama needs to do is engage in some soul-searching about his party’s unqualified affirmation of the values of the sexual revolution — namely, sex without boundaries (such as homosexuality) and without consequences (hence the necessity of abortion). If it is not permissible for the society or culture to demand sexual self-restraint from anyone, it inevitably makes it harder to demand such restraint even in the professional context of the military or law enforcement, which by now, should be very evident.”

Ark Of The Covenant Coverup?

Posted: 23 Apr 2015 06:47 AM PDT

Ark Of The Covenant Coverup? An unauthorized project by Muslim authorities on the Temple Mount has revealed the existence of previously undocumented ancient floor designs at the site thought to be where the Bible’s First and Second Temples once stood, but Israeli archaeologists were denied the opportunity to view them. Nearly two weeks ago Israel National News reported the Waqf, the Muslim authority that administers the Temple Mount, had brought a small tractor into the famous gold-domed Dome of the Rock and dug and removed earth there, claiming the project was to “replace carpet.” The required permission from and supervision by the Antiquities Authority, as well as approval from the Ministerial Committee on Archaeological Digs in Holy Sites, was never obtained. The Waqf denied doing any destructive work. The Dome of the Rock is believed to stand over the site of the two Temples’ Holy of Holies. Word of the new floor mosaics sparked speculation they could point to the location where the golden Ark of the Covenant was hidden 2,500 years ago. “Something is there. I don’t know what. But something is hidden there,” Israeli archaeologist Zachi Dvira, who studies the site, told the London Daily Mail. FULL REPORT

New eruption at Turrialba produced ash column reaching more than 6,500 feet

Posted: 23 Apr 2015 06:40 AM PDT

New eruption at Turrialba produced ash column reaching more than 6,500 feetCosta Rica’s Turrialba volcano erupted again Tuesday afternoon, producing a column of ash, gas, and water vapor that reached some 6,500 feet over the volcano’s crater, according to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI). The eruption began at 4:04 p.m. and continued for 22 minutes, according to OVSICORI. Constant seismic activity has been recorded at the volcano since Saturday, and local residents have reported a strong smell of sulfur for the last several days.San Jose’s Tobias Bolanos Airport announced a partial closure of the airport Tuesday evening due to potential ashfall, but was back to normal operation by Wednesday morning. An eruption of similar magnitude most recently occurred on Tuesday, April 7th. One of Costa Rica’s most well-known volcanologists, Gino Gonzalez of the National Seismological Network (RSN), said in December that Turrialba could remain active and belching ash for as long as two years. Nevado de Ruiz volcano shaken by earthquake swarm, ash emissionsNevado del Ruiz – Activity at the volcano has increased during the past week. Accompanied by elevated seismic activity, ash emissions have been occurring since 14 April. The strongest phase of activity was on 19 April, when ash plumes rose to estimated 900 meters above the summit. The Ingeominas volcano observatory in Manizales reported a change in seismicity detected since 12 April, when an increase in volcanic-tectonic (rock-fracturing) signals was detected, signs of pressurization and possible magma intrusion at depth. Evacuation of 4000 as Calbuco volcano erupts in Chile after 40 Years of Silence

Evacuation of 4000 as Calbuco volcano erupts in Chile after 40 Years of SilenceThe Calbuco volcano in southern Chile has erupted twice in the space of a few hours – having lain dormant for decades. Footage from the area shows a huge column of lava and ash being sent several kilometres into the air. The authorities have declared a red alert and evacuated more than 4,000 people within a 20km (12 mile) radius. The Calbuco volcano is one of the most active in Chile, but its eruption took officials in the area by surprise. Alejandro Verges, an emergency director for the region, said Calbuco had not been under any special form of observation. The inhabitants of the nearby town of Ensenada – along with residents from two other smaller communities – have been ordered to evacuate their homes. Schools in the area have been shut and some flights cancelled. US Steel Warns Of Layoffs In Arkansas And Texas As Trans-Pacific Partnership Looms

US Steel Warns Of Layoffs In Arkansas And Texas As Trans-Pacific Partnership LoomsUnited States Steel Corporation issued layoff notices to 1,404 workers in the latest sign of struggle for the American steel industry. The missives went out in recent days to workers producing pipe and tube products that are used in the oil and gas sector. Job cuts could come as early as June for 17 to 579 employees at a plant in Lone Star, Texas, 166 at a factory in Houston, 255 at a mill in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and 404 managers across the company’s tubular operations nationwide. Since last June, the company has informed 7,800 employees of potential job cuts, a tally from Pittsburgh Business Times indicated. U.S. Steel spokeswoman Sarah Cassella said the ongoing layoffs are the result of “challenging market conditions and global influences in the market including a high level of imports, reduced prices for oil and natural gas and reduced steel prices.” Looming in the distance is the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a proposed trade agreement with 11 other Pacific Rim countries that includes major steel producers like Japan and South Korea, and has the support of the White House. Critics say it could exacerbate domestic steel’s woes. FULL REPORT

Man arrested in France in plot to attack churchesA 24-year-old man is in custody after he called for an ambulance, only to have French authorities come and discover weapons, ammunition and evidence of his plans to target churches — an attack that someone in Syria requested, a top prosecutor said Wednesday. The man was identified later as Sid Ahmed Ghlam, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told television broadcaster TF1. Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins said Ghlam asked for medical help at his home in Paris’ 13th district Sunday morning, claiming he had accidentally injured himself when he mishandled a weapon. The Big One could trigger series of large earthquakes, study finds

Posted: 22 Apr 2015 08:10 PM PDT

The Big One could trigger series of large earthquakes, study findsA new research released Wednesday suggests that the shaking from “the Big One,” the long-predicted major earthquake on the San Andreas fault, could trigger additional large temblors on nearby faults, intensifying the overall seismic impact. The study suggests that such a quake “could presage a flurry of ‘other Big Ones’ on other faults,” said USC earth sciences professor James Dolan, “as stresses related to the original San Andreas fault earthquake are redistributed on other faults throughout Southern California.” The study, being presented by Dolan on Wednesday at a meeting of the Seismological Society of America in Pasadena, focuses on whether earthquakes are generated in “super-cycles.” An earthquake “super-cycle” refers to when a large number of earthquakes rupture on a single fault system in a relatively short period of time, like over a matter of decades or a few centuries. The concept of more than one Big One in a lifetime might feel outlandish to Californians today. But it wasn’t so long ago when this state had more powerful earthquakes more frequently. The San Andreas fault, for example, suffered two major ruptures in the 19th century: an earthquake of about magnitude 7.5 in 1812 and a much worse 7.9 earthquake in 1857. FULL REPORT

New England Journal of Medicine comes out of the closet

Posted: 22 Apr 2015 07:18 PM PDT

New England Journal of Medicine comes out of the closet One week before the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments on the controversial issue, the oldest medical journal in the U.S. has taken an editorial position in support of same-sex marriage. The New England Journal of Medicine, published since 1812, today called on the court to rule on behalf of same-sex marriage advocates, saying to do so is “a matter of justice” and “a measure that promotes health.” “A fundamental tenet of all medical care is the acceptance of patients as they are, for who they are, with respect and without prejudice or personal agendas,” read the editorial. “Medicine and psychiatry once saw homosexuality as deviant behavior and produced many baseless, foolish theories to explain it. Until 1987, it was included (albeit increasingly less prominently) in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, despite mounting evidence to the contrary. And there are still health-care providers who offer ways to ‘treat’ homosexuality as if it were an illness.”This move to endorse what have been the political demands of militant-homosexual activists would come as no surprise to Dr. Nicholas Cummings. Christians facing new status as ‘hated minority’

Posted: 22 Apr 2015 06:51 PM PDT

Christians facing new status as 'hated minority' James Dobson hosted a panel of Christian leaders on his “Family Talk” radio show Wednesday and warned that Christians are about to face a new status in America as a “hated minority” if the U.S. Supreme Court decides, as many expect, to mandate same-sex “marriage.” “The heart of what’s happening is an attempt to impose a new morality on all of America,” said Maggie Gallagher, a traditional-marriage advocate for 25 years. The author of “The Case for Marriage,” Gallagher is co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage and a senior fellow with the American Principles Project. Homosexual advocates have no interest in a “live and let live tolerance,” she said. “After redefining marriage, the next thing on their agenda is to redefine Christianity.” Under the new regimen there will be no difference between man and woman, husband and wife, she said. The attitude is that if you “see something different, there’s something morally wrong with you.” Christianity, she said, “will enter a new phase, as a hated minority group.” She and several others joined Dobson to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court case in which justices, including Elena Kagan and Ruth Ginsburg, who already publicly have endorsed same-sex marriage, will hear arguments April 28. Iranian Warships Arrive Near Yemen

Iranian Warships Arrive Near YemenBREAKING NEWS – A fleet of Iranian warships arrived near the southern coast of Yemen on Wednesday in a move likely to add greater tension in a developing U.S.-Iranian standoff in the region, according Iranian military leaders. Just days after the United States announced it would send its own warships to Yemen in order to prevent Iran from smuggling weapons to terror forces fighting there, a flotilla of Iranian destroyers docked in the same area. Iran’s military moves are likely to increase tensions between the two countries as each seeks to bolster opposing sides in the fight currently unfolding in Yemen. An Iranian fleet including a destroyer warship and a helicopter-carrying warship arrived in the waters off the southern tip of Yemen on Wednesday, according to Iranian state-controlled media. The warships will “protect [Iran’s] cargo ships and oil tankers against pirates,” according to Iran’s Fars News Agency. The United States and other countries fear Iran is using these cargo ships to deliver weapons and other deadly hardware to opposition forces in Yemen. The Iranian warships will remain in the area for at least three months, according to Fars. FULL REPORT

Federal Judge Orders NY Transit Authority To Display ‘Hamas Killing Jews’ Ad On Buses

A federal judge in NY ordered NY’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority to display on their buses a very controversial ad. The ad refers to Muslims killing Jews. The judge rejected the argument that displaying the ad might incite terrorism or put people in harms way.

EDITOR’S NOTE: To those of you who are confused by this story,  you are not alone. These ads were not placed by a Muslim group, they were placed by AFDI, a group run by Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer. Even I wasn’t quite sure immediately what was happening here. These ads are a reaction to a previous ad campaign that was run by Muslims called “What’s Your Jihad?“.

“U.S. District Judge John Koeltl in Manhattan said the ad from the American Freedom Defense Initiative, which had previously run in Chicago and San Francisco, was protected speech under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The ad portrays a menacing man wearing a scarf around his head and face, includes a quotation “Killing Jews is Worship that draws us close to Allah” attributed to “Hamas MTV,” and then states, “That’s His Jihad. What’s yours?”

Koeltl said he was “sensitive” to the security concerns, but noted that the MTA and Chairman Thomas Prendergast “underestimate the tolerant quality of New Yorkers and overestimate the potential impact of these fleeting advertisements. It strains credulity to believe that New Yorkers would be incited to violence by ads that did not incite residents of Chicago and San Francisco.”

MTA buses and subways are often forums for policy debates. The agency has accepted other ads from the American Freedom Defense Initiative, which is characterized as an anti-Muslim group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Koeltl delayed enforcing his preliminary injunction by 30 days so the MTA could decide whether to appeal.

Adam Lisberg, an MTA spokesman, said: “We are disappointed in the ruling and are reviewing our options.” The ad includes a disclaimer that its display does not imply an MTA endorsement.

The MTA said the ad did not meet standards it adopted in 2012 after a judge, in another lawsuit by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, said its earlier ban on ads that demeaned people based on race or religion violated the First Amendment.

Koeltl, however, said the MTA did not show that the latest ad could prompt imminent violence, noting that none occurred in Chicago and San Francisco, or that New York City should be treated differently because it is a more prominent terrorism target.

David Yerushalmi, a lawyer for the American Freedom Defense Initiative, said the decision follows similar rulings in Washington and Philadelphia.

“There is no question that transit authorities have the right and duty to protect their riders from violence,” Yerushalmi said in a phone interview. “They do not have the right to give terrorists or potential terrorists a ‘heckler’s veto.’ source

PayPal Working On ‘Natural Body Identification’ Via Implantable Microchips

PayPal is working on a new generation of embeddable, injectable and ingestible devices that could replace passwords as a means of identification.

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” Revelation 13:16,17 (KJV)

Jonathan LeBlanc, PayPal’s global head of developer evangelism, claims that these devices could include brain implants, wafer-thin silicon chips that can be embedded into the skin, and ingestible devices with batteries that are powered by stomach acid.

These devices would allow “natural body identification,” by monitoring internal body functions like heartbeat, glucose levels and vein recognition, Mr LeBlanc told the Wall Street Journal.

Over time they would come to replace passwords and even more advanced methods of identification, like fingerprint scanning and location verification, which he says are not always reliable.

“As long as passwords remain the standard methods for identifying your users on the web, people will still continue to use ‘letmein’ or ‘password123′ for their secure login, and will continue to be shocked when their accounts become compromised,” said Mr LeBlanc.

Mr LeBlanc said PayPal is already working with some partners on developing vein recognition technologies and heartbeat recognition bands, and is also working with developers on prototypes of futuristic ID verification techniques. source

Michele Bachmann: ‘Rapture of The Church’ Is ‘Coming Faster Than Anyone Can See,’

Former U.S. congresswoman and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann claimed that the “rapture of the Church” is looming and will be brought to reality due to the foreign policies of president Barack Obama, and added that God will punish the United States for disobeying His will.

As previously reported by The Christian Post, the 59-year-old Minnesotan recently spoke with Jan Markell on the “Understanding the Times” radio program and labeled Obama’s foreign policy — specifically his desire for a nuclear deal with Iran – as being “pro the goals of Islamic Jihad.” She added that Obama’s foreign policy will lead to the coming of the Islamic Messiah (Mahdi) and the return of Jesus Christ.

So in the midst of the darkness, please throw in some rays of light that glorify God and the finished work of His Son. … it can’t all be bad!”

But scientists tell us that if we do see a VEI 7 or a VEI 8 eruption today, the amount of energy that would be released would be somewhere in the neighborhood of a million nuclear bombs going off all at once, and such an eruption would completely transform our civilization almost overnight……….. College Students and the Church (1)

If our church life is exclusively or even primarily segregated, it is difficult for a student to pursue inter-generational relationships with the rest of the congregation, at precisely the time when such relationships are most needed. To be sure, a college-and-career group or young adults group can be valuable. But it can also be a distraction from what is really most needed: older men being an example for the younger, older women teaching the younger, all in the course of real everyday life, following Paul’s instructions to Titus.

The Daily Discovery (April 23, 2015)

Suicide Solution – “A group calling itself the Optimum Population Trust claims humanity is having way too many babies.  All the extra children are badly ruining the carbon offset of our planet and hence having an impact upon global warming.”

Dear New Seminarian . . . Sincerely, Your Baptist Brother – “I understand you intend to enroll in seminary this fall. You’ve asked if I might recommend a few books for you to read before beginning your studies. Of course, your appetite for reading will be sated—and then some—in your first year of study (interestingly, you will also find that your capacity will grow along with your appetite over the course of your degree program!).”

The Truth About Lies – “Isn’t it true that we all see lying as a harmless sin? Of all the sins we can commit, lying seems the smallest of all to us. Reaching for a lie is so natural to us like reaching for that second piece of bread at dinner. It seems so harmless, that only a few understand how grave a sin it is. Lying is not an insignificant matter before God, so much so that He lists it along with murder, adultery and sorcery, because it is as grave as those, and is used in each.”

When Ministry Success Becomes An Idol – “I remember exactly where I was when I lost interest in professional sports.  In 1998 the World Cup was in France, and the player to watch was Michael Owen, starting forward for England. He was that country’s youngest player ever to participate in a World Cup. I was 16. Michael Owen was 18. I was in my parent’s basement in mid-Missouri. He was in the Stade de Toulouse in France. I played JV soccer, defense specifically, because I couldn’t score. But Owen was scoring goals against the best players in the world. He was internationally famous. I was moderately popular in my high school.”

8 Lies Christians Believe About Success – “I have spent my whole life trying to be successful. I thought it was what we were supposed to do. Worse than that, I thought success was the mark of a blessed Christian.  If God loves you he’ll bless you, says the prayer of Jabez and North America’s favorite verse,Jeremiah 29:11. His desire is to prosper us, not to harm us—to give us hope and a future.”

Can You Pass the Objective / Subjective Truth Test? (Cold-Case Christianity Broadcast #27)

In this episode of the Cold-Case Christianity Podcast, J. Warner Wallace makes a case for the evidential nature of Christian truth claims. He then reviews the nature of objective and subjective truth claims and offers a brief test to see if you can distinguish the differences.

The glorious freedom of not mattering

Michael Kelley:

When I feel small, there is the gospel that reminds me that my size and worth is determined by that which was sacrificed for me. And there is no greater sacrifice than that which has been given. Thanks to that sacrifice – His sacrifice – I am not small. I matter. I matter in the kingdom, and I matter in the world. And when you matter these challenges are not to be shrunk away from out of fear but are to be counted with courageous hope.

8 Lies Christians Believe About Success

Emily Wierenga:

If God loves you he’ll bless you, says the prayer of Jabez and North America’s favorite verse, Jeremiah 29:11. His desire is to prosper us, not to harm us—to give us hope and a future.

Just look at all those megachurches, with their million-dollar sanctuaries. Look at all those bestselling Jesus-loving authors and speakers.

But then there are the 21 Egyptians, or the 30 Ethiopians, martyred recently for their Christian faith. There are the faithful pastors who don’t have megachurches, who suffer heartache and setbacks. And there is my own journey as a Christian author, through anorexia, miscarriage, and anxiety. And there are countless other believers who do the right thing, who say the right prayers, who believe, and yet who know the anguish of Job.

Sex Appeal and Female Christian Artists

Mike Leake:

I’m not much of a fan of CCM (mainstream Christian music) in the first place. But I haven’t entirely thrown the baby out with the bath water. There are some phenomenal Christian artists who God uses to engage my heart in worship. I’m grateful for music with biblical lyrics that encourage my walk with Jesus.

But there is something I’ve noticed with the promotion of female artists that really annoys me. Here is another one of those areas where I believe CCM follows culture a bit too much.

The New Rules of the Secular Left

Albert Mohler:

Business, political, and civic leaders piled on in a mass act of political posturing. The federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act became law in 1993 in a mass act of bipartisan cooperation. The Act passed unanimously in the House of Representatives and with 97 affirmative votes in the Senate. President Bill Clinton signed the bill into law, celebrating the Act as a much needed protection of religious liberty. Clinton called religious liberty the nation’s “first freedom” and went on to state: “We believe strongly that we can never, we can never be too vigilant in this work.”

But, that was then. Indiana is now.

How Do We Keep Our Possessions from Possessing Us?

S.D. Kelly:

Here’s the problem: while I might feel superior to the hoarder, I don’t believe any more than the hoarder does that love is actually enough. In addition to love, I need things. What gets confusing is knowing the difference between the things we need and the things we don’t need. The basics are shelter, food, and clothing. But what happens after I have the things I absolutely need? What should I be acquiring? As a culture, we seem to be incapable of answering those questions. Actually, we don’t even try to answer them. We’re too busy shopping. Maybe because, in economic terms, supply relentlessly exceeds demand. From Dollar Tree to Neiman Marcus, Freecycle to Craigslist to the mighty Amazon, we are swimming in stuff, with the Container Store at the ready with attractive bins and baskets to put it all in.

How To Win Your Crowns

many-crowns

A Bible Study by Jack Kelley

So, forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained. 8 Lies Christians Believe About Success

I have spent my whole life trying to be successful. I thought it was what we were supposed to do. Worse than that, I thought success was the mark of a blessed Christian.

Holding A Non-Believer Accountable

Q&A-chalkboard

Q.  Could you please refer me to verses that deal with holding a ‘non believer’ business accountable for un-ethical behavior, where people are lied to and taken advantage of? I need to be clear as to how God desires that I proceed. Several years ago, a large sum of money (that was owed to me) was never given to me after I left the company.  The business is still in operation and still deceiving people. Do I have a responsibility to act on behalf of those who do not know what is being done?

Rapture And Other Questions

Q.  If the new man and the old man in the believer still exist in a sinful body how can the HS continue to reside there, and why the difference between the  old and new  testament  saints?  When the rapture occurs will God divide the old man from the new man and leave the old man and the sin stained body to die and take the new creation with a new body with HIM to heaven? Where does it say in the bible that the rapture is going to be a  visible disappearance?

Q.  I was reading a previous post of yours saying those in heaven will lose their free will.  Were you speaking just of the sin nature or will those in heaven  have absolutely no free will? I get in heaven not wanting/being able to sin but surely once we’re there we will still be individually unique and won’t just be robots, right?

GTY Blog: The Christlike Husband

Ephesians 5:26-28

Code: B150422

by John MacArthur

Ask the typical man on the street to give one word that embodies the essence of leadership, and he’ll probably suggest words such as authority, control, or power.

Scripture’s view of leadership is characterized by a different word: love.

Godly leadership is always driven by love, and it is uniquely and clearly displayed in God’s design for marriage. God divinely ordered the relationship between husbands and wives to be a reflection of Christ’s relationship to the church. The wife’s submission to the husband is designed as a living illustration of the church’s submission to her Lord. The husband, conversely, is supposed to be a living illustration of Christ, who “loved the church and gave Himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25, emphasis added). Notice that the stress is entirely on Christ’s sacrifice and service for the good of the church.

That He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies.” (Ephesians 5:26–28)

Paul’s whole point here is that a husband best shows Christlike headship by voluntary, loving sacrifice and service for the good of his wife.

The sinful tendency of fallen men is to dominate their wives by brute force. Even some Christian men are guilty of being too aggressive with their authority in the home. But dictatorial despots and heavy-handed husbands are antithetical to the pattern of headship Christ gives us.

Christlike Love

Authentic love is incompatible with a despotic or domineering approach to headship. If the model of this love is Christ, who “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28), then the husband who thinks he exists to be served by his wife and children couldn’t be farther off the mark.

Consider the implications of a command to love. This suggests that genuine love is not merely a feeling or an involuntary attraction. It involves a willful choice. Far from being something we “fall into” by happenstance, authentic, Christlike love involves a deliberate, voluntary commitment to sacrifice whatever we can for the good of the person we love.

When Paul commanded husbands to love their wives, he was calling for all the virtues outlined in 1 Corinthians 13, including patience, kindness, generosity, humility, meekness, thoughtfulness, liberality, gentleness, trust, goodness, truthfulness, and long-suffering. It is significant that all the properties of love stress selflessness and sacrifice. The godly husband and father must make himself servant of all (cf. Mark 9:35).

Christlike Pattern

How, in practical terms, should a husband demonstrate his love for his wife? Christ’s love for His church is the perfect pattern and prototype for every husband’s relationship with his wife. That elevates the husband’s love for his wife to a high and holy level. The husband who abuses his role as head of the family dishonors Christ, corrupts the sacred symbolism of the marriage union, and sins directly against his own Head, Christ (1 Corinthians 11:3).

So the husband’s duty to love his wife in a Christlike manner is of supreme importance. No one in the family is given a greater responsibility (Paul’s exhortation to husbands is the longest and most detailed section of Ephesians 5:22–6:9).

Christ’s love was a self-sacrificial love. He “loved the church and gave Himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25). Jesus Himself indicated that of all love’s qualities, a willingness to sacrifice self is the greatest: “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life” (John 15:13). Authentic love is always self-sacrificial.

The person who loves sacrificially is humble, meek, and concerned more with others than with self. Again, Christ is the model. Though He existed eternally as God and was therefore worthy of all worship and honor, He laid all that aside in order to come to earth and die for sinners. Scripture says:

[He] emptied Himself, taking the form of a [slave], and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:7–8).

The demands on husbands are not nearly so severe. Yet we need to have the same willingness to make any sacrifice necessary for the sake of our wives and children. Anything less is not godly leadership.

GTY Blog: The Ministry of a Godly Wife

Selected Scriptures

Code: B150420

by John MacArthur

Postmodernism has left many scars on modern evangelicalism. One that is particularly deep is the practice of defining biblical concepts in our own terms. Bible studies often revolve around the question: “What does this verse mean to you?” Sermons and Bible lessons begin with the phrase: “To me this means . . .” And “context” has more to do with the interpreter and not what’s being interpreted.

The postmodern reader exercises authority over the text, functioning like God’s editor. As a result, many biblical doctrines have been rewritten or expunged. Prominent among those is the biblical role of women.

Tragically, the biblical prohibition against women assuming church leadership roles are often misunderstood or rejected entirely. Some have misapplied that prohibition and impeded a woman’s ability to minister in any capacity, forcing them to cede all ministry work to men. Others take it as a stripe of chauvinism running throughout Scripture that must be cut out and cast aside for the Bible to be applicable and relevant in a postfeminist culture.

But the role of women in the church cannot be defined merely by the prohibitions against eldership and pulpit ministry. The sad irony is that those who supposedly champion the cause of women in the church are the ones trampling and belittling God’s true, high calling for women. The narrow, misguided focus on women preaching has led many to completely overlook the vital ministry roles that God specifically designed women to fulfill.

Winning the Unbelieving Husband

To begin with, the godly woman has a full-time ministry to the unbelievers in her home—particularly an unbelieving husband. The apostle Peter said it like this:

Wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior. (1 Peter 3:1–2)

Pastors and counselors commonly hear women protest against this principle. “Look, you don’t know my husband. He refuses to obey God. He is not a Christian. How can I submit to such a man?” But that type of situation is precisely what Peter was dealing with: “Even if any of them are disobedient to the word,” submit anyway. There is no exemption for wives who are married to unbelieving husbands. In fact, far from making such wives an exception to the rule, Peter used them as an example of what godly submission can accomplish in a marriage. The submissive wife may be God’s chosen means for winning an unbelieving husband.

A believing wife by her submission can have a more powerful influence on her unbelieving husband than she ever will by nagging or sermonizing. By her conduct, Peter said, she may win him to Christ “without a word” (1 Peter 3:1). What kind of conduct? “Chaste and respectful behavior” (1 Peter 3:2). Purity of life coupled with deep respect (a kind of reverential “fear”) for the husband: that is how a godly wife shows submission.

Displaying Godly Beauty

Notice also the corollary: “Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses” (1 Peter 3:3). Peter’s words could not be more timely today. Women shaped by contemporary society’s values tend to be obsessed with external adornment. But Peter said that is not where a woman’s priorities should be focused (Paul said something similar in 1 Timothy 2:9–10).

Don’t misunderstand what this means. The apostles were not completely forbidding jewelry, stylish hair, or other feminine adornments; they were simply saying those things are not what is most important. The way a woman looks is not the measure of her true beauty, and attempts to call everyone’s attention to the way she looks is actually showing a lack of submission to her own husband.

Instead, Peter said, women first of all need to cultivate inner beauty. They should be primarily concerned with “the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:4). It’s hard to imagine anything Peter might have said that would be more out of step with twenty-first-century notions of political correctness! He was saying that women ought to be gentle and quiet and submissive, not loud and boisterous and pushy. They ought to be concerned with their own character, and not with the world’s fashion. In other words, the real attractiveness of a godly woman—and her true strength—is that she is supportive of her husband and submissive to him, and she shows that submission through gentleness and serene stillness. That may not play well in a feminist culture, but it is what the Bible says.

Holiness Through Submission

Peter certainly wasn’t teaching that women must blindly follow everything their husbands say—as if they could never offer a contrary opinion or think for themselves. But he was suggesting that a godly woman will seek to “win” her husband by quiet, gentle, respectful means—not by rebelling against him or by trying to take over his place as head of the family.

Peter then set all of this in a biblical and historical perspective:

For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands; just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear. (1 Peter 3:5–6)

Peter was not making any new rule. And regardless of what modern notions of political correctness might suggest, these aren’t outmoded principles, either. Holiness is what godly women have always been most concerned with.

Teaching in a Vital Role

Women who fulfill God’s high calling in submission to their husbands also become qualified for a vital teaching ministry.

Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. (Titus 2:3–5)

The expression “older women” refers to mature women—not necessarily elderly women, but veteran wives and mothers who are already experienced at raising families and keeping a household in order. The duties Paul gave them are simple and straightforward. They are to be women of holy character (“reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine”). And they are to be teachers (“teaching what is good”). Whom are they to teach? Younger women. What are they to teach? Paul listed a series of simple duties for wives.

This section of Titus gives a beautiful pattern for women seeking a ministry where they can put their gifts to the best use. Older women should teach younger women the skills and disciplines needed to have a successful home and marriage. Experienced wives and mothers will find their greatest avenue of ministry in teaching younger wives what they need to know to be effective wives, mothers, and homemakers.

Overseeing the Home

Notice, by the way, that all the woman’s biblical priorities are centered in the family and the home: “to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands” (Titus 2:4–5). The starting point is love—the woman’s love for her own husband and children. And she expresses that love in her virtue and her self-sacrifice, chiefly in the arena of her own family home. The home is where the truly godly woman flourishes. It’s where she finds her greatest joy. And it’s where she has her most important influence.

All of that is wrapped up in what Paul meant when he urged wives to be subject to their own husbands (Ephesians 5:22).

Next time, we’ll look at his instructions to husbands.

Left uses stories and peer-pressure to indoctrinate children to support same-sex marriage

WINTERY KNIGHT

National Education Association National Education Association

This is a striking story from Life Site News. It talks about how the school system gets pro-same-sex-marriage speakers to teach the children to support same-sex-marriage.

It says:

A primary grade lesbian teacher from an Ontario public school revealed in a workshop at a homosexual activist conference for teachers earlier this month how she uses her classroom to convince children as young as four to accept homosexual relationships.

“And I started in Kindergarten. What a great place to start. It was where I was teaching. So, I was the most comfortable there,” Pam Strong said at the conference, attended by LifeSiteNews.

The conference, hosted by the homosexual activist organization Jer’s Vision, now called the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity, focused on the implementation of Bill 13 in Ontario classrooms. Bill 13, called by critics the ‘homosexual bill of rights,’ passed in June 2012 and…

The Doctrine of Original Sin

Possessing the Treasure

1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! 5 “For God knows that in the day…
